Dice Our Shenanigans

-Isa Bianchi-
“Moss and Isa’s room, Chickadee tavern “

“I care~” Isa purred alluringly. Chuckling as he teasingly twirled a strand of short white hair with a finger, lightly tugging. “I’m glad to hear that.”

Once he got a nod from Leh dazed Moss, the redhead gingerly pulled the shirt up; revealing the angry looking stitched gashes. Not looking away from Moss’ eyes until he couldn’t roll up his shirt anymore. Then he pushed himself up to see it, narrowing his eyes at the sight. He just wanted to check on the stitching, making sure it didn’t brake from their passion-filled kisses.

He’ll call Renee the next time they come back to Bird village. He has a feeling that Moss will be against healing right now.

“Let me kiss ya this time, hm~” Isa started to comfortingly massage Moss’ sides as he leaned back down, kissing from his neck and all the way up to his lips. Tenderly sipping before pecking on his cheeks, forehead, nose, and eyelids.

"Ciros Labyrinth, The Highlands"

Moss nodded, too pleasantly out of it to speak. When he re-emerged from the daze of Isa's loving touches, he asked if he could touch him without his gloves in the way. "And will you let me touch the scarring on your shoulders too?" He covered his black hands in comforting kisses, and ran his warm hands up and down his shoulders and back, reassuring Isa with his gentle touches that his scars didn't make him less desirable.

The next morning found Moss being a happy little spoon under the covers, languidly snuggling his nape towards Isa's lips for kisses. He was sleepy and warm, and it was so cozy talking, eating breakfast in bed later, and the pulling Isa into his arms for a few more stolen moments of dozing together.

He was in good spirits from last night, as they shopped for the supplies they needed. Moss bought a ragnite lamp and ordered a better set of armor and weapons from Sen that he was going to get at the end of the week before they left for Cliffdrift village. He told Isa all about the things he knew about the labyrinth, as they made their final preparations and showed him the revised map Vera had drawn for him. Then after safely leaving the village, Moss asked Isa if he was okay with riding him in his orca form, else they would arrive in the labyrinth way past lunch time and that wasn't enough daylight to hunt.

It took a lot of convincing, mostly the offer of fluff, but Isa agreed and they arrived at the hunter's camp where Moss introduced Isa to Vera and the Asger hunters, and asked them for any news about labyrinth. All was normal as usual, the weather was sunny, and the hunting packs had already left early in the morning. With that, they made their way to the ruins, and roped down into its depths.

“Bird village to the ruins!”

Moss reminds Isa of cats whenever they get high from catnip. Eyes dilating as they stare off into the distance while being sleepy happy. It’s cute and the redhead kept his loving touches for a while, just keeping the merman relaxed. When he stopped, believing that maybe he is falling asleep is when Moss asked to take off his gloves. A sentiment that the redhead didn’t count on. Not when his hands are gross with the rotten flesh color. He didn’t think Moss would ask that or ask for touching his scarred shoulders.

So the redhead took a deep breathe and took off his shirt before quickly grabbing the bedsheet to cover his chest shyly. Pulling it close to his tattooed neck as he shivered from the merman’s sweet kisses on his bare hands. It was certainly an interesting night for Isa as he finally put up his illusion of the Southern lights and slept with his shirt back on. He is still not used to the intimate touches, but he welcomes Moss’ care.

In the next morning, feeling warm and cozy, Isa woke up. Spooning Moss from behind and lips on the back of his neck. He’d nibble lazily as they talked before having breakfast in bed. Afterwards, the redhead yelped in glee when Moss surprised him with his hug as he pulled him back to bed to snuggle some more. It’s nice, Isa wished they could be officially dating already but now is not the time. They have things to do once they part. It doesn’t mean that Isa wouldn’t look for Moss afterwards.

Isa had a skip in his step as they shopped for materials. When Moss looked away for something, the redhead quickly went over to Johnny, whom he spotted selling breakfast breads and cheese; to ask him for something and quickly writing down something important. “I think these are the right measurements for the both of us. I’ll pick them up at the end of the this week, hm~” He told the tailor before running back to the merman and grabbing his hand, squeezing it gently. A bag’s strap on his other hand and over his shoulder. “Ready!”

When Moss asked him to ride on his back, Isa did hesitate. His reasoning? “B-but you’re not a chocobo or Smoky. . .” It took a bit of convincing—— bribing him to touch his fur for a long while —- but he agreed. Isa turned invisible as Moss changed from Orca to a sheep. Safely leaving the village as they made their way to the hunter’s camp. After Isa politely introduced himself, grinning playfully, he followed Moss to the ruins. Gawking and excitedly mutter as he slid down the ropes. “This is lovely~ No wonder the raptors like it here. So much room and potential food sources that might be trapped here.”

”The architecture is gorgeous too.” Isa tilted his head a bit as he looked at one of the pillars, spotting a guardian statue at the top and holding up the ceiling. It was menacing, claws spread out and ready to pounce should they cause harm. “I think that’s a panther design . . . Hm. I wonder if the culture here worships night cats or something . . . O-or not.”

There’s other animal statues on top of the pillars. One of which took him off guard: a flamingo on it’s nest . . . Weird.

Moss smiled. "I knew you'd like it here. And there are the flowers, Isa!" he bounded over to a bed of vines where the purple flowers glowed dimly in the shadows of the ruins.

There were ancient carvings and mosaic engravings on the old stone floors of another language, this one it seemed much older than Elunore. The sound of dripping, and cascading waters perpetually filled the labyrinth, and every now and then whenever they passed a shaft of sunlight, they would see underneath the puddles of water some carved stone slab gilded in gold. The deeper they went the more puddles they found, until their ankles were deep into slippery muddy streams and half flooded buried chambers. Moss showed Isa the blue chalk he marked on the corners of the passageways he passedyesterday, and the chamber with the sitting idol where he fought the raptors. There was nothing left of them but smelly bones swirling with flies.

They found muddy tracks here that led deeper into the labyrinth. They were coming close to the parts of the map that the Asger Hunters never reached. Moss continued to mark the corners with blue chalk, drawing on the map with charcoal whenever they found a shaft of sunlight. But these were getting fewer and fewer, until they were forced to make light.

An hour after mid noon they came upon a chamber where at a distance the sunlight streaming down on the floor seemed unnaturally bright, but moving closer, the floor was in fact made entirely out of gold. The chamber seemed to be a half buried temple where another stone idol, this one with a big nose, and smiling fangs, sat looking down on the gold floor. There were carvings written here, pictographs, the same ones on the mosaic stone floors that they passed. And basking right in the middle were three lazy raptors.

Moss immediately turned off his lamp.

The raptors were surrounded by dry blood and the ravaged carcass of some six-limb creature. Two were sleeping, and one had it's eyes closed, but its mouth was open, and two small birds with a blue-black plumage and yellow chests were hopping around in its jaws, entirely unafraid and pecking scraps off its teeth.

What would Isa like to do?

"Ciros Labyrinth, The Highlands"

Isa walked over to the bed of vines where the cluster of Ciros flowers are, smiling warm as he reached out to gently poke a petal. “How lovely~” He purred.

As the pair made their way through the ruins, the redhead kept an eye out for the carved hieroglyphs on the floors. Geeking out quietly whenever he spotted a new mosaic, realizing that the hieroglyphs were block-y, depicting animals that are commonly found in the area. “That explains the animal statues, the people here respected them as if they were guardians.“ Isa mentioned, gesturing with his lamp at one mud covered mosaic depicting a dark jaguar pouncing on a demon-like figure underneath moonlight. He wouldn’t be surprised that the mosaic would hold a secret spell somewhere, but he continued to follow Moss. Not pausing in his steps as the merman showed him his chalk markings that managed to stay in place.

“That’s smart. I should do that more often whenever I visit a ruins.” Isa commented.

Just as they passed through hallways and rooms, is when they spotted the three lazy raptors resting on the half submerged idol. Isa grinned impishly as he turned off his lamp. “Wanna sneak attack?” He asked in a whisper, mischief dancing in his indigo blues. As if he was ready to play a prank.

"Yeah, that's probably the only way to safely do this." he nodded, chuckling. He discussed in whispers with Isa how they were going to do it, before quietly making his way behind the rocks to the closest one.

"Round 1"

After the planning out, Isa watched Moss make his way to the raptors. Grabbing his raven staff as he walked a little closer to the lazy raptors. Then he chanted something under his breathe, the eyes of his staff glowed brightly.

Suddenly, all three raptors are tied down by thick vines. Bodies tightly squeezed as it held their legs together and jaws shut closed before the raptors could cry out. The birds flew away in time, missing a few feathers.

- Moss Adamaris -
" Round 1 "

The raptors thrashed in place, surprised. Moss quickly leaped down his hiding place and thrust his lance straight down through the skull of one--- it fell ,limp, as he pulled his spear out in a gush of blood. He moved close to Isa, shield up to take any snapping jaws coming his way, and blocked the bite of one that almost ate a chunk of Isa's leg, before pushing his spear right underneath its jaw.

The last one thrashed wildly, teeth trying to snap at the red head, but the tight vines kept it in place.

"Won!”

Isa flinched when one tried to bite his leg, relieved that Moss is here with his shield. He raised his staff up and bonked the last raptor’s head. Hard enough to hear a crack. “Rest in the Southern lights peacefully.” He prayed, watching the trashing body lay limp.

”. . . That went well.” Isa said, grinning as he started to pull the now relaxed vines off. “Do we just take the toes?”

" Victory! "

"Yeah." said Moss, looking relieved that Isa was alright. He flung the blood off his spear, before strapping it on to his back. He helped him saw off the toes. "That went much more smoothly than my first hunt yesterday." he grinned, agreeing with him. "I think with the two of us we can finish off more than just six today, and hopefully clear the den before we go to Cliffdrift."

"Yeah, Vera said that they know how to avoid hunters and drag away cattle. "

It turned out that they were indeed much smarter than that. Because what at first glance seemed to be an easy mark: a limping raptor slowly running away from them into a dead end, quickly turned into an ambush as four raptors sprang up from behind them and chased them into the waiting jaws of four others that had been hiding, waiting to pounce in the other end.

"The sneaky monsters!" Moss drew his daggers and stuck close to Isa, back to back, but their sheer numbers overwhelmed him and one latched its large hooked claws on his back and bowled him over, snapping its jaws over his arm. Crying out in pain, Moss stabbed the beast in the eye, as six more came down on him, claws grinding on the shield on his back, biting and pulling pieces off his armor.

Meanwhile two were herding Isa away from Moss. One lunged at him, but missed, the second though pounced and knocked him down, long hooked claws raking his chest as the jaws opened wide to eat his head.

“Oh sh-“ Isa yelped as he covered Moss’ back, but there were so many of them-!

When he couldn’t feel Moss’ back anymore, the redhead quickly turned around only to leap back from the two snapping jaws. Leading him away from the merman, is what Isa believed. He dodged the first raptor, going on one knee to let it fly over his head. Only to have the other pounce on him easier, knocking him down. It’s claws raking his chest-

Only to rake on leather armor underneath his shirt.

Isa jabbed his staff inside the raptor’s mouth as it strikes. Using it’s own weight to finish itself off when he yanked it out of it’s bleeding throat. Pushing it off and he made his way towards Moss, touching his leg.

”We’re leaving!!” The redhead yelled, blue flames bursts.

" Escaped!"

Jaws snapped at the rushing Isa, but he dodged them all. Moss rolled away from the death pile, bleeding, sidestepping jaws as he tried to reach Isa, but the monsters closed in on him again, and jaws locked on to his shoulder and pulled him back, shaking him like a rag doll --- Isa touched Moss' leg, and in a burst of blue flames, the jaws closed on nothing but air, and the raptors looked around bewildered in their feeding frenzy.

Moss was unconscious on the ground and bleeding profusely when the two reappeared out of thin air. But he was breathing.

“Ciros ruins”

They landed in the room where the idol is, the raptors’ corpses still laying in the same spot.Gasping, Isa checked on Moss. Putting a hand under his nose and sighed in relief to feel the gentle breathing. Then he took off his coat, starting to rip another part of the the back, avoiding the lighter parts that Moss sewn in. He wrapped the merman with his makeshift bandages and laid him down on his fluffy sleeping bag near the idol, just wedged him in the nook of the wall and the statue’s pedestal.

”There . . . Now then .” Isa stared at the two hallways they passed through with bright yellow eyes and grinned maliciously. “Time to set up a trap, just in case.”

———————

By the time Moss woke up, he’d notice a familiar sheen of gentle indigo flames fluctuating above him. Isa’s dark figure is sitting next to him, glaring at the two hallways as the raven’s eyes on his staff glowed brightly. On his guard, it seems. On top of Moss’s body is the purple trench coat to keep his body from going into shock with the sudden blood loss.

Moss stifled a groan of pain. He slowly sat up, wincing, and clutched at his shoulder where once more there were purple bandages. He looked at Isa, then at the ruins around them, defeated and annoyed. "That was . . . a reaaaallly close shave. And I am so angry." He started to slowly fold Isa's coat, then stopped at the tears. He chuckled a little. "You know, we do have real bandages now. You don't have to keep tearing your beautiful coat, but thank you, Isa. That's the how many-eth time you saved my life since I met you." he placed his coat inside his bag of folding, then pulled it out, all clean and fresh, then handed it back to him, smiling.

Isa perked up, back straightened as he peeked over his shoulder. Relief danced across his indigo eye, watching Moss sit up on his own, smiling warm. He shuffled a bit so he could somewhat face Moss and still see the tunnels, reaching out with a gentle hand on his back to rub in comfort. It’s barely visible, but Moss would have spotted the net that‘s above one tunnel, tied with a rope that’s leading down to the ground, pegged, and holding a small metal bell besides the wall. On the other tunnel, there were several more roots than . . . before? Maybe? Who knows. There’s roots everywhere.

“Well . . . Lesson learned. Now we have an idea of how they work in groups.” He muttered quietly. Then he grunted, cheeks turning pink when Moss pointed out the bandages. Bottom lip jutted out. “I forgot . . . I’m not used to having bandages on me, so I tend to wrap wounds with my jackets instead.”

Then he snorted, slightly grinning as he leaned in. “I should be thanking ya. If ya hadn’t given me the armor or fought off the bites, I wouldn’t have been able to focus on getting us out. So thank ya, Moss~” Isa sweetly pecked his cheek and horn as he held his coat close to his chest.

”For now, rest. Ya want food? We should leave the place before night comes.” Isa searched in their bags and took out the leftover from breakfast, handing it over to Moss. “Here. For energy. I would boil the water too but I have a feeling the raptors will hear the pot whistling and I rather not see them at the moment.” He quietly growled at the end of his sentence, grinning impishly.

Wow, doing things with Isa was relaxing. Even in this dangerous labyrinth they were in and having just been mauled close to death an hour ago, Moss felt relaxed.

He smiled. "You're welcome, Isa." He took his hand and kissed it, expressing once more his gratitude. "Yeah, let's get out of here." He pressed his hand in both of his, before letting go and accepting the leftover syrian semonila and nut cake they had for breakfast. He ate hungrily.

"Is it okay if you lead the way out?" he added, as he slowly got up and slung his backpack around his shoulders, wincing.

His hand is tingling and warm in his glove after Moss kissed it-! Ahhhhhh!

Turning red, Isa smiled. Happy to hear that Moss agreed to leave. As the merman ate, the redhead continued to watch the tunnels. As if he was expecting something to happen while they relaxed. He stared at Moss when he mentioned about leading the way out, nodding before reaching out as he stood up. Gently taking his backpack off his back and shoulders. Then he gingerly held Moss’ hand as he searched for the map.

“I’ll hold onto this. Come on, we need to dodge the traps I’ve set up.” Isa said, once again surrounding the pair in blue flames, leaving behind ashes. He used his ability as many times as he needed as he checked on the map and x marks on the walls until they reached the entrance way. Tugging on the ropes before offering Moss if he rather not climb up.

”I don’t blame ya. Your shoulders are still raw.” Isa muttered, looking at the purple bandages with a worried stare. “Actually, let’s not climb this time.” With that, they reached up and out of the ruins safely. The redhead fussing over the merman as they traveled back to the camp.

"Whoa, I had no idea you can do that woosh-woosh in quick succession, Isa! I thought you could only do that maybe three times a day with rests in between. That's handy." said Moss, impressed, when the demon hunter brought them back to the bottom of their rope entrance in less than a minute.

"Yeah, let's not climb." he held his hand again, and reappeared in a burst of flames above the ruins where the waterfalls that perpetually drenched the Ciros Labyrinth fell noisily down. They made their way back to camp, Moss reassuring Isa with words and gentle touches that he'll be alright.

* * * *

That night, Vera and her hunters were regaled as Moss retold their hunt over a dinner of badger bouillabaisse and deep fried rattlesnake. They were not surprised that they got only three pairs of raptor claws, what astonished them was that the two survived an ambush by one of the three hunting packs.

"Good thing the alpha female wasn't there." said Vera. "Good on you to kill two on your way out." She looked at Isa. "I heard stories of folk like you from the south. A different kind of demon hunter that can disappear and appear out of nowhere, wherever you go there's fire and the smell of hell mist, and you pray for the demons unlike the others who hate them . . ." She smiled, "Didn't think I'd be so lucky to meet another one of you. Are you here for research too, other than the bounty of course?"

Reassured by Moss’ gentle touches and words, Isa felt his adrenaline rush going down. Leaving him to crash by the time they reached the hunters’ campsite. His head bobbed, drowsy as he sat next Moss and slightly leaned on his side. Just barely putting his weight on him as he listened to the merman’s retelling. He placed a plate in front of him and started eating his meal, chopping on the deep fried rattlesnake in a meditative state. Blearily staring at the fire with dazed eyes.

Then Isa sat up straight when Vera looked at him, nodding politely. ”I’m surprised you heard about our Sect. We tend to be quiet about demon hunting most of the time, not minding if others watched from a distance.” He grinned impishly. “Who did you meet before?”

“Yes, I am interested in the ruins’ history, but I’m mostly worried about the raptor attacks.” Isa looked at the merman, a worried gleam within his tired eyes. “After seeing Moss’ wounds, I wanted to help out. He can take hits like no one’s business, but even the strongest steel can bend and break over time. Tell me, do any of ya have ideas as to why the raptors came into the ruins? It’s quite strange that they choose to live in closed spaces like underground ruins.”

Moss had an arm casually around Isa, letting him rest fully on his good shoulder if he wanted to. He soothingly rubbed the side of his head now and then and glanced down at him, wondering to himself if they should sleep early for the night. "Isa, tell me if you want to go to bed, okay?" he whispered during a lull in the conversation. There was no extra room for them, but they were allowed to lay out their sleeping bags in the common room where they were currently eating around one cooking pit table.

A few of the guy hunters looked uncomfortable seeing a gay couple, but Moss seemed to either not notice nor care. One of the girls, though, who had perked up the first time she saw Isa this morning with his natural rakish charm, had looked surprised when she saw Moss rub Isa's head the way friends don't normally do, and then started looking at them like she was trying to hide her fan-girling.

Vera on the other hand was just her usual hospitable self. "Word spreads about the brave few who dare venture into The Badlands to watch over those who cannot fend for themselves. I heard stories about you from merchants who heard it from people your order has saved. And that magic to poof in and out, I don't know what you call it, but it is rare and garners much attention."

She took a bite from her rattlesnake. "His name was Lorenzo, he and his companion Saanvi have been coming and going from our camp until they moved on in their travels a few days ago. They said they were archeologists, but I don't think so, at least not Saanvi. Archeologists you see, usually come to us with James Pendragon who shows them the safer side of the Ciros Labyrinth way up north. They don't go to the dangerous part where you two almost died. Not that I look down on tomb raiders looking for old relics to sell or anything, everyone's got to make a living. I'm sure Lorenzo didn't find any demons to slay, our Lady Ironheart keeps the land safe from the things that cross over from The Badlands."

"Anyway, it's none of my business. I simply realized he was one of you when I saw him walk out of thin air on top of the falls surrounded in green fire. I thought, oh the stories are true about those warlocks from the south."

When Isa looked at Moss, Vera nodded in understanding. "Aye, it's good that there's two of you. If one of you falls the other can pick him up." she smiled. "We think the raptors came because there wasn't enough food for them in the marshes east of here. Raptors usually roam in families of eight to twelve, but the one we have a problem with is more than forty strong."

“Okay~ maybe after dinner.” Isa nodded, quietly muttering random words of glee when Moss rubbed the side of his head. Fluttering his eyelids halfway as he casually leaned in more. He can sleep like this forever~

As he listened to Vera’s words, he stared at her with narrowed eyes. That warm feeling from Moss’ head rubs is the only reason why he is staying calm at the moment. ”Lorenzo is not one of us.” Isa piped up, taking a deep breath. Looks like there’s more reasons for him to see why his uncle is looking in here. Another portal perhaps? Or was he looking for an item he needs?

“He is a dangerous criminal that kills those close to him and mines their souls. He has already killed someone from my Sect and some of us are looking for him in hopes to catch him, alive or dead. I suggest talking with James about having a wanted poster up here and inform the Templars or to Miss Ironheart should anyone have information about his whereabouts.“

Then he listened in about the raptors and what the hunters believed might happened. Raising a brow. “That’s a lot of raptors. How many did others hunt? I know Moss got six plus five today, so eleven.” He wanted to count how many might be left over. Maybe it’ll ease the hunters that live here.

The hunters were surprised. "But he talked to us like a normal person, very eloquent." said one of the guys; "Well, that's no sign someone's good," said another, " just because they don't act like your usual bandit."

"We'll send word to Lady Ironheart." said Vera nodding. "I wonder how much bounty he's going to have on his head?" the other hunters started muttering their interest in hunting him down.

"We k-killed about twenty for the past month." said the girl who's been looking like she's been containing her giddiness at seeing Moss and Isa be all lovey dovey shyly. "But we saw nine, and then twelve, and then eight raptors forming three hunting packs leave the labyrinth this morning. Y-you said you killed two of them, and then three more who were just in the ruins. We don't know how many there are deeper in the labyrinth, so hopefully less than forty now not counting the hatchlings."

"It could be more." said Vera. "We don't have an exact number, but if they need to send three hunting packs out to feed the whole lot, then maybe around sixty." she shrugged. "It's impossible to tell without going in and counting."

"If this gets worse, maybe we should just blow up the ruins." said another girl, worriedly.

The other hunters looked like the didn't like the idea, but may have no choice. They loved the ruins, but people's safety came first.

“May this be enough, Loki.” Isa whispered under his breath as he watched the hunters become interested in his uncle’s bounty. This is a first for him, telling others about his uncle’s actions. He didn’t do it before since he was always alone. Sure, he made a few connections here or there in his travels but . . . That vision Loki showed of him over a dead Moss disturbed the redhead’s sense of preservation. Deeply. Ever since then, he started to question his own methods of finding his uncle. Why not involve others, others who are like the hunters? Professionals at hunting criminals or let an entire village of trade know of how dangerous his uncle is? Was he that blind to an obvious option?

No, he wanted to tear his uncle into pieces himself. Have that satisfying twist of the bone cracking in his own hands . . .that is, as long it didn’t hurt others in the process. He justified his want to kill his uncle by giving excuses. Not involve himself with others closely, don’t let others know of his uncle so he can have revenge for putting his mother and him through this pain of betrayal. That is, until he met Moss. His world brightened up ever since he received a wonderful bowl of delicious soup from the merman beside him and that vision is a wake-up call to his own actions. The anger that‘s slowly building up with his silent impatience. Truly, the spirits in the Southern lights are wise and nosy. Yes, nosy and he couldn’t be happier that they are.

Nuzzling his cheek on Moss’ shoulder, Isa looked horrified at the option of blowing up the ruins. ”May that never come to happen then.“ He told the hunters sincerely, giving them a warm smile for the first time.

“Thank ya for the hospitality and food. It’s nice ~” He said gratefully, taking another bite of badger meat.
