Adrian Thane
Codename: Phantasm
Category: Wild Card

There were many times in his life where Adrian has questioned the decisions that had led him to that particular moment. For example, there was that time he was cornered on the football field and beaten up (afterwards his mom decided to give him some self-defense lessons, none of which really stuck), the time he took his driver's test and crashed right into the instructor's car (obviously, he failed), and (of course) the time he got hit by a truck, died, and came back to life with magic powers. None of those really stood up to fighting a simulation of a wolf-like blob monster alongside a bunch of Magical Girls while wearing a dress. Well, maybe the death thing but other than that this was the most life-decision-question-y moment of his life.

The creature's gooey tentacles flailed all over the place, destroying parts of the simulated city. It was supposed to be a replica of San Francisco, where the real life equivalent of this creature had attacked, but since Adrian had never been there he couldn't tell one way or another. What he could tell was that getting hit by the creature hurt. They said it was only "simulated pain" but he wasn't even sure what that meant. Admittedly, it did stop hurting once the simulation ended but sometimes he felt aches as if he really had been hit.

But back to the point, getting hit by the creature hurt. Adrian knew this because he had been hit by the creature. Straight into a wall. Having superhuman durability (and the fact that this wasn't real) kept him from getting too banged up but it didn't stop the "simulated pain."

Of course, Adrian could have avoided that if he had just phased through the creature's tentacle, but he still hadn't mastered his matter phasing trick and even if he had it was hard to think clearly when you're being attacked by a freaky monster.

He stood up from the ruins of the wall. It was time to retaliate. Hopefully. He focused his energy (or something) and wreathed his hands in a ghostly purple energy. This was a big improvement from where he's been a few weeks ago, where he had trouble summoning even a little bit of power. He stretched out his hands and fired the energy at the monster (secretly he called this power Phantom Blasts). It was a direct hit but it didn't do much more than mildly irritate the thing. Adrian swore.

Codename: Fortress
Category: Guardian

Being the only Guardian of this team wasn't fun, Makavia didn't really do anything to help the group yet, heck she didn't even have her Halberd summoned out yet, so it was pretty obvious that she wasn't even putting much effort into this exercise. Sure, she could put up a shield for the group if she wanted to but that was a lot of effort, and she had speculated that the more force fields she puts up, the less powerful they would be. So, she only really bothered to put a force field around herself as a result has mostly, anything that tried to attack her she would just lett it hurt themselves trying to break their defenses. That wolf creature wasn't the worst threat they had ever faced honestly, plus this was pretty much a basic run in the mil simulation after all, though she supposed she should do at least something besides stand on the sidelines the whole time. So, after a few moments of watching Adrian struggle, Makavia moved forward towards the wolf creature without much of a care in the world, she was pretty sure it wasn't strong enough to decimate their shield after having watched it for a while now though. Her new tactic was to just draw its attention and let it hurt itself attacking them, or just being a human shield for her team or at the very least distract it while her little team tried to take it out, it wasn't a very proactive tactic, but Makavia was rarely ever proactive when it came to tests like these unless pushed to do so, much to the frustration or their teachers and teammates usually.

Name: Kori
Codename: Water Sorceress Aqua

Kori was buzzing with excitement about the training exercise. She'd been working hard on control, but all through the wait she'd been freezing her seat. Everywhere she touched was coated in frost. Now, face to face with the monster, she was excitedly jumping in place. Now it was time to leap in and.... do something.

No time for thinking! It was time to stop it from destroying Fake San Francisco.

Kori blasted right past Makavia, skating right up to the wolf and grabbing a flailing tentacle, freezing part of it. Her tactic mostly worked, and before she could use the fan to break the goo off, she too was flung into the same wall Adrian had crashed into, though her landing somehow managed to look less graceful. She tried to clear the stars from her eyes, but it would be a moment before she could leap back into battle.

"Anyone get the name of that truck...?" Kori mumbled. "Adr- Phantasm! Blast that spot I just froze. I just need a second."

Name: Sasara Kaidou
Codename: Madame Verre
Category: Wildcard

Falling Debris smashes into the ground.
Additionally, a flying, burning tire from a Semi-Truck bounced in searing agony past the half-smashed electric car that Sasara Kaidou was hiding beside.

Nothing that was happening at this moment was particularly pleasant for Sasara Kaidou. You could say it was a bad case of false advertising. The glamour of shopping? The shopping centers were all collapsed. The party life? Everyone was partying in the direction that was away from the tentacle monster. The distinctly American setting? This was feeling distinctly Japanese in all the wrong ways.

As such Sasara Kaidou was taking cover as she digested the situation at hand.

As a magical girl she was generally used working alone. The training program she had gotten herself into was supposed train everyone to work together to defeat real world monster threats. Being able to work as a group was a luxury Sasara wished she herself had when forced to fight in the troubles that happened in her magical girl past. Coming here to work as a team was a good thing. It looked all good on paper.

But...

There wasn't even any teamwork going on here. Everyone had basically lined up to go into the simulation and the simulation started. Everyone was generally doing what they thought they should be doing, but doing so without any coordination with anyone else on their supposed team. In the case of Sasara, she was supposed be drawing cards and casting magic at the big monster like an artillery piece - but even greater than all of those problems there was currently a big issue the magical girl faced.

None of her cards were working.

Sasara had drawn a card from her deck, but it remained blank. A neutral slate that had magic power, but no commands in order to turn that magic power into anything. Perhaps she had to wait a bit longer for it to kick in? Or was is because this monster was a simulation that the cards were not properly initializing?

In any case, the way Sasara was now. She was useless. No cards, no power. As such she resorted to basic survival. Avoid the threat if you're unable to do anything to it.

A uncomfortable smack of one of her members hitting the wall.
One of her teamates' taking the monster's attacks against their barrier.
The small fleeting bits of frost in the air from another ones' frigid assault.

"Please... Come on. Work!"

Sasara waved blank card in her hand in the air like a Polaroid photo. Anything to get things rolling already!

"Adr- Phantasm! Blast that spot I just froze. I just need a second." Kori shouted at him.

Adrian rolled his eyes at this. Not at the command but at the using of his code name. It's not like they had secret identities or anything and everyone present knew their real names anyways. Granted, his code name was kind of cool but he'd never admit it to anyone.

Regardless he summoned more spiritual energy or whatever it was that powered his Phantom Blasts. He once again thrust out his arms, firing off the energy at the frozen part Kori had indicated. It hit, causing Adrian to wonder if accuracy was one if his powers that he didn't know about.

Upon being hit, the ice cracked and the tentacle fell off, causing Adrian to finally figure out Kori's plan. It was just like Terminator 2. The tentacle flailed for a moment before it began crawling back towards the main body. Right. It was just like Terminator 2. They were going to need a lot more ice.

Briana Stevens
Codename: Diva
Category: Powerhouse

Well, this certainly wasn't going well. Two people were actually fighting their enemy and getting slapped around by goo-tentacles, while another was hiding and a fourth was idling behind a shield. Nope, no cohesion at all. Briana couldn't speak either, though. She was just watching the spectacle take place. Truthfully, she just wanted to hurry up and be done with this. She had considered being more proactive, but simulated pain still hurt.

They had finally managed to make some progress when Adrian and Kori managed to remove a tentacle off the beast using a combination of ice and ghost blasts. "Hey! Good work!" she called to them, but then the lost appendage started returning to its host. "Uh oh. Maybe doing the same thing with the head would be better?" Briana suggested.

She couldn't fly like some of others, so she had to walk to position herself near the slime-wolf's head. Her magical girl abilities allowed her to jump along rooftops to take a shortcut. "Alright, here goes nothing!" she said, making a vertical chopping motion to send a blade of kinetic energy towards the beast's neck. She didn't expect it to immediately work but she hoped it would have some results.

Fiora Kent
Excellen Diver
A hero was never late, nor was he ever early. He arrives precisely when he means to. Fiora Kent watched the others battle the simulation’s challenge for them from a distance, crouched upon the parapet of a rooftop of a tall building. From the looks of it, they were doing just fine. It was taking a little bit too long, though. Usually, she’d have this wrapped up. Of course, the simulation was probably basing the beast’s strength off how many they were, just like all the multiplayer games she’d played before. She continued to watch her ‘colleagues’ continue to dish out damage to the beast before she finally straightened up, balancing herself on the precarious edge of the parapet. Trouble was already brewing. Verre looked to be having some technical issues, and none of them were making any meaningful dents on the thing. She rolled her shoulders back and sighed. She wasn’t getting any money out of this, but she might as well get some workout done. Spinning her spear around, she dropped the cross-shaped edge behind her. A red jet blasted forth from the tip of her spear, sending her skywards and forwards.

At the apex of her jet-powered leap, she somersaulted in the air, and swung her spear around, aiming it straight down towards the blob monster that crawled through the false streets. This time, the jet burst fired from the rear tip of her spear, sending her and her weapon screaming straight down, right on top of the monster’s head, an orbital drop straight from the heavens above. She struck home, burying her spear straight into its head. She gripped her spear with both hands, and fired once more blasts from all four of its tips, driving the spear deeper while pumping the monster full of the red hot blaze. From the high-pitched screams of the weapon working overtime to destroy the monster from the inside, one could only just make out the laughter of its wielder.

The monster roared out in probably simulated pain and exploded into goo that covered all of them. Despite the goo not being real it was decidedly gross. But it also seemed like it had worked. Fiora had defeated the monster all by herself.

"Couldn't have done that earlier?" Adrian snarked, pulling goo out of his hair.

Something felt off, though. Usually the simulation ended the moment the monster was dead. Was there a second monster coming their way? Adrian hoped not.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, Adrian saw some of the goop begin to move. In fact, all of the goo was moving, reforming into smaller, though still not insubstantially sized, wolves. Adrian smacked his forehead with his palm.

"Oh come on!"
