hello there~! this be hugh flynn as your GM for a roleplay about six teenagers who are thrust into the world of alchemy, sorcery, auric magic, immortals, elders, and more~! if you've read the book series "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel" you'll find that this RP is heaaavily based on it. this is my first time solo-GMing a roleplay so please bear with me if i screw up a few things
i wasn't ready. none of us were.
- introSix people. Six different individuals from across the globe, each not having the faintest idea that the other five existed. And yet, on this cold Tuesday night, they all would have the same dream. As each of them pulled their blanket over their body, a prophecy comes to be the truth. As they lay their head on their pillow, sorcery as old as time itself pulled them into a dreamscape.
A peaceful and misty evening on a farm. You knew it was a farm from the soft clucking of chickens in their pen and the snore of pigs in their sty. But what drew your attention was the hazy silhouette of a man on the barn roof stamped in the silvery circumference of the moon. You thought he was just your average farmer doing your average meditation, but something inside you knew your assumptions were wrong. That same 'something inside' filled you with a blazing curiosity for who the person was, inviting you to move closer. And so you did.
But as your feet rustled the grass underneath, you could see and hear the rhythmic pitter-patter of liquid from his left arm onto the shingles of the roof. Upon closer inspection, the droplets didn't refract the serene white moonbeams that illuminated the man from behind but instead glowed with a horrific tinge of red. The red stains were then accompanied by a metallic sparkle that came from something on his right arm, or rather, came from something that was his right arm. A hook.
The spectacle ignited the unmistakable feeling of pure terror in your very core. You grasped your throat, telling yourself to calm down as you breathed ragged breaths. Your gaze dashed around from object to object before settling back down on the man as the dark shadow of his head slowly turned to face you. As he did, you saw and felt the blood-curdling gaze of two multi-colored eyes looking down on you. You could feel the man's stare pierce into your very being as if he were looking not at your physical body, but at your vulnerable and naked soul.
You couldn't take it anymore and shot upright in your bed as you let loose an ungodly scream. You didn't know the man, you didn't know why you had the dream, you didn't know why you felt so scared. It just felt so real. While hundreds of thoughts were sent racing throughout your mindscape, one singular thought coursed and pulsed boldly, so strong that you felt your lips move on their own. "His name was Marethyu."
Just the very utterance of the name sent your senses into a frenzy.
Another scream left your lips as you felt the room lose all its heat, turning as cold as the icy oceans.
The bedsheets and covers beneath you, however, rose in temperature to burn as hot as a full-throttle furnace.
Your ears picked up on the air currents howling through your AC unit, amplifying it so ear-shatteringly loud; it was like you were in the midst of a raging hurricane
The floor beneath you shook violently as your family rushed from around the house to your aid, putting you in what seemed like a full-frontal earthquake.
The shadows in the corners of your room seemed to stretch and contort horrifically towards you, close enough to feel like jet black arms of darkness wanting to strangle you in a tight embrace.
When your family burst into the room shouting your name, the lights slammed on and filled the room with a harsh glare as if the sun itself was shoved into the room. But the darkness didn't leave.
You shut your eyes as tears streamed down your face, hoping to block out the blinding light, but even through closed eyelids you could still feel your vision slowly being blinded by the glare.
You buried your face into your hands, a last foolish but valiant effort to stop your sight from being blinded. Your hearing completely broke down, all the heightened sounds condensing into a single high-pitched note. Your touch went fully numb, all the different physical feelings crammed into one dull feeling. Even your taste and smell were flooded with the unpleasant flavor and scent of... old coins.
You opened your eyes one last time to look at the faces of your family, sure that this was the moment you would die. But instead of the blinding light that you saw before, the room and everyone in it shifted in color. A look of shock materialized on your face as you looked from faces to the walls to your very hands. Every object's shade that met your eye subtly but surely changed into a different color, even into shades that you've never seen before.
"Of course, you're going to do what humani always do best. Black out," an unknown voice boomed in your head.
He was right. Your senses couldn't take it anymore. Too much information was given to you. Your brain was going to overload.
With that thought, your eyes rolled up into your head. You blacked out. - the nitty-grittyrulesAs per usual, standard RPN rules apply. No Gary and Mary Sues, OP characters, godmodding, yada yada yada.
For the rhythm of this RP, I've got a lot of ideas and plot lines planned so I'll have to require a casual one post per week consisting of at least 3 paragraphs. (A paragraph being three sentences long) But when it comes to interactions between OCs, I don't mind short 1-2 paragraph posts. I don't mind grammar and punctuation mistakes but please try your best to keep things readable and understandable~!
I will only be allowing one OC per roleplayer. When it comes to referencing canon characters and events, I've augmented the timeline of events in the series a bit so as to not spoil anything in the series as well as to make this roleplay more open to those who have not read the book! That being said, I'll be looking for just six people for this RP. However, this doesn't mean the slots are first come, first served! I will base everything entirely on your CS!
I deeply apologize if your CS doesn't make it into the final six but keep in mind that I may reopen this interest check in the future in case I need extra roleplayers for some plot lines I shall not divulge.The BasicsOkay~! Before I get into the plot I've planned, I should explain the world that we're in fairly quickly. I will post a lore thread that explains a LOT of the other details if this gets enough attention!
This RP is set in modern day Earth, with the majority of mankind unaware of the existence of magic. The world is inhabited by four kinds of people; Humani, Immortals, Elders, and Dark Elders. Humani are, well, humans. They possess little to no power in their aura, except for a select few. Immortals are Humani that have obtained immortality, either from being bestowed immortality by an Elder or some other means such as The Elixir of Life.
Elders are the deities of old that ruled the world alongside other Races. After the internal wars amongst the Elders that caused the downfall of Danu Talis, the Elders were scattered out of Earth into their various Shadowrealms, worlds, and realities crafted from their magic to resemble that of Danu Talis' glory days. This is when the Humani rose to power, populating the Earth and securing their conquest on their earthen domain.
Aside from Elders, there are Dark Elders. These are the deities caused the internal wars to occur in the first place, consequently being locked up in the various Shadowrealms by a powerful Mage. Now, they fuel that desire to rule over Earth once again, either enslaving or killing all of mankind in doing so. But being unable to free themselves of their chains, they desire the power that the Codex may bestow upon them.
The Codex is an ancient, 21-page, metal-bound book that contains, among many things, various spells, The Final Summoning, the prophecy, and an encyclopedia of the world's knowledge. The Final Summoning is the spell which every Dark Elder thirsts for, a spell that grants the user full control of every spell possible and is allowed to summon back the Dark Elders trapped in their Shadowrealms by the Mage.
The Immortals have been battling corrupted Immortals and Elders for millenia, and have since entrusted the Codex to the most powerful mage of each era, calling he who has the book, the Guardian. But now, the Guardian of the Codex has been kidnapped and spread across the various Shadowrealms, it is up to the Six Purities to protect the Codex from falling into the wrong hands.MagicThe magic in question has five divisions; alchemy, necromancy, sorcery, elemental magic, and scrying. The other divisions will be explained in the lore page, but right now the most important one would be the elemental magic, which is explained into further detail in the next tab. To cast spells from any magic divison, one would need to activate their aura.
Every person has an aura, but only a handful are strong enough to manipulate the magics. Auras can come in various colors, the most common being multicolored. Auras that are purely one stable color are extremely rare. However, raw magical power is connected to aura purity rather than aura color. Rare aura colors would be gold, silver and black. Color isn't the only thing attributed to an aura, scent is as well. Each person's aura is connected to a scent, usually one that is emotionally linked to the character's persona. (Note: The smell doesn't have to be a pleasant one, but I think pleasant ones are the way to go. But I mean, you do you!)
Using the aura consumes considerable amounts of energy and strength. Using too much auric energy drains the life force of its owner, resulting in rapid and dramatic aging (sometimes eroding years or decades within seconds). If the aura is completely exhausted, the magic will continue to drain energy from the host's body in a process known as spontaneous combustion.the plotAfter trying very hard to condense as much context as I could into the previous headers, we can finally move on to what your characters will be doing~! So, for the first plot line, your characters are each going about their normal lives after the dream incident before you are each attacked by various enemies. If you survive the attack in one piece, the world of Magic is made known to you in all its bloody glory. Completely shocked by the bizarre encounter, it is revealed to you that you are one of the Chosen Purities, tasked with learning and mastering your magic in hopes to defend the Codex against corrupted Immortals, Dark Elders, and other Ancient Races to push back Armageddon. Now it is of utmost importance that you make it alive to the nearest Elder so that they may Awaken the power that is inside you so you may master your magics before the worst happens.the prophecy

- the ELEMENTSTHE MAGIC OF FIRE Masters of fire magic are capable of creating and manipulating fire and heat using auric energy to devastating effect. In addition to wielding massive destructive power, fire magic can be used to seal wounds and heal injury, or to keep warm in harsh climates. Fire magic is dangerous to the wielder if not controlled properly, easily running out of control and destroying the spellcaster. Some abilities include healing, thermokinesis, pyromancy, and welding.
THE MAGIC OF WATER Masters of water can alter the state, shape, pressure, and composition of water in nearly any conceivable way. In addition to wielding overpowering manipulative tactics, water magic can be used to manipulate weather. Water magic is a magic limited to its environment. Much like TLA Waterbenders, Water Magicians tend to carry a canister of water on their person at all times. Powerful Water Magicians don't need to do this though as they can draw water from the air as well as plants around them. In the case of the Mage, he can create water at will. Some abilities include hydromancy, manipulation of bodies of water, thermokinesis, and weather manipulation.
THE MAGIC OF LIGHT While Earth, Fire, Water, and Air are the four physical elemental magics, Light and Darkness are the two abstract elemental magics. Masters of Light are not only capable of controlling the physical light, but the divine properties of light as well. Light Magicians can manipulate the brightness, direction, and temperature of a light ray. They are able to transform into state of being in which they are one with their emotions, acquiring a peace of mind, and are able to expel themselves of any dark intentions. In this state they are physically and mentally empowered, capable of moving at high speeds, withstanding more damage, and enhanced strength. Magicians well-versed in the Magic are capable of enhancing the good emotions of a person. Some abilities include Light Form, Light Manipulation, Light Travel, Emotion Manipulation.
THE MAGIC OF AIR Masters of air are capable of creating and manipulating air and winds using auric energy to incredible effect. In addition to wielding massive areal effect, air magic can be used for the power of flight and to control the weather. Air magic can be dangerous to the user since a majority of the powerful spells draw air from the user's lungs, which is hard to do when one is in the middle of a battle. Not only that, misguided air currents can easily sweep the user off balance as well as knock the air out of their lungs. Basically, the larger your lung capacity, the more effective you are as an Air Magician. Some abilities include aeromancy, exnomophis, flight, weather manipulation, thermokinesis, and typhokinesis.
THE MAGIC OF EARTH Masters of earth magic can alter the state, shape, and composition of the earth in nearly any conceivable way. In addition to being the most physically straining magics for both the user and the attacker, Earth Magicians can control earth-based life such as plants. Even until now, very little is known about the Magic of Earth. Experienced Earth Magicians have described it as the unification between two entities, you and the Earth. This differs from the other magics in the sense that you enforce your will onto the other elements instead of this unification. Abilities include lithomancy, phytokinesis, thermokinesis, and transmutation.
THE MAGIC OF DARKNESS While Earth, Fire, Water, and Air are the four physical elemental magics, Light and Darkness are the two abstract elemental magics. Masters of Dark are not only capable of controlling the physical darkness, but the demonic properties of darkness as well. Darkness Magicians can manipulate the intensity, body, and form of shadows to their desire. They are able to transform into state of being in which their emotions are overridden, becoming a ravaging mindless monster that can only be stopped by a Master Elementalist Magician with a Pure Aura. In this state they are even more physically empowered than that of a Light Magician, capable of moving at high speeds, withstanding more damage, and enhanced strength. Magicians well-versed in the Magic are capable of erasing, manipulating and rewriting the bad emotions of their victim. Some abilities include Shadow Form, Darkness Manipulation, Shadow Travel, Emotion Manipulation. - extra info!
