In another world, in a time forgotten to myth and legend, a dark tyrant has risen to power. Lord Ingarhaad has taken domain across the realm of Maelgor, spreading his influence like a growing shadow. The sorcerer has done this in part by delving into the dark arcana, forbidden magic that is as dangerous as it is corrupt. Also in his possession is an artifact that grants Ingarhaad unwavering command over the monstrous races of the world. It is kept well-guarded within the walls of his fortress, a grim keep settled high atop the jagged crags of the Fernalis Badlands.
Ogres, Trolls, Imps, and all manner of fiendish races make up the bulk of Lord Ingarhaad's growing army. The loyalty of these creatures is unwavering, held fast by the power of the Goblyn Heart. Where the ranks of Ingarhaad's armies are not filled by monsters, they are comprised of the shambling undead. The Southern Wastes are all but claimed by Ingarhaad's forces. The surrounding regions have recently begun to send in their troops and heroes to combat the evil sorcerer. Foul necromancy reanimates those fallen in battle against the monstrous horde, only adding the dead warriors to its number. Ingarhaad's influence spreads like a slow pestilence across the land, creeping West and North. Expeditions are often sent South, but the Red Basin had proven too inhospitable even for the Dark Lord's minions. Word has reached the great city of Marhawk, the seat of the Imperial presence on Maelgor. Now, trained regiments of hardened soldiers are being sent out of Marhawk to bolster the far reaching outposts and deal with the Dark Lord's army of abominations.
Meanwhile, Ingarhaad has dispatched special troupes of his minions. They have been tasked with seeking out the true aim of their master's campaign. These troupes are called the Disinters, and they seek out five ancient Demon Gates that are hidden across the realm. Ingarhaad has already procured one, and it is the source of his seemingly endless pool of magic. The sorcerer aspires to find and activate them all, taking from the gates enough power so as to become god-like. His creatures scour the land, delving into every cavern and traversing every ruin in search of the Demon Gates. The Disinters have begun to sack and burn unguarded village communities in the course of their search. The residents are tortured for information, killed for meat, or taken as slaves. Marhawk officials have sent their own parties of their finest warriors and wizards to deter and intercept the villainous Disinters in their mission.
This setting is one of medieval fantasy. Humans are the predominant race, though other races such as Elves are not unheard of. There is a feudal system in place, along with a ruling class. The setting is overseen by a single governmental entity in the form of an Imperial colony, Marhawk. Other outlying settlements are beholden to Marhawk, or otherwise seen as antagonistic. Ancient and unknown secrets lay in wait in the deep wilds, and yet other areas withhold a horrific type of overture. The region of the world this RP takes place in is known as Maelgor. The continent is only a couple of decades settled, and there is still much that has yet to be discovered.

PLAYABLE RACES
Humans ae the predominant race on Maelgor. But there are many, many others to be had. Players are not going to be held to a rigid list of races to choose from. I encourage players to take the liberty of making OCs of races not mentioned here. However, I am taking it upon myself to define a few of the more common ones as they would be presented in this particular setting. They are not the only races available. But as they are ones that are very popular choices, I am defining the version I am using in this RP.
- Elves
- Dwarves
- Orcs
- Goblins
- Ogres
NOT ALLOWED
- Races that are not going to be allowed in the setting as playable characters are anything that can fly, is angelic/demonic, dragons, vampires, or werewolves.
- Nekos, Kitsune, cat-people (and furries in general) do not exist in this setting. Simply because I hate them.
- World of Warcraft / DnD / Tolkien-styled Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs are not allowed. I already pre-defined these, so don't try to get around it with an OC race that is just one of these in disguise.
- Anything super huge to the point where its sheer size would be OP, is also not allowed. Ogres have been defined, and ARE allowed because they have been balanced with their weaksauce intellect. Other giant races are not allowed, to include Minotaur-like races.
- Any race who's inherent magic makes them too powerful or immortal, etc. is not allowed.
- I may add to this list as more examples are made apparent or come to mind.
MAGIC
Magic in this setting is not common at all. It is referred to as Arcana by most. Despite its rarity, Arcana is no small part of the world. Spellcasters are equally revered and feared for their control over the various arcana. Their involvement in the realm has shaped the very history of the world. Arcana is powerful here, but by no means easy to come by. Attainment of magical power is a combination of innate ability as well as research of ancient texts and artifacts. Only those with the gift may use Arcana. But without the knowledge of how to summon and wield their gift, an individual could go their entire lifetime ignorant of their magical capacity. Some races of creatures are inherently magical. Others yet are completely bereft of it. But for most, it is mere chance that determines if they have the ability to wield the Arcana.
Arcana that is not inherent for a race, is only activated through ritual. these rituals can be as simple as drawing a sigil in the ground, or as complicated as gathering multiple ingredients and performing rites that take years to complete. Generally, the more complicated and taxing the ritual is, the more powerful it is. Enchanted artifacts are a specialty of their own. This is because not only must the creator be knowledgeable in the magic that are to be imbued, but they must also master the craftsmanship to build the item.
Arcana comes in many forms. Arcana types are generally classified into the following categories:
- Elemental Arcana
- Arcana of the Fae
- White Arcana
- Dark Arcana
There are no specialized mages for the different types of Arcana existing. i.e. there are no Fire Wizards or Healing Witches. Every grimoire is as unique as the sorcerer who scribed it, and the rituals an evocations learned by one mage are as unique to them as their life path. Those who have dedicated their life to attaining Arcana, collect a myriad of spells as they are discovered upon. Particularly adept sorcerers constantly toil to augment and recreate their magics into new form, thus expanding the already immense wealth of spellwork already existing in the world. If all the Arcana in the world could be collected and cataloged into a single library, that structure would truly be massive to behold.
It should also be mentioned that the titles of Wizard, Sorcerer, Witch, Mage, etc. are all interchangeable. They do not refer to a specific class of magic wielder, and are merely synonyms of the same notion.
While this setting might have come off as a typical party-of-heroes-off-to-save-the-world type of RP, let me stop you right there. In this setting, the players will take the roles of the villains.
Yes, this is an EVIL RP.
In this roleplay, the player characters will be part of a group of Disinters. They will be taking on various tasks as assigned indirectly to them from Lord Ingarhaad. They will be out in the world, traversing the realm of Maelgor and searching for the Demon Gates (among other things). The players may have characters of a monstrous race, or even the non-monstrous races. It is totally feasible for a human or dwarf, etc. to have thrown in their lot with Ingarhaad's evil minions for self-gain (or self-preservation).
I expect characters of darker backdrops: Thieves, criminals, murderers, slavers and worse! Whether human or not, we are RPing as monsters. A group of Disinters coming upon a town should send the common folk fleeing, and the guards to assemble. That being said, try not to be an edgelord with your created character. The individual characters are not to overshadow the group. Also, you don't HAVE to be evil. You just can't be a "good guy".
This is not a first come, first served basis. I am requiring a writing sample from any interested members. Chiding in with your interest is appreciated. But until I get a PM with a writing sample, you do not in any way have a placeholder. Please do not submit character applications before sending a writing sample.
I am looking for 3 other players (not including myself) for this roleplay. 1 character per player. My own character will be put in a lofty position of leadership over the Disinter group. But really, this is only to be able to easily drive the story forward. The other characters are not only expected, but encouraged to be difficult to control. Just not to the point of stalling the plot progression, please.
I would like posts to be made in multi-paragraph format (2+). However, a single, strong paragraph is also acceptable. Posts consisting of a lot of dialogue are not expected to be as long. A degree of literacy is expected and enforced. The post rate will be two or three times a week at most. More often than this will be stressful for me to keep up with. Timezones really aren't of any consequence, as this is not a fast paced RP. I don't expect anyone to make more than a single post a day, within the pace I have asked.
(Delete everything in parentheses when filling out your CS)
(Insert Faceclaim here, and align to the left. No larger than 300px, please)
Name: (Your character's name, duh!)
Age: (Approximations are okay, too)
Sex: (Male or Female. Simple enough, yeah?)
Species: (See Setting Details for specifics of common races. Otherwise, check with me about original creations)
Build: (What body type does your character have? i.e. Stocky, Lithe, Lanky, Heavyset, Tall, Short, etc.)
Hair Color: (What color is your character's hair, if any?)
Eye Color: (What color are your character's eyes, if any?)
Distinguishing Features: (Any details that are obviously notable: scars, a limp, a glowing eye, tattoos, etc.)
Brief History: (Briefly describe your character's background. Try to keep it under 400 words, please)
Equipment: (List the stuff your character has in their possession: Weapons, armor, important items, a mount, etc.)
Skills/Magical Capacity: (List the abilities and proficiencies your character has, as well as any magical aptitude they have discovered)
- Don't be an asshat. This includes being rude to other players OOC, as well as bringing unnecessary drama where it isn't wanted.
- Don't be a weenie. This is an evil roleplay. There are definitely going to be some dark elements involved. If you can't hack it, don't join.
- Follow RPN TOS. If this was an adult-oriented site, I'd say go bonkers with the evil deeds. But it isn't. So there are definitely instances of villainy that (if included) will have to be tailored to a non-adult audience. Rule of thumb: If you think it will be too much, "fade to black".
- Respect the post rate. While I don't want people going off and writing their own mini-series with another player, I also need you to be able to keep up. I feel that two or three posts a week is a reasonable median.
- No OP or restricted character types. This especially pertaining to gear and magic. Our characters aren't meant to be the equivalent of military special forces. The characters aren't even on the front lines of battle. They are primarily searching for lost artifacts and terrorizing the locals. You don't need to be a god-killing warrior.
- Your character is more than their gear/skillset. Everyone has seen em', the character who is a shallow creation outside of their abilities. Try and avoid making characters of this derivative, please.
