This post has been a longtime coming. In case you can't tell: I'm a huge Bioware fan, and have been craving to write in their wonderful, expansive worlds. In particular, I'm looking for a Dragon Age roleplay. Origins was my first game by the developer, which means it has a special place in my heart. With my current re-playthrough of the series, the itch to write within Thedas and the Fade has been unbearable.

The Request:​

I want someone to write a massive undertaking of our version of the next Dragon Age game with me. I want the Warden, Quizzy, and Hawke(s?) to band together and face the next big threat as a team: whether it be another Blight, another Breach, the whole Solas business, or a combination.

Naturally, this would require us playing a handful of canons, along with our PCs. However, not every character will be part of every scene, and I imagine the narrative will jump around a bit, so everyone gets their chance to shine.

I'm inclined to writing my Warden -- a grumpy Cousland warrior who might threaten to turn the party around if they can't get along -- and will be seeking a Morrigan for him. I'd also love to write my Hawke-- a mage who is a walking fire hazard, and if it wasn't for his incapability to watch the world burn, would be on some beach instead of getting in perpetual, world-shattering trouble -- and do so against a Isabela.

(Character sheets for my boys will be provided in the following posts. The “world-states” are, of course, negotiable; those are just the choices I made in my play-through. We can hash out our state of Thedas together!)

In return, I'd write just about any Canon from Inquisition for my partner's Quizzy, and to even things out and add more dynamics, maybe add another Hawke? I'd be willing to write your Hawke's LI as well, and it would be fun to have both our Hawkes be siblings. Twins, perhaps, even! And if you'd rather write the Warden, I'm sure we can work something out, as well.

• My posts are detailed, and at least 300 words (three-ish paragraphs) long, though I've been known to go 1000+, depending on the scene. I don't expect my partner to match, as I believe in quality over quantity.
• I post at least once a week. Sometimes more -- possibility of daily. It depends on what is going on in my personal life, the length of my post, and my current muse. I will never pressure you for a post, and expect the same courtesy in return.

  • His armor is silverite accented by gold, bearing the griffon sigil of his order upon the chest. The leather straps are cracked and worn with age, the metal scratched and witness to many conflicts.
  • His shield is large, round, and metal. It bears the crest of Highever, though scratches and time have obscured the once vibrant paint.
  • The Cousland family blade, originally called Wolfbane, for its use during the culling of the werewolves, has since been retrofitted with a new handle: a golden lion's head forms the pommel, and its claws stretch to make the crossguard. The blade is forged of silverite, and patterned ripples decorate the metal. Now wielded by Ayden, the sword has birthed a new name: Lionheart.

  • The Archdemon left Ayden marred from their encounter; a burn crawls over his right cheek, that eye gone. His beard, if one looks closely, is also thinned across that side of his jaw. The empty socket is hidden by an eye patch.
  • His last gift from Rendon Howe: A long scar stretches from his collarbone, across his neck, and down to his sternum.

  personality

  Once an idealistic and righteous youth, living by a strict sense of honor and duty, the Blight has left Ayden bitter and slightly cynical. He sees the world between lines of grey, his once rigid sense of high morality chiseled into consequentialism. When the forces of annihilation threatened the very existence of his homeland, of his world — he found himself making hard choices, whose value would only be judged upon the condition of his victory.
  
  Underneath the gruff and grizzled exterior of a veteran, and the daunting persona of the Hero of Ferelden, Ayden is, by his own description, simple: he does what needs to be done, is unshakably loyal to those he holds dear, is honest and blunt, and does what is right, or at least tries to.
  
  Such a word as simple can hardly be used to encompass him, however. He reads, often, always eager to extend his own knowledge base, even if he would rather not know what he has learned. His burdens are offset by a wicked, if dry, and cunning sense of humor, jokes often told from a stone-like face, which can make those unfamiliar with him uneasy and unsure if he’s serious or not.
  
  And since he has lost so much, he’s desperate to make sure he never loses anyone again, even though he knows, with the oath he took, it’s a hopeless, impossible reach.

  the lion of highever

  Even as the youngest son of House Cousland, Ayden made an impression among his father’s knights and other noble houses. A talented warrior, he participated in many tournaments, won a majority of them, and earned the moniker The Lion of Highever among his people. Fervent gossip boiled within court concerning his inevitability to take his father’s title, but that destiny was stolen from him the night Howe slaughtered his family and invaded his home.
  
  

  the hero of ferelden

  In retrospect, being a Grey Warden always suited him better than being a nobleman; he prefers to be hands-on, in the thick of the battle, instead of commanding men to die in his stead. During the Blight, he led his companions, whom he grew close to and formed bonds with, to victory, though he still bears the scars — both physical and mental — that his fated duel with the Archdemon left him with.
  
  Origins “World-State”:
  

  • The Dwarves: Ultimately, Bhelen was chosen to rule Orzammar; while the Anvil of the Void was destroyed.
  • The Dalish: The curse was lifted from the werewolves, and peace brokered between them and the elves.
  • Redcliffe: The village was defended through the siege, and the mages of the Circle were used to save Connor.
  • The Mages: Mages were not killed.
  • The Crown: Loghain was forced to answer for his crimes at Ayden's hand, and the crown bestowed upon a (hardened) Alistair.
  • Final Battle: Ayden fathered a child with Morrigan, and everyone survived the siege. During the battle with the Archedemon, he received a nasty scar across his eye.
  • Awakening: Not trusting the Architect or his methods, he was slain by Ayden, and Amerathine was saved; while suffering major damage, Vigil's Keep was able to withstand the assault.

  
  

  warden

  One Warden instrumental in stopping the Blight rose from a meager upbringing to become a king, while the other abandoned noble claims to embrace the Grey. Once the dust settled after the Blight, Ayden served the Wardens and helped rebuild their ranks in Ferelden. It wasn’t until rumors of a certain witch began to surface that he abandoned his post to keep a promise, and disappeared into obscurity.

  • The Mantle of the Champion, famous robes and armor forged specifically for Kirkwall’s protector, hardly suit Vince; they’re bulky, unruly, and make him stand out like a sore thumb. Hence why he only wears them when he’s making official appearances, or trying to play the hero; otherwise, he mostly sticks to a simple leather coat with a fur collar.
  • His staff is a relic of his father’s. A small, red crystal sits on-top an ironbark staff, carved with intricate runes and twirling dragons. A silverite blade, its metal patterned and bright, is placed on the other end.

  Notable Markings

  • Gained from the first time his affinity for magic manifested itself, Vince’s left shoulder is scorched with a fierce, stretching burn.
  • A memento from his romantic duel with the Arishok, a diagonal slash runs along the length of the right side of his jaw.
  • Across his left shoulder, spreading its wings across his chest and shoulder blade, is inked a crow.

  • Perhaps a morbid keepsake — it serves as both a trophy from overcoming someone who wanted to harm who he holds dear, and a reminder of how close he came to death — but he wears a chip of the Arishok’s axe blade, connected to a bronze chain, around his neck.

  personality

  If one word could be used to describe the cinnamon roll that is Vince, it would be irreverent. A joker who wears a grin of different shades, he hides behind his sarcasm, which has just as much of a plethora of flavors for any situation: from warm and welcoming, to bitter and sardonic. The only thing he’s lacking is the capability to be serious.
  
  Humor is his armor, his way of guarding against a world that is cruel and unforgiving. His life has been wrecked by tragedy and pain; his efforts to keep those he cares for safe pointless and vain. He has lost much, and swallows the bitter failures behind his smirks and indulgent comments.
  
  Though his personality is aloof and flippant, he cares deeply. Past his persona, and the muttered, wanting pleas to be sitting on a beach halfway across Thedas, away from the world-shattering events, he could never stand aside while a revolution blazed around him. He could never just watch as evil forces and power-hungry men devastated those around them — hence his penchant for landing himself into the midst of trouble.

  the apostate

  Growing up in a household of apostate mages, while often living right under the Chantry's nose, was a rather unique experience, definitely since the Hawke family was anything but subtle. At first, Leandra thought her children might be spared from the curse of magic, but it reared its head in her firstborn. Vincent's talents emerged when a group of stubborn Templars refused to leave his father alone. As swords were drawn, rushing out from his mother's protective grasp, Vincent raised his hand, summoned the anger rising within him, and watched in horror as he burnt one of the aggressors alive in his armor, and with the uncontrollable flames pouring from his fingertips, hurt himself in the process. Needless to say, the Hawkes moved afterwards. It was hardly the last time.
  
  After settling down in Lothering, the family tasted what having a permanent home might be like; while occasional suspicions from the local Templars arose, among rumors of the village folk, the mages were able to fly under the radar. Having spent a childhood on the run, living as rolling stones with the constant threat of expulsion, the simple reprieve was welcome. The handful of quiet years spent there would be cherished by Vincent, even if it included the memory of his beloved father's death. After Malcolm's passing, he found himself taking up the responsibility of being Bethany's tutor in the arcane, and keeping the family out from under the thumb of the Circle through constant vigilance.
  
  Then the Blight came, and with the Hawkes' renewed flight to Kirkwall, destiny annoyingly asserted itself.
  
  

  the champion

  Vince never wanted fame — the fortune, perhaps — nor (especially) the responsibility that came with it. When he first set foot in Kirkwall, his goal was to simply take care of his family, and maybe make a few extra coins along the way. Yet when the tensions between mages and Templars started to boil, he couldn’t stand by on the sidelines. He took action when and where he could to defend mages against the brutality of the Chantry and their Templars, though also had a firm stand against blood magic.
  
  Decisions:

  • Mostly pro-mage actions. The Circle was defended at the climax, and Hawke fled Kirkwall.
  • For Isabela, Hawke fought a duel with the Arishok. Knowing he had to win, it was the one and only time he used blood magic to tip the scales. Though he was victorious, he almost lost his life during the match.
  • Carver become a Grey Warden.

  
  

  the fugitive

  Well, where does one outlaw apostate rebel go after setting a rebellion ablaze with not a spark, but a damn explosion, while the world’s most powerful and organized religion wants their head for dismantling their power structure? With their lives barely intact, Hawke boarded on Isabela’s ship, and with the sails blowing them away from Kirkwall, said goodbye to one of his longest standing homes. In the time that followed, he would travel the seas with the pirate queen as a wanted fugitive, mind still plagued by what he left behind: the personal, physical, and philosophical.
