Short question about the starting equipment: Is it fine if I sell parts of the starting equipment? As an example, I'd like to buy a rapier, so there's no need for a pair of short swords.

Guess we have a good party mix. Might be going for a more utility-oriented set of spells, since we're forming a pretty balanced party.

Too damn indecisive what I actually want to play right now, I have about a dozen different ideas that don't mash well with each other - by now, I've considered everything but the barbarian, and the race is up for further discussions once more as well. What I can say is that I'll stay away from chaotic-evil and its immediate neighbors.

I'm aiming for a half-elf sorcerer/wizard who discovered a means to stop aging altogether, but is now obsessed with discovering full-blown immortality (and not the shitty undead kind of immortality)

Yeah could. But, the rules give you ability to choose a starting package + what you get from backgrounds OR roll starting gold + what you get from backgrounds. Then add another 100 gp on top from me for being 3rd level.
