Realistic or Modern Silver Oak Academy: Season 1

tumblr_inline_oo3mez8Cd81uogu26_250.gifv

Tatum had mostly been on her phone waiting for Colby, arguing with Zach and then he had gone silent. She was glad because it seemed like the boy, she enjoyed spending time with didn’t realize his mistakes. Tatum was mostly excited for the muffin that Colby said he was bringing, not that Tatum had expected any form of food but the sentiment behind it was nice. Sure, she didn’t like eating in front of people that she didn’t know well but she loved food more than she would ever verbally admit. Her dad was an amazing cook, so food was something she treasured even if she had issues with her dad that didn’t stop her appreciation for food.

It wasn’t long before she heard a voice she recognized as Colby and she shot him a smile, “Hey Colby, you ready for an amazing tour from an amazing tour guide?” She took the bag gratefully and looked in. The muffin looked good, but she didn’t feel comfortable eating it in front of Colby. She tucked it into her bag, “I can’t eat, walk, and talk at the same time. Thank you so much for the muffin though.” She hoped that her lie was convincing enough because she felt awkward about her real reason for not eating.

She gestured for Colby to follow her into the building, “Welcome to Silver Oak, an immaculately built hell. This is where your day goes from okay to bad until you’re free. You and I get to miss some classes because of this tour but let’s find our lockers put away our bags and then adventure through the school. I can show you how to get to the roof. They don’t like us getting on the roof, but I haven’t been caught yet.” There was mischievous tone in her words as she took a look at the information to guide Colby to his locker.

It was kind of a shock that they trusted her at this school when she was one to cause most of the chaos and trouble. She had snuck out and planned parties, yet the administration trusted her and treated her like she was an angel, but she was far from that. She kept her attention on finding Colby’s locker and then stopped suddenly, “This is it, Kitten. Your locker for the year, they are what they are, but they hold books and other contraband.” Tatum had pulled out her pack of cigarettes before sliding them back in the side pocket of her bag. She let herself lean on the locker next to Colby’s so he could get fully situated before they continued on the tour of hell.

Noah Stewart
Noah.gif
With firmness in his step, Noah walked across campus.

His silhouette slumped, decayed.

His smile faded, gone.

The pale skin under his eyes, gray. Unmistakably due to him not getting enough sleep the previous night—none for that matter. Episodes of hopelessness, episodes of anger, even episodes of sobbing silently into his pillow exchanged as the moonlight moved across the dorm room floor until it was time for the sunlight to do the same. Just thinking about the emotional damage he had caused to so many people made Noah want to disappear, but he hadn't such an opportunity.

However, what the black-haired boy could do, or attempt to do, was to make things right, salvage what was salvageable from the broken hearts of the people he considered his closest companions. He was well aware that trying to talk to Zach would most certainly leave him with some kind of a wound, whether physical, like a broken nose or a busted lip, or maybe psychological, like getting insulted, and he wasn't sure how far Zach would go. The previous evening had been heated, fueled by alcohol and unnecessary emotions people shouldn't have acted upon, however, it was the first time Noah had ever been yelled at by Zach, so absolutely nothing was guaranteed.

The next choice was Harper, seeing that talking to Chase couldn't have possibly made this confusing and painful situation any better.

Noah had known his best friend long enough to know that she wouldn't attend classes, not after being betrayed and hurt. He knew that there was one place in the whole campus where Harper felt safe, where she would most certainly be if the world around was decaying and she couldn't do anything about it—the stables.

This was exactly where he was going, you know, with firmness in his step and whatnot. It was actually pretty surprising how long it had taken him to get from the dorm to the farm, considering that he had been doing track for the last 2 years. Maybe this sluggishness, this slowness was due to contemplation of thinking of what to say to Harper once he arrived at the farm, or maybe the alcohol from last night was still giving its effect the next day. It didn't matter now, because the boy soon found himself at the farm, the smell and sounds surrounding him not having changed from 3 months ago when he was last here.

As he expected, Harper had been there, and she seemed at peace. Maybe Noah should've just left her alone, left her in the peacefulness she had managed to acquire, yet he didn't do that.

"Hey, Harper." The boy spoke, quietly, not wanting to startle her.

Immaculately built hell was one way to put it. It made sense why Colby was here. Did this school make alumni who were nothing but arms dealers, serial killers, and corporate lawyers? Possibly. Tatum didn’t seem like she could be any of those, but Colby had a feeling that she was something that might get him in trouble someday if he wasn’t careful.

“You’re quite the rebel,” he remarked, stowing away his backpack inside his locker. If Colby had any contraband, putting them in a school locker would be a dumb move. “There’s kind of a good reason why most schools don’t want students on the roof. But sure, you can give me a tour of the roof next time, too, and other places they don’t like you to show me.” Did that come out a little flirty? He hoped it didn’t. He had promised himself that he would be more careful while sober on the first day of school. Now he regretted not stealing a sip of brandy before leaving earlier. He wouldn’t have left his secret flask behind if he knew social anxiety would be creeping in him slowly this soon.

“Anyway,” Colby said after slightly clearing his throat, hiding his hands in his pockets in case they were slightly trembling (they weren’t now, but he felt like they would soon), “what’s our next stop? I guess you don’t need to show me where the auditorium is this time.” The second he finished that last statement, he knew he shouldn’t have mentioned it. He thought it would be more like an inside joke between friends, but thinking about it now, a kiss in the auditorium seemed more than just a “friendly” inside joke.

Zachary Lee
Did he want to reimagine the words coming out of Eli? No. Zach was too rapt in pain to do that. His bones felt like they were branches- snapping of blood rather than sap. The splinters of the barked branches didn’t stop there; they punctured his muscles, and he became a tree dithering in death’s garden. Trembles-his body gave into shivers lanced in anxiety when his head crunched against the dashboard of the piano. His face weakly lumped against the textured black and white keys in a consumed entirety of fatigue, fast breaths out and in. Knocked off at the lungs with another strike, he desperately longed to linger at the instrument’s side, but he was lifted again like a wrung-at-the-neck bird, and returned with another throw down to his picketed skull.

"I heard if you so much as point in my general direction again, I'll come down on you harder than any fuckin' wave ever has, Surfer Boy."

Lee is then transfixed with a face too close: a face of Eli that tones a wordless goodbye and has a paring distinction of accomplishment, so harsh that it controls him. Zach is hurdled against the expressionless side of the piano once more, and thus finds no hope to resist in the rest of his self-destruction. He laughed. And, laughed even more, albeit the acrid taste of his own blood stung from the cuts on his lips. With a limited fighting chance, he purposely let back, “Oh, yeah hotshot?”

He forced his limbs to comply and his elbows sloppily rose up with the faintest dignity of favorable physics as the rest of him anguished against the polished wood of the instrument, “You know what? I’ll give it to you. You know how to make me angry. Like bringing Tatum into your little punk comebacks...all because you’re just a sensitive, Australian dick. To think I was just going to let you walk away…” His head hobbled too generously when he shook his mane of gold.

“But see...since I’ve been having a rough start of the year. I don’t want to play nice or calm either,” his mouth crept towards a perpetually tedious smirk, “Your threat makes me want to point in your general direction…”

You're asking for the fight, Zach.

Why?

This year was supposed to be good.

A phenomenon occured when Zachary Lee pushed himself up and treaded a step or two. Behind his back, one of his hands had stolen the conductor’s baton from the piano bench. Then, without faltering, his empty backhand swung and sliced the air. Inertia in motion, his palm came right and hard against Eli’s face with a thinning sound of the slap coming out non-interrupted and with clarity.

“You didn’t specify what general direction,” he unmindfully preached, before rolling his one fist around the collar of his shirt like Eli had done to him, hastily growing serious, “So full of yourself? Well, Eli, you can sit as high on top of Silver Oak as you want, but from now on, I would say you shouldn’t get too comfortable.”

A slow and steady burn ripped at his muscles, but nevertheless, he pushed. Pushed enough to leave an interval for him to gag the scrawny stick horizontally across Eli’s neck from behind and choke him long enough before the shallow stick halved.

“Wanna know why you can’t hit me harder than a wave? The difference between you and a wave is,” Zach hummed, “You are a part of nothing. Are nothing. No one, not even your pity party Carter can ever get to you. It’s just you and you alone in your lonely head. And, it? It is a part of something worthy, has some home it can always return to. The ocean.”

Perhaps, the one thing that kept him from throwing any new punches was the thought:

You can’t say you are any different, Zachary Lee.

Hayden got up without a second thought and made his way to the door. He smirked as he peered out the window of the door, he knew he was on the winning side. Who really wanted to fight Eli, it would just end a lot worse for the other party. Zach however may have been a decent match against Eli, but Hayden was sure Eli could handle it.

He watched as few teachers wandered by, not really paying much attention to the chaos happening inside. It was almost like they didn't hear it, which was next to impossible because neither Eli or Zach were being very quiet. Hayden had almost left his post when Zach first started beating the shit out of Eli. Eli quickly made a comeback that should have ended the fight there, Hayden left his post smirking as he wandered back towards the seats.

Hayden should of know that Zach wasn't done though, he was a hot head and the fight on twitter that Hayden had read that morning definitely had set him off. Zach wasn't stopping, it was one thing for the two to fight, it was another for Zach to try to choke out Eli. Hayden moved, he knew Eli wouldn't have liked him getting involved, but Hayden figured Eli would rather not pass out from being unable to breathe.

"Dude." Hayden put himself in the middle and shoved back against Zach's chest. "Too far." Hayden knew murder Mondays tended to be rather violent. But, no one ever actually died, and Hayden didn't want this year to be the first. "You made your point. Just back off." Hayden stood his ground, standing between the two of them. "Why are you even so angry right now. Are you really that sensitive to what people say online." Hayden raised his eyebrows, dropping his arms to back to his side.

Harper was finally feeling relaxed and feeling like herself again. She was still stuck in her head, but there wasn't any chaos of wondering why. She was just there, in this moment, with the beautiful horse in front of her. She stroked the horse down his neck, wishing that she could just take him out for a ride right then, move across the fields effortlessly, but she was always too afraid to ask the dean of students who ran the farm.

She twirled the forelock of the horse in front of her around her finger. Harper smiled genuinely to herself. Something about the smell of a barn just settled her emotionally.

Harper hadn't heard Noah come into the barn, but she should of known he would of come to find her here. She dropped her head, the quietness of her mind didn't last long.

Harper didn't even bother to turn her head to look at him. "I told you." She sighed. "I didn't want to talk Noah." The quietness of her mind was gone, and she found herself feeling broken again. "Why can't you just leave me alone?" She rubbed her thumb on the muzzle of the horse.

Harper looked away from the horse and up at Noah, "You said you didn't need me Noah, now that I told you I don't want to be around you, you want to be back in my life."

"I don't need you Noah. I don't need validation from you. I don't need your half-assed apology."

Madi Lexington-Montgomery
Madi Gif 70.gif

When the teachers had crashed the party on Saturday night, she was thankful she ran track and the fact that she wasn't wearing heels as she sprinted away from the immediate vicinity. Of course then Freddie had found her because, under no circumstances, could his little sister get into trouble. From there Madi had been escorted back to her dorm for the night and then the next day she just spent afternoon hanging out with Hayden once she'd had a nice long lay in. She totally wasn't trying to avoid her scary roommate, not at all.

Either way, it was now Monday morning, or Murder Monday as some called it, and the petite blonde was sat in her first class of the day chemistry. It seems Mr Lu was on fine form today, not even five minutes into the lesson and he'd already acquired a student's phone. Now he was carrying on with what he was saying about who they were sat next to being their lab partner for the year which was when she heard her name mentioned. "Since you're sat on your own Miss Lexington-Montgomery you can come and join Mr Moore and his partner Mr Donovan, hopefully you can be a good influence."

Well then, Red she was already friends with so that was cool. Graham however, she'd only heard of so hopefully he liked her. Quickly she picked up her books and chair and moved over to the other desk. "Hello Red, have a good summer?" she asked with a smile before turning to Graham, "I'm Madi by the way."

The words leaving Harper's mouth broke Noah a little, piece by piece, even if they didn't seem like they were anything that hurtful compared to the things which were said the evening before. Perhaps not being under the influence of alcohol made the numbness to hurtful words disappear, or maybe the reality of the situation only now hit him. Whatever it was, one thing was clear, and it was how Harper wanted virtually nothing to do with Noah anymore.

The black-haired boy wasn't deserving of having anybody pity him, which is why he just stood there, listening to the things his best friend repeated, no matter how much they made him want to scream. How the hell did this school year start off so fucking chaotic? How the hell did he allow himself to hurt his friends this much? Was he really such a bad person that a kiss was more important to him than his friends' wellbeings?

"I know you don't need me or my half-assed apology, and that is perfectly valid, but... Harper, I need my best friend. Please just let me explain." Noah finally spoke, practically begging. "I know that what I did was unforgivable, and I know I am in no position to be asking for you to hear me out after how much the consequences of my actions have hurt you, but I need you to understand. Please."

He stopped talking for a moment, stepping forward, closer to the girl.

"I'm being selfish. I get that. But I need you, Harper. Even if you don't need me."

Harper stood there, frozen next to the gelding's stall. She didn't want to give Noah the chance to explain his self, she knew that she would fold all to easily. Noah had been someone she could always go to, he was her friend before Chase became such a big part of her life. But that was over, she didn't want to hear Noah's excuses, but why weren't her feet moving. How come she was still standing here, staring at Noah, she wanted to leave, turn around and not look back.

But she couldn't do that, it was Noah standing in front of her, she couldn't run from him. He is-was, her best friend.

Harper stayed quiet for a few more minutes, before feeling the muzzle of the gelding nudge her elbow. Harper closed her eyes and stared down at the horse's nostrils. Her mouth felt dry, it took everything in her to clear her throat and try to talk. Harper wanted to act stronger than she was, she didn't want her voice to waiver. She wouldn't give that to Noah.

"Okay." She breathed out closing her eyes. "I'll talk to you Noah." Harper wasn't sure she could ever forgive Noah, but she couldn't leave him. Not without some sort of closure.

Harper stroked the horse down the middle of the forehead one last time before turning away. In some sort of attempt to find a grounding force or as a stroke for luck. Something to just keep herself standing.

She walked to the middle of the stable keeping her distance from Noah. "Let's go for a walk." Harper walked passed Noah and out of the stable on to the field, she walked along the fence of one of the pastures.

Harper looked out on the field watching the horses graze through the field, a few of them trotted after the others moving them off down the hill. "So" Harper swallowed, biting her bottom lip. "Explain." She sighed clenching her hand on the fence in front of her, trying to hold herself up. Harper did not want to break, she needed to stand on her own, just this once.

Vered Demsky

Vered blinked. What? What was this guy talking about?

"Uh, yes, I am Vered... What's the, uh, the costume for?" And why was this guy saying so much stuff to him? He didn't even know the other boy, for all he knew, they weren't even attending the same school. "If someone left that at the party last night, I swear it wasn't me." Why would it be? Vered would probably toast alive in that glorified fursuit placed before him, plus there was a solid chance it didn't fit.

"And, um, how do you know my name? What's all this information for? I mean, I don't... you know, intend on wearing that, it doesn't belong to me." He scratched the back of his neck. The boy wasn't playing dumb, he really had no damn clue what Stu was getting at.

"But uh, yeah, I guess some directions would be helpful..."

Red Donovan
“Hey, uh- Noah?” Red’s lips opened softly in question. Red roused awake on Monday in the pliancy of lukewarm, linen bed sheets that pandered over his torso and legs in a weight reciprocal to that of the papery of the aerial wings bodying a butterfly. The sun flared amidst the blinds; the botanical plants on the ledges took to stretches and tubbed in the golden. Chippers of birds freestyled the verses of Saturday night’s party, and although it was long gone, he was prompted to smile. Bella Dupont was someone not in the ordinary.

Red Donovan’s brown eyes blinked in a haste as he regained himself, and his mouth receptively opened again.

So- Noah..”

Red Donovan had spent Sunday trying to impersonate Sherlock Holmes: what had made Noah so upset after the party? He had been taciturn; something saddened could be learned in his eyes. Withdrawn like a minty forest, and locking the house to the guest of laughter, something had swallowed him whole and began to perpetually lunch on his heart.

“Noah, did something happen?” Red began for the third time, “I wasn’t eavesdropping, okay... maybe it counts as eavesdropping, but I sorta, kind of live with you and you seem so..you know! So sad. And, I hate when people are sad. I didn’t want to just poke my head from the upper bunk to seem like I popped out of nowhere, but...are you okay?”

Red Donovan proceeded to go against his words when he skirted over his top bunk to the lower bunk. The bed had been empty.

Noah was already gone?!

----

The classroom of chemistry was bustling even when Red Donovan shuffled in a moment before the bell. This was no city scene by any match, but there were etches of movement scaling left and right with just as much kooky enthusiasm. A whiteboard, buttery white, took one whole margin of a wall. With zippy eyes, Red tailed a marker indicting a name on the expansive surface with a large letter casing that spelled out “Mr. Lu.” From the baseline of the teacher’s desk, colonies of tables and stools cleanly were stationed. Glass tubes, and octangular beakers ornamented the black tops of lab tables.

Chemistry. Ha, this will be easy. Please be easy. The periodic table which butted itself as printed as a copy on every pair of tables made his eyes gently bulge.

Just kidding?!....

He compromised his bonkering thoughts and plopped down next to a guy that looked fairly companied with his phone. That was all, until it was taken away. Easing through a clipboard with a pen, Mr. Lu had been pronouncing names. In the contingency of taking everyone in, he barely felt footsteps of a girl move with her piled books and chair, until...

“G-good summer?”

Red swiveled in his stool. Distraughtly, it beckoned a frill of air which messed with his hair and edged a gaping at the mouth. There she was: Madi Lexington-Montgomery with a name that felt like he was going to forget it because it was evidently long. She had the same face as he had met her, it being the stroke of spring before the hatching of bluejays. The jays would then spread their wings and crystalize into her eyes. He could’ve kept it simple and been like “Oh, hey Madi.” But, nature made Red Donovan blurt, “Good summer! Yeah, yeah. Something like that, Madi. Sometimes I think Oregon is so big. It’s the shape of toast you know, which I definitely had for breakfast…”

His head leaned back slightly as he turned to the boy, “Hey! I took the seat next to you, but I didn’t want to bother you because you seemed so busy, which I get, and like it sucks Mr. Lu took it too...but… I’m Red!”

What’s the costume for? What's the costume FOR?! Was the kid being dense or what!? In fact, Stu asked him as much: ’Are you being dense or what?’

He unravelled the costume so Vered could get another good hard look at it. A glimpse into his very own future. ‘This is you for the rest of the year,’ he clarified. ‘Hey, you accepted it! At the party you did.’

‘And you best not change your mind because—’ he paused to think of a reason. ‘Well you can’t. Once you’re it, you’re it. It’s —’ He paused again. ‘. . . part of the rules.’

Rules he just made up two seconds ago.

They came down the stairs of White Oak and out onto the greens where an already blazing sun screamed at their eyes. They must have been running late despite Stu's attempt to get up early today. Anyway, back to the whole mascot business:

‘Don’t worry about it, it’s not so bad. . . well, it’s not so good either, but what I’m trying to say is. . . never mind.’ God, he was already feeling sorry for the kid, but no way he was taking the job back! ‘Look, I’ll help you learn the ropes. Like I said, don’t worry about it. . . I’m Stu by the way. They call me Neck Tie.’

He reached for a handshake.

Hey, maybe we’re in some of the same classes. How come you’re a sophomore anyway? It says you’re 14. Did you skip a year or something?’

Stu pointed across the field.

‘That’s Steerforth Greens. That greyish building there? That’s Persimmons House. It’s one of the better halls out there. I’ve actually been there once, the rooms are a hundred times better than ours.’

‘And that’s the boiler room. I hang out there sometimes.’ He cleared his throat. ‘Well, everyday actually. Hey why don't you join us? You can if you like. I’ll introduce you to my friends.’

Well. . . ‘friend’. Singular.

It’s not that Stu was that talkative — it was just a fairly long walk with not that many landmarks in between. Plus, he wanted the kid to feel at home, so he was going out of his way to be friendly. When Stu first came here last year, nobody talked to him or showed him around anywhere. Silver Oak could be a pretty hostile and friendless place, especially when you were dressed as a stupid bear-cub.

‘Come on, we’ll cut through here to Hardick Hall.’ He chuckled. ‘Hardick Hall, get it?’ Man that never gets old.

Graham hadn't noticed the boy who had taken the seat next to him, he had been a bit preoccupied by his phone and now he was relatively distracted by the pout he had on his face about loosing it. It wasn't till Madi came over to join his table that Graham realized that there was another kid beside him, he seemed to be about their age, 'well that would make sense, he was in a sophomore class after all'. Graham knew Madi, and usually she tended to make him a bit nervous, but he had another girl on his mind.

'Meera..' He sighed to himself, wishing he hadn't been so stupid to have his phone taken away.

"Hi Madi." Graham smiled, he turned to the boy on his right who he hadn't introduced himself to, despite being table mates. Graham heard Madi mention his name, Red. Interesting name.. Graham wondered if it was a nickname of sorts or if Red's parents had actually named him that. Granted Red could think the same thing about Graham's name as well, I mean who knows what Red actually thought about Graham himself.

"Oh... Hi.. I'm Graham." Graham realized he still had forgotten to introduce himself to the boy sitting with the three of them. "I like toast. Did you get it from the Cafe? Or did you bring a toaster to campus? I went by the hedgehog cafe this morning for a muffin. My parents sent me money to get an extra special breakfast for the first day. But I just wanted a muffin." Graham shrugged, he probably should of gotten something better, so he could actually focus on the class in front of him. But food only helped so much for him to keep his focus.

"Oh, yea that sucks. But I should of probably been more creative while hiding it." Graham really hadn't even tried to hide his phone, he was too preoccupied by texting Meera, waiting for her to respond, and rereading texts she had already sent.

Graham thought he felt his phone buzz in his pocked and instinctively reached for it, forgetting for a moment that he didn't have it. "So... Uh.. Did anyone listen to what we were supposed to do?"

Sawyer had woken up entirely to late. When her eyes opened to greet the first day of classes at Silver Oak Penitentiary, it was well past the first bell. She was still in her clothes from the night before and the only thing Sawyer bothered to do was change her shirt. Everything was the same. Same beanie, same jeans, same leather jacket that she'd had on at the party the night before. The party that had ended in the most disappointing way it could have. Sawyer had done her little singing escapade in an attempt to impress the pretty blonde only to not be able to talk to the girl at all in the end. Whoever ratted them out to the faculty was in for a good neck ringing. Maybe Sawyer could start a lynch mob. It was probably Elena that did it anyway, no one could touch her, so a lynch mob would be useless in that case. What a stuck up prick. Elena was the definition of someone with a stick up their ass. The only thing that she was confused about was that Elena had been at the party herself, why would she do something that could get her in trouble to? If not by the school then by uncle dearest. Whatever. Sawyer wasn't worried about Elena's stupid reasons for being a bitch. As far as Sawyer was concerned, Elena could fuck off and fall in a hole. That might actually make campus a little more bearable. There would be more parties, the only thing she was really mad about was missing out on her chance with mysterious new girl. She could only hope they might cross paths again and Sawyer would have the balls to actually speak.

Sawyer practically ran into the bathroom of their dorm, brushing her teeth and running a brush through her hair all in record time. There was no one else in the dorm as far as she could tell, they were either already gone, or still in a coma like she'd been. "If you're still asleep, get your asses up! Second bell rings in like..." Sawyer glanced down at her phone in her hand, "NOW! It rings now! Fuck." With that yelled across the whole dorm, Sawyer took off out the door and down the stairs at an almost inhumanly fast pace. Her rush didn't stop until she was across campus at the science building. The second she stepped into the building, all sense of rushing had left her and she was at a cool strolling pace. She passed by a teacher and offered her a wink and a nod. The woman rolled her eyes, but said nothing about Sawyer's lack of punctuality. Once she'd gotten to the door of her class, she took a breath and ran a hand through her hair before entering. A wide grin graced her face and she closed the door behind her with a flourish.

"Andrews. You're late." Mr. Schmidt admonished, "I want to remind you that this is an AP class and I will not tolerate lack of-" Sawyer cut him off before he could finish with a pat on the shoulder and even went so far as to ruffle his hair slightly.

"Yeah, yeah. I know the drill, Lionel." Sawyer moved to the only open seat in the front of the class to a chorus of snickers behind her. Mr.Schmidt simply clenched his jaw and let out a slow and long breath before turning back to the white board. Sawyer turned to the boy next to her and pointed at a pencil holder sitting on Mr.Schmidt's desk. She took up one of her own pencils and promptly chunked it at the holder, it landed inside with a rattle. This cause Mr.Schmidt to turn and glare at the class for a moment before turning away again. The boy next to her gave her a high five and Sawyer settled back into her seat, stretching her arms high above her head and glancing around the classroom. That's when she spotted her. Sitting a chair down from the boy she had just high fived was the girl from the night before. The grin on Sawyer's face grew and she felt a whole lot more peppy suddenly. They shared a class, good to know.

"Now, as I was saying before Sawyer made her... ahem...entrance. You're being paired for this first assignment." Everyone groaned at the idea of assignments on the first day of fucking school and Sawyer had to agree with them, "Oh, calm down. It's a simple project. You just have to make a flora journal. You and your partner need to find as many different species of flowers around campus as you can and press them into a journal with descriptions and names." Mr.Schmidt turned around with a cup in his hand, "I'll draw for your partners." He reached in and rummaged around for entirely too long before seeming to settle on two pieces of paper, "Greg and Hailey, Kieran and Olly, Penelope and...." Mr.Schmidt droned on and on until he finally had drawn Sawyer's name, "Sawyer and Grace." Sawyer didn't know who that was. She sat up and looked around until her eyes landed on the blonde, who was looking right back at her. Grace. Fuck, how lucky did you have to be?

It was a new day, and the previous night had been a somewhat weird, but new and exciting experience.

Dante was aware that Americans were a little bit self-centered and egotistical, especially when they had more money than most, but the white-haired boy she met at the party had been an entirely different, more extravagant, enhanced version of the mentioned American. It was as if he thought the lone definition of money itself belonged to him—as if everything around him had been his personal belonging, his for the taking.

It wasn't that this sort of people didn't exist back in Italy, but more that he had been like nothing else she ever encountered in her 17 years of living, and if you knew Dante, you would be aware of the fact that this girl, no matter how innocent she may have looked, liked venturing into unexplored territory, no matter what or who it had been, and somehow, she was extremely good at doing so.

Class hadn't even started yet, and, in the whole wide campus of the boarding school, Dante had managed to run into the boy once again. Of course, he wasn't done flirting, continuing exactly how they left things the previous night.

"What is it? Your hobby? Going everywhere I go and being creepy?" The blonde girl copied once again, not taking a particular interest into the boy and giving in to his obvious tomfoolery. In fact, she didn't even bother to look at him, or whatever branded clothes he was wearing, but casually walked past him, climbing up the stairs of the main building. He tried to appear as if he was above everybody, so why not at least give him a challenge in doing so.

Tatum had watched as Colby put away his bag before closing his locker, he’d learn soon enough that everyone hid something they shouldn’t in their lockers. It helped when things got stressful, especially on murder Monday. A small smirk had formed on Tatum’s lips at Colby’s comment, but she couldn’t quite tell if he was actually flirting with her, he gave off vibes that he was and wasn’t at the same time. In all actuality she wasn’t sure if she made him nervous and so he was awkward, and it came out as flirtatious but a small part of her really hoped he was flirting with her. Seeing as she had just lost her new boy toy Elias to some family issue she was back to finding a new toy to tease and have fun with, and she had part of her sights set on Colby mostly because she was still angry with Zach for his comments against her.

Tatum let Colby collect himself before deciding where she should take him next, “Well, let’s see Kitten.” She paused for a moment letting her mind think of different places they could go for around the school, “We could go to the library or we could ditch the whole tour and just explore the campus. We only have to be back for the headmaster’s announcement this afternoon.” Tatum wasn’t a great influence, but she didn’t care, some alone time with Colby would help her decide if he was flirting and if her chance for a new boy was real or not. But, she wasn’t going to force him into anything and part of her still hurt because she never wanted to have a fight with Zach and not talk with him, but here she was now and she wasn’t going to let him ruin her happiness and chance to get to know someone new.

Echo wasn’t exactly thrilled to be going to a new school and starting a little late. But of course, her father being her father had dropped the ball and forgot to keep track of the dates and so now she was rushing to get to the school, unpack her bags, and then get to class. Sure, her dad had slipped a little extra cash so she wouldn’t get in trouble but that wasn’t the point this time. All she had wanted was to start school with her friends and now she was being ripped away and really all she could do was blame her parents. If they would let her not be so zen and peace and Earth and instead let her live life how she thought worked for her then maybe she wouldn’t have gotten nabbed by the cops. The whole situation wasn’t really her fault either, but her father was livid and no matter what she had said he wasn’t listening to her. Not anymore at least.

She wished she had more time to unpack but she had managed to get her items into her room and quickly made her way to campus, and really she hoped she would run into either Ian or Liz but right now she felt mostly alone because she had no one around that she knew. She was still so new and fresh at this school and her schedule was confusing. It was like being in a new world and everyone else seemed to know someone and seemed to know where they were going. Echo however had no clue which hall led to which class and this made her first day feel like the worst day of her life so far.

What a shocker, it was the first day of school and Ms. Gibsby didn't bother to show up. Carter had given her the required fifteen minutes, but she knew if Ms. Gibsby wasn't at her desk before the rest of class, she wasn't going to show up. Ms. Gibsby was definitely up there when it came to the odd teachers of Silver Oaks, Carter was pretty sure she was lonely most of the time she was on Christian Single when she would actually bother to show up for class. The rest of the time she was likely too hung over or still wine drunk to show up to teach.

Carter didn't care, its not like she actually taught class, she just held attendance at 20% of the grading and Carter wasn't going to let a missing class bring her grade down.

Carter adjusted her bag on her shoulder, she looked down to pull out her phone. Carter sighed, she hadn't heard from Eli yet today and that started to concern her. 'Maybe I should text him.' She thought briefly to herself, but the thought was pushed from her mind when someone walked into her, knocking her phone out of her hand and onto the ground.

"Fuck." Carter bent down and lifted the phone that hand landed face flat on the ground back into her hand. She breathed a sigh of relief to see that it was unharmed. "thank god." She whispered to herself, she did not need her parents giving her another lecture on taking better care of her things. "Hey you should-" Carter stopped herself mid-sentence before continuing, she hadn't ever seen this girl before.

Normally Carter didn't care about starting off on the wrong foot, but her pool had run a bit small with how much she enjoyed starting fights. "-I shouldn't have been looking at my phone."

"Are you new? You look a bit lost." Carter said plainly, it was easy to spot a newbie within the walls of Silver Oaks, but she looked extra distraught in that moment.

Wyatt Baker

It had been a quiet morning for the most part, but Wyatt wasn't really surprised, even when he was at school no one would show up for Art class. It was pleasant to see somethings never change.

Wyatt was organizing his syllabus that he was sure would be thrown out before the students even left the class. If this was how his year went, it might be a little boring but at least he had a house and a job. He probably should get back into the dating scene he considered, especially if he wasn't going to be doing much.

Getting to know people all over again felt exhausting though.

Wyatt looked up from his papers to see one student had joined his class. "Hey!" He smiled standing up from his desk. "First class today?"

Wyatt wandered over to the boy's desk. "I'm surprised someone even showed up." He chuckled. "I'm Mr. Baker." Wyatt placed his hands on his hips. "Yea, thats still weird to say, you can call me Wyatt, but don't tell Mr. Kaufman."

"So.. Uh.. Welcome to art class." He raised his arms turning to show off the room. "Yea, you really don't have to stay if you don't want to." Wyatt dropped his head. "No one is going to show up to the first day anyways."

Jace Winter Rose had been un-notably absent from Saturday's party. On account of his disinterest, of course. Something something first impressions blah blah kicking off the year or whatever. Jace's mind had been racing all week with thoughts of piston engine aircraft and dogfighting tactics. All he could think about on Saturday evening was struggling with his gamepad while he tried to play Warthunder on his laptop. Drugs, alcohol, and cute girls be damned. He could catch up on the socializing later when everyone else was more or less sober. People were more interesting when they weren't lost in the weed clouds.

Then's later was today's now as Monday rolled around far sooner than he'd wanted. The weekend just wasn't quite enough free time before the start of school. Needless to say Jace was less than enthusiastic about getting ready, taking his time to get dressed and gather his books before heading for the cafe. Once there he may have spent just a bit too much time loitering around, chatting with a few sophomores he'd never met before, before starting to head off to class.

It was only after the bell rang that he realized he hadn't memorized where his classes actually were. With a quiet swear under his breath he quickly rummaged through his bag, pushing books aside in frantic search of his printed out schedule, but to no avail. He'd forgotten it in his dorm.

"Damn it!" Jace swore again, frustrated with his lack of focus. So distracted his thoughts had been with musings on a soon to come out Star Wars game that he'd managed to leave his schedule behind. There was no time to head back to his dorm, he figured, so he decided he'd find his class the old fashioned way: Just going to the nearest available people and asking if they could help him find his class.

It was a bother and super embarrassing, but he had to find his class somehow.

On second thought maybe he should've gone back to his dorm. Fifteen minutes in and he was still none the wiser. Really he should have been much further along by now, maybe even sitting in his class, but none of the other students he'd flagged down knew where his class was either. Before long the halls were empty and he'd had to resort to poking his head into classrooms to ask the teachers. That was a mistake. Jace wasn't sure why, but for some reason some of the teachers at Silver Oak just couldn't seem to stop themselves from launching into pointless lectures. Even when said lecture was interrupting their own class to tell off a random junior for being irresponsible. Honestly, they were hurting his attendance far more than he ever could've. What a pain in the ass.

So now he was fifteen, no, sixteen minutes late and still hadn't the slightest clue about where to find his class. Luckily though it seemed Jace might not have to risk the ire of any more stodgy teachers. By some stroke of luck there were two girls still out on the halls. The redhead he was pretty sure was one of the people who'd started the party on Saturday. He didn't really know the girl but he'd heard her name. Carter. A name often associated with Silver Oak's infamous parties. Jace only very rarely went to parties himself, so he'd never really had much opportunity to get to know much more than that.

The blonde meanwhile looked new. Not just because he hadn't seen her before, but also because she looked lost. She had that newbie air about her... If that made any sense. She was also kinda cute. It probably wasn't the best idea to ask a newbie for help with navigation, but maybe she might have the same teacher somewhere on her schedule or something. It was worthwhile to ask them both, just in case.

"Hey." Jace called as he approached the two of them, the swift pace of his long legs reflecting his urgency. There was no stress in his expression, however, as he put on a friendly smile of greeting. "Can either of you help me find my class? I've got, like, this art class first period but I can't find it." He explained, his plea for help now heavily rehearsed from the other dozen times he'd recited it that morning.

Echo was still turned around trying to figure out where she was in the school when she felt someone collide with her. Her heart stopped for just a moment and then she saw her. The girl was beautiful, and Echo was in a moment of shock until she thought the girl was going to yell at her. It would have been the cherry on top of her bad morning and probably a crummy weak too. But instead the girl stopped and took the blame. Echo was just relieved that someone wasn’t yelling at her. Sure, she was in the middle of the hall and looking down at her schedule but most no one else had been in the hallway so she had thought she would be safe from being in the way. She had been wrong. Nothing new in that department. Echo was just relieved that maybe she had found some help, “Yeah, I’m new. I’m…” she had paused for a moment this was her chance to really be someone new and not live under the stupid name her parents had given her, “I’m Faye.” She smiled at the red head. She looked back at her schedule and was just about to ask for guidance when a male appeared. Did no one actually go to class on time at this school?

He seemed a little distraught too, “I have art first period. My schedule says it’s with a Mr. Baker?” Echo showed the boy her schedule and then looked back at the red head, “Do you know how to get there?” She had decided she was going to cling to the red head who had run into her but then had at least showed some kindness. She still hadn’t learned the girls name, but it was fine. It seemed like the red head was in no rush to get to her classes and Echo was just trying not to die on her first day.

Brayden hadn’t really cared much to go to class on the first day, but it wasn’t like he really had much of an option. Him and Hayden were still awkward around each other, so he decided it was best to just be out of the room for the day. It wasn’t like his roommate was bad they just seemed to not know how to talk with one another. Different walks of life seemed to do that, and it didn’t seem like Hayden really cared too much about anyone except maybe the popular kids. Everyone wants to be popular in some way, but Brayden just wanted to get through high school without another huge mistake, without another huge regret. His attention was brought back when he heard his teacher speak up. He gave a nod at the question and let Mr. Baker or Wyatt as he preferred to introduce himself.

Brayden was silent for only a moment, and he really had nowhere else to be. Tatum said she was busy giving a tour, so he was stuck in class, “It’s fine, Wyatt. I really don’t have anywhere else I need to be. I don’t mind being your only student of the day, makes for an easy first day. Right?” Brayden was only trying to lighten the mood and try and make a good first day for this new teacher, “You seem pretty young for a teacher and you look right around my cousins age. So, Wyatt, why are you teaching art first thing in the morning?” Brayden really was curious because most no one he knew would want to take art first thing in the morning even if it was an easy A kind of class. On the other hand, if he wasn’t going to do an art he might as well get to know his new teacher, it could help him sometime in the future and it’s always good to have at least one teacher on your side when the shit hits the fan.

Carter smirked, newbies always got lost. Usually Carter would tell them to go to the fourth floor, which didn't actually exist. But, this girl didn't seem to deserve a wild goose chase on her first day. She adjusted the bag on her shoulder, "Carter." She looked the newbie up and down. "its nice to meet you Faye." Their interaction was brief before someone else wandered up to them, he seemed just as confused as Faye had but Carter was pretty sure she had seen him around before.

Carter looked over at his schedule and she pleaded with herself, wanting to send him off the opposite direction. But Faye had the same class as him and she just couldn't bring herself to fuck her over this morning. Wow, Carter was caught in a good mood for once and she wasn't sending people off to the Harrow house.

"Mr. Baker? I haven't heard of him." Carter rolled her eyes playfully. "But.. That might just be because I've never shown up to an art class." She laughed lightly. Carter reached into her front pocket and pulled out a joint, rolling it between her fingers. "I could show you to class or we could go have a smoke." Carter smirked devilishly, should she have been trying to convince new students to skip, probably not but what teachers really wanted to be teaching

"No one bothers to show up for art anyways." Carter tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her class had already been canceled so she was on her way out for a smoke anyways. "You might as well join me, as you're both in the wrong building for art." She laughed lightly. "Do either of you have a map on you?"

"Up to you fairy." Carter smirked crossing her arms.

with Tatum Elf_Ruler Elf_Ruler , mention Zach lion. lion. , Elena Soap Soap

Why couldn’t he just be another typical asshole like most guys his age and just blatantly reject someone or take something right in front of him? He’d seen them make being an opportunistic jerk look so easy. But for some dumb reason, he couldn’t be like that, especially when he may or may not have overhead Tatum ranting to his dorm neighbor Brayden about crap that she and Zach were going through since the party. Colby should be kind of glad that Tatum and Zach were in a rough patch now, but he just felt bad for her going through it.

“Well… we’re exploring the school either way,” Colby said, seemingly unaware of them being alone somewhere on campus would lead to something, despite what happened the last time they were two weeks ago. “But you know, off-road tours tend to be a little more fun. I’ve already seen the library before, so surprise me. You’re pretty good at surprises.”

Thinking about the school library made him think about Aeliana—because for some odd reason, Elena was named after the building—and that reminder made him realize there wouldn’t be a chance between him and Tatum. Besides, he had a feeling she and Zach would make up somehow eventually. All Colby could do now was try being gentlemanly and platonically to his tour guide as well as possible, which was why he casually stepped about two feet away from her. Why was being platonic so difficult for him? Who knows.

Grace
tumblr_inline_p38fdmjk6B1rqmlml_250.gifv

The party was... fun. Grace hadn't expected to enjoy it, strangers made the blonde uncomfortable and it wasn't because they were strangers-- well, yes that's exactly why. She just had a knack for not showing how uneasy she actually was. A smile, a few words here and there and boom they were friends, granted, it took a little more time for Grace to be completely comfortable with that person. sure, last night was fun and maybe she made a new friend, but this place just felt... off. Homesick? Probably. But somehow Grace felt like she would be judged more here than in a small town. But was there another reason beyond snotty rich kids?

For Grace? Tons.

Although, maybe she's the one who's being a little judgy. Some of them probably aren't so bad. Grace's gaze followed the girl who just entered the classroom, it wasn't hard to recognize her. The weirdest of weird burning eye-contact the other night was definitely something that stuck-- Oh. And the singing too, yeah. Grace had almost gotten lost in her thoughts, so lost in fact she forgot what her actual thoughts were... Grace adjusted in her seat and tore her gaze away to focus on Mr. Schmidt. The obvious annoyance he had for the other blonde across the room was almost amusing. Despite her many attempts, it was difficult to focus on the teacher blabbering away. Deciding to fade away into her thoughts once again. Maybe some private school kids didn't seem so bad, okay, well, Sawyer didn't seem so bad. Only tuning back in when her name was mentioned.

"Huh?"

"Ms. Jackson, I would think in order to get into an AP class you would have to pay attention, no?" He narrowed his eyes slightly and Grace had lost the ability to speak at all before she snapped herself back into it. "I-" Well, he wasn't wrong. "I'm sorry, Mr. Schmidt... sir?" She cleared her throat and averted her gaze from the rest of the classroom while Mr. Schmidt instructed her to take her seat next to Sawyer and she did, moving her seat slightly away from the other girl in order to create a bit of... personal space. Taking a seat before she held out her hand to introduce herself. "I'm Grace Jackson. But uh... you probably already knew that." She gestured to the teacher before returning her attention back to the brown-eyed girl.

A slight nervous chuckle came from the blonde and jumped to change the subject.

"I like your jacket."

Nice one, Grace.

The party was terrible. Exactly as Elena expected it to be-- okay. That wasn't as true. She expected to have a good time! But no, her something of a something boyfriend was out with the school's second most promiscuous woman out there. Not that Aeliana is the type of woman to shut a party down if she wasn't having fun, but... we could just say she pulled some strings to make sure everyone decided to keep their distance at a good-in-dorms apart. Sure, she mingled a bit, threatened a few loosed ties and over-short skirts to give her the personal space she needed, but it wasn't enjoyable by any means. For everyone else though? Oh, it was such a shame that the teachers broke it up just as soon as Elena made it back to her own dorm.

A free period meant Elena had time to study, but even someone as prepared as Aeliana forgot her books every now and then. It was a short distance to her locker when she noticed Colby with none other than the blonde from the night before. She changed her route ever-so-swiftly and was soon by their side. "Who's good at surprises?" She asked, catching the end of their conversation with a slight grin playing at the end of her lips, a grin that oddly seemed a bit scary if you decided to really look into it.

"My bet would be on Tatum, you never know who'd she be talking up next," Her voice seemed as sweet as it could be, but her gaze told a different story as it focused a little longer onto Tatum before returning back to Colby. Before her words had a chance to make an impact she continued, not wanting to seem so threatening too quickly. "Because she's such a social butterfly, you see. You may think I know everyone, but Tatum is a little bit closer with most of the... people here."

"Forgive me for going on and on, was I interrupting something?" Aeliana hooked her arm through Colby's as though she was making somewhat of a statement between the two after all, they were... something of a something.

God, Elena hated her own generation.

Wyatt had a small smile on his face, first, easy, day. That was usually a lot to ask for from Silver Oaks students, but maybe he would have an easier time than most teachers. He was closer to the students age so Wyatt figured he would understand the students better, after all he was in their shoes not too long ago. "Yea, this is my first year teaching." Wyatt nodded.

"You've got to make money some how." He shrugged sitting at the end of the table. Wyatt hadn't had much planned for the first day, but he was almost sure that he was going to accomplish less than he had planned. "Art got me through Silver Oaks in one piece." He laughed lightly, he was sure it would get around the school rather quickly that he was a past student. "Figured I'd try to give kids the same sort of reprieve. Whether they find it in art, or just within this room."

"Or students can just use this room as a hide away from Kaufman." Wyatt laughed lightly, shaking his head. The amount of crap he had put Longford through when Wyatt was a student, he was a bit surprised that Longford and Kaufman had been so ecstatic to bring him back. "Silver Oaks sure has some special people here." Wyatt thought about the trouble he caused, and the classes he had gone through, like Ms. Gibsby a total shit show. He honestly felt bad for her, but had been trying to avoid her since he got back to campus.

She was lonely and would talk to anyone who gave her the chance to listen, and Wyatt did not want to be her shoulder to cry on the next time she was ghosted. "Yea... Silver Oaks is definitely different from most schools, so if you're ever having trouble settling just let me know. I unfortunately know this school like the back of my hand." He laughed, running a hand through his hair.
