Phantom Thief of Hearts Phantom Thief of Hearts Thepotatogod Thepotatogod

For a demon who was the life of any party she was a part of, Justice felt... off. Which in itself was pretty odd. She never felt out of sorts, never mind out of place. A place like this, godliness aside, was exactly what she had left Hell for in the first place!

As she indulged the rare habit of thinking deeply, Justice realized that it wasn't that something felt wrong about this party. It was that something felt familiar, and close by, too. It didn't click for the Awesome Demon™ until she turned around at the sound of an old friend. There was no mistaking it!

She came over in a hurry, her forked tail swishing wildly behind her as the demon practically elbowed her way in to get a good look at the famous person in question... metaphorically speaking.

    joC0V9a.png

    "Yo, do I know you?"

After a beat had passed, Justice's arm shot forward, seizing Famous Pierre's hand and shaking it like a jackhammer.

    9mtdErj.png

"Yeah, I do! There's no way I'd forget Famous Pierre! Happy birthday, dude!"

    "Oh, shock on a stick."

There were worse fates out there than death. Every time Miguel began to doubt that, there was always some sick, demented freak who was more than happy to beat it back into his head with a sledgehammer. As the poor officer began to be overwhelmed by Kassidy's so-called present, Miguel could only watch helplessly -- to his own active self-irritation -- as he was at a loss of what to do in the heat of the moment. By the time he did snap himself back to reality, Star's wand was knocked right out of her hand, and all Miguel could think to do immediately was join Peni in webbing Mulligan up, even if only to temporarily immobilize him and buy themselves some time to think of a better solution.

No matter what, Miguel resolved to do everything in his power to free Mulligan of the symbiote without resorting to putting him out of his misery. But whether or not it would have to come to that, there was only one way to find out, unfortunately.

"C'mon, kid, you know how it goes!" He exclaimed toward Peni, his mind racing to find some sort of solution. "Symbiotes can't stand fire or loud noises! My progressive list of desirable outcomes; screaming in their ear, trying to knock 'em out cold the ol' fashioned way, or fire. Not really a fan of the prospect of burning 'em alive, not when Mulligan's still in there though!"

As Gerome charged forward, electing to go for his own method however, Miguel could only reach his arm out in vain. "W-Wait a tick!" Miguel yelled out as Gerome attempted to hack away at Mulligan with his axe. Even so, between that second and the moment Gerome fell down, Miguel was hard pressed to keep out -- for just one brief second -- a dark, terrible thought struck Miguel that death would have been preferable to this fate that had befallen the officer, but so long as there was a chance, he couldn't give up hope.

"Mulligan, was it?! You have to fight that thing! It wants to take you over, but you're stronger than it! I know you are!" He called out, hoping desperately to appeal to the man underneath the monster.

"Thank you, my friend!" Famous Pierre nodded his head to the rhythm the techno music that suddenly played in the background. "It has certainly been a while!"

As the Mystery Detective Agency finally caught up with Famous Pierre, the famous one welcomed them properly to the party, "My friends! You've came just in time!"

"Let me introduce you to Justice," Pierre chuckled as he took a sip from his glass. "We met back in World War II in Switzerland! The Colonel sent us there to stop Hitler from spreading a Nazi Virus with his Magic."

"Uh, Pierre, did you forget about the Nazis?" Jackson called Pierre over their comm-link.

"Don't worry about it, Jackson, it's Christmas. I'm sure the Detective Girl and her friends could handle that," Pierre emphasized his point by shooing away Ms. Layton and her team to hunt down the Nazis in his stead "Besides, I'm with Justice! Remember, we met her back at Switzerland."

"Oh yeah... She was an Awesome Demon."

"Yes..." Pierre's bright and famous smile faded as a horrible realization donned on him. "Wait a minute... But I'm Catholic now! I can't friends with a demon!" Famous Pierre turned his head to a nearby crucifix and the famous member of Danger 5 prayed to the Holy Father. "Jesus! Please forgive me!"

With the blessings of Jesus, Famous Pierre continued to party with Justice and left the Mystery Detective Agency to their own devices.

"We can worry about that later. No need to show your car off in the sky!" Coco exclaims as she begins to transform into her true form. Her scales turn a light pink and her wings emerge from her back, her clothes visibly ripping during this transformation.

"Well, let's take off!" Coco, in her sizy form, prompts all to get on her back.

"Kanna," Dola says to her little fuzzy brethren as she boards the Coco-mobile, "can you carry the others?"

Before anything, Coco flew up into the sky, creating a sonicboom as she jumped for the sky!

There was a lull in combat; a brief repose as their enemies chose to reveal themselves and their stupidity at the same time. They exposed their positions in order to spout mockery.

Rather foolish for someone in sniping distance, Shirou thought.

It was something that Shirou had seen often during the Holy Grail War, and rarely in the contract work he'd done outside of it, but it was always the same: the enemy fired a probing attack from a position of superiority, became convinced their subject wasn't even considerable as opposition and abandoned said position in order to mine for personal satisfaction.

At least a good fifth of the weapons contained within Unlimited Blade Works had their history dotted with the words, 'underestimated the enemy,' which often followed said enemy seizing the weapon for their own use. Most of the time, aforementioned seizure involved the prior owner's death.

It would be easy to conjure Archer's Bow, or another shooting implement. At this range, with Shirou's draw strength and nocking speed, he'd be able to load two arrows simultaneously, charge them with prana, and fire them at a speed that far surpassed a round from a hunting rifle - all in less than a second. Those arrows would be headed with pinpoint precision for the points between the eyes of both Morgan and her son, with enough stopping power to cleanly penetrate through if they were baseline humans, and they'd make contact with the skull in less than a fraction of a second.

But the man didn't conjure a bow yet.

He wasn't sold on the idea that an accord couldn't be reached, much like Saber. More than that, he needed a breather. Shirou dismissed the dual swords, making them evaporate into mana.

His attentive eyes caught the glint of the Amulet of First Magic landing on a nearby statue's bust.

While Saber spoke, Shirou listened, but as he did, he also considered: Should he move in for the Amulet, into a position where he'd be able to grab it?

No. The enemy would notice that, and he was already planning to use arrows if a battle started.

Saber was a much better melee combatant than Shirou, so he could act as her ranged support instead, pressuring opponents and giving her room by keeping targets off her back. It was such a fitting strategy that Shirou wanted to berate himself for not thinking of it. He'd been so focused on training his swordsmanship, he briefly forgot what a good archer he was -- even his future self's technique was reflected more in the name, if not in true fighting style.

Their party was nearly perfect for all manner of combat, with Saber for a close-range powerhouse and fighter, Rin and Illya as versatile magi in the middle, and Shirou for long-distance precision strikes and battlefield control.

So instead of a blade, he prepared to trace Archer's Bow. In case Morgan planned to use her magic in order to draw the Amulet into her hand, Shirou prepared himself to react, and formed a mental blueprint of an arrow with a forked tip, meant to pin the Amulet into a wall without damaging it.

Not that Shirou believed his meager arrows could really hurt a magical artifact that was apparently so powerful as to be called the Amulet of First Magic -- Rin said the First Magic was a big deal, and Fate entirely independently said the Amulet was a big deal -- but it paid to apply caution.

And while he wanted their enemies to listen to reason and justice, he'd learned not to expect it.

The words of the spell were at the tip of his tongue; ready to be spoken. The muscles of his hands, wrists, forearms, and shoulders were tense; ready to grip a bow and pull a bowstring.

The gamble had paid off! While the Shadows had been busy trying to dodge the Phantom Thieves' projectiles, Uravity managed to close the distance and tap one of the Drunken Sales Pitchers with her palm.

"Gotcha!" she exclaimed with a grin.

Before the Drunken Sales Pitcher could offer any protest, it found itself unable to keep its movements steady. It waved its stubby little arms futilely, trying to regain control of its own momentum. Despite being able to float, the Shadow was now helplessly under control of Uravity's Zero Gravity quirk!

"Hey, hey! Let me go, ho!" the Shadow yelped.

The bullet had unfortunately missed the Charismatic Enforcer, causing the skeleton man to simply twirl gracefully and he then swung his red cape about. Weird, technicolor spiraling orbs materialize in the air as they was then shot toward towards Ochako!

Uravity caught a glint of colour in her peripheral vision, and before the Charismatic Enforcer's magic had reached her, she positioned the hapless Shadow between her and the attack.

"Hee! I don't want to go, ho!" the Shadow pleaded.

But its pleas fell on deaf ears. The Drunken Sales Pitcher was pelted multiple times by the magical orbs, grunting in pain each time until it finally disappeared into a cloud of smoke.

"That's one down!" Uravity shouted above the clamor of battle. The pro hero distanced herself from the main group of enemies, ending up close to Ryuji in the process. She knew that she might not get so lucky with a direct approach next time, so it was better to take these foes on with a partner or two by her side.

"Hey, what are these things? I haven't seen anything like them before!" she asked Ryuji, still keeping up a fighting stance in case any more Shadows decided to rush their way.

Woah, Coco. You can transform into a dragon-

He asked before Coco flew into the sky with Dola boarding on her back which it made a sonic boom, which his reaction is being entirely shocked because of how Coco got transformed into a pink dragon and tries to regain his composure before he turned around to Kanna if she could carry the others even though she is little but she can carry the others including him which it could be more shocking in his thoughts if it will be happening that Kanna can carry him and the rest except Moon Girl because she had her pet DD as her ride yet if she was getting carried by the small dragon, she would be putting Moon Girl in DD instead.

He then put his hands stuff into the pockets of his jacket and he was very eager to get in Coco’s back via being carried with the others by Kanna, but how is he able to hold on because he has never been into a ride with a dragon since he is not from a fantasy world.

"Woah, a suspicious person showed up!" Minako gasped in shock, seeing the appearance of a white haired woman with horns.

"She has horns..." Katrielle observed, lifting her magnifying glass to observe the horns poking out of the shaded demon's slicked back white hair. "That's incredible!" Katrielle practically squealed as she made an observation, thinking about what sort of fascinating creature had she encountered today.

She was introduced as Justice, an ironic name for a demon. Regardless, Pierre decided to push the Nazi scouting duties to the Detective Agency, not before praying to Jesus who...Came alive and took a sip of Pierre's margarita.

"Wow." Was the only work spoken by the trio.

"But...But I wanna talk to the sexy horn lady, too...!" Katrielle sighed, saddened to see Justice and Pierre walk away to party. Her chance to document a bizarre woman like her now gone thanks to the Danger 5's tasks.

"We might have time later, Katrielle-chan." Minako says, taking charge. "Let's go explore the mansion for now."

    "Right."
    "Okay..."

"Woof Woof Woof.(I hope that demon lady's appearance is not some bad juju.)"

And thus, the Detective Agency started to move past the Christmas celebration, wandering the halls as if in search of the bathroom as a typical group of four. Instinctively, Minako took out Carlos' mystical katana, hidden inside her uniform that, miraculously, no one noticed, now placing it on the side of her waist.

Tucker ignored the banging at the door as he consumed more of Pierre's pills, it was then he noticed an extensive collection of home movies that filled the shelves.

"This must be Pierre's collection of 'Cheer-Up Movies' he was talking about," Tucker noted as he ate another pill into his mouth before grabbing one labeled 'Pierre's Chicks & Chicken Night' and popping it into the VHS player with his Wife's head lovingly placed on top to watch over Tucker during his time of need.

Tucker, with box of pills in his hands, sat down to watch the tape. A video depicting a super model eating fried chicken while Pierre chanted, "Sumimasen."

Tucker's gaze wander from the model's lips to that of his wife's... Tucker's mind began to spiral down the abyss of depravity but before he could act upon those vile urges the door burst open and a bright light illuminated the darkness of the cheer-up room. The Aussie soon rose up from his seat and, in a trance, wandered into the light.

Tucker now found himself not in Famous Pierre's Mansion but in a place far more familiar to him.

"G' Day, Little Cousin Jethro!" Tucker waved at the young blonde boy cleaning up the yard.

"Australia!" Little Cousin Jethro exclaimed with a smile and a thumbs up of encouragement.

Tucker sighed with relief as he sat upon the Australian Lawn Chair as it appeared as if his day just gotten better as he was greeted by a very familiar face.

Where were you last time, miss?? You seem lost here too, but if you’re actually a bit suspicious too.

She asked the girl where she was last time before she is now in Vale, she must be thinking about something and decided to get out of her M6 after she turned off the engine just to save fuel before she is acting to be a normal person that was to meet a new person yet she must be new in Vale and all had she need to do is to know her where she is and just to get know more about the person.

She has some sort of a curiosity moment right now because she has never seen nor met her at all and has her hand scratching her head, she has her thinking that this won’t be an interesting meeting but she thought of it as more of an awkward meeting in her own perspective before she could put her hands stuff into her pockets of her jacket. She must be thinking of her own mind as quite of an interesting mixed mind of both interest and curiosity at the same time so it could be like an essential state of her own ideas on what comes later, yet she’s still waiting on the person to reply to her question.

"Just, let me handle this," Gwen said before leaping towards the symbiote creature.

The creature shielded himself his claws out of fear as Gwen cautiously approached him. "Stay away from me!" the symbiote hissed.

"Chill out! I know you're not a monster," Gwen patted the scared creature's shoulder to calm it down.

"You don't think I'm a monster?" the creature lowered his claws to face Gwen.

"Well yeah, I'm bonded to one of those things too, except mine isn't as talkative," Ghost-Spider chuckled. "So, since you're not a monster and all... you got a name?"

"Name?" the symbiote tilted his head.

"Yeah, I mean maybe your dad gave you one?" Ghost-Spider shrugged.

"That's a good start, Toxin... 'Cause we're here to stop him," Ghost-Spider offered a handsake to Toxin. "You in?"

Cafe Stile, located in its cozy little corner of town. On the outside, it wasn't anything particularly engrossing, save for the most important thing Cafes have - a lovely chalk billboard that drew customers in, describing it as a 'Character Cafe' first and foremost, with the name of some specials decorating the bottom.

He would park near the cafe and get out of his AMG GTR and he sat on the far corner of the cafe, Why do I do that…… it was like my own trauma hit me, I don’t wanna do that once again if I met someone else.

He innerly said, he must be very patient in his physical state while in his mental state was being so nervous yet regretted it all over. And once he calms himself down in his mental state, he would look at the window with a bored look in his own mind and could be in a depressed mood in his own opinion of some sort yet he really needs to drink a frappuccino right now so he decides to wait out if there is a waiter having to ask him that he will order on something since he has been this bored for a while now.

The first sights of Café Stile were its colour-coded waitresses serving their customers and greeting all who came through the door, each assuming different personalities out of idealized fiction as they went about their jobs.

Yup, one of those, but everyone who read the label knew that. It was reminiscent of a classy old maid café, without the maids.

  • According to what I've heard, the world is round.

    But...is that really true...?

Earth might have the shape of.....konpeitou!1

Like that...spiky lump of sugar your grandma would wrap in a tissue!"

But, I don't really know for sure. It's not like I've actually seen the shape of the Earth.

In the same way, I don't ever actually see most things that are considered common knowledge.

Common knowledge in what we take for granted...we base our lives around such certain things!

Well, not that it matters for me. I mean, my world isn't even big enough to worry about stuff like...the shape of the earth or common knowledge.

In fact, my world is pretty small...so small that it's actually a little funny.

    KomaruRoom.PNG

This is my world. This two-bedroom apartment that I live in is my world.

My life...doesn't extend beyond these walls.

Oh, but it's not like I'm a shut-in or anything!

    Bars.PNG

    I'm actually...imprisoned inside this room.

OK. Let's start from the beginning.

    Danganronpa_Another_Episode_Komaru_Naegi_Halfbody_Sprite_(1).png

"My name is Komaru Naegi. I'm a completely normal high-school girl..."

"...Who lives an abnormal daily life."

    KomaruStretch.PNG

    "Okay...one more time!"
Komaru said while getting some stretches in. She took a deep breath, then ran straight for the front door with a newfound sense of determination to bust it down.

"LET. ME. OUT! LET ME. OUT OF! HERE!!!" Komaru screamed between the slams of her fist against the door.

    "HEY! LET ME OUT!"

Komaru repeatedly threw all her back weight into pulling down on the door handle, but all she got for her efforts was a rigid refusal. With one last effort, Komaru shoved her entire body against the door, which only left her with a dull pain in her left shoulder.

    KomaruPull.PNG

Ever since my imprisoned life began, this pointless defiance became my morning routine. But it was only at the beginning when I was seriously crying and yelling.

After tasting defeat once again, Komaru gave the door one swift kick and an angry grunt.

"Well...I gave it my best shot."

With her morning door-slamming session over, breakfast was the next thing on Komaru's mind. Her mysterious captor had always been decent enough to deliver her three piping-hot meals a day through a slot next to the door, and the first usually came shortly after causing a ruckus at the doorway.

    . . .

    . . .

    . . .

    Hours passed.

    He's not here...?

It was well past noon now, and Komaru's nerves were beginning to get the better of her. Despite living under such claustrophobic conditions for so long, things had at least been consistent.

Something had to have happened to them...but what?

And why was she even here, anyway? It's not like her family was particulary rich, and it's not like they knew anyone special or made the wrong types of people mad.

Komaru could only stare blankly though the barred window, her own thoughts threatening to slowly consume her.

    KomaruRead.PNG

It's been three years since my imprisoned life began here. Three years! It's...kind of frightening when you think about it. This is my new normal, and I'm completely used to it by now. It's frightening how well humans can adapt! I've learned that firsthand through this imprisonment.

    KomaruRead2.PNG

But it's not like I've completely given up on seeing the outside world again. If I had, I wouldn't do things like change my uniform every morning or brush my teeth twice a day. I just...don't want to get my hopes up too much, that's all.

The door rattled, jolting Komaru out of her train of thought.

    KomaruSurprised.PNG

    Huh? Are they back?

Komaru sprang up from the couch and moved to the door.

"Hey, what took you so long? I was starting to get worried," she said.

    . . .

    No response.

    "...Are you there?"

Komaru cupped her ear and leaned it right next to the door in an attempt to hear what was beyond--

--A mistake that would have proven fatal had she not moved in time. The door that had kept Komaru locked in for so long now had three holes in it.

    KomaruClaws.PNG

And more importantly, three sharp objects resting mere inches away from her eyes.

The girl yelped in terror, falling back to the floor in a split-second reflex. She could only watch as the three claws tore their way down through the door's wooden body. A glowing red light shone faintly through the parallel tears, filling Komaru with a strange mixture of dread and wonder.

Slowly, gradually, the door's frame began to twist and buckle like an empty aluminum wrapper. The claws pulled the locked door out from its frame, tossing it aside like a piece of trash.

And as the mysterious figure stepped through the threshold, it was revealed to be none other than...

    Monokuma.PNG

    "I...

    am Monokuma!"

    A...black-and-white bear?

Komaru broke through her instinct to freeze on the spot, scooting away from the deadly teddy bear and standing back up in the kitchen.

What is that thing?! Some kind of toy?

"Did someone call for room service?"
    the bear said.

'Monokuma' moved forward with his claws still drawn, causing Komaru to back up and bump the kitchen table. The bear continued to advance, turning Komaru's breaths short and shallow.

What should I do, what should I do?!

Her shoe slid back, wrapping around the leg of the chair at the head of the table.

    Wait, the chair!

Without a second to lose, Komaru gripped the chair's spine...

    ...Pulled it out...

And kicked it down in front of Monokuma's path!

Monokuma moved right of the fallen obstacle...

And with this opportunity created, Komaru dashed to the left!

Monokuma looked behind, only to find that his prey had escaped through the wide-open doorway.

Komaru emerged from her prison cell to find herself in a hotel hallway slowly filling up with smoke. Warm tears began forming in the corners of her eyes as she covered her nose and mouth behind her shirt and made a mad dash for the exit.

    "Upupupupu!"

Even with her skin sweating heavily from the fires, Komaru shivered after hearing that mechanical laughter. She didn't dare look behind her, knowing that Monokuma could have been right on top of her by this point.

    Where are the stairs?!

She took a sharp left around the next corner, deciding against barreling through the flaming floor just ahead.

    "Someone...help! Please help!" Komaru cried.

    Then, she saw it.

    An elevator! I'm saved!

Komaru nearly tripped over herself on her way to the lift just ahead. She slammed into the metal doors, immediately smashing the "down" button as fast as her wrist would allow her.

"Hurry, hurry!" Komaru pleaded, begging the thing to move faster.

Komaru turned her head only to discover that Monokuma had just entered the elevator room...and there wasn't any other way out without going through him.

    "No...please! I don't wanna go!"

Komaru pounded the metal repeatedly, but her efforts were in vain.

She was going to die here without ever getting a chance to see the outside world.

Komaru tensed up, covering her head with her arms and closing her teary eyes.

    This was the end.

    Then, the door opened.

"Hold still," came a voice from the other side.

As soon as Komaru's eyes opened, they were met with a blinding light.

She fell down in a panic.

And as soon as the spots in her vision had disappeared, Monokuma's disembodied head had rolled into the wall.

    "Infinitely better than the prototype."

    "What was...?"

    FutureFoundation.PNG

Komaru looked upwards to find a group of men in suits and sunglasses. They were headed in the front by a blond man with a megaphone in his right hand.

    "You must be Komaru Naegi."

The man lifted the megaphone up to his shoulder as the men in sunglasses moved forward into the room.

"Future Foundation 14th division: Byakuya Togami."

Komaru's eyes were still wide in shock. She tried to say something, but the most that came out was incoherent mumbling.

    "U-um..."

    Byakuya sighed.

"Don't get the wrong idea and start crying. I'm not the one who imprisoned you here. In fact, I'm here to rescue you."

    "Huh?!"

"Future Foundation received intel that a captive was imprisoned somewhere inside this building."

    Komaru's brow furrowed.

    "...Future Foundation? What's that?"

"It would appear that intel was correct. However..."
Byakuya said, completely brushing off Komaru's question.

He looked down at the damaged Monokuma head to his right.

"This has to be a trap. What are all these vermin Monokumas doing here?"

"No matter how you look at it, the timing is too perfect. Just as we show up, a riot breaks out...no, they must have known we were coming."

    Komaru's face contorted in fear.

    "Wait, wait! A riot?!"

Byakuya continued his thinking out loud, ignoring Komaru.

"Perhaps the intel itself was a trap to lure us here..."

    "U-um!"

Komaru walked closer to the Monokuma head, looking directly into Byakuya's eyes.

"Wh-what do you mean, 'riot?' What's going on outside? A-and that black-and-white bear thing back there, what was that?! What's going on?!"

"You've never even heard of Monokuma? That kind of ignorance must be nice."

    Byakuya shook his head.

"...You're just like him when I first met him."

    "'Him?' You mean...Monokuma?"

    "No,"
Byakuya curtly replied. "You really don't know anything, do you? I guess I can tell you..."

The two of them heard shuffling from down the hall, and it wasn't from the Future Foundation agents.

"But that'll have to wait. Now's no time for talk!"

    "Uh...sir?!"

    "Upupupupupupu!"

Monokumas began to pour out of open doorways, around the corners, and out of vents in the walls and ceiling.

    "GYAAAH!"

The agent at the front of the pack collapsed. A Monokuma hopped on top of him and began to swipe away at his face, tainting the brown carpet with spurts of red.

"More of them! What should I do...?" Komaru asked him meekly.

"Do you really have any option other than running?"

Byakuya tossed Komaru another megaphone before walking forward. It fumbled in Komaru's hands, but she managed to get a hold of it before it fell. She timidly clutched the thing to her chest with both arms, afraid of losing it.

    Tutorial2.PNG

"It's a hacking gun developed by Future Foundation," Byakuya answered, knowing full well what Komaru's next question would be. "It shoots program codes with electromagnetic waves, and it's more than helpful against these Monokumas."

Byakuya looked over his shoulder to give the girl some final advice.

"Read the operation instructions included with the gun. You're on your own from here, Naegi."

"Wh-what? What do you mean? We should leave, right now!"

Byakuya let out an excessively exasperated sigh.

"You can run, can't you? I'm busy now. Now that I've seen these annoying bears, I can't just leave them be."

Komaru stared blankly at Byakuya's back.

    "Wh...wh...where should I go...?"

"Some members of Future Foundation are stationed at the restaurant across the street. They'll take you out of--"

Byakuya fired a blue bullet of energy from his hacking gun as a Monokuma leapt out at him. The bullet hit its target, causing the Monokuma to explode.

"Hurry up and go. You're just in the way here!"

And with that, Byakuya took off to aid his struggling allies against the horde of Monokumas.

Komaru hesitantly backed into the elevator all on her lonesome, wiping her tears as she watched man after man get gouged through the chest in front of her eyes.

    Then, the door closed.

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Komaru ran out of the glass doors panting. She stooped down and grabbed her knees to catch her breath, then took a moment to look up.

    PigBoyPNG.PNG

"There it is...!" Komaru exclaimed, relieved by the sight of the restaurant Byakuya had just mentioned. It wouldn't take long to reach there...she just needed to get her body to work a little longer...

Komaru looked left down the street.

    Her breaths grew heavy again.

Tall clouds of smoke rose from the overturned cars that littered the street, emerging from the fires that had so badly scarred these charred hunks of metal.

And amongst this metal was living metal...

Bears. So many. So many of them.

    Slaughter.PNG

They hopped from the roofs of these cars like bloodthirsty apes, yanking people out of their seats, stabbing them through their stomachs, their eyes, their throats...and tossing them aside like worthless trash after it was over.

Their bloodcurdling screams drowned out the shrill car alarms which had signalled the arrival of an unparalleled wave of chaos in this once peaceful city.

    KomaruShook2.PNG

Komaru doubled back in horror, her eyes nearly shrinking into the back of her head.

    "Wh...what's going on...?"

To her right, Komaru saw a girl who couldn't have been more than 20 years old hiding behind the glass of her car seat, her once sleek black hair ruined by the fires that had robbed her of her home. She was bent over, her head scrunched into the dashboard as if trying to fit herself inside the glovebox. She curled up onto the floor, trembling uncontrollably like a distressed child trying to cling to one last thread of safety.

Three claws then crashed through the roof of her car, impaling her panicking mother through the head in the driver's seat. The Monokuma pulled his arm out of the vehicle, grey bits dribbling onto the roof as his paws became soaked with her blood.

The girl strangled the little handle, launching the passenger door open.

But she couldn't even scream before she was stabbed through the roof, meeting the same fate as her mother.

Bright blood rolled down the car door and onto the broken pavement below.

The machine stabbed again, and again, and again, as if deriving sadistic glee from what it had just done.

Komaru sincerely wished she had just ran without looking back.

Her thoughts went dim, her body completely overtaken by a raw desire to live on.

She wouldn't become that same helpless girl.

She had to make it across.

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Komaru broke through the front doors of the restaurant in a frenzy, completely toppling a small table on the side of the doorway and slamming into the reception desk. She scared the living daylights out of the lady on the other side, making her drop the phone she'd been using to take a take-out order.

"Can...can I help you...?" the cashier asked. Everything about her body language was screaming, "don't come near me."

Komaru heaved heavy breaths. No words could come from her mouth.

She looked around the dining area to find people minding their own business, which only served to fuel Komaru's savage anxiety.

    Komaru's thousand-yard-stare peered into the cashier's soul.

    "B...b-b-b-b-b-bear attack!" she squealed.

    "A bear...?"

Komaru leaned across the counter and gripped the lady by her sleeves, shaking her violently.

    KomaruShook3.PNG

"B-b-bears! Bears everywhere! Call the military! Paramedics!! HURRY!!! IF WE DON'T HURRY--!"

"Miss, miss! P-please settle down. You're disturbing the other customers...!"

"WHO CARES ABOUT THAT?! GET OUT! HIDE!! HURRY!!!

"OK, fine! Just, please, be quiet!"
    the cashier said, clearly annoyed.

The woman let out a stress-clearing sigh before picking up the phone off the floor.

"Relax, and stay calm," she said before dialing a short number.

The window next to Komaru shattered.

And when she opened her eyes....

    Slaughter2.PNG

    The place had been ransacked.

    Slaughter3.PNG

And the woman she had just tried to save fell limply in a bloody mess.

A fearful flame burned hotly in Komaru's heaving chest.

The trembling girl backed away into the corner, covering her mouth and failing to suppress her whimpering cries of terror.

Her pupils shrank as she realised what was still standing on the counter all this time...

    KomaruShook4.PNG

Komaru forced her cries back down her throat, nearly choking on her own neck tension in the process.

To her relief, the bear hopped off on the other side of the counter, moving deeper into the restaurant.

"Someone...please help me...!" she mouthed pitifully through her flowing tears.

"Emergency! Emergency! Riots are breaking out all over Towa City! T-take refuge immediately! I repeat, citizens of Towa City, take refuge!"

Chaos erupted inside the establishment as the bears continued their hunt. People scrambled out of their seats in a frenzy, with some not even being lucky enough to stand up before getting skewered by claws or torn apart by teeth.

The luckier customers now at least had a chance to book it out of either exit, but try as one might, it would take more than one's bare hands to take on even a single robotic bear guarding the doors.

    "Come get some, you freaks!"

One man trapped in the center aisle picked up a chair and used it to bat away a Monokuma lunging at him. The chair's wooden legs splintered from the sheer force of the blow, sending the Monokuma flying into a nearby booth seat.

With his route now clear, he ran out of the aisle, but didn't expect yet another Monokuma to hop over the seats next to him and strike his back. He let out a howling scream before collapsing to the floor, overpowered by the nearly 500 kg. killing machine currently crushing his rib cage in.

After a few moments, the clamor in the restaurant had died down. All that remained were the soft clacks of the machines' footsteps.

Komaru was drenched in sweat, still recovering from the shock that had kept her frozen underneath the cashier's counter.

What should I do...? They're gonna find me...!

    I've...gotta get out of here...

There was no escape out the front door...not without being killed by the horde of machines outside right now.

Then all there was left to do was...

Komaru's gaze fell to the floor—to the megaphone clutched in her twitching hands.

Komaru's eyes filled with determined fear.

Her finger wrapped around the trigger.

    And then...

    She stood.

The Monokuma just across from the counter had been busy repeatedly stabbing the corpse it was on top of, but that all changed when Komaru showed up in its peripheral vision.

The bear turned around, the red eye on the right side of its face gleaming in anticipation for another fresh kill.

Komaru wouldn't freeze in the face of danger this time.

    C L I C K

A blue orb of energy shot out from the tip of the hacking gun, striking the Monokuma in the head. The robot crashed into the nearby table, parts scattering all over the place as its inner circuitry sparked wildly and slowly fizzled out.

    Got one! Yes!

But now, Komaru had lost the element of surprise. The Monokuma on the opposite end of the aisle came running around the corner, heading straight for the cornered girl!

Komaru readied another shot and fired, but it missed the running bear and hit the other wall. Panicking, Komaru fell back closer to the counter and mashed something on the gun's flashing LED screen. The screen lit up red, indicating something had changed.

Komaru squeezed the trigger again, but she wasn't prepared for the recoil this time.

The gun nearly flew out of her hands as she shot a stream of smaller red bullets out at the charging Monokuma. The few that did land set the machine's face aglow, overheating its innards by injecting them with invasive programs. The Monokuma fell over from the rapid-fire attack, exploding soon after.

Komaru, amazed, took a moment to glance at the lit-up display. One word was front and center among eight options: BURN.

Let's see...if the stuff that Byakuya guy was shooting was blue, then...

Komaru read one of the options: BREAK. That had to be what she shot just now, right?

    Wh-what's this one do...?

Komaru tapped another option on the screen—this one read KNOCKBACK.

Looked like she would have to find another Monokuma to try this on. There still had to be a handful roaming the halls...and messing with their prey.

Komaru pushed back the vivid memories of that girl trapped in her car as she crept past the corner of the first aisle and peaked down the center aisle.

Two Monokumas were busy stomping on and hacking away at corpses on the ground, their backs turned to her for now.

Great! It looks like they haven't spotted me yet...

Komaru took aim with her shaking hands, firing once more. A horizontal line of "code bullets" blasted out like a shotgun, colliding with the nearest Monokuma and flinging him into the back wall, downing his buddy at the back of the restaurant in the process.

The pair of robots struggled to get up after being knocked down, leaving Komaru with a window of opportunity to finish the job!

Komaru switched to another function she hadn't tried: PARALYZE.

A yellow code bullet shot out, and upon contacting the Monokuma at the back of the restaurant, a surge of electricity surrounded the machine, spreading out and licking the other Monokuma's chassis with electrical current as well. The two robots let out spasms of movement in their arms and legs before ultimately dying out and exploding.

This gun is amazing! Maybe I can escape with something like this!

Komaru surveyed her surroundings once more...was that the last of them?

Komaru let out a long, gradual sigh, as if slowly purging herself of some poisonous gas.

    Maybe I can...

    "GH--!"

The last Monokuma inside the restaurant vaulted over the seats in the third aisle, smashing into Komaru's arm and knocking the gun out of her hands.

It was looming over her face.

Raw adrenaline shot through her veins.

    She kicked.

    She screamed.

She pushed it away, only for it to come right back.

    ...But nothing happened.

    Komaru closed her eyes.

    She thought she had died.

But when she opened them again, the bear was broken on the ground next to her.

    What...what happened?

    "Ngh...just in time."

Komaru's head fell the ground, and she stared up at someone limping through the back doorway: a man in a suit who was holding the megaphone she had been using.

But, wait...Komaru's megaphone was still on the ground.

Komaru turned back to face the agents. "Please! You have to go save him!"

"Um...what exactly is going on here? I still have no idea what's happening! I don't know who you are, or where I am, o-or anything!" Komaru sputtered.

One of the male agents crossed his arms and nodded. "I see...well, we don't have much time, so I'll give you the short version. First off, we're from an organization called Future Foundation. We're trying to help mankind and stop those who wish to spread despair all over the world."

"And...and those bears...are they behind them, too?" Komaru asked.

Joker readjusted his gloves after the Shadows were defeated, letting out a relieved sigh as he then turned to the Heroine, caught up in all this mess.

"You alright?" Joker asked, checking to see if the girl was fine, seeing as she was trying to keep up with everyone with the best of her ability. "That wasn't too bad for someone who just encountered them for the first time." He complimented, knowing she was probably scared by the sudden change in scenery as well as their 'hospitality'. He glanced behind him, as if checking to see if more guards are coming. "Let's move to the alleyways for now. We don't want to talk out here in the open." He suggested, as if telling the others to move before more guards show up.

    Uncle Aaron...

Miles' spider-senses flared up as a loud explosion caught the young hero's attention. Miles stuck against the side of a nearby building and turned his sights to the streets below. What he saw horrified him... A monochromatic sea of robotic bears from his past.

"Monokuma! Great, as if this day couldn't get any worse..." Miles sighed heavily before realizing that there was a young teenage schoolgirl caught among the Monokuma Hoard! "Me and big fat mouth!" Acting fast, Miles swung into action!

The Monokumas quickly turned their attention on to Miles, who chuckled in response, "I knew you guys would."
