GhostRider

Owlbear in the Playground
Hello Trainers!

Welcome to my fun creation. A homebrew Pokemon region using the Pokemon Tabletop United system and lots of love. I want to point out right away that I have just grabbed images online for this game and don't any of them lol I'm a terrible artist but I love storytelling as well as Pokemon. So I'm looking for 4 players to start off their own Pokemon journeys. Now this is a very sandboxy ttrpg so you won't have to feel pressured into becoming a Pokemon Master challenging gym leaders and such. Somebody could be a scientist, a cook, a martial artist, a pokemon breeder, or even a contest goer! For those new to the system, it's the sister game to the Pokemon Tabletop Adventure ttrpg, and works somewhat similar from what I hear but I don't know first hand. You can visit their personal site below to download all their pdfs for free: most comes in a .zip file but Galar info is a download on its own. In essence it's a d6 system that uses d20's for accuracy and other dice for damages.

Below contains lots of setting info but this will also be collaborative since its a sandboxy pokemon game. Large cities will be described in detail but players are free to make some thing up. You wanna check out a Poke' Pawnshop that's down an alley in a big city and not on an actual map? No biggy lol I encourage fun, creative, roleplaying like that! And I'm a fairly easy going game master, so I will more often than not say Yes to something only on the sheer fact that we all like the idea. I'm also brand new to this site so bare with me as I get used to the set up XD

Without further ado, I present............................POKEMON: THE ORSAY REGION

All of this system's content is available to everyone for free. You should never have to pay for this. So I'm including in the next slides links to download the .zip file off of Mega and links to Gen 8 google docs for that info as well.
PTU .zip file
Contains the core rules & more
Gen 8 Pokedex

Gen 8 moves/abilities
Link to Galarian moves/abilities/etc.
Google Doc Character Sheet
Just copy this to a new file and away you go! It does lots of math for you too.
Character Sheet Example / Rival Trainer
It's pretty simple to see that he's a Speed Ace so Trick Room would screw his day XD
#1
Follow the character creation guide as per the Core Rules pdf. None of you are complete noobie trainers, just young up and comers. So you will each start as a Level 3 Trainer.
#2
As for what Pokemon you may choose to start with: Your starter 'mon will be Level 15 and can be anything you choose except for legends, mythics, and ultras (pseudos are fine, as are 'mons who don't evolve) If it evolves by level 15 it may indeed start evolved if you wish but is not necessary as Eviolite is a legitimate strategy in the ttrpg as well. Each chosen trainer will also start with a gifted Level 5 baby Pokemon. By "baby" I simply mean a stage 1 'mon that CAN evolve later on.
#3

For your back stories I'm not asking for anything special. The Doc sheets even have separate sections so no need to feel pressured into writing numerous paragraphs. Some examples: Where'd you come from? Are you a native or not? Why'd you become a trainer? What are your hobbies and goals? Do you have any fears or drawbacks? I've never seen a Pokemon trainer in a wheelchair but it would be interesting.
#4
As per the Core Rules, each trainer receives a Pokedex from their region and 5000 pokebux. Also include your Trainer ID and a Pokegear, both have no price.
#5
Any further questions you may have along the way feel free to ask. I don't shun new players to a system so I'll work with you on your build if you don't feel confident in making what you want.

Setting Info
General Orsayan History

Long ago it was nothing more than a small city with an oil rig off the coast. That oil rig not only supplied resources to neighboring regions, but helped make a name for itself. That all changed when the now retired elite four member, Lance, spent most of his fortune and helped spark a revolution in Pokemon culture. The Orsay region became a melting pot of generations and cultures. He wanted everyone to have a chance to experience strange Pokemon never before seen in Kanto and Johto. Because of this openness Lance wanted to share, the S.S. Anne never charges for a ticket toward Orsay. Things really changed with the induction of Heleolisk into the region which eliminated Orsay's need of the oil rig. They have since been using clean energy and an influx of tourists. So many tourists in fact that the Orsay region made more money then they ever did as a small city with an oil rig.
Orsay City

The very first city in Orsay. It was simply a fishing and mining town before Lance came into the picture. They have thankfully kept a lot of their heritage even with the massive influx of tourists every year. Their fish markets are a very big attraction all year round and families who choose to settle here can benefit from the local Trainer's School/Daycare. But for many trainers in Orsay this is their first experience at gym battling, mainly because the leader Scott loves helping young trainers start their journey.
Arrowroot Town

One of the smallest towns in the Orsay region. This is the general "starting town," the place where people go to to retire and where many young trainers come to start their journies. It's a peaceful quiet town but still full of energy. Two children call this home, while one of them is the grandchild of the Orsayan Pokemon Professor, Linden. A name rater also calls Arrowroot his home and frequently gifts trainers with handy items for their Pokemon's fun and interesting nicknames.
New Tork City

The largest city in Orsay. Not quite a metropolis but with it's towering apartment buildings, business towers, and more it sure feels that way. This is the hometown of Emily the Dark/Psychic gym leader as well as hundreds of vacationing tourists. This city is never ending, something is always going on. More than likely at the Gambling House lol but there hundreds of little shops scattered about the city. Those of the scientific mind could enjoy the museum and fossil lab. Unfortunately towns this big tend to attract criminals. The police try their best but there are still just more reports of thieves in the night or someone getting robbed in a dark alley. Some even say they've seen people wearing Team Rocket shirts like they were cool or something.
Crown City
The second largest city in Orsay and is very much the sister city to New Tork. Complete with a massive Guild Hall for breeders, ranchers, cooks, etc., a mansion dwarfing every other building in Orsay, and a grand coliseum for the national Olympics. Most trainers tend to compete in such athletic events to get them primed and ready for the local Fighting Gym and it's impervious leader, Borus.
C.G. City
Deep in the snow-capped mountains of Orsay is a gorge, CG City glistens with the many crystals found around the city. It's gym leader and mayor, Hunter is an expert ice cream & slushie maker. A research center was constructed to study the crystals after a possible Crystal Onix was rumored. More importantly is the greatest tourist attraction of CG City, a large ski resort in the mountains that has grand scale Pokemon battles for those deemed champions at least once.
Mullberry Town
A small town but filled with many people always on the go or stuck here working as a farmer. It's grandiose Berry Orchard is quite a spectacular sight to behold however; with it's thousands of colors all in rows or some years set in a shape. The gym leader, Rowena owns the large plot of land in town which sits her personal ranch, her grass gym, and a market of caravan wagons and the many nomadic families that travel Orsay in them.
Onix Tunnel
Upon building toward the desert of Orsay, people discovered a tunnel that looks to have been dug out by numerous Onix thousands of years ago. They reinforced it where they thought necessary but left as much as they could untouched to act as yet another Orsayan attraction.
Diglett Village
What's to say about Diglett Village other than it looks like a cross between the Australian Outback and the Wild West? lol Not many people call this place their home but those who do are lovers of the harsh wilds that overtake this village. Sand is everywhere, even whipping in the air. But for Lacey, the ground type gym leader she calls this her habitat. She is in essence a female Steve Irwin lol She's a Pokemon Ranger who loves getting up close and personal with all the Pokemon she meets. She gives trainers special gifts as well when they bring her species she has never seen before, like shinies lol
Bewilder Forest
A mysterious forest that is said to house something quite sinister. People have gone missing at night and been found crawling out of the forest weeks later. At night ghost pokemon love to get people lost in the forest for a couple hours but nothing to those extremes. Only trainers who have proved their mettle are allowed to enter anymore but are still strongly encouraged to anger whatever lurks.
Sunflora Lodge
A lodge owned by the family who originally opened the Orsay Ski Resort. In their retirement there bones couldn't handle the cold snow. So they paid to have a section of the forest cleared to start the largest farmland in Orsay as well as it's only Safari Zone.
Metallica Town
An oil rig that once fueled Orsay's economy and generators. Now however it sits in the ocean; quiet to everyone on the mainland. But that couldn't be further from the truth. Hundreds of people who once worked here, now call this big rust bucket their home. These were the people who loved the ocean life. Rather than moving to Hoenn (because 7/10, too much water) they remade sections of the rig to suit their needs. Welded hallways lead into many living quarters the size of a cottage and makeshift shops selling homemade goods. The chief engineer of the rig, Charlotte, is also the gym leader and a lover of dirty work. Not only a master of steel type Pokemon, she is a master of mechanics.
Wisteria City
A spooky town reminiscent of Lavender Town. With a graveyard in the middle of town for tourists to come pay respects for the dead at a shrine and for natives to visit their lost Pokemon. It's gym leader, Zachariah, tends the graveyard daily, practices voodoo, and has been the powerhouse in trying to grow crops dead in the desert. Thankfully there has been some good luck with the soil they have found so far. Wisteria also houses a creepy market sector based all around the occult.

Posting interest.

Awesome! :) Anything specific you think you may like? Ace Trainers are a pretty standard choice if you have a favorite type or ability (like the rival trainer focusing in Speedy Pokemon rather than a specific type, even if he loves electric types overall lol)

Is Rowena/Mullberry Town a Grass or Normal Type gym? Reviewing the world map and location information, I'm leaning towards clarifying that Taylor's family lives near Mullberry, south of Route 2, Northeast of the large mass of woods surrounding Bewilder Forrest proper, basically somewhere around Q or R 22 on the grid of the region map.

Rowena is the Normal type gym leader. Grass gym is all the way South of Mullberry.

Edit: I updated the map to reflect as such XD musta just missed that mistake upon my final look through lol

Edit2: I'm going to spend Saturday making some maps and the starting a of an IC post. Feel free to make any changes to your character until Sunday. I will go over characters that night and post my picks Monday morning :)

Seven folks want to do the Gym challenge, but only 2 are interested in winning and becoming champion... so are the rest of us are planning to fail?

I wanna be sorta adequate
*fiddles with Pokedex*
Not sure what this thing does...
I guess I'll just try my best
But I might be a lost cause!

Alrighty well this was a tough decision last night. I'm slowly still waking up right now but I'll at least post my selections for the game :) once I actually feel like a human being today I will post the IC thread on RpNation lol I even went against my original idea of 4 players max and chose 5 players for the game.

Without further ado. The selected characters to venture into the Orsay Region is:

CardTrick w/ Taylor the Dilettante-Breeder

Jumbus w/ Chuck the motivational Indiana Jones

Hazuki w/ Chanser the Juggling capture specialist

Hannahbug3 w/ Aloynius the Glamour Weaver

TetsuKnife(TK) w/ Mossopal the lonely apparition

I will send you all a PM as soon as I get the IC & OOC threads up and running :)
