Once the transmission was over, a stir formed among the four pirate goons. Three leaned against their boat wall or one of the bigger crates, but one stood up and walked up to his captain.
"Boss, are we really giving up this easily?"
The man said, protesting to his choice of such a quick surrender. The captain wore a grim look as he turned to face his trusty minion. To him, it was the best choice. Especially when the military was involved. So far it had been some scoundrel bounty hunter folks, but now things got more serious.
"I can't risk getting a bigger target on our back... if we're arrested and taken alive, we may be out of prison before we're too old for this shit. Then, there just might be a second chance."
Without any more words, the captain took his seat at the helm and directed the boat to Essex. His minion still wore a frustrated look. He peeked out the hull window and at the corvette resting in the distance.
"I don't know boss, I say we attempt an ambush. That ship ain't nothing big, there won't be enough crew to kill us."
"Military force, Jackson, we kill this wave we meet a bigger wave."
The pirate boat started floating slowly to the corvette. There was no weapon to turn offline, as the ship itself had nothing to call a weapon. Unless you could consider slamming it into another ship an attack.

Sigrun
Essex's Navigator
Sigrun furrowed her slender eyebrows as she watch the pirate boat approaching closer to their corvette. She doesn't want to believe the pirates would give up this easily, yet somehow this is happening. How frustrating.

Ah, what the hell. Pirates are unlawful combatants, there's no protocol to protect their humanitarian treatment upon capture anyway.

"Ahem. Hello? Arisu, yeah this is Sigrun here." She picked up her personal terminal and called the one person on board she thinks would be interested in this "Looks like we're going to have some fun...I would say, hmm, I'm thinking some jugs of chili solution for waterboarding would be fun to use on these pirates. What do you think?"

Arisu looked up at where Sigruns voice was coming from, it appeared that she wanted to waterboard he pirates and suggested using chili solution. She hadn’t interacted much with her but she seemed nice enough and certainly was smart enough to know the best way to do things is torture. And waterboarding was always a good way to do that. If they did indeed get the chance it would be very enjoyable.

“Hello Navigator Sigrun, I think to get the most enjoyment out of it we use chili solution, ghost pepper, and hot glass. So that we suffocate them but then when the glass cools we get a sculpture and can inspect the damage done to the person before his death. Is that sufficient enough?”

Ray ignored the comms, on which Sig was suggesting something that could've had her court martialed. He knew this crew was full of psychos, but they were the best he could afford. He was also displeased with the thirst for blood they all had. But what could he do? If he tried to lose a crew member, how would risk mutiny, a very likely option, especially with that damn droid on board. He began to ponder what his father would think of him, especially after using his inheritance from is dad to purchase this can, but not leaving enough money for crew. He wondered what his Momma would think, especially after all he had done, the sins he had committed. He wondered if his sister still respected him, the last time they had seen each other they started a bar fight between Marines and Mobile Infantry. Would she still look up to him? His mind drifted to one song, which brought back memories that sent chills down his spine, and it played over and over again in his head. In an endless loop. Like a tease to what he had done in the name of the UN...

Ray arrived in the cargo bay. He straightened his uniform, deciding that all human life is valuable, no matter what the cost. And If he had to he would make sure these men(or women) safely arrived to the hands of the Galactic Marshalls.

"But hot glass would probably just melt the whole thing, that's something like 450~540 degree celsius. if you want a death mask, you should just do it the proper way." Sigrun shrugged and said as she returned to the bridge while talking to her phone. "Or would you be interested in making wet specimen? that is if you have ethyl alcohol and fixative handy."

Arisu looked up once again at where Sigruns voice was coming through, she had a decent point. The glass would be too hot unless we had something very strong. Her second suggestion was good as well but sadly she didn’t have the materials needed with her. Perhaps good old fashion drugs might be good for torture but it was up to the navigator to decide

“Sadly I don’t have the materials needed for your idea, however I do believe I might have drugs somewhere in my bag. Maybe doing it that way might get us better results, humans are very scared of needles”

Ray decided to take charge. "Please stop using this net to talk about melting glass. Thank you. Arisu, can you please dress in one of Sig's spare dress uniforms? And Sig, ready the reactor. If SHTF I want my ship to die with me." He checked his Colt, making sure a round was in the chamber, and spun the cylinder before closing the gun. He then straightened his hat, checked his grandfather's pocket watch, and awaited the pirate's, and his own crew's arrival.

"Drugs sounds good, actually, if you got syringe, simply pumping air into their vein would do wonder...they probably won't survive it though so be aware of that" Sigrun said to the phone before she heard the captain's voice as she walks into the bridge.

"Aye aye captain. the reactor are well on standby. I have the 406mm guns aimed at their reactor section as well. The thing won't explode but the radiation would not be pretty if they did try something"

Seeing Arisu prepare reminded Keiran to do something similar. He didn’t need to adjust his weapon in any way as it simply lacked any of her attachments. It had neither laser sights nor a flashlight or silencer. These extras weren’t really on his priority list when he was stealing both the rifle and the pistols, all the while running for his life. He had almost forgotten, however, to pull down his UV-resistant goggles over his eyes, the hood over his head and the mask over his mouth and nose. Keiran didn’t want to risk any of the pirates even recognizing him as a Gehennian, then later talking to the law and revealing his location.

He heard the security bot’s whispered question and confusion was written on his face, although it was not visible at the moment. A robot questioning orders or a master wasn’t something he knew they did. Perhaps she was a newer model with some form of free will. “No, the captain remains in charge of us all. We follow his orders alone.”, he answered her in an equally hushed voice.

Keiran heard the conversation over the comms between their navigator and the robot and his confusion was quickly replaced by concern. Despite being pirates, he couldn't help but sympathise with them, imagining they too robbed the rich of their more than excess belongings. He certainly wouldn't shoot to kill unless they were the ones opening fire at them. Then again, why did he expect anything different from an elf? As a direct victim of enslavement by elves, the Gehennian felt nothing but disdain for Sigrun and her entire race. Thankfully, the captain intervened and put a stop to the conversation. This helped Keiran return his attention to the more important task at hand.

Arisu nodded and projected a Starcom uniform onto herself, she looked down at the rest of the dress and cringed. Was she really wearing this? It was disgusting, but orders were orders and she had to follow them. She guessed he probably wanted the pirates to see another “Starcom Member” when they arrived, slowly she slung her gun back over her shoulder and just stood in front of the airlock for when the pirates came. And hopefully they wouldn’t go down without a fight, surrendering took all the fun out of a scenario. If it was her choice she would just kill them no matter what. She didn’t really understand why they had to bring them in alive, they were pirates and as far as she was concerned had no entitlement to any type of hospitality or treatment at all. Though she did understand the pirates logic to surrendering, if they were the real starcom and they tried to escape more starcom would come after them and they would become more wanted. If they just surrendered now their jail term might be shorter but that still didn’t give them an excuse to just surrender now, if they were going to surrender they should’ve at least tried to bargain but apparently they were too stupid to even do that

The anticipation and tension is high with the crews. This wasn’t Sigrun’s first counter piracy operation, when she was a cadet on board the starship Hornet it was part of the curriculum to engage pirates near the pirate infested region.

She also saw how the captured pirates were treated by those burned, mutilated survivors they had rescued. The starfleet crew were prohibited from joining in but they also tend to not interfere with those “vigilante justice”, in fact one could say they quite enjoyed the show. Clubbing and kicking were usual occurrences, Sigrun remembered the shock on first time she saw a pirate being tied up to a pole, naked. They lash his body with whips attached with nails. Until there isn't a single patch of his skins remains intact. Then they wrap him in bandage — bandages soaked by strong brine, doing so is to make his skins and fleshes thoroughly "infiltrate" into the fibers. After that, they violently tear off those bandages, also tear off skins and fleshes at the same time, rendering him bloodied as being skinned.

Yet those perpetrators were not born devil themselves. As far as she could tell, those were mostly just kind, ordinary people who had had their loved ones and once had a normal life ahead of them, and as such she could only imagine what misery the pirates had put them through to turn them that way.

If these pirates did try to put up a fight, she would at least take them on as decent antagonist, but if they had the infernal audacity to offer to surrender and expect Geneva Conventions treatment...she really wouldn’t mind trying some techniques from the books she read about cruel and unusual punishments.

As their boat went closer and closer to the Essex, they got a better view of the "military" vessel. The one who protested earlier blew holes onto the boat visor glass, observing the ship from their sights. The frown on his face worsened into an angered growl as the man scanned the Essex of its weapons with his eyes. This man was experienced in spotting military spacecrafts. U-Gov military ones too, at that.
"Boss... you know what I think?"
"What, Jackson?"
"I think we've been quite bamboozled. Those suckers are posing as military."
"WHAT?"(Translated from Shavrin)
The pirates stirred again, the Shavrin one growling with frustration as she pulled out her scrap gun and held it in fury. Jackson raised his hands as an attempt to calm her down. Jamie's eyebrow twitched.
"So you're saying, Jackson, that these folks have just posed as military personnel?"
"I've seen the army ships. Corvettes around that size get more guns and more compensators. I see neither in enough quantity."
A sigh escaped from the pirate Oliver. The pirates started hatching a plan. If these suckers tricked them, then they'll regret it.

Unfortunately, the low level technology the pirates had on their weapons made it nearly impossible for a scan to indicate whether the pirates were arming their hidden weapon or not. It only managed to scan the external structure of the ship, while also detecting a formidable amount of crates piled inside. Many were metal, possibly Kepler-62f PlaCo's civilian supply crates from the design, and that the crew consisted of none less or more than a band of five.
"Multiple metallic storage units detected inside. Design highly suggests it is of Keplerr-62f PlaCo origin. Crew consists of exactly five individuals. Weapons were not detected in scan. Either too low on tech or non existent. I advise to take it as the former."
Inaros buzzed once the scan was complete.
"Ship approaching. Arrival to hangar bay is imminent."

A battered boat lingered before the hangar bay, visible from its window. Any time soon and they would be ready to land.

Arisu made sure the hologram over herself was working before straightening her "uniform" which in reality was just her normal clothes but retextured and made sure that her mask had been made to look invisible. As she waited for the ship to land she did one last check to make sure her gun was ready and loaded before slinging it back over her shoulder, because if things got messy she would take great joy in gunning down all of them without any mercy. When the ship finally touched down on the platform she readied herself and walked on out to greet the pirates, already going through different senarios. When she made it out to the ship before even waiting for whatever door or ramp the ship had to open or extend she placed some remote controlled explosives onto parts of the hull, engine and landing gear making sure she wouldn't be seen doing so. She understood the captain most likely didn't want to damage the ship and she probably wouldn't but it was always a good precaution in case things took an unexpected turn. As she finished up planting the explosives she made her way back to the front of the ship and waited for whatever move the pirates would try next, whether it be to surrender peacefully or to go down with a fight

The huge creature nodded to Keiran and moved quickly, its body almost barreling down the hall with the freakish speed of its gait, ignoring his question for now. Whatever weaponry it possessed had yet to reveal itself and unsurprisingly, it went back to hiding behind another large selection of supplies. This time however, it was prepared to ambush.

As Rieslav moved into position, parts of his shell along his side began to split as if cracking but this was far from unintentional. Skittering shapes leapt out of his body - four in total, somewhere between the wide-eyed curiosity of jumping spiders and the hairy, bulbous ugliness of houseflies. The bioconstructs shuddered for a few seconds, heads swivelling to and fro as antennae wafted the air. He was calibrating his psycho-somatic link and time was short, sending them skittering up to where they could be partially obstructed by shadows or gaps in the lines of sight.

He couldn't see through the crates and miscellaneous supplies stacked in front of him but through these false lifeforms, he had the equivalent of four cameras through which he could observe the room.

Cameras that if need be, could be used to strike.

"Do note..." He began to speak over the coms. "I would rather avoid needless death. We may need these pirates alive for a larger payout and for figuring out what may be on their vessel. Let us finish this job quietly - less attention is less trouble for the future."

A loud, almost living sound crunched and scraped over the coms. Some might recognize the sound of a hellhammer maintaining itself; its organic components synchronizing with its cybernetic ones in a grotesque dialogue of biomass and machinery.

"In my experience, the average brigand grows quiet upon the sight of a vrexul soldier, armed or not. Give me the signal and I will make myself known."

Sigrun
Essex’s Navigator

“Hanger/Bridge. Tango is out of our main gun’s depression range. We can no longer shoot at them this angle.” Sigrun said to the comm as the pirate boat got to the point there the 406mm main gun could no longer hit the target as they are directly outside the hanger. If it were a larger ship it should’ve been the CIC handling the weaponry, heavily armoured and located in the middle of the whole ship, alas the bridge will have to do for this corvette.

She’s disappointed that she didn’t get the chance to fire the big canon, and doubts starting to plant in her mind. Would these ferocious pitiless outlaws really surrender this easily?

Now that she had calmed down a bit from that exciting conversation with the ship’s security, with the captain and the crews gathered to meet the incoming pirates, it could’ve been disastrous, what if the pirates threw out a dozens of grenades and got them all wiped out in a single attack? But it’s too late to prepare for that at this point. She once again turn to the panel where she can seal off compartments while watching the scenario unfold on the security camera.

Touch wood, if the pirates were able to wiped out everyone in the hanger bay, she could still cut off the life support in sealed off compartments and use the ventilation to draw airs out. To...flood the ship with the vacuum of space, so to speak. Hopefully these pirates might not be wearing space suits, or if they were then at least it would be easier for the remainder of the crew to shoot them dead.

Location: Bridge

The pirates started forging a plan. Since it was clear that this was no military vessel, they knew that they just might have a chance. But it also meant that the gear of the crew was a mystery to them too. There was no way any plan they conjured wouldn't be a gamble of any sorts. Jamie rested his hand on his trusty cigar case, but did not bother to take one out for a smoke. This time he needed a clear head, without any fumes.
"...we've been wanted for god knows how long, they'll probably know there's five of us."
The Shavrin leaned over to the crates and started rummaging through the insides of each. The crew went on to assist on the conjuring of a plan. Most just thought- Jackson and the Shavrin went on to search their plunder desperately for something useful. All the while their craft hovered before the hangar bay airlock. They maintained radio silence, both not to make any sudden move and meet imminent death and to make sure their talks were not heard to their possible captor.
"Ahah!"(Translated from Shavrin)
"Marili, you found something?"
"A mannequin!"
A plastic mannequin was at the mercy of the Shavrin by the name of Marili's grip, its neck grasped by her hand. Jackson mouthed a curse but did not say it out loud, confused from the proud action of the Shavrin.

Keiran felt more nervous the more they had to wait. What was taking these pirates so long? Their ship was now as close to theirs as it could get, yet they weren’t docking. Were they writing their testaments or were they preparing for a battle? The gunner wouldn’t be surprised if they had seen right through their attempted deception and were doing the latter.

His tail once again betrayed this emotion and although Keiran had doubts that humans would be able to read it, he tucked and coiled it up underneath his long coat like a snake. He readjusted his stance and glanced back at their captain, looking for confirmation of his concerns. The pirates were too close at this point to fire a warning shot at them and the time Mr Person had given them had long since passed.

SpazTheButcher SpazTheButcher

Ray checked his watch. It was time. "HAL, give them a final warning, or we will shoot." Ray was ready to rock, the hammer of his revolver pulled back, and his pulse rifle hidden nearby, he wanted to offer these men a chance that few had: a peaceful resolution. He looked over the Kei, who looked nervous, and Ray considered doing a one last pep talk before going "over the top".

"A plan, and the best one we have with our gear..."

---
"This is a final warning. Enter the hangar bay and surrender or we will open fire."
Inaros sent a transmission to the pirate ship. It finally moved again, and the hangar bay airlock opened to welcome it in. The ship shook slightly as it entered the artificial gravity field of the hangar bay, taking a few seconds to adjust and hover stably. It floated over to where Ray and the gang were, and stopped a few meters away from the captain of the Essex.
"We surrender, promise us a peaceful arrest."

A gunshot rang in the hangar bay- someone fired from behind the boat. A bullet landed right two meters away from Ray. Whoever fired it was a poor shot.
"Son of a-"
The pirate ship fired up its lower boosters, attempting to gain altitude. Just barely visible from the gathered crew's position, a figure was dangling at the back of the ship.

(Alright, a little warmup combat. You'll have about five seconds of reaction time after the missed shot, describe what your character would do and only what they would do and not how its effects would be. I will be the one writing the effect. Each of the tagged people post once, and I'll whip up a reaction.)

The bloke had barely been lifted ten feet by the ship when a bullet fairly ripped, and Ray had started shooting with the Big Iron on his hip. Ray fired 2 more rounds at the bloody bloke, and the dove for the area behind a nearby crate, inside which he had hidden his pulse rifle, aiming to get it before shit got real.

As the airlock finally began opening, Keiran peeked above his cover, resting his rifle on the edge of the crate and aiming down the sights to where the two spaceships connected, his dark figure and shadows of the cargo bay concealing him. He had a hard time believing the surrender at this point in time and thus didn’t lower his weapon. Only a moment later, his suspicions were confirmed as a shot was fired at their captain from somewhere inside the pirate’s ship.

Keiran squinted through the sights of his rifle, focusing on the humanesque figure standing in the back. The ship was moving and since he couldn’t get a clear view of what it was, he pulled the trigger without a second thought, letting bolts of reddish energy fly towards it.

Something was very strange. That was a highly risky position to fire at a hangar bay that as far as the pirates knew, was full of armed individuals. A part of him desired to shove the boxes out of his way, raise the hellhammer, and demonstrate why the weapon's name and reputation had become so well known.

He couldn't help but wonder if something was wrong though; not with the pirates but if they were attempting to bait the crew of the Essex.

Truth be told, he didn't feel particularly concerned about the dangling individual as a threat; they had fired a solid slug weapon from what his drones still hidden throughout the hangar bay could tell. Nothing that he could see doing crippling damage. They no doubt had a trump card and he couldn't afford to reveal himself, not yet.

"Something's fishy about this; if they wanted to take us out, they would've had heavier ordnance. Holding position for now..." He buzzed over the com channels to the rest of the hangar crew.

One of his drones, creeping low with its belly pressed tightly to the ceiling, moved closer to get a closer look at the pirate vessel and see if it could detect anything... unusual. Perhaps they had bigger weapons simply laying in wait and this was just a warm up.

After all, why the hell were they dangling someone like they were fishing?

To the Vrexul's dismay, the pirate ship seemed to have no hidden function no matter what angle his drone saw from. It was just a simple, small boat, with no weapons whatsoever. ChasmOfOrganicMatter ChasmOfOrganicMatter

Arisu and Keiran returned fire at the dangling humanoid figure. The barrage of fire ripped the figure to shreds-but rather too easily. Pieces of molten, dismantled plastic rained on the hangar bay floor.
"Identified: Plastic Mannequin."
A hand holding a scrap rifle slowly retreated back into the ship, the weapon's barrel splattered into two as a blind pulse round landed on the metal part. The vessel started slowly floating toward Ray's position. The boat's speaker turned on as it tilted toward the captain.

A puppet? Keiran watched as the bullets and energy bolts tore the lifeless mannequin to shreds. The hand and the destroyed rifle it was holding retreating behind the corner didn’t escape his sight. So, this must be the real shooter.

However, before he could fire another shot at the enemy, the pirate’s ship had already lifted off the ground and was now hovering not towards the exit and potential freedom but towards the four of them. This was quickly turning into a suicide mission. The ship would surely crush them if they didn’t move soon or it didn’t get stuck along the way. Keiran had to think fast. Shooting at the engine or the turbines would most likely handicap them but would also risk a fire and an explosion inside the Essex so this was out of the question.

Instead, the gunner aimed towards the windshield of the spacecraft and launched a whole barrage of energy bolts its way. He was trying to puncture it and, best-case scenario, even wound the pilot operating the controls.
