OOC: I took some liberties with the opening narration. Rp will run on a weekly schedule, so post at least once in the week but feel free to post more and in any order so long as its not twice in a row. talking and communicate to each other your plans on posting. Nothing worse than a week going by and no posts appearing because everyone is waiting on someone else to post. If that happens, I'll close the thread. Current plan is to run the rp about 2 months. Rounds may go faster if everyone posts at a decent pace.

TLDR: Characters awaken in a chamber of body and foreign technology. They could buy themselves some time by tampering with the control panels that may shut and lock the door to the hallway of the approaching enemy. To the opposite side of the room was the locked door of their escape.

Chamber of Horrors

1699243650749.png

In the gloaming of an ancient chamber where science and sacrilege danced a macabre waltz, the characters' senses stumbled back to them—one by one, as if reluctant to reveal the full horror of their surroundings. The air was thick with the copper scent of ichor, punctuated by the sterile sting of ozone and antiseptic. With a dull thrumming in their head, they pieced together the world: stone and metal, shadows and whispers, the echo of their own breath—a rhythmic pant that bespoke panic yet constrained.

Around the party lay the remnants of bodies, or what once were bodies—now grotesque assemblies of flesh interwoven with gleaming construct sinew. The dim light flickered over surfaces too smooth to be natural, casting an otherworldly pallor on skin that had not felt the sun in ages. To their right, a myriad of surgical tools lay scattered on a tray, their purpose as sinister as their serrated edges.

Above, the domed ceiling loomed, lost to darkness, save for a weak orb that emitted a sickly light, too feeble to challenge the shadows that clung to the corners like cobwebs. The high shelves of what seemed an eternal library of knowledge bore down upon them, a mausoleum of thoughts and theories that had succumbed to the dementia of their keeper.

The rhythmic sound—a steady clink-clank, like chains through a pulley—grew steadily closer. The perpetrator of their captivity, the creator of the horrors that surrounded them, was not far, his approach as inevitable as time itself.

A series of consoles blinked and beeped along one wall, a chorus of silent alarms and unseen eyes, perhaps a means to halt their captor's progress—if only for a moment. On the opposite side, a door, its ancient wood incongruous with the high-tech lock that sealed it, offered the sweet promise of escape. The lock, an enigma of gears and glowing runes, beckoned to Lauren’s burgeoning sense of desperation.

They had to act, and act swiftly. To dally was to delve deeper into the dark designs of a mind unhinged. To interact with the environment was not only to engage in a battle of wits with the environment itself but also to race against the slipping sands of an hourglass they could not see but felt acutely in their quickening pulses.

With the dark genius of their pursuer, the very walls seemed to whisper secrets in a language lost to sanity. They must listen, decipher, and employ these secrets against the architect of their doom or crueler fates.

Their escape would not be merely physical but a fleeing into the unknown, into the spaces between breaths, between thoughts, where the possibility of freedom still glimmered faintly—as fragile and precious as the light of a dying star.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Within the mind of an unconscious Lauren she found herself within a monochrome museum, devoid of color and emotion as the walls and ceiling seemed to be slowly cracking as time passed. While she was reluctant at first to look around, her feet slowly carried her from the main lobby through one of the art galleries. Though something about this museum seemed off. The paintings on the walls were distorted and indiscernible - though they were not still pictures, for the moving distortions came alongside corrupted audio. A few individual parts of each painting could be identified through an educated guess, though these were completely unrecognizable to her. As her feet continued carrying her into a room full of statues she turned to attention to one of them. The stone was broken and/or eroded in various places, perhaps was even vandalized by someone. And any part of it that was still intact was distorted, much like all of the other statues within the room. Then a sense of fear befell her as her eyes spotted a single statue that wasn't distorted or worn, with insectoid legs and that inhuman face she had seen chasing after her before. Before her was a statue of the mad scientist that was pursuing her, and as she tried to calm down she could hear footsteps from behind her. Without looking to see who they were coming from she ran through another gallery, the paintings seeming less and less censored than the ones closest to the entrance. As she neared the end of the gallery hallway a set of hands came out of one of the paintings and pushed her over, sending her falling down a flight of stairs into a blinding white light.

Lauren suddenly awoke from her nightmare, gasping as if her life was in danger. Though as she quickly took in her surroundings, that feeling from her nightmare only intensified as she very nearly screamed - retaining enough composure to avoid repeating the same mistake as before. Slowly rising to her feet she looked around while trying to remember. She could only vaguely recall running into some adventurers within the same day she began running from the mad scientist. While anything beyond that was fuzzy for the time being, she spotted one of the adventurers she had ran into, stepping over the corpses of other victims as she slowly made her way over towards them. Her movements were a little jittery and uncoordinated as she was still adjusting to her new body... and mechanical limbs. Most of all though, she was fighting her bodies overwhelming urge to purge her stomachs contents right then and there. By the time she made it over to the adventurer she heard the footsteps approaching, her panic starting to set in as she tried quietly shaking the adventurers while whispering.
"Hey, wake up... Come on, we don't have a lot of time to get out of here..." Lauren whispered as quietly as she could, looking around for something they could use to buy them more time. She pinched her own cheeks to help herself to focus, glancing over the countless bodies and the tray of surgical tools to find two things immediately catching her eyes. The first being the gears and runes locking their one and only escape from this impromptu graveyard, which she could only guess that she had a 3% chance of correctly guessing the combination before it became too late. The other was the control panel overlooking various parts of the building they were in, which her instincts were telling her she could use to slow down their pursuer and gain some more breathing room.

Upon a closer inspection of the room itself, she felt a sense of nostalgia wash over her as one of the memories of her bodies previous owner became less hazy. While not everything about the memory came up all at once, she remembered that they used to frequently visit this building to read the various books. The feeling of recalling memories belonging to someone else as if she had lived it - alongside the smell of the various corpses and copper ichor, finally pushed her over the edge as she unwillingly emptied her stomachs contents onto one of the corpse next to them.

Solaris's mind had been foggy when she heard a familiar voice. Someone tried to wake her up, but what did most of the job was the sharp smell of decay and rotten meat that hit her nose. A very potent smell that didn't require a heightening or special sense of any kind. When the white-haired half-beast had opened her eyes, she slowly began to sit up. Solaris's mind felt groggy. She remembered she was traveling as she typically did, she researched a little even from what she could recall. Solaris glanced around the room, her pale blue eyes took in the area around her and she had finally noticed the corpses that had begun to had laid around her that seemed to have reached stages of decay which didn't take long. She looked at the source of the voice. She vaguely remembered the other abomination she had met earlier. Solaris stood up carefully. At first her feet were wobbly from her lack of movement. After taking the moment to regain her balance, she walked up behind Lauren, who was investigating ways to buy them more time before spilling her stomach onto a decaying corpse. Solaris had started to rub her paw on Laruen's back in an attempt to comfort her until she finished. Solaris looked at the panels. She wasn't a technology expert. She knew common sense enough that perhaps tampering with the panels would help them and she might have had just the thing to do it, depending on whether it was fireproof or not. She turned to Lauren. Her voice had treaded the line of monotone.

    "Back away if you will."

It wasn't that Solaris couldn't heal her should there be a worst-case scenario. Solaris put her left paw underneath her butterfly catalyst that had been a mix of red, orange and yellow in color and aimed her right paw at the panel. Solaris moved her paw around in an X shape, murmuring 'small shot blazed destruction'. Doing so summoned a fireball that was merely the size of her paw at the panel.

Lesson learned. Do not take odd-looking funky-smelling meat from a suspicious stranger. Unfortunately, the past her was too hungry to think straight and took the meat from that person. Before long, her gaze become hazy and she fell unconscious.

Where was this anyway? It's all dark and very cramped. The cat tried to wiggle her way out but the fabric that surrounds her refused to give away. Wait, fabric? She's in a damn bag! Realizing her situation, Eeriel tried to use her entire body and claws to tear a way out. The bag she was in swinging wildly as the cat struggled inside it. Before she could open a hole on the bag though, the thread that hung the bag snapped and the bag fell on the floor. The cat yelped as she wasn't ready for the fall yet.

"My faith in humanity has been broken." Eeriel grumbled while slipping out of the bag. Her expression immediately turned from being upset to being disgusted.

"Eww," She could feel dried blood and fats on the floor. The itcky feeling on her paws really made her uncomfortable but she holds her instinct to start licking it as a glance around the room told her the gross source of all this. Though she was a bit surprised that the pile of corpses didn't give her any weird feeling other than disgust. Shouldn't she be horrified or something? Or was living as a cat for years and eating rats had numbed her empathy for other people? Whatever the case she really should get out of here as soon as possible before all this grimes drives her crazy.

Speaking of other people, she wasn't alone in this room. There's a few more people in here with her and a quick sniff at their scent told her that they also didn't belong here, one of them was blasting the lines of panels with fireball. The cat looked at her in disbelief before saying something.

"Are you stupid or something? Just use your hand like a normal people for the panel. If you want to fireball something, do it to the door." If only she was a humanoid being she would probably try to tinker with these things but alas, she only had her paws so she must rely on these strangers to actually do the stuffs.

Suwa 1699331195422.png “Ah,” Suwa thought to herself, “what an interesting place to hold a reception.” When she was lost in the city after being just reincarnated, Suwa was invited by a kind stranger who offered them a place to stay. While Walnut furiously disagreed, Suwa told Walnut to calm down and that they could trust the man. Once they started following the stranger, Walnut was oddly silent throughout the trip, which bothered Suwa somewhat. After what seemed like a full hour of walking through streets, doors, and stairs, Suwa was eventually led to an oddly cold and stinky location and was politely told to wait, being told that “the master would be seeing her soon.”

“Hmm…” Suwa said to herself, “maybe I’ll just leave with Walnut. Seems like the master isn’t used to having guest over… I hope he won’t be too offended with me leaving.” Upon saying that, she heard what seemed like small explosions along with conversation. What Suwa couldn’t see was that in the same cell as her, some adventurers had awoken and begun to escape.

“Ah, hello?” Suwa called out. “Is someone out there? What’s going on?” Turning to her aide, she asked gently, “Walnut, could guide me to where the others are? I’d like to ask them what’s making that loud noise.” Right beside her was Walnut, who was already waiting for Suwa’s orders.

Suwa asks Walnut to guide her to the other people.

Clink. Clank.

Kyra moved like molasses into consciousness. Cool stones were beneath her, and acted as an almost pleasant contrast to dull aches in her limbs and stomach, and to the hot rush of her pounding head. Her mouth was dry- and had a stale taste to it, and the remnants of something bitter and disgusting. Her stomach was weak, and weaker still when the smell hit her: sweat, blood, decay, oil, other things that were musty and dirty and that she didn't want to think about. Her eyes were closed, and she kept them that way for a moment, her head swirling with all of these new and unpleasant situations. What had happened? Was she.... Hungover? Her memories from before whenever she had passed out were a hazy blur and figments of sensations. They would require more rumination, and she wasn't quite up for that, yet.

Clink. Clank.

With a grunt, Kyra sat up and opened her eyes. The scene was just as grim as it had smelled: bodies were discarded along the floor, though a few of them were up and talking. Grand shelves lined with old books loomed around them, and nearly everything had been gutted and refitted with technology- a grand wooden door veined with metal and wires, a sophisticated control panel secured to an ancient prison wall, a number of mutilated bodies with limbs of machinery. Kyra gave herself a worried once over, but she seemed to have been spared being put under the knife so far.

Clink. Clank.

Others had been affected by the stench of the chamber, it seemed, and the scent was making its way over to Kyra. She hesitated before standing, but it seemed that she'd be able to keep hers- though that begged the question of when she had last eaten. How long had it been since her being locked away? She tried to push the thought from the mind, since it would beget questions such as if anyone would know that she was missing, or if anyone would be coming to help them. There were two people by the control panel, a talking cat, and someone who seemed to be rather unaware as to the situation. Kyra turned to the latter, and spoke. "Do you... Do you know where we are?" She seemed to have her wits about her. Why wasn't she distressed about the bodies, or simply looking at the other people? With a sluggish blink, Kyra understood; the other woman was probably blind. She made her way towards the panel, and called over her shoulder. "We're over here. Be careful, there's... Things on the floor."

Clink. Clank.

The rhythmic sounds made Kyra uneasy. They sounded like they were getting closer, too- and it was unlikely to be a rescuer of theirs. She looked at the others; they seemed... Familiar. Maybe she had met them already? She wasn't sure. "Here, let me take a look at that panel..." If it wasn't destroyed by the beast girl's fireballs, that was. She may not have been a genius, but she trusted that she had enough experience around similar things in her previous life to be able to work something out. "I'm, um, Kyra, by the way." Introductions seemed a bit outlandish here, but knowing names could likely prove useful later- rather than everyone shouting 'hey, you!' when they needed each other's attention.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

While she slowly managed to get back onto her feet Lauren spit whatever was left in her mouth down onto the floor, wiping off her mouth with the only limb that hadn't been replaced and rubbing it onto her already tainted and tattered clothes. They were already worn ragged from the few days she managed to elude the scientist anyway, and it's not like she had spare clothes to wear either. As she turned to look at Solaris she barely heard the warning, watching as a fireball flew past her a few feet to her right and hearing it hit the panel close by - her body flinching instinctively as she quickly turned back towards the panels. As the smoke from the fireball gradually cleared the panel seemed unscathed from the attack, though the initial sigh of relief quickly wore off as a rhythmic sound quickly caught her attention. It sounded familiar... too familiar to be a coincidence. And it was slowly approaching them from the hallway. As she quickly sifted through her memories she remembered herself screaming in the room she awoke inside of days ago, her entire body trembling as she remembered who those metallic footsteps were coming from. Her mind started blanking out from the panic, though the sound of other voices reminded her that she wasn't alone anymore... At least, not for right now.
"Right, names..." Lauren spoke up after Kyra's introduction, still trembling a little as she struggled to calm her nerves. "Lauren Linn... My memory is sketchy at the moment, but we're currently trapped by the same madman that's responsible for all of these..." Lauren paused before gesturing towards all of the dead bodies around them, visibly distraught from the corpses haphazardly scattered across the floor. While Kyra was attempting to use the control panel, she decided to investigate the room they were in some more. Some parts of the room caught her attention more than others, as the distorted memories in her hosts head seemed to react to certain stimuli or environments. The first thing she decided to investigate were the bodies littering the floor, hoping that one if any of them might have a clue they could use - if not only to make walking around the room less of a tripping hazard. One by one she checked the dead for anything they might have retained on their person, lining them up against the tray of surgical tools in the center of the room to avoid them getting in the way of the bookshelves making up the walls. The process of checking the bodies made her extremely uncomfortable, as some of them had decomposed enough to where maggots were crawling out from the seams where the augments and flesh melded together. Though by the end of the investigation three bodies stood out to her in particular:

  • The first body seemed to have various runes carved into one of its augments, alongside writing that she couldn't read. As she dragged the body closer to the door Lauren checked the runes engraved onto the augment versus the runes on the door - with most of the runes matching up with the door while the rest seemed unrelated. While this clue alone didn't make it clear what they were dealing with, it did rule out a few of the runes that the door had that the engraved augment didn't. After a little bit of tinkering around with the augment, she successfully detached it from the body, carrying it over to the tray and setting it there for the time being.
  • The second body seemed to be holding a book taken from one of the bookshelves inside of the room they were in, implying they were alive at one point after arriving here. While at first it didn't seem important, opening the book revealed that they had hidden a stethoscope inside by carefully ripping the pages apart to retain the appearance of an untampered with book. The body also had a huge hole in their chest, so they likely died after hiding the stethoscope from the scientist. At first this confused her, as hearing someone's heartbeat wouldn't help with escaping the room they were in... Hearing... As she thought about the door that would be their escape, it clicked that they could use the stethoscope to figure out the combination of the lock faster and more reliably. After closing the book back up with the stethoscope inside, she moved the body to be with the first - to thank them both for their efforts to escape this place.
  • The third body looked familiar to Lauren, with the distortions in a few of her memories becoming less hazy. They were another Fae turned Abomination that the mad scientist tampered with, feeling an overwhelming sense of anger and loss well up from inside of her hosts body as she started to remember her hosts history with this person. They were once childhood friends that had grown up in different villages, though Lauren's host lived among the Grave Elves. The two of them had become close friends and even left their villages to explore the world together, but went their separate ways around a year ago due to tensions between the two. As she unwillingly sobbed she carefully picked up her hosts childhood friend, setting them beside the other two bodies and taking the necklace they had on them - putting it around their neck to remember their hosts friend by.

As Lauren made her way back over towards the others she looked more downtrodden and dirtier than before, with her already tattered clothing about to completely fall apart on her. She grabbed the augment she removed from the first body and brought it to the groups attention, making sure their eyes and ears were on her.
"I've checked the bodies for any clues, and I found that one of them had runes engraved onto one of their augments. Most of the runes engraved onto it match up with those on the door, though the rest don't seem to be related to the door at all. Also, there's some handwriting engraved onto it as well, though unfortunately I can't read it..." Lauren reported as she looked to the group for answers, hoping that at least one of them would be able to read the handwriting on the augment.

Eeriel wasn't really interested in introducing herself as she believes that they're in a strange situation where half of them might not be able to survive. Better avoid building attachement to these strangers for now, at least that's what she thought. One of them fiddled with the corpses and brought back a weird body part with her.

"Runes, you said?" Eeriel squinted her eyes trying to see said runes from her position on the floor, but it was too hard for her to do it from this position. So she leaps towards Lauren and climbed her like a tree before perching on her shoulder. The cat was trying to read the runes, she used to live with a wizard so there might be something she could read here.

Chamber of Horrors

1699243650749-png.1123145

Walnut, ever the silhouette of vigilance, remained an unyielding shadow beside his charge, Lady Suwa. In the dim light, his form was both an anchor and a beacon—his presence, a silent testament to an oath of protection that not even this charnel perversion of science could breach. His eyes, two flints of resolve in the flickering gloom, darted across the room, alight with the singular purpose of shielding the lady from the festering horrors that lay beyond the reach of their muted orb of light.

With the finesse of a courtier and the subtlety of a guardian, Walnut extended a hand, palm upturned in offering, to Lady Suwa. "This way," he intoned, his voice a low thrum, barely rising above the cacophony of despair that this place resonated with. He guided her with the assuredness of one who would let no harm befall his ward, his other hand ever ready to repel any who dared venture too close with a glare that could cut sharper than any blade.

As they maneuvered around the detritus of the damned, Walnut's gaze lingered on the charred control panel, a casualty of Solaris's well-meant but ultimately ill-fated conjuring. The panel, blackened and smoldering, seemed a dead end to any hope of technological salvation. Yet, in the twisted womb of this labyrinth, Kyra, with fingers as deft as a pickpocket's, probed the panel's remains. Her touch was gentle, almost reverent, as if she were coaxing secrets from the lips of a lover.

And secrets there were. Despite the scorching it endured, the panel flickered—its lights weak, but not extinguished. Within the carcass of circuits and wires, she discerned a pattern. The fire had not been entirely unkind; it had revealed underlying layers of wiring, previously hidden beneath panels and plating. These wirings snaked towards the massive door, suggesting a manual override might be possible—a hope, a chance to lock down the door through which their captor would soon emerge.

Meanwhile, Eeriel, with the innate curiosity of her feline form, surveyed the magical lock. Each rune glowed with an inner light, some pulsing slowly like the beat of a heart, others flickering rapidly as if agitated. She noticed that while most runes were vibrant, a few were dim, their light barely perceptible. It was as though they were suffocating, strangled by the same dark magic that kept the door sealed. Eeriel understood the language of magic—these runes required energy, a spark to reignite their potency. Perhaps if the right combination of glowing and dim runes were activated in sequence, it might just coax the lock open, or at least reveal its secrets to those with the knowledge to understand. Perhaps careful channeling of magic into the arcane lock would override or mimic the presumed key code needed.

  • Kidnapped
Solaris turned to the cat when Eeriel had asked if she was stupid. Solaris was going to make a comment about how her fire perhaps would be strong enough to burn down a metal door if it wasn't enough to entirely desimate a single panel. After Kyra and Lauren had introduced themselves and the cat had been reluctant to do so, Solaris took her 'turn' in terms of introduction.

    "I am Solaris Hearthen."

She had nothing to add, she didn't know where she was or why. And it seemed at least to the half-dog beast that it would be excessive to introduce herself as someone from the grand duchy in such a situation. It wouldn't be something that did them good. Solaris was going to start investigating, but it seemed that Lauren had found some information that could prove useful in escaping the room. She listened intently and rounded up her thoughts neatly.

    1. The runes That appeared to be on the bodies in the door.

    2. The body with the hidden stethoscope.

Solaris sat next to Eeriel, who she will call midnight until she learns the cat's name. Solaris observed the runes like Midnight and Lauren had and momentarily considers things. She murmured to herself.

"Might be a puzzle? Maybe there's a pattern to be noticed with the stethoscope."

She had to think of something...could noise translate it's own pattern? How would they figure it out? It was obviously a puzzle and Solaris knew as much as the others that they had to escape her captive. Solaris had never seen the language before... she asked Eeriel.

"I have yet to learn this language. What about you Midnight any ideas? Even if it's a vague one"

Solaris was by no means insulting the cat's intellect. This wasn't a cat versus dog scenario....albeit there was a difference between a dog beast and a small talking cat, the cat was still capable of being smart.

"Hmmm..." Eeriel wasn't sure on what to do with the runes so she had been trying to activate and deactivate the runes randomly. Unfortunately she didn't know the correct password. Maybe if they were strong enough they can just straight up blast the door open? Or maybe they should just jump on their kidnapper the moment they step in? Might be possible but its risky.

"I have yet to learn this language. What about you Midnight any ideas? Even if it's a vague one"

The cat looks around trying to find who this Midnight was but then she realized the girl was talking to her. Well, Midnight sound cool at least.

"This is some sort of magic keypad, but we need the password." She pointed at the lock.

"I'm sure the password is somewhere around here though. I mean, just look at this room. It's a mix of several mess together. Who the hell put corpses in a library? Anyone who respect books wouldn't do that! and then there's the two different locks on this side of the room. We're likely not dealing with regular kidnapper... We're dealing with a Jigsaw-wannabe!" Eeriel spoke her mind out loud dramatically, all while standing on her hind legs while spreading her front legs open. She immediately felts embarrassed though as she once again reminded herself that she was in different world now, nobody knows Jigsaw. She's also surprised that she still remember Jigsaw even when she couldn't recall her original human face.

"Err... Jigsaw is this insane guy who likes making puzzle and kill people, and then use puzzle to kill people." She tried to explain, but still feels silly about her previous outburst.

"A-anyway. Just looks around for any kind of pattern. The kidnapper likely want us to finds the password so it shouldn't be too hidden." The cat went back to the magic lock and tried to make more educated guess on the lock. Like making all of the runes glow, or all runes dim, or copying the combination of glow and dim runes like the one in the augment, or anything really. If none of it works she would start losing patience and just brute force it by entering numerous combinations one by one.

"Lauren," Kyra repeated to the girl with the mechanical limbs. Did they hurt, she wondered? Or had she been out long enough for the pain to pass? She seemed so familiar, but her memories from before were still hazy. "A pleasure to meet you, I hope." The talking cat wasn't so interested in introductions as they were in whatever it was that Lauren had found. The dog girl at least had better manners, and Kyra nodded to her. "Pleasure to meet you as well, Solaris." With some introductions now out of the way, she could turn her attention to the burnt control panel.

By some stroke of luck, the casing on the panel had peeled back to reveal a mess of wires within. She wrinkled her nose and gingerly poked at the wires, careful not to touch the exposed bits of metal. Even if she had come into this situation with appropriate skills- why hadn't she pursued the trades while on Earth?- there was no saying if the standards that she would have know would have applied here, or if their captor even cared. For all she knew, this was a completely homemade stringing of wires, and who knew what sorts of dangerous currents could be running through them? The general scenery hardly gave the impression that the owner of this place cared much about things like general safety or hygiene.

Somehow, from staring at it and playing around, the wires started to make sense. They looked to make their way to the door- which was promising. "Y'all, I think I can lock that door," she announced, nodding to it and the source of those gut-wrenching clanks. With the same care one worked with to use a sharp knife to make a delicious meal, she manipulated the wires, carefully tying them around each other to ensure that the door locked combination would stay in place even if the panel was knocked into. She turned back to the rest of their group. "That should keep our host busy for a second. So- what's next? Do we want to look for another way out, or maybe set up an attack for when we choose to open the door, and try to overwhelm... Whoever it is keeping us here? Or something else?" She looked at the rest of their group, hopeful that someone would have something to latch on to.

Suwa 1700014413927.png "Thank you, Walnut," Suwa softly thanked when Walnut took her hand to guide here. When everyone began introducing themselves, Suwa also followed suit, saying, "I'm Suwa, and this is my..." Suwa paused for a moment. Walnut was no longer a pet but truly an independently thinking individual. Calling Walnut "pet" felt wrong to here, so she used a different word to describe Walnut. "My aide, Walnut." She would have asked Walnut to say greetings himself as well, but she knew he didn't like strangers, and as such, chose to leave the introductions at that.

When listening to the others, Suwa quickly figured the "host" was no host at all nor the situation as safe as it seemed.

"Oh my, what a precarious situation we're in," Suwa muttered to herself. Despite saying that, however, she felt no urgency nor fear, but the same probably couldn't be said for Walnut, Suwa supposed. Not wanting to keep him and the others waiting, Suwa gently asked Walnut, "Ah, why don't you help the others or perhaps keep a watch, Walnut?" With her blindness, there wasn't much she could do at the moment except. So as not to be a bother, Suwa kept quiet and began listening to her surroundings.

The footsteps of the others. The soft clicks on the pin-pad. The distant echoes of machines. The clanks from a breaking door ( upscalerat upscalerat ). The drafts through the ventalation.

Drafts? Ventalation? Suwa thought to herself. While she couldn't see, perhaps there would be a spot where the can crawl through?

"Umm... excuse me?" Suwa politely piped, "Perhaps we could use the ventalations? I can't see the vents, but if they're close enough to the floor and large enough to fit us, perhaps we could use those?"

(Suwa tells Walnut to help the others or keep watch. Perhaps Walnut could look for the vents for Suwa)

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

"Unfortunately, I suspect our only option is to unlock the door..." Lauren quickly responded to Kyra's query, as her gaze wandered over towards the hallway that their pursuer was walking down. She looked back down to her new limbs before setting the engraved augment down onto the tray of surgical tools, giving the room another glance over as her hosts mind was trying to remember what happened to them. As she listened to the cat Eeriel talk about the runes relation to the door, the name Jigsaw briefly caught her attention... Wasn't that a Saw movie reference? Perhaps she wasn't the only one to have knowledge from other worlds, though she couldn't be sure about that suspicion. Her face displayed a certain level of guilt for the situation they were all in, partly due to her inadvertently dragging them into this situation - though mostly that she hadn't been more cautious when fleeing from their insane pursuer. As she leaned against the side of the panel she looked towards the group, ready to inform them of what she knew.

"Sorry for dragging you all into this mess... I don't remember much about who I... Who this person previously was, but they were connected to our current pursuer. The where and when are still distorted in what memories I can access, but the person after us has long since lost their humanity... If they ever were human to begin with." Lauren started rambling, as just the thought of the mad scientist was already having her quiver in fear. "When I woke up in their abode, I was in one of a couple beds inside of that room... The rest were occupied by dismembered corpses and various mechanical limbs presumably meant to be attached to their decrepit bodies... I remember staggering as I woke up, and having no feeling in the three limbs that 'thing' replaced with metal and wires... Then the terror of finding myself living in a foreign body I cannot recognize. At the time I screamed my lungs out... And that's when I heard the mechanical -clinks- and -clanks- rapidly running at me from a few rooms over..." Lauren paused as her only flesh and bone hand reached for her shirt, with her mechanical hand churning and clicking as she reached out towards one of the bookshelves - steadying herself as she fought to regain her composure. As she lifted her head back up tears rapidly flowed down and dripped all over the floor, using part of her torn shirt to wipe the tears away the best she could. "I jumped out of the window and ran as fast as I could, and when I looked back I saw them... Covered head to toe in metal, its legs resembled that of a zebra and arms similar to that of a praying mantis... It had several pairs of eyes akin to a spider, with its forehead pointed similar to a rhino and pieces of metal jutting out from its shoulders and back to form what I assumed could have been wings... It chased me relentlessly for nearly three days straight, though they only found me by the third day when I had tried sneaking into a nearby town to try finding some food and better clothing..."

Lauren took a long pause as she began sobbing uncontrollably, collapsing to her knees as she cried her heart out. She couldn't hold back the pain and sorrow anymore. The memories of her old life only made her new reality all the more unbearable, having spent most of her life towards her dream of researching Pandora's Prism only to die and be reincarnated into a foreign body tampered with by an insane psychopath. As she slowly let out all of her pent up emotions she gradually calmed down, taking a few minutes to get back onto her feet as her mind was now clear and more determined than ever. Eventually the odd Jigsaw comment earlier came back to mind, making her more curious as to what exactly the cats backstory was. As she thought of where to continue the story and how it connected back to their current situation, she thought of a nickname to give the deranged madman.
"Seeing as I don't know our pursuers name, perhaps something along the lines of 'Terminator' would be sufficient for now... So, as to why I've brought all of this up, I can almost guarantee that they've taken some extra precautions since my last escape... However, they seem to be interested in toying with me, considering how much faster on foot they are than me and the fact they have trapped us in this location." She hypothesized as she slowly walked towards the lock on the door, before gesturing towards the augment laying on the tray. "They likely chose this place specifically, because the person that lived in this body prior was familiar with this place - perhaps even knowing our pursuer before they became the thing they are now. As for how to figure out the combination for the lock, I'll probably have to try searching amidst the memories they once had for clues... Maybe even answers about what happened to them..." Lauren concluded before looking away from the group, turning her gaze over toward one particular part of the room that had been stimulating her hosts memories the most so far. It was a vast bookshelf full of various stories based on or retelling legends, with all of them sounding familiar yet obscure. One regaled a bandit ghost turned vigilante that sought revenge on their killer, and another recalled the harrowing journey of a survivalist that specialized in killing the undead with a bow and arrow. Without any other leads and running out of precious time, she started looking through the books one at a time while trying to recall her hosts memories.

Chamber of Horrors

1699243650749-png.1123145

Amidst the oppressive shadows of the chamber, where the light dared only to whisper over the cold marriage of flesh and steel, the companions found themselves cast as unwilling players in a macabre theatre of intellect and survival. The clanking cadence of their pursuer, now a sinister metronome, lent urgency to their thoughts and actions, a reminder that the luxury of time was a currency long spent.

Walnut, with a loyalty wrought from bonds deeper than the mere mechanics of duty, felt the subtle shift in the air—the stir of potential avenues yet unexplored. His vigilant gaze sought out the vents that whispered of escape, a silent hunter in search of the unseen path that might deliver them from this orchestrated nightmare.

As the control panel yielded its secrets to Kyra’s skilled hands, the group felt a momentary shroud of control, a fleeting dominion over their fate as the door's lock clicked into place. Yet, the promise of safety was as thin as the veneer of civility that their captor had cast aside. Each second that ticked by was a taunt, a challenge to their collective resolve.

Eeriel’s feline grace belied the analytical mind that worked to decode the enigma of the runes—a magical puzzle that teased them with its elusive key. Her dialogue with Solaris, a series of hypothesis and strategy, was a testament to their determination to wrestle understanding from the clutches of the arcane. She knew how to overcome the arcane lock already. Now to put that knowledge to use with effort.

And Lauren, the unwitting nexus of their predicament, wove a tale of loss and terror that hung heavy upon the air. Her sorrow was a tangible thing, a shroud that momentarily enveloped them all. She turned to the tomes, each a sentinel of knowledge, seeking a thread of memory that might unravel the mystery of their confinement.

As the characters readied themselves for what may come, the space itself seemed to hold its breath, the silence a prelude to a reckoning that was to be written in the annals of this forsaken place. The mad scientist, a shadow just beyond the light, a specter at the feast of sanity, loomed as both the architect and the executioner of their plight. Suddenly the steps of their captor were no longer audible as a bleary shadow loomed at the main door, locked out, but for how long.

The first thing Solaris felt was relief that Kyra was able to lock the door. Though she knew it was a temporary relief, something to get them all more time to figure out an escape route and get out there. As Eeriel fiddled with the door, Solaris looked for a way she could help. After listening closely and intently to Lauren's unfortunate story, Solaris found herself trying to pick up pieces of what Lauren had mentioned for clues to what was happening and why. If a fight came down to it, Solaris had flames but she was a healer and most of her abilities revolved around healing injuries and illness. Thinking about it, she hadn't heard of a condition like Lauren's, a condition where she seemed to be in someone else's body. Granted, Solaris also hadn't heard of the mechanical creature that seemed to be their pursuer...though Solaris also didn't know much about technology. Thinking about how to help, she sat next to Eeriel. If what Lauren said held true to fact, then it was best for everyone to keep their guard up and, should the case arise for combat, fight with everything they have. Solaris told the black cat

"If you know how to get it open I'll stick by your side. While I'm not the most combat ready, I can summon balls of fire to at least do some damage or cause a distraction. And I can heal"

Most of her skills were related to healing in medicine, but the basics of her spells allowed her to learn some stuff that maybe helpful should the group need to engage in combat. Looking at Suwa. Solaris hopes her companion will find something soon. With how many unpredictable variables there were, Solaris prepares herself as much as she can.

With the door safely locked, Kyra turned to Lauren as she spoke and listened, moth agape in both horror and sympathy as the semi-mechanical girl shared her story. "Oh, Lauren," she finally breathed, and sighed. "You've got nothing to apologize for, alright? It's not your fault that this... Well, whoever it is, that they did that to you. Or captured the rest of us. We'll figure out how to get away for good this time, okay?" To her own ears, the words felt hollow in the dark chamber as the sounds of their captors grew closer, but she hoped that the others would find it more inspirational than naive.

As Lauren went to investigate the bookshelves, Kyra found her attention drawn to Solaris' offer of aid to the cat, and then to Suwa, the latter's proposal still on her mind. And finally, she took a better stock of the room now that she was more coherent. The situation was hardly great: Lauren seemed to be freshly awoken and likely too unused to her body to fight; Suwa was blind; a housecat could only do so much against some mechanical monstrosity; and Kyra was hardly the most skilled fighter either. Her eyes fixed on the surgical tools, the idea of what they were likely meant for causing her stomach to churn.

And then an idea came to her. She went to the tray and grabbed as many tools that looked sharp, then went to Lauren and Solaris each to hand them some. "Here. It won't be much, but, for one, if any of us can find that ventilation shaft, then this will work as a screwdriver. And, Solaris, if you can blast him with fire again... If his metal plating is like the control panel," she nodded with her head over to the scorched mess, "then maybe you could expose some wiring. If we start snipping that," she held up a scalpel, "then we'll probably end up disrupting some of the signals that he needs to move. From Lauren's description, he's pretty bulky, so it would be hard for him to move without power. But let's hope it doesn't come to that." With that backup plan proposed, she turned, and started to hunt around for the vent that Suwa had spoken of.

Lady Suwa 1700630895708.png Suwa listened intently, the atmosphere around her growing more serious but no less gentle as it once had. Any less attention would be disrespectful, for this young girl was incredibly brave for sharing her story, her worries, her hardships. The anxiety in the girls voice shook Suwa as she felt the confused terror and irritation of being tossed around like a plaything.

"There's nothing I can do to change the past," Suwa remarked(@ II-CinderRadcliff-II II-CinderRadcliff-II ), "but I can say this about the present. You're strong Lauren, and incredibly brave as well. Standing up to our captor like that takes gumption. Even if tonight we meet our end, know that it wasn't from lack of trying." Suwa smiled, "and if we don't meet our end, we'll add a new story into this chapter of our lives." Suwa then stood up to begin looking for the ventilation shaft. To everyone, she said, "After the danger has passed, let's have a nice meal together, shall we? In the meanwhile, I'll help look for the ventilation shaft should our other options be exhausted... and find an exit we shall!" Suwa's voice grew cheerful, as a lovely optimism and hope began rolling off her. Their situation may be dour, but their hope has yet to be extinguished.

"Walnut," Suwa called, "let's go listen for the ventilation shall we?" She stretched her hand forward before waiting for Walnut to take her hand. "Ah, and if our host is about to get hasty, please do tell us."

Suwa has Walnut guide her as she attempts to walk around, listening for the ventilation shaft.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

As Lauren sifted through one book after another she started to wander into her thoughts, the memories of her host beckoning her attention. The words she was reading gave way to the dreamscape that was the museum, finding herself back inside of the museum lobby where she started last time. Although everything looked... different. The pristine yet cracked marble pillars had given way to eroded ruins covered in a layer of moss and vines, with puddles of water covering the floor as water dripped down from the ceiling - large holes having given way with vines drooping down from their edges. She cautiously walked down the same hallway she had wandered down previously, finding that the various paintings depicting her hosts previous life still hung up on the walls. While most were still heavily distorted as they were before, more memories have returned to their previous clarity... As the memories started to play before her one by one, she realised that the life of her previous host was far from a happy one.

  • Lauren's host was born to a Grave Elf mother and a human father, having been gifted the name of Lilan and inherited her fathers last name Wright. Both of her parents lived within the Grave Elves village her mother was born in, albeit with the residents heavily discriminating against her father. Lilans' home life wasn't much better, as both of her parents regularly got into heated arguments that sometimes turned to violence. By the time she was 6 years old the arguments got worse and more violent, with one night having her carefully sneak past her parents bedroom. She could only recall grabbing a blanket and her slippers, before slently opening the front door and leaving. The sight of snow and the chill of cold had initially cautioned her to turn back and return to bed, though the thought that she was the cause of her parents ceaseless screaming matches and the guilt that came with it heavily outweighed any hesitation she had. She ran from both her home and her village, wandering through the forest around her home without any direction to go. The numb of the cold gradually crept up her limbs as she continued her treck, the previously warm blanket growing colder and wetter the more she wandered through the forest. The previously light snowfall turned into a flurry of endless white, panic setting in as she ran in a futile attempt to escape it. Before she had blacked out she could faintly hear voices over the howling winds, a figure with a peculiar looking hat and coat slowly approaching her.
  • Lilan was now on the cusp of 10 years old now, with one less finger and a few less toes than when she was younger. She recalled looking up at her parents, who seemed to be getting along better than ever before her attention was drawn to her childhood friend. She ran up to him before they started chatting, seeing the person that had saved her off in the distance as she chatted with the other villagers. It seemed as if she was a former pirate turned adventurer, though circumstances seemed to have guided her to live within the neighboring village and help defend it from various threats. While she didn't know a lot about the adventurers life, she knew that the pirate also acted as her best friends mother-in-law. As Lilan grew older her parents started taking her over to her friends village more frequently as the discrimination in their own village grew worse, with both of them having grown more concerned about her safety. The memory of seeing their worry and regret still lingered, as since the incident they tried discussing their issues with each other in a more civil manner - having outright stopped their violent fights altogether. Their love for her became apparent after her first and only time running away from home...
  • Lilan was only 12 when her parents asked the pirate to take her with them, as they needed to move out of the village and they couldn't guarentee that they'd be safe while leaving the village behind. Despite her protests she was forced to join the pirate and her childhood friend on the lengthy trip to Ryke's capitol city, with the journey taking weeks to arrive. From there her memory started growing fuzzy again.
As Lauren looked around she found that one of the memory frames she witnessed had a single rune engraved onto them, gradually finding the dreamscape around her fading away as she turned to the next page of the book she was now on... How many had she read while revisiting the dreamscape of her host? Her eyes locked onto a certain part of the page as she found the same rune that the memory frame did, reading the entire contents of the page as she searched for answers. While she couldn't be certain, she believed that it represented a date in time, rushing over to the group with the book wide open to show the rune discovered.
"I found something! I think it's supposed to represent a specific date in time, but it matches up with one of the runes on the door." Lauren excitedly proclaimed as she thrusted the book towards Kyra. "If one of us can interperate what the rune means, we'll have a good clue as to how to open the lock."

"Well, look at the bright side. At least you don't wake up to find yourself as a cat. Heh." Eeriel chimed at Lauren's story of herself. She was splitting her attention between the countless rune combinations she's trying and listening to what her fellow prisoners were conversing so it took her a few seconds before she fully register what Lauren said, like the fact that she's talking about herself as if she's some sort of software upgrade.

However before the cat could inquire her about it Lauren presented another clue into their predicament in the form of one particular book. Eeriel raised her eyebrows at it. That's a very peculiar spot to put a clue in, it's like the psychopath want to force Lauren to dig into her memory? At least that's what Eeriel thought about their kidnapper's line of thinking. Anyway, once again she climbed Lauren and sat on her shoulder to read the book, trying to make sense of the content and hopefully finding a clue to the door's combination.

Labyrinth
of Horrors

1700890521370.png

The chamber, once a silent witness to the mad scientist's perversions, now resonated with a growing sense of terror. The main door, a barrier between the captives and their twisted captor, shuddered under the relentless assault of the inhuman force beyond. Each thunderous crash against the metal was a death knell, the sound of inevitability hammering into their minds. The very air became a tangible shroud of dread, heavy with the scent of oil and fear, as the likelihood of the mad scientist's entry grew ever more certain.

In a panic, Eeriel's actions eventually shifted to the lock. There was no time to read only half understood notes looking for symbols at random with potentially no connection to the lock at hand. With arcane energy crackling, she poured her essence into the lock—an act of wild abandon. The lock, overwhelmed by the raw mana, convulsed and then, with a sound like the world drawing breath, exploded in a burst of light and power, granting them a reprieve as the back door swung open in silent invitation.

Walnut, swiftly recognizing the moment for what it was, wasted not a moment. His form was a blur of motion, a dark shape cutting through the tension as he ushered Lady Suwa through the threshold, her hand in his—a lifeline in the chaos.

The entity at the main door vanished, as if it had been but a specter, a haunt conjured from their deepest fears. An uncanny silence enveloped the room, a quiet so deep it was as if the very stones of the chamber were holding their breath.

The party, driven by survival's drumbeat, raced through the bowels of the building, the stone passageways a blur around them. Their fate if they stayed was all around them. They burst into a spacious chamber, the sudden expanse disorienting in its vastness. But no sooner had they taken in their new surroundings than the way back sealed with a finality that echoed in their bones—a massive wall sliding into place with a resounding boom.

They found themselves ensnared in something, a construct of the mad scientist's design. It was a place of echoes and shadows, where the very walls seemed to pulse with a life of their own. The air was thick with the metallic tang of blood and the musty stench of decay, a miasma that clawed at their senses.

From all around them, as if from an omnipresent intercom, came the sound of breathing—not just any breathing, but a ragged, inhuman inhalation that turned to a guttural, inhuman laughter. The laughter of a mind unraveled, of sanity sundered. It was a sound that curled around their hearts like icy fingers.

Then, the labyrinth began to stir with life. The soft, skittering whispers of movement in the dark, the clank of metal, the distant shrieks of things lost to madness—these were the horrors that awaited them. The atmosphere was saturated with the promise of unseen threats, each shadow a hiding place for the scientist's other toys, each corner a potential death trap.

The party stood at the edge of an abyss, the labyrinth before them an enigma wrapped in dread. Their senses were assaulted by the nearness of danger, the smell of mold and rust, the feel of the damp air against their skin, the taste of fear in their mouths. And before them, an immediate choice presented itself—a path that split in two directions, one shrouded in darkness, the other echoing with the distant sounds of chains dragging across stone.

With the walls of the labyrinth pressing in, they had to move, to choose a path in the dark geometry of their prison, for to stand still was to succumb to the madness that now laughed in their ears.

The apparent threats ahead gave Walnut pause, but standing still was clearly not the thing to do at that moment.

Solaris nodded at Kyra's suggestion, it was reasonable. She did do okay when it came to damaging the panel, so though ideally, it would be better if they didn't bump into their captor, but it might be a worthwhile to attempt to use Blazed Shot against him if they did. For now, the group could only hope it didn't come to that. Solaris's attention was caught when Eeriel managed to open the door. As soon as Solaris had heard the boom after they made it way through the building, she on instinct moved her left paw under her Butterfly necklace once more, preparing to attack if need be that noise was by no means a good sign. The laughter that had come in through the intercom was no more calming than the sudden screeching of a rabid animal. Solaris, unfortunately had not been gifted with heightened senses thanks to the human blood that ran through her veins. But despite her lack of heightened senses, the smell of rust was so strong it made her nose scrunch up. It took her a minute before her mind caught up and she noticed the two different pathways.

"I do not recommend splitting up. Any ideas on which direction we should go, Lauren? If not, then the dark path might be the better option."

No one had said anything about that yet, but if anyone did think about splitting up, perhaps it was best to shoot the idea down before it was voiced.

"Let's go! Go! Go!" In a rush of adrenaline as she got the door opened, Eeriel ran through the door expecting a more open place... only to find a big labyrinth awaits them.

"Of course, it is not that easy." She grumbled at the sight in front of her. The hell was this place anyways? Some sort of underground bunker? Magical pocket dimension? Unfortunately just thinking about it wouldn't get them anywhere so she kept running. As the path branched in two, Eeriel didn't even skip a beat as she went to the less shadowy area, regardless of the ominous noise of dragging chains ahead.

"Come on guys. It's better to see an axe being swung to your face rather than getting stabbed by needle in the dark." Eeriel continued going down the route.

1701293719019.png"Oh dear!" Suwa exclaimed as Walnut grabbed her hand. She stumbled slightly but quickly brought herself to a comfortable run as she matched her pace with Walnut's run. When they finally stopped, Suwa became confused as to why they were stopping, but after hearing about a fork in the road, Suwa initially thought that the brightly lit path would be best, but she couldn't be sure at all though. Perhaps the choice was not as clear as it made itself out to be.

"We shouldn't make any hasty decisions," Suwa remarked, "before all this, the little voice in my head told me that Walnut has a special talent for sensing danger." Suwa turned her head down to face Walnut, who was still holding her hand. "What do you think, Walnut? Which path would be best for us?"

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Lauren had gone back to reading the book before hearing the lock to the door explode, turning to see the door open up before them. After a split second of processing the opening of the door Lauren started for it in a full-on sprint, desperate to escape the confines of the prison the mad scientist had trapped them in. As she approached the hallways exit she slowed to a stop to find that they were now in a maze, feeling a sense of dread looming over her until her mind started spacing out. Maybe her imagination was playing tricks on her, but she could see herself for a brief moment fighting some oversized monster in an airborne arena... Seeing electricity arching off of her arms and legs as each of her punches and kicks landed with the creatures legs. And as soon as these strange images came they vanished quickly after, her mind wandering about what caused her to see such things. Could it have been her hosts past life... No, the version of herself she saw still had the mechanical limbs she had. Without more memories of her host though, she couldn't tell for sure if it was only a dream or a memory. Still, it did give her an idea. She closed her eyes and focused, imagining the electrical signals in her nerves gradually amplifying into an [Electrostatic Pulse] - the nerves turning into electrical wires for all that electricity to flow through. As she opened her eyes she could feel the hairs on her arm rise, using her mechanical hand to reach for the metal wall. The moment her hand touched the wall a loud crack sounded as the electricity stored within her was imparted into the wall, a smile forming on her face as she now had something she could use to fight back with.

Lauren looked to Solaris as they asked her for directions, taking a moment to think as she looked towards either of the paths. She was hoping that the same feeling she had earlier would come to her, but neither path seemed to provide insight for revealing more of her memories. With a shake of her head, she then voiced her opinion.
"While I don't know which path will lead us out of here, the answer is probably where those groans are coming from. We know that it'll likely be dangerous, but it's usually better to work with what you know than take risks with unknown factors... Besides that, I wouldn't doubt the presence of traps hidden in the darkness." Lauren reasoned as she voiced her concerns with the darkened path to the group, before giving a slight smirk to Solaris. "Besides that though, the source of the groans might not be hostile. And if they are, I could definitely use the practice should we have to fight our pursuer."
