Mackenzie Cannonach

Mackenzie didn't like the idea of Skye ever learning the 'family business' - she'd been born ot it but her childhood had been less than pleasant. She'd seen her own mother turned into a monster and forced to kill her turned mother herself before she was ten, then spent most of her life hunting down her brothers after they'd been taken in by the pack. Even to this day she couldn't stand within reach of Brody for more than a few minutes without feeling the itch to kill him.

She reached out and reclaimed the bottle from William, bringing it up to her lips and drinking deeply. She closed her eyes and exhaled slowly between pursed lips as she felt the golden liquid burning in the best possible way. As much as she wanted to drink more, drink until she forgot she sought out the cap and screwed it back on to the glass bottle, returning it to it's home under her plastic lawn chair.

Mountaineer Inn - Out front of Apparment

"I need to get dinner going soon - want to have it started before Ash gets back with Chase. She requested a full course meal." She smirked. "Wanted to make him feel welcomed, like he was coming home. Did you see what she did to his room? Filled it with shit she thought he'd like, things he talked about while he was on Borseti. She found these Canadian cookies - had them imported, bought new blankets, and stocked his fridge." Mac laughed a little. "I can't wait for him to see the body pillow she got him. She printed a full size picture of Emile on it - so he wouldn't get lonely."

Mac leaned back and smirked at Will. "But what do you say to having a 'pool day' tomorrow? We finally had the cleaners here to clear it out, I can make a bunch of beach day snacks and we can just hang out and relax for the day? At least before we decide who's going out on the ghost hunt?"

Ashley-May Brandston

Ashley-May was content to hear that Chase was, in fact, excited about his engagement. She'd felt a little bit of trepidation that he had accepted the ring out of fear instead of love. Everything could be worked out so long as they still loved one another. Her smile quickly faded as Chase revealed why he was hesitant about committing.

"Lies." She hissed, stealing a glance at the wolf in her passenger seat before returning her focus back to the road - she needed to keep an eye out for the turnpike that would take them home. "Emile would have been in Vitae regardless of whether or not you two were together. He never came down here because you were here - you met because Mac is conniving, which happened to benefit you in the best possible way."

On the Road - Back to the Inn

She flicked on her flasher and took the exit onto the two single lane highway to complete their journey to the Mountaineer Inn. "He went to Vitae because one of his pack members was being held there. He made an agreement with Vitae and Borseti to become allies and work together; he was an essential part of that connection and he remained there to make sure the treaty stayed. You were certainly part of why he felt he could stay there, maybe longer than he intended, but you can't blame yourself for what happened. I'm sure he doesn't."

Adelaide nodded as Maxwell laid out his plans for her vehicle. She smiled warmly at the mention of a discount; she wasn't about to turn that down. As Maxwell mentioned his relief at being able to be an employee rather than the owner an proprietor of his own garage, Addy nodded (even though she could sense a certain amount of conflict in him even as he spoke the words). "I can understand that. I used to run a shop back in New Orleans -- not a mechanic of course -- and it could be a chore managing things alone. I guess we're all in it together now, though," she said, her grin returning.

Knowing the man was likely busy and might want to get started on her car, Addy decided to take her leave. "Speaking of which, I should head out and see where I can pitch in around here. Thanks again for the help, Maxwell. I'll have the money ready as soon as you're done. I'm good for it. And if not, well... you know where I'll be," she remarked with a wink before turning on her heel with a playful wave to stride out of the shop and head across the lot toward the hotel's rooms -- including the two figures lounging out front in lawn chairs.
Will Looking.jpg

William's eyebrows shot up as Mackenzie asked him if he had seen the "alterations" to Chase's room (courtesy of Ashley-May, naturally) and he simply shook his head. The cookies, blankets, and fridge stocking all seemed fairly routine and considerate things to do and he found himself smiling at the sound of Ash's sweet forethought... until Mac mentioned the body pillow. For the briefest of moments Will stared blankly at his wife, assessing her to see if she was messing with him. But there was no sign of deceit in her eyes... and honestly, it sounded too much like Ash to disbelieve.

Will sighed, dropping his face into his hands and rubbing with a sigh before making a mental note to drop by Chase's room later to see this body pillow firsthand. He pushed the thoughts aside as Mac moved on to the subject of a potential pool day. They had been working on draining, cleaning, and refilling the Inn's inground swimming pool since moving in, but only recently had they gotten around to it. William looked forward to seeing the results firsthand. They all deserved a break. "Sounds good to me, babe. I'll take any excuse I can get to get you in a swimsuit for a day," he joked, lightly jostling her foot with his own.

Will glanced up to see none other than Adelaide striding across the lot toward them. He wasted no time in standing up from the chair, meeting her at the sidewalk with a tight hug. "Addy! It's been--"

"Too long," the witch finished for him before heading over to greet Mac. "Hey you. Sorry I've been scarce since getting back."

Chase let out a soft sigh as Ashley tried to convince him otherwise but he knew that a large part of what had kept the Alpha at Vitae had been Chase's connections with it. His unfinished business and uncertainty on whether Borseti was in his future. That being said he wasn't about to argue with the blonde, given Ash had a track record for winning any such thing even if she wasn't always in the right. The man glanced her way occasionally, "I don't exactly blame myself for it as much as it's not something I can just let go and forget either." The thought of the pack or Emile being in any sense of extra danger because of his being around was something he lost sleep over on occasion. He'd taken it a bit lightly with Joe over the years, and the man had paid the ultimate price for it.

The man cleared his throat, "I know I don't have to tell you that, we all worry about bringing work back home." He shrugged his shoulders, once again peering out of the window beside him as they hit the turnpike. She had an ever growing family to worry about now after all. "It's just shown up on my doorstep one too many times, makes me wonder if that's just part of the curse of being a Werewolf." It was refreshing to have people to talk to so openly about these sorts of topics these days. There were so few in the past he could, Joe was always there, but there were still topics Chase found difficult bringing up with him. But his relationships with Ashley, Emile, and some of the others allowed him to do so. It was one thing he was thankful for when it came to the decision to stop at Vitae in the first place.

Mackenzie was satisfied to hear Will was willing to join in a relaxation day - she knew being stuck at the hotel for more than a day or two made him itch for another hunt. She knew the feeling well but hadn’t had an opportunity to go on one herself recently -not that he had prevented her in any way, between the hotel’s needs and Skye’s it was harder for her to pull herself away for a length of time. She’d committed to Ash’s dream of having a home for the kids and she wanted Skye to have all the loving memories of a safe home she didn’t have.

The Mountaineer Inn

Before she could press on to what they’d be up to the next day Adelaide was striding across the parking lot, from the garage, with a bit of pep in her step. She smiled as the witch finished Will’s sentence then addressed her. “No worries, only half of my spells and two thirds of my divinations have gone awry. Thankfully the spirits aren’t interested in fucking with a Prophet.”

Mac stood and stretched. “Walk me to the kitchen - I need to get dinner started and I have a couple of mixes I need you to look at. Might have fucked up a bit.” She stepped in toward Addy, hooking an arm around the witches before looking back to Will. “Keep an eye on the kids and don’t let Eli drink too much of my whiskey?” She winked at her husband, playfully.

Ashley-May’s smile faded as she listened to the very evident sad and deeply depressed wolf bear the weight of everything bad that had happened in his life. He called himself cursed for being a werewolf but she could hardly agree; his so called ‘curse’ had brought him Emile and the Pack, Mac, Eli, Will and herself, but she knew very well pointing out the good in his life wouldn’t change his perspective and come across as her being tonedeaf.

Instead she remained quiet for a time, letting the silence soak up between them. She released the steering wheel with her left hand, reaching across the console to slip it beneath Chase’s arm until she could thread her fingers with his. “I think we all made a lot of mistakes at Vitae.” She couldn’t bring up what happened in his life prior to when she’d met him. Sure, she’d learned plenty of details, but they weren’t her experiences.

On the road back to the Inn

“We went in with the thought that everyone could be trusted because they were there, instead of letting people earn our trust. And maybe some of us shouldn’t have been trusted as quickly as we did.” She squeezed his hand, knowing very well what had happened between him and Mac - she’d used him to infiltrate the pack with the promise of keeping watch of Joe and had failed. She was thankful he’d forgiven Mac, even if he’d never forget it, but she wasn’t sure that she could have as quickly.

“I’m not saying nothing bad will ever happen to any of us ever again but it’s just us here. We know everyone, and have been through everything together. The place has been warded by the Prophet and Nephilim. Addy is in to help ward for other things, Morgan and Brody have done hours of scouting around and are confident that nothing but humans have been on site for years, maybe even decades. I’ll keep you safe, heart included.” She smirked, glancing at him. “You don’t need to trust everyone, just me.”

Tara nods, both of them following him. Ginny takes hers as she listens, biting a small hole in the corner and proceeding to drink it like a juice box.

“Mm, temperature’s perfect.” She says, her eyes and hand markings glowing as she drinks. Tara usually prefers a glass for hers, so she waits, listening to Brody.

“Right. I need to check in with the rest of the nest soon anyway.” It’s hard for her not to be around vampires anymore, but she needs to be here as a liaison at the very least.

Adelaide 2.jpg
Adelaide arched an eyebrow as Mackenzie remarked that she had been up to no good in her absence. Addy had begun training the Prophet in basic spellcraft back at Vitae. Despite a few rocky patches, the woman had a natural talent for it and -- unlike many hunters (legacy or otherwise) -- she was open-minded enough to learn about witchcraft and rituals, straight from the source no less. She smiled as Mac stood up and took her arm, asking that she escort her to the kitchen. Will rolled his eyes but nodded at his wife's instructions to protect the kids... and the booze, waving at the women as they departed down the sidewalk.

Addy walked with Mac, arm-in-arm towards the kitchen. Casting a glance over her shoulder at Will who was now heading in presumably to check on Skye and Liam, she turned back to her friend with a shake of her head and a smirk. "You seem to have him nice and domesticated," she teased. In addition to molding the Prophet into a capable witch-in-training, her time with Mackenzie as a student had been good for their blossoming friendship as well. Where there was once some level of tension between the two -- due in no small part to Addy's past relationship with Will -- now she and Mac were close friends and plenty comfortable in one another's presence without the need for a "buffer" like Ashley-May or William. They'd even go so far as to share inside jokes about the latter when it came to his virtues and shortcomings as a romantic partner... a landmark that had horrified Will when he first discovered the two in casual conversation.

"So, what is it you need me to take a look at?" Addy asked curiously.

Chase breathed a relaxed huff as Ashley threaded their hands together, feeling rather embarrassed at how much he'd just let spill out all at once. Maybe it'd been bubbling up since the incident at Vitae, but if nothing else it felt good to have gotten it off his chest and the woman next to him being more than understanding. He'd chuckled when she mentioned protecting him and his heart, "That goes both ways." He replied with a wink and a light smile. "I do trust you, that's never been up for debate and likely never will be." It was the truth, and while trust wasn't something he'd come to terms with over time with many people in his life he could say she was the first at Vitae he felt at ease with. "Except if you hand me your screaming child with intent, that may be the exception." He added with a wry smile, attempting to change the subject from the one he'd dragged it into. "I might be the cool uncle in five years or so, but until then...."

Mackenzie rolled her eyes hearing Adelaide's tease about William. "Hardly." She smiled nonetheless at the prospect of it. "If that were the truth then I would have been the one out hunting with Elijah and he here handling-" She paused, swallowing back her disgust at just what she'd been dealing with between the two kids over the past few days. She took a minute to calm herself, walking in silence across the parking lot to the main building. "Anyways," She started again, clearing her throat. "I've been working on another pre-build spell of sorts, kind of like what we used for the seals towards the end?"

She led Addy around the side of the building, avoiding the main office as she knew Brody and Morgan would both be in there at these hours. Mac wasn't sure what had happened between them; in Vitae the trio was nearly inseparable and they'd all travelled to Borseti together after Emile had been critically injured but only weeks after that they caught news that Addy had left. She'd gone her own way, back to the coven, and hadn't been back until just now. Mac had her suspicions it had been Brody's fault, though she was totally biased.

Mac turned the corner behind the building with the witch in tow. "I'm stuck on deploying it. I've got all the materials right and the vessel is perfect but I can't seem to get it to work. OH! Sorry, it's an emergency ward…" She wrinkled her nose, but shrugged. "I want to use it for hunting, obviously, like a quick drop safe space to blanket ward against almost anything. It's not meant to last forever but long enough to regroup or retreat."

She pulled open the backdoor to the kitchen and stepped inside, pausing in step to stare at the three standing around in her workspace. She looked between the wolf, the vampire and the djinn before shaking her head. "Whatever you touched, you better be cleaning it before you leave."

Ashley-May smiled hearing Chase's chuckle, she was happy to know she could bring a bit of the man's usual jovial demeanour out despite the inner turmoil she didn't doubt he was feeling. She nodded as he said the feeling was mutual. She'd known for some time that the Keaton men were watching out for her. Elijah, in the many months after he'd become the Champion of Vitae and broken her heart, then mended it, had explained to her that not only had Joe, Chase's father but Chase himself had threatened the man on her behalf.

She knew that her friends loved her, Mac and Will expressed it often to her in a variety of ways, but she had felt a deep soulbinding connection to the Keaton's Clan after learning how much they'd cared about her wellbeing. Ash had befriended the pair and had known they were both good people, however after hearing what they'd done, separately and without influence from herself, she knew she and Chase would have a long lasting devoted friendship.

Ash laughed wholeheartedly hearing Chase warn her off about her kid. "He's a lot bigger than the last time you saw him." She teased, releasing his hand to return it to the wheel, turning them off of the single lane highway to the dirt and gravel road leading to the motel. Ahead the neon lights flickered against the skyline. "Crawling, might be walking soon and I hope he'll talk soon too, but no, there won't be any obligation to be Uncle Chase anytime soon."

Adelaide couldn't help but smirk as Mackenzie began to complain about Will being the one who got the opportunity to hunt while she was stuck at the Inn, only for the perturbed hunter to falter when it came to describing the indignities she had been forced to put up with. Addy was well aware of Mac's intolerance for the... less glamorous aspects of childcare, but didn't remark on it as Mac quickly switched the subject to the question of her pet project.

Addy listened to her idea intently, nodding several times, lips pursed and deep in thought as they walked around the building and toward the kitchen. After Mac finished, Addy began speaking. "That's... ambitious. It's more than I've ever attempted for sure. I think your materials and vessel are probably fine in theory, but you're meeting 'bandwidth' issues in practice. Warding against spirits is one thing, but protecting against angels, demons, and hellhounds is another all together... and having enough juice to do all that while shrinking the entire package down enough to make it portable. If you asked me to do that across an entire property -- like switching on an electric fence -- I could make do. But this is a whole different animal. I'll have to look into some of Noella's old texts and the ones Eli lifted from Ev--"

Addy had been on a roll ("down the rabbit hole" as Eli called it), speaking without care for the outside world as Mac led her into the kitchen and she suddenly became aware of the others in there with them. The witch stopped short, turning to regard Ginny, Tara... and Brody. "Hey," she finally managed to say, her tone almost breathless. "It's been too long," she added with a slow smile. "I hope everything's been all right with you all?" she said, her gaze passing between the three of them before settling back on the burly wolf.

"Thank god." Chase replied jokingly as they moved down the gravel path, "I'm happy to be an Uncle from afar." Seeing the motel ahead he could see it hadn't changed much since Ash had excitedly sent him photo's of it after the purchase, not that he'd expected much. Maybe just all of the walls being painted pink, or something like that. It was a decent place, even if Chase himself wasn't much of a fan of the location. "Any last minute things you'd like to complain about before you're thrown back into the new normal?" He asked with a light smirk, glancing her direction. The drives conversation had been about his own misgivings, so at the very least he was going to listen to anything she needed to air out before they got into the vicinity of any other ears. Though even as he asked the question he noticed Will outside one of the rooms. Chase threw up one hand in greeting as they pulled closer to the parking area.

Brody Cannonach

Brody froze as he heard footsteps nearing the metal backdoor of the kitchen - he had no fear about intruders; he trusted that the motel was more than safe in the short while he'd been here. He was terrified by the idea of his sister, Mackenzie, finding him using her kitchen for a meeting place for himself, Tara and Ginny.

He looked toward the door as it opened, cursing internally as the small hunter stepped through the threshold and made eye contact with him. He raised his hands passively and shook his head. "Didn't touch anything but the incubator door." They kept a bag or two at temp for the pair that needed its nutrients, the rest were kept either frozen or in the fridge until they needed to be consumed.

The Mountaineer Inn

He was surprised to see Adelaide step in behind his sister. He'd known that Adelaide would be joining them soon but he hadn't been sure on the timeline and didn't want to ask around and set the wrong impression. He'd befriended the witch at Borseti, finding himself drawn to talking with her and expanding his knowledge in the arcane - not like Mac was, of course, but more into the herbalism behind it. The pack used plenty of herbal remedies but he'd never once thought on what any of it was made of or where it could be found. Adelaide had made it … interesting to learn.

Brody swallowed and nodded, avoiding eye contact with Mac as she made a face at him. "All good here." He said awkwardly, shoving his hands into the front pockets of his jeans, turning towards the girls with him and ushering them back the way they'd come from the office. He paused briefly at the door and glanced back. "If you're free later, Add - Adelaide, I brought some of your things back from Borseti you left behind. I've got it in my room. Feel free to drop by later when you're free. I'm on the second floor, all the way at the end." He didn't wait for an answer or for Ginny or Tara to leave the kitchen. Instead he slipped between the girls and exited the kitchen back into the restaurant and out the main office door.

Mackenzie Cannonach

Mackenzie appreciated Adelaide's insight to what she might be missing - she viewed magic, casting and wards much like mechanics: anything could be done with the right parts, in the right places with the right fuel. She could see where her plans were likely getting muddled - something from each thing she was trying to ward off would or could be interfering with another component of another ward or spell.

She watched the awkward interaction between Adelaide and Brody, first the witch talking to three present but it seemed pointedly directed. Weirder yet, Brody made a hasty retreat and it wasn't because she'd caught him - again - in her kitchen. Even as he exited and told Addy he'd brought something for her from Borseti he never made eye contact with the witch.

The Mountaineer Inn

Brody left and Mac frowned at Adelaide for several quiet seconds before turning back to the back counters and her 'altar' as it were. "I'm not sure I want to ask what that was." She grabbed her 'grimoire' - words and items Mac didn't fully align with but she knew it was the proper terminology. She cleared her throat, flipping over to a page in the middle of the handwritten book to the casting she was working on, spreading the pages out for the witch to review herself. "So maybe I should roll back and start with just a single ward?" She half asked, half suggested.

Ashley-May Brandston

Ashley-May snorted as Chase's exclamation - he was not the only person who hadn't taken to kids being around either. Morgan avoided them at all costs, she'd noted. Not in a rude way but in a simple 'please don't leave me alone, I'm begging you' look on occasion. She wasn't sure if the future Alpha was adverse to having kids or maybe it was that these kids were human and all that much more fragile than true pack children? In a startling turn of events Brody was very much hands on, taking any and every opportunity to watch over and care for both kids whenever needed. He even went out of his way to ask to take them; he never went far, more often than not just taking them to the pool deck to play in the sand pit.

The Mountaineer Inn

She considered Chase's question and opened the podium for complaints for a minute before coming up with an answer. "Only that I've got baby fever and Elijah's keeping the secret sauce on lock down." She watched Chase's face for any sign of him either being disgusted or shocked but continued regardless. "I see his point: he wants us to be somewhere longer and more stable than the motel, fine, but we're not getting any younger and we don't have any idea if there ever we'll be a place that meets that criteria."

Ash sighed, pulling into her spot beside Will's truck and put her car in park. "We're hunters. It's not like we can just move into a suburbia and pretend we're not and we don't want to leave Mac and Will behind and move to Borseti." There were pages of reasons why Mac couldn't and wouldn't return to the Great White North for the time being. "Just felt like I … We were on the right path in Vitae and then with everything happening it's like Eli is afraid to keep living. Those months on the road put him back to the old ways and I don't know if we're seeing the same future any more." She smiled sadly and shrugged. "I know, a lot to unload but you asked."

Morgan Leroux

Morgan handed off the keys to their new guest after the payment went through. She pulled put a black and white stenciled map of the motel and roadside grounds and marked an 'X' over the the guest's lodgings. "From here it's just one set of rooms down, you're in luck that no one else has booked in that block yet so it should be nice and quiet." She circled the main building. "We're here, just down this hall is the restaurant; we're open from seven A M to ten A M serving breakfast, pre-packed lunchs are available after that until five P M when we start serving dinner. Dinner runs until 8 P M and then pre-packed meals are available after that too. You can find the laundry room here and tomorrow the pool should be open for use again!"

The Mountaineer Inn

She waved away the thanks from their new guest and watched her exit back to her car. Morgan then turned off the 'open' sign and clocked the main office door before dropping back behind her desk to finish off her days paper work. She needed to get her sheets in order before she confronted Mackenzie about the food budget.

rsz_adelaide_6.jpg
Adelaide waved a goodbye to Ginny and Tara, returning her attention to Brody. Her eyebrow quirked slightly as he began to use the nickname he and Morgan had given her, only to apparently think better of it. He was clearly anxious about something, though she resisted the urge to read him and find out just what that was. After all, Mac and her anger about him having been in her kitchen couldn't be solely to blame -- as intimidating as the tiny little hunter could be.

However, as Brody mentioned stopping by his room to pick a few things up, she felt her own anxiety. No, not anxiety. After all, she was hardly apprehensive at the thought of seeing Brody again. He had been nothing but a good friend to her in Borseti even after Morgan had distanced herself from the two of them. And just maybe...

Adelaide's mouth opened for a reply, but no words were forthcoming as the Pack Guardian beat a hasty retreat and she watched him go and she kicked herself for staring dumbly without so much as an acknowledgement of his words or a goodbye. It wasn't until Mac spoke to her that she was able to regain her composure turning to face the woman, flushing slightly and averting her gaze at the hunter's initial remark. She nearly let out an audible sigh of relief when Mac instead reached for the grimoire rather than continue this potentially awkward line of conversation. Addy cleared her throat. "That's a good place to begin -- find the most demanding one I'd suggest. The one that requires the most raw reagents. That'll also give you an idea of the lower limit on your vessel. You can build up from there."

William 2.jpg
William was just stepping out of the Inn's room -- having checked on the kids to ensure they were sleeping soundly -- when he spotted Ashley-May's car in the distance. He smiled, crossing his arms to watch its approach. As it pulled in, he saw Chase in the passenger seat and returned the man's wave with one of his own. He let Ash pull in before approaching the vehicle, opening up the back to begin fetching Chase's bags for him while he climbed out.

"Welcome back to the madhouse," Will said with a grin, offering the wolf his hand. "Good to see you again."

Tara and Ginny watch the…awkward event between Adelaide and Brody quietly, neither sure what to do about it. Hearing that they’re talking about magic, Ginny perks up a bit. She’s always wanted to make an attempt to learn, but she’s not sure if it’s something only humans can do.

Tara finishes her meal first, and heads outside, licking her lips a bit nervously as she gets ready to call Franklin. She hasn’t spoken to her boss in a while, and she’s worried there will be more bad news for the nest.

Chase Keaton

Chase was visibly flinching in his regret at Ashley's opening remark. He really didn't need to know details that deep, or named in that way. The man already moving to open the door and escape anymore of the awkward conversation, not bothered that the car was still moving albeit a low speed in the parking area. Though just as he was about to Chase heard the distinctive noise of the doors locking. I asked for this. He nodded to himself in agreement, turning his head back towards the woman as she continued unflinchingly from his attempted escape. His facial features did soften as she voiced her concerns though, and he found himself scratching at his beard momentarily in thought while she finished.

"I did ask." He spoke in agreement and let out a huff. "Well for the record I can see where he's coming from, and before you say anything I'm not taking his side. He probably just wants to see how this motel situation pans out before going through with anything." Chase gave a light shrug. They were out of time for one on one talk as Chase noticed movement out of the corner of his eye followed by the back door opening. The man flashed Ash a quick apologetic smile before opening his own door and stepping out. Will greeted him and Chase took the offered hand in his own and shook it, "Oh I don't know, it doesn't look too chaotic at first glance." There was a hint of sarcasm in his voice as the man could hazard that it was indeed a madhouse around here given both the owners, workers, and clientele. "I'm sure you guys are whipping this place into shape and keeping it all very organized." Chase winked at the man playfully.

Paying the deposit in cash, Maggie thanked Morgan for her help. She then excused herself to go grab some bags and head to her room.
<So, we have quiet a few wolves and some other scents I don't really recognize, but am reasonably sure they aren't human.> Siegfried reported through the mental connection he shared with his witch.
"Interesting." Maggie mumbled aloud as she shouldered a few bags and closed her car.
<I must admit, my imagination is sending me images of the Bates Motel but with werewolves. But I feel there is something more going on here. If I'm right about the other scents, then we potentiality have some sort of shared space for non-humans. Mostly peaceful too, considering the state of this place.>
Maggie waited to get inside her room and close the door before replying,
"I agree."
She dumped her packs on the bed and shrugged out of her coat.
"We need more answers to what's here before acting rashly."
There was something about this that was nagging at the back of Maggie's mind, but when she couldn't tease out directly why, she ignored it. It could wait. She unzipped one of her bags, pulling from it a 9mm pistol, a silver dagger, and a container of salt. She hid them around her person, joining a throwing knife made of iron that she generally always had.
"But it always pays to go prepared when snooping out the truth."

Mackenzie Cannonach

Mackenzie frowned at nothing as she considered the witch, her mentor's, suggestion to start with the most demanding ward first. Something she hadn't considered either; she would have started with the simplest and moved on from there. Basic mechanics: start with the thing you know will work, that you can take apart and put together with your eyes closed and expand from there. Continue testing and rebuilding and dismantling until you find the shorts and then you'll see how to work around them. This method was backwards to her thought process and she knew very well it was the wall that prevented her from expanding her abilities, limited as they were.

She knew she would never garner the strength and raw energy that Adelaide could harness; the fact that the witch was a physic on top of things certainly didn't help Mac with her comparison but Addy could tap into a central well of power unhindered by making promises to demons (or gods, as she'd discovered.) It was a point of frustration for her and something she was willing herself to move past it.

Mountaineer Inn - Kitchen

Ginny had expressed her interest in the work Mac had been doing and while she appreciated the Djinn's interest she kept telling the young woman to reach out to Adelaide when she returned. Mac didn't have enough knowledge to even start trying to share it with her, let alone try and help her if she somehow tapped into something over Mac's head.

With a sigh she nodded, looking back around the kitchen. "I need to get started with dinner." An open statement to the two other occupants in the kitchen with her. "If you stick around I'll put you to work." With the announcement made she headed across the kitchen to the massive walk-in fridge to dig out the various half-started dishes she'd prepared earlier in the day at breakfast.

Ashley-May Brandston

Ashley-May rolled her eyes at Chase's huff. He expressed that he understood and sympathized with Elijah's stand but quickly followed up that he was taking no sides on the matter. Truth was she didn't want him to take sides; it was matter for her and Eli to hash out in private and the last thing she needed or wanted was for anyone to add their two cents to the conversation, it was a sure fire way for Elijah to be annoyed with her trying to get others to meddle.

Unnamed Bus Terminal

What she needed was someone she could vent to, someone that would listen and offer advice or maybe comfort her in a way. She needed a confidant and perhaps Chase wasn't it? He was quickly saved by Will opening the door and welcoming the wolf home to their 'chaos' that was the roadside motel.

She followed suit, climbing out of the car to head around to the back and open the truck for his luggage.

Adelaide 2.jpg
Adelaide could practically see the gears turning in Mackenzie's head as she explained the process she would use with the reagents. She knew there would likely be plenty of hands-on time working alongside Mac working on the project -- possibly with Ginny, judging by the young djinn's apparent interest -- in the coming days. Addy didn't mind, however. It would give her something to occupy her mind and her time... something other than Brody and Morgan, at any rate.

As Mac shifted gears and announced her intention to begin working on dinner, Addy immediately moved forward and began looking over the breakfast leftovers. The witch let out a low hum of approval as she removed the plastic wrap from one plate, revealing the bacon underneath. "Mmm. I've missed your cooking, Mac," she remarked. Tugging her eyes away from the food, she glanced up at the "head chef" in question. "All right, where do you need me?"
