Where Giants Sleep

Snapping a picture of the message he found sprawled inside the Tiger statue’s jaws, Elias mirrored Passeri’s example and pressed the send button, adding it to their pool of information.

The Autumn full moon glows white.

Cute. Elias couldn’t help but notice how the line rhymed with the one Passeri found on the Serpent Statue. Were they dealing with poetry? His eyes twinkled in amusement.

Passing messages via memories was certainly safer than doing so digitally, as the latter could be intercepted, but Elias required physical contact to utilize his potential and he didn’t want to keep the others waiting. He wasn’t entirely certain he wanted to reveal the full extent of his potential to the group either. On one hand, Elijah Anamnesis didn’t mind; It would certainly make things more interesting and he prioritized efficiency over keeping his powers hidden. On the other, it would make obtaining memories and information that much more difficult as people would be (rightfully) wary of physical contact with him.

Then again, Isobel Pham already knew. The Tiger King knew. Alice–and the entire sector of Tigers that kept her in a golden cage–knew. He suspected that Passeri Park already knew since every business interaction and handshake with her–after a certain point–was met with gloves. The corner of Elias's lips quirked upward. There was really no way to identify who knew from who didn’t unless they confronted him about it…or he read their memories. Even so, did it really matter? Elias appreciated smart, talented people. Therefore, while he didn’t openly reveal the specifics of his potential to the gang, those who were “in the loop”, who kept an eye on the rookies and were good at piecing things together, would know.

Otherwise, he revealed it when necessary.

Or to the people that interested him.

Stroking the head of the white-marbled tiger statue, as if it were a live cat, Elias read the incoming text messages before leisurely crossing the square to the East side of the plaza, where greenery was more abundant. Purchased lunch and some Heavenly Beast keychains as well. He was in the section of the plaza with many, many stalls, after all. Even if the entire “reconnaissance mission” did turn out to be some wild goose chase, Elias didn’t intend to waste the experience; Getting to know his fellow Albino Tiger gang members was useful in its own right.

Therefore, with a bag of goodies in one hand (which included cold canned drinks, mini-finger sandwiches, sushi, etc) and a phone in the other, Elias strolled through the perfectly cut grass and colorful foliage, following a river, that certainly wasn’t red, until the statue of a Dragon came into sight. Wren, Kenji, and Passeri as well. A warm, beaming smile spread across his face as he lifted the bag of goodies; Fake in nature, as all Elias’s business smiles were, but reality was often how one perceived it.

Besides, if it was more beautiful, he didn’t really have a problem with the fake replacing the real.

“I’ve brought food. Can’t solve riddles on an empty stomach, after all.”

If they didn’t want it, he’d give the leftovers to his employees. Or the random kids running around the plaza. Whichever was more convenient.

Stepping closer to the others, and the Dragon statue, Elias’s sharp eyes picked up the final clue engraved along the body of the mythical edifice and listed them in his mind, by order of seasons:

"Buds of green against the canvas of spring.”
"On rivers red does summer flow."
"The Autumn full moon glows white.”

"In the palms of winter rests the blackest nights."

If only Osamu were around. Having an excellent memory and learning capacity didn’t mean Elias was good at solving riddles. That required a different sort of brain. Then again, the Albino Tiger gang was composed of many, brilliant, opportunistic minds. Elias had little doubt that the puzzle would be unraveled by their motley crew…eventually. For now, the cryptic lines just sounded like colorful, seasonal poetry to him.

Thicker Than Water

It hadn’t taken much of anything to have Kinsley wanting to join the others on this little impromptu crusade. No, not much convincing at all. There was going to be anarchy and fighting. What else was needed to sweeten the deal when the main course already sounded so appetizing? Didn’t matter why, didn’t matter where, the only enticing part of it was going to be the violence. Necessary violence.

Those amber colored strands appeared like a wildfire around her frame, steps rather quiet as they followed behind Damian. A burst of gum she’d been chewing on was heard amidst the screams as it echoed about the building. Blow, pop. Blow, pop. Rinse wash repeat. Kinsley continued focusing on that, never so much as glancing anyone’s way. Her gaze remained midlevel, nonchalant, uncaring, never high enough to truly rest on someone’s face, but not low enough to deter her and cause her to walk into something. There was something about eye contact that really grinded her gears. Too intense. Too personal. And so the fiery haired girl avoided it at all costs unless there was a reason to stare someone down. A damn good reason.

Blow, – there was no pop that followed this time. Instead, Kinsley inhaled the bubble and it deflated inaudibly within her mouth. Look at him go, isn’t it glorious? A voice cackled within her mind, their attention fully on the flailing but powerful tentacles that were causing such mayhem before her. They never stood a chance. A similar voice spoke but this one’s tone was much more somber, teetering defeat, in comparison to the chaotic bordering one that spoke first.

Kinsley’s steps slowed a bit, giving ample room for Damian to do his thing without her being caught in the crosshairs. She knew those tentacles had a mind of their own and once they got started, there was little discerning friend or foe. Everybody seemed to have their shit handled and if they didn’t? Well, that was hardly Kinz’s problem. Serpents weren’t known to extend their hands to others. They merely bit anyone dumb enough to reach out in the first place.

Why aren’t we tearing into them yet? Kinsley merely followed up with a wry smile and a simple, “ There’s still flavor in my gum, “ as she continued to trek forward, following closely behind Damian's serial killer-esque show, ignoring the grotesque surroundings of filth and mutilated bodies. They were no longer recognizable for the most part. She’d be damned if she didn’t finish every last bit of that gum. It was the last piece from a pack she’d so graciously snatched off some bird-brained punk earlier who had mysteriously tripped, then hit his head, and then fallen unconscious, as a repercussion for being too distracted from looking at her passing by. Like mentioned before, Kinz truly hated eye contact.

Waltzing past Peyton, Kinsley offered him a small wave of acknowledgment. It looked more like a hand flick bearing two fingers than an actual wave but hey, it was something. That gum was spat out shortly after, now void of any remaining sweetness and so now useless. A liquidly wave of something seemingly alive began washing over her entire frame to envelop it in pitch darkness, a contrast to the palette of reds that made up her hair. It began at her feet, inching its way up to hide every part that it touched until it became a suit, covering Kinsley from sight.

An ebony hood hid those faded crimson strands but most importantly it hid the frightening face that had taken over Kinz’s once neutral looking expression, for now anyways. Finally glancing up it became all too clear as eyes that were much too wide, inhumanly so, stared out from beneath the baggy hoodie followed by a giant mouth exposing deadly sharp teeth that beamed with deadly intent. Saliva began to drip from each canine before an unnaturally long tongue slid past them, wagging about in the air almost like it was tasting it.

It watched with eager eyes as the octopus man before her started doing some sort of Power Ranger entrance to mimic what it had seen. If it could chuckle or snort, it would have, instead an amused sneer stretched across its perpetually open mouth. A flurry of feathers went flying, though definitely not gentle and soft like one would imagine them to be, as a few collided with her suit. Kinz looked down and watched them get forced out, the ooze becoming flat again once the pointy weapons had clattered to the floor.

Soon a veil of fog began to spread, easily condensed within the space that lacked any good airflow. A nuisance… One said. But I think this makes it more fun. Another said. “ It’s time to…. “ Kinz’s mouth opened even further as she burst forward, body already bulking up to seem bigger than the lithe frame of the woman who had been walking up previously. “ PLAY! “ The voice turned into a loud snarl, beastly and venomous.

Those eyes began adjusting to the new foggy environment, pupils widening and constricting. Kinz began to move freely within the obscured warehouse, bursting out into view beside the Chessmaster as she collided with one of the pawns, fist fracturing its round head into pieces. It was sent flying across the room from the impact, no longer by the woman’s side.

WHOLE WORLD BLIND

Hector stewed while his subordinates spoke around him, shooting each speaker a stare alongside his now strained smile as he waited for them to settle down. Catching an earpiece as it flew his way, he didn’t spare a glance at it, gripping it in his clenched fist, each bony finger quivering under the strain. It was a wonder that it didn’t disintegrate.

When it seemed like everyone had said their piece, he began to pace in front of the crowd.

“Don’t get why you’re questioning it. The little cat is more valuable live, you see. But… you might have your way anyway if they don’t wanna cooperate. She ain’t that special.”

He looked down at Hide, a hint of condescendence showing, like the Hector of past years emerged to taunt his friendly rival. He shifted his glance to Raquel before the emotion could settle, now taking on a more devious expression.

“...Just have some patience.”

This was to everyone, but he had some wisdom for Raquel as well.

“We’ll make sure you have a good meal, Gourmet. I got some intel on a meeting taking place right now, Tiger meeting, somewhere in there. We’ll get you in there and-” He nodded quickly in unspoken agreement with her “-You can work away.”

Hector had enough faith in the gluttonous woman to leave her with that. He knew what she could do already. He shot a quick look at Zach before looking away from him, and while his face wasn’t showing any targeted resentment against him, it seemed intentional as he continued to pace until he reached the newest, and smallest member of the group - Yukito.

“Pluto. I am glad you’re here.”

The one with the cleanest slate, so far only making a good impression on the Queen who smiled fondly at him from above. One of the people Hector was most excited to see in action, ready to put their skill set to good use.

“All that ice. You can take care of a lot of things with that. Crowd control, mobility… and I know you’re capable of the tougher jobs as well.” Hector swiped across his own throat with one finger, as a further indication of his murderous intentions. Bringing his finger away, he pointed back to Hide with a semblance of the same condescendence from a moment ago.

“Think you and Spellbinder will make a good team if he can stay focused that is. We’re all going to pull this off perfectly…. Now Temperer.”

Charlie’s intentions seemed obvious to Hector. Avoiding the killing. Taking the easy route. A coward’s path, but Hector had some respect for the man sticking to what he was confident with. While he still held out hope that the rookie would finally bloody his hands, someone had to do the kidnapping.

“I think I could trust you with that- I know I could trust you…”

He did trust Charlie, but

“...Together there’s no way we’d fail.”

He trusted himself more. Hector could only succeed if everyone succeeded after all.

“And we’ll all have some help from Hawk!”

Hector opened his hand out, revealing the earpiece he had received from Zach earlier, fitting it to his ear.

“Our eyes, our ears, our sniper come prepared. I’ll call you to get in there if needed but… support’ll be good. And of COURSE, you’ll be paid your dues for all your hard work.”

Leaning in closer, he lowered his voice, though all could hear him anyway.

“And if you have any problems with the jobs we’re doing, how’s about we have a chat about it when we’re back at HQ, and we can gain some understanding of each other.”

He stepped back, now facing the whole group once more, catching his breath from the manic speech.

“I’ll say it again. Anything else to say, say it now. Hope we’re all happy now.”

THE DRAGON AND THE PHOENIX

The time had come. Maho was honestly a bit surprised to be considered for such aN important mission. It must be her magical calling to have been chosen. She’ll purify the the Azure Dragon Leader and all will be well with him. Looking down at her fists she smiled, “just one good smack,” she whispered to herself as she followed along with the rest of the group. She could do this Maho felt her belief rise up in her chest as she pumped herself up, eyes bright and excited to finally face her mission. Watching her leader head off with what she assumed was the Dragon’s Leader Shen, placing a finger to her lips she pouted. “Aww, I wanted to go too.”

Watching him leave she continued to catch up with the others, her pace slowed as she looked out at the ruined bridge, the one that took her life and memories of drowning over and over. The crushing weight of the cold and the small bubbles of oxygen the last she had held in her lungs rose up into the deep blue waters, a shiver shot down her spine. Shaking her body, the tips of her pigtails bounced as she shook the nerves out her. Looking out at the Dragons across from them she glanced at their faces trying to gauge their thoughts. Noticing a few staring back she smiles at them and waved wildly, mouthing ‘I’m gonna punch your boss and save the world!’ Smiling brightly as she gives a thumbs up with the other hand. Watching the others gang’s reaction she lowered her arm and leaned back stretching her arms as she looks over at her other gang members. Being new she should have met most of them beforehand, she was invited to attend most of the events, and had every intention of joining in. However, her very short attention span seemed to keep her from remembering most of the outings she was planning to attend. Instead spending her time and money filling the shower with rubber duckies having a wedding.

Looking over at one of the newer phoenix’s named Ron as she spoke up Maho tilted her head and watched the duo talk to each other about standing around. Watching them converse she looked a bit left out as they were playing games on their phone. “Aww I want to play. But I broke my phone. No fair.” She Leans over the shoulder of the duo peeking at their screens as they play her head popping over one shoulder to another trying to find the best angle.

Distracted by their games she stops as from the other side she looks over as one fiery headed boy on the Dragon’s side exclaims they’re bored. Confused, her eye widened as he began to sing, a wild smile grew on her face as he began to sing. “I didn’t know there was a concert!” Scrambling over she got closer to him and began to jump and cheer. “Woo! Yeah! Free entertainment is the best!!” Twirling her skull mace from behind her back, she happily waved it like a rabid fan at a concert.

Watching as a member on her side went toward the singer she hopped over to behind the redhead and nodded. “Yeah yeah no touchy.” Copying his movement as she seemed to agree with him answering every question he asks at the end of his sentences. “Right right. Yeah! Much more fun!”

Her attention turned quickly to the loud exclamation of Vulkie from behind her she bent backwards and looked over at the dragons and her eyes grew wild. “A drama show too?! Is it a telenovela?! Why isn’t this in Spanish?” Twisting around to watch the scene unfold she sat down, legs crossed, to see the scene unfold. Enjoying every reaction between the two her head looks from one to the other. Tugging on Hou’s pant-leg she leans back, looking up at him, and muses happily. “I wish I had popcorn for this. I love telenovela’s.” Looking back at the girl she shouted loudly, “ARE YOU SECRETLY PREGNANT WITIH HIS KID?! OR DO YOU HAVE A EVIL TWIN WHO IS?!”

Thicker Than Water

“Huh.”

Despite herself, Sabrina’s lips quirked upward as Damian mirrored the movements of the so-called ‘Chessmaster’ before moving in to assist the Shortie that had charged into the fray. Or, perhaps, he’d found himself entranced by her flamboyant movements. Kraken was a man driven by his curiosity, after all. A gruesome beast that lacked a moral compass, one with no real inhibitions, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t kind–enough to pick her up from an embarrassing stint at a concert anyway. His interest in music, as well as his easy-going personality, made him one of her few friends in the Sable Serpent gang.

Did she trust him?

No more than Valerie Steinburg, whom she was certain only saw her as one of the pieces on the woman’s board, but that itself didn’t matter. Debts owed she repaid. Everyone growing up in the North District came saddled with one issue or another–from Bash’s anger to Tri’s psychotic impulses. At least Damian didn’t demand anything of her.

The Sable Serpent gang was home to the strong. Everyone she respected within the group of gangsters crawled their way out of the gutter and carved themselves a place in the North District’s dominant Underworld force. Therefore, if there was one thing Sabrina trusted about the people she ran with, it was that they were strong. Strong enough to deal with the new arrivals. Sabrina didn’t know many of them–new rookies like the white-haired guy and the Shortie especially–but she didn’t need to. Sabrina only participated in the gang activities that interested her. New gang members were getting killed and recruited (made) all the time. Getting attached, like the case of the current Queen towards Raph, was only a hassle. It caused mistakes to be made.

Valerie always told her to be cautious.

But who the hell cares? Her life was hers to live.

Kyoden’s blade leveled at the grinning, masked man, Sabrina didn’t look away from her target even as he called for 'Chester', 'Peacock', and 'Romero'. Even as the red-haired Symbiote charged towards the flamboyant new arrival and their pawns, following Damian. “Guess that’s three.”

The buzzing around her grew even louder. Crackles of static echoed like the chirping of thousand birds as she drew electromagnetic energy within her own body, enhancing it and causing it to glow golden, illuminating even through the miasma that started to spread from an unknown source. Her short hair stood on end. People that carried metals with them were easier for Sabrina to sense. However, every human body produced a minor electromagnetic field that she could sense if she focused.

Therefore, even if she couldn’t entirely see her target, it wasn’t difficult to tell where he was. Sharp feathers that tried to enter her field found itself repelled as she upped the magnetic force.

1.

2.

3.

Like a bolt of lightning, Sabrina closed the distance between herself and the tattoo-chain user, Kyoden’s blade slicing like a blur towards the enemy’s neck. “If you aren’t going to talk, you might as well die.”

The Dragon and the Phoenix
Yong-Yut met Maho’s nosiness with a glare, rolling her eyes once the girl found other people to bother. Unfortunately, that people —person— was a Dragon, who apparently thought this was a great time to sing. She looked up from her phone to look at said Dragon, watching as Kanna and her accompanying Ace stepped up and attempted to shut him up. He continued, but— Yong-Yut didn't really care.

Also attempting to shut him up, though, was the redheaded idiot Yong-Yut called a best friend, and Helva. Fucking Helva.

Yong-Yut’s eyes flickered to the Oni she was playing games with before the demigirl put her phone away. “Sorry, hold on.”

She turned around, finally noticing the Dragon that was causing a scene, who, for whatever reason, decided to drag her into this. They scoffed, but a sigh quickly followed, with Yong-Yut opting to not take that personally.

She made her way to Kenny, Helva, and her lackeys, stepping around to get to them. She gently tilted her head to the side, whispering to Hiyma. “Keep your dog” —she gestured to Helva— “under control.”

Fixing her posture, the scarf around her neck balled up at the end, moments away from lightly hitting Vulken in the back, before the nosey pig-tailed girl yelled at the Dragon in front of them. She paused.

Not only was the shout completely unnecessary, and hurt a little, but it was also so. embarrassing. And— ah, was the girl on the wrong side?

In an attempt to salvage the situation, she stepped forward to the woman —who apparently knew Vulken— and the other Dragons, holding her hands out like she was trying to tame a wild animal. “Sorry, sorry about them.” She scanned the girl up and down, racking her brain for which girl this was. Vulken knew a lot of girls, and, to Yong-Yut’s dismay, told her about all of them. Especially their descriptions.

This girl in particular had warm, soft-looking skin with a dragon tattoo plastered on the shoulder, a slim but toned figure, and… boobs. Ones that she’d heard too much about, really.

But, clearly, this could only be one girl.

“Uh… M…..” she thought, “Meirin, right? Greetings. I’m Yong-Yut. He’s told me a lot about you. I apologize if this idiot, or anyone, did anything to wrong you. I hope personal matters don’t ruin a potential renewed entente.” She lowered her arms, clasping her hands together. “I promise you, he wouldn't use you, if you thought he would. He’s too dumb for that.”

Her silver eyes shifted to Vulken’s face. “I’m hoping we can keep this civil while we continue to wait. I wouldn’t want to disappoint either of our Kings. You know, since this is meant to be a peaceful meeting,” she dragged out the last sentence for Helva. She looked back at Meirin. “Maybe keep our voices down, too,” she mumbled. She wouldn't want them to influence their Kings, if they could even hear them from here. For a moment, she looked worried. When will they be back?

Akira, not much to say about him that hasn't already been said, though she wasn't exactly fond of the sleazy guy, she did know that he was a player in the game to watch out for, and just seemed annoyingly crafty at that. Though the reason why she accepted this assignment from him, she honestly didn't remember, was it information perhaps? a favor? no she wouldn't put herself into his debt. Maybe it was cause for once in her life she hadn't really had anything to do, no work from Charmy or Camilia, yeah that seemed to make more sense to them. She dreaded the walk to Akiras office and made a solid effort to avoid Kiwis work area, wanting to steer as clear away from them as possible, sadly their boss Akira wasn't someone they could properly avoid. She couldn't help but scratch her arms in anticipation, soon noticing the scratch marks she was making on them, but she really didn't care all that much only really stopping once she had fully entered Akiras office.

Now in full range of Akira, she tensed up at the sight of him but still maintained her typical smile, his cheery attitude unnerved them a bit, but their question made them tilt their head, three districts? She supposed West and Central were not on the list, She couldn't stand the Dragons in the East, but the Phoenixs probably still held a grudge against them in the South. Dante had already taken North before she could, but that left them with only two options, still though trying to Haggle for Central wouldn't hurt "Well i don't really wanna go to the East or South, any way i could haggle for Central? if not i guess i could go East." Welshas attention then focused back onto Dante once he began to speak, a good question that she wanted to know the answer to as well "I concur, on what he said, you didn't really give much information, plus i don't recall telling us about the reward you would be giving us once it's complete?" The question she asked was a bit important since it would decide how she goes forward from here, money wasn't exactly important to her right now, her Tiger fees were gonna be paid if she got money from this mission or not, she wanted something more useful something she could utilize or anything of that sorts.

THICKER THAN WATER
She was upset enough that she had to withdraw from here earlier, but the August character had provided her with reason enough to draw back and call the cavalry. It would be a lost cause if she had went in alone. She’d decimate half of the compound, but it was not enough. She wept at her own weakness. What kind of Prince of Monsters was she set out to be if she could not even rescue her own friend? She cursed her own weakness. The proud and the strong need not reinforcements, and yet here she was, flanked by others. Who were they to Raphael? All she had heard in the past few days had been ill words, laughter at his demise, apathy to his disappearance or, hell, even his death. How dare they? How could they? She was furious, she wanted to rip their throats out, and force it down their maws, let them taste their own words, but she held herself back. Even now, she doubted even HALF of the gathered forces here were even interested in bringing back their comrade, only blindly listening to their King’s orders. She held it in. She held it all in. She must maintain her composure, even if the ringing in her ears, the voice in her head screaming bloody murder at her to tear this place apart, brick by brick, tile by tile. She would not lose herself. A monster she may be, but she was a noble one, after all. She was still Prinz Gyoushi, Prince of Monsters, and a King does not lose herself to her emotions. She drew in a deep breath and followed her comrades into the compound. Her head was pounding, and Caio’s orders were lost to the drumming and the ringing. She could not hear him, and it was well that she did not- she already had the same idea in mind.

It did not take long for them to be beset by security. A number of them were dispatched handily, but a few remained to bar their path. Kisara watched with what seemed like disinterest as the battle broke out in front of her, her arms hanging limp by her side. Six months. Six goddamned months. This was the place that he had been trapped in for six fucking months. Her horns flickered, then slowly lit up. This was where he was, and she couldn’t even find him. It took her this long to find him. She was a failure. What Prince let her subjects down? What Prince let her subjects suffer such ignominy? She gazed around, her eyes unfocused. They were talking. They were chatting. They weren’t taking this seriously at all. This was all a game to them. This was just some normal thing to them. The only one that she could see that was taking this anywhere seriously was Caio. Her heart burned. Her eyes clouded over, the drumming in her head intensified ever harder. “Shut up. Shut up, shut up, shut up.”

SHUT THE FUCK UP!” Her nails dug deep into her palms. She bared her teeth, a snarl on her lips– no, it was no simple snarl. A low hum accompanied it, a bass rumbling from within. Her neck glowed with an ethereal indigo, her horns and scales rippled with electric energy. “GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY, MORON!” She swiped at whoever was standing in front of her, blind to their faces, blind to their features, shoving them aside, as she opened her mouth, the hum rising in pitch, drawing higher and higher, until it was like a knife slicing through the eardrums of all those who heard it. All at once, she unleashed a beam from her mouth, blasting anything and anyone who stood in her way. She angled her head wildly, drawing her beam across the place, swiping and slashing with reckless abandon.

Prinz Gyoushi had no place here. Here and now, she was Kisara McDowell, and only Kisara McDowell.

Noa looked at Suzu and gave her a amused grin towards upon seeing them stutter a bit over their words, finding her to be simply adorable, Noa gave out a low chuckle when they announced they liked their outfit, this was mostly just a outfit she threw together so she figured it must of been polite and waved her off with a grin "Glad you like it then, this isn't exactly my best outfit to be honest, personally found it a bit dull, i mostly choose it cause i really didn't care if it got damaged or anything." . Though her attention soon turned to the other woman who was here, and started giving them some information, when the woman was done giving details, and allowed them to walk around on the inside of the bar. Noa followed the others inside and watched as Ryoma and Suzu both did their own investigating, their own bodyguard didn't move in to help them instead just kept to Noas side, though it was to be expected she supposed. Honestly, to her, the place was a mess though, but it didn't really look like their was too much of a struggle or fight to her, or else it would of been even messier, unless Hitoshi didn't have a chance to put up much of a fight before being taken. She watched as Ryoma and Suzu went on to do their own investigating, before turning her attention to the Civilian Lady, moving closer to her, she gently grabbed her hand and placed other hand on top of theirs, before giving them a nod of their head before then stating. "Hello, i'm Vali, i would just like to thank you for looking after Hitoshi, it really means a lot to us, if you ever need anything don't be afraid to contact me." Though she was more popular known as Poena, she gave the woman the name she wanted to be called rather than the one she was but she also was sure to give her, a warm smile before releasing their hands and heading to work.

Honestly investigations weren't her strong suit, Linxals like Helva were way better at them than she was, but she supposed she had to do something to help, it wasn't everyday that she would leave the confines of her home, Tattoo Parlor or Aquaworld just to do a hands on mission. She usually had others to do that for them, it was annoying but she wasn't really one to quit, easily. So with her bodyguard by her side she looked around the room more closely, until she heard Ryoma ask the nice lady a question as if trying to confirm if it was Hitoshi or not, Noa was a bit confused on why they would ask that at first. But then figured that he probably thought that Hitoshi was a fake or something like that, it wouldn't be too weird considering HPs existing and all, but she wasn't sure how they would of been able to escape from here when the windows weren't open and the woman would of likely saw them if they exited through the regular route. Though before Noa could say anything she watched as Suzu started messing with the laptop, placing a Riot shield between them and it, perhaps expecting it to explode or something. She couldn't help but chuckle a bit at their antics but turned back towards Ryoma half expecting him to take the lead of the things happening here, since he was pretty much the most senior person here.

With a stern face boring into the ceiling, he wouldn’t have looked excited to anyone outside his head. The seconds drawling by had crippled his patience. Convinced sleep would not return, he rolled over and disabled the alarm an hour before it would beep. It almost felt like he was going back to school; being up early in the morning, half-hurriedly grooming and dressing himself for the day, and he almost threw on his backpack. A shoulder in he realized the slavery to routine and he slid the bag off onto the floor. There weren't any tools or things he needed to bring with him besides the katana he would wear on his back. Yukito left the Mizuya house after telling his parrot to hush, the window shut behind him, footfalls fading from the roof.

As big a night this would be, there was no need for fancy clothing, something practical and comfortable would do for the rookie. An oversized hoodie over a tank top and cargo shorts. No shoes, all service, snow and ice already gloved his hands and sleeved his feet. A thin sheet covering half his face as a mask. He could have chosen to fly, but that was something that would attract any early risen eyes. Yukito traveled to the meeting place by bike and walked up to the level a majority of them gathered. As he saw more people, he assessed the faces from what he knew and experienced during their hurrah just a few days preceding. It had been a little hard to recall some of the it, having been encouraged to drink and complying. The mojito was fine but then after that it kind of blurred and skipped like a damaged tape. Faces were remembered as were some exchanges, but there were conversations recorded as if he were a fish listening to a person on the other side of a fishbowl.

(Hector) “Welcome everyone. I trust you’re all prepared for this. If you have anything to say, now’s the time.” Yukito was as prepared as he could be, he was a fresh addition, but resolute in todays attack. Turquoise eyes had been pretty stoic up until the point of Charlie -Temperer- asking his question. He was startled it had been asked, was Temperer not confident in his abilities? Why would a Phoenix otherwise be hesitant on the matter, because surely the ability to kill and remain yourself was something tested prior to getting your colors. As Pharaoh addressed the blue haired freshman, he started to find it more likely that the guy was averse to killing. That was puzzling.

The rest of Pharaoh's information was interesting. He wasn't going to question it, he (Yukito) was new, he was someone who was going to be the least in the loop, he had only to trust and follow through on this expenditure. If she was valuable it made sense to use her, but what for was what had him wonder, he didn't take the Phoenixes as a group interested in money, at least not like the cats they'd be stripping from their paper. From among the group he could both hear and see the traces of discontent at the capture over kill, even if it was one tiger among the lot that'd be in the casino. The cannibal spoke, and despite the reputation of such an adjective, found her thoughts and voice human and reasonable. Her concern about wasteful killing obviously stemmed from not being able to eat all the bodies that would come from this. Though he imagined many would perish, Yukito wasn't certain all could be killed. So many cats, there were likely to be some that would flee to preserve those nine lives. Or at least should consider it. Not to mention how capable the HPs would be in holding their own.

A pink haired man, came strolling up almost with as dramatic an entrance as what he poked fun of. Yukito not fond of the comparison to the Serpents, having quite a distaste for them himself. Yukito caught the earpieces that flew his way as Hawk tossed them and tended to Temperer's confidence and security. The man Yukito defined easily as someone for theatrics, but very capable, and as mentioned he'd be great for a pair of eyes, Yukito would remember that. Yukito wasn't sure if Charlie was just trying to avoid killing still or if he was really applying his abilities for its best use. Pharaoh mentioning that she wasn't that special further confused him, and suddenly he is thankful he doesn't have to handle whoever this questionable piece is. Between Gourmet and Pharaoh, he hypothesizes she would be carving up that meeting room into a meat locker.

Pluto. He almost did not recognize his codename, whether given to him or chosen, it felt strange. Pharaoh made his job clear, sort of, except he didn't know what it was that Spellbinder could do, he hadn't even met him until today. What, is he a wizard? The questionable 'if he could stay focused' was not assuring. Pharaoh was starting to seem either very faithful in his subordinates and family or very stupid and smart at the same time. Maybe Yukito should exercise some of that faith, he wasn't going to change anything even if he didn't have the same faith as Pharaoh, and he knew he didn't have to have the whole picture at this point in his scarlet career. His speculations could take the backseat until more could be learned about his new family. But there were some things that couldn't wait for the sake of success. He waited until Pharaoh concluded and opened the floor again. It wasn't something he think everyone needed to standby and wait on, but he wanted to secure an understanding between him and his partner.

“Spellbinder.” He looked pointedly at Hide, the person Hector had gestured to when handing them their assignment, “I'm not familiar with your potential. You know I can use ice, what am I working with?”

A crooked grin was on Raquel's face before she suddenly spun and rose from where she sat. "In that case, it'll be lickety-split. That's what they say nowadays, don't they?" With confirmation coming from her adored Hector, Raquel was elated to be able to feast and sample multiple types of meals. Even better since Hector basically said she didn't have to be worried about their target. All she needed to do was follow her own tune and critique the Tigers on how they tasted like.

Now to mention, her little brother was here! What would Big Sis do if she were to make a small mistake in front of her younger sibling? Raquel shot a glance at the white hair Rookie before returning to her grandeur thoughts of meals.

Otouto and her were well acquainted. After all, it wasn't the first time Hector dropped a baby in front of her. It took some time to process, but she liked the young man. It was a shame that people usually wouldn't allow her to sample some of their flesh. It would grow back anyway, so what was the big deal? Though a fledgling was still a fledging. She didn't know if white mop could even take care of her cute, adorable little brother; if Hector deemed so, then so be it.

"Hmm? Temperer's gonna go with you? No fair..." Raquel whined as she heard Hector was going to accompany blue tail to catch their client. Why Hector would pick the blue Rookie above all was beyond her, but maybe he could put the defective fledging to use. "I still haven't forgiven him for what he did to me last time." She hugged herself tightly but left one of her eyes open to glare at the Rookie.

After what he did during his punishment, Raquel had mixed feeling about him. "Well, it's whatever. Good luck on your job, Temperer." As flippant as ever, Raquel walked over toward the unsuspecting Yukito.

"Surprise!" She yelled as she threw her arms around Yukito's shoulders. She leaned closer to her little brother. "Oh, poor little brother. Having to deal with the big bad maniac. I think he has a few screws loose." She shot a look at dove head. A smile adorned her naturally cute features. "Mr. Spellbinder! Make sure to take off my little brother! Or else..." A small blush formed. "I might come on to you."

Zachary could see how hard Hector was trying to contain his anger so he held back the snigger. Mostly. What resulted came out as a cough and wide grin as he held his hands out in front of him, shaking his head rapidly and taking a step back–a clear indication that he had no desire to fight for Phoenix leadership. “No, no, no~ I’m perfectly happy!”

He was getting paid to kill, after all. It was like any other job. Though, even if he wasn’t being paid, he would’ve joined the raid as a favor for Family. Just do things his own way. It seemed the new queen had at least put some thought into the attack other than ‘I want to strike back at the Tigers for taking my eye’. Impulsive moves like that were what caused the unnecessary death of ‘Family’.

Granted, it wasn’t as if he hadn’t seen the calculated assault on Lyric’s house; The fight that left the previous Queen comatose. Revenge it might be, but if they did nothing in return, that said a lot about the Scarlet Phoenixes as well.

Pushing up his sunglasses, Zach set up the tripod, putting the long-ranged rifle in place as Hector spoke to the others. Or the others spoke to the others.

Regular bullets for NPs.

Poisoned bullets for Hps.

Sleeping bullets.

Cannons in case of emergencies.

Snipers like him had to be prepared, after all. He checked all his equipment while speaking to Helva’s sponsoree. “Since Queen Pharaoh's going with you, I doubt you’ll need my directions to the Tea room. Best of luck, my dude. You’ve seen it at the mall. Don’t let yourself get trapped in Wonderland ~”

Looking up, Zach smirked teasingly, revealing that he’d seen the entire thing, while keeping ‘it’ fairly vague. Frankly, he wasn’t sure how much Charlie had revealed to the Scarlet Phoenixes regarding the attack on the mall that day nor did he know the extent of the boy’s ‘punishment’. What he did know was that Helva likely took some sling for her sponsoree’s disobedience. The ‘Family’ was quite complex. Zach joined, at 16, because he needed quick money that someone his age could procure. After his first kill, he’d been treated like ‘family’. He’d sworn his loyalty like everyone else…even believed them to be his second family.

However, after his argument with Lyric, he began to question what family really meant to him.

His “Death” had been to find the answer.

Zach addressed the rest of the group. “There’s one particular Tiger I’ve noticed that stands out from the rest, mainly because I can’t really get a read on his potential. He seems to do a lot of things. Or rather, he has a lot of forms. Watch out for him. Otherwise, ya’ll should be able to handle the others~”

Probably.

Zach shrugged before settling in a corner near the window and pulling out his phone once he was done setting up. “Have fun trashing things, guys~I'll be here if you need me.”

If the main goal of the raid was to kidnap a Tiger, then the others were just a distraction. In that case, Zach could pull the retreat signal once the goal was achieved. However, it wasn’t as if Zach knew what Hector’s main goal was. Did he just want revenge for his eye? Was he trying to make a statement? Did he have other plans?

Did it matter?

At the end of the day, those comprising the Albino Tiger gang were not good people. Therefore, there was no need to feel bad kidnapping or killing a Tiger. Civilians were a different matter. But then, Zach had killed civilians for money as well. One politician wanted another politician dead and came to the Scarlet Phoenixes. Not a new story by the long shot. If leadership approved, the job would be handed down to whichever phoenix could handle the task–and they would be compensated for the success.

That was why he’d sworn his loyalty to his ‘Second Family’. For money.

But of course, with cute girls like Helva and Merkola Singallo, it was hard not to get attached. Cute boys as well.

Hide narrowed his eyes at the pink haired maniac. I mean- only douche's wore sunglasses inside! Also, why the hell was this bastard getting so chummy with Charlie? The scarred boy couldn't help but feel a wave of possessiveness wash over him. He glared even further at his friendly tone, snatching the earpiece that was thrown to him. He clicked his tongue with a roll of his eyes, grumpily shifting it into his ear. "Whatever.. fuckin' prick..." He pouted even further, crossing his arms petulantly.

He squinted at Hector in suspicion. He wasn't sure if he could believe him... After all, if she wasn't all that special as he so says- then why bother even wanting her alive? Contradictory words only frustrated him further. A loud huff of breath escaping his nostrils.

Hide's eyes widened as the one eyed queen's finger pointed to him. No way... no fucking way. He shot a quick, slightly panicked glare towards Yukito, but quickly turned his attention back onto Hector. He mumbled under his breath, "For fucks sake..." His. eyebrows furrowed, chin brought up in defiance. "I can keep fucking focused!... Bastard..."

The sleep deprived man shot a glare at Raquel, scowling. WHAT THE FUCK did she just say to him?! Come onto- unable to withstand his confusion and astonishment, he blurted, "HUHH?!" What the hell did she mean by that? He shuddered. That chick gave him the fucking creeps... A dumbfounded bout of laughter overtook him, seemingly unable to stop until his abs clenched and ached. He sighed, the smile swiftly diminishing in a second. He glared before a plain last, "Hah." Left his lips. Who the fuck did she think she was? Cannibal or not- he was going to fucking kill her...

Having previously ignored what the shorter man had said to him, he turned his attention back, the glare still residing in his mismatched eyes. A slow smile crept over Hide's features, though the anger and sharpness still remained in his narrowed gaze. Arms still crossed, he bent down at the waist, mockingly, like he was talking to a child. A tilted his head, a condescending kindness making his voice light, "Spellbind." He gave Yukito a blank expectant smile, like that one word should have answered everything ever questioned. He straightened back up, arms uncrossing as his expression become bored, no longer paying all that much attention to the other white haired boy. Did walls always look that bumpy? With a brief pause, he explained further. "With a touch I can make people obsessed with something. Whether it be another person, myself, or an object. "

He glared down at the other, interrupting before he could get a word in. "And no! I can only do something physical. Not an action or ..shit. Like making someone obsessed with picking their nose or some shit... Can't do that..." He lifted a finger, once again not giving the other a way in, "BUT!" He bent down once again, crouching this time to get eye to eye with Yukito. "Too many people and too much of my potential driven into them?" He placed the tip of his finger on Yukito's nose. "Bad news for me. I'll go batshit." He gave him a close eyed smile, standing up. "That answer your question dipshit?"

THE SUN IN THE GUTTER

Each individual blood vessel that surrounded Yuna’s head pounded. She had only 2 hours of sleep that day and it was after she spent more than 24 hours awake the day before, working and then partying like an animal. She didn’t realize she even had a job to do today until the alarm blared in her ears two hours into her deep sleep. She was in denial first and slept for an extra 30 minutes till her eyes suddenly flew open and her brain randomly registered what she had to do.

She got ready pretty fast, and wore basically the same thing to every job, a black baseball hat, some black leggings, a black hoodie and some black running shoes. It was simple and did the job pretty well, most of them were too gruesome to wear anything normal anyways. Even this hoodie has a few stain marks …

She had been stuffing herself with an abundant amount of granola bars as she walked towards the lab after having to cram herself into a tiny space in public transport. Admittedly, she had completely forgotten why she was here, she didn’t have much of a clue on where she was going either. She had been still too high and hungover from the night before and the world around her was still pretty blurry, but the food in her system made it manageable for her to at least walk normally. She was more focused on staying awake to get there, she’ll figure out the rest there.

As she managed to find her way in smoothly, she walked down the hallways seeing if she could find a familiar person, or just a person to ask where to go. The hallways smelled … Gross. She slipped on a black mask to help with it a bit. She had a bit of a sensitive nose as it was, it was the only thing that made working for the Serps unbearable.

After walking around for a bit, she heard some muffled voices and decided to follow them, as she got closer, one of them sounded a bit familiar, especially when they were calling someone else’s name louder. She slowed down a bit in case she was about to walk into some trouble but was surprised to see a woman turning a corner, and having her name be called out. She stayed out where she was just in case but heard a familiar voice, walking towards the sources slowly.

And so, it was settled. In a sort of small, halfway victory, Hector agreed for Charlie to take care of the kidnap, except with one caveat that Hector would be joining him. There was no way out of this for him, he was going to at the very least kill someone today. It was the true nature of a Scarlet Phoenix, and he knew it, he knew all along.

"Yes, Queen"

There was no use in arguing further on something that was already sealed.

Gourmet voiced her displeasure about the pairing, although it didn't sound all the serious, as she spoke with the same playful tone that she used before in their prior, and first, meeting. She also started to joke, calling back on the events of said encounter. What did he do to her exactly, bore her to death? Even with the awful things that the phoenixes were capable of doing on a regular basis, Charlie was still able to look over those things, and retain an overall positive view on all members of the gang...Except for Gourmet. Even if you ignored the atrocious fact that she ate human beings, there was still a very sadistic joy to her ways, she didn't just murder and devoured, she rebeled on it...He would know, he saw it happening with his own two eyes, her blissful expression as she was soaked in a defenseless person's blood.

"...Yeah, good luck to you too."

Zach spoke, which caught Charlie's attention, he spewed ominous words in the shape of a warning. What was most strange was his use of the words "Mall" and "Wonderland". The fight at the mall that took place several months ago was a pretty well-known event amongst the Scarlet Phoenixes, and in fact, it brought to the boy a fair amount of both renown and infamy among his peers. Not fully catching the true message behind it, Charlie just saw it as a warning about the dangers of fighting unknown enemies.

"Uh...Thanks, I'll keep it in mind."

Now that the vertically challenged boy, who apparently went by Pluto, was assigned to be paired up with Hide, everyone in the room finally had their roles established. Charlie walked to a nearby wooden box, which who knew it had inside (could very well be the home of a family of rats, even), and sat on it, attempting to take the last few minutes of peace they had, before vengeful royalty decided it was time to strike. He pulled out his phone, and unexpectedly, a single notification was displayed on the screensaver: A message from Alice, no less! He wasted no time to read it.

After the mall incident, Charlie got worried sick about Alice, as he basically left her at the mercy of the Albino Tigers. That is, until about a month later, the girl finally got in contact with him. From that day onwards, they remained in constant contact, pretty much texting each other everyday. Charlie finally got to properly know the mysterious girl he met that one rainy day in Central, he found out that his first impressions of her were not rose-tinted. She was a legitimately sweet and kind girl, of only a bit naive about the world...And truth be told, Charlie would be lying if he said he wasn't charmed by her. A fact that turned sour as he remembered the huge wedge between the two, one in the shape of the gangs of New Oasis. But still, they tried to at least make their friendship work, he noticed that she would avoid talking about the tigers, and him, in turn, would about ever mentioning the phoenixes. It honestly got to a point where it felt like their conversations served as a refreshing getaway from the gang life which at this point had enveloped every other aspect of his life.

Hey Alice! I'm really glad to hear your appetite's back, I was a bit worried when you mentioned it a while ago, but I guess it was fine after all! I'm glad to hear you made a new friend, that Nico sounds like a nice guy, though I'm a bit envious he may get to try those sweets you show me all the time! Also, got to say a bit embarrassed, you really don't need to thank me! I really enjoy our conversations, they help me more than you would think n.n

As for me, well, I'm doing fine! Last few days were a bit tense is all, but I'm a lot better now, I actually met with a few friends just now, we're going to hang out and have some fun, maybe I can get to flex my karaoke skills, they like it so much their faces scrunch up in joy, haha! Anyways, I got to go now, but please, Alice, don't forget that I'm here if you ever feel sad, I promise to do my best to have you smiling again if that happens!

He tapped on the "Send" button and let out an audible sigh. He hated lying, specially to those close to him, but what else could he possibly say in a situation like this. But either way, he was finally ready for whatever came next, or rather, he had to be ready whether he liked it or not.

The Dragon and the Phoenix

Helva watched as one of the Dragons reprimanded the singing rookie, Helva gave them a low scowl when they gave a signal towards them, not caring much for the meaning of it, even though they could probably make a accurate guess if she really wanted to. To her the Dragons were still their enemies, even if they go into a small armistice, they would always be enemies, last time they attacked they caught them by surprised and ended up injuring Vulken as a result, next time they allow themselves to get complainant around the dragons it could end in someones death. Still Helva was a bit calmed down now that was until some woman, who looked familiar started intruding on them and Vulkens conversation, looking at her Helva was able to make out that they were the one Vulken just told them about. Their words stating that Vulken should be grateful made them roll their eyes, not really caring what she thought of herself as, to Helva she was just another Deluded Lizard who preaches peace all while causing chaos and destruction. The more the woman spoke the more annoyed Helva got, and she only really rewarded them with a annoyed glare. Her point about the other Phoenixs having fun on their phones was stupid to her, they weren't really being obnoxious and if anything that meant they were distracted, so if a fight did break out, it would of taken them a second or two longer to respond to any sorta surprise attack. When the girl was done with her triad, Helvas continued pointed glare to her only worsened, she was about ready to call out to Hiyma to give her a data analysis on the woman, who she did remember but wanted to send a message that she was such of little importance to her that she wasn't even worth remembering. That was until her train of thought got interrupted by a voice that came from their side, Helva turned their head over in slight annoyance to find the voice belonged to a familiar face. The same face she had seen in a picture sent to her by Zach, Maho alias, Skullgirl, taking a deep breath in and a deep breath out Helvas attention was now completely focused on Maho. As she basically considered her, their gang niece of sorts, Zach seems to have sponsored the weirdest girl he could find, but she was atleast amusing, and now her weird little gang niece, she would of been sure to fulfill Zachs request of looking out for her, though considering her potential she wondered it that was even necessary.

That was until she saw Maho, hopped over to the Dragons side, and had practically frozen in stunned silence at what she saw, it took a moment of recuperation, before she had fuller registered what was going on. When Hiymas attention focused in on the scene as well she was startled by a less than happy YY, whose words made her scoff before thinking What do you think i just did you de-evolved ape? There's only so much I can do! but she really didn't openly express those words out loud, instead she just continued to stand behind Skadi as she let out a annoyed huff, with how the events are transpiring, and she suspected things were only going to get worse from here on out.
Helva meanwhile was still stunned from Mahos little charade, and was only taken out of their shock by YYs approach, the fact she went on to throw Vulken under the buss in order to placate the lizard, caused their eyes and mouth to twitch a bit, but she knew that she shouldn't really go against them, only cause it would not look good, to fight in front of the dragons, or even seem dis unified though they supposed YY sucking up the the Meirin woman already ruined the unified looking part. Though as much as she wanted to play around with Yong and the Lizard woman, Helvas central focus was on getting Maho back. So without much though Helva slowly walked over to her, with keeping their eyes straight on towards the dragon she was holding onto and quickly grabbed Mahos arm in order to tear them away from the Dragon boy, before then picking up Maho and moving backwards keeping their eyes on the Dragon and but then whispering to Maho "Don't do that again, I assuming my idiot of a Phoenix Brother, Hawk hadn't taught you much since he sponsored you, well i just want you to know I'm Revernant and he had given me a note telling me to take care of you (Coward), we will talk more once the Dragons are no longer in our vicinity but as of right now, just try to keep to the Phoenix side, Skullgirl." her voice was low, as she had practically whispered that into Mahos ear, but she had wanted to get the message across, as she retract her steps back to the Phoenix side carefully watching the Dragons as if they might attack at any moment.

WHERE GIANTS SLEEP
As he cut through the tall grass, Ezra became aware of how fast his heart was beating. Not enough to warrant a trip to the doctor, but still noticeable. The thumps slowly picked up in speed, and the aftershocks traveled all the way to the forming lump in his throat. He managed to get it under control fairly quickly, but there was still a bit of lingering apprehension as he examined the streak of Tigers gathered around the dragon statue.

He was never sure what to expect when meeting other members for the first time. In his limited experience, their personalities varied wildly, ranging from cool and composed to utterly insane. The one constant was that each person was intimidating in their own way, and Ezra still tended to shrink when presented with that kind of overwhelming presence. It wasn't very Tiger-like of him, but wasn't that the normal reaction when faced with a bunch of veteran gangsters? Then again, he and his life weren't exactly the picture of normalcy. Even if he forgot it from time to time, he was one of these people, no longer an average Joe.

Even though he had a case of the jitters, things weren't as bad as they could've been. The people he'd be working with weren't complete strangers, so he had a bit more to go on this time. Out of all of them, he had the most experience with Elias, but that still wasn't saying much.

He knew Elias even before joining the gang, but their relationship could only be described as acquaintances at best. No truly meaningful interactions, and everything between them being a result of family business. However, things changed when they had a brief reunion during Titus's interrogation. They didn't speak much, only exchanging greetings and farewells, but that meeting had a lasting impact. It made him more wary around people, reminding him of his father's warnings about physical contact.

All he knew was that Elias had a way to extract information from people. It wasn't a lot to go on, but after Ezra noticed Markus's refusal to touch the Yumin CFO, he couldn't help but keep his guard up around the older man. Potentials were extremely dangerous, and a single touch from the wrong person could do a lot of damage.

In addition to Elias, he was also familiar with the idol under his employ. Like Elias, the only information he had on Passeri Park came from the business side of things. Finding out she was involved in the underworld was a shock, even more surprising than discovering her boss's dark dealings. People often said that a lot of things went on behind closed doors in the music industry, but this was completely unexpected.

If two people tied to Yumin were in bed with the Tigers, then there was a chance that the company was trying to make some kind of play. Even if it was just a coincidence, the whole thing seemed pretty suspicious. Although, KnightCorp was doing the same thing. Actually, wasn't his family even more suspicious? Passeri Park was one of the talents they sponsored, and she wasn't even the only one. Florence was also wearing the KC logo on stage. With those two and himself, that made three. Maybe it really was just a weird coincidence. A bunch of rich people in the rich people gang wasn't really mind-blowing.

Apart from the pair from Yumin, there were two more members of the team. Out of them, he knew the most about Wren. Not counting Isobel, she was the one he'd spent the most time around. It wasn't a considerable amount of time, but it was enough for him to get an idea of what she was like. Despite being a Veteran, she wasn't as difficult to deal with as he expected from someone with her tenure. Surprisingly nice, more so than most of the criminals he preferred not to cross paths with. However, her ability still made him wary. It was exactly the kind of thing he was told to avoid. Her nature gave him some conflicted feelings, making him unsure of whether to trust his gut or his cautiousness.

Finally, there was Jammer. Ezra knew next to nothing about him, which made him the most intimidating out of the bunch. The man was a Veteran, so it was safe to assume that he was skilled. A person couldn't last that long in the Tigers if they weren't. Ezra hoped he could avoid getting on his bad side. The same went for the rest of the group.

At some point, he realized that the four of them had gotten a lot closer, his feet having carried him all the way to the dragon statue while he was preoccupied with his thoughts. When he came to stop, he tried to push aside intrusive thoughts and offered a quick, polite bow to his seniors. He was always the least experienced in every mission, so this part was nothing new for him.

"Sorry for the wait." He tried his best to appear calm as he spoke. It was a little discomforting to arrive with this many people already waiting, but at least he wasn't the last to arrive. They still had to stand by until Isobel showed up.

Where Giants Sleep
Despite her attempts to explain to the child that she could not speak, he’d only taken it as an encouragement to speak more on her behalf, much to her chagrin. Even after numerous detours, several misleading turns, and a fresh Mister Softee cone, she had somehow still not managed to lose her very persistent tail.

“One of my classmates is an HP. His name is Duncan. My mother wasn’t very happy when she found out. She thinks HPs are dangerous and that they shouldn’t be allowed to go to school with normal kids. But I think Duncan’s nice. He can make things fly. I wish mom would let me play with Duncan sometimes.” The boy rambled on as he walked side-by-side with the exasperated Jack.

Anti-HP sentiments were nothing new neither were they surprising. They had always been present in New Oasis, only in varying degrees at different points in time. Numerous activist groups have petitioned again and again for sanctions to be put in place against HPs but they always led nowhere or were “filed for future considerations” by the city council. However, with the recent rise in HP-related conflicts and incidents - from the destroyed bridge down by the South-East, to the monster battle in Central, and not forgetting the bomb explosion that took out an entire block in the South - tensions were at an all-new high and citizens were becoming increasingly vocal about their grievances and frustrations.

Approaching the group with distress in her eyes, Isobel signed at Wren and Ezra. “Help. Please.”

jongmin-ahn-green-river-1105.jpgOnly when the boy was finally gone was Isobel able to turn her attention fully to the statue in front of them. Of the four in the plaza, the dragon was the most hidden. Largely covered by foliage, all the public could see was its stone head stretching out to drink from the stream below. It was amazing that Wren and Kenji had even managed to find the compass buried under moss at the base of the statue. Examining the engraving closer, she noticed it was not an engraving at all but rather a separate stone block craved out to fit perfectly.

Since she arrived, Isobel had been silently tuning her senses towards the old mine entrance and there was an undeniable pull that she felt from the area. Specifically, from beneath where they stood. If they really were about to go spelunking through old, abandoned mine shafts that were likely to also be structurally unsound, it was best she figured out a way to break the news to the group beforehand. “How much do you guys know about the old mines?” Isobel tried to casually ask the group in sign as she kicked off her shoes and rolled up the bottom of her jeans.

Carefully wading into the stream, she circled to the front of the statue to take a closer look. There had to be some sort of inner mechanism that allowed them to move the statue out of the way. Perhaps a button or some sort of switch or -

Isobel's foot suddenly slipped out from under her as she accidentally stepped onto an algae-covered rock. In a panic, she reached out and grabbed onto one of the Dragon’s horns to stop her fall. With her full weight exerted, the horn gave way slightly and the soft shifting of stone could barely be heard.

Peering back, the group could see the compass now raised from the base like a knob waiting to be turned.

THE HEIST

“That makes sense.” Sylvie looked down at the lanyard he has been given, quickly donning it. It did make sense, but Sylvie hoped that the Queen would know his name, not Sarah’s. Guess it was good to stand out in terms of looks in this case.

He stood silently as the ladies got their introductions in, paying careful attention to each nugget of dropped information. Every name and company was of vital importance to him, and he made a mental note to look into the Weber family when he had the chance, though he was no gunman himself and even the sight of Jennifer’s arsenal was slightly unnerving. Maria, or ‘Madison’ was someone to get acquainted with as well, as the brief introduction left him with some questions.

The rookie’s cool exterior cracked ever so slightly as the group travelled upward through the building, Sylvie peering through the glass and then at the business in operation around them, clearly curious. Upon reaching the hallway that led to Hashimoto’s office, he took a quick pause to neaten his appearance before entering, giving Jackie another thankful nod. He seated himself next to Camila — whose presence continued to ease his nerves — and placed his briefcase down by his feet. He passed on grabbing a drink, as though he wasn’t a total lightweight, he didn’t want anything to cloud his perception during the meeting.

“Poincare-Scholtz Bank…” Sylvie echoed Ryutaro as he thought about where he knew the name, and a glimmer of recognition shone in his eyes. “My parents have dealings with them, yes.” It didn’t surprise him at all that his parents’ bank of choice was dodgy, but unfortunately that knowledge wasn't helpful. He looked at his Queen expectantly, awaiting more context on the matter. In the meantime, Jennifer continued to unsettle him. He was not a bank robber, or ready to rush into a place as well-armed as she was describing.

Omar was given a steady look over. From top to bottom, followed by a hovering condemnatory look towards the extended card. Yet it was more than just that. The man’s guileful gaze traveled just a smidge beyond the offering. There was a brief gliding inspection towards the cuff of the wrist, and then a snap back to normality. When their eyes finally met, there wasn’t a single bit of expedience.

“As you can imagine, Mr. Sieh is quite busy tonight.” The man took the card in hand, and tapped at it with the edge of his thumbnail. “In the meantime, we can put you up in one of our rooms.”

With little delay, a woman shuffled over to the two with a card of their own.

“Your room card, sir.”

Room B-017.

That was quick. Though was it because of dismissiveness or hospitality?

It might have just been a product of the day’s busy nature.

The growing stream of people didn’t seem to wane, even as the building continued to fill. The majority of the masses continued beyond the lobby into the forward main venue. It was an expansive space, and its height was most grand, but it would only be a matter of time until the wiggle room would diminish entirely.

Regardless, that was getting ahead of things. While observations were being had, so too were observations being taken. While most poured into the further reaches of the building, there were a handful that sat at the surrounding seating. They didn’t seem unlike any other, in fact, some carried signs like the rest. There was, however, one who made no effort to conceal their nosey eyes. Two curious orbs planted directly on the events transpiring with the well-dressed gentleman.

“If you're not familiar with our facilities, I could even show you to your room.” The staff woman added.

Meeting Spot

Ottilie’s own howls put a quick stop to the fox’s. In fact, the small animal backed a few steps away before being hastefully scooped up.

Two individuals had arrived from the creature’s same direction. They had been paces behind, but the pause in movement had allowed the opportunity to catch up. In doing so, one took the fox into his arms, while the other stood to greet the gathered people.

“Pardon the intrusion.” He slightly lowered his head towards those present. “This critter has been running amuck all along the beach giving people quite the scare. We’ve just come to retrieve it.”

His words tumbled out of his mouth like any other, and his expression even shared embarrassment. There was unsurprisingly moisture upon his brow with drenched attire to match. A tacky top and bottom inarguably for the beach, but not the kind intended for swimming. The same could be said for the other who was currently struggling to contain the nipping jaws of the handled animal.

“You weren’t bit, I hope?” He continued. “We don’t know if it has anything contagious or not.”

THE SUN IN THE GUTTER
Who would have thought that after all her worrying over these last couple of months, everything would still end up so disgustingly the same. Sure there was the added load of new items for production, but that level of change was rudimentary. It’s not like she wanted a civil war or anything, but she wouldn’t have complained if certain individuals ended up expiring in a similar sort of petty conflict.

She left out a sigh, but—

Her posture sharpened up immediately, as she scanned the scene in front of her. Every ounce of her body was anticipating the misshapen fallen form of one of her golems, but all five continued to work as normal, at least mostly. Two had decided to set aside their jobs in favor of playing rock paper scissors. What made it especially pitiable wass neither side ever threw anything but rock.

Unfortunately, Mimi didn’t find it nearly so funny.

“HEY GRAVELBRAINS,” she shouted, “QUIT THE SLAcking or we’ll… be here all night…”

Her elevated voice quickly leveled out, and she planted one of her hands against her head. The other she extended towards one of the dissenting constructs.

“Dismissed,” she muttered.

The chosen golem turned around, its featureless head pointed towards her direction.

“DISMISSED.”

The hunk of rock looked back at its playmate.

Its hand was extended, fingers held firm.

Paper.

The earthen form collapsed in on itself becoming nothing more than rubble.

The tension may have been thicker than a pit of sludge, but that wasn't the cause for the oni's furrowed brow.

Her light smugness turned into amazement and Yong-Yut proved to be quite good at the games—and then into mild frustration as the woman's competitive streak took over. While everyone else was worried about a real battle breaking out, Rin was trying desperately to succeed in her own virtual one, tapping furiously on her phone as she attempted to get ahead. Even specifically targeting Yong-Yut proved fruitless as she was then either used as a stepping stone for someone else or just bested regardless.

To say she was angry was inaccurate. More so, she was exasperated.

"How the hell!?" Rin blurted out, staring at her phone before she was distracted by one of the other new girls of the gang, or so Rin gathered, peeking over her shoulder. Then the focus of both was stolen by a boy across the way breaking out into song.

The oni raised an eyebrow, seemingly entirely forgetting about the virtual war she was waging. Some of the Phoenix's seemed ticked off by the attempt, and some of the Dragon's urged him against making a ruckus, but then he seemingly spoke to all present. Rin didn't exactly disagree. Unless they were going to fight, she didn't have an interest in mean-mugging them, nor did she have any kind of grudge. However, another stepped forward to urge him to quiet down, and once again Rin became distracted, but this time by a soft ping from her phone that indicated she lost again.

If the sound wasn't sufficient notification, the look on her face was.

"Wha-!" Followed by a defeated groan as she leaned forward into the most optimal posture to play. She gained a new fervor as a fresh round began.

Then, she lost it again as an exclamation took her focus. It was from one of the women across the way, who apparently had some relation with the red-haired guy. It sounded like dating drama, and Rin unconsciously let show an expression that looked like it belonged on someone awkwardly watching a couple fight. When the woman pointed a finger towards her, Rin glanced around briefly before shrugging.

"I mean... I don't really mind, he didn't sound too bad or anyth-AH!" Hearing another blip from her phone signifying another loss, Rin let her forehead tap defeatedly against her phone and rest there. "Yong-Yut you're killing me..."

Then there was the other new girl shouting. Rin didn't process all of it given her attention on the virtual ass-kicking a la YY. Pregnant? Twins? Rin certainly wasn't a role model in gang conduct, but wasn't that—not good? Or was it? They were trying to create a peace treaty, after all.

"Uh... congrats...?" She said, unassure. That was the nice thing to say, wasn't it? "Ah... sure."

Watching Yong-Yut walk towards the rest of the group, then toward the woman with the dragon tattoo and seemingly played peacemaker. Rin supposed that's why she was brought along. The oni didn't know enough, nor possess tact to be part of any diplomacy or negotiations. That sounded way too stressful. Helva was at it too, dragging back the rookie who probably should be permanently exempt from ingesting coffee.

Rin leaned back a bit with a sigh, scratching the side of her cheek awkwardly. Things were getting a bit more high-strung, but not in the way she would've liked. Fighting was fun! Drama was just—awkward as hell.

THICKER THAN WATER
"Testing, one, two, three, four," a slightly robotic and monotone voice said. A man bundled up in a fur-lined jacket and donning a gas mask stepped out of one of the various rooms in the warehouse, rubbing his eyes. "Good. The batteries are charged."

"I can't believe those guys seriously forgot about me," Miasma grumbled to himself. However, this was unintelligible, as the electronics at his neck were not made to interpret mumbled words. He squinted out at the battlefield. Since he had just been sleeping, Miasma still was able to see the faint outline of the struggle. Goodness almighty, why were their assailants so edgy looking? That was Miasma's thought, and he completely missed the irony of it.

With four people already deployed out in the field, Miasma took the opportunity to pull out a pocket mirror, using it to carefully apply a layer of eyeliner to himself. He had been rudely awakened from his sleep by the alarm bells, and he hadn't had the time to do his makeup yet. After inspecting his eyes at every angle with the tiny mirror, Miasma gave himself an encouraging nod. Yup. This would do for now.

With the four Potential users being outnumbered two to one, Miasma decided to join the fray. He couldn't bear to see Chester die, and he wanted Romero to survive to read the end of his story. Along the way, he picked up his baseball bat from the wall. It was a well-used and lovingly cared-for titanium metal bat, covered in car stickers, one for every city he visited. He fiddled with the voice synthesizer at his neck, amplifying the output of the speakers until he could shout through Romero's fog.

"It's really rude to break into someone's home and begin killing their residents," Miasma shouted, "What did we do to deserve such senseless violence? I know the others aren't so lenient, but I'll give you guys a chance. Leave, with your tails between your legs, and I won't give pursuit. Your life will be spared, and none will be the wiser of your shame but us. Or, if you want to keep going with this, I'll have to stop you. And so if that's the case, then..."

Miasma stepped in front of Peacock and Romero, acting as a human shield while also blocking the way to get deeper in the storehouse. He swung the bat with practiced ease and slammed it loudly into a metal chest, the ringing piercing through the fog.

"Batter up."

THE DRAGON AND THE PHOENIX
Pocketing his phone, Isaiah turned to face Meirin, taking note of her pleading expression. While he thought there was a noticeable difference between silently playing a game and openly challenging the opposing gang to a singing contest, he understood the point the Sleeping Giant was trying to make. It wasn't one he necessarily disagreed with.

"Don't worry, I'm not putting a ban on anything. Just want to make sure we're all aware of the situation." He only wanted to be sure that Hou understood that fun wasn't the goal and that even the simplest things could have unintended consequences. As long as the redhead kept that in mind, he was free to pass the time however he pleased.

"All of this started with one mistake. I just don't want that to happen again." The flames of war were reignited by accident, everything spiraling from there. If it happened again, there wouldn't be any more talking. That'd be the end of any hope for peace.

"Although, I admit that I'm being overly cautious." It was hard not to be in a situation like this. There were too many unknowns and too many risks. The black-haired Phoenix's reactions didn't help matters, and seeing a potentially lit fuse pushed him to put it out. However, it seemed like most of the people on her side weren't as volatile, a handful appearing indifferent to the tension.

The woman with the eyepatch seemed very eccentric, crossing the invisible line without hesitation and energetically bounding around Hou. There didn't seem to be any ulterior motive behind her actions, but Isaiah kept a close eye on her, his hand never too far away from a weapon. He remembered the silent words she spoke earlier, a threat to attack Shen. If the meeting between the Kings ended with a renewed truce, an action like that could jeopardize everything.

When the woman was dragged off, another Phoenix took her place, trying to ease some of the tension that followed Meirin's argument with the other side. It lightened the heavy atmosphere a little, showing that both sides were hoping for something other than a fight. It was definitely needed right now.

As for Meirin's past involvement with "Vulkie", Isaiah didn't think it was any of his business. People were free to do whatever they wanted in their personal lives. There was a concern that their relationship was just a means to gather information on a rival gang, and he couldn't blame anyone for jumping to that conclusion. Even he was guilty of that. However, that didn't seem to be the case here.

Meirin was honest and loyal, so he didn't believe she'd leak anything important. The other Phoenix also seemed genuine when trying to assure her that Vulken didn't have any bad intentions. Hopefully, they could get rid of the friction between them, even if only for the duration of the meeting.

HUNKS IN THE CITY
"Hm. Yes, nice." Tri let out a satisfied hum. As expected, 8 Ways to Make (And Keep) Friends worked. Celestine's response in particular made him happy. Nikolai was more perfunctory, but that was fine. He reminded Tri of Paris; a grumpy look didn't mean he wasn't happy. Tsunderes were just like that.

As someone who raised a tsundere before, he knew precisely how to deal with Nikolai. He turned a deaf ear to the fight brewing next to him (they hadn't said 'kill' anywhere, so it's fine) and got to the counter. He ordered the advertised combination, mint ice cream with almond crunch and chocolate dipped cone.

"Two, please." He had the money ready before taking them. One for him and the other, naturally...

"N, hold this up." Tri offered the mint ice cream to Nikolai with a serious look. "We have to take a group selfie. Fight later."

Way 4, group activity. Commemoration and having a sense of belonging and similarity was important.

And there was also that side social science he learnt about recently. Start small when asking for requests and bigger requests would be more likely to be accepted. Today, selfie.

One day, they would have a BFF matching shirt.
