Arboara

Arboara is a land beyond time. It has stood for thousands of years, Arboara is a rough cold land. The south of the continent is a frozen waste while the far north is a range of impassable mountains where monsters beyond nightmare prowl. This land though hard is not without life, people of all races find places to make a living in the valleys in the center of the continent. The first life on Arboara were a race known as the Dahlkine, they held dominion over Arboara until at some point one thousand years ago they were all but wiped out. A single Dahlkine survives in the modern day, a man beyond death known as Belindar. One hundred years ago Belindar broke the treaty of peace that ruled over the land, forcibly taking control of almost all of Arboara and installing himself as Foreverking. Though Belindar is officially king of Arboara and almost every creature feels his fists there is a small resistance hidden in the Fiercewood. Though they are mere flies buzzing around a dragon’s ear. They lack the strength to topple Belindar and most every person has either chosen to run or content themselves living under the rule of a tyrannical Dahlkine.

Start of the RP

A town in the north of Arboara has been plagued by a terrible beast that has come down from the mountains. The town has pulled every bit of coin together to hire some adventurers or heroes strong enough to slay the beast and free their town of its curse. Two groups have already been hired to slay the beast and both have failed to return. Hope is low as the newest group(Our characters) arrive to try and gain their reward.

Magic

In Arboara magic does exist though it is rare to see. Magic originates as rune, an ancient language spoken by the Dahlkine and Nunuki. There are a few different ways to use magic, the simplest way is to speak the word yourself. Saying the rune words for fire and breath would lead to a mage breathing fire. Though this way you must be specific in what you say. Simply saying fire would set your body alight. One can also cast enchantments by writing rune words for example writing the rune word for sword on a piece of wood would change that wood into a sword. Some mages tattoo rune words on themselves for permanent changes though this is a frowned upon practice and would only be useful for permanent physical changes.

Races

(List of Races that exist in Arboara with some info)

Dahlkine

Dahlkine are practically extinct with only one individual being still alive in the form of Belindar the Foreverking. Dahlkine are practically immortal being unable to die of old age. They are immune to the cold and cannot be taken by disease. They carry the appearance of humans though they are much taller. With Belindar standing at around four meters tall. Their skin is an unnatural dead blue color and their eyes carry a cold fire in them. Dahlkine have crystal like claws in place of fingers and have skin as hard as stone. Little beyond this is known of Dahlkines and their history is all but forgotten. (Not playable as there is only one left and he’s the BBEG).

Nunuki

Nunuki are rarely seen outside of the Fiercewood. They’re covered from head to toe in long hair which can be brown, black, gray, blonde, red, or even white in rare cases. Nunuki are normally sleekly built though their fur may give them a bulky appearance, they normally stand slightly taller than a human, Nunuki have enhanced beast like senses, they possess incredible agility and speed being able to move through wild rugged terrain as if they were walking down the street. They are the second oldest race on Arboara and are thought to have something to do with the near extinction of the Dahlkine as Belindar seems to have a hatred for the Nunuki and is actively trying to exterminate them. Out of all the races Nunuki seem to have the closest ties with rune as they can speak it without casting spells, Nununki are physically incapable of lying. They age similarly to humans though can live for a good one hundred and fifty years. Most Nunuki left in existence are affiliated with the resistance though a few walk alone. Nunuki have generally stayed out of the concerns of other races until recent years. Most people who do not know anything of Nunuki assume them to be savage creatures with ferocity comparable with orcs.

Dwarves

There are two main factions of dwarves, the steelskin and the fireforged. The steelskin excel at armor crafting and the creation of automatons. The fireforged are better at creating weaponry and are the only people in Arboara with the knowledge to make firearms. Steelskin are dwarves of the north, they are larger than the fireforged and are stockier. Both sexes have long beards and it is not uncommon to see a Steelskin who has hammered steel plates onto their arms, backs or chests. The fireforged though still thickly built are much more delicate then the steelskin. Only the men in their race have beards and they may stand two feet high. The fireforge take weapon crafting very seriously and the creation of firearms is a closely guarded secret. It is against the code of a fireforge to allow their weapons to be taken from them. Steelskin and Fireforge have a bit of a rivalry though are rarely violent with one another. Other races have attempted to take advantages of dwarves since the beginning of memory and thus they are suspicious of other races, though they are prideful in their work and are not immune to flattery. It is not uncommon to come across bandits with revolvers who have bought them off of dwarves. Dwarves can see in even total darkness, and their hardy natures keep them safe from all but the worst the elements can bring.

Elves

Elves first appeared in Arboara three hundred years ago and came from somewhere across the southern wastes. Being new to the land most races see elves as weak and generally useless. Elves normally have slim delicate builds, they have long pointed ears and either have blue or green eyes. Even the men in the race have feminine features. Elves are excellent in guerilla warfare despite how much they are despised by the older races in the land. Elves seem to have a connection to nature even greater then the Nunuki and can speak to plants and animals in their own form of magic, turning the very landscape against any would be enemy. Though the practice of naturespeak has become rare there are still quite a few elves capable of the phenomena. Elven culture is very much against any sort of close or melee combat, Elves also have a dislike for fire of any kind. It is common belief that Elves and humans are closely related as they can interbreed though halfbreed children living to adulthood is almost unheard of. Elves do not need to eat, for they can get energy from the sun in a way sort of similar to photosynthesis. They can store energy for a long time though in dark places they have the habit of becoming sedentary sort of like cold blooded creatures in a cold environment.

Humans

Humans are the most widely distributed race in Arboara. Though they lack any powers they are deaf to runespeak, making magic useless against them. Humans have been at war with every race at one point or another barring the Nunuki, Dahlkine and Dragons. Humans arrived in Arboara some five hundred years ago over the western tundra. Humans are very much united in this world and have some sort of unspoken rule that their own race comes first. Human bandits who come across mixed race parties will often spare any humans in the group for this reason. Many other races will not travel or work with humans for the reason that they simply do not trust them. Humans do not believe in magic for the reason that they cannot see it.

Orcs

No one knows quite when or where orcs originated. They simply appeared one day with an unquenchable thirst for blood and an insatiable hunger for loot. Orcs live battle by battle, if an orc lives through a battle it’s party does not win it is branded a coward and is banished from orc society to be killed if it returns. Orcs have green skin and muscular bodies standing at about eight feet tall orcs are incredibly strong though they do not care for any sort of art and an orc being able to read has never been recorded. They live nomadic lives in the western tundra where they move from place to place looking for any kind of loot.

Werewolves

Werewolves are the youngest race on Arboara. They first appeared a hundred years ago when a large group of humans entered a forbidden place known as the cavern of the moon. When they left they had changed. They had increased in size standing taller than elves with horrific yellow eyes. Their human forms sported wolfish fangs. Werewolves of both sexes have more body hair than humans. They had claws instead of fingers and on nights when the moon is out, they can turn into half man half beast monsters. Though they keep sentience during the transformation they do run the risk of succumbing to beastly instincts. They had increased senses, great strength, and resistance to many normal weapons. Though fire and rune speak could still kill werewolves as easily as any other creature, the werewolves could recover from blows that would be fatal to other races. Though they are not immune to such weapons if a werewolf is relieved of their head they will die, and if they are dismembered, they will never grow back their limbs. Silver acts as a deadly poison to werewolves and a single stab from a silver blade is enough to fatally wound a werewolf. Werewolf culture has them divided into twelve different clans, each of these clans hates the others and they are constantly at war with each other. It is impossible to befriend one werewolf clan without making enemies of the other eleven.

Dragons

Dragons originally came from beyond the northern mountains. For a time, they were considered beasts until it was found they could change forms. Dragons in their humanoid form are easily distinguishable from other races as their skin will be the same color as their scales and they will have a pair of thick horns on their heads. Dragons lack any great powers in humanoid form though in their true form their skin is as strong as stone, they have wings that allow them to fly great distances and they can breath either fire, frost, or lightning. Dragons can come in many different shapes and colors though even the largest dragons are no larger then seven meters at the very tip of their horn. Dragons cannot practice runespeak though they are not deaf to it like humans and can see and be affected by spells. Dragons are incredibly greedy and are often hired to assist other races in wars. Dragons are solitary creatures and do not normally travel together.(Playable in moderation).

Technology

Technology in Arboara is basically stuck in the renaissance period with a few odd things out. There are no cars or flying machines making mounts the most popular form of travel. There is no instant communication outside of magical means. Automatons exist as a primitive type of robot though they are made of a special kind of steel which has been mined mercilessly and are only made by steelskin dwarves. Primitive firearms do exist. (Revolvers, muskets, repeaters). The only thing close to a fully automatic weapon I will have being in existence is a mounted gattling gun and they are beyond rare.

Nature

The natural world of Arboara is a mix of the real and fantasy. Arboara is a cold continent and as such is inhospitable to warm weather creatures and plants. Arboara is home to plenty of species that are extinct on earth like mammoths or dire wolves. The plant life is reflective of the environment, with shrubs and pines being the most common plants in Arboara. The fiercewood is the only exception to these rules. The forest is warm and much more welcoming then the rest of the continent. The only problem with that is many of the plants in the forest are dangerous and act as a barrier to anyone who is not familiar with forest and its ways. The fiercewood seems to go against nature itself, as even elves cannot communicate with the plants and animals there.

OOC Info

Well here’s an RP I’ve been thinking of for a little bit. I do have a rough plot for the start in mind so if people show interest, I can get the other threads up quickly. Though the starting quest may seem random I do have a way of getting it connected with the rest of the plot. On the subject of races, I am not completely against races other than the ones I’ve mentioned, but if you want to add something make sure it makes sense to exist in Arboara. If you have any questions please do feel free to ask them and just put your interest below if you’d like to join.

I suppose this is enough people for me to get a character sheet up. I never really had a large group in mind so this'll work well if everyone who's shown interest actually joins. I'll get a character sheet posted and start the actual RP once everyone gets a sheet posted.

Here is a link to the Character Sheet thread. Once everyone puts in a character I'll start up the main thread.
