Graded [Frontier] - Amidst the Memories They Once Had - Escape from the Madman

The book was a surprise, Kyra had to admit. She tried to take the change in stride, and offered Lauren an encouraging smile. "Great find! With all of us, I'm sure we'll be able to figure this out." But that quickly proved to be unnecessary- the door swung open a moment later, the cat apparently having been successful in finding the combination. Their random party wasted no time in hurrying through the door and corridors, only stopping when they made their way to a spacious room. Behind them, the passageway they had come through sealed itself off, and gave Kyra a sense of foreboding. Would it act as a barrier between them and their captor, or was it the monster simply corralling them like animals to slaughter? She tried not to dwell on the question, and looked to their next challenge instead.

The smell was somehow worse here than it had been with the corpses. It was only adrenaline that helped Kyra to keep her stomach, especially as a sort of laughter hissed around the large room- and she had the answer to her previous question. There were two paths in front of them, and little time to ascertain what was down either one. She nodded along with Solaris and Lauren, and glanced at both the cat and Suwa as they spoke. "Glad to hear we're in agreement about not splitting up. And I think Lauren and the cat make a good point; we should probably assume that there's danger down either path. I like the idea of being able to see it coming." She eyed the others, waiting for either an objection or agreement about which path to take.

TLDR: The party, venturing down the dimly lit maze corridor, is confronted by grotesque, mechanical monstrosities created by the mad scientist, forcing them to choose between a desperate fight and fleeing to the dark corridor labyrinth.

Labyrinth of Horrors

1700890521370-png.1126595

In the stygian depths of the labyrinth, the corridor illuminated by a sickly, pallid light, the party ventured forth, each step requiring more bravery or desperation than the last. The air was thick, not just with the metallic tang of ancient blood and the clinging miasma of decay, but with the palpable essence of fear—fear that clung to the walls like a living thing, seeping into their very bones. The tell tale signs of many others passing that way and likely with less luck than they was apparent.

The path, lit in a way that cast elongated shadows which danced and flickered like specters, led them deeper into the bowels of this hellish maze. The sounds that had echoed earlier—a cacophony of chains dragging, metal clanking, and distant, inhuman groans and cries—grew steadily louder, a discordant frenzy of the damned that resonated with the very beat of their racing hearts.

Walnut, his senses honed by an innate vigilance, felt a ripple in the air—a shiver of malice that whispered of malevolent presences lurking just beyond the reach of their vision. His instinct, a primal alarm, screamed a warning: they were not alone in this corridor of nightmares. He would immediately warn the party as he guided Lady Suwa.

Ahead, the shadows began to move with a sinister autonomy. Shapes, grotesque and malformed, emerged from the darkness, shambling forward with jerky, unnatural motions. They were the mad scientist's monstrous creations—amalgamations of flesh and metal, limbs replaced with blades and appendages twisted into tools of butchery. Their eyes, if they could be called eyes, glowed with a malevolent light, reflecting not just the dim illumination of the corridor, but the spark of a frenzied, unhinged hunger.

The party, confronted by the disgusting horrors, would feel the weight of their situation like a physical blow. Each creation was a testament to their captors insanity—a perversion of nature and machine, a violation of the very essence of life. The air was rent with the sound of servos and gears, the whirring of mechanical joints, and the soft, wet sounds of labored breathing from throats no longer wholly human.

Their path now barred by these abominations, the party had to make a choice. Fight these twisted creatures, each a nightmare given form, or flee into the unknown depths of the labyrinth, risking the unseen horrors that lay in wait. The tension was a tangible thing, a thick, choking fog that wrapped around them, squeezing the breath from their lungs.

As the monsters advanced, their movements a grotesque parody of life, the party would instinctually ready themselves: fight or flight?. This was a fight not just for survival, but for their very souls, against the backdrop of a madman's twisted dreams. The air was filled with the scent of ozone and blood, the sounds of impending violence echoing off the stone walls, as they steeled themselves for the confrontation. Should they somehow survive this ordeal but not escape, surely these creatures fates would be shared with them.

"We should go the other way, Lady Suwa,"

Walnut would whisper fervently as he tongued her hand to flee in the other direction as the wretched creatures started to focus on them and hurry their pace. Inhuman screaming erupted from some of them.

Solaris was, as it stood, someone who was studying medicine. Seeing the monstrosities that were victims of their captor made her feel nauseated, they were what she would picture as the outcome of the dead being brought back to life, but simply worse due to their mechanical limbs. Solaris couldn't make heads or tails of what their captor had in mind for them, what their captor's goal was exactly, but it became more and more clear as the clock ticked that they were truly dealing with a madman, though that part was obvious. Solaris knew she had to do something quick. Solaris held her right paw up, keeping her left paw under the red and orange butterfly necklace that functioned as her catalyst. She warned the others.

    "Go in the other direction!"

It was possibly stupid on her end, but if these were to actually be walking corpses, then fire might be able to delay them. Disregarding any combat spell she knew at the moment was made from scraps of what made up her healing spells, she murmured a sentence and flames lit the immediate area around her as she used [Fields Ablazed [F]]. She had done her best to jump over the fire, and then she had started running the other direction.

The cat smell them before she even see them. The stench of blood, rot and rust. As the creatures came into view she immediately winced in disgust. Nope. She's not going to risk fighting them. She turned around without hesitation and ran back the way they came. The fire from Solaris' spell sparked an idea inside her tiny cat brain.

"Oy, use your fire to light the way. We're going into that dark path from before." She yelled at Solaris.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Lauren looked towards the source of the groans, curiosity gradually giving way to fear as the mangled messes of human augmentation drew closer. She couldn't even begin to compare herself to them with how different she was from these monstrosities... The rigid metal throughout their body, the eerie glow of eyes filled with malice, the claws that were reaching out to them, every part of them gave her a sickening sense of relief that she hadn't become one of these freaks. As one of them in particular was getting too close for comfort she quickly charged up an [Electric Pulse] within her body, before swiftly punching it hard with her mechanical hand as all of the electricity within her jumped into the monster. As it convulsed in front of her she took the opportunity to back away before Solaris has warned the group to back off, avoiding the flames that sprung up around them before looking towards the corridor obscured by shadows. To her knowledge the only person in their group that could light up the path was now stuck within the ring of fire they made to try and hold the monsters back, though she didn't have to worry about it for long as they had tried jumping out of the flames back towards the group.
"Probably best if we don't fight those... Things." Lauren commented before giving a disappointed sigh, looking to Solaris before making her way back towards the other path. "That only leaves the unknown dangers lurking in the dark. I'll follow your lead since you can illuminate our only way out of here."

Suwa1702019583519.pngWhen Walnut mentioned the presence of some hostile creatures off in the distance, Suwa remained oddly calm and collected. Even when the rotting smell of the abominations reached her nose, Suwa didn't flinch. Perhaps her blindness shielded her, or perhaps she'd already accepted her prior death. Whatever the reason was for her bravery, Suwa's cool remained despite her being the most vulnerable in the group.

When Walnut urged her to go with the others, Suwa didn't budge for a moment, whispering, "Not without the others. We only leave when they leave." She understood how Walnut felt about her safety, but they couldn't just wander off without the others. Suwa wanted to be there as a witness to their struggle, regardless if it ended in victory or tragedy. She still shifted ever so slightly towards Walnut and away from the abominations.

Upon hearing the new plans about going through the darkness, Suwa piped up, "I'll have Walnut serve as a secondary guide. He may be able to help with his good hearing and good smell." Suwa then whispered to herself, "Perhaps I can help in my own ways..." Suwa was, in fact, conscious when she was brought down here. Perhaps she could remember the path?

Suwa commands Walnut to help Solaris with navigation using hearing and smell.
Suwa uses [Eidetic Memory F] in an attempt to remember the dark path's layout.

Labyrinth of Horrors

1700890521370-png.1126595

In the gloom of the labyrinth, the embodiment of shadows and secrets, the scene unfolded with the grim inevitability of a nightmare descending into madness. Solaris, in a desperate bid for survival, had unleashed her flames—a conflagration that danced with wild abandon, a beacon of defiance in the suffocating dark. Yet, in her haste, the fire became a traitor to its summoner. The flames, like serpents of searing agony, coiled around her legs, consuming cloth and flesh in a gruesome embrace. Her skin charred, flesh flaking off into ash and cinders, some embers still gnawing greedily at what remained. If she were to scream, it would be one more sound in the discordant choir of the damned that echoed in the halls.

The grotesque abominations, creations of meat and machinery, seemed undeterred by the inferno. Their screams crescendoed as they clamored around the fire, their unhinged gait a dance of the macabre. They approached Solaris, drawn to her plight like moths to a flame, their twisted forms a horrifying testament to the depths of their creator’s madness and made only more gruesome cast by the harsh light and shadow of Solaris's blaze.

Lauren, her mechanical arm now a liability, found her strength turned against her. The creature she struck absorbed the impact, its flesh sizzling, a grotesque counterpoint to the shattering of metal and wire within her own limb. Pain lanced through her, a stark reminder of her vulnerability. The creature, relentless in its pursuit, offered no respite, no quarter. Another strike might render her arm useless, a broken tool in this game of survival and horror. The experiment hot on her heels could be felt at the back of her neck.

Meanwhile, Eeriel, Suwa, and Walnut, guided by instinct and fear, fled down the darkened path. Walnut’s senses, sharp and attuned to the lurking dangers, strained against the cacophony of mechanical and bestial clamor pursuing them. The darkness enveloped them, a shroud that hid Walnut’s defeated expression but not the resolute timbre of his voice as he vowed to protect his mistress. Each fork in the path was a mirror of despair, echoing with the cries of unseen horrors, a maze with no end, no salvation. Suwa would not remember ever passing through the maze, instead passing through presumably the main building behind them.

As they chose a path, almost at random, the omnipresent breathing of the mad cyborg filled the air once more—a reminder that they were but rats in a twisted experiment, pawns in a game orchestrated by a mind unhinged. The breathy, inhuman sounds seemed to mock their efforts, a chilling whisper that promised only more terror, more despair.

In this labyrinth of horrors, every shadow concealed a threat, every sound was a harbinger of doom. The oppressive atmosphere was suffused with a sense of hopelessness, the realization that escape was a fleeting dream in the mind of a madman. The very walls of the labyrinth seemed to pulse with a malevolent life of their own, the stone corridors a winding trap set by a scientist whose insanity knew no bounds.

In this dance of death and despair, the party’s choices dwindled, their options a cruel illusion in the grand design of their tormentor. The labyrinth was not just a physical barrier but a psychological one, each turn, each scream, a twist of the knife in the psyche of its prisoners. The breath of the mad cyborg, a spectral presence in the darkness, was a constant reminder that their every move was watched, every decision anticipated in this morbid theater of the damned.

Solaris screamed in pain as she was scorched by her own flames. The fire had been quick to die down. Now being nonexistent, she yelled 'help!'. She knew she wouldn't be surprised if the others had chosen not to help her. And for that she also knew she had to help herself. She was a healer, so she could only hope injuries like this would be within her skills at the current moment. She put her left paw under her catalyst and held up her left paw--this wasn't an attack this time. She muttered her incantation and summoned a ball of flames the size of her paw and shot it at her legs in attempt to heal her injuries. Solaris would then attempt to flee. It was difficult for her to stand and her attempted fleeing wasn't helped by her limping.

~'Nox'~

1702493428018.png
From the depths of the labyrinth, a feral force emerged—a tempest of crimson fury and moonlit madness. Nox, her eyes ablaze with an unholy radiance, stepped forward with a primal determination. The haunting echoes of her heels were drowned out by the pulsating rhythm of her bloodlust, an ominous drumbeat that heralded impending chaos.

The twisted abominations, once indifferent to the struggles of their prey, recoiled in instinctive fear. Nox's entrance was not that of a silent wraith; it was the unleashed wrath of a moonlit vampire, a creature whose very existence thrived on the thrill of the hunt and the taste of monstrous blood.

As Nox advanced, her moonlit katana drew forth, a gleaming extension of her vengeful will. The blade seemed to hunger, its glow intensifying with each step, as if eager to be sated in the grotesque banquet that awaited. The tortured cries of the abominations took on a discordant note, a desperate melody of impending demise. Her gaze, a searing brand of rage, swept over each member, a silent declaration that in this macabre dance, she was the harbinger of retribution.

Nox's killing intent hung thick in the air, a suffocating miasma that seemed to infect even the very stones of the labyrinth. The feral gleam in her eyes betrayed no mercy, no hesitation. She was a force of nature, a creature of the moon-driven night, and in this unholy theater, she would revel in the ecstasy of the hunt. The click of her heels became a battle drum, an ominous cadence that propelled her forward. The shadows recoiled from her advance, and the monsters that once thought themselves predators found that they were now prey to a moonlit storm.

No words escaped Nox's lips, for her message was written in the language of fangs and claws, in the symphony of chaos that echoed through the labyrinth's cursed halls. The party, momentarily caught in the eye of this tempest, could only watch as Nox, fueled by the moon's cruel blessing, unleashed her berserker's dance upon the abominations that dared to challenge her wrath by even existing within her proximity.

Suwa1702539935102.pngAs Walnut began to usher Suwa away into the corridors of the darkened maze, her ears caught the pained cries of Solaris. Her skin prickled with fear as she tugged to stop Walnut's march.

"Walnut! Solaris is in danger!" Suwa shouted, finally feeling fear for the first time. However, a moment was all she needed to calm down before realizing Walnut's perspective. She paused for a moment before telling Walnut, "Are the monsters close?" Suwa hoped Walnut would know what she meant. If the monsters were too close for Suwa to leave behind, she'd allow Walnut to move her away, but if they were far enough that Walnut could retrieve Solaris without endangering Suwa, that would be what Suwa would want.

However, before Walnut could even give his response, Suwa heard ghostly footsteps from the direction of the darkened hallways. A shiver mixed with excitement and dread shot down her spine. While Suwa didn't have Walnut's uncanny ability to sense danger, she could hear the deadly rythym intwined into those steps, the bloodlust oozing from the person, or creature, arriving from the corridor. Whatever it was, Suwa knew that was it, the end of their story. Instinctively, Suwa hugged Walnut, wrapping and hunching herself over him like a mother protecting a child against the inevitable. Her mind went blank as she held Walnuts warm body against her own, waiting for her death as the bloody footsteps grew ever closer.

...but the death never arrived. Rather, when the bloodlust grew unbearable, the creature ran right past them, the wind whooshing behind it. Suwa looked up though she had no eyes. Shortly after, the sickening sounds of metal against metal and flesh reverberated throughout the corridors. Suwa swiveled her head a bit to figure out what was going on, and then the situation struck her.

"Walnut! Go grab Solaris!" Suwa let go of Walnut and shoved him towards the sounds of fighting.

Suwa's [Empathy - F] picks up on Nox's bloodlust.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Lauren was quick to recoil and gain some distance after her attempted attack was... Less than successful. Pieces of metal had fallen off akin to a sand castle left to dry, with various wires having been dislodged from their sockets as she lost most of the functionality in her arms. As she reached the fork in the path they had come across earlier she instinctively turned back as Solaris screamed from pain and called for help, hesitating for a moment before rushing back for them. She knew the risk that would come if she had to fight those things off, though despite that she shuddered at the thought of the mad-man having yet another victim to toy with. From what she could tell the monsters hadn't yet reached her fellow party member, quickly wrapping her arms underneath Solaris' shoulder and helping her back down towards the fork in the road.
"That was a bit too reckless... That said, I was a little bit reckless in assuming we could fight these things." Lauren admitted out of guilt as she reached the fork in the path, pausing to hear commotion coming from the path Suwa and the others had taken. The first thing she heard were footsteps approaching, with the worry about it being the mad scientist quickly being dashed. Those footsteps were too light and quiet for it to have been him, though the sense of danger lingered all the same. Having put enough distance for the time being between the two of them and the monsters, she helped Solaris get comfortable leaning against the wall of the labyrinth before joining her. Stuck between two looming sources of death, she watched as someone gradually approached from the shadows with a sword in hand - expecting to meet her end. She closed her eyes for a few moments, only to be met with the figures footsteps walking past them and down the path that the monsters were. Opening her eyes again she quickly looked herself over alongside looking towards Solaris, finding that both of them were spared from facing death for the time being. "We should probably get going, do you need some help to make it the rest of the way?" Lauren asked as she listened to the sounds of fighting coming from the other path, relieved for being spared and concerned about the figure coming back later. That was a concern for later though, as they still had the rest of the Labyrinth to navigate through.

"...Hrmm... Bit... dedicated to that whole monster slaying thing..." a man came upon the scene with a curious look, though he was more watching Nox than any other person or monster int he room. There was beauty in this utter brutality to be certain.. but... Man... it was distracting... This raven haired marauder was certainly a sight in these dark horrible tunnels. But he did have a job to do, and whilst the hunter hunters, he shall conduct himself accordingly to what he was hired to do...

A certain elf was his charge today, one who was... rather wealthy. if not in terms of color to his skin.

If Ko was honest, the man could do with abit of a sunbathing session.

Not likely to happen down here, since it was a cold, dark, damp refuse littered hellscape. Would he take this over the swamp he was in sometime ago? he couldn't say, but this place had more dry spots to stand in so.. Why not this one...

"Evening folks." he addressed the people in the area who looked to not be monsters. "I suggest staying away from the woman, shes a warriors heart, but best not test the stray strikes." the wolfman eyed the group up for a moment. "..Tsk I'm no good at this shite.. Just stay back if yer not a warrior." The swordsman kept himself at the ready, aiming to strike down whatever comes his way... And await word from his employer for the moment...

What was his name again...? Surely he should speak up soon right...? He'll introduce himself and...

"Fuck, my name is Ko, don't die and you'll have the privilege of saying you met a Swordmaster." the man roughly introduced himself, hand on his sword and letting Nox deal with the current threats...

No he wasn't staring...

Things went quite hectic for a moment there. The one who was supposed to light the way ahead had her spell backfired on her and the one who probably know the place the most hurt herself trying to hit the creature. If things come to the worst, she would ditch them to save herself but as for now Eeriel simply watched from the sideline and watched things unfold.

Once again, Eerie heard things before she even saw it. This time steps were coming from the other direction, several people were heading their way here. Eeriel's fur stood up and she pressed herself against the corner as the aura of bloodlust filled the corridor they were in, thankfully the woman who wields such aura didn't seems to mind them and simply walked past them to engage with the abominations. Eeriel let out a relieved sigh as she approached the second person who was following the woman. He looks in a much fitting mood to talk than the woman. He introduced himself as Ko, a swordmaster.

"Thanks for the help, I guess. Do you guys come here to get the psychopath who run things here?" She asked the wolfman.

They had barely made a decision on which way to go when the shadows stirred, awful groans and clicks rippling out and followed by tortured shapes. In another situation, when her life wasn't on the line, Kyra would have felt sorrow for them, to be such victims to their captor- but in the moment, she could only feel a heavy, animalistic instinct that propagated out of her gut: fight or flight. Freeze and fawn had been out of the question since the moment that she had woken up, and they certainly hadn't reentered since. If that hadn't been bad enough, she could see herself far too easily in the creatures that stared them down: if she couldn't get out, it would be her own body that was next welded and si=titched to bits of metal to make a walking weapon.

Solaris was quick to put flames between the two groups, and Kyra was grateful to have that barrier between them, and Lauren had enough gumption to even attack one- and Suwa volunteered to be their guide along the dark path. She, her companion, and the cat pressed forward, and Kyra turned to see Solaris and Lauren retreating from their attacks. Neither had been particularly successful, it seemed, but at least they had done something- enough to buy the other two a few moments to press on ahead. At least the redhead was there to greet them, to nod them towards where the others had gone- and to be cut off from whatever she had meant to say bu the entrance of another person, on the far side of the flames, taking on the victims of their captor's cruel experimentations.

A moment later another voice rang throughout the walls of the labyrinth: one instructing them to keep their distance from the person that was attacking their threats. For a moment, Kyra could only gape into the abyss, not quite able to locate the voice that spoke to them in the darkness. "Ko," she said, surprising herself with how steady her voice was, "if you got in here, then there's a way out. Show it to us, would you?" Her words weren't just steady- they were confident, if a bit desperate. After a beat, she continued. "I'm sure we'd all be happy to treat you to a meal or something if we get out of this." That their purses had likely been taken at this point wasn't something the adventurer was considering at the moment- all that mattered was that they might have a path to daylight, to safety, and she would promise away her firstborn if it meant that everyone got out at this point.

Labyrinth of Horrors

1701661665381-png.1128808

A moment of respite was clawed from the jaws of despair. Solaris, her form wreathed in self-inflicted flame, chanted the incantations of healing. The fire, which had been her bane, now became her savior, its magic knitting together the charred sinews and scorched flesh. The pain receded like the tide, leaving in its wake the cruel evidence of its visit—horrible, indelible scars that marred her skin. Yet, within the cradle of her agony, the basic function of her legs was reborn, allowing her to stand once more, albeit marked by the ordeal.

The corridors, now an arena of carnage, echoed with the wrath of Nox. Her blade, a luminous avatar of her fury, danced through the monstrosities with lethal grace. The organic machines, mindless in their pursuit, met their match in her unbridled savagery. Yet, as the fallen lay twitching in their mechanical death throes, more abominations skittered around the corner, their forms a grotesque parody of life, their cacophony a testament to their unnatural existence. Nox, poised on the precipice of being overwhelmed, knew her stand must be relentless, lest she be swallowed by the oncoming tide of mechanical appendages reaching to rip and tare.

In the midst of chaos, Walnut's resolve stood firm as the ancient stone around them. His charge, Lady Suwa, was his unwavering priority. Despite her protests, he persisted, his loyalty a beacon that would not be dimmed by the dark or the needs of others. Yet, the arrival of Ko, a fellow beastman, gave pause to his flight. A silent nod of acknowledgment was given—on beatman protector to another amidst the tempest. Walnut would try to pull Suwa past Ko when..

From the gloaming, a figure emerged, his eyes like twin stars of violet, a herald from the realms of the fae. Malik, with a poise that spoke of otherworldly courts, bid them hold. His voice, though soft, cut through the din—a request to guard their retreat, promising elucidation and guidance.

"Ko, please lead our withdraw. More of those things are coming. I would like to speak with these pour souls a moment."

He would turn from Ko to the party as animalistic howls and the grind of metal could be heard from the many pathways they had just come from to meet up with Lauren's party. Malik spoke of a venture gone awry, of intentions noble now ensnared in the web of this place. His proposal was one of mutual aid; knowledge for a passage from this bedlam.

"My name is Malik Seraphim of the Silver Star Trading Company. My escorts and I were drawn here to look into some cheap land that may prove ideal for my employer. We had expected a ruin but found this very much in use facility instead. Please share what you know with me of this place that I may better understand what is going on. I believe our protection should be able to ensure your safety out of this place."

As alliances were being discussed, the malevolent presence that had haunted the party's every step fell silent. The orchestrator behind it all, whose breath had been like the ticking of a clock toward oblivion, ceased his oppressive grasping and muffled laughter. The quiet, while a relief, was a harbinger—a foreshadowing of something yet to unfold, a prelude to revelations or new dread. For in the heart of the labyrinth, silence had yet to be a reprieve; it was the deep breath before the plunge into depths yet unknown.

  • rescue?

Solaris had been grateful for Lauren's help, she didn't have to when she could've run away and saved herself. As Solaris's healing worked its magic, she would release a sigh of relief as the pain disappeared with the only markings seemingly left behind from that experience being the scars she had received. Now being able to stand on her own, she replies to Lauren.

"I don't believe so, and I thank you for your aid."

She removed Solaris's arms and looked behind them--she wondered who these people were. She could, however, already see that the girl who was killing the monsters was not someone she would want to interfere with. Solaris knew she wouldn't want to get in the woman's way. She listened as Malik introduced himself to the party...out of all the things that would end up being their saving grace was a company that wanted what seemed to be abandoned land. That was pretty telling of what the place seemed to be like though, she replied to the fae.

"I personally do not know much other than we were kidnapped by a madman who seems to have a strong hankering for human experimentation. And in the room where we woke up there was a number of corpses and unfamiliar technology."

Ko Matatsu
210_Okada Izou_4 (1).png

"...Kidnappings and experiments..? What kind of..." Well, he didn't REALLY have to ask that question, it was somebody who would steal people and turn them into monsters that were currently rampaging throughout the area. Somebody who just had to die for... general.. goodness? it was kinda rare to find folks who were just a general benefit to have dead and gone. That whole "Everyone has a place in this world" philosophy was annoying because there was a technical truth. But really, there was no real betterment to this.

He was pretty certain whoever was doing this was turning people into mechanical undead monsters and theres no real way to spin it into a heartfelt story.

"Understood." is all he'd say once ordered, in truth, there wasn't much more than that needed. Clear, simple orders with enough flexibility to get it done.

Kill, and a direction pointed.

Grasping and drawing his twin blades, the wolfman walked back whence they came, straight into the march of whatever comes their way in the dark. Unlike Nox's beautiful savagery i8n the face of monsters, his was a way built from tempered skill and training throughout. No blessings, just training and repetition. But there were many ways to skin a cat, his and hers are but simply ways to swing swords.

Upon meeting his first group, Ko would being his own work, utilizing both blades in a flurry of steel and flesh.

Kill and keep till they can get out, hes almost glad he got the easy job.

"So it's really a complete coincidence that you guys come here, huh." Eeriel nodded at the answer given by the elf who seemed to be the leader of the group. At the very least the arrival of this new group seemed to throw a wrench at the mad scientist's plan.

"Sir Malik Seraphim, I am Eeriel. Your offer is something we will gladly accept." The cat stepped forward and introduced herself as if she was the leader of the kidnapped group. Well, not really, but someone must took the charge of being the spoke person.

"Unfortunately, most of us don't know any better than you do about this place. Fortunately, Lauren over here claimed to have been created in this place, by the same person who made those monsters." Eeriel pointed at the construct girl before returning her vision towards the elf.

"Her memory is a bit hazy for now but I'm sure a few warm drinks will help her remembers some information."

Suwa1703365757606.png"Thank you for saving us," Suwa chimed, "though, I sadly can't tell you anything else other than the madman may have some henchmen working under him, henchmen who look and act normal. One of them met me in the townsquare and led me here under the pretext of housing." Suwa felt bad for being selfish and ignoring Walnut's warning against the henchman, but now was not the time to ruminate on past mistakes. "Hmm... I can't tell you how theyoked, but Walnut saw the henchman, and perhaps he can give other details as well. Walnut?"

As the conversation between their group and their saviours went on, Suwa continued listening to the sounds of battle from across the hall. In that moment, Suwa realized movies were no replacements to real battle. The grinding of sword against flesh, the clangs of metal vs metal, the agile footsteps of each movement, Suwa took in the sounds of the cacophany, taking it all in. She wondered if it'd be even possible to recreate these sounds and feelings in her future performances. For now, she and Walnut would have to focus on getting out of there...

~'Nox'~

1703468690316.png
Nox, a tempest of moonlit fury, stood at the heart of the maelstrom. Her crimson aura burned brighter as each foe fell before her blade, but the relentless tide of abominations threatened to engulf her in a sea of twisted appendages and grotesque limbs. As the next wave approached, Nox's instincts kicked in, and she moved with a dancer's grace and a warrior's precision. Her moonlit katana cleaved through the first monstrosity with a swift stroke, the blade leaving a trail of ethereal light in its wake. The mechanical abomination fell, its disjointed limbs collapsing in a macabre display.

However, there was no time for respite. Nox's movements were a deadly ballet, a dance with death as she navigated the onslaught. The rhythmic clatter of her heels on the cold stone floor became a symphony of war, each step a beat in the chaotic composition of battle. The abominations, driven by a malevolent force, closed in from all sides. Nox's red eyes glinted with a predatory focus as she faced the encroaching horde. Her katana, an extension of her wrath, parried and struck with lethal precision. The moonlit dance continued, a relentless onslaught against the abominations that dared to challenge her.

The flames of Solaris, now a beacon of healing, flickered nearby, casting an eerie glow on the unfolding scene. Nox's berserker rage, a force of nature, carved a path through the grotesque creatures. Each slash of her blade was a testament to her relentless resolve, a defiance against the twisted machinations that sought to snuff out the party's flickering hope.

In the chaotic labyrinth, Nox became a singular point of unyielding resistance. Her movements, guided by an instinctual understanding of the moon's cruel blessing, painted a tapestry of destruction. The abominations, caught in the wake of her fury, crumbled and convulsed, their grotesque forms succumbing to the moonlit storm. But the labyrinth was unforgiving, its corridors echoing with the clatter of machinery and the guttural cries of the abominations. Nox, a lone sentinel, faced the relentless onslaught, her moonlit blade cutting through the darkness like a beacon of defiance. As the others began their retreat, Nox pushed deeper, her natural instinct to wipe out all monsters winning over her logical thinking.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Lauren nodded once Solaris thanked her for the assistance, watching as another figure approached from the shadows. It seemed as if they were with the swordswoman slaughtering the abominations, though for the moment they were gathering information about the madman. The others had pretty much mentioned everything there was to know, though one key detail that hadn't been mentioned to the newcomers was about her being one of the victims experimented on... Though for now that piece of information wasn't useful to them. Before they left though, she made sure to give some advise as well.
"If you run into the mad scientist, be careful. They're fast and sadistic, and they've presumably replaced every part of their body with metal." Lauren warned before turning towards where the newcomers had walked from, slowly walking in that direction as she tried to recall more information about her hosts life. However, this time the rest of her hosts memories came flooding in all at once, quickly rendering her unable to stand as she collapsed onto all fours and tried to bear with the sensory overload. By the time the pain had faded she could now recognize the path they needed to take to leave the labyrinth, slowly getting back up as she looked down to her hands - feeling that the presence of her bodies original owner had now properly passed on to the afterlife. "I... I remember everything that happened to me... over the last 315 years." Lauren quietly muttered to herself, tears streaming down her face as she turned her head to look Solaris in the eyes. "I remember the way out of here... But I wish I hadn't remembered anything."

They weren't done with surprises for the moment yet, it seemed. A regal man stepped forward and addressed Ko, and then the ragtag group of victims. Kyra nodded along eagerly, but still jumped at every battle noise- she should be helping. Why wasn't she helping? Because you'd certainly die. This certainly wasn't anything that she was proud of, but guilt would be something to worry about later. Now, her attention twitched towards every clang, and rather than offer any information, she rather listened as the others filled in their saviors.

They had been kidnapped, woken up in a mess of bodies and technology, and Lauren had been created there. That... Just about summed up what they knew, actually. Most of them were uncertain how they had gotten there, so didn't know where exactly they were, but that was likely self-evident. And besides, from the corner of her eye, Kyra noticed a flick of movement. She turned her head to see Lauren getting up from having fallen, and Kyra quickly made her way over to her. "Hey, hey, are you okay?" The concern in her voice was palpable as she offered a steady hand. "We've got you, alright?" With their newfound guardians on either side, Kyra was starting to feel the weight of it all fresh again; but those feelings would have to be pushed aside for a bit longer, until they saw daylight again.

Labyrinth of Horrors

1702870102932-png.1131926

Ko Matatsu's twin blades were a whirlwind of precision and resolve, slicing through the dwindling ranks of mechanical creatures that lay in his path. Unlike the dense throng that Nox faced, these adversaries were fewer and more dispersed, their grotesque forms staggering and faltering under his relentless assault. The air was filled with the scent of scorched metal and the sound of rending steel as Ko carved a path through the opposition, his movements a disciplined in the way of his style. With each enemy felled, the path forward became clearer, beckoning the group to follow his lead towards a semblance of safety.

Meanwhile, Nox, enveloped in the heat of her battle, faced a ceaseless onslaught of mechanical monstrosities. Her blade cut a swath through the horde, of those not fallen by the aura, with each arcing slash and piercing thrust. But as the moments passed, the adversaries' numbers began to wane, their attacks becoming less coordinated, less fervent. Then, gradually, an eerie quiet settled over the tunnel. The last of the abominations collapsed, its twisted limbs ceasing their twitching as the echo of battle faded into a profound silence. Nox stood amidst the carnage, her breathing heavy, her senses alert to the uncanny stillness that now pervaded the passageway.

In the midst of their brief respite, Walnut shared his knowledge of humanoid constructs like Lauren that had convinced him, Lady Suwa, and others to go with them into the wilderness from a town in the region. Once away from possible witnesses, he and the rest were forcefully captured by the creatures when they seemingly changed into the violent things in the labyrinth. He relayed the information with a heat that left the target of his anger unclear: the creatures like Lauren? Or himself?

Malik Seraphim listened intently, his eyes occasionally drifting towards Lauren with a mixture of gratitude and wariness. Despite acknowledging everyone's contribution, he remained hesitant to fully trust Lauren's guidance. Instead, he suggested a cautious retreat through the path they had entered, which lay not far from their current position. His demeanor was calm yet resolute, a man accustomed to navigating the treacherous and the unknown. Ko's efficiency and Nox's seemingly finished task made the traveling all the more simple and with danger greatly reduced.

As the group neared the exit Malik had spoken of, which he explained was just a hole in the wall they made themselves, a sudden cessation in the creatures' assault left them in an unsettling quiet. The brief hope of escape that had flickered in their hearts was abruptly snuffed out as a large construct appeared before Nox at the rear of the tunnel. It was a horrific amalgamation of wires and metal plating, its presence exuding a tangible aura of madness and violence. With a scream that tore through the silence, the mad scientist lunged towards Nox, driven by a sadistic and unyielding will. The moment was electric, fraught with peril as the group realized that this was not an adversary to be underestimated or delayed. Unlike the other creatures in the tunnels, this one seemed unaffected by the aura of Nox's fighting style or slow to act. Its intelligence was clear in each thrust of its hands, pointed fingers together like a spear tip. (B grade attack to Nox) This was a fight for survival against an enemy that embodied the very essence of the twisted labyrinth they sought to escape.

  • oh shi-

As the group went through the labyrinth, Solaris felt a bit of suspicion towards Malik. She understood that he had allegedly come here to handle abandoned land. And just so happened to have two fighters, but then she became a bit worried...not that it showed on her face. Perhaps they could had been too trusting at that point. Solaris was only hoping the fighters and the business person were a blessing in disguise instead of their kidnappers' henchmen. This worry would soon be put at ease when they eventually bumped into the monster who had held everyone captive, experimented on people and was a embodiment of insanity in the eyes of the healer, who strived to learn to make people better when ill, or aid in the healing of any major injury. The thing was so terrifying, so much, so she felt Lauren's description of it hadn't been put to justice. The thought that came to mind. Was it the mad scientist? Did it do that to itself or was it another creation taking the mad scientists' place? Regardless, as it attacked at Nox, Solaris would jump in front of Lauren. If it was anyone who would end up its target out of the group, she figured it would be the fae girl. And Solaris owed her. She got into a defensive position with her left paw under her catalyst as she held the other paw up. Preparing to shoot a fireball if the worst happened.

TRAVERSING SOMEWHERE

Lauren gladly accepted the help that Kyra lent her in getting back up, leaning on her as her legs were still trembling slightly from the second-hand trauma remembering Lilan's memories. While she could now clearly remember all of the memories that had been hazy, the answers she had sought to aid their escape left her with more questions that would likely never be addressed... The biggest question to her now was simple: Why? Why steal the corpses of dead soldiers and their victims? Why blame the East Empire for his own actions? Why would he forsake his most precious memories along with his humanity for the cold grasp of immortality? She wiped away the tears in her eyes as they approached the exit, her gaze turning back to look at Malik. His expression towards her was warranted to a degree, as even she didn't know whether or not she was truly in control of this body or not... Though the weariness still was a little upsetting. She turned her gaze back to the path ahead, ready to escape this nightmare and explore the world.

Though fate seemed to have something different in mind.

Upon the Mad Scientists arrival her entire body instantly froze, paralyzed with fear as she desperately held onto Kyra to keep herself on her feet. Despite his menacing appearance though, her fear came from knowing that they weren't the same person her host had known for so long. Her awareness of everyone else around her seemed to fade into a haze as her eyes looked past Solaris into where the madman's eyes would be, devoid of life and any semblance of emotion other than hatred. Pure, unbridled hatred. For those who had tried to convince the madman into letting Lilan rest in peace, and especially those of the East Empire who supported the war that had cost Lilan both of her legs and an arm. There was no turning back the clock to fix this, though at least both of them could have some closure.
"...Eins..." Lauren mumbled quietly, tears quickly flowing down her cheeks while she struggled to keep herself composed. She anxiously watched as he engaged in a fight against Nox, unsure as to who would survive another day. And despite the strength the vampire had shown against all of the other abominations, she had her doubts about them beating the madman... Of ending the husk that once was her hosts lover. While she had her doubts about whether or not the madman even remembered their past, perhaps catching the madman's attention for a brief moment would give Nox the chance they needed to end the fight quickly. After a quick tap of her foot on the floor to try and catch his glance, she started mouthing words in hopes that he remembered how to read lips.

Sorry to have kept you waiting, but... Lilan's already departed from this life. My condolences for your loss...
