Fantasy uncharted land

Magi thought that it was time to try her lock. She placed her hand on the beast's arm and looked up into his eyes innocently but with charm of a witch. "You don't believe me? The woods are full of animals... they make sounds... and how should I know why... if you don't believe me... I can do nothing..." She faced down again as her shoulders trembled due to crying. "I didn't want to push this cart... I didn't want to come here... I had my family... my village... they are gone... " she covered her face with her hands, crying harder. "Go ahead and kill me. I prefer to be dead than a slave to whom murdered my brethren..." That was all the act she had got in addition to the charm she had used by eye contact. She could only pray in heart that she could pass without trouble.

"No no" said the buffaloman Putting his relatively large fingers on her chin "Just push the cart, your master sounds like a cruel man, it's your only purpose now and I hate to deprive one of their destiny, I'll bother you no longer"

Magi wiped her tears and smiled. "thank you, mister. You are so kind!" She said and kept going thanking her God for protecting her. She passed the gate like that and she pushed them into a dark ally then knocked on the barrels. "Come out boys." She whispered to the barrels.

The Buffalo border town
Stefan got up out of the water barrels soaking as well as gasping for air. The town was elaborately constructed of stone and clay, The roads and walls were made of baked ceramic. The entire town was encased in a wall as it was a walled town with divine inscriptions in the buffalo writing system on the respective walls that serve as the town limits. The town had various districts that was home to the different social castes of buffalo from the peasents to the lord's and other elites who lived in extravagant palaces in the town center. Mitra and company just happened to be near the peasent's quarters surrounded by simple stone buildings with thatched rooves.

Magi observed the town still hiding behind a wall then sighed. "It's bigger than I thought... I can't believe beasts as built it." She said then looked back at Stefan. "Your cities must be better than this, right?" She asked, expecting more from wizards of overseas.

"yes" answered Stefan in astonishment "Some cities are even grander than this while others are almost exactly like this, although back in my homeland none of our cities are in walls"

"That sounds more attractive... without a wall..." Magi said. "We have been lucky so far. It it gets trickier from here. First we need to know about mage's location." She hopefully looked at Stefan. "Do you know invisibility or camouflage spells? You can use your staff for that. And I'm going to ask wolf's spirit to guide my nose to trace smell of other women who have been brought to the town."

"I do" said Stefan before quitly chanting the following Sigil "O divinum est, Camoflauge me fac me sicut aer qui circum me." while sending in the energy of the air into it's gemstone hoping it would make him invisible.

"Cool!" Ben said as Stefan disappeared into thin air. "Can you help me too?" He asked. "Please... I don't want to wear a sheep skin to cover my identity!" He almost begged the spell caster.

Ben would feel an invisible hand and hear Sefan saing "I'm grabbing your hand, feel around for my palm so my energy can travel into you."

"Ok..." Ben said and held Stefan's hand. "Man, it feels weird..." He said as his body disappeared. "I hope nothing happens that separates us..." She wished nervously. Magi whispered distraction spell on herself and they left to the main street. She sniffed the air and guided them through peasant area to somewhere near the market were slaves were kept. She asked guys to stay behind and approached the crowd of squaws cautiously to speak to one of them. "Pst... do you know where your mage is being kept?" She asked in low tone.

"I don't know" whispered one of the squahs "I haven't been auctioned yet so I don't know." The line of chained squah's we're going into an elegantly carved clay building with the words "Apehi auction house" scrawled over the wooden door in the buffalo writing script.

Magi asked the girl about mage's name and went back to her companions. "I need you to go to the beast as the door of auction house and have a peek at his list. See if the mage has been sold and to whom. Her/His name is..." She said while looking down to avoid receiving attention.

"That's bad..." Magi said and thought for a moment. "Let's hide somewhere..." She whispered and they found a dark empty storage behind the market street. "Let's switch places. Ben stays here while I go with Stefan to read the list." She suggested.

"No!" Magi said. "I want to use my talent as a witch. People with gift like mediums, mages, witches... can recognize what belongs to another magical or holly being. I thought you could do that but maybe spell casters and wizards can't do this whiteout training. In a list of names I can say which is for a mage even if I can't read it. I just want to see how it is. Maybe they just tick those who have been sold... maybe we can recognize symbols... like family symbols." She explained.

"I know, it's no good... but I can't think of anything better..." She said and took a deep breath then called for another spirit. "O' chameleon... with all your colors..." She chanted the spell and her body and clothes became the same color as the wall. Then she tapped on Ben's forehead and the same thing happened to him. "It's not enough but helps you hide better." She told him then held Stefan's hand. "Please make me invisible. I have to get too close to that list."

Stefan would look down at the vague outline that was Magi's hand and led her over to the list as a couple of leather tunic wearing buffalo men clopped right past them on their way into the auction house as a herd of buffalo people were congregating in this same room, buying their copper bid tokens with large bundles of wampum slung around each of their shoulders. The list contained a list of names and numbers in the buffalo numerals and text. Some names had a small pictogram of an egg while others had a pictogram of a stick accompanied by a white star.

Magi pressed Stefan's hand in her palm showing that they had to go back to Ben. Once there, she let go of his hand and shook her head. "There are more than one mage among them. Maybe one of them is a mage and the rest are witches... I don't know their names... but some of them are not sold yet. I saw them in the line as we passed by. They were a girl and a woman. Should we take them out secretly now or should we wait and watch the auction instead? I'm so confused... " She said helplessly as ran her fingers through her hair.

"Hm" said Stefan looking around the room "The door is closed meaning that the auction hasn't started yet and people wil notice two people missing from the listed lot"

"Hasn't started yet?" Magi asked then grinned widely. "Why didn't you mention it sooner? We don't need that crappy list... all of them are inside that building yet... we only have wait for them to bring people out..." She said then suddenly lost her enthusiasm. "But what can we do after finding them." She asked hopelessly.
"We'll do something..." Ben said to encourage Magi. "To start... I can use this camouflage you've given me to hide on top of one of highest buildings and see were they take each of mages or witches. Then we can help them flee from houses." He said. It was the first time he was suggesting a real plan.

After a few minutes the door opens up and the buffalo man escorts the captive humans into the auction hall. One after another the chain of humans was escorted into a room with a 40ft high ceiling and large archways to let sunlight in. Eventually, they were all in the auction hall as herds of bidders piled into the seats. The stock was escorted out the back towards what looked like low, but long shack capable of storing up to 100 potential slaves. They were divided up into wooden slots as each one of them were unchained as a couple of the slavehandlers began applying natural dyes to their cheeks and eyelids to get them to look more docile. They did this to both male and female stock and each one was of a unique pattern to one another as a twisted version of a maker's mark.

"Disgusting... I wish I had the power to call for thunder bolts striking down upon these filthy beasts..." Magi growled under breath. She was on top of a shorter building to observe the auction better. They waited and waited till it came to number 47 who was a middle aged woman. Magi waved at Ben and when the woman was sold, Ben chased their path with eyes. She was taken to the largest manor of the city. The same thing happened for number 83 and 204. They were talented girls who were taken to different houses in luxury area of the city. When the auction was done the sun was about to set. The small team of saviors gathered at the same storehouse.
"I've almost made a simple map of their locations." Ben said and passed the paper to magi. "It's grate..." Magi said and pointed at the largest building. "I guess they know about mage's power that why the strongest household has taken her. Now... do we have a plan to go there and save her?" She asked excitedly.
