A low fantasy nobility / political RP, where you play as court officials and warrior nobles in a turbulent realm.

Feel free to ask any questions about lore, setup, character ideas, etc.!

There is information about the different Kingdoms here, but the RP would focus on characters from Carmondy and Fyrdos.

In a world of fear and feudalism...

King Agbert II of Carmondy is dead, his head unseamed by a lowly foot soldier's axe at the Battle of Merlions. His legacy, a long, bloody string of conflicts over land - both within and without his kingdom - is far from over. His son and heir, Edmund Hiberion, is a good-natured lad, but weak-willed. The barons are bankrupt and humiliated after prosecuting such a disastrous war for so many years, only to lose their overseas estates. Agbert and his father had worked to establish a strong, royal administration, and had gradually increased the power of the crown over the years, often at the expense of the nobles... but it required an iron hand to maintain, which Edmund does not have. The political landscape is now rife with treachery and rebellion.

Meanwhile to the north, within the Kingdom of Fyrdos - one of Carmondy's puppet realms - dissension brews. Carmondy is fracturing, and many Fyrdians yearn to throw off the yoke of their oppressors to the south. Yet, with so many nobles owning lands in Carmondy, as well as being connected with them through alliances of marriage, their loyalties are thrown into question.

You are the head of a noble family, on either side of the border, caught in this mess.

People believe in all sorts of superstitions and folk magic, but proper sorcery is illegal and considered heretical by the Holy Temple.
Aha. Are there any supernatural elements that are 'openly' present? magic swords or something alike that, or holy prayer effects.

IC-wise, people take religion very seriously, though the effects of prayers/blessings aren't actually tangible. Enchanted/cursed items and locations do exist, though - as do monsters.

What is the predominant religion or religions in the region, exactly, and what are their doctrines?

Plus, what kind of power do enchanted/cursed items have? I'm guessing nothing like, say, Shardplate or Shardblades from the Stormlight archives, but are we talking like.... Durendal cutting through cliffs and castle walls, or a Valyrian steel sword?

The predominant religion is the Holy Temple of Paragon Emmortal, who is held to be the one true God. Though, his wife Empyra is also worshiped to a lesser extent. The religion was formed during the waning days of the Old Kingdom - which was basically just a debauched empire ruled by sorcerers practicing human sacrifice, and using magic to alter people, animals, and objects to their will. This collection of sorcerer orders was known as the Consortium. Empyria was the matron deity of the only sorcerer cult (an order of healers) to switch sides and betray the Consortium. Happened because sorcerers decided to sacrifice Miria, the daughter of the mistress of the order.

Lore from an old thread below.

Ah, so no starting with any special items huh, lmao.

How... realistic is this world, in terms of character capabilities? Like can a guy who can defeat five guys at once exist, or someone obscenely intelligent? Or is it all bounded to strictly realistic-earth level capabilities?

I keep things relatively realistic!

Since the players belong to the upper echelon of nobility, they have access to the best horses, armor, weapons, and training that money can buy. Fighting five foot soldiers at once might be a possibility (or not, see Agbert II) but definitely not five knights/men-at-arms, in all likelihood. Players get SOME license versus NPCs, but that doesn't mean they get to act stupid.

Long has Fyrdos lived in the shadow of his Southern neighbor. Long has it's people suffered under the rule of petty kings who have never stepped foot in her lands, under the watch of sycophants and cowards, too busy filling their gullets with stolen wealth to care for those beneath them.

But this time has come to an end. The highlands will run red with the blood of traitors, and they will at last reap what they have so carelessly sewn.

Gonna be playing a Fyrdos noble!

Considering playing the game's equivalent of the Mountain from ASOAIF, except he's scarily intelligent and has other priorities than just "being big brute who loves to hurt people", along with some modicum of honor.

Do you guys have any preference on whether the RP takes place all on a single thread, or a series of 1x1 threads? An honor system would be required, either way - no peeking on another person's 1x1 thread, or else no reading spoilered actions on a group one.

Btw, any other interested parties interested in any particular side?

Dyrnwald may be fun for me, as for the thread thing I'm partial to a single thread as opposed to spread out to multiple 1x1. But that is my preference.

group thread imo

edit: unless that'd get super messy

Bump. Assume you guys are ready for character sheets, yeah? Will probably be doing a group thread for once.
