Viewpoint What makes you nope out of a search thread?

When there's already a pre-existing group with a Discord etc.
In my experience those are incredibly clique-y and difficult to become an active part of without strenuous effort on your part to be accepted into the fold. Same goes for new interest checks that are full of memes and an obvious well-established friend group within the first ten minutes of posting. It's awesome, and I'm glad so many people have tight friends on here... but it's incredibly daunting and unappealing to someone outside the group checking it out. Just make a closed group with your friends xD Especially since half the time a good chunk of roles are already given out before the interest check is even made (since, obviously, the friend group has been talking about it ahead of time) so there are maybe like... two or three available roles to choose from. Not very appealing.

It's just... rarely a good experience. This obviously isn't always true, but it usually is in my experience. It's why I'll click out of them pretty immediately, even if the plot is good.

When the thread is marked as "multiple settings" and has many tags that attract your interest, but upon clicking you realize that they are all fandom pairings with a small note at the bottom that they're "potentially interested in other ideas".

Stop doing this! Just mark your thread as Fandom. (also applies to the other tags as well, but I mostly see it with Fandom)
Or when they tag it as such and the plots are all different scenarios in the same genre. "Multiple Settings" doesn't mean multiple plots.

I'm not a fan of fandoms so pretty much anything, be it in the title or tag, that is fandom related I skip entirely.

"You have to pick from this list of characters / roles"
"Your character has been granted this specific type of magic / ability specific to this thread, and you can't refuse"

When the person has 50000 rules and the general tone of their interest check is.. off putting lol

oof- i got a few

1. "Reply at least once a day."
Absolutely a big no-no. This is probably one of my biggest roleplay turn-offs as I have a busy life and don't always have the mental capacity to put together a post. I get wanting to have an active roleplay so you don't just have your time wasted and stay interested in the entire thing, but I can do with 1 reply a week or less.

2. Attitude
I feel like a lot of people try to be quirky or edgy rather than friendly and approachable by the way they present themselves in a search post. I prefer neutral and friendly-looking posts over one that's full of sarcasm and jokes in tiny letters.

3. "No romance."
I love me some romantic clichés and even if the relationship(s) don't work out, I find them to be an interesting addition to the story. Keyword being "addition". I never ask for it to be a focus over end goal, which is something people just seem to assume when I mention wanting romance.

4. Specific requirements of ME
When I see a list of 'partner requirements' and I hit one that doesn't apply to me, I immediately turn away.

5. No regard for my wishes or ideas
This... kinda speaks for itself? The other person simply gives me no room to be creative or toss in ideas of my own, or they let me but completely dismisses me. I usually turn away when someone has a specific wish for a character (non-canon) explain in such detail in which I feel like they might as well write a story by themselves? Dunno, but I prefer making characters of my own making in a world we build up together.

6. "No doubling."
I understand that for some people it may be too chaotic to control too many characters at once, that's fine. But doubling is something I have done since forever and it's the way I prefer it. (Bless those people who approach me and are willing to play a character for me, but don't need one in return. Y'all are rad.)

7. Not being open to OOC chatter
Can we not be friendly with each other? It doesn't mean we have to besties for life the moment we start chatting, but it doesn't hurt to chat a little about headcanons, share music, or w/e. The last time I made an actual friend from OOC chatter was maybe 6 years ago, you don't have to feel like I want to come over for a sleepover the next day, jeez.
Also, let me know if you're dropping out maybe? Of course, you have all right to leave the rp, but it would be nice to receive a non-detailed heads up that the rp will be discontinued, so I'm not waiting for nothing. I am very patient with people, but when I see they have suddenly left the Discord server or thread after maybe 4 posts, it's just... hm :/

8. Post length requirement
No. No. No. No. No. If you're going to be too specific and say my posts have to be at least 1000 words for each character, I will not even bother. There's only so much you can describe and I am not about to talk about the colour of the sky and the taste of the cookies fifty times over just to get to that minimum post length. Even when you read a book you don't see an entire paragraph about what the one character is observing, only for it to happen again two paragraphs later whilst talking to another character. No thanks.

9. Group rps
I have had some bad experiences with group rps and I refuse to join one again. It's also a real big annoyance when someone approaches me on my 1v1 search about a group they run. Like... did you not see where I posted my initial search?

I suppose that's it. I'm aware that not everyone can get along and that's just fine, finding a fun rp partner sometimes just takes a while.

This isn't a complain, challenge, or argument, it's just a comment but has anybody noticed how the Roleplay Discussion subforum seems to consist entirely of 1x1 Roleplayers.

At least, that's how it seems from my point of view.

Ehh, I personally don't see it that way. Maybe it's because I've been in or are currently in group roleplays with some people who post here, but I think it's a pretty mixed basket around here.

they probably dominate the site's population in general, although I can't back that up

Not sure how this is relevant to this particular thread, but I do groups and 1x1 and I'm all over this section like a rash. XD

-Requirements about the player's gender...whaaaaat?!
-Length requirements
-Romance only. I mean, it can be fun, but those aren't always the stories I find the most engaging
-Non-Fandoms...yeah...I get into things and wanna walk around in that world. I also like knowing the "rules" of the universe going in. I know how things work in Star Trek, unless we're going to spend a lot of time on world building, I do not know how things work in our original spaceship and exploration story. That kind of freedom actually stresses me out, man
-No details, just a list of pairings. Again, too much freedom, give me some direction so I know where we stand. Just a sentence or two will do.

Having been one of those people who actually go about playing in a fandom cross over RP, i decided to go taking a look at the rest of what Rp Nation had to offer, mostly because of a potential idea of mines. and well...
When the person has 50000 rules and the general tone of their interest check is.. off putting lol
most of the time, it not literally that overwhelming when it comes to the rules. But as serenity has said, certain things do make it off putting. Especially coming from an rp that doesn't focus much on post count. Might be the fact that I was able to fit in with the group in question. But yeah, post count and the whole stuff with this definition of "literacy" that exists in rp's. Not every interaction in an RP requires that sort of limit, if anything I would have no issues if they simply wanted more of a general "type down what is appropriate." sort of recommendation, type down what seems appropriate to a given situation and avoid having to use fluff in your posts. But I can understand why people have adapted that word as a way to regulate post count. Most aren't exactly making a novel out of an RP and are simply doing it as a past time. Might just be my own biases.

-Requirements about the player's gender...whaaaaat?!
I can relate to the apps that go over gender. It's not exactly something that I think about often, not to say that I wouldn't consider exploring the topic of romance in some way. It's not my cup of joe.

I guess that's why I was attracted to my current active RP, something like the best of both worlds when it comes to established canons and original creations. No pressure to know all the ins and outs of a respective setting, just a general idea of what to expect.

There it is again. "Fan of Fandoms." And I still can't figure out how to properly make the joke.
Yes. I, Laix_lake, am a fan of fandoms. Or would it be a fan of Crossovers?
...So you're a Fan of Fans?

Honestly, it is when they word their rules and requirements in a sort of, Hitler-esk dort of way (Right me if I am wrong)
I mainly Rp for fun so I just wanna relax and Rp.

secondly, it's when people are Strictly OCxCC and don't do doubling, it really pisses me off and its a very big upset towards some of the RolePlaying community, there needs to be an Equal amount for Both sides

I can understand the player gender requirement because sometimes it's easier to interact with people of same gender for some people and that's okay. I wouldn't reply to such search threads if people are looking for opposite gender than me to respect that.

However, sometimes those requirements are worded as if the person is looking for a date rather than rp partner and that's insta nope out of thread.

basically any 1x1 search that lists "i'm interested in rping a/b/o, incest, dom/sub, large age gaps" etc etc.
first of all, fucking ew. people can like what they want yadda yadda yadda but i'll still judge sketchy interests like that from afar.
second of all, i don't get why people use sexual terms like that for rps when erotic rping isn't even allowed. yikes.

Simply put many people don't read rules, be it the sites rules or the rules of person they are contacting. Or have some really stupid defense why they should be allowed/have too ignore such rules. Otherwise they would stick to sites that allow or even cater to such things.

I feel ignored now. lol
I feel like I chide in a lot in the non-RP section of this site, and I'm avidly NOT a 1x1 RPer. j/s ;-)

Also, how is it that you can tell what the members participate in just by their comments?

Mainly certain plots and complaints can lend themselves far more to either group or 1x1. If you see someone complaining about GMs, cliques, people ignoring your posts and running on the story then that is far likely more a group. Though some people call the 'lead' in a setting in 1x1 a gm or could be complaining about their RP being ignored by a partner who is still posting in other RPs. The wording in the post most likely has other hints.

When people are complaining about a 'partner' or seeming to only refer to one person having issue it's likely a 1x1. Though some groups do have people that tend to team up.
