Graded [Frontier] - Amidst the Memories They Once Had - Escape from the Madman

Invasion

~'Nox'~

1704136818564.pngWith a fierce resolve, Nox responded to the looming threat. As the monstrous construct lunged towards her with deadly intent, she shifted her weight, bringing her moonlit katana to it's sheath in a swift and calculated motion.

In that crucial moment, as her blade was redrawn, a peculiar and muffled voice echoed through the tunnel. "Eins..." The unexpected call, strange and out of place, reached Nox's ears. The name hung in the air like an ominous refrain, a connection to the very heart of the abomination before her.

The revelation sparked a surge of energy within Nox. Her eyes, already ablaze with the intensity of battle, glowed an even brighter red as the luminosity of her blade intensified in response to the holy energy being channeled. With determination, she designated her target- Eins. The following slash, empowered by the resonance of the name, became a beacon of focused destruction that shone brightly within the dark abyss that was the labyrinth.

The moonlit blade cleaved through the air, guided by Nox's unwavering intent. The strike, aimed at the delicate wiring between Eins' fingers, sought to not only disable the creature's lethal appendages but cut through it's very arm and slice the creature in two. Nox, fueled by a primal rage and purpose, channeled the essence of her moonlit nature into the precise and powerful attack, a declaration that in this labyrinth of madness, she would be a force to be reckoned with. Her most powerful technique unleashed as a counter to the mad scientist's own.

The work continues, truely, he wished he had a bigger threat to deal with, but what was he to do if the foe didn't contend with his might. He simply had to clear the way, so best he be content with his lot. "Move, our exit wont stay open for long should the horde continue to rise up." he spoke up to the others, before eyeing the darkness around him. Just how many of these abominations were made...? Just how many were killed to make things that were...

Unbelievably subpar.

Disgusting.

Any of his fellow students back when he was in training would have swept the floor with these things.

Tsk, at least he was being paid.

Standing in their exit, he prepared to strike whatever horror came from the black pits.

"...Hmph... and SHE is getting the fun job..."

Eeriel

Finally, she going to get out of this hell hole! At least that's what Eeriel thought as she followed the other through the labyrinth. The fact that there's two capable fighters with them really made the trip a convenient one and the cat mentally put 'acquire strong henchmen' as one of her long-term goal.

As they got near the exit another mehanical monster appeared. This one was not only looks more sophisticated and larger than the ones they fight before, but also seemed to be intelligent. Thankfully this monster was attacking Nox instead of her or the other more vulnerable members. Eeriel didn't stop running towards the exit and yelled at the others.

"Don't stop, RUN!" She would let the two fighters handle the fight, survival was her main concern for now and she thought anyone who didn't intent to face the monster should do it too, so they wouldn't force the fighters to protect them while fighting.

Lauren was shaking like a leaf as Kyra helped her up, and even as they continued to move. But then- of course she was. It seemed like each new thing that the poor girl remembered was just another trauma to relive, all on top of the horrors that they had found themselves in. It must have only been pure stress that kept her going; if they stopped long enough to think, the group might not have been able to get up and keep going again.

By all rights, they should have been close to an easy escape, with these newfound rescuers. They should have been able to slip back out- the scientist, if he could be called that instead of sadist, should have been safely behind them, stuck in his own maze. In her arms, Lauren froze, and Kyra squeezed her, offering support emotionally and physically, as they watched the battle continue behind them. One of their rescuers, Ko, spoke and grabbed Kyra's attention; she turned to Lauren. "Come on, we're almost there," she murmured. As far as she was concerned, it was clear that neither one of them was equipped to deal with any of the threats that loomed around them; the best that they could do was leave and get far, far away from the monster at their backs.

Labyrinth of Pasts
The large mechanical attacker and apparent perpetrator of all the party's suffering had lunged toward Nox like a bullet out of a gun. Nox's valiant effort mixed with the support from Lauren would meet in a metal clash that sounded like a blender of glass and with the force that would send Lauren and any other dawdlers flying Ko's way. In the chaos of the the abrupt release of energy, another unseen explosion could be heard and felt as the labyrinth felt like it was rocked as a whole. Dust and debris started to fill the tunnels and some of the walls and ceiling began to cave in. A chain reaction of destruction came down all around the party. Walnut would do all he could to cover lady Suwa as the end seemed to come for them all. Every shudder and crash of immense weight made it clear to all present it would only take one misstep for it to be their last. They had survived everything else but would ultimately be crushed by their prison as it toppled.

Eventually, the rumbling stopped and the clouds of dirt and dust parted enough to allow a beam of sunlight through. The party would slowly rouse themselves to find they had miraculously survived a large collapse of the ruin. Although much of the facility still stood, the afternoon sun was shining down on their dust covered faces. The air was cold despite the sun, but the sun would feel more comforting than anything some may have felt in a long time. They were out. Enough of the walls had collapsed that they could see the surrounding wilderness ahead of them. What's more, they couldn't see or hear any monstrous cyborgs. Their chance that they had been hoping for had finally come. Escape was in their grasp, but they would have to quickly seize it.

Walnut stood and after a snort of the nostrils he inhaled deeply of the fresh hair and smiled big with a laugh. His ears twitched merrily.

"Lady Suwa, let's rid ourselves of this place,"

Walnut would take her by the hand and do his best to start navigating her through the field of fallen brick and twisted metal toward the woods. The smell of pine and moist soil washed away the foul scent of mutilated flesh and torn bodies. The air tasted fresh and demanded the party breath heartily. Aside from the occasional shift of stone, silence seemed to meet the ears of the party no matter how many moments passed. Where were the birds at the very least? A minor detail for another time.

After the building had exploded Solaris began trying to get back on her feet. Coughing some as she did so from inhaling possible ash and debris. She looked around for the others, she handed her paws to Lauren to offer to help the fae girl up. Her mind wondered off to Eeriel and Kyra. 'Did they make it out? Why'd they have to run out like that!' She then called out to the rest of the group. But only after looking around to make sure there wasn't any of those monstroties.

"Lauren let me help you, Midnight! Kyra! Suwa! Walnut are you guys alright!? Can you hear me?!"

    She then added.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Upon watching Nox and Eins violently clash she winced as she was flung away by the ensuing shockwave, though she was quick to get back onto her feet as the entire building around them rattled with the threat of collapse. At least for now they were safe from experimentation while the mastermind was being buried in rubble, though she had her doubts that he would die so quickly. She was flung far enough from the fight to be outside of the debris formed by the collapsing of the ruins, though she still had to cover her nose and mouth as to avoid breathing in the dust - squinting her eyes while she slowly backed away from the collapsing ruins before her. When the dust finally began to settle she saw the light of the sun illuminating the dark corridors of the labyrinth, hearing Solaris calling her name while reaching her hand down to pull her up and out. As a leftover tear from earlier rolled down her cheek she wiped it away, giving a slight smile as she reached out for Solaris' hand and taking hold.

"I think I'm fine, though we should probably put some distance between us and the ruins... I don't know whether or not he survived, but I have my doubts that we've seen the last of him." Lauren speculated with a worried tone, looking at the forest around them before looking up at the ruins. She didn't recognize the structure they emerged from at all, as what was left of the buildings exterior was too futuristic. Alongside that were the differences in the topography around them, though they were likely still close to the original entrance to the ruins. Though regardless of where they were she was still prone to the cold weather of the north, and it didn't help that she still only had a shirt and some shorts that were both too worn to provide any semblance of warmth. "I'll check to see if I can find some decent wood for a campfire, I could use the warmth right now... Besides, now that we're safe for the moment, I can lay to rest the burden of these memories and give answers to some of the questions we all had earlier." Lauren spoke before cautiously making her way over the debris onto the forest floor, her feet unable to feel the spring snow that made the forest feel so bright. These metal limbs robbed her of that feeling... Perhaps 'robbed' was too strong of a word for her to use, though it was genuinely upsetting that she couldn't feel the ground she was standing on. She wandered around close by to the ruins gathering sticks and fallen branches, gradually breaking down the larger branches down until they became too thick to break with sheer force alone. As she wandered back towards the ruins she found a spot flat enough to build a campfire, setting up some of the firewood she had gathered to be burnt while the rest was placed off to the side for now. As the metal of her limbs sapped away her body heat she felt her body starting to shiver from the cold, though now with everything set she patiently waited for Solaris to light the wood aflame and for the others to gather around.

"FREEEEDOOM!!!" After recovering from the building's collapse, Eeriel couldn't help but feels immense joy at the sight of the ruins and the woods around them. No more rotting rusting cyborg zombie nonsense! The cat rolled on the ground and basked on the warm sunlight, letting out subtle purring from her mouth. Her rest was interrupted when Solaris called out to her still using her fake name, Midnight.

"It's Eeriel. We all survived this so at least I can tell you my name."

As the survivors finally regrouped with each other Lauren started making campfire and offered to explain the situation better. Eeriel was quite interested at the topic so she sat next to the campfire and listened.

"Go on, Lauren. Tell us all you know. Next time I meet this scientist guy, I'm going to HUMILIATE him just like what he did to me today. Every little bit of clue will help."

Suwa1704689310153.pngThe breeze swaying the trees, a rustling of pines, and a waft of fresh spring, they'd reached the outside, and not a moment too soon. It all felt a bit to unreal and eerie to Suwa for a reason she could not grasp, but she ended up chalking the feeling up to escaping the clutches of a madman. Upon hearing Walnut, she grasped Walnut's hand and nodded to him in silence. They'd finally get to have a bit of rest now that the debacle was over.

As the group began settling down in a nearby area, Suwa asked Walnut to help with the fire, but only if he's comfortable doing so. Considering they were fresh off of a traumatic experience, Suwa understood if he wanted to stay next to her.

Suwa then pulled out her biwa before announcing, "I'll be playing some music to calm the nerves." After then, she began strumming the biwa, playing a somber but calming tune. As she continued to play, she responded to Lauren ( II-CinderRadcliff-II II-CinderRadcliff-II ) by saying, "I am curious to hear the rest of your stories, Luaren. Afterwards, we could all perhaps share each others stories?"

Suwa requests Walnut to help with the stipulation that he's comfortable with it.

As the duel clashed on, Kyra was thrown back with Lauren, and a wave of hopelessness crashed over her as the very building seemed ready to come down. She had managed to stay beside Lauren as they had been pushed back, and hugged the girl's arm tightly as rocks fell about them- and was surprised to be aware of it stopping. She opened her eyes, her head throbbing and her stomach queasy yet again, released Lauren, and sat up cautiously and curiously. Somehow they had managed to survive, and sunlight was peeking through the ceiling, as though to promise them that these evils would never last.

Kyra followed the others out, happy to see greenery again. She smiled as the scent of wet soil and pine needles in crisp, cold air hit her; a welcome change from the mustiness, copper, iron, and decay that had surrounded them for the previous hours. Outside was silent and still; a purgatory to walk through as they left their hell behind, in order to meet their heaven? She had never been religious in her previous life, and wasn't now- maybe that wasn't quite how the geography of the afterlife worked out. Then and there, she didn't particularly care.

Solaris had been kind enough to heal them; the bruises and scrapes that Kyra had accumulated during the destruction were soothed, though she still felt heavy. Magic couldn't cure emotional injuries, after all, and their day had been a hard and harrowing one. Maybe it was time to go back to Ryke and see the men who had taken her in; they were, at least in this world, her home, and maybe they could ease her heart.

"I'll help you," Kyra said, quietly, as Lauren announced her intention of a fire. Something warm sounded excellent right about now- a nice, big fire, to burn away the terrors, and to keep any darkness at bay. Even if the sun was shining, clouds could always pass, and trees cast shadows; and those weren't things that Kyra wanted to experience right then. Collecting firewood made her feel capable, as well- something that she wanted to feel after feeling so useless in the lab.

It wasn't long before they had returned with an excellent stock of wood, and to the gentle sound of Suwa playing an instrument that Kyra didn't recognize. The sound was soothing to her ears. "You're a talented musician, Suwa," she complimented, as she took her seat on the ground- cold and firm, but soft from the pine needles, as well. Lauren build the wood into a sturdy campfire, and Kyra felt just a bit better.

Walnut stood in the shadow of the collapsed ruin, his eyes scanning the rubble with a simmering intensity. The party, having narrowly escaped with their lives, seemed almost oblivious to the looming danger that still haunted the ruins' twisted metal and stone. They gathered around a budding campfire, chatting and sharing a sense of relief, but Walnut's mind was elsewhere. He watched as Solaris's magic flared briefly to aid one of their number, a fleeting moment of healing that seemed all too insufficient for the peril they had faced.

His mistress, Lady Suwa, sat among the others, her elegant fingers strumming a biwa, the music a melancholy contrast to the tension that knotted in Walnut's gut. The others, too, were caught in this brief respite, but Walnut's instincts screamed at him that this was no time for respite. They needed to leave, to find safety in a nearby settlement, not linger in the ominous shadow of their near demise.

As the fire crackled and danced—no, not danced; fire did not dance, it consumed and destroyed, just as the ruin behind them had sought to do—Walnut's frustration boiled over. He moved swiftly, his paws crunching through the partially melted snow and mud, and with a swift, irate motion, he kicked at the fire, scattering embers and partially dousing the flames. The fire hissed in protest, smoke billowing up in a gray plume.

Walnut reached for his mistress abruptly, his hand closing around her strong arm with a firmness that belied his usually respectful demeanor. He tried to pull her to her feet, his voice low but urgent.

"We must go, my lady. This is no place for rest or music. Danger still lurks in these ruins, and every moment we tarry here increases our peril," he said, his words measured but insistent. He glanced at the others, hoping his actions would convey the gravity of their situation.

But before they could heed his warning, a chilling sound pierced the air. From the shifting rubble of the ruin, a grotesque form emerged, staggering with an unnatural gait. Its cry, a haunting, mechanical wail, echoed off the stone and metal, a siren call to others hidden in the debris. Soon, more of these biomechanical monstrosities began to appear, their cries melding into a chorus of otherworldly agony.

Walnut's grip on his mistress tightened, his eyes darting between the approaching creatures and the forest's edge. They needed to move, now, before the ruin's remaining horrors enveloped them in their deadly piercers. If the party remained, the risked being overran. If they fled into the forest, they would risk getting lost or separated. The nearest settlement was not immediately apparent. The party would need to quickly to decide what to do and execute.

Suwa1704918670448.pngWhen Walnut kicked at the fire, Suwa heard and immediately understood something was amiss. Suwa discovered herself to be clueless of dangers, and as such, learned not to make the mistake of ignoring Walnut's warnings.
Her music halted abruptly with a discordant twang, shattering the cozy atmosphere. Then, with deft, practiced movements, she immediately wrapped her Biwa, just in time for Walnut to grab her arm.

"I'm ready, Walnut," Suwa commanded, slinging the biwa onto her back before standing up and announcing, "Everyone! There's something-" Cut mid sentence, the ruins exploded, with the threatening whirs and clanks of contraptions. Suwa grasped Walnut's hand tightly.

"Walnut, follow Lauren, she's escaped before," Suwa commanded succinctly. From there, Suwa placed her trust in her companion and her acquaintances.

Suwa entrusts her safety with Walnut and asks him to follow Lauren.

Fire, where did it even come from? Well, no one had time to linger on that, they had to get away and do so quickly. Unfortunately, she wasn't quick. Though she'd try to gain them an extra few minutes, if even for a moment, it was their best chance of proper escape. She put her right paw out and left under her catalyst. Her paw aimed towards a tree, murmuring an incantation. She tried her best to shoot the flame at the tree. If they were lucky, the tree would fall in front of at least the a good portion of the experiment and block their path. With that, the half beast turned on her heel and took off. TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Lauren sat by the flames of the campfire and warmed back up, feeling the cold within her limbs slowly fading away... It almost reminded her of a camping trip she went on in her previous world. The music that Suwa played helped ease the worries she still had left, thinking about everything they had gone through over again. Despite her best efforts to relax, she couldn't help but feel on edge. It was upon the realization that she overlooked one minute detail that she looked back to the ruins with concern, glancing down to Walnut as they already seemed to be clued in on the danger that still lurked in the ruins. The giant monstrosity emerging from the ruins confirmed that her worries were justified.
"Well, at least we know that he is actually dead... Assuming he didn't make clones of himself." Lauren half-heartedly theorized, though she knew that what was to come wouldn't be a pretty sight to behold. She was quick to run perpendicular to where the monsters were flooding out from, circling around to a hill overlooking the ruins before straightening out towards a specific direction - finding a massive glass dome alongside the unmistakable slanting of a roof roughly halfway down the massive hills gentle slopes. Perhaps it was intuition that drove her to run this way, or from knowing how the monstrosity that Eins became would try scaring her away from the unmistakable landmark before her. Whatever drove her to run in this direction, she now had a very clear idea of where she should go from here. After all, this was the place her host had met Eins for the first time: The Broken Molds Library.

"This way! I know where to go from here, and after we reach town we should hightail it as far away as possible!" Lauren shouted back before running to her left, looking back towards the hill they came from. It would only be a matter of time before those monsters would reach the town they were heading to, though at least their group was slightly faster than the bumbling monsters of the now deceased madman. Her eyes looked up while running to see smoke rising off in the distance, indicating that they were approaching their destination. Taking the chance for a short break, Lauren paused before looking towards the group. "We're getting close to the village now, which means we need to find a wagon and start heading for Ryke. Seeing as we're deep within the East Empires northern borders it'll be a lengthy trip, though I'd rather get as far away as possible considering what his goal was before being crushed to death." Lauren briefed the others of the plan rather quickly, eager to stay ahead of their pursuers before they could catch up to them. With their new plan now laid out Lauren turned back towards the town before she continued running towards civilization, her eyes glancing down to the loose thin fabric making up her ragged dress as her thoughts weighed heavy on her mind. She wasn't proud of what she'd have to do, but she'd have to do it in order to avoid the threat of frostbite and the bigotry of the East Empire.

As the group tried to settle near the campfire, Eeriel used the little time she had to lick her paws clean. The grimy sensation from the facility's floor was slowly fading away. Meanwhile Lauren looks like she was in a contemplative state before another swarms of robotic creatures emerged from the ruins, in which she commented that the scientist was already dead.

"Wait, what? How can I exact my revenge if he's already dead? Damn it!!" Eeriel said, more frustrated at the fact that she wouldn't be able to harm the scientist than being concerned that they're being chased, again. Though once everybody started running away she would follow suit.

Unlike their time in the maze, Eeriel was more confident outside. She knew she could outrun the robots without running into another of those abominations or triggering some unknown traps so she decided to be a bit more helpful. As she settled into her spot on the cool ground, Kyra saw Walnut grab Suwa- and a moment later an alarm blared, tearing their brief rest asunder. But I just sat down, a small, inner part of her whined- couldn't the monstrosities wait a few minutes? It didn't matter; she was already up, her legs groaning at her to not. Suwa prepared to follow Lauren, and Solaris shot a blast of fire at a tree- a smart move.

Lauren shot off, and Kyra followed along with the rest of their ragtag group. She seemed to have a plan, and it certainly sounded better than simply running away, as Kyra's instincts would have had her do. And sure enough, they saw evidence of a town soon; something that she never would have found so quickly without Lauren's guidance. Journeying back to Ryke sounded appealing, but something about Lauren's words left a bitter taste in Kyra's mouth.

"I don't suppose those things have an off button?" she mused as they ran. "Or like... A server that we could issue new instructions from?" It seemed unlikely. There might have been plenty that she still didn't know about Lauren and her relationship with their captor, but she knew enough to infer that it was unlikely that he would have programmed his machines in such a manner. After all, if he was unhappy with them, he could always let them loose in that maze of his with his other victims... But it was nice to dream, at least for a moment, that they could somehow stop the rampage from expanding out past its own tainted ground.

Walnut, his canine features sharpened by a sense of primal urgency, stood at a crossroads of decision. The cold air gnawed at his resolve, the evergreens around them a labyrinth of their own, insidious and unyielding. His mistress, Suwa, clutched at his hand, her music a distant memory swallowed by the foreboding woods. He had heard Lauren's plan, a direction towards what she believed was safety. But the words did not resonate with the trust Walnut sought; they were just words, hollow against the backdrop of their harrowing escape and everything they been through thus far since waking up.

In this moment of chaos, Walnut's instincts screamed louder than reason. His beastman senses, keener than any human's, caught a scent on the wind, of a different path, one that veered away from Lauren's misguided lead. With a decisive tug, he steered Suwa away, following the scent that promised a sliver of hope. His choice was not born of understanding, but of survival, a trust in the primal part of him that would put more trust in his senses than on a strangers claims. He would not tell his master. Best if the larger group drew the attention of the monsters away from them and where they were heading anyway...

Lauren, her steps less precise than she thought, led the party not to the sanctuary of knowledge she had promised but deeper into a maze of trees and muddy earth, a terrain that sapped their strength with every step. The cold air seemed to conspire against them, an invisible enemy that leached warmth and hope with equal fervor.

Solaris, had lingered a moment too long, her magic casting a brief light in the dim woods that did little against the hoard now free to spill out of the labyrinth. But that moment cost her dearly. She found herself alone, the silhouettes of her companions swallowed by the forest's embrace. She would 'feel' the monsters at her back as they stomped and staggered after her, the biomechanical monsters a relentless shadow at her back.

As Walnut and Suwa hastened through the trees, guided by Walnut's senses and instincts for danger, they found themselves evading the clutches of their monstrous pursuers. The creatures, with their inhuman cries and mechanical clatter, fell behind, presumably following the other party or choosing not to follow them for some reason.

Meanwhile, the rest of the party, led by Lauren, with the exception of Solaris, trudged on, their energy would be noticeably waning, the cold biting deeper with each passing moment on those that could feel the chill and were not properly dressed for it. They were lost, the library as good as a mirage at that point in their wanderings. Time was not on their side, the threat of separation a specter that loomed over the party, as tangible as the cold that numbed their limbs, for any wrong turn could accidentally separate what remained of the party.

Eeriel
Location: Woods

Ohh, damn. Mud!!

As the terrain change into something wetter, Eeriel started to get irritated with how things goes. She didn't like getting her paws dirty like this and Lauren didn't seems to be leading them anywhere despite her initial confidence.

"Oy. Do you even know where we're heading!?" Eeriel expressed her discontent and gave lauren's knees several slaps. The slaps of course wouldn't really harm the automaton but it would smear some mud on them. She also noticed that the fire dog caster wasn't around, did she got trapped by her own fire? Again?

Eeriel was started to run out not only stamina, but also patience. She had always been bad at being animal so she tends to put things like cooperation and strategy first than relying on her senses and instinct like any other sentient cat out there. Alas, it seemed like these people were more unreliable than she thought. This time she needs to rely on her instinct more.

Eeriel focused her mind towards her surrounding. Taking notes of any stimulus that might help her getting out of this situation. The sounds of the approaching machines should at least gave her an idea of where to go, which was opposite of their approaching direction of course, but if it means delving deeper into the mud then she would rather go the other way. Then there's Walnut, the dog. He seemed to be quite reliable so far at detecting danger so if she could detect his trace then she would probably find a way out of here.

"Follow me, if you want to get out of this place." Eeriel said to the other as she continued running towards the direction she thought would have the best chance of getting out of here. As much as she thought that the others had become burdens, there's still one use that they can provide so she's keeping them for now. Well, she would still go to what she thought was the right direction regardless if they follow her or not.

  • freedom?

Solaris made a mistake, she knew she had made a mistake. And she knew it would be next to impossible to hunt down the others when she didn't know how to navigate towards the woods, and quite frankly her own survival hung in the balance. She ran as fast as she could. A part of her hoped others were finding their way, but her main priority was her own survival. The noises of the biochemical monsters behind her could be heard. As she ran, she did so in a zigzag like pattern...she was out of options, and it was the best she could do. Would it help her? Likely not. But Solaris could only hope it somehow confused the creations...those things whose very existence goes against the laws of life. There was so little she could do, and she felt like she was basically banking on those things being absolute idiots. Maybe if she's lucky and doesn't die at the biomechanical monsters hands that she'd find some sort of form of civilization.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

As Lauren quickly found out her memories couldn't be entirely relied upon, as there was one thing she hadn't accounted for: Her new race. She was still too accustomed to the timespan of a human that it didn't even register that her host had a different sense of time entirely, for Elves had much longer lifespans than humans. What she thought was around a year or two in a coma could very well have been ten, or perhaps fifty, or maybe even many hundreds of years - combined with the lack of stimuli other than sound and the occasional touch leaving no true way for her to tell how long her host had been comatose for. With a brief pause she looked down to Eeriel as they batted at her leg in anger, the multitude of emotions she now had to deal with leaving her confused. Though it was only for a moment. As Eeriel darted off Lauren was quick to follow their lead, only now noticing that Solaris wasn't with them. She wasn't sure where they separated from the group... Perhaps when they had tried deterring the monstrosities with fire when they began pouring out of the ruins? Guilt began to tug at her heartstrings to try and find Solaris, and she looked towards the monsters pursuing them... Her desperation to escape with her life won over any desire to try and find them, tears rolling down her face as her imagination briefly showed her what she could expect to see if she had gone to play hero. She was quick to wipe away her tears to avoid losing track of Eeriel, briefly looking behind her to grab Kyra's hand to avoid losing anyone else in the chaos.
"Sorry Eeriel, but my sense of time has seen better days..." Lauren admitted while keeping pace with the feline. "I assumed I awoke from being comatose after only a year, maybe two, but I'm starting to think it's been significantly longer than that... I don't remember how long Elves can live for though." She could feel the cold was still slowly gnawing away at her skin, with the muddy ground seeming to not be slowing her down too much - primarily due to her legs inability to become sore from overexertion. While exerting herself less overall was still great, it didn't stop the cold from sapping away her body heat where her metal limbs met the stumps. Her limbs grew colder by the minute, hoping to find safety soon by following Eeriel.

Suwa 1705780026534.pngSuwa ran with haste but deliberation. All her focus was on Walnut and his instructions as they moved over the uncertain terrain. There were a few times where she faltered over a root or rock, but thankfully, Walnut was there to assist her. Unfortunately, because her attention was all on Walnut, it took a long while for Suwa to realize that the rest of their companions were currently not present with them. When she realized that, she stopped, concluding that they must've somehow gotten separated during the chaos.

"Walnut!" Suwa exclaimed, "We got separated from the rest of the group!" Though Suwa could feel that they were currently "safe", she felt restless. She made a promise to carry through with their companion's stories, and she wasn't about to break that promise. Without hesitation, she began unwrapping her Biwa, but before midway, she barked sharply, "Do NOT interrupt me, Walnut. I made a promise to follow their stories, and I will NOT abandon them until I've tried something first. You focus on the dangers, and I'll focus on gathering them." With that, Suwa completed unwrapping and began playing with furious abandon into her biwa and sung loudly in the singer's formant, praying that her song reached her companions before the mechanical abominations did.

Note: The singer's formant is a particular frequency singers that allows their voice to "pierce" through an orchestra

To gather the others, Suwa uses both her [Performance - F] skills in conjunction
Walnut should be using his [Sense Danger] ability to scope out the danger before

The euphoria of getting outside again was passing. No- now that there was yet another threat, it was fully gone. It was the adrenaline that was starting to go; apparently, Kyra had produced all that she was going to for the time being, and she was starting to feel the physical effects of it all. She was cold, and tired, and lost, and in desperate need of a shower and a hot meal. And instead, she was running through snow and trees and it didn't seem like they were getting anywhere, despite the signs of civilization they could see in the distance.

The cat took charge, and Kyra was too tired to ask about what the feline was planning. She simply pivoted, and felt cool metal around her hand- Lauren. She grabbed the hand tightly; if nothing else, she could at least hold on to one person. Whatever happened, neither one of them would be alone. Where was Solaris, or Suwa, or their rescuers from the labyrinth? Was it even worth investigating at this point? Judging by the sounds that followed them... Well, Kyra certainly wasn't strong enough to do anything about them. She hadn't been able to do anything against the horrors inside the ruins; why would it be any different out here?

Dulcet tones managed to break through the chaos. Kyra started, her head swinging towards the sound- and quickly back in front of her as she nearly tripped over a rock. It was likely that all that kept her upright was her hand being locked with Lauren's. "I think I hear something," she announced, "I think it might be Solaris, or Suwa- or maybe they're together!" The hope was apparent in her voice: maybe they would all still be able to group back up together, maybe they wouldn't be separated to meet their fates. She wouldn't dare hold any hope about what the fate might be- but at least none of them would be alone.

Wilderness

1704856920048-png.1137293

Walnut, his canine features etched with a blend of concern and determination, led Suwa through the treacherous underbrush of the forest. The terrain was uneven, fraught with hidden roots and rocks that threatened to unbalance them at every step. Yet, Walnut's senses, finely honed from his beastman heritage, guided them unerringly. His ears twitched at every rustle, his nose sorting through the myriad scents the forest offered, searching for the one that promised safety.

Meanwhile, Eeriel, found herself relying more on her feline senses than she had ever done. The muddied ground and dense foliage did nothing to dampen her spirits as she picked up the faint but unmistakable scent of cooking fires. She would push forward, navigating the labyrinthine woods . The smell grew stronger, a guiding beacon through the dense trees, hinting at the presence of a village hidden from sight.

Solaris, however, found herself in a dire predicament. Her zigzagging run, a desperate attempt to evade her pursuers, proved futile and exhausting. The biomechanical monsters, relentless in their pursuit, were closing in. One of them, a grotesque amalgamation of metal and flesh, swung a club-like appendage at her from behind, a silent but deadly threat looming over her survival. (F grade attack)

In the village, Walnut and Suwa emerged from the woods into a rustic settlement. The village was a collection of modest wooden houses, smoke curling from chimneys into the gray sky. The villagers, bundled in their simple but warm clothes, eyed the newcomers with a mix of curiosity and wariness. Suwa, her biwa in hand, began to play a tune, her music filling the air with a haunting melody. The villagers whispered among themselves, some remarking on the instrument being a beastman's tool, their voices tinged with a subtle disdain. Yet, the music wove its way through the village, touching even the skeptical hearts with its poignant beauty.

As Eeriel led the rest of the party towards the village, the distant sound of Suwa's biwa reached their ears, a melodic guide through the final stretch of their journey. The sight of the village, a haven amidst the wild, brought a sense of relief. The weary travelers stepped into the settlement, noting the mixed reactions of the villagers to their arrival and Suwa's playing. Despite the undercurrent of judgment, the music offered a moment of respite, a gentle welcome to a place they hoped would offer safety, however brief it might be.

  • Solaris's hope was dwindling and her mind in a frenzy. Exhaustion slowly began to take over the half-beast. But she had to keep moving the best she can no matter how much hope was lost and no matter what ended up happening to her, it was no surprise those monstrosities were still chasing after her...she pushed the thoughts of the others to the back of her mind. Maybe at least they got lucky. She, however, did not. Having kept on running, it seemed those zigzags were more of a waste of energy than anything every time she looked behind her, they were still there. When one of them swung a club, she came to a stand still, quickly moving her left paw under her catalyst and holding up her right paw, she said her incantation and attempted to send out a fireball the same size as her paw at the thing with [Blazed Shot [F] ]. She would attempt to start running away again but moving in any pattern just running.

Eeriel
Location: Village

Finally, civilization!

Eeriel let out a relieved sigh as they finally reached a safe place. Probably. There's always the chance of those robots chasing them into the village but at least if things went that way Eeriel was ready to use the villagers as meatshields. The cat nonchalantly scanned the village, disregarding the suspecting eyes from some of the villagers. She found it a bit strange that this kind of boring village was placed that close to the hidden high-tech labyrinth. Maybe the villagers were brainwashed and some of them would be sent into a facility to be turned into those abominations. hah, sounds like a cool premise for a video game, not that she care though.

"So, when you said the person who trapped us there was dead, did you actually mean it or that's just one of your faulty memory?" Eeriel approached Lauren and asked her the question. Whether it was because of passing time or bad software upgrade, Lauren's knowledge had been proven to be far less reliable than she expected. The cat likely would take Lauren's words with a grain of salt as she's now more curious about how the construct perceived her own words so far.
