FearItself

There is nothing to fear
Arizona desert.
Middle of Nowhere

(collab with archur archur )

The young man was escorted from the APC parked in the desolate freeway, walking for what had to be miles, at least more than ten if the he could tell the rolling dunes from each other, but at some point, the agents escorting him abruptly stopped. One told him he would find his destination several, indeterminate miles onward, but they wouldn't be taking him any further.

"As if walking in the freezing desert at night wasn't my favorite thing already." he thought to himself as he sauntered onward. In another hour and a half he saw the shack in the middle of the desert. The man rolled his eyes and trudged towards the ramshackle wooden construction. Strangely though, a weak resistance gummed up his movement, as if he was pushing through layers upon layers of spider webs. As the shack grew in sight, a strong, disembodied voice echoed through the dessert, through speakers or the dehydration working into his cerebrum, he couldn't quite tell. "Welcome, Agent." The walls of the lonely shack fell away, revealing a cleverly disguised elevator, and a lone figure, who he assumed to be his new commanding officer. "Does everyone have to do this song and dance every time they return to HQ, or just the new recruits?" he chuckled as he approached the older man.

"It's a new practice. We like to try and put the fear of God into our recruits before we brief them on the monster of the week. You know how it is." The officer said with a smirk and a nod. He extended his hand out to his new agent, to which was met with equal enthusiasm. "Commander Abrams." "Agent James Hellsing." The two made it into the elevator and descended into the depths of the unknown.

"You know what you've gotten yourself into, right?" The new agent nodded. "Sir yes sir. My grandfather suggested this position to me after all." The CO tutted at his answer. "Sure, kid. And you're going to be killing zombies and aliens here, is that what he told you?" "No, of course not! He said that I would be working closely with NATO's most secret organizations, and that you, Commander, were the spearhead of such an effort."

"Spearhead, eh?" The officer smiled. "Sure, spearhead." He nodded to himself. "Alright Hellsing. Put any preconceptions you might've had before about NATO. We're going to debrief."

The elevator finally dinged at level B-3, and opened to an atrium of sorts, speckled with all manner of glyphs, runes, and magical flecks that sparkled through the air and across the walls, occasionally flashing a ominous red and deep blue, as if pulsing with energy. Various beings littered the sparse furniture all over the open area, from agents lounging around with guns and gadgetry on tables ,a woman in a mix of a century-fitting shawl and bonnet and fuzzy lounge pants and a loose fitting tee, and a actual dog, just to name some there.

"Attention Saint Squadron! This is your new agent, James Hellsing!" He patted the man on the shoulder. "I believe introductions are in order." the CO chided as shapes began to shift into focus from the poorly lit bunk area. It seemed that there were more on their way in. James just nodded still taken aback from the elevator alone, and every one of his instincts shouted Danger.

"....And with proper allocation of the above principle, in combination with the appropriate tools the Ulster theory becomes elementary to prove, such was the method of the a ancient Celts and one still favoured by institutes world wide today"

Casually adjusting her half-rimmed frames with a coy smile, the buxom women finishes addressing the auditorium having kept the rapt attention of her prospective students, though as of now there had been few whom claimed her gaze yet such was still a formality to accept periodic guest speaking positions. Wrapping up the lecture she takes note of a softly pulsing rune on her inner wrist with a twitch of her lips, making her way through the various faculty with offers of additional positions or other offers only to me met with polite evasions and referring them to her publicist. It appeared only a single unknown individual had triggered the alarm ward though it was still worth taking a look, most likely a new recruit to play with and take measure of.

Once out of sight she round the corner into a empty waiting room and with a swift motion seems to step into the shadows itself only to emerge once more from a similar embossed rune hidden amongst the many of the bunker area though with the former teaching attire fading away like smoke to be replaced with the closest thing to a uniform she holds. Her hair flows back freely in a magenta river with several jewelled silver adornments combined a myriad of runed and wiccan iconography, her upper body clad within gothic purple and lilac dress though opening up to reveal tightly fitted body suit. Appropriately garbed she places a hand beneath her chin as she regards the newest occupant of the facility closely, eyes fluttering over him to study from behind before trailing a finger along the mans cheek before leaning a arm over.

"Hmm? a Hellsing? Im hurt little Natasha failed to mention you acquiring such, though I suppose I should go first" moving past and turning in a graceful motion before giving a regal bow. "While there are a vast array of titles they do get a little presumptuous and prolonged at times, The Shadow, Warrior Maid etcetera etcetera" waving her hand idly with little interest "But for you I am Scathach ni Uanaind, though Witch Agent and simply Scathach is perfectly fine. Im known to dabble in a few magics and spearplay though I suppose within this little family I'm more a tutor and academic" every word being delivered through the same smile with arms crossed below her chest, others of the room would be fairly aware the sheer extent her more humble introduction was downplaying her nature yet she was rarely one to boast.

Cain
Arizona
Cain was lounging on one of the couches scattered about the room. He seemed to be taking up his time with a drawing. He hummed a little tune while he scribbled something over on the page. A blue crystal ball lay on the demon's lap, it was randomly glowing as the little annoying creature inside wanted out. Cain suddenly stopped scribbling around and chuckled at his doodle. Cain then crinkled up the paper and put it down beside him.

Cain grunted as he stretched his arms out backwards. He raised an eyebrow at the apparent new guy, he was about to say something when the spear lady with the name he didn't know how to pronounce introduced herself. Cain cleared his throat and began to speak.

"Name's Cain, I shoot shit" he said quickly with his signature nonchalance. "Calm down dude you look like you saw a ghost or a monster or something... Oh wait" Cain laughed at his own bad joke before lounging back in his seat again.

Sir Finneas
Arizona
Finneas sat on his stomach on the ground, holding what appeared to be a large book open with his paws. The dog seemed to be completely engrossed with the book. Finneas's eyes roved along the pages, his ears perked while the other agents introduced themselves. A pink tongue came out to lick Finneas's muzzle as he got to his feet. He stood stock straight without moving a muscle as he sized up the new recruit.

Finneas gave a slight grunt of annoyance at the demon's introduction. He did not like Cain much, Scathach had a much better and more professional introduction. "My full name and title is Sir Finneas Gargeous, Up until an unfortunate accident forced me to take this... Vessel. I was a human just like you, though I was a highly proficient mage. I assist in any matter I can though I'm no fighter" the dog introduced himself in a no nonsense tone.

Blue
Switzerland
Blue soared over a beautiful forest. The wyvern's piercing gaze scanned the forest floor for any sort of disturbance. She took a sniff of the pristine air as she suddenly began to dive downwards, Blue spurned up dust as she landed on the bank of a river. She closed her eyes enjoying the feeling of the sun warming her back, Blue shuffled forward lowering her neck to the river to take a refreshing drink.

Blue lifted herself up to her back legs opening her jaws wide in a yawn. Her eyes went back to the river where she spied the silver shapes of fish darting through the stream. Blue glued her eyes to a fish and waited stock still for a few moments before exploding into quick action pulling the water creature out of its domain.

The wyvern crunched down on the fish before swallowing it. Blue decided to simply sun herself for a bit curling up on the sandy beach. Her eyes closed, content with her peaceful forest where she was the most terrifying thing living in the trees.

Frank

James was still reeling from the womans surprising entry and barely noticed the mention of the word magic until he realised it was a dog that was talking to him. "A-agent James Hellsing Ma'am, sir ,and er...sir." he said to the elegantly clad lady, the kid on the couch, and finally the dog. He was clearly in a bit of a confused state of mind which only seemed to grow a bit worse as the door to the agents rooms slid open with a hiss. The air filled with the smell of Ozone and Dirt and the massive figure or Frank filled the doorway as he passed through it. He stood at least eight feet tall yet somehow moved without any sound. The grin on his face just seemed unnerving due to his corpse like body.

It would seem the display was unintentional however as the massive figure moved in front of james and with an unnatural speed snatch his had from his side and clasp it in his own. "Sup Goons." he said to his crew first without breaking eye contact with James "Welcome aboard kid, happy to have ya names Frank...you uh...you got any practice with the drums?" he said with a clear excitement in his tone as he shook james hand. Taken aback James simply shook his head saying "N-No sir." he said watching as franks shoulders sagged like a sail when the wind stopped. "Oh...well nice to have you anyway i guess. We're low on beer." he said with a now bored look as he made his way to the fridge in the kitchen area. "Abrams Any jobs today? Im starting to get restless again...Sir." he added the sir at the end continuing his long standing mockery of the CO's rank while still maintaining a modicum of respect for the man. He did like the guy but he wished the commander was a bit less wound up. He turned to meet the gaze as he cracked open a beer audibly and slurped it loudly.

Of course, the crew was about as informal as they could possibly ever be. He should've given a memo about first impressions before introducing the new guy to Saint Squadron, but no matter. The Hellsing was here now, with all the spine and nerves of a twelve year old boy. He patted the agent's shoulder like a father to a son. "Don't worry kid. You're in more than capable hands." He gestured to the assortment of monsters arrayed before him. "I'm sure you'll get to know them better well enough." He locked eye contact with Frank for a brief moment, barely acknowledging his question, before shouting something aloud. "STATUS REPORT!" As if called by the mundane words, a ghost of a man with a crooked neck passed through a nearby wall, squishing itself through the various protection wards, before vomiting a perfectly pristine sheet of paper into his hands and dissipating into mist.

Abrams briefly skims through the notes. Debriefs, behaviour checks, random psychoanalysis checks on a few choice individuals, everything that a internationally funded secret force needed to keep his superiors sated.

Meanwhile...

A woman was draped across an office chair in a connected room nearby, where monitors spanned most of the walls. She however, was intent on the one mere inches away from her face. Through her bulky gloves, she scanned through the latest fad she had dug herself into: pastel goth. Different sweaters with cute little designs on them straight from Japan, or some printing press in America. She couldn't tell anymore, since she could only read half of the store's website anyways. Her eyes settled on a particularly muted pink, closer to white than pink, with a graphic of a chibi panda getting decapitated, a rainbow fluid flowing from it's neck and in rivulets across it's chunky body. In her opinion, it was totally adorbs.

She screenshotted the sweater and printed the picture, and a little slip of paper extruded out of a printer that was just underneath the desk. She held the freshly printed paper in her hands, savoring the temporary warmth it brought, before not so gracefully falling out of her chair, crumpling the paper underneath herself. For the umpteenth time today, she was glad she was made of wood, and couldn't feel pain. She picked herself up and straighted out her own clothing. Another black pullover with a candied skull proudly presented on her chest, and a pair of sweats that was a slightly off tone black from her top. Any hint of her figure was hidden away under her baggy layers, her face just barely concealed by the oversized hood, made just for her. She was swaddled in her own clothing at all times, and that's exactly how she liked to be whilst off mission. Though, not so long ago, she heard Abrams call for everyone, and she only sent that ghost for the status report. She was sure he was fuming something fierce.

The oversized wooden doll plodded into the main hall, and saw most everyone was there already. Cain, Finneas, even the celtic lady was here too! She refused to attempt to pronounce her name. She didn't have a tongue to correct herself with, so every time she 'said' it, it always came out the way she thought it sounded, and never the way it should sound. So. she was always "The Lady" to her. She silently waved to the crowd, eyeing Abrams guiltily, and slinking behind Frank's large form, mentally greeting him in specific.

"What did I miss? Did Cain make a mess, or did The Lady mess up the wards again by accident?"

"... reports of a town suffering an intense resurgence of the Black Plague. At least, that's what we've fed the press when they prodded about the borders closing down. It's something more, clearly. The inhabitants aren't just dying from this so called disease. They're getting back up. We'll need all of you to go and solve this problem, and show our new agent just exactly what we do for the world's behalf. Is that clear?"

Ah, it was a debriefing. She spotted a new face next to the CO, who had already vanished up the elevator to do whatever he did. She was respectful enough to not use her ghosts to spy on him, and also so she didn't her ghost privileges revoked. She silently stepped out from Frank, and personally greeted the new agent with a somewhat forceful handshake.

"Hello, I'm Victoria." She held his hand firmly as she shook, as to not give him a splinter. "I'm sure you'll like it here, we're a fun bunch." She made an obvious gesture of looking back at Finnegan, then to The Lady. "...at times. Please, don't die." That came a little more sincerely than she'd like, but at the very least, she got to greet him this time. Now, she didn't have any qualms with vanishing back into her room and shopping for more sweaters.

Extracting what appears to dried piece of meat from places unknown the woman flicks the item across the room towards the form of Finneas once his introduction is complete, though her lips barely move the looking in her eye and tilt of her head is one many would give in approval to a pet. Fluttering her hand lightly to the Hellsing her eyes close for a moment "Oh you needn't bother with such formal addresses, Ma'am did always make me feel a little old" pursing her lips in a mock pout before returning to her smile "Though if you must "My Lady" or "Your Grace" always did have a far more preferable tone to them, regardless as you can see we do have quite the colorful bunch down here, but you do have time to get to know them and their eccentricity's" though said with cheer there was also a uneasy sense of foreboding in the reference to time, a knowing glint in her eye that quickly vanishes as she casually continues with a eye towards the Doll "By mess up you mean improve, the magical efficiency was dreadful and instruction was needed, there had been far too much focus on output than functionality and elegance." waving off the accusation, it was not entirely her fault that the changes she had made were struggled to be comprehended.

Though as the report begins to be given her attention and demeanor shifts slightly to more attentive and serious, though the odd sliver of playfulness still breaks through as she thinks over the announcement "Hmm? Well it certainly is believable, the bubonic was actually back within California among several other diseases of the period though that held little in the way of supernatural influence and more bureaucratic...regardless we do have a individual who is sufficient within the healing arts and I would like a chance to study the strain first hand this time". After standing in silence as she ponders the mission for several moments her head gives a firm nod, having finished a mental checklist of potential outcomes and resources required ranging from those for the best outcome to the worst. "Quarantine regardless will be needed regardless of on the ground co-operation and a full blockade to prevent any persons or creature spreading it beyond the area, I will employ the usual Murder from the sky..." suddenly stopping and looking to the Hellsing once more along with a faint chuckle, plucking one of the feathers from her collar free as it transforms itself into a purple eyed crow "and by that I mean my birds darling, don't worry they are just for surveillance for now" the crow giving a caw of agreement before returning to its feather form "The burning of infected material will also likely be required, so preparations for a forest fire cover story may be something to have the PR group get ahead of, mentions of a unusually dry seasons and warnings, combined with unsanitary conditions discovered from drug use and or production" There may be a slight concern with how at ease the woman is being with living dead and the destruction of a town then again there are times when her detachment seeps through.

"But as with all things it is a group exercise is it not? I do hope you all remember to do your homework on this one or there may be a few demerits thrown around instead of golden stars. Now does anyone else have questions or additional points to add on our current assignment?" there it is, the teacher is back, while the Hellsing may suspect such is a joke the others are more than aware of the ream of unnaturally adhesive star stickers and the chart that was kept for each member.

Deep within the under confines of a factory sat a suit of armour whips of smoke flowed out of the cracks all over its surface it watched a tv screen intently an old soap opera playing "hmm... you humans... so strange, yet your technology is wonderful and soo.. weak..." the armour spoke to no one in particular until a woman approached it, she had a hammer symbol tattooed to her head along with parts of her body replaced with metal that.. wasn't cybernetics but as if the metal was alive. the woman paused next to the apparently living armour "your greatness... our agents have found something disturbing it is likely that your presences will be required" she said with a bow, the armour turning to the woman apparently emotionlessly and slowly rising from its seat "hmm.. very interesting my friend now please explain to me what exactly you found" it spoke with a clear and calm tone beginning to head to the staircase "well your greatness we have discovered a odd.. energy signuture in a small town it could provide us with more unrefined to uplift" the armour paused for a moment picking up a sword and sheild that hung upon a wall "very well then let us go"

(sorry if this is short)

Cain(and Toby)
Arizona

Cain was back to leaning back in his seat. He watched the others introduce themselves with his normal bemused smirk. The demon turned slightly when the muscular form of Frank entered the room. Cain always had a feeling that something was a little weird about the team's leader but Cain often avoided his feelings as half the time they were telling him to murder people. "Morning hulk" Cain greeted Frank. He tapped his foot a bit impatiently, while debating about whether or not to grab his doodle and add more to it. He noticed the ghost lady enter and say something about whether or not he'd made a mess. "I will have you know, I don't make messes, I redecorate" he defended himself. Cain seemed to get visibly excited when he heard there was a mission to be done, "so we've gotta go kill stuff deader. Sounds like a blast" he said flashing a toothy grin. He flicked the crystal ball in his lap and the small huddled form of Toby appeared, the imp looked at the assembly and grumbled something. "Look alive tiny we've got a job to do" Cain ordered. Toby shivered a bit as if cold, "I am aware, you annoying whelp, I can hear everything from inside that ball you know" Toby gave an annoyed hiss before sinking onto the couch and attempting to curl up in a corner of it to get comfortable.

Sir Finneas
Arizona

Finneas felt Scathach's meat hit the side of his head and he gave a slight whine before shaking out his shaggy coat. Being treated like a pet was an extremely sore spot for the former scientist but he had the grace not to bring it up in the crowded room. Then Frank entered the room and acted as he always did, a bit too casual for the dog's liking but Frank had earned Finneas's respect many times over with his combat and other skills so Finneas supposed he couldn't let the large monster's attitude bother him too much. Finneas was quiet listening to the others introduce themselves to the new recruit until Abrams announced a report. "Undead, sounds like it could get nasty, I did a bit of work with the undead a decade or two ago. Not much but I may have something written down". Finneas commented trying to be helpful. His right paw went to the book on the ground and he attempted to flip through the pages only to be vexed by the fact he lacked fingers. Finneas sighed and closed the book. "Curse these thumbless paws".
