Fujin no Sato - The Village Hidden in the Valley
It's a new year for Fujin no Sato. The current Daimyo, Lord Kanemasa, rules for his 25th year, and it has now been 20 years since the Great War ceased. Though concern runs among the villagers, for production is strangely slow this year, joy is king among the children. Results from the latest academy classes have been posted, and this year, new Genin and Soldiers for the Samurai will be trained. A lot of children want neither lifestyle, and to not be selected is, for them, a pleasure, too.
The village looks the same as it always does when a new year begins: rainy and hot. The air feels trapped in the short distances between the houses, built alongside the Valley, stretching from it's very bottom to the top. The Samurai train at the lower levels; and, at this time of year, new recruits are eager to prove their worth. It's common to see the young teens mountain climbing the Valley, all while chanting traditional Samurai songs and huffing of exhaustion, a practice they took from Shinobi. Nowadays, the ninjas are quiet; reserved, overlooking the Village from their great dojo.
However, among the houses, talk is not very happy. For some reason, the fishing hasn't been as great as before, and the wood extraction doesn't seem to be any better. The common folk grow concerned, and the air is weary anywhere besides the military structures. The Master of Trade has been strangely quiet on the situation, and people are concerned. This is supposed to be a time of great harvest, but it seems as though no one is buying. Even worse, no one from other continents are purchasing Fujin no Sato's goods.
C Rank Mission - Missing Sailors
Newly-turned-Jounin Morgan Odo takes a keen interest in a job posted at the Shinobi Dojo's notice board. It seems like something the Master of Trade should be very concerned about, but it wasn't he to post it -- it was just a simple, villager woman. "Missing Sailors", reads the job description. Morgan wasn't in the mood for working that day: the job was only C rank, and he was quite proud of becoming a Jounin. His climb to the rank was very noteworthy and fast, and his skill was tremendously praised. He could do better than that. But, that day, they were also instructing a whole new batch of Genin to the academy, and the only thing worse than being stuck in his Jounin outfit in this god-awful heat, was to do it all while listening to children screaming and celebrating. They were showing off their simple jutsu and skills -- at the end of the day, most of them useless against the type of enemy Shinobi face. Most of you will die before even becoming Chuunin, he thought to himself.
Still, he was now a Jounin, and it was his responsibility to take a group of Genin under his wings. So, he walks towards them and reads out loud the job announcement: "My husband has been gone for four months since he left on his trading route. He claimed his friends were also missing before going himself. I'm scared and I miss him. Will give everything for this to be solved.". He looks over the piece of paper, and , amidst the 15 or so kids, 10 eagerly present themselves ready to go. While the Jounin that was instructing them, Kuze Yashiro, yells at the 5 who didn't even show interest, Morgan picks 6 of the 10 kids that stood up. At least he could test them -- see who he would like to train in the future.
The Jounin gets in the cable-car that crosses the whole Village with the 6 kids, heading towards the Northern Entrance, the biggest dock in the Valley. That's where most ships come and go, and most likely where the job-posters husband docked his own cargo. Morgan is only able to grasp the name of each of the Genin: Itsuki Amagawa / Nil Odo / Takeshi Hanada / Raiden Kensei / Aya Mutsumi / Kama Unboko, before all hell breaks loose. They seemed to know each other, and they were bragging, laughing and fighting. Morgan kept to himself, staring at the Valley through the cable car's window.
[ The cable-car stops, and they all set foot in the Northern Dock. It's around 2 PM, and it is insufferably hot. ]
