Come one, come all!
Le Cirque Arcanes has finally arrived, just in time to ease you of your worldly troubles. Relax, laugh loudly and often as you're immersed in a world filled with wonder. From our sword swallowers to our magicians, there is something to intrigue and bewitch anyone.
But be warned. This world you may slip into is not just whimsical dreams and joy. There can be no Heaven without Hell. No joy without pain.
I wonder how well you can withstand both?
summary.
The story begins with the arrival of the Arcana Circus in the town of Portland, Maine 2024. Filled with acrobats, firebreathers, clowns and more it appears to simply be a fun thing for the families of Portland to view. The Runaway, fascinated by the circus and tired of their boring life, decides to stay with them, finding a place among the performers.
Justice ( a PI hired by the Runaways family) arrives in town following the trail of the of the teen. They're skeptical of the circus's charm and suspects something more sinister beneath the surface. As they investigate, they began to uncover that the beautiful, charismatic Ringleader and her troupe are much more than they seem.
Each of the circus members is far older than their youthful appearances suggest, a supernatural pact made with with Lenora; a witch/magician , binding them to eternal life. This pact, cloaked in the allure of a family and a promise of belonging, granted them immortality, freezing them in time at the moment of their agreement along with granting them powers and a home forever in the circus. In return for that immortality, they've handed over a piece of themselves as an Arcana card.one of many in the Lenora's deck and collectively giving her more power.
[Hello! Just to clarify, the premise of this RP and its roles will be individuals inside of the Circus itself who Lenora has offered immortality to throughout the years. Some of them may have been willing to hand over themselves, others may have been tricked by her. The only two who are not permanent members will be the Justice card and the Runaway/Fool. Through a series of events that will be decided by the players, the Circus could continue to flourish, be put to an end, or really whatever else is decided.
There will be a possibility for the death of characters. This will not be a happy go lucky Circus. Shit will very much, get real.
The Circus itself would have been created by Lenora in 1780. So there are lots of options for timelines for different characters, etc. I'll have Lenora's CS up asap, but some things will be left a mystery. Feel free to reach out for questions.
All roles will be individuals who were misfits in their time. Whether this was physically, mentally, or emotionally that can be left up to you. It would be ideal for whatever unique power to match with their history. Example; a knight turning into a sword swallower or strong man, an assassin; knife thrower, etc. ]

the magician.
Lenora, the charismatic Ringleader of the Cirque. She's often seen with her snake, Sol around her shoulders. Everyone in the circus either despises her completely or reveres her for her gift. There is rarely room for neutral feelings. She collects those who have wandered or been cast out of society.
the fool.
The Runaway.
Whether they've come from an unwelcome home or simply grown tired of their normal life, they sought out the circus for a chance at a new start. They're welcomed with open arms from Lenora, but not all the other performers are so eager to embrace them into the troupe. [18, senior in HS]
Justice.
Hired by the Runaways family, Justice tracked down where the Runaway left to, only to discover more than they bargained for. They can't help but feel unsettled by some of the troupe, and while Lenora herself remains vague about the Runaways presence, there's something deeply off about it all. [25+]
the hanged man.
A longtime member of the troupe, The Hanged Man is exhausted with immortaility. They've come to loathe Lenora for her curse after all their years together, and they seek an end to their long life.
the tower.
The Tower has embraced immortality completely. They're loyal to Lenora, and are her most devoted troupe member. They are one of the more violent members, and have definitely caused a few "accidents" during their years which has caused the troupe to leave towns earlier than expected.
the Hermit.
The Hermit, was Lenora's first card and troupe member. They're the wisest of the troupe, but much like the Hanged Man, they're eager for the life they lead to eventually end. Lenora has complicated feelings with her oldest friend/enemy.
Death.
Death, while originally thankful to Lenora for her gift, has grown power hungry over the years. Rather than just seek her demise, they crave the powers she's been given. They desire to overthrow her and secretly take the troupe for themselves.
the Moon
One of the last few members of the troupe Lenora's recruited and the Sun's sibling, they are older, a little wiser, and more objective about their situation. All they care about is keeping their sibling safe, and they'll do whatever they must in order to do so.
the Sun
One of the last few members of the troupe Lenora's recruited and the Moon's younger sibling. They are grateful to Lenora for giving them a home, but worry about her methods. Their optimism and innocent may come from only living with the troupe for a few years.
the Star.
Able to unlock or lock any door, the Star became a very useful talent. While Lenora is quite fond of her, she has grown resentful of the woman over the years. Never changing, and still in wonder in the drugs she had in her body during her venture into immortality..ever really left her system.
the Lovers.
Once filled with Love, now they dread they loath and find no belief in the emotion. They too are tired of immortality, but more so the woman who brought it on.
the Emperor.
Open
A leader, perhaps they were once a great figure among their people. Be it a King, diplomat, etc they are now long forgotten by time. Neutral/Negative relationship.
the Hierophant.
Open
A spiritual messenger. They once truly believed they were close to whatever deity they once worshipped, but years with Lenora has left them bitter in their faith. Negative relationship.

one.A Discord server will be made, but will not be mandatory to participate in. It's a great tool for updates, and keeping communication with players, so I'd like to have it available. There will be multiple channels to assist with building the rp, but information needed for all players will be available for Discord and this site . Lack of communication with me either through Discord or PM will result in removal and reopening the role to others.
two.All roleplayers must be 18+, this will be a Dark/Gritty roleplay/ TW include but are not limited to; kidnapping, blood, mentions of physical/emotional abuse, amongst possible others. We will be following RPN guidelines, but this will be a darker roleplay. This will also be a BIPOC and LGBTQIA friendly roleplay, so I expect all members to be kind. All roles will be aged 18+ as well, with several being older. Real face claims are required. Preferably singers/models/actors (using random everyday citizens is no bueno)..
three.Applicants/players may have a maximum of two characters. For the moment, I have a certain amount of "Arcana" roles listed.Those must be filled first before we add more in. Feel free to put a placeholder in the application thread once enough interest has been shown and it's made, but that does not automatically guarantee you the role you have applied for.We got more interest than I anticipated! One character per person for the moment.
This will be a literate roleplay. If you cannot provide at least two-three solid paragraphs with detail, then unfortunately this may not be the roleplay for you.
