Tobias wordlessly flowed through it all. The undying thirst for vengeance from the person in the mecha. The psychic messages of Caedmon. The constantly vanishing princess. The one thing that froze him, though, was the construct of marble and gold rushing through the streets of Castellan, carrying someone with a familiar stretch of silver hair. As he plunged her into the pool of magma, Tobias felt... nothing. No wave of relief like he'd expected, nor a sense of euphoria at revenge. It was like watching a theater play. Everything he fought for today had amounted to this: what he'd wanted. So why did he not feel any better? Still, he couldn't help but remark on the scene after Caedmon noticed Rook's actions. "How unexpected, the inevitable demise of the traitor princess occurring right before our eyes! Death feels like an easy way out for a murderer like her... Still..."
In the distance, surrounding Tobias, three units took position.
"Skip, here. In position, over." The sniper steadied his scope on his knee, peering out the window. The crosshairs were set on Tobias. "Looks like someone gave him some fancy gun tech for his injury. Guy doesn't know a warning, even when it hits him."
"Copy that. Same with Cap and I, over." Each person held a different device distinguished by a white and blue light, able to fit in the rectangular mortar beside them.
"Remember, men. Once the lamb is put down, exfiltrate immediately. Constant's orders. We're just about done here."
Rig looked up at Tobias, who was a mere dot in the sky at the distance they were at. "Think I can take a part of the Drifter's armor as a souvenir?"
Cap clicked his tongue. "Negative. We won't be anywhere near the fellow." He loaded up his device, first. The white light disappeared into the barrel. "On my orders, initiate the Execution, over."
Even after Athena's death, something felt amiss. It wasn't the mecha lunging at him yet again, nor any of the other irritable summoned that protested his need for revenge. Not the demons spewing out the castle, or any other conundrum he knew of. He drew a scowl, frantically looking around at the city beneath. "Everyone, something else isn't quite right, here..."
It was only a few seconds later when he saw it: a rectangular device, flashing white. Immediately after it came one flashing blue.
Cap took a breath. "Go." The mortar launched its munitions, leaving a trail of smoke as it flew high into the sky. From their distance, they could see Tobias spin around in time to face the devices.
A blinding light flashed throughout all of Castellan, sourced from the first device. Even from how far away their sniper was, he had to squint during the passing seconds for the sake of his vision. What followed was a blue sphere, circled by arcs of electricity and energy that appeared and disappeared in less than a second. It expanded outward, engulfing the zone containing Tobias, and the other summoned. The devices were a large flashbang followed by an EMP, meant for Tobias' suit and new gun arm.
Rig and Cap immediately packed their mortar, dissipating into thin air with use of their cloaks.
Skip peered through the barrel. "Taking the shot." He squeezed. And in an instant, he was gone.
Before he could even mutter a word of confusion, the devices exploded. One with a blinding, white light and the other sending what felt like pin prickles throughout his whole body. Tobias only screamed at the intense sensations. But it was far from over.
Still blinded and deafened by the first explosion, something with the force of a truck slammed into his chest. It surged throughout his chest plate, legs, arms, everything. The armor heated in seconds to the point it felt like a hellish oven. Then, relief, as the heat dissipated; along with the weight and sensation of the armor. Still lost in his senses, Tobias felt his body tilt backward horizontally as air suddenly rushed against his back. He didn't know it, but he was plummeting. All he could have done was scream out in sheer terror.
It all stopped at one point. His body against the sharp road, oozing out a warm liquid around him. Tobias finally stopped yelling, now dazed and groaning. Finally, his sight returned, though blurred. A metallic taste bit his tongue. "Great Scott..." He was cold, now. Unbearably cold. Using what was left of his strength, Tobias forced his head up to survey the damage. His neck stung with every inch moved. And, nerveless as he was, he could still produce enough adrenaline to panic for a third time. His armor was gone. He was stripped to the skin, save for a tang top and underwear. But already, he could feel it.
Tobias curled up, eyes glued wide open as he broke into a cold sweat. "Oh God, oh God..." he kept muttering. His new robot arm couldn't even move, no doubt because of the subsequent EMP. Now, it only weighed him down. It clawed from beneath the skin. It tore through the muscle and bone, stretching the tendons past their breaking point. Tobias' incomprehensible stammers picked up in pace. Tears flowed naturally down his cheeks through panicked breaths. "Help me! Please!" he cried in desperation. Tobias couldn't even have peaceful thoughts; the pain was too much.
It started with his limbs, eviscerating the flesh and spinning them in all directions. He felt his chest burst and mutilate itself as oxygen drained from his body. His yelps were gone, replaced by drowning gurgles. Tobias reached out into the sky with his free arm, staring into the dismal skies. Only when he lost sensation in his body could he truly think. This was what his victims had felt in the grueling hours of his rampage. This was fair. They must have had loved ones waiting for them in the afterlife. It was the same for himself. Mii, everyone on the old planet. Yes. This was fine. Tobias couldn't bear to look at the mess any longer. He shut his eyes, letting nature take its course.
If anyone stumbled over to his crash site, they would only find splatters of blood and shredded body parts scattered around the area.
