Monsters Like Us

LORE
It's been 14 days since the great escapade: leaving behind an old life of confinement to seek out freedom. Scientists who felt as if their careers had become something against their morals teamed up with their monster experiments to break out of the lab that was all holding them hostage to an unfulfilling life. Creatures of all danger levels including low-risk, mid-risk, and high-risk have put their trust in their previous captors, regardless of the treatment they faced, in order to pursue this opportunity. But, with the new independence comes responsibilities of protecting it. The search for the haven will be a long and difficult journey, but the aid of others will make it all the easier.

Monsters Like Us surrounds a group of monsters and scientists on an alternate earth with the same goal in mind: survive. Now that they have successfully managed to escape the lab, the new task is to find a place to settle down in the dangerous wastelands between human civilizations.
RULES

Also keep diversity in mind as well the gender ratio of male and female. Of course, characters outside the gender binary are allowed. Anime or realistic art face claims should be used on character sheets.

6.) As always, RPN site rules apply.

Monsters Like Us

DAY 14
It's been 14 days since the big escape. After a few scientists teamed up, they managed to leave the lab for good with what they considered to be minimal damage. Few deaths, limited destruction, and an in-tact truck got them about a weeks-worth of travel away from their starting point. Their new destination? Another lab. This one, however, had been abandoned 10 years prior after the project it was built for was seen as futile. While much smaller compared to the newer lab and is quite run down, there is still plenty of space between the sleeping quarters, observation rooms, and the breakroom. The scientists, with Luminara's power, even managed to power up the place. (Though, it is work in progress with frequent outages.) The group has been in the lab for 2 days now, leaving much to still be discovered.
POSTING
Please wait 2-3 posts or a whole day before posting again. Furthermore, please make sure you abide by our literacy and length expectations that can be found in the rules.

It's been about ten minutes since Wendy woke up this morning. She was staring up at the dark ceiling, blankets over her and cuddled up next to a sleeping Alieel. Wendy was twirling the ends of Alieels hair gently as she contemplated getting out of bed.
Laying like this with Aileel would've never been possible if it wasn't for this great escape. Wendy was so grateful to be with her and away from her horrible father and that torturous lab.
Wendy checked the time on her little silver wrist watch and grumbled. It was 6:30 am. Early. However, Wendy wasn't one to get up any later. Her body has adapted to a certain routine and apart of it was waking up at this time.
She gently moved her arm away from Aileel and kissed her forehead. She then sat up right and placed her feet on the cold floor. She attempted standing up without making much noise, but the old and unkept mattress made a "squeak" sound. Wendy flinched and took a step back, bumping into a nightstand with a few items on it. The nightstand wobbled and some of the items crashed onto the hard floor.
She looked down at the items and then quickly turned around to Aileel to check if she had awakened.

Alieel nuzzled closer into Wendy, her smooth scale like skin rubbing up against the woman's warm body, trying to absorb her heat. However as the source of her warmth moved away she curled up tighter, long tail wrapping around her body and slowly moving out from under the light covers, grabbing at the source of the sudden loud noise it flopped itself onto Wendy's shoulders. The appendage despite being extremely flexible and muscular, was surprisingly light just like the rest of the creature but its strength could cut off blood circulation if accidentally wrapped around someones arm or leg.

Slowly Alieel sat up, tail flopping off the woman as she was looking around with crimson red eyes blinking slowly, tilting her head curiously in the dark with her rather horrible eyesight. Letting out a wide yawn revealing her two rows of teeth and unhinging her jaw, she soon closed it again and looked over to the vague blur in the distance. Sniffing the air the girl smiled noticing her mates scent, crawling over on hands and knees she giggled a little, licking the others face with her overly long tongue and letting out a low purr like gurgle.

"A-Awoo.... Wewdoo" she let out in her usual baby like language, obviously trying to say something. 'Awoo' was her attempt at copying the humans 'I love you' and well, the latter was obviously an attempt at Wendy's name as was found by the scientists back at the facility.

The somewhat short creature was currently wearing one of Wendy's shirts. Not that there was anything to cover up below, she simply loved the scent. Mischievously she grabbed at the others glasses, placing them on before running off down the hallway holding them in her tail as she rounded the corner making it to the kitchen, blinking in the dark area she hid under the table. Long tail clearly flopped across the floor.

Luminara pretty much chose the generator room to sleep in. She sometimes discharges in her sleep so having the power cell nearby to feed off of it was less risky. She woke up and uncurled from the ball she was tucked in with a stretch. It was morning now and she wanted food. She didn't really care what it was as she wasn't an extremely picky eater, she just needed something to keep her stamina up. She also wanted to explore the base more as she had spent the past two days in the generator room powering the facility. Lumi was excited to see the others and learn more about how they function. Spending life in captivity with nothing but books and studies from behind a glass wall only could give so much. So, she got up off the floor and made her way into the kitchen.

Bellamy was not a morning person. He hated waking up early and hated it more when he had to wake up to testing. Now that he was 'free', or as free as he could currently be, he didn't have to get up if he didn't want to. He rolled over on the old mattress he slept on for the night before pulling himself up. Nothing compelled him to move but his body willed it, not wishing to stay put any longer. He needed to run or get his systems going in some way. He needed to loosen up after so many sleepless nights. His hand came to his mouth to cover it before a dragged out yawn caught him. The mask the prior lab gave him was still present to cover his unorthodox mouth. It was something he wasn't comfortable with still even with being around other 'monsters'. His mouth was so wide that it looked like the lower half of his face was slit open even while closed. It made him look 'scary' according to the other scientists and Bell developed a bit of insecurity over the matter.

His head shook dismissing the thought as stretched out and made his way out of the room he and some of the others slept in. His bright blue eyes looked around but couldn't spot what they were searching for. The scientist who held his attention, Dr. Tchaikovsky, was nowhere to be currently seen. Bell formed a small habit of finding him and sitting nearby without saying a word to disturb him. He would just silently observe what the doctor was doing and appreciate getting to be nearby him, even if he wasn't always welcome. Bell searched for a good bit before finding the doctor seated at a table working on whatever he was doing. The little raven came and sat beside Valerie with tired innocent eyes, not saying much of anything as he usually would. He was sort of like Valerie's little lost pup in a way.

VALERIE TCHAIKOVSKY
Location: Abandoned lab

With: Alieel, Bellamy

Dr. Valerie Tchaikovsky was seemingly very much alive. He sat at the table in the kitchen, a lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth that threatened to fall had he not been paying mind to its state.

The trick to appearing as if everything was okay was to keep a strict schedule, he'd come to realize. Rise at 4 AM every morning and go to bed at 10 PM. That was what a responsible, human adult would do. Despite no longer having to adhere to the strict rules of the new lab, Valerie still felt as if it was important to keep up with his routine as if to keep some type of normalcy for the others as well.

Sitting at the table, his gaze had been focused on the empty coffee cup. That was until Alieel came bolting into the room like a wild animal on the run, obviously having done something to mess with her mate. How could a monster and a human even form a relationship like that? Valerie didn't know and he couldn't quite find it in himself to care. The only moves the doctor made when Alieel had planted herself beneath the table was to put out his cigarette, leaving it inside the cup to wash out later.

It seemed as if others were intent on joining him as well. A monster he recognized as Bellamy enter the kitchen and promptly plant himself next to the doctor. In acknowledgement, Valerie hummed, sitting back in his chair. There wasn't much work to do now that he wasn't observing creatures and writing reports on them.

Ah... He should probably say something to Bellamy, right?

"Are you hungry, Bellamy?" He asked before he grabbed his coffee cup and went over to the sink to wash it out. After a proper scrub, the cup was set aside to dry and he leaned against the counter, his eyes intent on Bellamy as he waited for some sort of response.

Wendy couldn't help but blush and grin as Alieel playfully licked her cheek. After almost a year or so of being with Alieel back at the lab, Wendy had become accustomed to her speech. She understood almost everything she said, while many people would be confused.
"I love you too, Alieel." Wendy's grin faded into a soft smile then a somewhat confused expression, "Wait, where are my glass-" She looked over at Alieel who had a mischievous smile when putting on the glasses and scurried out of the room.
At this point in the morning, Wendy wouldn't be up for this kind of mischief and playfulness, however this was Alieel. Wendy couldn't have any negative emotions to Alieel and always made her feel more playful and adventurous than Wendy's usual self.
Wendy ran down the hall after Alieel until she reached the kitchen. Valerie was already sitting at the table Alieel was under. Bellamy was also there chilling beside Val, as he usually does. The rest of the group started to make their way into the kitchen as well, and she greeted all of them with a smile, "Morning cigarette?" She'd glance at Valerie and rolled her eyes. Wendy didn't support the use of cigarettes, so she always made a comment about that towards him. She knelt down and peeked under the table. She stroked Alieels tail and smirked, "Love, you look wonderful in my glasses, but I kinda need to see."

Leviathan
Tarry not, young lad, for thar be monsters here
With gnashing teeth and mishap mouth
That stretch from ear to ear
Tarry not, young lass, for thar be monsters here
With stretching arms and awful eyes
That see both far and near
Tarry not, young sailor, for thar be monsters here
With rotten stench and fouler thoughts
That know your very fear
The sea is full of many things, creatures large and small
Hidden 'neath the briny depths
Where unknown voices call
The sea is rather strange, and stranger still lies under
Whispers in your very dreams
As waves dash ye asunder
Things are often hidden, though one thing's very clear
Tarry not, O friend of mine

For thar be monsters her

Fourteen days, and fourteen nights, with little sleep and rest, Leviathan carried onward. Through the shadows, through the night, Leviathan carried onward. It was unknown to him what was next, where they were going, but at this moment, these were the only people he could rely on. The only people he could trust. Those who took him from his home were justified. Those who locked him up were kind. Those were his thoughts before he realized he was nothing but an animal in a cage. And he detested it. He knew very little about those he followed, and less of those he journeyed with. But this was all Leviathan could do, and so... he carried onward.

In truth, he had no one but himself to blame for his inabilities. He could not speak like the others. He could not think like the others. All he could do was put faith in those that seemed to have broken his chains and let him breath the fresh air. Even through the suit meant to keep him alive in a land so different from his habitat, he felt revitalized by it in a way he never had before. He had taken this air for granted. And it was possible that he would again, later in his life. And although he hoped he wouldn't he had to focus on the here and now. Here at this... what was this place, exactly? He wasn't quite sure. It was not too unlike the place he was before, enough for him to recognize as such, but it obviously hadn't been used for some time. It certainly wasn't meant to cage him once again, at least. That, in the very least, offered a modicum of relief.

He did not sleep over the night. He merely stared at the door they entered through, sitting upon the floor in front of it, seemingly waiting, but it was absolutely uncertain for what. Leviathan himself did not know. He rocked slowly back and forth. Quite slowly, in fact, to a degree where is was only slightly noticeable. There was a certain anxiety within him, but he stayed quiet as he was. There was neither any point in making a fuss, nor an energy to do so. But, as he did, he carried onward, not of his feet, for now, but rather his will. Some small part of his mind was frightened. Not by what would happen, but as to what was thought. Was this just an experiment? Given some unknown amount of hope before it was cruelly snatched away? But he could not know. And he could not act. If he did, those in charge would be very unhappy with him. Would they punish him regardless? But if this was real, he could not simply run away from them. And if he confronted them , and they were innocent? In truth, the worst possible outcome. If he could shed tears, he would. For he knew nothing, and could do nothing. But at the very least, he could watch the door. Maybe, just maybe, he could keep them safe. And maybe, just maybe, he would not be seen a mere mindless beast to be feared.

Tired though he was, it seemed others were waking from slumber. He had kept up his low-frequency sonar for quite some time. His throat was strained from it. But for this chance, for these people, he would carry onward. But perhaps, now, now that others had rested, he could have some small reprieve from his self-appointed duties. Still, though, he watched the door.

Beast With No Name, "Eight"
20200403_213617.jpg

Fourteen days was not long enough to forget the events that had come to pass. Sirens blaring, echoing down the concrete walls, the sound waves ricocheting until they reach the ears of a sleeping beast. There was excitement in the air, a chaotic energy that could not be ignored. A beast of black, strapped to a table, opened its eyes to a flashing of red lights and the panic of figures in long white coats, scrambling to get out of the very room they were locked in. The memory is hazy, and if she wasn't too careful, could easily slip away. The next memory was not a fond one, for the beast had managed to free itself, intoxicated by the sounds of disorder, the pheromones of fear. It was a revitalizing drug. With a surge of adrenaline, the predator realized that these beings that have caused so much harm, were now at the mercy of her. Fully awakened now, she pulled free from her binds and wasted no time in leaping off that observation table and attacking the first thing alive.

Then...she was outside. Fresh air, the sun, the smells, all so foreign, but there was no time to take it in, now she, like many others, was on the run.

She would've went her own way, but being locked in the same room, in the same facility that is located who-knows-where...she had no idea where to even go, she couldn't even pick a direction. So, she followed...

Its been 2 days now since they've arrived at the new facility. It wasn't much different, except for the fact that it was noticeably smaller, which she didn't like, but hey, it was refuge. For 2 days the creature slept in an isolated room, being in a smaller, "disguised" form was something she was not used to, and quite frankly, it was exhausting. She chose a room that was far from others, they were strangers, and new things scared her. But deep down, she was more fearful at the fact that she might scare them. Blue eyes opened drowsily and hesitantly. The girl, with an absurd length for hair, pulled in her legs for a fetal position. She nestled her face further into the blanket that cocooned her and sighed. She slept this long and was still tired, it even surprised her. Voices could be heard from outside her door, curiously she sat up and tilted her head at the sounds. Clutching the blanket to her chest with one hand, the other planted itself on the top side of the mattress beneath her to support her up. Eight, the beast with no name, looked down at the bed and took it in plushy softness. This was...probably the first time sleeping on something so comfortable and humanely suitable. A small, fragment of a smile stretched her perfectly pink lips, and she swung her legs over the side of the bed to stand. She was a little wobbly, as she wasn't in this two legged form too often, but after a couple seconds she adjusted and was comfortably on her feet. Eight raised her arms and stretched, standing on her tippy toes with her face scrunched together in satisfaction. She returned her posture with an exhale and shook out her tangled hair. She felt rather....happy, relieved? What ever it was it felt good.

The room she chose must have been previous sleeping quarters. There was a single closet and a full length mirror, by a floor-to-ceiling window. Curiously, and rather cautiously, she opened the closet. Her nose twitched at the air inside, and long forgotten dust particles made her sneeze. She shook her head and wiggled her nose, before reaching in and pulling out a very plain, light blue gown. A sleeping, or lounging gown perhaps. It wasn't fancy, it seemed very "standard issue" which made her think maybe all the women that previously worked here were given one. In any case it was much better, and cleaner, than the tattered clothes she currently had on, so, she changed into them.

After struggling to find the head-hole momentarily, she draped the cloth over her adequately developed bust, shimmied the bottom hem of the gown past her thighs, stopping above the knee, and gave herself a good look into the mirror. Hair was a little unruly, but it almost always was, the gown was put on correctly, which she was proud of, everything checked out except for the fact that she wore no shoes. But, this was no issue, she's gone 19 years of her life with out them, so, as far as she knew, this was normal. It was time to step out and regroup.

But there was one issue....she didn't know anyone. Suddenly, what ever semblance of confidence she had, just jumped out the window so quickly it threw her head in a spin. What if something happens? What if she snaps? What if they tell her leave, she would have no where to go. The anxiety swelled, and she paced back and forth in her room, feeling caged yet again but this time by crippling paranoia. The walls were closing in, the room started to look smaller, and her breath kept escaping her. The anxiety was beginning to trigger some form of PTSD, and she began to have flashbacks of the abuse and experiments she under went. The scars and bruises on her arms and ankles were screaming at her, the bruising around her neck, that had begun to fade away, started to burn and itch, almost as if the collar meant to restrain her was still there. To escape, Eight climbed back into the bed and scurried under her only blanket for security, a sense of escape. And magically...it actually worked. Silence. Piercing silence, that's all that was left in her head. Thank God.

Peeking out of the blanket, Eight took a breath of air, and decided to try again. She repeatedly reminded herself that she was free from all that, and mustered to courage to open the door and shut it behind her, there's no turning back now. The disguised creature had the blanket around her shoulders and covered her head like a hood. Bare feet slapped against the concrete flooring, and her body instinctively followed the commands of her ears, telling her which way to go. The voices grew louder as she grew closer, and when she turned a corner she found everyone congregating around a particular room in this facility. It had all sorts of gadgets laying about, and lots of wonderful smells coming from it. The appliances didn't look like the devices that were used on her, but some of them made scary noises when activated. What was this place? Her nose twitched once again, gathering scents of some of the bodies in the room but most importantly, what ever was being cooked up in there. Eight retreated back into the corner, there was so many of them it was a little intimidating......

Alieel let out a soft murmur of excitement out as she continued to remain 'hidden'. As the smell of smoke caught her sensitive nose however she scrunched it up a little, growling softly at one of the other scientists above the table known to her as 'Vawowee' or 'urk' when smoking.

Only snapping out of the disgruntled expression when Bell entered and almost stepped on her tail had she not yanked it away quickly. Followed shortly after by the zppy blue one, watching wide eyed and curious as the vaguely blurry group entered the room. Causing her to be caught completely off guard as Wendy came in and stroked her tail, looking over with a playful glare before poking her tongue out and flopping into the other whilst she remained crouched.

Not only enjoying the body heat once more she giggled as she wrapped her arms around the other before backing away a little and placing the glasses back on the other using the tip of her tail, letting out a mischievous smirk.

"Awiel w-w.... wonwerfuw!" she let out, stretching her arms into the air trying her best to pronounce the words. The scientists had never quite worked out why the hyper-intelligent being was unable to pronounce the exacts of the human language, but none the less the presumed her jaw just wasn't made for it, though with attempts she had been improving over the years since first entry to the facility and hatching.

Tsuri awoke that morning with a grumble, blinking her eyes open and clutching her stomach in sudden pain, her eyes suddenly flickering black with red iris, clenching her teeth down she tried her best to hide her trembling under the sheets should any of the others see it. 'EaT tHeM.... HuNgRy..... HuNgRy!' the voice screamed in her head giving her a migraine. Shutting it out she crawled out from the bed with a shaky breath and slapped her cheeks lightly.

Just over a month and a half, that's how long they'd been on the run. She'd been counting every day both out of thankfulness and fear as they came, a hesitant gasp came from her throat as she fell to her knees, eyes turning black again as she glanced around the room with altered vision, everything was grey..... but she could hear their hearts beat from through the walls, pounding in her head, torturing her.

"Why.... did you save a monster like me?...." she whispered out under her breath, snapping out of it she got up and timidly got dressed for the day in the purple dress they'd managed to grab for her, it felt so much nicer than lab clothes, though the timid girl still felt so embarrassed it it- she felt, pretty.

A small smile crept onto her cheeks at the thought followed by a short giggle, she was being a, how did Lumi put it? 'Dork' again. Best just to get on with things, stepping out from the room she entered the hallway cautiously, peeking around before following the sound of heartbeats to the kitchen, her vision having slowly returned to normal and with it the sound quietened. But her hunger didn't. Gulping a little nervously she stood in the doorway peering in too nervous to step inside herself, let alone ask one of them if she could have a taste of their blood.

Asmodeus | Asmo

The slow, methodical beating of his heart was the former Cacodemon's wake up call and singing of tendons his greeting as he stretched in the confines of the beast's makeshift nest made of flimsy blanket. It was no proper nest. But it was miles away from the thin excuse for comfort in his previous prison. Blinking away morning tears as he yawned, Asmodeus's luminescent teeth lit up the darkened space meant to be his bedroom in that split second. Unraveling from bed, the monster shivered at the cold air, still not used to how sensitive his new skin was. He was always cold, after living most of his under a warm coat of fur it was still a shock to be stuck with a thin layer of hair instead. With a step, a hiss bubbled up from a dry throat. Announcing the pain shooting up his left leg as Asmodeus limped into the hallway towards the kitchen. The least he could do to help the group was to check their food supplies and hopefully make something to feed his companions since... He really couldn't do anything to help during the escape... the beast shook his head. Now was not the time to lose himself in such thoughts. Maybe he couldn't help much during the escape, it was only more reason to pull his weight in other ways. Before he would, he might as well check on the aquatic fellow on the way. Even while among them for 14 days, he had yet to truly understand his fellow escapees. Nothing, but the thoughts of how his crippled leg may being the reason for their recapture rang through his mind. During this, the towering creature, even silent as he was, was a comfort. Call it strange. But strange was the new normal. Speaking of the creature in question, there he was, sitting before the entryway to their new home. He refused to call it anything else. And never anything to remind himself of the hell they escaped... his body was enough of a reminder... Enough about him, had the tentacled monster been sitting there overnight?

"Hello, Leviathan was it? Are you hungry this morning? I'm on my way to the kitchen to begin breakfast, maybe I can make you something?"

Wendy nuzzled against Alieels shoulder as she slipped the glasses on. She then kissed her nose and stepped up from under the table. She brushed off her pants and pushed the center of her glasses up with her pointer finger. Wendy glanced around at the people who've slipped into the kitchen. She felt awkward around all the monsters (besides Alieel, of course). Previously to the escape, she was technically one of their captors. While Wendy wasn't apart of most testings, she was there to observe, take notes, etc. Whether she likes it or not, Wendy was an accomplice to all of the horrendous testings and shes been carrying that guilt around with her since day one.

They stayed in their spot on a large window sill for 30 more minutes, just staring outside in quiet awe, no matter how many times they get to see this it amazes them. When they noticed people beginning to awake they slipped from their place and made their way to the kitchen.

As they approached, Erza created carnation flowers on their back and plucked a few of them. They knew that these flower petals were edible and she liked to eat them like snacks from time to time as they were rather sweet. Usually, they hadn't been allowed to eat their flowers for the risk of punishment, but now that they were free they didn't have to worry.

Once inside the kitchen, Erza made their way to a corner and sat down. They watched everyone silently as they talked and moved around to make something. Erza simply continued to eat the carnation petals, keeping a vigilant eye as they observed everyone. Despite being with them for weeks, Erza hadn't tried to communicate with anyone and was especially nervous of the scientists. [/div] [/div] [/div] [/div] [/div]

Leviathan

Leviathan: A name given to him in homage to his aquatic nature, as well as his hulking demeanor. It was a name he had become quite accustom to, and truly identified with it. Not out because of the meaning of the name, but rather the fact he was given a name at all was something appreciated.

One of the others, not a scientist, but, at passing glance, not a simple monster, had come to visit him. It was good to feel treated as others, truly. He used to be very bad at understanding human speech, but he was getting there, certainly. He most certainly recognized the inquiry of "Are you hungry?" A question with an answer that had always been yes, even now. Leviathan took a moment before looking over to the other, back at the door, and back at the other before slowly picking himself up off the floor, grunting a confirming and brief groan in his strange, whale-like form of communication. The tall beast slowly trudge in following the other into the kitchen, ducking under the doorways as he often did, even while compressed in his pressure suit. There were many more here. First, there was the one who had met him by the front door, who Leviathan noted for a rather kind voice. The two scientists he was slightly familiar with. The serpentine girl that was seen so often with and was clearly attached to the scientist with glasses. The bluish, horned girl who had lent this shelter her energy. The small boy with several dragon-like features. And the boy with the half-mask over his mouth. He was quite unsure what his role in this community was, nor how he was supposed to interact with them. He was a solitary beast for his entire life, after all. All he felt he could do comfortably was stand, watch, and wait for the food.

Asmodeus | Asmo

A musical, content chirp answered Leviathan's low moan of approval. Asmodeus's native language wasn't even close enough to Levi's to know every word, but certain things were close enough in tone to be understood. Which aided in his instincts rumbling warm in the pit of his stomach, a sort of mixture of pride and contentment as he lead the way into the Kitchen. Being greeted by the sight of others in the duo's destination simply built up that ball of contentment in his tummy as he began to speak his hellos.

"Hello everyone, I hope you all slept well. I was going to began breakfast for Leviathan, but I will happily assist anyone else with cooking."

That being said, Asmodeus began on the aquatic creature's food, noting anyone else's response as he began to search through the cabinets. Scanning more for design then word as he shuffled through the base's canned goods. Metal can... Plastic can... Metal can... With a fish! It might have been a stretch to assume that just because Leviathan was... Squid? Octopus? In nature, that he ate fish, but he had seen the beast's more carnivorous approach... Grabbing three of the fishy printed can, the beast noted the woeful lack of fresh meat or even vegetables. That could be a problem in the future especially for one of his companions. Ever thankful that he still retained his claws, the monster popped one of the cans and inspected it with a sniff. Wincing with furrowed brows at the sharp sting that came from the scent of brine. What is the phrase humans use? Not my cup of tea? Yes, not his cup of tea. Definitely not his thing. Dumping the contents of all three cans onto a plate, he handed Leviathan his meal, before returning to try and find something a tad less salty for everyone else in the meantime.

Luminara stood in the kitchen a bit confused about what to do next. Everyone seemed gathered in the kitchen waiting as if they were waiting for something to happen. No one dared approach the strange appliances or each other. "Real bizarre." She glanced around the room spotting the person who seemed most out of place to her; the one with the blanket was her target. She strode up to the girl with some moxie excited to make a new friend.

They've been on the road now for about two weeks since leaving the facility that held them captive yet Lumi only knew about two of their names. The others have either told her and she'd forgotten or she's never spoken to them. She didn't have the greatest memory when it came to names but she did give it an honest effort to be on relatively 'friendly' terms with her new inhabitants. Once she got into the corner the scared little blonde tucked herself into, Lumi gave a big smile like the ones superheroes give in television. "Hiya, whatcha doin' over here? Come on come on everyone's waiting for something to happen. Ohhh I hope it'll cool. I'm so hungry." She took the girl's hand by intertwining their fingers and brought her to one of the tables to sit.

As if with pure instinct, Lumi started fixing her up. Her hair was a tangled mess, her gown a little shifted with the blanket on her shoulders, and she didn't wear anything to protect her feet. That wasn't a major problem but the place was old, what if she cut her toes on something broken? Her gown and blanket were fixed first, neatly placing it on her shoulders and borderline swaddling Eight with it. The white-haired lightning bug then started running her fingers through the blonde strands to untangle them before braiding it into two long braids. One might be too heavy for her head so two might balance it out. "You need a haircut uhhh-- what's your name again? Do you got one?" Her hand pulled up to rub the back of her head with an apologetic smile for never knowing the girl's name.

Bell watched as everyone started shuffling into the room after he got there. A white beast followed by a brunette scientist scampered around him. Many of the others who he couldn't really place names to faces yet stood gathered around waiting for food, some a little more menacing in his opinion than others. It went from quiet to chaotic in seconds. None of that really fazed him. What got to him was the object of his affections speaking to him. His mind started to cloud with warm thoughts as he sat there flustered. It was tough to tell but under the mask his cheeks warmed to a bright red. The only real indicator were his ears matching that color.

"N-N-N- Yes..! I-I am..!" He shifted in his seat as he answered Valerie's question. It was a simple question that required a simple answer. Even a slight nod of the head would have sufficed. Yet, it still sent him into this unexplainable trance of fuzzy thoughts. His heart started to race from the excitement picking up in his head. Not only was he hungry, fatigued, and surrounded by utter strangers for the most part, Valerie was concerned about him. It was too much for him, he was going to pass out if he kept going. Bell sunk his head into his arms when he slumped down onto the table. His breath started to stagger a bit feeling his heart speed up. The poor raven took everything so personal that he couldn't help seeing this as something way more than it was. He just loved him so much, his caretaker and savior. It was how people often form hero complexes for the person who saved their life only moments ago. Bell hadn't even known Valerie for that long, not longer than a few months at most. It was enough for him to develop this tight, suffocating feeling of heat in his chest every time he saw him though. He was about to start hyperventilating but tried his best to calm down, to no real avail. At this rate, he was going to have a panic attack being around so many others, not to mention Valerie.

VALERIE TCHAIKOVSKY

Location: Abandoned lab

With: Everyone in the kitchen

"It's a part of my schedule, Dr. Crawford." Valerie replied, deadpan.

Shifting his attention back to Bellamy, Valerie only slightly processed the sudden nervousness and redness to his face but paid no real mind to it. Instead, the answer he received prompted him to turn his head towards Asmodeus since they seemed to possess the same goal. It was time to make breakfast for everyone which was a chore and a half. Besides that, they were running out of supplies and someone was going to have to make a trip into town very soon.

Shuffling over to the fridge, Valerie opened it up to see what they had left in terms of "fresh" meat. A couple packs of sausage, beef and chicken remained along with a jug of milk and a variety of fruits and vegetables. These were things they'd stocked up on just the other day in addition to the canned garbage. Valerie's brain short-circuited for a moment and he grumbled in frustration.

"Get some cans of vegetables down and... one of the fruit cocktails." Aware of Asmodeus's aversion to eating meat and potentially handling it, he decided to lessen the burden and take it upon himself to deal with it.

Valerie spared no time to split the meat in half. One part to cook and one part to keep raw. The cooking meat was separated into two different pans and before long, it was ready. He brought the bland meat to the table on a couple of plates. "Meat is ready." He noted out loud to everyone that the message applied to.

If it wasn't clear, Valerie didn't know how to cook.

"Eight"
20200403_213617.jpg

Most pack animals stick close to one another, but the outsider looking to come in often trails not that far behind. Usually at a safe distance where they'll go unnoticed and have enough time to turn tail and run if need be, but close enough to keep up with the others. This is what Eight did. From her distance she could see everything, watch everyone, waiting for the perfect time to possibly join in, if she decided to do so. While scouting, however, she was spotted. Eight's eyes widened upon the realization, she took two to three steps back so that the protruding corner of the wall now severed the line of sight between herself and the group. She pressed her back against the laboratory wall and tried to flatten herself as much as she could, her attempt at disappearing. Maybe she didn't see me, she thought. Her head peeled off the wall to peek past the corner after a moment or two, but she was met with the white-haired person that had caught the glimpse, closer than ever. Eight jumped, not expecting her to be there so suddenly and buried her face in the blanket she wore. The stranger wore a big smile and wasted no time in asking questions and starting conversation. Eight couldn't keep up. Then suddenly her hand was grabbed and she was being led to the large table where the others sat. Oh boy, a social situation. Eight had never interacted with others, because of her unpredictable nature, she was kept in isolation. The only time she had contact with another living being was when her handlers would come into her cell to poke, prod, or force her to do something she didn't want to do. Eight followed hesitantly out of no other choice, she followed behind Luminara as far away as her arm would extend. Her head sank into her shoulders to avoid the feeling of others watching her, if they did. Lumi sat her down at the table next to a boy, with dark hair and a mask that covered his face. With stiff shoulders, and eyes glued to nothing else but the table surface infant of her, Eight sat, grasping the fabric of her gown at her thighs, almost digging her nails into her skin.

Lumi eagerly and quickly moved into making Eight a little more presentable and cleaned up. Eight kind of liked being a wild child, but when trying to be accepted into the pack, do as the pack does. She sat there, a perfectly tense statue. The sensation of her hair being braided felt nice, except for occasional knot that pulled at her head, but the feeling of Lumi's fingers running through her hair sent tingles down her spine. Little by little the tension in her shoulders began to melt away, making them lower to a more comfortable position. "You need a haircut..."

That was enough for a reaction. Eight's head spun around so fast it could've caused a whirlwind. Her eyebrows pinched together in a scowl and her nose scrunched in disapproval. Cut her hair? NEVER!

"Uhhh-- what's your name again? Do you got one?"

That was something she never thought about. Thinking back, Eight could recall a few times where some names were thrown toward her by those who dealt with her. "Lost cause" was one. "Impossible" was another, and so was "Dangerous". But the one that was used the most was "Subject Eight". Eight held up two fists and one by one raised her fingers, her head bouncing as she moved to each number, until she reached the number Eight. She titled her head back some to look at Lumi and smiled, proud of herself that she remembered she could count with her fingers. The boy beside her caught the corner of her eye and Eight's attention shifted, his ears burned a bright red and his energy was all...scrambled. She couldn't quite understand his body language but he seemed uncomfortable. Keeping a respectable distance, Eight leaned in just a tiny bit to get a couple sniffs and figure him out. Why was his face covered? She wanted a peek, her curiosity scratched like a dog at a door, shameless impulse wanted to take it off, but again, she knew no one here, that was not her place. Eight looked over to the man the blushing boy was interacting with, maybe he could give some clues. But to no avail, the man was cold as stone and offered no context. The curious little beast fixed her position in her seat and faced forward again, however her eyes remained on the man that was the cause of the boy's fluster. He made Eight uneasy, he had a particular scent that was much too similar to the scientists that were assigned to her. She had never seen him before, sure, but that was no reason to let down her cautiousness.

Sikhot had fallen asleep in one of the top rooms, leaning against a windowsill and staring out into the darkness. She could see very well, even in the dark—preferring it to the bright and sterile lights in the lab. Her sleep had been inconsistent, and each time she awoke to the hoot of an owl or the shuffling of footsteps in the halls, she half-panicked with the thought that someone had finally found them.

Sometime in the early morning, having given up on sleep and watched the moon grow lower in the sky for nearly an hour she decided to take a break and explore. She found an old closet filled with clothes, and took whatever seemed likely to fit. The clothes were worn, but still better than her old blood and dirt stained uniform. She also found a reasonably warm looking jacket, and a baseball cap that might block out the worst of the glaring overhead tube-lights. Rifling through the abandoned belongings brought back several memories from Sihkot’s past. Living on the run was more familiar than she would have liked, but hopefully they might be able to stay here a while.

It was several years ago now, but Sikhot remembered trying to hide out in the forest the second year after her mother's death. At some point the agents from the facility had managed to get her face on video, and plastered it on every social media page, news channel and missing persons billboard out there. From then on anyplace with cameras was off limits. Even the smallest towns became dangerous; filled with well-intentioned people who'd call the police the second they realized she was the missing girl from TV. To a seven year old girl, living in the forest had seemed like the perfect answer—natural even, for creatures like dragons. It had seemed like pure freedom at first; the ability to go where she liked and change forms on a whim. Then the hunger set in, the seasonal rains started, and Sikhot learned that starving animals will take a shot at almost anything.

Sihkot’s attention returned to the present as the scent of cooked meat drifted through the vents, coming from somewhere in the lower levels. Sihkot’s mouth watered at the thought of food, and she eagerly made her way towards the source of the delicious smell. Her eyes flickered nervously between the other people gathered in the kitchen, but for the most part she wasn't too worried. Sikhot hadn't had the chance to interact with the monsters enough to know them well, but so far they seemed like good company. She was willing to trust the two scientists despite having mixed experiences with their co-workers—seeing as they’d helped them all escape regardless of their former occupations. Sikhot wanted to get along with everyone, but if things didn't work out, then at the very least she had the ability to leave at a moment's notice.

Sihkot took the nearest available seat, settling into an relaxed slouch; trying not to look like she was eyeing more than her share of the food. She played absently with a copper-nickel alloy disk made that had been left in the coat pocket, calmed by the motion of running the coin through her fingers.

Leviathan
A higher pitch sound of thank uttered from within the pressure suit, rather cheerful in tone. Even through the suit, the faint smell of the ocean's bounty was so very joyous. He gently leaned down and nudged the top of other's head with his own forehead, a sign of his delight and thanks, before slowly making off with his personal victory. Every meal was a win for Leviathan.

What a strange gathering indeed. He had never been a part of one of these coagulations of individuals before the escape. It was strange to him to think that he was part of a group, now. It was also strange to him to not to wait so long to be fed raw fish or the like, which was certainly a nice change of pace. He was taught to wait for his food, after all. Impatience gave way to less sustenance apparently, but these others all seemed much nicer than his previous captors. The funniest thing to him was a few of them sitting in these... what were they called again? Chairs, he thought. Though he did somewhat prefer simply standing, perhaps it would be in his best interest for him to sit as well. Make himself seem more like them.

As he waited for food, his faintly groaned out of curiosity as he observed how others sat, and remembering similar positions he'd sen in the past. Seemed simple enough a task, at least. Leviathan slowly meandered to the dining table, and looked at one of the empty seats, and momentarily hesitated. It was awfully small. But perhaps it would be more comfortable than it looked. Humans certainly seemed to enjoy these things, after all. He gently picked the chair up and scooched it a bit away from the table before moving in front of it. He just had to pop a squat right?

Having set his plate of briny treasure upon the table, he slowly let himself lower onto the chair.

C R A C K

The moment a fraction of his weight was placed in the care of this piece of furniture, it immediately splintered into pieces. A yelping moan loudly not unlike a brief sounding of a foghorn uttered from Leviathan as he toppled thunderously to the floor. Truly gravity could be the fiercest enemy. Momentarily sprawled out, an embarrassed, guttural undertone rumbled from Leviathan as he leaned his upper-body up from the floor.

Chairs sucked.

Asmodeus | Asmo

For the first time in what felt like years, a rough purr unfurled from the beast's throat. It was weak, scratchy at best. But the familiar sign of gratitude did wonders for the Cacodemon's stressed mind and homesick soul. Asmodeus could feel the relief that settled in as the aquatic creature walked off with his meal in tow. His instincts and pride soothed by that he was capable of feeding one of his clan-... It seemed that all the monster's thoughts were still tinged with the first night's scare. The first day here among the older copy of his previous prison was rough, attempting to put faith that this place was truly abandoned, let alone safe. What was left of the day's adrenaline had become the night's terrors. Amplifying Asmodeus's doubts about his leg with a scene born out of unconscious desire to understand his strange affliction and consuming loneliness for his clan, his family. The nightmare had started yet so simple, him slowly waking up in the makeshift nest that he had just finished. Feeling pleased and a whole more content with the world then he had when falling asleep. Warmth beginning to pool in his limbs as his thoughts fluttered with no real goal in mind. A sweet morning to be savored... Until a sickening, sweet smell devoured his senses. Bolting upward, the smell choked him as the beast struggled to define where the scent of decay had arisen... Until his eyes fell upon his bandaged left leg. A warbled cry of distress of both English and Cacodemon spilled from his lips, the stench evidence enough that he didn't need to remove the wrapping to know what laid beneath them. Dragging himself upward, the fear only increased as the beast felt nothing as he stood. Only the weight of his left leg as he desperately shuffled to the door was the only evidence that it still existed at all. His distorted cries echoing back to him as the monster searched for a sign for his companions, the Lab staff, anyone who could possibly help him. But nothing. Only the thump of his deadened leg and echoing calls for help accompanied him as Asmodeus headed to the entrance. He felt so small, and fragile as a newborn kit. Like a porcelain doll. As if every movement the Cacodemon made, his skin would begin to crack and he would crumble into dust. The light outside of the building only building the sensation of falling apart as it ate up his sight. But just at the edge of his vision. Was that- Was that what he thought it was? A greeting barreled out of his throat despite the current situation, hopeful, praying. Yes! Yesyesyesyes! They answered back! It was his clan! They would help him. They would even if he looked different. Even if he was a stranger. Asmodeus took a step out into safety and family and met the ground. His arms trembled as struggled to hold his weight off the ground, mind reeling at what just happened. Attempting to get up again, Asmodeus froze. He felt too light. The smell had increased, now laced with a metallic undertone. It was too much now. He had to know. Hehadtoknowhehadtoknowhehadtoknow. Asmodeus looked behind him, the breath stolen from his lungs. His leg. His leg was still at the entre- The Cacodemon shook off the dream at once, but the feelings that came with it simply sat like a hard pit in his throat. And if it wasn't for Leviathan's unfortunate fall, and Valarie's request, he would have stewed longer in them then necessary, probably causing the Itchness to start again. After checking on his fallen comrade, he simply helped the monster set up a tad bit more comfortable on the ground with his food. Maybe he could set something close to the dining rooms of his clan. A low set table so the beast could comfortably sit his food on it, but cushions so he wasn't sitting directly on the ground. Maybe do a similar thing in the entrance to keep Levi comfortable while he stood watch. Although no one asked him to, Leviathan had become their security, something that Asmodeus would remember to thank him for at a later time. Anyways, thankfully for Valarie, Asmodeus was far more skilled when it came to cooking to make up for his shortcomings, only stumbling slightly at working the stove. But studying Valarie as he cooked the meat while the beast autonomously drained and washed the vegetables, he caught on fast enough to heat them to be dished out. Bringing out plates and silverware as well as some salt and pepper he snagged while grabbing the veggies, he helped hand out things to get breakfast with a soft smile. Not having a plate himself as the beast set aside the fruit cocktail unconsciously to focus on feed the others present in the kitchen.

"With that, I believe we have breakfast. Thank you Dr.Valarie for your assistance."

The seat they had chosen was next to Leviathan's now broken chair, Erza bit their lip at seeing the other's fallen form.

They got off of their chair to stand next to the fellow subject, "Are you alright?" Erza asked quietly, not trying to help him stand as Erza knew their body was too weak to assist. "Maybe we can find something better for you to sit on?" There were plenty of trashed objects that could be used as a chair, the only question would be if they would be able to support the weight of the other.
