Aldaf didn't stop Kari, instead letting out a drawn-out gasp and comically bending backwards away from her.

"MY PERFECT HAIR! OH NO!" He says in an obviously joking voice before laughing and returning to a normal sitting position. To mess with the interloper, he used some wind to blow her face a tad.

Serik returned from the bathroom just in time Targus started to explain about what the group was going to do in that day. It seemed Serik and the others would have to join other students in the elemental class in the morning, their own exclusive class in the afternoon and the evening at Targus's workshop. As Serik was still doubting that he would bring out something special regarding his magic today, the last schedule sounded the most promising, for perhaps Serik could find something useful there to add to his arsenal, which as of current, was kind of lacking.

The group then proceeded to head for breakfast. Serik sat down to munch over his meal while he listened to his friends speaking over the table. Kari found out that the group would have to split to study in different location, with wind, water and light taking place near the river and lightning and fire in the dome they went to yesterday. Serik always like the river, so perhaps this day mightn't actually be so bad then... At least he still got to train in the middle of nature, something he always like... Having the cheerful Aldaf, the familiar Gerel and especially Marylka near by would also be a plus.

Serik chuckled as he saw Kari' ruining Adalf's wind hairstyling while the latter retaliated.

For most of her life, Marylka had dreamed of studying magic at the Academy. However, as she sat at the end of the table, chin resting on the heel of her palms, pushing pieces of fruit around her plate with a fork, it was safe to say the girl looked far less enthused than someone who'd just realized their dream should have been. Then again, impending doom had a way of damping the mood for a lot of things. While her talk with Leandra the night before had swayed her towards the idea of joining the group on their mission, there was still the issue of her evident inability to hold her own in a fight against vicious undead monsters.

When she heard the cheer in Kari's voice as she spoke about their upcoming elemental classes, Marylka looked up from her breakfast with slight bemusement. "Your attitude towards magic has changed quite a bit. You're much more accepting of your powers now." When they'd first met, the spirited, headstrong Estendorian girl seemed dead set on never using her magic no matter the circumstances. Now, she almost sounded excited and even eager to learn. "It's nice to see." She commented plainly.

Emma sighed leaning back as her ears were still ringing from the loud noise. She laid there, half of her body on the ground the other half proped against the bed. Wrapped up in a blanket cocoon, she was now fully awake and had to figure out how she was to get out of her situation. After wiggling around and the rest of her falling off the bed she managed to escape.

After getting ready of the day the red head joined the others for breakfast. She was very curious about the classes they were to attend after their meal. Emmaline quitely ate not saying much unless spoken too. Her eyes drifting off to each person at the table quietly observing everyone. When breakfast came to an end Emma yet again like during their other meal the night before made sure to take some snacks for the road.

Kari laughed, the wind didn't do much to mess with her hair, but that's what she loved about it.
Marylka's comment evoked some thought and Kari's smile disappeared. "I'm still not sure how I feel about it to be honest, but, it's come in handy more than once, at least with this type of weapon I feel a little more confident confronting what we're up against."

"Excuse me," someone had approached their table, from his dress Kari guessed he was an assistant teacher.
"I was asked to bring those without an elemental affinity to Targus' workshop, if there was an interest."
Of course, nobody knew about their 'second powers' so that meant anyone who didn't use one of the five sky elements, wind, water, fire, thunder or light.
"Otherwise, you are welcome to sit in on any of the elemental classes."

The river sparkled with morning sunlight, partly shaded by palm trees, and decorated with tall papyrus fronds. Rhyne and Ord stood together on a wooden platform that had been slung between the banks in the center of the slow current. Both wore clothes fit for swimming, and it was clear they expected their students to get into the water and swim out to meet them. Rhyne, as usual, looked perfect, a neutral expression on his flawless face, while Ord was a bit more readable, clearly excited to begin what they had planned. He held a hide ball firmly under one arm.
"Today will be about control of an element to control your position in the environment." Rhyne said calmly. "Using your magic for offense is only a very small part, and it requires the least amount of precise control."
Ord continued: "What we'll be focusing on today, is moving through two elements, air and water, depending on your affinity, you will need to think in different ways. Firstly, we'd like you to use your magic to get yourselves onto this platform."

Keshka waited for her students to gather on the bank, dressed in her usual deep colours, the gold marks on her face even more visible in the bright sun. She was standing by a small round cut-away in the river's bank, where the water grew still and the reflections clear. From the stables several of the skybeasts watched with a curious interest. "Light illusions are created in principle from the bending of light, in order to understand how we perceive light, we'll be looking at, and manipulating its reflection in water."

The dome had a skylight, with a glass top several inches thick that could be drawn back to allow fresh air in. Under the grate beneath their feet the water that cooled the place ran swiftly. Targus was there, grinning wide, a hefty, blunted battleaxe over one shoulder, and so was Candour, clasping a waist-height walking stick in both hands before him. It was Targus who spoke first, pointing to a rack of a myriad of different training weapons.
"Go pick one." She told the students.

The workshop, just down the corridor from the training dome, was bright and as strange as it was awe-inspiring. The roof was a decorative latticework of metal and glass, letting light pour onto a wide, open workshop floor. All four walls of the long, rectangular room were work benches, some wood, others solid metal and in one corner there was an iron forge, a glass furnace and a pottery kiln, where custom parts could be fashioned. High shelves above the benches housed the half-finished projects of the students and in drawers, boxes and on the rest of the wall space were tools and parts of every conceivable shape, size and material. By the door was a bookshelf, where past students had written their ideas and the progress of their projects.
"I was told to let you explore, and to teach you how to use any of the tools you find here." The assistant said.

Luckily, Aldaf's clothes were well suited to not getting unbearable when wet. And a blow-dry once he was on solid ground would make things that much more bearable.

Aldaf was with Ord's class, having to get up on a platform above. It was... a bit challenging., and Aldaf had a moment to think. He'd always used his magic more for moving himself horizontally, as opposed to vertically. Dashing, running, even launching himself sideways off Spica. Going up... that was gonna be something else.

"I've done this, but differently. I always moved myself sideways... so what if..." Aldaf mused to himself, paddling idly, before he got an idea.

Angling himself sideways in the water, he flung his hands down with force, propelling himself up and out of the water like a breaching whale... to come back down basically where he started. A few more times, and he found himself unable to angle his descent, as he was basically falling straight back down on his side.

"Well, that's not working..." Aldaf said, a bit tired from launching himself and splashing back down. He dove down, touching the bed of the river, and jumped up, propelling himself upwards. He came up like a rocket... and began to sail over the platform before he summoned a gust to correct himself, landing rather ungracefully with a roll onto his back.

"I did it!" He called out tiredly from the platform, not caring who was on it at this point. He was new to the whole... upward vertical motion thing.

After his preparation. Serik eventually joined the younger youths with Keshka at the riverside, not so far from the stable. The water and wind magic class were also occurring nearby. Serik watched as his friends participated in some sort of trial that kind of remind him of water sport. Nonetheless, it seemed more interesting than his class which had yet to start any lesson.

As Keshka started speaking, Serik turned his attention to her. He was hoping that she might be teaching something that could be use in offense (not that Serik could think of anything for such matter though). However, it was quite a let down when Keshka said that she was only going to teach about another illusion trick. Serik sighed... At this rate how could he hope to prepare for the upcoming dangerous duty if all he would get to learn was just illusion?

Nonetheless, Serik would still try his best... He listened and looked for what he had to do with the water reflection.

Stepping out from the shade of the academy, the morning sun was almost too bright and Marylka reflexively brought her hands up to shield her eyes as they adjusted to the light. On a large platform in the middle of the river stood Rhyne and Ord, both looking far less dressed than she had expected them to be. Her eyes settled on Rhyne, taking in his expression and body language with careful regard in hopes of gaining some insight into the kind of person her teacher was but came up empty. She cocked her head and furrowed her brows the way she did whenever she was faced with a question she couldn’t solve. He brought to mind the marble statues she’d seen in the temple in Ocris. Perfect yet enigmatic. It was even possible that some of those statues may have been more expressive than he.

Wasting no time, the two men launched into an explanation of what the class would be doing that morning. "What we'll be focusing on today, is moving through two elements, air and water, depending on your affinity, you will need to think in different ways. Firstly, we'd like you to use your magic to get yourselves onto this platform." Ord concluded.

Excited chatter erupted around her as the first years started to brainstorm and discuss their ideas with each other. Marylka stayed back, pretending to let the solution completely elude her, allowing the other students to make their attempts first. No one liked coming in last, but she figured that as long as the oldest kid in class was still struggling, they wouldn’t feel too demoralised. One by one, the other water mages made their way over until it was just her left standing on the bank. Gently placing her hands on the surface of the flowing water, she thought of the rivers back home that froze over during the winter months. Slowly, the frost crept from her fingertips, spreading outwards until a pathway of solid ice occupied the space between the bank and the platform. She broke into a smile. Even after all these years, her heart still thrilled every time she accomplished something with her magic, no matter how small the feat.

Trepidatiously, she stepped onto the icy surface, testing first with one foot before placing her whole weight on it. It held, and she exhaled with relief. With no intentions of testing her luck, especially when the weather was working against her, she hurriedly shuffled across and just as her feet found purchase on the wooden platform she heard a distinct cr-cr-crack! Looking over her shoulder, she watched the icy fragments as they floated slowly away downstream.

Finally, the day had come. It was something he'd been looking forward to without realizing it, ever since the whole
situation had been revealed to their group. Class was starting for them that day and the group goofball seemed in even higher spirits than usual as they made their way towards their respective destinations. The workshop, where he was to be for the day, wasn't exactly what he had been expecting for his own classes, but he wasn't going to complain.
Though, one thing did strike him momentarily. It occurred to him that, despite how impressive and interesting everything in the workshop was, he... Didn't actually have any interest in learning to craft things like this. He wasn't a thinker or an inventor, the closest he ever got to anything like this was making traps and he already knew how to do that. Still, he did try to make the most of it, exploring different work areas around the workshop and investigating anything that caught his eye.

It was during his random and aimless exploring that he found himself picking up and examining a few small metallic creations of some kind, he couldn't really tell what they were supposed to be. Absent-mindedly, he rolled them over in his hand, thinking back and trying to force his mind to remember something from their locked memories, anything at all. Try as he might though, no memories came. But something else did, something similar. A feeling deep in his gut, reminding him somewhat of how he felt when he finally managed to make that seed sprout, even if it was just a very small bit of green. A sharp sting went up through his hand, and he shook it.

"Ow! What in the world?"

When he looked back at his hand, something odd struck him. The metal piece was stuck to it somehow. Pulling on it, he frowned as it wouldn't budge in the least. Without any clue as to what to do, Caliban walked over to the aid that was with their small group of workshop students and held out his hand to show it, tilting it to the side and upside down, the small piece of equipment still stuck there.

"I think I might have touched something I'm not supposed to... And now it won't come off..."

Katja had been standing there, awkwardly at being presented with the workshop before her. So many things she had rarely ever seen before in her time. Anytime she ever went into town and observed the artisans, they would shoo her away, naturally believing she was cursed or some silly thing.

So when she found herself in this place she felt horribly out of her element. She wasn’t really an artistic type- well, except maybe with tea leaves, but there wasn’t any of that in this room. So, she supposed, it was her time to just wander around the space.

Cautiously she took a few steps in a direction, changed her mind, walked in a different direction, until she found herself standing over in the pottery area, looking at the globs of clay, and drying pottery, and the available glazes. She looked at it all with blank eyes and an unreadable expression.

I wanted to learn the healing magic... she thought to herself solemnly. But I guess I’m just not any good at magic like my dad is. Or... I guess the rest of my family?

That thought threw her back. She was still getting used to the idea that she had more family than just her dad. The thought also made her heart flutter. She had a family? That cared about her? That whole day had felt like a fever dream.

She was about to sit down and poke around with the equipment when she heard some commotion over at the other side of the room. Turns out, somehow, the group idiot had managed to get something stuck on his hand. Why did he have to do that while looking darn cute in the process! How dare he, honestly.

She started to make her way over, prepared to help remove Caliban from the contraption.

She's wearing the first, green one.

Leandra was absentmindedly nibbling on her breakfast up until the assistant announced their presence and that they were there to collect those of the group who had the more secret magic abilities. This did not at all surprise Leandra and she merely nodded before standing up with a croissant in hand to eat along the way to the workshop. After all, she was very intrigued about the workshop and had definitely felt something when she was there last. It had been a feeling of deja vu.

As soon as she walked into the workshop, Leandra felt herself in awe of the architecture all over again. She stared up with a slightly gaping mouth and nearly walked into the shelf of student work. She took a step back and then glanced around to see the bookshelf with the previous students' work was located. She felt this sudden desire to look at all of it and walked away from their little group, not really noticing when Caliban got a piece of metal stuck to his hand.

With what felt like tunnel vision, Leandra began walking along the bookshelf and examining everything. She found a number of odd contraptions that were half finished and many weapons that made little sense, but had really complex blueprints to accompany their design. She drew to a halt with her heart pounding when she found a cluster of paperwork that had her handwriting on it. Eyes wide, she carefully picked up the blueprints and began to sift through them. There was a very complex crossbow design depicted in addition to a variety of unique arrows that would allow her to do so much more with a bow and arrow. Or even with this crossbow. But what confused her the most was the fact that most of the later designs in the bottom of the pile were made entirely of metal instead of having wooden shafts. They were also bolts instead of arrows.
Shaking her head, Leandra rolled up the designs and put them in the side of her knapsack. She then froze when she saw the partially built crossbow not too far away on the bookshelf. Slowly and gingerly, she retrieved it and held it up to eye level, as if she were taking aim. It had the general T shape a crossbow would start with, but was clearly missing the final parts to complete it. She had the blueprints, so it seemed she would be able to complete it on her own now. Except that the intricate metal designs and the way pieces were put together, it was impossible for Leandra to comprehend how she had been assembling the weapon. She had zero experience with metalworking, how could she have made such an intricate design such as this?

Baffled by her work, Leandra carried the partially completed crossbow back to the group. It was primarily a wooden framework, but metal had been expertly melded into sections and it looked as if it would eventually be able to fold up and unfold with the press of a button, but she had not managed to get that far with it before whatever happened to the group.

It was then that Leandra finally noticed Caliban's conundrum and she frowned, equally confused as he was.
"Cal, we haven't even been here for five minutes yet."
Inwardly she was facepalming, but outwardly she had a worried expression as she tried to figure out the logical explanation for why metal was quite literally stuck to Caliban's palm. Had there been some strong glue substance between him and the metal piece?

Matthias
Matthias stalked over to the weapons rack, a full head taller than most of the others—save for one, his kinsman. The racks were lined with what Matthias had come to recognized as traditional Westerosi weapons. He tried to keep an open mind, and as a show of good faith, even lifted up a sort-of curved, sickle-like blade which, at first blush, Matthias supposed would make a better farming tool than anything useful in war-making.

He hefted a large, broad-headed axe, notable for how distinct it appeared in terms of shape and make from most of the other tools on display. He turned it over in his hands. Northarian steel. He kept it, stepping back so that the others could take a look. Looking down and admiring the fine make of the axe, Matthias muttered, mostly to himself,

”Some of these are... Adequate.”

Rhyne winced as cold water splashed down his robes. Ord shielded his face with an arm but was beaming down at Aldaf as he lay on the darkening wood.
"Well! That was an excellent first attempt."
"But the goal of this lesson," Rhyne added cooly, "is control."

The ice crackled as it formed in the desert heat, but both Ord and Rhyne looked up as Marylka came gingerly across the bridge she had made. That even earned a ghost of a smile from Rhyne.
"Thinking outside the box. Good work." He said in his gentle monotone. "Now.."
The gesture was subtle, just a minor tap of the foot, but the water began to ripple and then turn on itself on small waves...but only in one, meter-wide stretch back to the shore.
"Try and get back."

Keshka had a slightly amused look on her face. "I see some of you, 'oh but look at the water and wind students, they're actually learning something!'"
She rounded on her students much like a wolf on a flock of sheep.
"Look into the water." She invited.
Some looked between them nervously, but other obeyed. The reflection of the sky, and the trees around them bent and rushed forward. Several fell back in surprise, one succumbed to vertigo, his body convinced it was falling, and plunged headfirst into the water.
"When you control what your opponents see, you control the battle. Just because light is not tangible, doesn't mean it can't be dangerous."
She began to walk away, "Light has the power to recreate someone's entire reality..." With every step another Keshka broke away from the original, encircling the group of students.
"It's up to you, light mages, to understand that reality, and bend it to suit you." Suddenly every single double vanished, along with Keshka herself.
She reappeared behind the group and brushed through them, standing so that her reflection appeared in the crystal surface.
"So, here's the challenge, throw me off my guard, using the reflections in the water."

"You don't seem to be in your element here. Perhaps you'd like to see the greenhouse instead?" The assistant voiced his observation to Katja quietly.

The assistant watched them all thoughtfully, when Leandra reached for the blueprints and then the half-finished invention on the shelf he brightened.
"Do you...recognize that?" Obviously he had been briefed on their condition. Anything they recalled he was probably supposed to report to Candour.

A noise drew all of their gazes at once. Caliban held out his hand and the assistant gave him a sympathetic look.
"Oh, sometimes the students leave their projects out for the adhesives to dry..." He reached out, there was a tiny snap and he drew his hand back from the shock.
The assistant looked baffled at first, but realization dawned soon after.
"That's not glue! You're a lightning mage!"

As soon as Matthias turned with the axe in his hand Targus let out a great bellowing laugh.
"See! I told you he would choose a Northarian weapon!" She grinned broadly at Candour, who sighed with a patient smile.
"So predictable! But that means more fun for me!"
Once Kari had chosen with the rest of the students (she had taken a long, bull whip) they turned to face their teachers.
Targus held the axe over her head. There was a shift in the air, just a split second before a bolt of lightning shot down and through the weapon. She held it out, still crackling with energy.
"This lesson is about channeling your magic into a physical object you wield...and also, not having said object explode right away. It's only slightly easier to contain your concentrated power in a physical object than it is to contain it in open space." She dropped the edge of the axe to the ground and the charge dissipated with a loud crack. The scent of ozone drifted across to them.
"Here's the task for today, try to hold your magic in the weapon for five seconds, without anything catching on fire. Okay...go!"

Aldaf nodded, taking a minute to catch his breath before looking at the rippling waves.

"Get back. Gotcha."

He internalized what Rhyne had told him. The lesson was about control, not utilization as he'd thought of before... He had to control his element to get back.

Looking back on it, Aldaf realized he never thought too hard about control. It was always large scale, twisters and shields covering his whole frame. Shields that pushed things away from him... hmm...

"Please don't let me get sopping wet again..." He whispered to himself, loud enough that Marylka could probably hear him. Wind swirled around him and he put his foot out, closing his eyes and leaning forward to step on nothing.

"OH FUCK!" Aldaf cursed as he wobbled, putting his other foot forward and hovering shakily in the air. He looked like he was about to fall, and he was practically dipping his feet in the water, but he was suspended over the current. He took a few deep breaths and closed his eyes, teetering less but still having a hard time controlling his height, he took another step..

After walking over the edge of the shore, Aldaf kept walking a bit longer before he dared to open his eyes and realize he'd overshot. He turned to look back and gave a grin, one mixed with relief and panic, before he abruptly fell with a yelp, just managing to roll on the ground again.

Holding the partially completed crossbow at her side, Leandra did not realize she had been almost hugging it until the assistant noticed what she was now holding. Cracking a smile, she held up the crossbow and turned it over in her hands with a soft touch.
"I...don't know. I think so? I just felt...drawn to it. But I don't understand how I would've even started making this with the metal pieces so intricately woven in as they are."

Her eyes wandered over the weapon and her mind began to wander, but her thoughts were interrupted when the assistant moved to take the metal off of Caliban's hand. Listening in on the conversation, Leandra gaped when the assistant proclaimed that Caliban was a lightning mage. How had the two of them lived their whole lives and never once experienced an ounce of magical affinity up until recently?
Moving to Caliban's side, Leandra let her crossbow hand from her hand at her side and nudged him with her elbow.
"Well, well. Look at you, mage. Try not to make all of the metal here bludgeon you to death or something crazy, yeah?"
Leandra grinned, waiting to see Caliban's reaction unfold.

Keshka didn't surprise Serik at all that she caught several students peeking over to the water and wind magic class. After a bit of nagging, she invited her student to looked to the reflection in the water again. Suddenly, the picture of sky, trees and cloud in the water began to distort, as if it really happened. Serik flinched in respond but some students were so spooked they ended up fell head first into the water.

Keshka then started walking around, and by doing so she created the illusion of herself, surrounding the group. While Serik had created his own illusion like this before, his were stiff and stationary, they didn't move around so fluidly and lively like what the instructor was showing here. Serik marveled at the performance as he looked at Keshka's mirror images moving about... Then suddenly, all of them, including the real Keshka herself disappeared into thin air. The instructor reappeared next to the water edge behind them.

"So, here's the challenge, throw me off my guard, using the reflections in the water." That was Keshka's order.

To created an illusion to move her? Serik started thinking. To him, Keshka seemed like the type of person not to scare of anything easily... And since she was just using her own, almost flawless illusion against the students, she would have probably very used to these trick to be easily moved by them.

Searching through his memory... Water, River, Fear... Suddenly, something came to his mind. Perhaps this would work? Serik wasn't sure if this would be what his instructor want him to do but it's worth a shot. The young man waited for the younger students to try their luck first, hopefully they would distract Keshka from him until he got his plan in place.

Making sure that Keshka was not looking, Serik concentrated at the river surface, the light that touched it. He closed his eyes, thinking, reflecting with his memory... Then the boy opened his eyes and stared right at where his target would be, the patch of water right next to where Keshka was standing... His concentration poured toward the spot.

Suddenly, the surface of the water broke. A large figure leaped up into the air. A Plakaao the length of a large crocodile emerged, splashing water everywhere, with its large maw opened, showing numerous sharp, tiny teeth. The giant Estendorian catfish had always been a staple tale where Serik lived, both as thrill seeker's entertainment and warning to children not to go swimming in the river where these catfish, also known as 'child-taker' inhabit. They are believed to grow large enough to swallow a toddler or small child whole. Serik had seen these creatures several times, once as a humongous carcass being shown in the market of Ocris, so huge they need 3 donkeys to carry the entire length of the fish... And a few times that his father and uncle managed to fish out from the river during their annual visit, although they were much smaller, no longer than a sheep.

Serik could hear some scream coming out of the crowd of students... But then suddenly, the giant fish froze mid air, as well as the water that spilled from the surface. Everything stopped as if time was frozen still... Only the gills of the fish still moved as well as its twitching whiskers. The imposing creature and all the splash were never there... They were all fake. Serik grunted in disappointment, his illusions never came out as good as he wanted them to be... They could only moved a few second after being created, but then they froze in place... Only moving a bit in small details.

Serik felt like he had become the target of numerous eyes... "I'm sorry... Did I do it right? Was I supposed to do that?" He spoke sheepishly.

The compliment from Rhyne caught Marylka by surprise and she felt the heat blossom in her cheeks. Thankfully, everyone had their attention on their instructors instead who had promptly moved on to the next item on their agenda. With a tap of his foot, small waves began to rise from the surface of the river along the stretch where her bridge of ice once stood, and crashed softly against the platform. Awe replaced her earlier feelings of embarrassment as her mind immediately tried to work out the mechanics behind the magical feat she’d witness.

“Now, try and get back.” Rhyne said coolly as if it was the easiest thing in the world. Easier than trying to fight off a horde of deathborns at least.

Next to her, Aldaf muttered a quiet prayer. "Failing is part of the process." She responded curtly. "It’s better to fail when the consequence is just getting your clothes wet." Her tone gentler now, the bite taken out of the unfiltered nature of her words. A gesture of comradeship. "I'll see you on the other side."

Turning her focus back to the task at hand, she considered her options. A bridge of ice was not going to work in this scenario. The waves would wash the bridge away faster than she would be able to freeze the water. She could try propelling herself across with a jet of water but with nothing except for solid ground to catch her on the other side, it was a disaster waiting to happen. While she wasn’t strong enough to simply force the river out of her way, she could perhaps try to redirect the currents in small sections and let nature do the rest.

She tuned in to the currents, feeling the flow of energy through the water. When she was ready, she pushed with her own magic, shifting the currents ever so slightly and splitting the river into two the way a rock fin might create distributaries. The result was a space wide enough for her to stand in at the edge of the platform. She hopped down and began to walk forward. As she did so, the invisible fin moved with her, clearing the path for every step she took before the water closed behind her. Occasionally, an errant wave would crest higher than expected and threaten to crash down on her, but her magic reacted as she did and moved to divert the crisis as best it could. Eventually, she made it across and climbed back up on to the bank right as her hold on the river dropped. Tired and not entirely unscathed - her clothes sported dark patches from the times she hadn’t been able to redirect a wave fast enough - she sat down on the ground with heavy breaths. “That was… invigorating.”

As Lea approached, he gave her a goofball grin, as he always had when they were growing up. Definitely not the first time he'd gotten himself into an odd situation.

"It's not my fault... This time.. I think..."

Though, he quickly realized he might be wrong about that. It wasn't the explanation he'd been expecting. Then again, he knew very little about lightning and what it could do outside of shock things, though the small pulse of static the assistant received lent some credibility to the claim.

"What? No, no I'm pretty sure I would know wouldn't I? Or... Maybe not...? I guess we did sort of... Forget.. But it's probably just stuck, one of the students could have... I.. Don't know really..."

As far as the idea of magic was concerned, Caliban had very little confidence in actually possessing those kinds of abilities. He hadn't ever actually considered himself special, at least not special enough for something like that. Recently, however, many things had started to change for them all. Memories they didn't even realize they had, skills and abilities they'd honed according to the staff here at the school, fights they'd won without ever knowing. Until those fragments of past events started to slot themselves back into place and the group began to recall them.

"I'm sure it'll come off if we could pull on it really hard. I don't have magic, it's probably just something the student did."

With some effort, Cal set about trying to pull the small metal object from his hand, twisting at it with his off hand and pulling, though apparently all he succeeded in doing was sticking it to the opposite hand this time.

With breakfast and pockets filled with treats and snacks for later, Emmaline was ready to start out her day. She looked over as someone walked over to their table letting them know that she would be taking those without any elemental affinity to a workshop. This intrigued Emma, curious to know what wonders did this workshop hold.

Emmaline’s eyes were wide and filled with curiosity as they entered the workshop her eyes scanning every inch of the large room. “Wow...” she softly whispered to herself as she looked up at the ceiling admiring the decorative latticework of metal and glass and how the light shined through it. There was so much stuff to look at and all types of materials at each corner of the room. It was all a tad overwhelming to the short redhead. Emma kept looking around unsure what to look at first, after a few minutes deciding to start at one corner and work her way around.

Emmaline was among the glass furnace looking at the lovely glass creations when her attention was pulled over towards Caliban. It seemed he had gotten something stuck to his hand. She watched as Katja, then later followed by Leandra. As both girls made their way over to Caliban looking a bit annoyed as if he had gotten himself into things in the past that he shouldn’t have.

The short girl made her way over to the assistant after overhearing about a greenhouse. Curious she quietly waited for the assistant to finish helping Caliban. Having learned that it seemed that Caliban was actually a lightning mage. “Excuse me..” Emmaline softly spoke up. “you said something about a greenhouse?...” Emma asked looking up at the assistant “I would like to go see the greenhouse if that is okay” Emma added.

Keshka's face remained placid but for a small raise in a single eyebrow. She inspected the illusion closely before speaking two simple words.
"Not bad."
The other students, still grinning after the initial shock started whispering among themselves. That was as good as anyone had gotten from Keshka.

Ord laughed as Aldaf made it to the other side, offering applause.
Rhyne nodded to Marylka with calm approval.
"Good, let's keep working." Ord told them as the other students began to follow suit. Some copying the first two students (with varying success) others trying their own inventive ways to meet the challenge.

The assistant, who was more than familiar with magic, smiled at Caliban's reluctance.
"It's okay, just relax, take a deep breath. The metal should drop." He took a device from one of the benches: a small square box with a bit of copper wire sticking out of it, and a glass face with some sort of dial. When he held the device close to Caliban's hand the needle on the dial shot around its axis.
"That's quite a current." Still, seeing the boy wasn't quite convinced of his ability the assistant offered: "Targus would be able to give you a definitive answer. You should seek her out in the elemental dome when you're done in the workshop. Meanwhile, I can take miss Katja and miss Emmaline to the green house."
He started for the door, assuring the students that they could stay in the workshop if they liked, provided they didn't make a mess.

As the lessons wore on, it was clear the teachers were pushing the chosen youths harder than the rest of the class. Keshka began to take Serik aside through the illusion practice, refining his techniques and form.
Ord and Rhyne gave Marylka and Aldaf more and more complicated tasks that pushed their control to its limits.
Candour and Targus singled Kari and Mattias out for surprise attacks, trying to unbalance them, and offering praise when they kept their elements linked to the weapons they held.
It wasn't long before a break was called, and the students were allowed to meet int he courtyard and the garden where a light lunch had been laid out.
Kari collapsed onto the cool grass, her clothes damp with sweat, both from the fire, and from how hard the teachers had pushed her and Matthias.
"You'd think they were trying to kill us." She complained, but she was grinning, happy for the challenge.

The green house stood beside the second year dorms, just in front of the stables, a big glass house that had a feed from the river flowing directly into it. All sorts of exotic plants could be seen through the misted walls. Inside it was so humid you could almost feel your hair curl. The fresh scent of wet soil and the soft fragrance of flowers perforated the air. The walls of the greenhouse were lined with thick vegetation but in the center of the house, there was a circular bed of fresh, empty soil, almost like a miniature arena. A wooden table sat off to the side, sporting several trays of tiny black seeds.
"Welcome to the greenhouse!" The assistant said. "Here we grow many of the fruits and medicinal plants we use at the academy. Feel free to look around, but please, ask before you touch any of the plants, some of them can be quite poisonous."

Aldaf joined up with everyone after his classes went their separate ways for lunch, grateful for the reprieve from the rather grueling classes.

He wasn't as sweaty as some of the others, but only because after they broke off from class he blasted himself with wind to dry himself off. He was still rather tired out, though, and was grateful for the provided lunch.

"Yeah, I agree. But its what we have to do." He took a bite and chewed it, swallowing it and feeling relief at some actual food entering his stomach after all of that training.

"But at least we're learning a few more tricks to help out later, so consider me both nervous and excited!"

The compliment from Keshka was a welcomed sign for Serik, but it merely relieved him of his pressure and barely made him feel any much joy... After that it was a continuous training of improving his illusion skill. Serik couldn't help and felt that Keshka seemed to be pushing him harder than other students, not that he was surprised about it though. The slight relief at the beginning of the class had disappeared.

By the break, Serik had slightly improved from what he could do prior to the class. His illusion could move longer and more convincing, but they would still ending up freezing in the spot after a while. He felt exhausted. Magic using had drained him of both strength and mind power.

Waddling back to his group, Serik quietly took his lunch and ate it. It felt so... bland, like he was eating wind and water. Academy's food had always been a delight for Serik, so this must be entirely on himself. Exhaustion had made him frail and his mind was in confusing mess... He didn't know what was wrong with him and why he didn't do it as well as he wants it to be. Serik knows that he must have some potential in himself, the vision had showed him so... And the fact that he relearnt his ability in just the split second of dire encounter with Stonewarg must have meant something. Despite all the evidence however, Serik couldn't seem to improve much beyond what was handed to him. In the same time span of waking up at Arebos to attending the academy, some of his companions like Marylka and Aldaf had learnt a lot of their skill and incorporate it in many ways to assist them. Serik on the other hand, felt as if he was still stepping in the same ground, barely moving forward and couldn't see any destination as well. The fact that the time for them to depart on Danube rescue mission was ticking behind only pressured Serik more... Will he ever get to relearn something more useful for once, or will he only be worthy as a distraction for the up coming task?

Serik took another meaningless bite from his food as his eyes looked away to the sky above, not really paying attention to what his friends were communing.

The exhaustion Marylka was experiencing was unlike any other. Every part of her body felt weak, muscles pushed to the point of fatigue, and she cringed just thinking of the soreness that was sure to greet her the next morning, but her blood felt like it was thrumming with power. It ran all the way to her toes and fingertips, like currents of energy flowing through her veins, warming her from the inside out. It was intoxicating and she recounted the different ways Rhyne had thought her to use and control her magic in her head on an endless loop, eager to expand her abilities even more.

For the first time in a long time she felt more like herself than she ever had and unbeknownst to her, it even reflected in the way she looked. She held herself taller and with more confidence, and her normally pasty complexion seemed to glow with the natural flush that had appeared combined with the sheen of sweat. Even her appetite improved. Since arriving at Westeros she had barely eaten, and the few times she did, she was like a bird picking at seeds. Now she piled her plate high and excitedly shoveled spoonfuls of salads, grilled meats, and freshly baked flatbread into her mouth, eyes widening at the spectrum of flavors assaulting her taste buds. She was so engrossed in her meal she hardly heard what anyone else had said.

Eventually it was the quietness of one that caught her attention. She raised a brow watching as Serik mindlessly put food into his mouth while staring blankly up at the sky. Setting her plate down, not without some reluctance, she scooched over to where her friend sat and cleared her throat. "Existential crisis is a look I know very well. Are you doing okay?"

Emmaline had made her way over to the assistant in hopes that she would be able to go to the greenhouse as well. Emma looked over at Katja and smiled excited to go see this greenhouse before following behind the assistant as they left the workshop.

As they reached the greenhouse she took noticed that it wasn't far away from the stables. She wondered why she hadn't notice the large glass structure before. She figured she was always focused and excited to see Angus that she didn't really take notice of her surroundings. A small gasp escaped Emma's lips as they entered the large glass house. She never knew a whole house could be made out of glass. She quickly took notice of the sights, smells and sounds found within the greenhouse and she quite enjoyed them. Aside from it being more warm and humid which she really didn't like. She pushed away that small discomfort, excited to explore this new place. Her face lite up as they were permitted to go off and explore the greenhouse. Which she quickly left the assistants side and did so. The short girl happily smiled quite enjoying the soft peaceful sound of the river flowing through, the smell of wet soil and flowers made her feel quite happy. Emma walked around with her hands behind her back as she explored the area. She believed that this would help with her curiosity of wanting to touch any of the plants. She was amazed at the large number of plants their could be, most of all the sheer number of colors and shapes of all the different of flowers.

Serik was deep in his thought when a voice called him back to his consciousness. It was Marylka, a bit of surprise but not entirely unexpected. If it was last night, Serik would have been eager to chat with her... However, since she cut their conversation short and disappeared during the night, Serik had been feeling quite down... Not that he was angry with Marylka or anything, it's just that she had to choose the most unfortunate time to leave and to wanting to talk to him... If anything, Serik was more irritated with his luck...

"Oh hey, Marylka..." Serik spoke calmly before slightly lifted a little smile. "I... I am fine... I am just a bit drained, you know from all the practice." Answered the young man. "What about you? You seem... Content, exhausted but content." Serik asked Marylka back, trying to turn the direction of their chat back to the girl's side. Serik then proceeded to put the last bite of his lunch in his mouth, which he also just noticed.
