THICKER THAN WATER
Caio tore a bloody path that was a straight line to the back of the warehouse, leaving broken and split bodies in his wake. He trusted his fellow Serpents to do what they did best: cause havoc. He was too focused to pay their individual battles any attention. His forward march was only halted when the fog lifted and he found himself coming face-to-face with a tall, black corridor that led dick knows where. There was an ominous chill in the air emanating from within. The hall seemed to slope gently downward, as if it were leading them into the underworld.

"What the hell..."

Caio's transfixion with the corridor broke as Kyoden appeared by his side. He turned toward the man and nodded—knowing that their wills were as one on this point—before he called over his shoulder.

"OI! ANY OF YOU THAT AREN'T DEAD FINISH YOUR SHIT AND FOLLOW ME DOWN HERE."

He didn't wait—he couldn't wait—to see if anyone was following him. He didn't care. His little brother was down there somewhere, and he was coming to bring him back.

THE SUN IN THE GUTTER

The explosion stopped Yuna’s heart as it echoed down the hall and she immediately whipped her body at the sound. One after another, they kept going along with the sound of the alarm.

‘What the fuck?!’ She thought to herself as she lowered her mask, gritting her teeth. ‘Don’t tell me—‘

“Oh my god Yuna … What the fuck is going on?”

She confirmed the voice’s owner when she whipped her head back at where they were, Ten right behind him.

“I don’t know! Sounds like we’re FUCKED though!” She exclaimed with a hint of concern. Had anyone follow her? She hoped she wasn’t the reason the lab was revealed for an attack. She kept her speculations to herself.

She watched as Darius seemed to be frazzled before walking off and without a question, she followed him. She punched her knuckles together and small green flames surrounded her hands. At this point, she wasn’t sure what to expect, but with Ten patrolling in their shadow form, it was better to be safe than sorry.

As they came up to inform Darius of the enemies locations, her blood froze. They were surrounding them?! ‘I guess I picked a bad job didn’t I …’ She thought to herself. No matter, she was here now and she had a job to complete. The more money she gave back to the gang, the faster all of this would be over. She jumped in, “Darius, if you can find me a good vent to connects to where they are, we can unleash my poison, maybe we can put some of them down. But …” She stopped as she looked troubled by her own suggestion, realizing she could be putting her own allies in danger. She didn’t know where they were and she could potentially put them at risk if they weren’t already hurt.

She realized that they pointed out an enemy near them and the flames around her hands grew bigger, she wasn’t sure what Darius was gonna decide, regardless, she was here to either fight or run with them.

The Dragon and the Phoenix

Well. At least someone seems to be having fun.

Was Meirin’s thoughts as she stood, hand on hips, to hear Vulken’s answer. Even though most of her attention was on the tired-looking–but still attractive–redhead, she didn’t fail to notice the strange, eye-patched Phoenix that had saddled up next to Hou; The only one that seemed to enjoy his singing. Had the petite, pigtailed girl tried anything hostile towards the rookie Dragon, Meirin would have been ready to respond in kind, but alas, the wild questions/accusations directed at her caused her to turn beet red instead.

“Wha-? NO!”

The very idea of accidentally getting pregnant horrified her. Not that Meirin had anything against pregnant women or babies, of course, but she herself wasn’t ready for that sort of commitment. As a young child, she’d thought how nice it would be to have a mother. However, she’d never seen herself as a mother. No matter how many kids she had experience watching–Daisy had a lot of kids–they weren’t her children.

The evil twin thing was too absurd to even comment on…though it wasn’t outside the realm of possibility given Meirin’s lack of origin information and Vulken’s flirty personality. More mutters emerged. Fortunately, Meirin was saved from any further responses when another phoenix intervened on behalf of Vulken. Yong-Yut. The cloth-manipulator’s words eased her tension somewhat and a small smile formed on her face. It wasn’t the words themselves that did the trick–though they were all reasonable–but the polite way the taller girl expressed herself.

Isaiah had brought up valid points.

Even Ra had brought up valid points.

And so Meirin took a deep breath. She’d got the gist of Vulken’s partially cut off answer anyway. Held herself back from sending ‘Hellie’, the Dragon-hater, a satisfied smirk as well. Just barely. "Glad to hear it."

Instead she turned her attention to Yong-Yut and addressed the woman with a side-cut amicably.

“Nice to meet you, Yong-Yut. I’m Meirin.” Regardless of what Vulken may, or may not, have told his Phoenix friend about her, it didn’t feel right to meet new people without introducing oneself. Besides, she didn’t like the idea of being ‘known’ through another’s opinion of her. She wanted to represent herself. “You’re right, of course. My personal matters shouldn’t interfere with this meeting. I apologize if I caused a disturbance.”

Her tendency to speak before thinking had emerged once again. Regardless of how Vulken had answered, Meirin had no intention of pulling out a weapon over it, but anger roused more anger, especially in a tense atmosphere like this one. She did not want the whimsical relationship between her and Vulken to be what sparked war.

She didn’t think Vulken was the sort that would dupe her either, and she liked to think that she had good instincts about these things, but she’d been wrong about people before . Multiple times. Either way, that sort of thing could be discussed later. She knew she wasn’t being fair to Vulken since she generally didn’t talk about gang-related stuff on their ‘dates’ either. ‘I’m a member of the Azure Dragon Gang’ wasn’t the sort of thing that kept dates around. Meirin never lied when asked. She wasn’t ashamed of her affiliations. However she wasn’t openly declaring herself one either.

Glancing at Isaiah, who had actually proposed to cover any willing Dragon–that wanted to keep their identity hidden–under illusion for the ‘peace talks’, Meirin patted the Ace of their gang on his shoulder. His illusion’s shoulder. Whichever. She had a response for him as well. “Don’t worry about it. That caution is best thing about you~”

A playful wink accompanied her comment, though Meirin was fairly serious about it as well. Izzy was the Ace of the gang. He had responsibilities she didn’t. In fact, it was probably the serene presence of the Ace and Jack (Isaiah and Kanna) that kept the Azure Dragons in line. Meirin also wanted peace. She wasn’t present when the Dragon-Phoenix Alliance took place. Nor had she been present when the Dragon-Phoenix Alliance fractured with the fallen SEC bridge. Therefore, the ‘mistake’ that started it all wasn’t entirely clear to her. Was it when the large trailer car crashed? When Guardian misfired? When Drakken attacked the Steel Tempest? When the Steel Tempest broke the bridge? Either way, gang wars were tiring. They put civilians, like her sister, in danger.

Besides, wasn’t it a darn coincidence that their chase of the Cobalt Wolves led Ruri, Jespie, and Kanna straight to where some Scarlet Phoenixes were training? The more Meirin thought about it, the more some things just didn’t add up, but thinking about it too hard just gave her a headache. Hopefully the negotiations went well and the leaders worked out their differences.

Not everyone in the gangs felt the same way.

“I can do quiet fun !” As she spoke, Meirin’s body shrunk until she was roughly the size of a 6-inch action figure. With a running start, and several acrobatic flips and leaps, Meirin climbed her way onto Isaiah’s shoulder, next to his ear. Her voice had grown squeakier and softer, but next to his listening organ, he should be able to hear just fine. “To be honest, I’m a bit worried myself. I get the feeling it’s more than the extremist sections of our individual gangs that don’t want negotiations to go well.”

Though the radical sectors shouldn’t be underestimated either. Factions were beginning to form even in a tightly ordered gang like the Azure Dragons. Yo’s. Shen’s. Those that want war. Greed and ambition weren’t limited to the Tigers.

With her warning given, Meirin waved Yong-Yut closer before making a tiny HP leap over to the polite phoenix’s shoulder where she settled, cross legged, and pulled out a tiny phone from her sash. Watching from afar had started to grow boring. “So…what were you guys playing? Can I play too?”

To be frank, Meirin didn’t know much about the sorts of games Jesper liked to play. She enjoyed outdoor activities. Sports. The idea of sitting hours upon hours in front of a screen bored her to tears. Meirin mainly used her phone for calling, texting, and occasionally taking pictures. However, other than watching the phoenix gang for signs of trouble, watching her own gang for signs of trouble, or just keeping an eye on the area, there wasn’t much else to do at the moment. Some of her friends working in the Plat Rabbit texted her, letting her know that Ma Feng was back again, and she responded with a simple ‘ew’ but otherwise could do nothing about it. He was a regular, well-playing client of theirs. Unless he did anything to hurt the workers there, or incur Dragon wrath, his business was his own. She had ENP, the Serpents, and the growing ‘uprising’ against the Azure Dragon Gang to worry about.

She’d noticed Pei had taken a couple of days off from work to do…something…as well.

Whichever the case, the two phoenix ladies looked like they were having a lot of fun with their ‘quiet’ game. Enemies they might be in the future, but that was for the future to decide. Or their kings. For the most part, Meirin lived in the present and, at the present, she was very, very bored.

A loud sigh erupted from Timothy once again as he had to reach over and grab his phone. "What is it this time," Timothy grumbled. He held the phone between his head and shoulder while his fingers operated on the keyboard. Timothy was busy going through the cameras of Lab Icarus. They were stationed everywhere from the lab grounds. From the woods to the inside of the lab itself. This told a lot to Timothy, seeing that the dragons came in undetected despite there being eyes everywhere.

"Timothy, tell Aristotle to sing. We need some time."

Timothy looked over to Aristotle. Aristotle nodded and grabbed his throat spray. "Aristotle's on it. Hubert is currently airborne, and he's going to land soon. Ahri's coming around to assist Bash." One of the screens showed the number of occupants in each room. While he couldn't tell who was in each room, the security footage helped him determine the people. As far as he could tell, an unknown assailant was inside, and a few were outside the warehouse.

There was also a truck that barged out of the parking lot. They would need to deal with the fucker who did that.

Aristotle sprayed his throat and coughed up a little. He thumped his chest. "With so many leaves, the sun waves good day. With so many standards shines, shines the sky..." Aristotle took a deep breath and took the microphone. There was a particular rhyme to every movement before Aristotle opened his mouth.

"▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅"

A loud bellow came out of the speakers throughout the lab. Everyone heard the strange sound from the lab to the trees unleashed from the speaker phones. At first, nothing seemed to happen until...

All the vehicles on the lab grounds suddenly started moving. They rose with their newly found legs and loomed over any human around the area. The freshly animated trucks remained motionless until they weren't.

The vehicles in the parking lot 'looked' down at the dragons. They raised their hands and tried to swipe them with their newly formed arms. The matter did not help as the truck from the loading bay barged through the garage doors and barreled itself towards the parking. It was on fire and being hit by Schroder's bombardment.

"C'mon Aristotle, couldn't you have animated the debris too while you were at it?"

If Timothy was looking for a response, he did not receive it as Aristotle was busy trying to dump the entire spray bottle down his throat.

He crashed into one of the animated trucks which killed him. Because of his death, the bomb soon triggered as well.

Boom

A massive explosion bursted forth from the forest. The forest was a lit to flames by the impact. Several trees were knocked down from the sheer power it had behind it.

“Shut up already,” Markus hissed toothlessly. He'd long since given up on quelling the spectral Tiger's constant stream of innane babbling.

You shut up, nasty man-thing!” The floating Albino Tiger retorted before blowing a raspberry in the Tiger King's face. Markus recoiled instinctively away from the Tiger-that-no-one-else-could see before he quickly glanced around to check if anyone was watching him. To an outside observer, he looked paranoid, shifty-eyed, and anonymous.

He'd donned a hat and medical mask before setting out from the West today—early, and without notifying any of his fellow Tigers as to his destination—and had been skulking about Central like some two-bit thug with an imaginary friend.

It was humilitating enough as it was. The fact that Markus himself was not positive as to the reason for his being here was merely icing on the shit-cake that had been his life these past several months. If he'd known then what he knew now—“Yo, Mark! I'm gettin' hung'y he'ah”—he'd have left that claw with the birdbrains who'd stolen it.

Through clenched teeth he responded in a quiet voice—worse still if people noticed him actually speaking to himself—“First of all, y'don't eat, Markus paused, refusing to look Tiger in the eye, though he could feel the little creature's withering gaze in his periphery. Let 'im glare, he thought. His patience for this clown show was nearly at an end. Markus trudged along, hands jammed into pants' pockets, head low, the brim of his hat shielding his eyes from the harsh sun above. He kept his head down, kept walking, even as more words came to him, grateful for the mask that hid the sight of his lips moving behind its fabric, “N' second of all, I ain't doin' one more goddamn thing 'til ya' tell me right now what the fuck we're even doin' he—

“HALLLLLLT!”

The suddenness of it made him grind his heels into the pavement. A fellow pedestrian nearly walked into him, managing to escape with only a rough check against his shoulder and a harsh look back at him as she passed. Markus brushed it off. “What the fuc— He began, only to be interrupted once more by the Tiger directing his attention to the sight of a group of freaks idling behind a large-windowed ice cream parlor that opened up to him from across the street.

At first Markus didn't recognize who they were.

Then it hit him like a truck, along with an understanding of why Tiger had dragged him here today of all days.

His eyes stared unblinking at the newly-crowned Serpent King... Eating ice-cream... Flanked by a trio of freaks. As he sized the barbershop quarter of snakes up, Markus exhaled a silent, exasperated “Sonovabitch...

SECURING THE FUTURE
Noticing a certain level of distress about Sophia, try as she might to hide it, Chikage tucked his chin and looked to the side.

He was growing curious.

Something was bothering her and, had it been fear that he sensed, he would have addressed it sooner, but it was not, so he left it alone. He was here on business—behind the backs of his superiors, no less. Getting involved in the personal affairs of the Albrechts could potentially clutter his judgment in the face of the offer to be made… An offer about which he was still in the dark.

Finally, Sophia spoke. She motioned her head toward a set of double doors, at which point someone passed through them and Chikage noticed a particularly distinguished character clothed in white, also white of hair and beard, and the Captain’s eyebrows furrowed. With scrutiny, he watched the man, counting the swings of the door.

To his surprise, Sophia bolted from her seat and threw open the doors once more before their momentum died, and she threw herself to the man who, in turn, embraced her, catching her tears as she sobbed.

For the duration of their reunion, Sophia’s and Lars’, Chikage turned his gaze to the floor at his feet and twiddled his thumbs in his lap. Then, when silence fell, and Sophia was gone, he felt eyes on him, which toyed with his nerves.

The incoming whir of propellers provoked visible agitation upon his face. He stood up, stance neutral, but the hand that reached for the pouch of titanium marbles on his hip denounced confidence. Ruby-reds shifted cautiously; they deliberated the best course of action for battle… but Lars’ words ran counter to the Captain’s discernment.

Lars sat and spoke, but Chikage waited to relax.

“I, Lars Albrecht, am the one you'll be making a deal with.” These words—Chikage’s head tilted. He faced down with an open smile, tongue touching his upper lip, and exhaled smug amusement.

“Fucking bold,” he said under his breath; a shake of the head as his eyes went up and rolled. Since Sophia’s absence, his attitude changed. Whether or not Lars caught the quip, it went without acknowledgement, and the company head carried on his speech.

“And as you know full well, some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.”

Chikage dropped back into his seat and sank in. He adopted a wide-legged power-pose, arms splayed and hanging over the armrests, and wore a condescending smirk as naturally as he wore a badge.

“The first step to this goal is to unite my company with your police force. Your faith in us, for our technology and limitless supplies.”

Chikage’s expression fell serious. His eyes moved toward the tray that arrived from the back at the wave of the other man’s hand, and they watched as it poured two glasses of drink, one for each of them.

“Do you drink?”

Chikage held Lars’ eyes. “I will.” He drank often, sometimes nights in a row, but didn’t feel compelled to discuss it. Sitting up, the Captain reached for and took his glass, stared down into the liquid as it rippled from motion, swirled it, then lifted the cold rim to his lips and let the biting liquid coat his tongue.

A satisfied exhale, then he licked his lips and sat back again, resting the drink on his leg within the grip of a hand, a thumb rubbing up and down the slick surface of the glass. The wristwatch on his left monitored his blood pressure and heart rate, which had risen since Lars’ entrance.

After a long silence and another sip, Chikage said, “So… Albrecht Industries with the Central Police Force… The same Albrecht Industries that cavorts with Dragons, yes?...” Red eyes went up from the glass in his lap, then, “You do understand the weight of this request?... My reputation evidently does not precede me.”

Chikage looked to the drones, then back at Lars. “Do you mean to intimidate me into accepting, Albrecht?” Shiny whites bared wide in a smile meant to challenge, “HAH!” Then a scowl and, once again, the Captain was watching condensation run down his glass, which he continued to smear in circles with a thumb. “Don’t get to the fucking point with me, asshole. I want you on your toes, treading on needles before you lay out your demands. My quest for a better city is not yours!- Surely while you were gone, pleasing your mistress or whatever have you- the press didn’t run out of fucking stories- you’ve heard! The Dragon’s haven’t exactly been quiet!” Chikage was standing now, drink to the side, with both hands on the table in front of him.

Despite what he was saying, Lars’ offer had not gone without piquing interest. The calm and calculated side of the Captain was at work on the inside, pondering and weighing the benefits of such an alliance. It was the anger and spite that he couldn’t control. His wristwatch beeped once, blood pressure rising, as was his chest with every shaky inhale.

The chain snapped away, and she was free.

The Takaonna vanished into the massive pallet shelves like a spider into a crack, and there was silence; save for the clash of Serpents against the mysterious forces of the warehouse echoing in the distance. She needed to get there. It was just across however many shelves there were. However, it took longer than she would have liked to even get around. She faced encounter after encounter of fodder; people who stood no chance against her, yet attacked all the same. It was an annoyance more than anything as she scaled and climbed what seemed like a labyrinth of twists and turns in every direction.

In her grasp was the mangled body of one of the warehouse's defenders. She felt it twitch; she didn't want to let go in case he were still alive.

She wound up near the top of a pallet shelf, squeezing her body through a large crate that nearly pressed against the shelf above. Though she slid through with ease, the same could not be said for the person she held. As he became stuck on the other side, the Takaonna's patience grew thin. In one final attempt, she pulled with all her might, yelling as she threw herself over into the next aisle.

Loud, crunching metal. A sound akin to a collapsing building. The shelf that Takaonna manuevered in had tilted—and fell. It crashed into the adjacent shelf, then the next one, and the next one.

On the very shelf he stood on that overlooked the battle, Romero stopped writing mid-sentence, turning around. "What is that noise? I cannot focus like—" His shelf was last in the domino line. Romero felt his feet lift into the air, then contact with the falling debris. Under the weight of the other pallet shelves and being last in line, this one fell harsher and flat on the ground.

In the path of its fall was the Chessmaster and her pawns, alongside whoever else was near her. Clouds of dust kicked up around the shelf, bringing about a momentary silence.

At the same time, the moment Romero stopped writing, the Monster did as well. The monumentous strength it resisted Sabrina with suddenly gave way, and its hind leg fell to a knee just short of Kisara. Electricity from the wire coursed visibily through the body, though it appeared unaffected. Kisara's strike on its paw landed, bringing its height a tad lower. The breath of raw energy tore through the Monster's arm, sending bits of black flesh everywhere.

The Monster of the West... Romero coughed, would not let up so easily. With insurmountable strength, it whipped its good hind leg forward, yanking the foolish assailant towards itself. Another head formed around its neck, emerging from the blackness with an opening maw to snatch her out of the air. And if she happened to fall short, she'd be horrified to realize the other head's neck extend towards it like a coil...

As for the rivaling monster, she foolishly went toe-to-toe with it; a sure death sentence. Its main head twisted outward, staring down the girl of pink. The black, mud-like sludge welled around the Beast. With one instantaneous snap, the Monster bit down on her with its powerful skeletal jaw.

Where Giants Sleep
Before Isobel could fully consider what their next steps would be, Kenji disappeared into the dark abyss without so much as a word. The hole was a lot deeper than she initially thought and by the time they heard the thump of the man's landing, his grey mop of hair was barely visible from above. If she had to guess, it was a 6-meters drop give or take.

Wren went next, leaving Ezra, Elias, Passeri, and Isobel standing around the statue. Taking the sheet of paper from Ezra, she raised an eyebrow at his choice of words. "Yell?" She signed as a hint of a smirk appeared at the corner of her mouth. Despite the teasing, she folded up the sheet and tucked it neatly into her jeans pocket. By now, she was more than familiar with Ezra's potentiality and while the thought of being pulled again was enough to get her stomach churning, she had to admit that it was a highly effective escape plan. With a nod, she hopped off the edge, landing lightly on her feet at the bottom, knees bent to absorb the impact. Stepping forward to clear the way for the three remaining, she took the time to study the path before them.

Worryingly, Kenji had already gone ahead without waiting for the rest. Despite his languorous demeanor earlier, the man now seemed... rejuvenated. Maybe the heat above was getting to him. Her source of comfort came from the fact that Wren had made it a point to keep on his tail the entire time and her own potentiality allowed her to track everyone's position so long as they didn't fall outside her range. If all else failed, she trusted Ezra would be able to retrieve them as needed.

What little light that managed to make it's way down here clutched on to the floating specks of dust, illuminating them like thousands of tiny fireflies. But ahead, there was nothing but an echo and stagnation. There was no light, no movement of air, no warmth. Isobel held out her hand like a child foolishly expecting affection and was only met with disappointment. Once everyone had dropped down safely, she took the lead, following the direction of Kenji and Wren's pull. Whatever light they had at the entrance quickly faded away leaving them to rely on her phone's torch. It didn't take long before they encountered their first fork, bringing the Jack to a stop.

Holding up a hand with two fingers up, she pointed to the tunnel on the left to indicate the path their two enthusiastic cave explorers had taken. "I think we should split up. We'll cover more ground this way." She signed. Looking to Ezra she continued "I can go after Wren and Kenji. You should stick with the other two. I know you the best so it'll be easier for me to keep track of you."

Peacock stopped her wave of feathers after the first volley of wind shielded the two. She kept a constant whistle, maintaining her and feathers' positions as the wind died down. Curiously, they found it in themselves to talk. One complimented her wings and offered fun facts (if she heard through the accent correctly), and the other offered a coercive threat for peace.

She could not help but laugh, though the feathers faltered a bit as a result.

They seemed like fun; might as well play along. Peacock's whistles lowered in volume and pitch, and so did her elevation. Her wings fell apart; the feathers detached, only to fly underneath her as a floating platform. She grabbed her legs together in a seated crossing position. As her voice became quieter, she lowered herself until she reached the ground. Then Peacock finally quieted.

"Let us talk, then." The remnant feathers in the air ceased movement, fluttering to the ground. "I am sorry for attacking you—you who burst into our home, killing our people before we could even react, and destroying everything in sight." As the pallet shelf crashed to the floor, sending a blast of wind that billowed her hair, she remained mostly unfazed as she spoke. "Will you please take your friends and leave?" Resting her head on her hands, she added one more condition. "Also, because I found it cute, what fun fact did you have in mind to tell me?"

The alarms blared to life, and that was her cue. As the crowd trickled out of the glass doors, she wove her way through them and entered the building. She hummed a tune as she glided past the civilians in her red dress, unconcerned with her own radiance. Her golden hair glimmered in the sun and fell down her shoulders like fine silk, and her pretty face lit aglow with the warm rays of the afternoon sun. It was a beautiful day for a property tour.

The outfit she wore drew attention instead of helping her blend in with the masses—but who would want to blend in anyway? The woman scoffed at the idea of being overlooked, and she rolled her eyes. She was clad in a red dress that hugged her hourglass figure, a black tweed coat of the finest quality, high-heeled leather boots, and black sunglasses that concealed her striking crimson irises. She looked like a model that had walked out of a magazine cover.

When she made it inside the building, she lowered her shades and took in the insipid interior like a posh-looking tourist who was out to do some sightseeing, but before she could take another step further in, a policeman grabbed her by the arm.

"Miss, you're not supposed to be here!"

The plump man gently pulled on her arm, coaxing her to exit, and she looked at the hand that held her arm with slight revulsion. She pulled away and broke free from his grasp, her eyes narrowing into slits.

"And you're not supposed to be awake."

"Wha–"

The cop opened his mouth to speak, but sleep overtook him in an instant. His eyes rolled back in his head, and he fell to the ground with a painful thud. A lone butterfly perched on his cheek. "Sweet dreams for now, officer." The woman smiled sweetly and went on her merry way.

Around the property, a kaleidoscope of butterflies in various colors harmlessly fluttered about. They quietly perched on walls, furniture, plants, and the vehicles parked right outside the building. They dispersed and surrounded the area, watching, listening, and waiting. She had them right where she wanted.

With eyes and ears everywhere, she was ready to report and assist whenever she needed to, or rather, whenever she wanted to. At the moment, she was busy strolling the hallways and taking mental notes on what she liked and didn't like. For example, the walls were a tacky shade of flat white and fresco cream. If it were up to her, she would paint the walls in pool blue and light french gray. The artworks that hung on the walls were also a little outdated for her refined tastes. Some abstract pieces and contemporary paintings would do well to spruce up the area and make it more modern and chic. How lovely that would be.

As the woman leisurely toured the property, she was all the while aware of the predicament the other Phoenixes have found themselves in. A purple butterfly was perched on the doorframe where Riot was battling a long-haired detective, with a bleeding Dynamik on the side. A crimson butterfly sat on top of a crystal shard where Red Rabbit was engaged with an off-duty cop. A blue butterfly fluttered around Blitz as he was confronted by a… wimpy officer. Several butterflies also perched themselves on the great stone wall that had been erected by a handsome blonde officer, preventing their escape.

The butterflies only sat idly.

It was only after a single butterfly made it to the break room that the young woman suddenly came to a halt. The happy expression she wore on her face faded, replaced by something else. She stood eerily quiet and still as different images of the property rapidly shifted through her mind like a flipbook. She searched for something, and she balled her fists when she couldn't find what she was looking for. Her eyes narrowed impatiently, eyebrows knitting together.

"Who's in control of those ugly black butterflies?"

The woman was vexed at the prospect that there was someone else with a similar potential nearby, and worse, she couldn't find them and crush them. A sinister look flashed in her crimson eyes.

There could only be one butterfly monarch, and that was her, Callista Reinhart.

The two men collapsed and Ottilie stopped screaming. Did she do that? Could she do that? Looking down at her hands with shock she questioned whether her potentiality had somehow evolved beyond her knowledge and comprehension. Genetic variations were not something new. Mutations happened all the time even with potentials. It was most commonly observed during genetic recombination which is evidenced in the passing of potentiality down family lines. However, it was rare to hear of its occurrance within the same HP at a later stage in life. Off the top of her head, she hypothesized that it may be the work of a genetic disease such as Huntington disease in which signs and symptoms only appear later in life. While unheard of, it was not impossible. Did she just make a new discovery? How would this affect her ongoing research? How would - Her thoughts came to an abrupt stop as she spotted one of Hiram's drones in the distance.

"Ah." Clearing her throat, the girl stepped forward and knelt by the two unconscious bodies, pressing a ear to one of their chests. The steady rhythm, while slow and faint, was all she needed to hear. "They're alive." She said. Then, almost as an afterthought she added on loudly enough for the nosy onlookers to hear, "Boy, that snake really came out of nowhere!" The circle of people around them immediately started to disperse with some frantically looking around for said reptile. "We should probably go get some help from that resort over there, yes?"

Opening her backpack, she gently scooped the tiny fox off the too warm asphalt and lowered it inside. "Sorry about this, it's probably safer for you to stay out of sight for now." Leaving a gap wide enough for the creature to stick it's head out if it wanted to, she hoisted her bag onto her back then turned to her compatriats. "I think it's time we leave. Hiram, perhaps you would like to reclaim your darts from their bodies before we do."

Not wanting to stick around much longer, Ottilie began taking long strides in the direction of the Zhànzhēng Resort occasionally grabbing hold of a passerby or two to warn them of the very dangerous and poisonous snake in the area.

Heist

Jennifer wasn't the biggest fan of this plan. Running guns, the odd assassination, intimidation and bribing were all rather run-of-the-mill. Robbing a bank with, undoubtedly, close ties to many members of the gang though. Well, one must bite the hand that feeds. This all smelled rotten to Jennifer, a bonfire laced with oil and just awaiting a spark to light it. Of course, it was important to put down those who were acting up, and Ryu as the queen had every right to do so but this? This was really the approach he wanted to take? It was flashy, fit the queen's MO, but for Jennifer, this whole thing was far too sudden and carried with it far too much room for the dominos to fall thereafter. Markus was right to have his doubts. In fact, Jennifer was all but ready to leave when Ryu moved to explain the weaponry that would be used for the operation in question.

Having been presented with a small black case as well as a demonstration of the weapon, Jennifer's expression went blank. Internal rage seething and boiling. A .50 calibre hand cannon with integrated suppression technology was not something that was easy to produce let alone get one's hands on. Moving to open her own box in silence, Jennifer took the weapon to her hand, inspecting it closely. Her free hand roamed the weapon slowly, carefully, taking in every groove and notch with deliberate intent. Her hand moved almost erotically but clearly without such intent. Releasing the magazine with effortless ease, Jennifer then juggled the item with her free hand before returning it to the case alone. As the conversation went on so too did Jennifer's inspection.

Pulling back the barrel, Jennifer examined the chamber before releasing it again. Then finally she turned the weapon on the case, flipped the safety off and let the click of the now-primed hammer ring out. Having now finished with her inspection Jennifer re-slotted the magazine and returned the weapon to the case, sealing it then. The woman's expression remained blank and she returned to her drink but if anything was going to give away her current enraged position it was her grip on the glass. Gripping it tightly, Jennifer downed her whiskey before moving to stand. The woman made her way across the room to the desk upon which the drinks were stored and then proceeded to return to her chair with the entire bottle in hand.

Sipping at her refilled glass Jennifer watched as a plethora of masks were brought out. When asked to pick one she was quick to pick, practically at random. Snatching it and laying it atop her case without a word. Just about ready to explode if given the chance.

"Non-hostile, huh?" She repeated Jack's observation dumbly. She didn't get the same feeling as he did. She readied her rifle again, this time, making sure her aim was on point, placing the bead straight on the male figure's head. She could do it now. She could just finish this, call it a day, and go home. She touched the trigger, and held her breath.

Then exhaled with a disgusted sigh. She pulled her finger away from the trigger, and set to disassembling the gun. She was here to find answers, and take out a specific target. Plugging some random civvie straight in the brain box was highly unprofessional. That would be the Phoenix's kind of deal. She might as well join the damn cowboy down there and scout things out, then put one in...whoever's head it was that needed one to be put in. Picking out the firing pin from its parts, she shoved the small piece of metal in her pocket, and straightened up. She unholstered her handgun, racked the slide back a little, checked the safety, then shoved it into the holster behind her back. As Jack motioned to join him on his silver disc, she glanced his way, and gave him a dismissive wave, as if to tell him to wait for a second. She rummaged around in the duffel bag she had brought with her, and fished out a pair of unidentifiable canisters. With the same amount of reverence she showed her handgun, she shoved them, too, into a pouch on her belt. She patted the knife at her side, then, finally, took Jack's hand. "A gentleman Ковбой. Who'd have thought?" she muttered, half-sardonically.

"Let's go."

Thicker Than Water

Steadily the voltage climbed, but either the creature and its rider were impervious to electricity or she wasn’t giving it enough juice because the currents coursing through them didn’t seem to slow them down in the least; Not even a roar of pain. Teeth clenched, Sabrina maintained a vice-like grip on the sword she’d driven to the ground while her other arm continued to pull. A series of crashes sounded. Just when she thought the wire would snap, the monster seemed to stop, its monstrous strength giving out. Surprised, Sabrina’s eyes flickered over to a large mess where rows and rows of shelves crashed like dominoes. Beneath one of them Romero lay, bloodied, but still persisted in writing? Before she could contemplate the situation, Sabrina found herself tossed in the air, sailing towards the dark, gaping maw that formed on the back of the monster’s neck.

Or, at least, she would be if she didn’t simply stop herself in midair.

Gliding away from the neck that threatened to coil around her, Sabrina raised the blade she still had in her grip and cut the wire. She could get the ring repaired later. In a blink, Sabrina’s hair once more stood on end as radiant, visible electricity coiled around her like a lover. Evasively maneuvering around the neck that continued to stretch after her, as well as any other whipping tentacles that tried to do the same, the smaller human (potentialis) circled round and round until the elongated body part knotted itself.

Another blink and she stood high above the beast whose main head battled Kisara McDowell.

Then, like a bolt of lightning, she dove downward, slicing straight through the knotted neck. Gravity, as well as the speed in which she moved, added to her strength. Landing in crouch on the creature’s back, Sabrina stood, a single flick of her sword wielding wrist to remove the flecks of black blood that stained the blade. It wasn’t her weapon, after all.

Picking up the skull head she’d just cleaved off like a trophy, Sabrina faced the ‘undead’, blindfolded tattoo-user. “Last chance. What the fuck is this place and where did you put Shaw–?”

"OI! ANY OF YOU THAT AREN'T DEAD FINISH YOUR SHIT AND FOLLOW ME DOWN HERE."

Sabrina sighed. “Nevermind.”

Tossing up the head of the blindfolded freak’s beloved ‘pet’, Sabrina kicked it toward the ‘undead’ before lifting herself up with the magnetic field she generated around herself and blitzing off. Finish things? She knew exactly how to finish things. Stopping in front of the fallen, partially crushed Romero, Sabrina stomped hard, on the writer’s hand. The monster would continue to rampage so long as the story-telling freak continued writing. And, if the monster continued to rampage, the ‘rescue’ mission would cost the Sable Serpents more than the Queen’s beloved ‘brother’ was worth. Heck, it already had.

Sabrina didn’t know if she was in time to stop Prinz from being digested.

Dragging the already injured body out from under the shelf, Sabrina pressed Kyoden’s blade to Romero’s neck as she stalked down the bloody path Snake left towards a tall, black corridor. A confused-looking man with a gas-mask blocked her path. “Move.”

If he didn’t, she’d slit Romero’s throat then make him move. Personally, she had no desire to go down the ominous-looking corridor. Survival instincts bade her not to. Living in the North District, especially as an NP, one grew up with them. Listened to them. However, Sabrina was no longer an NP. She didn’t like to live caged. She didn’t like to see others caged (part of the reason tattoo-man pissed her off so much). She also had a sword to return.

Where Giants Sleep

Ezra had offered to go first, but it was Kenji that jumped down first and Wren that followed, Elias noted with amusement. Taking the piece of paper Ezra offered curiously, the young CFO of Yumin Entertainment contemplated how it might be used in the case of an emergency. He knew of Z’s potential. The youngest Knight could restore things to their original state–or something of the like. In that case, if Silas’s son were to restore the torn paper in his hand, then it would make sense to assume all the torn pieces he passed around would try to reconnect themselves…but how? Would they teleport? Fly? And which piece would they all reconnect to? Elias assumed Ezra’s…which would help them meet up again, he supposed…though it wouldn’t work if they were physically trapped…like in the case of a cave-in.

And, as Mouse signed, two of their members couldn’t yell…though in Shackle’s case, it was more of a choice than an inability.

Essentially not a foolproof escape plan, but a plan nonetheless, so Elias replied with a smile and a “Thanks” before slipping the torn sheet into his overcoat. Still holding onto a bag of ‘goodies’ he’d purchased in the plaza, Elias jumped down the hole after Isobel. Light was provided by their phones and Passeri’s potential as they traverse the mine interior, following the Jack of the Albino Tiger Gang…who was following her locator sense of Wren and Kenji? Elias didn’t actually know. He simply took note of his surroundings so that, should it be necessary, he could review his memories and go back exactly the way he came.

Then they reached a fork.

Elias watched Isobel sign her instructions, reading the non-verbal language with ease due to the memories he’d acquired prior to the “reconnaissance” task. He shrugged, indicating his lack of care on whether they split up or how they split up, but… “If all it takes is knowing me to make me easier to track, I’ll be happy to tell you about myself, Miss Mouse. I don’t want to get lost if we split up, after all.”

Smiling innocently as he approached the Jack of the Albino Tiger gang, Elias signed the rest. It’ll be quick. Just like when I showed you the claw.

Taking her hands in his, Elias shared with Isobel the memories he didn’t mind sharing: A random memory of him choosing coffee or tea in his company’s breakroom (he chose coffee), a childhood memory of him doing math homework, his chat with Genevieve Delacroix, his blind date with a daughter of one of his father's business friends, etc. Non-important, mundane, memories that would let her get to know him a little better. As he planted them in her mind, he also, subtly, took a peek at her own memories–more specifically the times where she explored a certain Tiger archive. Watching her read the diary of one Roland Dreyer, the former Tiger King that Markus Weiss killed via poison, Elias had a better idea of why Isobel wanted Heavenly Beast Plaza explored and what she was looking for. In short, she had no actual idea–only that it was somehow connected to Dreyer, strange forces, and magical totems that gave the Kings their power.

Was the Tiger Claw a totem?

Was that why Markus Weiss seemed to be going crazy? Elias had assumed the gang leader’s immoral past had simply caught up with him.

“There,” Elias said as he finished giving her the memories and took a step back. A trade for a trade…even if the transaction itself couldn’t exactly be called willing. "Hopefully you'll have an easier time trusting me now that you know more about me~"

And the way his potential could be used for quick, non-verbal communication.

He strolled towards the right tunnel entrance and waited for Passeri and Ezra to join him--assuming they agreed with the Jack's decision that is. It made sense for Isobel to go after Kenji and Wren seeing as she was the only one that could locate them. That said, it didn't particularly matter to him which tunnel he took. He now had a better idea of what the Jack was looking for…though he still had no idea what she intended to do if she found it. Whatever 'it' might be. His potential let him view memories, not read the mind–unless the feelings involved in the memories were especially intense. All he got from watching Isobel’s memories had been a vague sense of curiosity; Franky, he didn’t think she planned anything at all. “ I’ll text you guys if I find anything important.”

Assuming phones worked deeper in the mine that is.

"Ah." Eep. A solitary, sad peep escaped Elizabeth's lips. Tragedy. Try as she might've, she'd been caught by her predator. She was a deer, and Flo was a Lion, ready to pounce. That was what her instincts were telling her. That she'd trespassed out of her depth, and now a foreign superpredator was going to devour her.

What was that? She was talking instead? Not bearing her fangs, not roaring in bloodlust?

Well, she'd be damned.

"O-oh." Her senses, or specifically her common ones, had started to return, but she was still having a hard time rebooting. The adrenaline in her veins was still fresh and hot, desperately screaming to be directed in some direction, but there was no bearing towards which she could chart it. She felt like she should've apologized, but to who? Her adrenal glands? She might've looked like a lunatic after screaming and running like that, but that didn't mean that she actually was one.

"Sure..." Her ability to speak had now, at long last, returned to her, but each word was still a struggle. "I d-don't. Want it, I mean! No biting, please, I'm not tasty." Elizabeth recalled how convinced her instincts had been that she was about to be devoured, and shuddered. With how much cortisol was in her blood, there was no way that she'd ever make for a nice meal. She was seasoned and brined, like a nice cut of chicken, except the brine was cold sweat and the seasoning was dried tears.

"The um- The room was just another hallway inside. And it moved as soon as I closed the door. Is that helpful?" Probably not. She still felt on edge. Flo aside, she had no idea who these other two were, aside from them being in the top five. That meant that they could be dangerous. If not to her physical health, then her mental health instead. "I um- I can be a guinea pig for you? If you want? J-just don't hit me, please."

She eyed Flo, Gav and then Milo awkwardly for a moment, and then spoke again.

"Pretty please. I'm- I'm really squishy."

amari accepted sophie's offer gratefully and opened the bottle. she took a rather large swig, closing it as she swallowed the bitter liquid, and handed it back to her co-worker. she paused for a moment, however, resting her fingertips lightly on soph's arm, “i know we're jus' questionin' people, but stay safe, yeah?" amari's features softened as she met the taller woman's gaze, a small smile on her lips, before quickly reverting to her usual hardened expression, “we'll see ya soon."

honestly, amari didn't want to leave sophie to investigate on her own, but they knew better than to let their feelings cloud their judgment. they needed to cover ground, and splitting up was the way to do it. just as amari had turned towards jesper, they had second thoughts and whirled back around, gently grasping one of sophie's hands, “anythin' happens, ya message me right away," amari's voice came out a bit more harsh than intended and they had to take a breath before continuing, “forreal, if ya run into any trouble let me know and i'll be there ta help ya as fast as i can."

amari gave sophie's hand a squeeze, holding it for a bit longer than she probably should have; realizing what she was doing, she let go and turned to follow jesper, but not before glancing over her shoulder to get one more look at soph.

upon entering the cafe, amari was immediately bombarded with a sickeningly strong floral scent, among other smells. the calm atmosphere did nothing to help her nerves as she dug her nails into her palms, if anything it only made her feel worse. amari turned her focus to jesper as he started whispering something to her as they walked past a woman, judge sandra blanc, and her three zombie pets or whatever the fuck they were. listening intently, she made a mental note to question sandra after they spoke with ariadne.

amari started to open her mouth to respond but before she could get a word out they were interrupted. snapping her jaws shut, a scowl formed as amari turned herself in the direction the voice came from, her gaze landing on a woman with dark hair. ariadne. crossing her arms over her chest and narrowing her eyes, the angry expression amari wore remained unchanged the entire time ariadne and jesper spoke, her gaze hardly leaving the woman.

taking a step closer to ariadne, amari sniffed the air and caught a whiff of the same poison she had smelled on the corpse. she would have said something, but as the conversation continued and ariadne explained herself it became clear that this would not be a quick investigation. two bottles of the poison sold and given to the buyers, one vial stolen- that meant more running around and questioning people. what fun.

“we're gonna hafta talk to both o' the people that bought the poison... an' figure out who stole the third..." amari muttered this under her breath, letting out a sigh. at the very least ariadne had offered the services of her info network which could be helpful. that or it could make things more complicated, but they had very little to go off of at the moment; it would be stupid to pass up an offer like this.

Noa was a bit unnerved when the civilian NP started to grow worried with panic, she wasn't exactly fond of getting NPs overwhelmed, and the woman seemed unnerved from the possibility. Noa took a step back in order to let the woman recollect herself, and finally calm down, while she threw a quizzical look towards Raymond, the possibility of a person who can copy the appearance of someone was low, never 0 but low. She didn't really consider it to be honest though, all things were possible she supposed, Suzu was more intent on whatever search history Hitoshi had, perhaps it would be useful, maybe not. She was pretty novice when it came to investigations after all, and her best bet was to rely on her bodyguard, who had coincidentally refused to be 5 feet away from her, and was more focused on the others within the room than investigating. Which was fair to be honest, after all their job was primary to protect them, not investigate a missing Phoenix. With a sigh, Noa looked around the room and continued to listen to the their conversation Ryoma had with the NP lady, though she quickly tuned in and faced him when he gave his analysis on what he though had happened. There were a lot of things that he could of been looked for, but if there were a pile of receipts perhaps he was planning to return something. She couldn't help but ask "Has Hitoshi been having any financial issues or anything like that?"

Ryomas next question on their voicemail made Noa shrug a bit, before she spoke "Pretty sure we all did." what you want us to replay the message or anything? She really hadn't gave the message much thought as it was too jumbled up to be of much use, and trying to understand it mostly just lead to frustration at how unclear it was. It wasn't until Rymon asked for someone to investigate outside, that Noa gave a shrug and left to go take a look outside giving them a wave and saying "Ok, i guess, I'll go." her bodyguard followed right behind her as she left out the front entrance, and moved herself to the Back alleyway just as instructed, they doubted that there would be any leaving evidence but she supposed anything was possible, especially if they were lucky.

WHOLE WORLD BLIND
Yukito felt two hands rest firmly on his shoulders with the weight of Raquel (Gourmet) following as she leaned in, instinctively he glanced back behind him with hints of surprise and annoyance. Between her own words and the wizard's, he was aware that a substantial number of Phoenixes, Hell, even in the other gangs, had members with some screws loose. It had never been a far fetched idea. He had thought about that probability when he considered joining, but he figured he was a little crazy too if he was willing to kill another person. That much he convinced himself. The laughter from his partner was unnerving and over the top for him. Maybe he'd make a sound board one day and mess with him, but that would require an unnecessary amount of effort.

As Spellbinder responded, it was proved to be more questionable that he could communicate with. Yukito would just have to make do, take it as a challenge, Hide wasn't going to be the only one who couldn't speak sensibly. But damn it was going to be frustrating. What was more questionable, was the 'wizard's' potential and suddenly Gourmet's and Pharaohs chides made so much more sense. The waves of scenarios of what could go wrong extending in the back of his brain. Even he could not manage to stifle a plain, irritated “...Great.” Yukito had ideas of other ways this could all be oriented but he boxed them up, he wasn't in charge, he was far from it. At the moment when Hide touch his nose with his finger, the four foot gremlin nearly growled, but he used that energy to swat the other's hand away. “Yeah, just keep your shit together.” Yukito made a mental note to watch him, maybe if he needed to he would freeze him if he lost control. It wouldn't be beneficial if someone took Spellbinder down because he lost his wits driving too many mad.

Pluto (Yukito) also kept a note of Zach's advice. Having multiple appearances shouldn't be an issue, unless they could also change into one of them. Yukito acknowledged that information with a curt nod as Hector (Pharoah) spoke. At the Queen's directions Yukito was left to assume he would meet Hide halfway between their own points of entry. It was smart to enter through multiple points instead of one, he could appreciate that obvious take and it gave him more confidence in their agenda. Yukito knew his stratagem even before he touched on it, his height was no soreless subject, but had it's advantages. He was this crew's real-life 'Among-Us: Imposter,' he could move through vents with hardly any trouble. He'd used it many times to get from point A to point B in a number of scenarios. It was just amusing now, how confidence between them bounced. By words alone it would make Hector sound like he wasn't sure they were going to prove themselves. While he could understand it, another verbal push, probably meaning to be supportive, started to grate his nerves. Are we meant to be vying for gold stars on a 101: How to Fuck Shit Up report card? He could understand wanting to be recognized, and he did, but he wasn't an adulator.

Yukito didn't know all that much about Charlie (Temperer) or his words. He'd only gleamed some notions of him. He could tell he meant well, by far the most 'normal' by society's standards in behavior, among the lot of them. His words of encouragement would garner equal civility, although, Yukito never committed to handshakes. It wasn't an abnormal practice, but his family and himself just didn't greet others like that, touchiness was another ordeal. No less normal, they bowed, or more informally, Yukito and his peers would fist bump and 'blow it up'. Between these two he chose the latter, but waited for Temperer expectantly to ball his fist before finishing the second bit.

At the end of that exchange, he was just about itching to start making way to their objective, “Ready.”

Delighted that the laptop hadn’t locked itself after her first five tries and that she actually managed to break in, she smugly lifted the laptop into the air and was about to turn around to showcase her achievement before her brain registered Ryoma’s question. She paused, still holding the device above her head, and tried to pull the remnants of the voicemail from her memories. Unfortunately, due to the fact she never bothered to remember inane things like someone else’s messages, she could only reply with a
“I don’t know.”

But she didn’t really care about Hitoshi’s voicemail anyway. She’d gotten into his laptop, and there was a highly suspicious karaoke bar in one of the tabs—a clear new lead! The location had a 80% chance of being one of the places that Hitoshi had visited last night out of all the locations that they already knew of. Bars had alcohol, and Hitoshi had been drunk. The dots were all connecting. Perhaps she could even find the man by the end of today, other issues notwithstanding.

It was then that she noticed Noa and her bodyguard had moved out from the room, likely to go to the back alley as Ryoma had instructed. Dropping the arms over her head, she wondered if she should’ve called them to wait so that she could inform them of her findings. Supposing that they were working together and not simply independently investigating the same case, principles stated that she would have to share intelligence. It was too late now though; she would have to notify them later.

“I figured out Hitoshi’s password. His tabs consisted of a karaoke bar called Hyperstar, digital billiards and a video sharing site.”
Flipping around the laptop so that it faced the duo remaining in the room, she poked the letters emblazoned across the screen that read “Hyperstar”.
“We should go to the bar. Bars have alcohol.”

She didn’t elaborate on her reasoning, assuming everyone else would understand. If they didn’t, she could always leave by herself—working together didn’t necessarily mean working in the same place.

TL;DR:
Suzu thinks Hyperstar sus and everyone should go there.

August’s arms lowered to his side, a subtle smirk upon his face that, paired with his tired eyes, painted him sly. The smirk turned smile, however, when Peyton followed along with his antics. His head hung not with disappointment, but amusement, and it shook before he gazed back up at their opponent and added to Peyton’s bit, “See- Lookie theh. We’re jus’ handin’ ‘em out-” Teal blues drifted toward the source of an eldritch moan that rolled through the warehouse. “-fuh… free…”

The animalistic creature of skeletal face and collar of writhing tentacles—spotting it, August’s lip curled, mouth slightly agape; a look of utter (annoyed) disbelief.

Following a thunderous roar, the thing charged for the Serpent Kisara, and August backhanded Peyton on the arm, asking, “Oi, did someone ask if this could get any worse?” Then, he pointed at himself. “Because.. uh, it wasn’-” A shake of the head, “It wasn’t me.” All of this to imply that someone had jinxed the happening of current events.

“Let us talk, then.”

With shifty eyes, August tried to refocus on Peacock; though, he couldn’t help the occasional glance about the battlefield. Closer to eye level, now, he noted her beauty but it meant nothing to him.

“I am sorry for attacking you,” she said. “You who burst into our home, killing our people before we could even react, and destroying everything in sight.”

Just then, August held up two hands in surrender and told her, “Ay… Don’ look at me. Ah haven’t killed anyone, yeh?” He had; he just didn’t know it. Two of the men who had been thrown in his earlier stunt—the cyclone that cleared the fog—had suffered multiple broken bones, one of whom quickly perished after his cranium shattered on impact with the wall. The other of whom had been flattened by flying debris as he screamed woe, ‘I cannot feel my legs’. A voice lost in the clamor of chaos.

“Dunno ‘bout him, though,” August nodded at Peyton beside him, then flinched when a nearby pallet shelf crashed to the floor behind Peacock and swept his hair back, baring his forehead. It appeared to be the last of many in a domino-like effect.

“Will you please take your friends and leave?” asked Peacock.

August flattened his lips, hands on his hips, and peered narrow-eyed at the ground.

“Also, because I found it cute, what fun fact did you have in mind to tell me?”

He looked back up, eyebrows raised. Having not prepared what he was going to say, his mind went to work searching his memory banks for something interesting to tell. “Uhhh- Did…” A quick glance at Peyton, he shrugged. “Didju know… thatuh… tha Cafrian Bush Elephant has a… gestation period of twenty-two-”

“OI! ANY OF YOU THAT AREN'T DEAD FINISH YOUR SHIT AND FOLLOW ME DOWN HERE.”

“...months…”

It seemed their quest was progressing. And if Peyton and August didn’t want to fall behind, they needed to wrap this up.

“And if ya loike 'at one, ah’ve got plenty more at’re bettah.” Following a wink, August’s hands clapped together in front of him, “But… Speakin’ of mah friends- Takin’ ‘em all an’ leavin’- ‘At’s a bit hard to do when ya’ve got one of’em locked away, innit?... Anyone ever taken somethin’ o’ yours that’chu haven’t wanted back?” He waited for an answer, but not long enough for Peacock to actually give one. “So, can ya really blame us for our intrusion?”

“We Serpents tend to take matters very puhsonally, yeh?” He spoke as if he had been a member for years. “How ‘bout we trade, hm?... You lot give us our mate back, an' we leave this place intact?... Or, we take’im back, an’ do the opposite. Eithah way, we get’im back.”

Letting his goggles fall from his wrist, August caught the strap in his fingers and brought them up. He wore them over his forehead, now, as he inquired, “Ah you even tha one to negotiate with? Where’s ya manager? Who runs ‘is place?”

NPC POST - THE CHESSMASTER

THICKER THAN WATER
The Knight, rising to its hind legs, swung its lance for the symbiote Serpent in an array of different patterns, each swing engendering more flame at the weapon’s tip. Though none of its attacks seemed to land, it was a majestic performance that Chester marveled at with unfiltered euphoria. Her recent falter of composure had quickly passed.

“YES! YES!!” she shouted with glee, hands above her head and fingers splayed.

She looked to Damien as tentacles scattered from his feet and raced for her precious piece. However, this only appeared to fuel her pleasure.

The tentacles were on her Knight like leeches, and the Knight writhed, fighting to rid itself of them to no avail.

Alas, when the tentacles had finished, her Knight was but a pile of icky flesh, bone, and metal that undulated and pulsated with the wriggling of Damien’s hungry appendages, everything coated in the inky black liquid that the tentacles had discharged in their assault.

Chester’s eyes locked with the Serpent man’s, a smile upon her lips.

Damien asked her, “What’s next?” and she laughed, threw her head back.

“MARVELOUS!!” she cheered. “YOU!... IT WILL BE YOU!”

Chester reached into her pouch and withdrew handfuls of pieces, letting some spill to the floor without breaking eye-contact with Damien, and she threw what of them were in her grasp in his direction. “DEFEAT THEM!!” One by one, the pieces erupted into their bizarre forms. “DEFEAT THEM ALL!” Her laughter continued, growing ever more psychotic.

Pawns, Knights, Bishops, and Rooks; they scattered the battlefield in pairs, save for the lone Knight whose companion piece was but a heap of bloody scraps and armor. At once, each chess piece that rose from nothing charged Damien with intent to maim. Lacerate. Mutilate… Except for two. The King and the Queen.

They stood on either side of Chester; made it a point to close any distance from her that had been there upon their summoning when a pallet shelf had suddenly descended upon her, which the King caught in one hand and easily tossed aside. Chester didn't flinch when the thing crashed onto the floor, but instead covered her face and squealed with excitement. Then, they watched... The King, he stood, legs apart, with both hands resting on the hilt of a massive sword what's tip found him support by carving into the ground. And the Queen, she hovered, levitated. Three swords, their handles grasped by disembodied hands, gravitated close.

CHESSMASTER/POST NOTES
— —THE CHESSMASTER'S POTENTIAL: [IF YOU KILL HER, YOU KILL THEM ALL] Chester, for short, has the ability to bring any standard chess piece to life, and these pieces will willingly do her bidding, as well as protect her at any cost. The pieces possess similar strength to HPs, if not slightly more due to their overall size, and some of the pieces, depending on their title, may display additional talents. She is limited to one Queen and King despite the other pieces being doubled.

— —PIECES REMAINING:
Pawns (12/16) - Pawns possess similar strength to that of the average HP and no additional talents. Easy to kill.
Knights (3/4) - Knights generate powerful heat and possess above average strength relevant to HPs. They are alarmingly fast. They may generate flames at the end of their lance. Easy to kill.
Bishops (4/4) - Bishops are four-armed and capable of launching fireballs. The gently glowing lamps in their possession may draw attention, distracting their enemies. Easy to kill if you can get close. They will try to keep a distance.
Rooks (4/4) - Rooks are massive, powerful, and wielding of flame like Knights and Bishops. While they are considerably slow, they are extremely durable. They may spray flame from their gauntlets in harsh jet-like surges.
Queen (1/1) - TBA
King (1/1) - TBA

— —POST RECAP: Chester sets her entire remaining arsenal upon Damien.

Where Giants Sleep
Snap. Snap.

As the others filed into the mine, some with caution and others with haste, Passeri hung back for a moment. Quietly and inconspicuously, she snapped a photo of the Dragon state first, and then the gaping, black abyss second.

'If you're looking for your Jack, try beneath the Heavenly Plaza. -P'

Scheduled: Three hours.

Attached: Two images.

Send.

Passeri took a few more moments before entering the mine, using her Potential to stash her burner phone within a nearby tree. She'd already set up one failsafe in the occurrence that this went south at home, but developing situations called for developing plans. For all her projections, spelunking was not something she'd foreseen, and she'd be damned if she was going to go crawling around in a cave with a bunch of Tigers without some sort of insurance.

"Wait up!" With her phone stowed away, Passeri made after the rest of the Tigers. There was a skip in her step, and enough sun in her voice to drown out whatever trace of duplicity she might have carried.

"Sorry, guys! One of my shoes was untied. I didn't wanna risk falling into a well or something." She fell in alongside the group neatly, matching pace with the furthest back of the pack. "Let me make it up to you guys! I've got juuust the ticket for this sort of thing."

With a snap of her fingers, the tunnel first sparked, and then ignited with pink. A crystal dangled in air for each of the Tigers, including those who had rushed offer. Along their path, too, a trail of faintly glimmering spheres had started to gather, an impromptu trail of breadcrumbs, in case of the event where they lost their way, and Isobel was somehow indisposed. It never hurt to be safe.

"Grab one each! I charged each one up to last about three hours, so you can save on you phone batteries until then. So long as there's not any ghosts that can only be seen in lights that aren't pink, at least." Even within the earth, the Tiger were not safe from Passeri's meaningless twittering.

"Are you sure you wanna be wandering around on your own like that, boss?" Passeri was quick to interject once Ezra had translated Isobel's orders. "I can't imagine Mark would be very happy with us if we went and let his Jack get squished by a boulder! Or fall into a spike pit. Or trigger a deadly dart trap. Wouldn't Ezra be able to track them down with those papers of his? Or can he- Sorry-" She switched her attention, for a moment, addressing the Knight boy direction for the first time today. "Or can you not do it in reverse?"

She shrugged.

"Either way, at least he'd be able to patch himself back up if he got into a sticky situation, you know?" Ultimately, and perhaps obviously, she wasn't all too concerned with Isobel's safety, despite her words. Putting aside that this was her job, and therefore, the responsibility for any incidents she encountered was purely her own, she was much more concerned about letting the mousy woman out of her sight. The whole reason she'd come today was to scope her out, after all, splitting up with her would be a total waste of her time.

"Up to you though, boss! I might just be worrying too much. It's kinda scary down here, isn't it?"

WHOLE WORLD BLIND
A snort came from Hide, a mocking smirk gracing his lips as he peered down at Pluto. Pluto? More like Mercury. Well~ actually, maybe Pluto was fitting. The reject of the planets. He snickered to himself, eyes squinting in amusement at his own thoughts.

Hide was abruptly dragged out of his musings by the next revelation. He was going with who?! His mismatched eyes widened in shock, mouth agape in outrage. THE AUDACITY-. The main entrance too? Did Hector have a fucking death wish for him?! How in the hell did he expect Hide to do that? Even he himself knew that he was a terrible actor. He bit the first knuckle of his index finger, his eyes frantically scanning the ground like it held some kind of answer. The corners of his mouth lifted, a quiet, nearly hysterical chuckle huffing against his finger. He bit harder. Would he even be able to keep his cool for the first few seconds he even caught sight of all those Tigers surrounding them? Trapping them?

Wait-... where the hell did Hector even want him and the weirdo to go?!

He blinked as he felt something warm confine his hands. His eyes snapped from their clasped hands, to Raquel's smiling face. Affronted- his brows furrowed. He was too shocked to react in time.He could only stand still, eyes wide as he was kissed... well. His hands were. His eyes widened even more, mouth dropping open like a nutcracker on Christmas morning. All of a sudden, blood rushed to his head, turning his whole face beet red. He tore his hands away to wipe them on his shirt in embarrassment. Or... well, he attempted to. Before he could tear them both away, he found one of his hands locked with hers. "HEY! YOU-" but everyone was already leaving. Goddamnit.

A reluctant sigh, he convinced himself to accept the situation. It wasn't like he would back out now. Though, her rapidly changing emotion kinda freaked him out... With a roll of his eyes, he trudged out of the building, hand in hand with the cannibal.

--

Clearing his throat, Hide shifted his shoulders. Being outside helped soothe his nerves a bit, though not by a lot. He pulled his collar, allowing cool air to seep under. He could tell his hands were getting clammy. The overbearing heat of them making them sweat, and flex his grip. He couldn't tell if he was more humiliated or embarrassed. Honestly- which one was truly worse?

Stiff as all hell, he fiddled with his earpiece, not completely sure of how it worked, but trying his best. "Uh.. In position... I think." He tried his best to ignore the presence beside him. With a sharp breath, he looked on to the Casino before him. It was bigger in person than he previously thought.

The Faceless Fox

Welsha glancing back when others came into the room, likely to help Akira with whatever job he was trying to task them with, though one individual stood out from the rest, more so cause they made themselves stand out with their, personality. Just from the way he entered the room, it seemed like he was trying to accommodate for something, he was finely dressed that was for sure, but his demeanor seemed was just way more expressive and he seemed to display way too much confidence. Welsha tensed when the man had grabbed her hand, she wasn't exactly comfortable with people whos potential she didn't know touching her, since there was a fair share of people who required physical contact to activate their potential. She didn't feel any different and nothing felt off, so that was somewhat good, but they were still wary, and her smile turned a bit strained in response. Though him kissing the back of her wrist made her relax somewhat since it showed he was just trying to be polite she supposed. Though her guard still wasn't all the way down, she would have to figure out his potential later to make sure her didn't use that opportunity to do anything to her. Though from first impressions, he didn't seem like the scheming type, though deceptive personalities was always a probability. Still he was more than likely a vet, and Welsha just opted to give him a polite smile in response to his antics, while he opted to apparently make himself comfortable. It wasn't until he said that he wanted to go to the east as well that Welsha felt unnerved once again, but then she thought about it for a moment and she supposed that going with him would atleast maybe gift them into their perspective about their potential, which could help them confirm nothing is happening to them. While Welsha would of preferred doing this mission alone for more freedom, she supposed it wasn't all bad at the very least.

Then another one came into Akiras office, a woman who was unlike the previous guy, much more refined in their manners , acting more like what you would typically expect from a tiger. She opted to go south since it was the place no one else wanted to go to, Welsha figured it was better for her to not go there since she really didn't want to have another encounter with the Phoenixs when they are probably still angry with the whole fiasco they did a while back. She gave Eun Ji-Young a sympathetic smile signalling their pity, to them for having to go into what was probably the most dangerous territory out of the three. Before focusing their attention back towards Akira who had finally decided to go ahead with their explanation.

The smile he gave to them was likely fake, she didn't trust Akira all that much, but apparently he was too lazy to do this himself and opted to call them in order to do his dirty work, though that is what is expected from a Vet they supposed, especially one such as Akira. When he presented the folders to them Welsha took it before Pablo could even reach for it, reading over it's contents with their typical smile, which they almost always had, before keeping it for themselves. When he said that he had to deal with their district her smile twitched a bit, Save the easiest district for yourself why don't cha she thought to herself, but didn't say it openly out loud, instead she took the folder and skipped over to Pablo with a cheery smile, and doing her best to prevent her eyes from twitching, not wanting her annoyance to be shown. "You wouldn't mind driving in your vehicle to the East Mr, now would you.... Also i don't think i recall you giving your name." It was probably a bit embarrassing for him to put on the whole charade and forget to provide his own name, then again, he probably could of expected his name to be common knowledge or something she supposed. Honestly, she wasn't taking her vehicle to any potentially dangerous missions, as she didn't want to risk it getting damaged, plus Pablo seemed to have a gentleman sorta ordeal going so he should probably be easy enough to work with. And as she skipped on out with him she couldn't help but ask the question "Ok, so since we are working together, just what sorta potential do you have? would make it easier knowing each others capabilities."
