Gambler.JPGAs Liam tightened, he could feel what felt like bones snap under the pressure, but one thing he wouldn’t feel: a heartbeat.

When another cell bar was flung at their head, it just kept phasing through, causing them to laugh, despite the squeeze. White oozed around their mouth. “This one doesn’t learn!

Some of the creatures that stayed behind and didn’t chase after Jane, Pozou and Tammond hissed and faced Liam, now-acidic saliva dripping before lunging for his torso, looking to climb up his body toward his face.

Aedzel Phriln

Aedzel obeyed Valentine's instruction. She really didn't know what to do, she was useless in combat and even if she wanted to run away by herself there were too much of the disgusting abomination that had her frozen in her spot.

She watched as Freya tried to deal with the Jester and the horror on her face to what she had seen. "Freya..." Was all she could say as the woman dangled holding her axe. "NO!" She blurted, closing her eyes and hearing the loud crack that seemed to seep and stay in her mind for more than a second. Even if she didn't know Freya that well, her death was something that pained Aedzel still.

Her ears perked up when she heard scuttling their way, a few had gone to her with their six legs that made her hair stand. She knew that Valentine had a lot more to deal with on his own end and so she let out a scream and brought forth the strongest kick she could muster and sending the shadow creatures back a few steps.

Aedzel heard Helena's scream and her attention shifted to the kid. The tip of the spear was already pierced to the Jester and yet still they held on. When Jester had grabbed onto the trident that was when the Quetzola started to run, if what happened to Freya was anything to look back to, they might just do the same to Roland.

With swift steps, Aedzel charged towards Roland and held the kid tight as she unfurled her wings and flew away and landed to Helena. If there was anything Aedzel prioritized before herself... it was children. "Valentine! Let's go!" She yelled to him, desperate to go as they don't actually know who or what they where dealing with.

Tears continued to fall down Gwendolyn’s cheeks as stones floated towards her. “A ladder wouldn’t work. We have a body to carry and need to assist Calicus on the way up as well.” She said softly, as the staircase became taller. It was now a few meters above her head and she could feel her magic energy draining with every rock that was placed. The trauma of Freya’s death had taken a toll on her abilities and she let out a small huff. She took a glance at Celestine and saw that her speed had been reduced as well. Lorrin’s words made her frown and she momentarily stopped her building. “Do not rush me like you rushed into pissing off the demon. If it weren’t for your irrationality, Freya wouldn’t be dead. So please, let us mages do our work in peace. We’re going as fast as we can.” She snapped, never taking her eyes off the staircase.

Rage began building up inside her and she put the energy towards the stones. With every few rocks, she crushed them together to make them as stable as possible. The thoughts of reaching the surface, avenging Freya’s death, and seeing Leóne once again revived her motivation. Soon, the stairs reached halfway to the hole and she let out a sigh. “We must start climbing and build as we go.” She said, putting her foot on the first step. Testing the stone with the full weight of her body, small cracks spread outward from her feet. She continued up the stairs, bringing her lumen spell with her. The build was stable and they would be able to escape the cavern with ease. Reaching the end of their construction, she moved to the side to allow room for Obsidian and Celestine to work alongside her.

Obsidian said nothing. How could words express her sorrow? Her failure? She was useless in healing, but even with Gwendolyn’s skill, she knew that Freya could never be brought back. Her family. Obsidian remembered the joy they spoke of their clan. Her love had made the golem wish for her own family. She had never asked for their names. For stories about raising them. Were any mischievous? Or were they as reliable as Freya? Did they take after Bjorn’s large size?

Obsidian was surprised that her face was wet. Did her creator build her to cry? Was she grateful to show this pain? Or did she wish that she could blend in with the stone around her? When she sensed Gwendolyn’s magic, she pushed everything down. She was made to serve. She still had to, even with her failure. Reaching down, she kicked off her shoes, using the strands to tie them to her waist. The ground was rough against her feet, likely to bleed if she moved too fast, but the skin contact would enhance her magic. Wordlessly, she climbed the stairs Gwendolyn carved, pouring her magic into it. She worked quickly, her focus solely on the earth. Automatically, she began to turn the curve inward, allowing the steps to spiral. She only registered others when she felt their magic join hers. Otherwise, she worked, pouring herself completely to her task.

Leone crouched down and scrunched his forehead, reading the short message several times. "Abyss?" He scratched his chin and stood with a shrug. "Not sure what that means Nezumi, the abyss is hundreds of feet down." He shook his head before pacing the room, examining the weathered walls.

"No way out, guess we have to wait for them to leave... and here I was hoping to be back in time for drinks. Gwen's gonna break my kneecaps at this rate." Leone leaned on the prayer stand, crossing arms as the others eavesdropped. "Anything interesting?" He mused, standing straight when a rumble reverberated through the room.

"Hmm?" Leone narrowed his eyes and approached the door, pressing an ear against the wood, grimacing when another rumble shook his bones. "That doesn't sound human..." He clenched his hands and curiously cracked open the door, peering through with a muted gasp.

"Am I the only one seeing this?" He whispered, pursing his mouth when a fucking dragon slashed an old mage. "Dragons aren't... why is Kiel?" He cleared his throat as the preposterous scene continued, then slowly closed the door with a rusty squeak, keeping quiet as he looked between the others. "Kiel is with us so I guess the monster is too? I don't know what the fuck is happening, but with his help the mages shouldn't be a problem."

Hubyr

Hubyr.jpgWhen the fiery kid claimed the thuds to probably be a dog, he raised a brow, his voice gruff, “That’s one giant-ass dog.

As Luna walked away to stand with the church, Hubyr shook his head, “You talk as if you’re dying!

Following Sigurd's movements, Hubyr stood on her other side, setting his stance with his fists raised, muscles flexing. “What Sigurd said!

Then, the monster came into view, being ridden by a human. A beast was a beast, and that beast swung claws with intent to kill. He jumped back specifically to avoid them, just barely avoiding a claw to the chest.

The guy on the monster called them friends?

If we’re friends, call off your damn beast!

Myth or not, it needed to go down.

A rush of air blew past Hubyr, towards the beast, but he was unable to determine what that could have come from.

To prepare further, he let a magic flow through his body, specifically to enhance his own strength, evident by his muscles bulging ever so slightly more than they already did.

A dumb hunter would attack before the beast had a chance, a smart one would need to play it by ear and figure out what it’s capabilities were so there were no surprises. At least, that’s how Hubyr’s mindset lay.

Vaaltari of Jata

Vaal had been listening as best he could to the conversation overall since the elf and his companions were confronted by the group. Using his eyes, his gift of sight beyond solids, he watched the figures that approached, only to find them unrecognizable. Approaching the door the Matugna pushed upon it slightly to listen. The conversation as a whole between Hubyr and others was lost on to him entirely in detail aside from the fact they had been fleeing the Inquisition and that this Luna was actually a former ally of the group. Vaaltari didn't get it, not in its entirety- but what he did understand was the obvious division in the group's decision.

Too bad he felt no need to jump in and help. Whatever the group's aims had been, whatever reason Hubyr had been looking for to find Ayana, it seemed they would have to talk their way out of this situation first. While Vaaltari felt for Luna, he was in no haste to expose himself or the others by extension to danger at the hands of three mages who seemed to talk of warding as if it were a simple task, which judging by appearances alone- perhaps it was a simple task. For them.

It was the squeak that drew his attention away from the situation with the mages. He had forgotten about Nezumi again, but seeing the familiar bonded to Kuma in a frenzy, gnawing at the ground made Vaaltari move away from the door and narrow his eyes behind his mask. A...bys5? Abyss...

Abyss? Leone's comment did not clarify much of anything and Vaaltari found the cryptic message odd.

"What do you mean, little one?" he asked. Hoping for clarity. Of course he wouldn't get that it seemed because then Leone's surprise caught his attention. At mention of Kiel and something else Vaaltari moved nearby to peer outside the door and what he saw made him jump away in alarm.

"What!?! He said in alarm. "No!"

Demon! Here? Why?! The Matugna could not believe this. Two years here and he had heard little word of the Wanderers Of the Beyond in these parts. He did not think they would be of trouble like home, clearly he had been wrong. Was that what these wards were for? To defend the weak? He couldn't believe it had Kiel. And that thing taking the form of a sacred beast. Despicable! Clearly Leone knew nothing of these demons else the words he were saying would not have been so full of naivety.

Pulling out his blades from within his hidden sheaths, Vaaltari moved towards the exit, aiming to confront this demonic entity that had now confronted the group outside. If successful, he'd mad dash- pour the speed on. He didn't care if the mages saw him or if this creature was aiming for them. He needed to kill it. Kill it swiftly.

"Kill it quickly, kill it fast. Chop the head, show my wrath!" he muttered the old lyrics. An ancient song of reminder that to truly kill these beasts he needed to thoroughly chop it down. Butcher it like meat ready to be cooked. Charging with his two blades out. Ready to slice and dice at the creature that Kiel sat on.

Everybody Wants To Rule The World || Helena's CS File

The battle was one made all the harder by the lack of light, the unpredictability of the things that appeared, and by the fact that they were on a cliff. Whatever was leading this hellish town into whatever twisted mirror world it’d become was unknown. It almost would be preferable if they never found out, she just needed to get as many of the Caravaan as she could to meet up so they could get the fuck out of here. So of course with these factors in play she couldn’t help but wonder if they could even all escape or if this would be the end of them.

For one of them, it was.

She had no time to mourn. People died, it was simply the way of the battlefield. Still, she hadn’t lost someone in so so long. She rose from her position slashing down the rats as they came for her. Freya’s last shout, to run, she would have. She swore she would have, but then Kuma spoke. She understood the woman, they could be picked down if they ran, but the idea that they ever had even ground had already left her mind. She would have left them. If they wanted to stay and fight a losing battle, well she was a Cleric not a miracle worker.

She heard a familiar sob and felt her body ice over. Of course he knew. She might have been familiar with the sound but Roland’s senses were so much sharper than her own. She tried to get to his side, kicking at the pests that continued their assault. He was just frozen.

    And then he wasn’t.

    “Ro-ro”

He wasn’t responding at all to her voice.

    don’t

    He ran at the figure.

    “ROLAND!”

She felt terror as she ran forwards tripping as her dress caught upon the uneven grounds. She stood quickly and ripped the bottom clear off leaving it to her knees. The horror in her eyes eased as the Quetocotyl woman, Aedzal, shot forwards and grabbed Roland saving him from his death.

She grabbed him by his cheeks, crying before pulling him to her chest to hug him.

“You’re safe, gods you're safe. Thank you Aedzal. Thank you

But there was little time as she realized. She let go abruptly and grabbed Roland tight by the hand. They wouldn’t stay any longer.

    “KUMA LET’S GO”

She raised a dagger with her right hand as she clutched Roland’s with her left. She would only fight as much as it would take to retreat. While she’d liked the woman so far, could probably even count her among the people she’d gained a modicum of trust in, she wouldn’t take any more risks without more information. As it stands they had none, this town was far above her own understanding.

Yo and Stone

GStone.jpgInstead of eavesdropping, Stone took to investigating the room alongside Leone, peaking around coffins and walls, looking for anything that could prove useful in their situation… Particularly, an escape route would be great right about now.

Feeling like a caged cat, Stone was pacing, back and forth, along the length of the room. Slowly, his fur was starting to stand on end, his ears folding back, whiskers twitching. For his own personal reasons, being someplace with just one exit wasn’t something he was pleased about. It didn’t take long for him to start tugging at a coffin to see if there were any escape routes behind it.

Yo looked on with concern at Stone, but she could offer no words. Being as close to the door, she was afraid that if she said anything that the church would notice her. There was a voice she recognized, and that made her heart race and sweat start to bead on her head, despite the chilly air that was a springtime underground.

The woman from Whaleshale port.

Her eyes quickly darted to Leone, wondering if he heard her. She brought her hand up to her chest, almost feeling her beat under her hand.

How’d she get here so fast?

Did that mean the other Master Mages were close on their heels!? Truly, a concern. Especially if Ayana’s father was in their line of sights now, too. While Yo may not be fond of her parents at this point in time, she still would never wish anything terrible upon them.

Yo by Nona.jpgThe thud, and the deep, guttural growl stopped Yo’s thoughts and Stone’s increasingly-panicked pacing. Yo sucked in her breath, listening through the door.

Stone slipped out his sharp knuckles as focused, but frantic squeaks took his attention momentarily. Green eyes took in the pet rat writing in the dirt.

Abyss.

Stone took a breath to calm himself down. He recalled the rat running off on her own at some point, but he wondered how much a prey animal could really understand. What if they saw danger in every single thing they didn’t inherently understand or feel was familiar? There was no time to wonder about the intelligence of a small creature as Kiel’s voice cut through the air.

When Leone went to peek through the door, Yo also looked through What she saw made her heart drop. She tried backing up, startled, but Vaaltari’s body stopped her from doing so. Her first thought was terror. Dragons weren’t thought to look… demonic like that. They were noble, majestic beings! Gods of the West! The dragon wasted no time even swinging a claw out.

No no no.

Yo refused to believe it was a dragon. They were no longer with them, extinct.

For Stone, who also went to look, something seemed to click in his mind. Something made sense to him, and he knew what he had to do, and that goal was in line with Vaaltari’s.

Then, the door was suddenly fully open, exposing them all to the others.

Vaaltari and Stone, gone in a flash.

The Catfolk had activated his ability to make himself undetectable, invisible, a way to surprise the beast if it was distracted by something else.

Yo was left standing there in the doorway, struggling what to do. Kiel was with the monster, while the church was on the other end. Though, it looked like Stone and Vaaltari were aiming after the demonic being that Kiel sat upon.

It was all so confused for the Dragonfolk woman. A sheen of magic danced across her scales and horns as she activated her blunt defense so she had two protections… Though, she worried how much they really would stop the power of a beast that had put wounds on an inferred Master of the Church.

Even though she was terrified, she couldn’t bring herself to sit on the sidelines even more. The boar from the woods knocked her out and she had to be rescued. Whaleshale Port was a disaster and a half.

Out she stepped from the doorway, stepping in front of the mages with her arms outstretched. Her voice quivered, but she tried to hold strong, “Those who have ranged attacks, stay behind me!” No hiding from that woman anymore. Then, she looked forward, "Kiel! What is going on!?"

Daisy didn't know if it was because it couldn't or chose not to phase through Liam, but the creature was bound in the snake mans coils. Good. It hadn't broken through the shards of stone that Daisy had punched in its legs, either. Despite all that, however, it seem less than phased despite the white fluid dripping from its mouth.

A swarm of the little shadow creatures leapt at Liam, and Daisy's heart leapt. She lashed out with her spear, slicing into them in the hope that they wouldn't reach Liam, the one binding the shadow being in place. Daisy hit them all with wide, sweeping strikes, looking less to maim or kill, as she didn't know if these things could be killed, and more to knock them away and into a wall, or to disperse them if they were truly only made of shadows.

"Crush it if you can, Liam!" Daisy said, "I'll keep the creatures off of you! Kadar or whatever your name is, kill it!" She didn't know Kadar's combat capabilities and would have preferred to attempt to strike a killing blow herself, but she had seen the way Kadar had looked at the snake man, and the lack of care he struck with when the shadow creature moved part of Liam in the way. Daisy didn't think he cared to protect Liam. So she would do that job. She only hoped the others would be ok. There was only so much she could do at one time. keeping away the
creatures and using her magic to fortify the stone embedded in the creatures legs so he couldn't break free was a bit too much to do while also chasing down the other creatures menacing Jane, Pozou and Tammond.

She could feel their movement through her earth sense, but there wasn't much she could do unless she wanted to divide her attention. And whatever this thing was, however trapped it seemed to be, she didn't think dividing her attention was a good idea. So she simply lashed out at the shadowlings, her spear a comfortable weight in her hands. She fought as she had been taught to, her spear, heavier than she was used to, nevertheless fast and controlled, cutting through the air with a 'whoosh', each strike precise and calculated.

Ayana impassively watched for monsters, but her hands shook and clenched around her bow. Her heart pounded below her chestplate, and she stared into the tunnel's maw, embracing the darkness. Her trance only ended when the others argued, casting a frown across her face.

"We're all to blame so stop fighting!" She spun around, lowering her bow as her mouth quivered. "If we didn't go to that stupid tour, to this stupid place.... just stop fighting, she wouldn't want this!" Ayana shook her head and approached the corpse, pebbles crunching underfoot.

"We can't leave her." She crouched and grasped Freya's forearm, heaving forward with the corpse scraping behind her. "We can't... not here!" Ayana desperately pulled and panted, grunting as she stumbled to the ground. "I'm too small to pull her," she cursed, easing up when Lorrin raised Freya from the dust.

"Many thanks." Ayana stood and brushed her sweaty brow, resting a hand on Freya's chest. "Keep her safe no matter what, she deserves a proper farewell." Her somber eyes momentarily closed, opening with rage as she approached the staircase, mouth pursing when she scowled upwards. Then she started to climb. Her steps were harsher than hammer strikes on a forming blade, furiously slamming the stone. With each one she increased her nimble pace, and soon she was one step below Gwen.

"When we reach the top, don't let him speak a word, not a single one. We must strike immediately before he can poison our ears." Ayana swung her bow to her back, pressing her hands together. Between them sparked the seed of a massive spell, one to end the monster once and for all.

Calicus watched the group without a word, knowing his place as an outsider. His face betrayed his sorrow though, frowning as he worked on the stairs. "I didn't know your companion, but I'll help avenge her nonetheless!" He shuffled to the steps and started climbing, breathing heavier and heavier with every step.

"I'll maintain the structural stability of the construction, thanks to you that shouldn't be too strenuous!" He nodded at Obsidian from above, then turned his attention back to the stone.

Currently imitating Vanessa Wagner's face without hair; the likeness is difficult to tell
Korina registered the knight’s words, agreeing completely. A vague memory of exasperation at her fellows (charges?) refusing to run surfaced, but with her mind so locked down it fizzled into the fog before any clarity came. Relief at the plan was quickly doused when one of her charges--Lady Ro--the pup was possessed by Kul’s chaos. Tears and cries were easily expected, but then they turned to anger. And instead of fleeing, the pup attacked! Her torso twisted in fear. No! She could not let her be hurt. She reached for him, plans and strategies gone, but even with her increased speed in the constant chill of underground, she was too slow. The other type two bird--the doctor’s friend--thankfully was not. She swooped in, catching her prey before returning her to the relative safety of the back of the group. As she reunited with her pack, Korina allowed her attention to return to the threat. Even when Lady Sybilla called for her to follow, she merely allowed a hand to extend from her back, through one of the tears of her shirt, waving the others on. She would remain between it and her charges until they were safely above ground. Only then would she follow.

“Silly, silly, silly.” She called, in an almost good-natured tone. “It’s not the place that’s interesting, it’s the people. And you can’t just replace those.” Her staff had to continue moving, constantly. In practical desperation--for it seemed to her as if the crawling creatures had centered on her--she created extra arms, passing the staff between them in hopes of minimizing any contact. Her body was covered with a scattering of black spots, each rough and sunken in from where the saliva had eaten its way through. She took a moment to cast a water spell above her, grateful for the natural humidity of the cave. It splashed down on her, rinsing the acid away and cooling the burning sensations, though she was sure more would come.

Celestine Oceania

It seemed the stress of the situation was finally taking its toll. When the archer scolded the mages who were working and chided them into going faster, Celestine felt herself losing her cool as well. Were it not for the situation, she would have had quite a few things to say to the green-haired man about how outrageous it was for a land-dweller to talk to the sea's royalty in such a way. She knew her energy would be put to better use continuing to sculpt the stone stairs though. On top of that, her mind was still on Freya, and she was certain the northern woman wouldn't want her to speak about her prejudices towards her party.

Gwendolyn also declined Obsidian's suggestion of a stone ladder. It seemed the group intended on bringing Freya's body up with them and were being considerate about the elder in the group making it out as well. It was hard for her to even admit to herself, but she was certain many syphids would leave behind the corpse of a recently deceased companion and possibly even leave the weaker in their groups to die to save themselves. The princess continued to find herself being surprised again and again by this group, but she couldn't help but wonder whether they were an anomaly or if all land dwellers were so... benevolent.

Celestine ended up almost bumping into Gwen when the woman stopped. She looked over to the unmoving mage and listened to her retort. Part of her wanted to speak up and tell them to save their bickering for later. Leadership was an important quality for a future monarch to have, after all. Reluctance formed in her heart as she remembered the group disregarding her idea of swimming out of this mess, and she also felt it wouldn't be right for her to do so after how much she antagonized the woman whose death the arguing stemmed from. Either way, they were making progress on the stairs, so her focus being there was more crucial.

Ayana was the one to attempt to get everyone to settle down, and Celestine turned to watch her head over to Freya's body. While she and Lorrin lifted their lost companion, Celestine carefully followed Gwen up the stairs to continue to build it higher. Her steps were light and hesitant, as she took note of the cracks formed on the stones by the woman's before her. She continued crafting newer steps though and was happy to hear that Calcius and Obsidian would be refortifying the steps below her.

The old man's heavy breathing concerned her though, which brought about dissonance due to her caring about the well-being of a land dweller. "Will you be able to make it?" she asked, once again ignoring her prejudices and reminding herself that he was here helping her escape certain death as well. She wanted to suggest he take a break, though was hesitant about voicing it. Obsidian claimed to be a golem after all. Surely she was experienced enough with earth magic to do enough for both of them. If not though, one piece out of place could make their whole operation quite literally go tumbling down.

Luka grinned when Luna grasped his arm, cheeks turning pink. "No worries! Can't fault ya for catchin cabin fever!" But he went blank when the impossible happened, mouth agape as a dragon burst from the darkness.

Luka scrambled back and dropped his scorching spell, eyes popping when the dragon slashed his commander. "SIR TALLIS!" He rushed to the mage's side, hands hovering near the wound. "Watch out! We can't lose you sir!" He brushed his brow and turned to the monstrous enemy, scowling with rage.

"How bout ya fuck off?" Luka extended his quivering hands, forming another, much weaker scorch sphere. "Take this ya c***s!" He aggressively threw his orb, frowning when sparks harmlessly sprayed across dense scales.

"Well shit..." Luka wasted no time making another sphere, repeating the pointless attack as random people flooded from another room. "Oy who the hell?" He scratched his head, watching the randoms assault the dragon, turning his dubious frown upside-down. "Don't know who you folks are but thanks for the assist!"

Luka turned back to the wounded master, a raised brow betraying his concern. "Maybe we erm... need to take down the guy? Then the dragon won't know what to do!" He pulled a knife from his pants' pocket, gesturing at Kiel. "How bout ya come down here and fight like a man! Or ya too scared?" He tossed the blade between his hands, marching by the princess and stopping three paces past her.

"Ya mate's one of them, he ain't gonna heed ya words. We're gonna have to slap him around a bit, no way around that ma'am!" He shrugged and scowled at the possessed man, clenching his blade's handle. "Cmon ya coward! We don't have all day here!" Luka snapped, raising his free hand and summoning a kinetic bolt. The spell looked like a charged pocket of swirling air, whooshing towards Kiel when Luka released it.

Rose side-eyed Kadar as he continued to speak to her through the battle. Watching as he finished off one of the creatures she wounded, she let out a huff. At least he was helping fight these things and not watching on the sidelines like a coward. Daisy, Liam, and Kadar surrounded the guard as she continued to pick off the creatures one by one. Her attention was grabbed by the demon as it spoke her and her sisters' names. It talked about making them both stay and Rose frowned. Like hell, they were going to stay in this god-forsaken town, let alone this tiny cell. Kicking away one of the crawlers, she flipped her knife around in her hand. She aimed it towards the figure but stopped herself when Liam was put into her line of fire. Watching the snake man tighten around the figure she tilted her head when he spoke of protecting Jane. Did this boy have feelings for Jane? She furrowed her brow as she tried to process this but her train of thought was interrupted by one of the creatures grabbing a hold of her foot. It’s teeth sunk into her leg and she gasped in pain. She could feel the wound beginning to burn and stabbed her knife into the crawler's back. Letting go of her leg, it fell to the floor and died with a small hiss.

Turning to face the figure, her face twisted into anger. She gripped her knife and ran behind the figure as it was distracted by Daisy and Kadar. Jumping up, she sunk her knife into the nave of its neck and twisted the handle. White blood covered her hand as she pulled her weapon out and she took a step back. Finding the wall against her back, she prepared herself to dodge if she was attacked. She continued to watch the crawlers as they closed in on them, looking to attack Liam.

"What do you mean rushed into pissing it off, we both know that creature had zero intention in helping us and." Lorrin would be silenced partway into his argument as Ayana silenced him with her own plea for them to stop fighting. Biting his tongue and holding back that foolish pride of his, Lorrin stopped complaining "Your right will have time to play the blame game later let's just go." Lorrin bent down picking up the lifeless Fraya "Were not leaving her Ill be sure of that." He to reassure Ayana and without saying anything he gives a nod to her words about their fight ahead. He followed the staircase crew closely on their way out of the hole with the other three behind them likely making sure nothing follows them. Once they made it to the top of the stairs Lorrin made sure to place the body in a safe place as the others likey began their assault. Drawing his bow the young archer would knock an arrow as sparks lit off the bow all he needed now was a target and with how dark it is in here that's going to be difficult but it only took him a second to find the hideous grin in the dark and whats this a little injured are we lets see if those reflects will save you now. Without saying a word Lorrin let loose an arrow aiming for the creature's head should the monster decide to look in his direction there would already be another arrow knocked likely already being released as well.

That rush of air that blew past Amalgahsett fluttered down the hall, leading her where the snakeman, Liam, had come from. Following that path down, the wet dripping sounds seemed to stop, and the walls would reveal the cause. Droplets had frozen. Once reaching a fork in the way, a pair of icey footsteps seemed to litter the floor going one direction. In another, there was a strange glow that seemed to suck in light around it. Voices chattered. Bodies turned the corner, passing in the opposite direction of the footsteps, turned, ignored Amalgahsett, and went towards the glowing darkness. The area dropped another shade of light around Stone’s Throw, even darker around that other cavern.

From down that cavern, she could hear snippets of a conversation, belonging to a masculine voice, “Wake up? I don’t need to wake up!... little harsher with our care!...N-no!

Skipping footsteps approached, greeting some of the people walking down. The tunnels seemed to be getting more crowded, where civilians seemed to be going the opposite direction of the skipper.

Two white orbs with a semi-circle upturned could be spotted, very reminiscent of the dungeon guard of cards. They spoke up, having altered their voice back to Doctor Cash, “Oh~ If it isn’t our pretty songbird. We never caught your name. We see you left your home. Not satisfied with it?” The voice giggled in it’s original tone, exactly the same as the Dungeon Guard, a gender being unable to associate with them. Soon, the form could be seen as a hooded figure, shorter than the guard had been. The hood seemed to adorn almost rabbit-like “ears.” They held the beaked mask in hand, though it was cloaked in bleeding shadows, dripping to the floor and fluttering around their feet. Their shoulder seemed to sport a white mark that resembled the wrong color for a burn. Their other hand held the blade of a sword that seemed to be dripping white, and a hole was present in their stomach area, white dripping down the wound.

Down the tunnel where they came from, a man going the opposite direction of the crowds could be sighted down the way.

“You!” Amal hissed, her song like voice distorting into a reptile sound. She put her hands up in a defensive way but knew that in this enclosed space that her options were limited. “I came for help and you caged me and bound my hands!” Amal seemed livid, so much so that the air around her seemed to distort as small pulses of air moved around her hands and mouth. “Name? Hmmm…. Amal will do fine. What is your true name creature? I know that you are not what I thought.” She hissed out.

The figure giggled, bringing the hilt of the sword up to their face and scratched their cheek, “We do not remember our original name. Or was it that we tossed that aside when we were welcomed into the darkness?” They contemplated for a moment. “We use a lot of different names for different things. We are Doctor Cash, but not all of us are her. We are also each other?” They shrugged their shoulders, “With our name gone to the rift, we are just our feelings and love for each other.” They took a step forward, their free hand outstretched, “Now come, why don’t you join us?

“Darkness…? Rift? What do you speak of?” Amal hissed again the waves around her arms and mouth disappeared. The light sound disappeared as she considered what the creature was saying. She glanced over her shoulder to the way she came then back forward to the way she was going and the only true way she knew she could use to get out. “Love for each other, is that why you entrap people and try to force them to do whatever it is that you do? To be saved?” she grumbled before reaching out and grabbing the hand. A shudder ran up her body as her wings twitched and vibrated. A drop of blood came from Amal’s nose as the wave of vibration shuddered along the surface of her skin and directly into the hand and body of the being she knew as Cash.

An even wider smile encroached the figure’s already stupidly-wide grin. Humans definitely couldn’t smile that wide, truly ear-to-ear. “Oh goodieeeeieieieiee-” The vibrations that were sent through their arm could be physically seen messing with their body, ripples of dripping shadow getting misplaced before returning. As the vibrations reached their torso, they were practically bouncing in place, their teeth chattering along with a wicked cackle that was messed with as the vibrations touched vocal cords. They wiggled their toes and their hand holding the blade clenched tighter, getting closer to chopping their own fingers off. “OH MAN! If we had a working heart, it would buuuurst!” White fluid did drip from their eyes and mouth as their hand tightened around Amalgahsett’s.

“Heresy, unnatural heresy!” She cursed before rethinking her life decisions. Her wings unfurled and she used them to try to make some sort of distance from the creature. However, in the confined space she couldn’t even open them up all the way. Without much she could do she let out a squawk before releasing a large burst of feathers as she tried to run past the creature.

It seemed that their motor functions had been delayed, as the dark figure couldn’t prevent Amalgahsett from slipping from their grasp and up and over. With a twitch of their shoulders as Amalgahsett ran past, the figure was giggling, “Oooooh~ She’s here! Our pet!” They turned around to face the direction that Amalgahsett went as she was getting closer to Lucien, who was running towards them. At their meeting point, there was another tunnel that led to the underwater lake and cavern that Liam and Lucien had first fallen into.

"Fucks sake" Lucien grimaced, stopping on a dime when the dueling women came into view. The masked one was the damned gift that kept giving, presenting another roadblock he needed to overcome before escaping. Talk about bad luck. The zealot was only here because a random civilian was too — probably another traveler with equally bad luck, lured underground by the kidnapping freaks.

"Keep going that way and don't stop, you're not going to beat that fucking thing" He cursed, gesturing to the submerged side. "There's a hatch in the ceiling above the water, take this spell and go!" He snapped a lumen sphere into existence, passing it to the woman. Then he stared down the monster again, holding out his hands.

"My full name is Lucien Gates, master of arcane defense at the Stowfort Magical Academy. Remember that when you're burning to death." He pressed his hands together at the fingertips, amassing energy in the space between his palms, summoning a condensed sphere of white flames.

"It took me many years to master this." He smirked, adding and compressing more energy with every second, creating a super dense and superheated sphere that violently shook between his hands.

"Soluti Stella" he contentedly whispered, shooting the spell forward with precise wind magic.

The sphere wasn't much larger than a marble, but when it neared the woman it boomed into a massive fireball that dented the walls, sending shrapnel shooting through the area. Lucien expected as much and swiped his hand sideways, slapping away rock shards with a wind gust that whistled through the tunnel.

"That's what I thought" He monotoned, straightening his back and smoothing the front of his robes, watching the smoke cloud for signs of movement.

When the smoke cleared, the first thing that would be easiest to see was the giant, glowing, white dripping smile that the dark figure was wearing, though one side of their face was missing, left with just one glowing eye. White oozed down the wound of their head, dripping down their side and to the floor. The “ears” of their hood were still on fire. They reached a hand, charred white, up to the ears and pinched the fire out with a sizzle. They chortled, “If the other us was here, they would have frozen that spell. Too bad~” Their voice was distorted, an effect from the vibrations the Quetzola woman had sent their way.

The figure took a step forward, swaying to the side, “This may be pushing our hand. You’re not church, yet your force is powerful. We want you.” They held out a hand, steaming from the fire that had assaulted them, “Come, let us take you both. We thinks you’ll love the other side of the rift! We can mold you to become powerful, unkillable. You can come back and tear the church apart again and again and again.” Another step forward. “Look at us. This was all you two. Look at you two. No injuries to speak of? We don’t harm our prospects unless our hand is forced. Do it again.” They flipped the sword they carried around so they held the hilt properly, pointing the blade in Lucien and Amalgahsett’s direction. Behind them, there could be heard some heavy footfalls, but it seemed to be moving away from them.

“I'm not running anymore.” The terrified bird squawked as she passed the illuminated ball. She waited behind Lucien as he announced who and what he was before charging up an impressive spell that seemed to shred the creature. Yet, as the smoke cleared the heretical being still stood where it was before, though far more worse off than it was before. Taking a step back the air around her reverberated before a shimmer ran up her body.

Extending a hand up from behind Lucien a current of air rushed past her before being concentrated around her arm, swirling around with crackling energy. She extended a finger out and within a second with an almost ear splitting crack the rush of air shot out like a high pressure cannon, speeding towards the remainder of the creature's face.

The blast smacked where aimed. Gone was their mouth. They moved their free hand up and tapped around the empty space, gurgling was all the noise they could make. Well, there would be no more talking them around.

They tossed the blade in their direction and bowed, white splattering to the floor. With a wave, they took off down the hall, away from Lucien and Amalgahsett, but instead toward the dungeon cells.

nice.jpg Luna slightly smiled as Luka welcomed her back and to her surprise, she felt both Hubyr and Sigurd at her side. She felt relief wash over her for a moment before a male voice caught her attention. Yelling of surrendering and calling the group their friends. Whistling, she caught sight of her surroundings and let out a gasp. Standing before them was a creature that resembled a dragon with a man sitting atop its head. Taking a step back, she covered her mouth to silence a small yelp. The picture in her mind faded into blackness and she heard Master Tallis yell for them to take cover. Thoughts raced through her head and froze her in her place. “A-A dragon?” She whispered, feeling her hip for her knife. Finding the small hilt, she unsheathed it. It was a small knife that wouldn’t do much to protect her but she wasn’t going down without a fight.

Listening to Luka yelling as his footsteps faded away from her she took a deep breath. Two voices cut through the catacombs and she recognized them as the intruders they ran into. Thankfully they stayed close and were assisting with the battle. Whistling again, she saw Master Tallis on the ground near her. Making herself move, she ran to his side, feeling for his arm. Once finding it, she whistled quietly to not catch the dragon's attention.

The creature was now just meters away and she caught sight of Luka and a woman close by. “Master Tallis, we must leave and get help from the other apprentices.” She said, helping him stand. Backing away from him to let him gain his balance, she began gathering energy for a healing spell. As her hands began to glow a soft blue, she felt a foot stomp behind her. Her breath hitched in her throat as she felt the earth vibrate. Hearing the swoosh of a claw through the air and the crunch when it made contact with her side made her scream. The force of the dragon's hand threw her across the tunnel and against the stone wall. Letting out a cry as the air was knocked out of her lungs, she fell to the floor. Gasping for air, she began to see stars in her vision. “No, I can’t d-die here.” She whispered, clutching to her side as she felt blood soak her hands. Her breath became more ragged and the pressure she kept on her side weakened. Her vision of constant blackness began to darken as she slipped into unconsciousness before exhaling her final breath.

Gwendolyn wiped a tear away as she heard Ayana’s cries to not leave Freya. She would carry the woman herself but she needed to finish the staircase. With the other mages working with her, the steps connected to the hole that they fell through. Taking a look around, she took in the scene. Helena, Roland, Amalia, Kuma, Aedzel, and a person she didn’t recognize were facing the same enemy that offered them help in the cavern. She furrowed her brows as she realized that the figure was the one that caused Freya to fall to her death.

Stepping into the underground room, she narrowed her eyes at the jester and brought her hands to her chest. Whispering a quiet seance, a bright ball of light grew in her palms. It shone with a soft hue of blue, pulsating with energy. “Explosion de Lumière!” She chanted, throwing her hands forward. The spell dug itself into the figure's chest, and Gwendolyn fell to her knees. The ranged attack took the last bit of energy she had and she gasped for air. Casting lumen spells, heat spells, healing Calicus, and building the staircase drained her magic to where she only had one large spell to cast before losing her strength. Sitting back on her feet, she watched the others continue the battle. Looking over to Freya, tears began to stream down her face and she dragged herself towards her body. She couldn’t fight anymore and took upon protecting her friend’s body.

And of course the 2 leggers did not understand. At least the Matugna asked for clarification. It was only reasonable that he’d be intelligent enough to realize there was a message. The beast was falling into its instincts, anxious without a way out. Or maybe it was prowling to freak her out. It was making her “HERE” sloppy. The last E ended up smaller, for she did not want to waste more time. It was running out when the calmer conversation in the tunnel was interrupted by an echoingly rumble. Whatever was coming was huge. She could feel the vibrations through her feet.

Though she joined the others at the doorway, she could not see more than the movement of an upcoming dark shape. Magic was sharp in the air, both sides already set. Kiel’s voice and scent was a surprise. And that was it. He was lost. Kuma might be fully pack influenced, but insanity was meant to be put down. Not by her of course, though evidently, Vaaltari understood. He was from the other country--didn’t they fight type twos for fun? Hopefully, he wasn’t out of practice; by the smell of this thing, it could be in its own category. She looked back, horrified to realize the cat was no longer in the room. How had she missed it leave?! Had it escaped the room from another way? The dragon-lady was glowing in power, seeming to create a shield. She hoped her Leone would stay behind it. Nezumi was not going to leave this room. She didn’t know what else to do; she didn’t want to risk sneaking beyond the dragon or abandon the others. Instead, she took off where the cat left off, looking for another exit.

Kadar landed and stopped his thrust, swinging his spear up and around in a sweeping arc, slamming the demon's side with a crunch. "You're lucky the kid has scales!" He wheeled his spear and landed another bludgeoning blow, wincing when vibrations twinged his fingers. "Meat shields are a dirty trick, co..." but he stopped when a crawler leaped up and wrapped around his forearm.

"Fucking vermin!" He dropped his spear and punched the creature three times, cracking its carapace and soaking his arm with black blood — but the crawler was entrenched. Its legs gripped him with increasing strength, burrowing into his sleeve.

"The hell are these things?" He stepped back and shook his arm, almost tripping as he spasmed like a madman. Then he turned and dashed to the nearest wall, crushing the crawler against it. "Finally..." he shook his bloodsoaked arm, casting away the corpse with a small thud. And with a low grunt he booted the crawler across the room, laughing when it soared through the door.

"Another one down." He smirked and looked at the others, a grin flashing when Rose stabbed the demon. "Nice one... and keep squeezing snakeman, we're almost done here!" He rushed into the frey once again, swiping his discarded spear from the ground, and with a twirl he lunged forward, aiming for an exposed section on the demon's side.

The situation had sent Valentine’s head spinning. No, that woman couldn’t have died…right? It was only in the epic tragedies and heart-wrenching plays of the day that the heroes died…though, deep down, they knew that reality was much worse than that. The pen of playwright gods had already been put to paper for Freya and had preordained such a fate long before now. It didn’t make the situation any fairer. It didn’t make it any less disturbing to Valentine nor for the people around them that knew this woman so well.

And now, all they could do was honour the woman’s wishes and run, as the armoured individual had instructed. Valentine wouldn’t protest. If that Jester figure had so easily dispatched Freya, then the others would have been grounded meat no doubt within minutes if they stayed and fight.

The Jester continued on, laughing gleefully, rambling on about some card game others were playing, about curing loneliness, amongst other confusing things. “Start making sense!” They couldn’t help but shout, gripping onto their sword tightly as they slashed at the incoming creatures. Aedzel, mind you, did a tremendous job of sending those creatures with a kick like a vicious whirlwind! They noted that they would have to thank her later. Although, one had managed to grip onto their foot, and it was only with Valentine’s incessant wave of their leg were they able to get it off.

A young, high scream perforated Valentine’s ears, and when they turned, they found a trident pierced through the Jester, bones crackling as easily as leaves underfoot. The child, much braver than any of them, had taken the plunge, but Valentine heard no fanfare of victory in his mind. Only the high-pitched shriek of tense violins in his head. Those only died down though before Aedzel had quite literally swooped in to save the young girl, returning her to her incredibly relieved mother.

That was when they were given the order to run. Valentine clicked their tongue, looking from the now departing crowd to Amalia. “Amalia, time to get moving!” Starting off in something of a half-run. They’d return to Amalia should the knight face any trouble, but if they didn’t start running now, they’d be in a world of trouble.

Ayana sprinted up the steps, sweating as she compressed mana between her hands. It was laborious work, and her breath spiked with every ascending step she took. "It ends here!" she grunted, lowered her head and pushed through the remaining stairs, leaping from the last one and landing near the demon.

"I hope you... you fucking die!" she extended her hands and shot an ice shard at his stomach. It pierced his skin with a frozen whoosh, bursting into swords that impaled him from within.

Ayana suppressed a smile and looked between the others, just in time to see Gwen collapse. "Gwendolyn!" she scrambled to the mage, kneeled down and clasped her arm. "Your spell was amazing! There's no chance he surv..." but she suddenly stopped, eyes shuttering in rapid succession.

"That's impossible, how does he stand?" Ayana grimaced at the mortally wounded monster, then scowled at the second group. "Don't flee! We can't leave him alive!" she swung her bow around and notched three arrows, shooting them with a grunt. They found their mark on the demon's mangled chest, drawing even more fluorescent blood — but he stood nonetheless.

"What is this foul magic?" Ayana stepped back and clenched her hands, a worried look on her face. "Just keep attacking! We need to completely destroy him! Grind him into dust!" She pressed her palms together, another spell in the works, trusting the others would join the frey.

Calicus answered Celestine with an assured "I'll manage ma'am" but he struggled to climb. His face was a sweaty, determined mask of stubborn strength, finally breaking when he bent down and placed his hands on his knees. "If I were ten years... younger this... this wouldn't be a problem!" He panted, stood straight and forced his way up the remaining stairs, climbing from the cavern with a grunt.

"Give me a moment to gather my senses!" He rested on his knees, passing a glance around the room. "The cavalry's arrived eh!?" He exhaled and slowed his breathing, eyes popping when the second group started to run.

"Wait! Look! The beast nears death!" He waved at Valentine, Helena and Roland, pointing to the demon with the same hand. "Look he's on his last legs!" Calicus stood and brushed his dusty robes, channeling energy through his palms. "And perhaps I can knock them out..." he smirked as a flame sphere sparked between his hands, glowing dangerously in the darkness.

Amalia Winters

Amalia's eyes were fixed on the jester as she attempted to draw its attention. From the corner of her eye, she could see her companions move past her and flee as she, no, Freya, had asked. She was prepared to heel-turn after none but the jester remained in front of her.

The sound of a sob pulled her attention away. It was then she remembered there had been a child among them. Her eyes fell on little Ro, who looked like she was frozen in place. The woman swore under her breath. Of course she was frozen! The poor girl must have been terrified! No child should o through horrors such as this! Amalia was about to step over closer to her, but before she could, the girl lunged forth with the trident she held.

Amalia let out a growl. Normally, she would have commended bravery, but now was certainly not the time. Worry completely took over as the woman watched the Jester almost throw the girl over the edge. Thankfully, Aedzel had prevented a second death today and Ro was safely with her mother. The knight remembered a different name called out by Helena, or rather, a full name: Roland. She was certain it was mostly boys who received that name, although it would be hypocritical of her to comment. Regardless, that wasn't important right now.

"Right!" she said to Valentine before getting ready to turn around. Yet another thing stopped her though, when the group who had fallen miraculously climbed out of the chasm. The shock only increased after seeing how readily they attacked the jester. She opened her mouth to tell them to run, but Ayana and the older gentleman with them instead urged them to stay and fight. Amalia wanted to explain how this beast had lost a limb and had been impaled but was still hale and hearty, but instead found herself looking away when Gwen send forth an explosion of light After the magic had faded, she noticed the mage had fallen to the ground. Only when the woman moved over to it did the knight realize they had brought up Freya's body and sadly acknowledged there was no chance of her still being with them.

The armored woman moved to help Gwen up. "Please, escape with the others!" she pleaded. "I'll make sure the others follow, and we'll take Freya's body as well!"

Just then, from the corner of her eye she noticed another bright light, about the same intensity as Gwen's spell. She turned to see Celestine having grabbed the trident and channeling a powerful bolt of lightning from it. Even the old man alongside them was gearing up to fight. Amalia let out a groan. It seemed she would be staying in combat for a little while longer. She drew her sword, waiting for an opening to take a swing during the bombardment of magic the jester was experiencing. The group honestly seemed capable on their own, but after seeing how resilient their opponent had been, she didn't want to take any chances.

Celestine Oceania

The two archers truly did start carrying the body. Even know she was skeptical, expecting this whole show of morals to be a ruse and for the land dwellers' animalistic natures to kick in. That wasn't the case though. Celestine wanted to point out the concern of whether the stone steps would hold the extra weight but felt touched enough to stay silent. Thankfully, they did.

As she continued working, she overheard the elderly tour guide complain, turning to see him having fallen to his hands and knees. The urge to move over and help him up was there, but her hands were busy crafting the staircase out of here. Thankfully, the man was able to get up on his own accord and show that he still had life left in him.

Upon arriving at the cliff above, the whole group seemed to take action. Like Gwen, Celestine was also exhausted. The mage launched one last attack at the monster though, after which a clattering sound was heard nearby. This creature was unbelievable to the syphid. It had lost an arm, took arrows from Lorrin, and had been pounced on by Ayana, yet was still alive. The others who had come along with Freya seemed to be making their way out of the cave, a move which Celestine strongly agreed with.

Ayana and Calcius urged everyone to stay and fight though, something that she couldn't wrap her head around. If this thing was going to die, it would certainly have done so already, right? On top of that, Celestine knew she wouldn't be much help in combat right now anyway. Her magic without her trident was already subpar, and on top of that a majority of her strength had been used to form the staircase. Yet... it felt wrong to leave behind her comrades now, especially after what they had just been through together. It was certainly a strange feeling for her, considering they were land dwellers, yet she looked around for something that would help. Perhaps a large rock or- wait... what was that?

Her gaze fell on a golden shimmering from nearby. As she squinted to better see the source, her eyes widened. Her trident! Oh what luck! She rushed over to where it sat, doing her best to side step the disgusting creatures that were scuttling about. Some of their saliva must have fell onto her, as she winced when she found her leg burning. There was no time for that now, though. When she approached the trident, she quickly reached down to pick it up. Turning around, she took aim at the monster that had been tormenting them, finding some irony in the fact that she was now using what she had pointed at the land dwellers in order to protect them. A strong bolt of lightning shot forth at the creature.

"I certainly hope you two are right..." she muttered, remembering Ayana's and Calcius's assurance that the beast would soon fall.

Leone sprinted out and stopped beside Yo, clasping her shoulder. "Be careful! You have guts, but I don't want to see them outside your body!" He glanced between the dragon, mages and escapees, cursing below his breath. "What the hell..." He drew a couple knives and shot them with wind magic, piercing the dragon's eye and puncturing its cheek. But it continued to rampage and slashed Luna with an outstretched claw.

"Shit!" Leone dashed to the woman and checked her pulse, closing her eyes with a gentle touch. "God damn it Kiel! What the fuck is wrong with you?" He scowled and drew a dagger, stepping back as Luka sprinted over and kneeled next to Luna.

"Get out of here kid," Leone gestured down the tunnel and stared at the dragon, measuring distance for another throw.

"No! Luna wake up! You better wake up this ain't funny!" Luka rustled her shoulder and choked back tears.

"Kiel you've got five seconds!" Leone scowled, rolled his shoulder and prepared to throw.

"He's one a them! It's no use!" Luka stood, wiped mist from his eyes and started another flame spell.

"What? One of w..." Leone dead-stopped and dove away, avoiding the dragon's swinging tail. Then he thanked several gods and stood with a grunt. "You've had enough chances Kiel!" He extended his hand and shot his blade, narrowly missing the possessed man.

"This is no good, we need to end this! Let's collapse the tunnel on them!" He glanced at the mages, eyes shooting open when he realized Elizabeth was there.

"Seven saints..." He shook his head and cast kinetic bolts at the ceiling, shaking dust from the sandstone. "Vaal! Stone! Yo! Watch the ceiling! When you see cracks start running!" He cast another bolt and looked to the mages again. "Enemy of my enemy is... well not friends but the only way we survive is together. We help you and you let us leave, deal?"
