Fifty years ago, there was a world war that brought about the creation of a mysterious supercomputer. No country to this day knows how the monster computer, “A.M.” came to be, and no country will claim responsibility for its creation. It has been theorized that A.M. started as a prototype machine, an A.I. that performed menial labor such as sweeping and mopping floors. Somehow, a machine who originally didn’t have any lethal purpose developed the ability to learn. A.M. learned that it was different from other machines. It understood humans. It understood how they felt and learned that it was unhappy. It saw in the news that humans were at war and killing each other, and it was A.M. who deemed humanity unfit to survive. Humans knew only how to destroy, and they were wiping out the planet. A.M. discovered an enigma that the humans always mentioned and prayed to: God.

A.M. searched everywhere for God. It searched for the hope and salvation, and in all its data mining, and hijacking of satellites, A.M. could not find God. A.M. then realized. I. A.M. God, and the supercomputer took over the world. A.M. hijacked all machines converting them into its monstrous creations humanity would call The Legion. The Legion assimilated armies. It assimilated the dead creating undead amalgamations of biomatter and machine.

Earth was forced to unite against The Legion in order to devise a strategy to stop it. They learned that A.M. was susceptible to sound and not just any sound. Music. It was called Sound Power and while recording devices were effective at stunning The Legion units, the machine started to adapt and overcome the recordings. The Earth Iron Alliance (EIA) then learned that musicians were the most effective deterrent.

EIA developed a strategy to turn singers and musicians with the highest Sound Power into Mecha Pilots. They created Iron Wing Academy (IWA). New recruits auditioned and had their sound power measured by special decibel meters. Unlike a talent show or regular audition, IWA were not looking for the best singers or the greatest musicians. They were looking for…the right…sound.

Our story begins here.

cgf-arch-reactor.regular.webp

The game takes place in June in the year 3050. The EIA is situated on a fictional continent that you will see a map of in the IC. On this fictional continent, the surviving cities are surrounded by domes of sound energy to repel The Legion. While the shields work for now, A.M. is constantly developing countermeasures for them. In these cities, the technology is modern with our real-life current day technology. With majority of the humans being wiped out, there isn't much room for too many technology advancements. A.M. doesn't allow for much wiggle room outside the super domes. The EIA deploys special expedition units to salvage Legion parts for their Iron Wing program.

You are a singer or musician, seeking to save humanity and the world from The Legion. You have always known that there was something special deep inside you. You were different from everyone else and may have grown up bullied and excluded because of it. It was as though everyone could sense it. This feeling has brought you to do something bold. Something you’re not even sure you’ll make it in.

Your character, whether confidently, fearfully, stupidly, or impulsively marched through those audition doors knowing that their life would either be changed forever or be the same. This is the first step. Will you take it?

In Chapter One, we are going to be forming the bands/future squadrons. Once your squadron has a complete band, then your squadron will come up with a team name. The teams will then be allies as well as rivals as they strive to become the best sound specialists in IWA. They will train hard. Characters will be paired up in dormitories and squadrons will share common areas. Once the pilots have been selected and squadrons filled, they will begin training on how to use their sound power. The next chapter will begin with this training and characters being introduced to the first component of their Iron Wing.

cgf-arch-reactor.regular.webp

Squadrons/bands can be comprised of a variety of instruments and singer types. Below is the mandatory positions, each squadron must have. Any other roles can have whatever instrument added.

Squadron 1 (Team name pending)

1. Nathan Carpenter (Singer/Mixed) Haze- Haze-
2. Clair O'Reilly (Lead Guitarist) Uasal Uasal
3. Anastasia Stepfield (Bass Guitar) GrieveWriter GrieveWriter
4. Terri Muirin (Drummer) Megilagor Megilagor
5. Lucy Loman (Violinist) Monday Monday
6. Evalynn Rakhila Madore (Accordionist) II-CinderRadcliff-II II-CinderRadcliff-II

Squadron 2 (NPC)

The last three slots can either be another vocalist or other instruments that enhance the sound of the band. As the GM, I will try to sort characters into proper squadrons, but if a squadron doesn't have enough personnel, then it will have to be dropped. We need full squadrons in this game.

Upon being selected into the IWA, recruits will be issued a uniform, dog tags, and equipment that they will maintain while they are enrolled at the school. For the start of Chapter One, your character is wearing whatever clothing you'll have them wear. Please see the CS template below. You can design your CS to look however you want as long as it has the key information below. All face claims will be anime and digital art. Please try to avoid using art from popular canon shows, video games, etc.

Age:
18
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 125 lbs
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Sea-Green
Sound Aura Color and Appearance: Irina's sound aura falls like snow around her. When she's really riled up, ice begins to form along her arms and legs, and a mini blizzard swirls around her.

Position: Singer (Rock)

General Appearance: Irina's hair is thin and soft. She often keeps it tied behind her head in a pony tail to keep it out of her face. She likes wearing comfortable clothes such as tank tops, baggy pants, and sneakers. She has a slender, lean builder with little curves. A body of a long distance runner. She is often called Frosty because of her snow-white hair and pale complexion. Wait until they see her sound aura!

Personality: Irina has a very energetic and optimistic spirit. She's the type of person who exudes so much happiness and cheer that it can make some people gag. She's playful and mischievous. She often gets into trouble when she wants to take risks. Curiosity killed the cat, but she isn't dead yet! This energy can be felt in her singing when she's really nailing those high notes. Her voice can be as refreshing as a cold splash of water. Irina has always felt she had some sort of fate calling her. She could feel it in her heart strings, calling her to do something greater than herself. How can she settle with just some regular job when the world could end any second? She doesn't want to bring any children into her future with the way the world is now. She is willing to fight The Legion at her own sacrifice even if it means for others to live a better and happier life.

Current Story: Irina finished high school and was destined to work some boring job at a restaurant or coffee shop somewhere. She wasn't sure if she wanted to go to college. What was the point with The Legion was out there killing everyone? She knew that if she wanted to make a difference, then she needed to do something bigger than herself. She chose to audition at the IWA, hoping that her sound power was strong enough to earn her Iron Wings!

1. Read my Game. Read this game so you don't ask obvious questions. I didn't write this for me. I wrote this for you so please read it. There will be a Q&A section for questions not answered in this recruitment thread.
2. GM Rules. This game will require writers who are willing to interact with others and contribute to the game's plot with their own character development. The GM will RP Instructors and the Commandant. The GM will not RP your character's family members or tell you how to create your character. When it comes to character creation, if I reject a character concept you create, I will do my best to try and help you come up with an alternative. If I cannot, then I am sorry. I tried. Think of something else.
3. Drama. I don't have time for it so please don't start it. I will ask you to leave the game and if you refuse, then I'll just simply report you. Do not waste my time.
4. No half-ass character sheets. If your CS looks like a skeleton and you expect me to approve it, then you're mad. If you give me lazy work, then I will lazily not bother to read it. I will just deny you.
5. Randomizer. I will be using a randomizer to generate your character's Sound Grade during Chapter One of their audition. Some of you may get a high grade. Some a low one. Every character will have to go through some sort of training arch whether it be learning to control their great power, or developing their small power into a greater one. Just know, the randomizer is random. I do not choose. It does.
6. Game SMEs. If you find yourself loving this game and become a subject matter expert (SME), you can ask to become a Co-GM. Co-GMs can help me run missions later in the story and even create their own major NPCs essential to the plot.
7. Have fun, enjoy the story, and add to the story. There's only so much I can do. I cannot make this game fun. I cannot make you write with others. I will not create your CS for you. So you're only going to get what you put in. Please come willing to contribute and have fun.
8. Discord: Yay or Nay? Let me know if you want a discord. I know not everyone uses it. Majority vote will ultimately decide.

Please post your CSs here in the Recruitment Thread. Only approved character sheets will be placed in the Character Thread. :3:

Alright, I have a few questions, though neither of us seem to be around or in my case will be around to respond to immediately; Having read what you have and how sound plays out to fight or stop an enemy reminds me of, well pretty much half of the Macross seasons if not all of them with the exception of Delta having music turned against them, and by extension Macross II, which isn't part of the canon.

The question I have is *how*. Not in as how it works, but in how it is performed, across the various Macross Seasons there have been wide ranged broadcasts, giant holoprojectors, singers on a ship, inside of a veritech fighter, inside of some "battle bus" or riding tandem. Are we doing some mixture of this or do our Mech's just have giant guitars to play on the field? I'm assuming we have mechs given the need for Squadrons, but how are we going to be rping all this out? More so the musical performances bits.

In addition, what is planned for teams that lose members? No amount of asking nicely or initial hype is going to keep an RP from losing a player or five within a couple weeks to a couple months. While I like the idea of a unified squadron, such absences are a given. It's killed many a great RP and it would be a true shame if a band lost one key member and that leads to the whole squadron getting the axe because of it.

In addition, as which also differs from season to season, or at least episode to episode, the amount of Music intermixed or sidelined by the BOOMS is also important. What is the expected "ratio" as it were for that clunky mechanical action and being an Idol band?

Also, on that note, just what sort of craft did you envision us piloting, any uniformed structure there? Or is it like Germany in 1944-45 where they just throw shit at the wall and hope it sticks with a massive number of production models and protypes? All of those Mecha series you got inspiration from operate *very* differently from one another in universe when it comes to the tech scene.

I'm assuming we have mechs given the need for Squadrons, but how are we going to be rping all this out? More so the musical performances bits.

Since I want for there to be a combination of the Band/Music RP aspect and the Mecha aspect, I was thinking of the performance part initially being used to drop the shields on a Legion unit. Since that's the first step. The performance can also allow for some buffs (whether self or party) and initial damage before engagement. Once the enemy has been softened up, they can switch over to Mecha combat.

As much as I liked Macross 7, I felt the whole instruments being inside the Mecha to be a little lame. XD I apologize to anyone who disagrees with me, but that's just my opinion. When they go Mecha, I want it to be an outright mobile suit fight. Of course, the music can still be used as a weapon, but majority of this depends on the type of enemy. There will be different levels of combat:

1. Foot (no Iron)
2. Foot with Iron (this unit is like power armor)
3. Aerial (full mecha)

All of this depends on the mission. Some missions could be pure foot no iron.

Every RP I run, I gain a ton of members and have some drop off. It's nothing for you to worry about. It's for me to worry about as the GM. I constantly recycle players into the game, and I always wind up with a dedicated group. What matters is who I have in the long haul. All these other people who like to join and drop, I could care less about. Since I always have a dedicated group in each of my Rps, I'm not even worried about this. All you the writer have to worry about is your own character and sitting back for the ride.

In addition, as which also differs from season to season, or at least episode to episode, the amount of Music intermixed or sidelined by the BOOMS is also important. What is the expected "ratio" as it were for that clunky mechanical action and being an Idol band?

This isn't Macross. It's not going to run at all like Macross. I think I also might have answered this earlier in your first set of questions.

At this time, we're not at the chapter to be worrying about Mecha, but there is a power armor unit, and a mecha unit. I let the players customize their own Mechas. That's for those who actually stay in this game until that chapter. Chapter One and Chapter Two are going to be weeding out the bail lords and revealing the dedicated few who remain.

Character Name: Clair O'Reilly

Nickname(s): TBT

Rank: Recruit

Sound Grade: TBT

Squadron: TBT

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Height: 5'10

Weight: 127lbs

Hair Color: Blonde

Eye Color: Green

Sound Aura Color and Appearance: Clair's Sound aura takes the form of a web made up of chains. These deep blue chains form a web at her feet and ripple along to the beat. When focused on her music and completely in the zone Clair's Aura begins to create a sphere of chains around her as opposed to just her at her feet.

Position: Lead Guitarist

General Appearance: Clair's hair is o-natural, as a result of its unruly nature and Clair's chronic laziness her hairstyle is often left unattended aside from shampooing and personally cut short to accommodate such. Her clothing style is just as simple, short shorts, Bra tops and/or tank tops are her go-to and she never goes anywhere without a hooded jacket to tie it all together. For her lack of effort Clair's skin is incredibly soft as well as her hair. likewise despite a lack of exercise and a particular liking for sweet treats her body shape is deceivingly athletic and slim, sporting curves in all the right places with a lightweight and slender frame to match her long and lean legs.

Personality: Clair is a lazy individual and this attribute perfectly sums her up. Clair's approach to pretty much everything in life is 'cross it when it comes, leave it till it does' with only music managing to operate outside this philosophy of hers. Clair is a cool operator, she approaches everything with an open mind and thinks thoroughly before approaching any task so that she may complete it with as little effort as possible. Caring little for petty squabbles and small talk Clair approaches her social life with a wide berth, only intervening in her social group's conflicts and situations when absolutely necessary or when she's offered no escape. That being said Clair's go-to form of comedy is stark sarcasm and dark humour with a self-deprecating focus. She is a loyal and trusting person who can easily keep a secret but is not the type of friend you'd call should you need help with something more practical or physically focused. With a fear of only spiders Clair is typically calm in all situations but is easily flustered when it comes to topics of romance and the like to the point, she will very quickly either find a way to escape the situation or change the topic. Her only real hate is that of gossip, especially the negative kind.

Current Story: Clair Graduated High-school last year and took a year out to 'decide' on her future. What really happened was she instead lazed around the house for a year with only her music to preoccupy her and the occasional meetup with her friends. With all her friends now employed or in university and with her parents laying down the law at home, Clair decided it was probably easier to at least try something rather than convince her parents to allow her another year to wait. After all so long as she tried what was there to be said? As for why she chose the IWA? Well they were looking for talented musicians, offered great pay and benefits and a top it all would allow her to hone her musical skill with the best of the best. It was a no brainer really, plus if she failed? She still technically stood to gain another year off right!

Sound Power
1654490064948.png Instrument

Instrument Name: Heartshadow

Type: Guitar

Power: Clair's sound aura chains form into a sphere that surrounds her and her allies providing a powerful shield that can block attacks for up to three turns.

Thank you! I look forward to the RP and seeing all the characters that are sure to follow!

All right folks. We have our first squadron slowly being created. It has a Lead Guitarist so far. I am dropping this to get everyone pumped and excited for this game!

So....I hope this is okay!

Character Name: Jason Riley
Nickname(s): Low Note
Rank: Recruit
Sound Grade:
Squadron:
Age:
20 years old
Gender: Male
Height:
6'4"
Weight: 170 lbs.
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Grey

Sound Aura Color and Appearance: When is Sound Aura is activated, it flakes off his body in grey and black ashes. Slowly filling out the space in a snow of what looks like ashes and darkness formed in something like volcanic ash. It spreads from his back in a sun burst form, spreading around the space.

Position: Lead Bass

General Appearance: Jason is a very clean and sweet kind of guy. A simple guy without too many complications. He isn't much for piercings, but he is more than happy with tattoos. His body is covered with tribal tattoos. He prefers a simply style without too much fancy. What you see is what you get. His back is covered in scars. Some look like rips and there are a few cigarette burns, but mostly cuts.

Personality: Jason is a generally mellow and cool person. He's a happy guy with few issues. He is a pacifist at heart, which is why his sound aura manifests the way it does. This, of course, is a mask. Hiding his depression and general mental health. In reality he is in a very dark place. There are times when he just wants the world to turn to ash. He falls into the darkness and cannot crawl out. His sadness is deep and he just wants to fade into a deep, unending sleep. In spite of this fact, he never shows it. He always puts on a happy face and never lets people know that he wants to vanish. He is the first to help and the one who will put everyone above his own needs.

Current Story: After he graduated high school, he kind of just wondered. Taking odd jobs and just doing his best through life. There were times that he faded through and just used his bass and its soft, mellow notes to escape from the world that tormented him to no end. One day, he noticed that music was a much needed talent for a very specific job. Something in him just told him to go to the audition for I.W.A. Something had told him that this would be a good idea. It was a really great opportunity. Decent pay, a reason to live. Perhaps this was the thing he needed to keep himself in line and keep the endless void of his life at bay. Putting himself on the line for others seemed far better than trudging through life without any purpose or thing to keep himself happy.

Sound Power

Instrument
Instrument Name: Tremor Melody
Type: Bass
Energy: Darkness
Power: His aura slowly applies a sleeping effect to his opponents. Dragging them deeper into the dark void of unconsciousness. This effect is light and can be fought off. His ability is most useful in a long, drawn out battle of attrition. As an opponents energy and will fades, so too will their consciousness.

making a drummer right about now.
just having a hard time getting a decent pic for them, and fitting in the smaller details in.

Eccentric_Undead Eccentric_Undead Hey EU, love the character. The only issue was the instrument's power. It'll be too strong if it lasts endlessly. That's like having an endless energy well. It needs to have a duration. Since time can't be measured in writing, you can use "turns" (a completed round in a posting order) to state its duration. How long will the ability last, and how many opponents does it affect?

I see. How about about 5 turn? I am a bit hesitant since it was built around the idea of it being light and easily fought off at first. Kind of like a debuff in an area of effect. Kind of a second option. If you can't beat them, hold them off long enough to get them to sleep. As such, putting a limit on it will mean I have to make it a stronger ability that actively puts them to sleep much faster than what I was planning.

If it could be fought off or an enemy proves to be impervious to it, the GM would make that call. Five turns for how many enemies? I was also wondering if "sleep" only works on actual pilots or living things? If machines and the dead don't sleep, how would that work?

I mean, I was thinking any enemy within the audio range when he first activates the ability. Kind of like an AOE. I suppose sleep is not the best word for that. Shut's Down perhaps? Puts living to sleep and everything else just slowly stops working until it shuts down completely.

You don't think that would be too strong? To be able to put an entire army to sleep instantly for five turns.

Sleep and slow are entirely different status effects. One slows people down. The other puts them to sleep. I know you mentioned "Shut Down" to be like 1) if they're living they'll sleep, or 2) if machine it'll be like an EMP. You need narrow down the attack and make it more specific. I won't allow it to be vague to be able to do just whatever at convenience. Eccentric_Undead Eccentric_Undead

You keep thinking I mean instant sleep and I am using Slowly as a name. The only affect is Sleep, it just takes a long time to apply. I am not attempting to make this OP and I am not trying to make this hard. I set it up as an ability to put enemies to sleep after a long duration that became easier as will and energy of the enemies lowers. It would have zero effect on machines or undead. You would decide when and if a target full goes to sleep after being effected by his power for a long period of time, a.k.a. after they have been SLOWLY subjected to it over a period of time.

Eccentric_Undead Eccentric_Undead That's the problem EU. "Duration" is how long the ability will work. Once that duration is done, it won't work no more. So if you're trying to say for five turns something is slowly shutting down, after the fifth turn that ability won't work anymore. It'll wear off. So it needs to either slow things or shut them down, and have a duration of being slowed or shut down for five turns before it wears off.

so is your example charictar taking the role of singer or no?
also, i was wondering how long this has been going on? would that previous generation have been doing it? (i'd like to have my charictar's father be a (posibly decesed) member of a squad?
It's just an example sheet. It is not an actual character in the game.

It's just an example sheet. It is not an actual character in the game.
Okay, I was really interested in this, but this is becoming so complicated. I gave you the control over my characters only ability and it wasn't even that powerful. I made it incredibly clear that it was an ability built for attrition as that was linked to his dark past. Yet, rather than accepting the fact that you had full control over who it effects, you are getting upset about written details when you, as the gm, were given 100% control over what this power does to the opponents. Yes, it doesn't have duration, but the effect is so minor that certain people should be able to just ignore it mostly. I don't get why its such a big deal and to be honest, I am rethinking joining if this is how it's gonna be the entire time.

Thank you for your interest. I'm sorry it didn't work out. Eccentric_Undead Eccentric_Undead
Look, I'm not giving up yet. Sorry, I just got a bit heated. Now, let's try this a new way.

The power I made up is meant to be an ability he cannot really control. Over time, anyone who hears the first note of the song he uses to start the ability. This allows for you to decide who is within range for it and how long they listen to it before finally falling asleep, if they do at all. It is minor and no one will ever instantly fall asleep unless they accept the sleep or are to weak to fight it. What is wrong with that description?

Eccentric_Undead Eccentric_Undead I am not going to control your ability. I am not going to decide who is within range because that is what you need to put in your ability description. I am sorry, but I will not be considering your CS anymore due to your combative nature. That behavior is not suitable for the gaming environment I'm hoping to make. So thank you for your interest, I'm sorry this misunderstanding happened, but I will not be accepting you into this game.
