Your candor is appreciated. Khortja is, by her nature, difficult to implement especially into a setting of people who's primary goal seems to be hunting monsters (or goblins in some cases), in particular those who have a beligerent disposition. She's got a litany of options though! I'm all for working out a possible arrangement with the Tamer's Guild (if she doesn't mind catching/beating the hell out of a few beasts) but this situation really does have me thinking... "How does one barter with a barbarian that really is out for themselves?" 😂 Kudos for the challenge. I know it's entirely your decision to make on her entry, but it's fun to think about.

Being more at home in the wilds, and most definitely acquainted with fighting a myriad of beasties, the Tamer's Guild seems like they'd have more relevant opportunities for Khortja. Especially since they don't involve quests that require her to help people out of a sense of altruism (even if they did get paid for it).

I picture the Tamer's Guild possibly having camps out in the wilds. It would make more sense to have staging areas as outposts in remote locales, rather than a group of trappers taking off from a city every time they get a request for some kind of creature to be brought back to market. I could see their outfit working in a way that has a messenger bringing them a veritable "shopping list" of monsters that the Guild has accrued back in the city. The couriers travel to different sites that already have teams of trappers and hunters camped out. The couriers deliver a cut from their last haul while also giving the group their next list of requested creatures. I'm not saying that the Tamer's Guild exclusively would work this way. But it could definitely be a thing they regularly do.

In the aforementioned scenario, Khortja could live a pretty chill life out in the wilderness camps. She's away from civilized scrutiny, has a degree of protection by way of the camp defenses (set up and funded by the guild, of course), and all she really has to do to maintain this lifestyle is go out and hunt down some critters. Yes, sometimes the critters are big. Sometimes they are VERY big. Oftentimes they are nasty and even dangerous. But if it was easy, then anyone could do it, right?

Khorta doesn't get paid. As a goblin, she is way too distrusting to confide in someone to reward her after she does a task for them. And no one would be stupid enough to pay her before she did any work. What she gets in return for her helping efforts, is:
  • Continued free lodging at any of the Tamer's Guild camps. She essentially just finds a corner within the outpost fence to dump her stuff in and set up a tarp. It's never very permanent, as she will pick up and venture between different outposts, and sometimes just camp out in the wild by herself when she is sick of all the company.
  • Access to Guild facilities. Kind of goes hand in hand with her lodging but needs a separate mention. Medical aid in particular is paramount to survival in this lifestyle. This, especially when goblins are resistant to magic spells. Khortja relies on good ol' fashioned medicine when she's sick or injured. And the Trapper's Guild camps usually has someone with those skills available for those returning from their ventures. There could also be resident apothecaries. If Khortja brings them materials, they can make her various potions and salves. Keeping some for their own store of course. Yes, it's a trade. But one that is immediate and with little room for distrust.
  • Collateral loot. Whether it be Griffon feathers, Wyvern barb poison, Cockatrice eggs, Unicorn hair, etc. These are all very valuable items that can be gleaned from the creatures the Trappers hunt down and subdue. While Khortja might not have as many shiny valuables as most "wealthy" goblins, she most definitely is collecting a generous cache of rare creature components.
  • The guards will occasionally look the other way when Khortja sneaks into the armory wagon to requisition some new gear.
Keep in mind that it's not just Khortja that I will be RPing. It's also Hakki, her Warg companion. Wargs are devilishly intelligent (and they can speak, too). Hakki can sometimes be a voice of reason to Khortja when she is being particularly difficult in dealing with others. Of course, Hakki is often even more cunning than his Goblin friend. And thusly, all that more likely to be trying to cheat and trick those that the duo has dealings with.

All this being said, Khortja's involvement with Human and Elven PCs/NPCs will be kept very much at arm's length. She absolutely hates them, and there just is not any way to sway her opinion of them to even moderately good graces. Draconic beings and Undead are something that instill a great fear in her, as well. We can assume for ease of narrative that there are races of variety at the camps: beast-folk, bugbears, dryads, faun, orcs, etc., and Khortja will be much more amiable with their lot.

I don't mind any of this, outposts and all. Especially seeing as the guild is largely composed of my three idiots and my bigger, money grubbing idiot, it stands to reason that the guild would select someone (or possibly many someones) requiring low monetary maintenance to do some of the higher demand grunt work. The outposts (likely commandeered from older historical barracks rather than of virgin build), however, would probably be run down the further north (outside the wall) they get. Riches, after all, don't mean much without people willing to work and maintain the posts, and Pylos isn't known for his generosity of spirit (or anything else, really), but Khortja would be more than welcome to do as she pleases there especially since they'll likely be undermanned, if not empty for most of the month.

We've already got three (once four) guys, compliments of Astrophil Astrophil , attempting (and failing, can't wait to see how that conversation goes 🤣) to nab a griffin. I leave it up to you any outposts that you'd like to start from if you'd like to start there. If you'd like interaction, I can send someone to deliver a message (maybe containing an assignment?) to you. If you'd like further details, then we can DM this for clarification! I only say so because I'd hate to bog up the OOC with too many copious details. 😂 But if an outpost visit appeals to you, or if you have any inquiries or interests, please let me know!

okay, sounds like a plan. I can totally work on a starter tonight. And I'd most likely go for a run-down and destitute outpost way up north past the wall.

Do I just make a new thread for that and tag you?, or... how does that work? Do you already have some threads established? I'm not sure how y'all are collectively grouping all these different RP threads together.

I hate to stifle anyone's writing, but as I am currently unsure as to what thread your post would start on (since it wouldn't be in town i.e. the default Hunter's Inn Main thread), I'd say your best bet is to prep it but then wait to ask Genii Genii tomorrow where it goes, as I'd like to ensure that he approves of this plan before going forward. He's in a different timezone, so early tomorrow morning he might be around to provide an answer, if that's alright. If you absolutely can't wait, I have some of my goons scouting the Ruins of Bal'Dak past the wall up north, and we could have our asides there since the battle seems to have largely come to an end, anyway.

The different threads are pretty much different locations where the HG missions take place. And up until now, they've all been based around missions assigned by the Hunter's Guild (or their commissioners), so I really don't know what the prerequisites would be for a new thread if it isn't technically a Hunter's Guild Quest (which also require a minimum of at least two people), y'know? Chances are, it won't be a problem, but I would like to be sure before you go to the trouble. <3 Hope that helps!

yeah,no worries. I always write up all my posts off-site so that i can edit and spellcheck and all that jazz. Then i post em when i think its properly polished up. So I'll just get it started and we'll take it from there.

I can even DM you my draft and you can gimme your input before I post it (wherever it winds up going. lol)

For now, i gotta get my kiddo ready for bed, tho

Sounds good to me! Send it whenever you're ready!
'Til then, rest well, you and the little one both!! <3 😊

Morning all! 😁

I have a family birthday today so won’t be able to post till later (which is when most of you guys wake up anyways). 😂

Murdergurl Murdergurl Oli Beju Oli Beju Yes of course, you can set up a new thread anytime. Alternatively I can set up a permanent Wild Lands thread if this would be more useful?

either way works for me. This is your world, I'm just roleplaying in it. lol
Currently working on a draft, but I think I'm done with writing tonight. So I'll take it back up tomorrow and eventually get it to a point where it's post worthy

Sorry for dragging on Meg's...breakdown. I just feel like the only violence she's seen is brawls and bar fights, so hearing the continuous/defenseless shrieks until it died would be horrifying. And then I wasn't sure how long it'd take her to get back together.

Yes, don’t worry. 😊

No need to rush - I just wanted to check if we were gonna rp walking back to the inn, or if you’d prefer the characters do that offscreen (and continue in the main thread).

Okay, so I made my post in the Northern Wilds. Here's the link for the thread, so you can attach it to wherever you are attaching all the threads this RP entails.

Hi guys, I think I'm dropping out of the rp for now. I feel I neither have the time nor drive anymore to commit myself to the rp. Hope you understand

Genii Genii
I'm coming up with an idea for some Leshen ingredient lore to be put in the list I started.
Since you brought the monster to the RP, were there any ideas you had for uses of Leshen materials?

Ooo. Hmm. 🤔 Maybe accelerated growth, or some kind of mind control potion? Lol! Happy for you to improvise.

I’m just off out on a dog walk, but will be back later. 😁 🐶

That needs to happen XD

I'm going to be coming up with a little quest for Morgana (and any other characters who want to join of course). Like an ecological survey/expedition in the woods. It probably won't go sideways. Maybe.

Fifi people, are we skipping Lady Longbottom again?

And I'm glad Morgana gets some sort of pet from this, even if an undead Fifi would have been cuter.

Okay, sorry to the user named Fifi; I meant those on a quest to rescue Fifi....Sorry.
