Eric, the Weird Kid

The sun was starting to descend toward the horizon. In the humble forest village of Lanost, with the trees as high as they were, the sun had already dipped below the canopy, with little more than the occasional ray of sun glimmering down to illuminate the patch of huts and thatch and log walls. It wasn't an especially populous town, and it certainly wasn't an especially wealthy one, but it had been around for quite some time. It was one of the frontier villages responsible for providing lumber to one of the more significant towns nearby, which in turn provided the food that the people of the village needed to survive the winter.

Within the village, most of the adults and children were impoverished. There was a continuously-growing mountain of tasks to be completed. Things needed to be moved, other things carved, other things dug, and other things gathered. The forest was bountiful, but also dangerous. Without the thatch and log walls around the village, the surrounding monsters would have already torn it to shreds. The villagers regularly left the safety of the walls to collect the resources that they needed to survive, but only with the protection of the combatants that they hired from the Adventurer's Guild using the proceeds from their logging ventures.

However, several families and a group of orphans were especially impoverished. Those who could not help out with the logging were deemed 'a burden', and were looked down upon. Among those families was the Paul family, headed by Paul and his wife Jane. Theirs was a small family, including only one son, Eric. Their other children were too frail to survive long after childbirth. Even Eric was born unusually frail, but he was remarkably energetic, and ate very well, so he pulled through. At first, Paul and Jane thought that this was a blessing. However, as Eric continued to grow, they realized that his behaviors were very abnormal. Rather than being playful and running around, Paul seemed to continuously do repetitious motions for hours on end, with every spare moment he had to himself. His parents would often watch him do these motions in the corner of the hut in disbelief. Eventually, rumors began to spread of Paul's demon-possessed son and the various rituals he performed.

Following the rumors, his parents once called a holy man to have their son evaluated for demon possession. Of course, this was not cheap, but his parents were terrified for their one and only precious son. The priest reassured them that, although their son was extremely abnormal, he was most certainly not demon possessed. While that was a huge relief to his parents, once the rest of the village heard of it, they decided to change his nickname. He went from being known as Paul's demon-possessed son to being Paul's weird son. Everyone tried to stay away from him when he started doing his weird repetitious exercises, and they were hesitant to interact with him even when he was acting normally. In that way, Eric was somewhat ostracized throughout his childhood.

Within one of the many huts of the village, there were two rather thin fellows, one a thin man clad in decaying leather armor, and the other a lithe woman in several layers of home-made clothes. There was also a child, the likes of whom looked well-built and athletic. The father looked down at his son with a warm, if confused smile. "Alright, Eric. You've had your meal, so now it's time to earn your next one. The elders would like you to help the other children help the merchant get his belongings back into his cart. You know where he is, right?"

The child nodded, and grinned excitedly. "How heavy are his supplies, father?"

His father tilted his head, smiling more, but looking even more confused. "Oh son. I have no idea. Just go and help. And please try to make some friends this time."

His mother, who was grinding away at some wheat kernels with a grindstone to make some flour, added in, "If you don't make a friend this time, Eric, so help me Oerlindel, I'll give you ten spankings."

The child lowered his head a little, looking ashamed, but still pretty energetic. "Yes mother, father. I will try to make some friends today!" He then rushed for the door.

Before he completely left the house, his father quickly interjected, "Don't be too ambitious, son! Just one will do!"

His son waved a little in recognition of his father's words as he raced out the door. His father and mother looked to one another knowingly, with a little bit of concern, then went back to their chores.

The kid raced through the village. Since the sun was going down, people were already preparing for the night. Some people were dipping cloth-tipped sticks in tar to get some torches ready for the night watch, whereas others were stringing their bows and filling quivers. A few maidens were helping one another carry water over to their houses for evening baths, and others were scurrying about to gather some firewood from the community pile. However, the kid seemed to pass over these as minor details - he was more focused on the various children rushing in the same direction he was going.

There were a few playful cries like, "I'll get there first!" and "I'm going to lift more than you!" and other such things. Eric just followed along with the others in silence, smiling as he thought of something pleasant. Once he and the other kids arrived, the merchant greeted them with open arms. The fellow was wrapped up in a cloak and a headwrap, and was evidently a traveler from far away. His voice was crackly and whiny, like that of a smoker. "Ahh, more helpers! Wonderful! Please carefully raise these crates into the cart. Be careful, they're very valuable!" Around the merchant, several of the kids who had already arrived were carefully placing certain objects into the remaining empty boxes, as the merchant directed. The orphans were among these kids - evidently, they were sent to help much earlier than the rest of the village children.

Eric effortlessly performed the desired tasks. He lifted the crates with his chiseled muscles - crates that several other children had to work together in order to lift - and cautiously moved them over to the crate. However, the other kids snickered at his clumsy attempts at getting the crates he lifted into position. The Merchant scolded Eric for his clumsiness, and instructed several other kids to guide the crates he lifted into position. He did manage to speed up the process significantly, however. Minutes passed, and the merchant's possessions steadily started to accumulate on the cart.

illia frei 8.jpgIllia Frei
Illia was a thin, petite child. She was just as impoverished as anyone else in the village, even more so thanks to having no family to her name, but she rarely cried. The faith leaders ordered the handful of orphan kids to assist a merchant with loading up. Some of the kids cried and whined, the pains of hunger and exhaustion incredibly taxing on their growing forms. It was why Illia was so small despite being eight years of age.

The merchant was cloaked, his headwrap obscuring part of his face. She didn't trust the man. His voice sounded like he had some sort of lung disease... it was a strange mixed sort of appearance when such a gravely voice was so keen on encouraging the children. The orphans had gotten there first, but their weak assistance wasn't enough to get things done by nightfall. The merchant sent for more. Everyone was so keen on getting him out before night, the merchant and villagers alike. She just... had a bad feeling about it.

The weird boy was here. His coordination could use some work, but his strength was impressive. He made full-grown men look weak.

"Eric," she called after he was scolded, choosing to be the one to instruct him where to place crates and materials. Her soft, childish voice was unnaturally calm and good at the task, expertly guiding each of his movements. This was where she was useful. Lifting boxes was such a pain, each heavy box a strained effort. Eric made them look featherlight. A streamlined process made things go by swiftly, all boxes on the cart within another twenty minutes.

All the while the merchant observed from a distance, taking notes on a scroll of paper. She couldn't help but eye him every few minutes. Something was off but she couldn't put her finger on her. Maybe he had ripped someone off? It wasn't a crazy idea. Such a poor village, they'd take whatever they could get. Illia set the feeling aside, considering that had to be the reason. When everything was said and done, the merchant walked up to the gaggle of kids. He gave a tiny pouch of coins to Eric, the largest, physically, of the starved children, and left.

The other kids eyed Eric with a ravenous look in their eyes. Illia gave a small huff of a laugh and turned away from the scene, uninterested. The little girls and boys could enjoy some change, maybe get some bread with it or a rare piece of candy. "Thanks for the help, Eric," she said, arms folded. She was watching the sunset slowly darken, watching the merchant hop into the court and start heading out beyond the walls of the village. "He sure bought a lot, don't you think?"

The death spasms had stopped minutes ago. It was not the cleanest of kills, but it had at least been quiet. Clearly Hinkiro still needed to practice performing swift and stealthy executions on such creatures... humans were smarter and more observant than goblins. It could have ended badly.... but it didn't.

The mangled remain of a dark clad human was underneath him. A man from the camp not too much deeper in the woods. They seemed like a bunch of very unsavory types, this one had been looking towards a village. And he knew a predator when he saw one. This man was indeed a predator. A village of which Hinkiro looked towards now. It seemed of little interest... a town of squalor her doubted even the monsters around here would get much out of unless that had a taste for skin and bones... so why humans would hunt the city was beyond him.

In the shadows of the forest, the chunks of meat that the drake ripped from his kill no longer gleamed in the sun. The blood, At least, was still warm. A quick meal before he moved on, he supposed.... maybe. He could always stroll into town. They wouldn't like that very much but it could be an amusing cap to the night.

Eric, the Weird Kid

Eric finished the box-loading task and wiped some sweat from his eye. One of the more helpful and brainy orphans had helped him figure out where to put the boxes, and warned him when he was doing something incredibly stupid like lowering the boxes with his hands between the box and the cart, or rushing straight towards other kids with the boxes in his arms. It would've been a disaster without her, to be sure. Eric was thankful for the assistance. After all, it let him focus his quite limited brain power on working out!

As Eric looked around for any possible remaining stuff to lift, he noticed the merchant holding out a sack of coins his way. Eric looked surprised, but accepted without a second thought as the merchant explained the reason he was holding them out to the kid. Then, the merchant started heading out with his cart full of belongings, leaving Eric to distribute rewards.

Eric's brain started to hurt. He didn't really know much about currency. When he opened the bag and looked inside, all he saw were a bunch of funny-looking circular metal things with symbols on them. So he just sort of shrugged and gave everyone one coin, giving an extra one to the kids that stood out to him as being 'especially helpful'. Once they received their coins, the kids all ran off, leaving Eric and the orphan girl. The muscular kid looked worried that all the other kids were running off so fast, but looked relieved that the orphan kid was sticking around, at least. Eric looked over at her as she started talking, and pulled out coins to hand to the orphans.

As she made a comment about the merchant's cargo, Eric smiled cheaply. It looked like he was trying too hard to look like he agreed with her, like some sort of phony corporate smile. He replied, "Uhh...yeah, that made a good workout! I liked the one with the metal cylinders in it." He wasn't nearly as sweaty as he normally was after a workout, and he was still energetically shifting his weight between his legs, so that was also clearly a lie. Once he finally handed out all the coins to the other orphans, he looked down at the pouch. Five of the little coins were left. He plucked out three of them and held them out to the girl. "Here's yours, by the way. Uhh...miss...uhh..." He seemed to be blanking on the girl's name, not that he wasn't evidently trying to remember.

After some belated introductions, the merchant was outside the village. Eric looked down at the girl again. "By the way...uhh...can you please be my friend?" He looked down at the girl rather awkwardly. There was some amount of pleading in his expression, but there was also some anticipation. It was the expression of a kid who had forgotten to do his chores.

Hunter of Skies

With a quiet groan, Hunter rose from his deep slumber, pushing himself off the ground and onto his knees. His body was sore, he felt like he had died then came back to life, he could barely remember had transpired. The last thing he remembered was running through a forest with invaders on his tail, using the forest to his advantage and activating traps he had triggered that killed or maim the invaders. He got into a melee fight with a couple, using his Tomahawk and warclub as his weapons. He slammed his Tomahawk into the neck of one invader, breaking the handle, only to be shot by the other. With the last of his strength, he slammed his war club into the skull of the enemy. He fell to his knees and felt sharp pain and a loud bang, he was shot again from behind and fell this time as he felt his life fade away.

Hunter placed a hand on where he felt the pain previously but saw nothing there, he stared at his body seeing he was fine, checking his equipment, his bow was gone, his war club was gone and his Tomahawk was broken. His quiver was still on him but empty. He did have his skinning knife which would be nice for hunting. But Hunter felt like a lot of his knowledge of the outside was gone. The native's eyes looked all around him, seeing his new surroundings, the trees towered far into the night skies, fireflies flew around the clearing he was in lighting the area up. He stood up onto his feet seeing he still had the clothes he had made for himself were still on his body and intact. His hand waved across his body as he turned and a screen popped up in front of him. What was this! His eyes scanned this window quickly, he didn't know how to process this and his hand swiped it away as it faded away.

As he did this he saw a large wolf walking up towards him from the forest. Hunter stared at it quietly, he tried to feel himself for a weapon but he could not find one, his broken tomahawk would not work and his Obsidian knife was too fragile a weapon without breaking it. Instead the native knelt down gently with hands out to show he was not a threat, but this wolf was hungry, wolves that were hungry would not care if they have to die for their food. Hunter could see it in its eyes, the hunger. Must not have eaten for days.

Hunter knew he had a fight on his hands and he was unarmed, his eyes moved to a rock on the ground, that was his only weapon. The wolf rushed Hunter, immediately Hunter grabbed the rock, big enough to hold and sharp enough to stab with. The wolf jumped onto Hunter as it bit into his shoulder, letting out a roar of pain, Hunter began to stab the wolf into its stomach from below as he threw the wolf off him. Hunter growled and stammered backwards holding his shoulder, he could feel the warm liquid ooze down his body and back. The wolf was limping a little as its muzzle was covered in his blood. The rock Hunter held was bloodied as the two began to circle. Hunter didn't realize that he was now above a hill as the wolf rushed him again, Hunter let out a battle cry and had his arms open, ready for the beast now.

The wolf slammed into Hunter and the two rolled down the hill, Hunter repeatedly hit the wolf with the rock on its head as it bit into his arm with the injured shoulder. When the two reached the bottom, Hunter had stabbed the wolf in its head before rolling off and hitting his head on a tree, falling unconscious. The scene fell quiet as both stopped moving.

illia frei 8.jpgIllia Frei
Illia took the coins and tucked them into a poorly stitched pocket on her tattered dress, "Illia Frei. Thank you, Eric. Are you sure you'd want to be a friend to me?"

She looked up to him and rubbed her arms, the cold of the night beginning to settle in. Her clothing wasn't thick enough to keep the wind at bay. She sighed, speaking much better than one her age should be able to, though her voice was still quiet and high-pitched like a child, "I'm an odd girl, an orphan of the village. I'm not exactly a desirable friend to seek out... though, I suppose you're labeled as odd, yourself. Mm... fine."

A small smile worked its way onto her lips, one that only hinted that she was resigned to her fate. What she decided she would say next would no doubt invigorate the excitable boy... it'd be a pain. Oh well. Illia started to walk back towards the nearest building, "As you might have been able to tell, I'm not strong. I've had very little to eat for years, and my upper body strength is pathetic. You're known for working out. Might I... ah... well, would you be willing to show me a thing or two to exercise? You seem to enjoy it, and you are seeking friendship, so we could hang out doing that."

Her hands raised a little, "I would be a complete newbie at it, mind you. I don't know if that would bore you to death."

Hunter ( Skyhunter Skyhunter )

Ah, this sucks. Kaos grumbled, walking- still walking through the forest. It had been a few days since she had started her journey. No matter where she looked, it was trees and more trees. When was she going to start seeing a glimpse of civilization? She was getting tired of continuously walking with no end appearing insight. It just reminded Kaos how far, and well-hidden her village was to outsiders. It was already annoying how there were monsters that would chase after her now and then. Since she had set off on her own, she didn't have anyone to deal with it for her. Kaos had somehow managed so far since the forest was her backyard that she had grown up in.

From what she had known, the country that she had lived in was called Protectorate of Ryke. It seemed to be pretty similar to any other fantasy that she read. Based on what she observed and heard, although their interactions with humans were minimal, it seemed they had an amiable enough relationship to engage with trade. As an elf herself, it appeared that other fantasy races existed that didn't exist in her previous world. She hadn't seen any yet, though. Except for monsters, but they were all troublesome and noncommunicative. Wasn't there a slime who could in the other one though?

The more she thought about it, the more she wished she had already reached somewhere. Kaos looked around. It wasn't like she had a map on her, so she wouldn't be able to tell. But it had already been days, and she still hadn't reached anywhere or seen anyone! She took a bite of what was basically like an apple. She rolled her eyes, lazily scanning her surroundings. To her shock- it was still trees. She had let out another sigh. Was there perhaps a lack of adventurers working at the moment? Adventurers- that- that thing is an actual thing, right? Adventurers weren't just made up fiction back in her old world. It should apply to this world too, shouldn't it? Mmm. Perhaps she went to the wrong world or-

This stench. She couldn't help instinctively narrowing her eyes towards its direction while scrunching up her nose. It was the smell of blood. Should she go there in that direction? If she could smell it, then obviously others too. If there was a monster around, it could also end up troublesome. She folded her arms, thinking about the matter. Kaos was quite a bit bored at the moment. She could always take a peek and then run away once she judged the situation to be bad.

Okay, let's go! Without thinking about it much further, she headed towards the direction of the smell. She took one last bite of the apple, and the core was all that was left. She threw it without much thought. It was going to become fertilizer for the soil anyway.

"Oh!" she let out a small gasp, seeing the person unconscious on the floor. It seemed he bled quite a bit. Kaos wasn't quite sure how long it's been, though. She moved closer towards him. "The first person I see, and it seems like, he's dead?" She poked him slightly with a stick from who knows when she had picked up when she was getting closer. It was easy to see what's the cause. There was a wolf that she's more than sure was dead. Although it had meant, they'll probably be attracting others soon from the smell of blood alone. If there hasn't been any that come yet, then maybe it hadn't been long since the fight took place.

"Do I help him or--- Is it too much effort?" She wondered aloud. Kaos didn't really like putting too much effort, but then again, if this were like a story, wouldn't this person be thankful and be a helpful companion from now on? Well, if he was still alive to do so. She saw some herbs that were good in performing first aid, especially for blood loss. She groaned. Did she really want to walk back there, though? It wasn't that far, granted. But still. She takes another good long look at the injured person and sighs. He's lucky he's the first person she's met in her journey. She'll grant him this grace then.

After gathering all the herbs needed, she took some and made a lousy attempt of grinding it with a rock into a paste. "Tsk. I didn't want to carry too much, so I left my stuff back at home. I thought I could buy some when I finally reached a town or something." She complained. When it was barely passable, she moved closer to apply it on his wounds.

There hadn't any beast as of yet that came for its next meal.

As Hunter floated in darkness, he could hear the cries and yells of the battlefield. What was this memory? He heard the sound of what could only be perceived as loud bangs and whizzing, blood hitting the ground and the clang of weapons. He could feel the presence of someone nearby but he wasn't sure who it was. Then his shoulder began to burn, and Hunter's eyes popped open.

He could feel this stranger apply this paste on his bite wound and Hunter growled as he rolled away from her and stood up quickly, having his injured shoulder and arm away from this stranger. His uninjured arm raised and ready to fight, he looked like he was in pain, the bites were hurting as he stood where he had killed the large wolf. " Who are you? " He asked Kaos, eyes untrusting, but seeing it was a woman, his hand lowered as he calmed down. In his culture, women were life givers and healers, you do not hurt them or raise your hand at them.

Hunter stood up straight now, the bite was now bothering him as his adrenaline died off, he winced in pain and looked to his shoulder, the bite was deep, he'd live if he could heal the wound, his forearm was also bit, not as deep but still hurt. His eyes moved back to the elf before him.

"Neifra hasn't returned," a man said to another in the dark camp. The man was older, sporting a grey, gnarled beard and messy hair. A long scar was drawn from the tip of his torn right ear, down across his cheek, almost onto his jaw. His dark blue eyes looked annoyed.

"What do you mean he hasn't returned?" the second man was the merchant that had bought a whole cart full of things from the village. He stood beside his horse, looking back at the older first man.

"How much clearer can I make it, idiot? He was running scout and never made it back."

"Shit," the merchant cursed.

"Did the village catch on?"

"Not a chance. Couldn't have been them. Maybe it was a monster. The sale went off without a hitch. Little bastard kids stocked everything up on the cart. I hardly even needed to do shit. There's nothin' else of use in the town. We're clear to burn it to ash and take back the coin I handed off."

"Calm and clear. Love it. Fuckin' sad for Neifra though, a monster's a shitty way to go out."

"No doubt."

"Well, it's not worth it to look for the body. Too busy for that. Get the shit in the camp, we've already started packing it up."

"Yeah yeah, I'm goin'," he led the horse and cart further into the large camp, the idea of a missing member of the group souring the mood from his haul.

A few minutes later, they were already prepped and ready to go. Three carts full of their things rolled across the uneven ground of the forest floor. The group of bandits was large, one hundred and fourteen in total, and nearly all of them combat-ready. The camp they had been staying in had been completely packed up. They thought little to nothing about burning down a village just for the coin they had paid with not thirty minutes earlier. They were quiet, however. They were used to this. Most of them were veterans that left civility and morality behind in whatever war they were a part of, and they knew better than to alert their victims to their approaching presence.

Save for the pathetic litany of village guards, there was little to stop the bandits from their approach. The bandits spread out, every ten feet striking a match to a soaked torch, and tossing it to the base of the logs that made up the village wall. It took some doing, at first only the grass caught fire, but when it lit, the bark on the logs started to go up like roman candles. Most of the bandits laid in wait at the entrance to the village, however, waiting to play golf with the heads of the victims that tried to run from the rising smoke and flames. It wasn't long before fire jumped from the wall to the first building that was claimed by the flames, aided by a strong breeze.

As though roasting a bonfire, the bandits cackled with glee and humor, fully entertained by their efforts to massacre innocents.

As she placed the herb paste on his injured shoulder, his eyes suddenly snap open. She couldn't help flinching instinctively in case he would do something to her. Kaos moved slightly away from him as he did. Talk about gratitude. She already put so much effort to help him but this is how he reacts. She puffs up her cheeks, lips pouting. Her mood had soured from his actions. How could he act like this? She was obviously wasn't the bad guy here. She could have left him but she even made the effort to help. How could he treat her this way. Hmph! She completely had forgotten she was ready to leave him earlier.

Her purple eyes narrowed at him. How rude. He had asked for her name but didn't give his own. "I'm not sure how it works in your culture but shouldn't you also give your name when asking for others?" she grumbled at him. She wasn't quite sure if she wants to bother with him anymore. Seeing him take a more relaxed stance, Kaos decided to be forgiving and be the more mature one. "I'm Kaos." she introduces herself. Wait- did she also need to introduce that she was an elf. If you look at her appearance it was pretty obvious. It wasn't like she was hiding it either.

He stood up so Kaos also stood up. "Anyway, if you want to get your injury healed sooner, you can apply this paste." she gives him the large leaf where put the paste she had made. "There isn't any merit for me to hurt you so you can take it with a peace of mind." She made sure to pass it while avoiding touching him. She was still a bit wary about him. Although, it was more of pettiness in reality.

Before anything else could have happened, the bright orange-red light had caught her attention. Was that a forest fire? Even someone like Kaos couldn't help but be concerned of fire occurring especially when everywhere you look its a forest. It would easily spread out and affect the rest. This was a big deal. It wasn't like they had firemen in this world. Perhaps if there was someone capable of performing water magic- she recalled those in her village. She clicked her tongue. Maybe, she should have put more effort in her magic practice. She wouldn't be able to handle anything of that size if she could see that all the way here.

"Uh-" she took a glance at the injured stranger before running into a sprint into a direction of the fire. There was no plan. She wasn't really thinking anything in particular but that fire shouldn't be spread or grow larger than what was already burning. "Who is the idiot who thought it would be a good idea to burn the forest." she cursed. It was probably some dumb human. Humans tend to do pretty dumb things. This was also given in her past world. At least now, she was an elf.

The cart rolled back into the woods, and Hinkiro swallowed what mouthful he had, watching it do so. He could come back to his food, but he wanted to see what sort of devastation it would be when it got ambushed by the bandit camp it was heading into.

He crept along the brush, closer back toward the camp. He was wrong, it seemed. While he dared not get close enough to listen, he could make out the merchant coming down from the wagon in the light of the campfire. Well now... doesn't that beat all. Supplying themselves?

No... as he watched them, fixing to leave, so to did the pack up and made their way towards the village. So that's how it was. Thats how it was...

He followed behind them, a bit of ways. What a world this was. That village was so weak they could have just held it at knife point. With this many people.... with the torches he saw being lit in the distance... this wasn't about the money. It was about the sport. The spectacle. This world was not just stagnant, but also tainted it seemed. How.... pathetic.

It would be a slaughter. A shame... as part of Hinkiro had been hoping to take this village now that he had found it. But with this many bodies, there was nothing he could do. There was just too many. But there were so many backs facing him now...

Hinkiro circled around. Towards the road where the wagons had been kept. A safe distance from the village and its fires. Smart... at least they wouldn't burn if a stray wind changed. What wasn't smart was how many they had left to guard it. Four, while the rest where at the entrance or elsewhere hoping to get their fun. In their defense, they wouldn't need to defend it as there wasn't anything they needed to worry about.

Well. He couldn't resist such a temptation to cause some trouble for the troublemakers. Maybe there was something he could do after all...

He struck quickly at the man farthest out. After crawling in his belly through the brush if the woods using the cover of the Night as his advantage. The noise of the village would cover his approach. Waiting was painful thougj, it alwqys was. But when the right moment presented itself he took it.. Hinkiro darted forwards like a serpent and clamped his Jaws around the man's leg. He let out a scream as he was pulled down and drug into the bush.

A scream that alerted the three others. But by the time they got to thrashing underbrush, Hinkiro had already done enough damage.

"Chelvin!" Cried out the bandit rushing to her friends aid. But she did not get even a pace from the brush when the drake launched himself at her.

His teeth grappled around her throat and his weight caused both of them to fall back as her screams came out in a wet gurgle.

"The monster!" One exclaimed as the other shouted, "Kill it! Kill it!"

Hinkiro didn't have enough time to turn about on them when he felt the force of a light blade glance off the scaling of his shoulder. The stupid fools should be running, his scales were tougher than some dinky short-

*CRASH*

The drake was sent rolling off the bandit woman as the head of the mace slammed into his side from a full double armed swing. That hurt something fierce... and he was still gasping in pain and surprise. Scrambling to get up in time as the two advanced.

Eric, the Weird Kid

As the small girl responded, Eric stared down at her. He seemed surprised by something as he listened. However, once she started to elaborate, he looked a bit more good-humored. ”I’m just looking for a friend, not a business partner. Besides, you seem really smart! It makes me want to be around you!” He had a bright, wide grin on his face as he announced that last comment. But his hesitant expression reappeared not too long thereafter, and he added, ”Oh, but, uhh…it’s not like I don’t have my own reasons to do so either.”

She seemed to start wandering back between the huts of the village, so he followed her back. He watched her closely, as if trying to see what she was thinking, but evidently her skull and face were impermeable to his rater superficial inspection. Once she started to comment on herself, he watched her and nodded every now and then to punctuate her rather astute statements. Upon hearing her mention his reputation for working out, his expression brightened. After she proposed learning about exercise with him, he started to look ecstatic. He hugged her real tight(though not painfully tight) as she caveated her proposition. ”Don’t worry about that Illia. I’ll show you the greatness of exercise.”

Once the excitement of the moment faded, he let her go and looked around. ”The first rule of exercise is to eat a lot.” As he spoke this rule, he held out his finger. Evidently, he thought very highly of this wisdom of his. ”Unless you eat more food than you burn through your exercise, you’re never going to benefit from working out, no matter how much you do. Exercising is about refining your body. If you don’t have any energy to do that refining, you’re just going to end up accumulating damage.”

He then spotted something off in the distance and grabbed Illia by the hand. ”So then, let’s grab some food!” He then essentially dragged her over to a food stall run by one of the villagers, and paid all his coins to get a huge amount of different kinds of snacks. He then shared half of it with Illia and strongly urged her to eat up.

It was a little while later when they genuinely started exercising. Eric guided Illia over to one of his favorite workout spots in the village, over by the gate, and showed her a pretty simple and easy exercise – the Jumping Eric! It involved moving one’s arms up while jumping, and landing with one’s legs wide apart, then jumping again and bringing one’s arms down to one’s sides and landing with one’s legs together. Doing the action repeatedly wasn’t too hard, even for a beginner, but maintaining it for an extended period was a challenge.

While Eric first started testing Illia to see how far she could go, right after having a rather large meal, he started to smell something. ”Hrm? Is that smoke?” Eric looked around, puzzled. ”It’s not time for the torches to get lit. Not yet at least. The sun hasn’t even set fully yet.” He seemed to have said these words aloud, as if talking to himself, but he still looked over at Illia after speaking to see her response.

Not long after his comments, the smoke became denser and denser, and the walls started to billow with flames. Eric looked surprised, and quite horrified. The cackles and laughter on the other side of the wall, especially given the sheer number of sources, was exceedingly off-putting. He quickly looked back at Illia and, in the heat of the moment, asked, ”Uhh…oh no! We have to put out the fires! I’ll go to the well…” He then got himself ready to hurry over to the middle of the village. He looked very confused, and more than a little panicked.

Before the fires started, Illia got scooped into a surprise hug. She let out a small squeak, startled by the boy's enthusiasm. He liked exercise more than she even thought! He was so weird!! She patted her dress down once she was back on her own feet, a tinge of redness touching her cheeks. Illia huffed a little sigh, one of acceptance, "I think it might be a little hard for me to consistently eat, given my position in society and my age. I'm hardly eight. I'm an orphan. I'm in this poor podunk village. I suppose I have to try one way or another, though."

"Caloric intake is imperative to muscle building. Yes. I agree, Eric. If I worked out without eating first, then I'd probably just burn muscle instead of build it," she nodded as if to confirm what the boy said. She understood the general idea of working out, just not the nitty-gritty specifics of it. The energy you used had to come from somewhere.

Eric, ever the excitable boy, pulled her along to get food. She nearly tripped multiple times. He had no concept of money. She couldn't even stop him from spending all the coins he had JUST earned! She didn't fight his generosity, however. Illia was so hungry, she must have looked like a starving dog she was shoving food in her mouth so fast.

Just two bandits remained at the cart. Both men. One had tried to use a short sword, the other a mace. The sword did little to nothing, save making some fancy sparks. The mace's reaction, though, that got a greedy grin from the remaining bandits. "Damned lizard!" the one with the mace shouted, "Meik, grab a blunt weapon from the cart! I'll cover you!"

"R-right!" the second man darted at a full sprint to get into one of the carts.

illia frei 8.jpg"You little fucker've made mincemeat out of two of my friends you shit! I'll make a meal outta you!" the first shouted at the drake, teeth bared in a grimace as he advanced, trying to swing at the drake's shoulders with both hands.

The... the Jumping Eric? "Eric that's just a jumping jack," Illia giggled, "That's based on a toy, not someone's literal name." She got to exercising as best she could, but even doing ten in a row was tiring. With her breath heavy, she stopped at Eric's quizzical statement.

"Smoke?" she repeated, hands on her knees. Illia stood up straight and looked towards the direction the smoke was coming from. That was strange. Did something go alight? It didn't take long to get the answer as flames licked the tops of the wall in a growing arc, all along the wall. The smoke grew darker as it started to consume more and more material, and evil laughter could be heard echoing past the crackle of the fire.

"No!" Illia snapped back to reality, grabbing Eric's wrist, "The well is pointless. Look at the flames. The laughter. This is purposeful. There's no way to fight this fire with our resources. We need to get your parents. They'll be looking for you. If they can't find you, they'll die in the smoke. We need to find them and run. Lead the way. I'll try to keep up." She hoped they weren't already dead.

Eric, the Weird Kid

As the little girl grabbed his wrist, Eric looked back over at her, pausing and looking even more confused. "But...the fire---" he mumbled, immediately interrupted by her rather astute assessment of the situation. He calmed down a bit as she listened to her. He looked over at the flames as she mentioned them, and he winced, looking pained. He looked back at her as she commented on how the fire was intentional, and furrowed his brow. He nodded immediately after she suggested that they find her parents, then he quickly lifted her up and positioned her on his back. "No time for that. I'll carry you. And...away we go!"

He then started to jog through the village. The fire was rapidly spreading between the houses. There were intentionally made close together in order to be more space-efficient, so the fire spread rather quickly. There were some anti-fire measures in the design of the village - for instance, the houses were grouped into isolated groups so that incidental fires wouldn't spread between the groups so easily. But enough of them were adjacent to the wall that the village quickly started to burn out of control. Smoke filled the air. Eric covered his mouth with his hand, not that it did much to keep him from inhaling some of the smoke in the air.

After a few seconds of relatively swift jogging, Eric arrived at his home. It was closer to the center of the village, since his father was considered a valuable addition to the village. Once they arrived, Eric kicked open the door and yelled out, "Ma? Pa? I brought a friend!"

Upon getting inside, Eric's mother rushed over and hugged him. She didn't pay any attention to the girl on his back. "Eric! Thank Paleon you're safe! Your father is joining the rest of the hunters and adventurers in charging the front gate. He said that everyone else is going to the well, and that once they make an opening, we'll be trying to escape. I'm so glad you're safe, but we need to hurry or we'll get left behind!"

She then grabbed a few things, passing a small hatchet and a backpack to Eric, and keeping a small pouch for herself, and she rushed off, urging Eric to follow her from behind. Eric followed, still carrying Illia up on his back, and sort of haphazardly holding the axe and backpack in his free hands.

There were a lot of people by the well. It seemed that around half the village was gathered there. Everyone was looking around in a panic, wailing in sorrow, gritting their teeth in anger, gripping their heads and thinking, or otherwise contributing to the harrowing ambiance. Eric looked on-edge, and more than a little worried. His mother immediately started asking the others about what happened. One of the few people in the group who didn't seem to be panicking, a lady in trousers who everyone in the village knew as the village elder's daughter, commented, "The combatants went out front, we were waiting for the last few people. Everyone who hasn't run already should be here, so we're going! Everyone get ready, we're going to try and escape now!"

After a few seconds of news going around the group, everyone got ready, then they started quickly heading for the front gate. With all the elderly and infirm among the group, the pace was fairly slow, but it was still faster than a normal walking pace. Eric remained in grim silence, still taking in the sights around him. He was still frightened, but he looked like he was starting to get a more firm resolution on what he needed to do. His mother was helping a few older ladies keep up with the rest of the group.

Hunter of Skies

Hunter watched the pointed ear woman get all... Pouty with him? This one was a strange one already... Her appearance was already off putting, he wasn't used to her clothing, her hair, her ears, this had to have been a joke... Was the Creator playing a cruel joke on him because of what he had done to his clan? To his people? No... This was different, this was a different world, it had to be. The blood continued to poor down his body, its warmth shook Hunter out of his thoughts. The mention of having to give out his name to someone when he asked for hers made him stare at her for a moment.

" Uh... Yes. " Hunter nodded " My name is Hunter of Skies. " He explained, when given a name to her face. Hunter would remember it, this one helped him and he had been rather rude to her for showing aggression. He was raised better than that, but being thrown into a new environment and then immediately attacked wasn't exactly going to show kindness first hand. " Uh, Kaos. A strange name... Thank you for helping me, sorry for almost attacking you. " Hunter spoke as he was given the leaf with paste on it, this would help heal him, he thought. But suddenly the stranger elf randomly ran off, Hunter watched her go and raised a brow. " A strange woman. " his eyes moved to where a bright light was seen. " Fire... " He muttered.

Before he would move, he needed to heal his wounds. He sat down on his knees and began to apply the paste to his wounds. He growled through the pain as he applied the healing paste into his wounds. His should took most of the medicine since it was bigger and deeper. His arm didn't take as much luckily, he had just enough to cover his wounds. But now he needed to stop the bleeding. Hunter used his knife to cut pieces of his clothing garb, creating strips of hide from deer to wrap around his arm to apply pressure.

Then cutting into the beaver since it was the longest to wrap around his shoulder and torso to stop the bleeding of the shoulder. It hurt but Hunter was used to pain. Standing up and swaying a bit from the pain, he pounded on his chest for resolve and stared at the dead wolf he had killed. He would come back for the body, this would make for excellent clothing and its large leg would create a excellent weapon once refined and cleaned. The pelt for better clothing, and the head would make a excellent hood. Its meat for eating, bones for decoration and weapons.

But that would be for later, feeling better, Hunter grabbed the rock he had killed the wolf with and ran in the direction the elf did. Soon catching up with her, " What is happening? " Hunter asked.

Lilly Peggy - Human.jpgScreaming. That was the first thing that Peggy was aware of.

Slowly a pink haired girl opened her eyes. She had just had this strange dream where some grandpa in white robes told her she had died. It was dark. She could barely make out some figures near her but too dark to see anything clearly. That was weird. Normally she could see very well in the dark. "Hello?" She asked quietly.

A voice cried out followed by another scream. She tried shifting her ears towards the sound, but something felt off. She couldn't feel her ears. She tried to raise her hands to feel for them. Her hands were bound together. The rope was rough and hurt her wrists.

Another voice shouted. She tried to stand but found her feet were also bound. What was going on? Where was she? Why was she tied up? Where was her sister? "Lilith?" She called out.

"Shh!" One of the figures near her hissed.

More shouting from outside. Something about a lizard and a weapon. Was there someone fighting? "What's going on?" She whispered.

The figure that hushed her answered. "Don't know. Something bad. Keep quiet and maybe we'll be safe." She sounded scared. Should she be scared too?

Even more shouting. This time she caught was was being said. "You little fucker've made mincemeat out of two of my friends you shit! I'll make a meal outta you!" Was it a Grimm attack? But why would he be threatening to eat a Grimm? Everyone knew you couldn't eat them. Well, there was little she could do about whatever it was, so she leaned back and waited for everything to be over.

Back up again. His flank felt partially numb from the impact, but he was sure it was going hurt more later. The human... he seemed rather bold now didn't he. That look thinking he had scored anything other than a lucky hit?

Hinkiro's snout twisted into a snarl. No... a sneer. He sent away his companion to get a new weapon? So foolish. That would make this all the easier. Apparently he did not think Hinkiro had a mind beyond monsters or beasts.

And the bandit made his second mistake. Facing off like this. The bandit sacrificed power for speed. Raising the mace up high to bring it down ontop of him at this distance... There would be none of that.

Hinkiro lunged, underneath the swing and driving his claws into the man's chest pushing him back.

To the man's credit, he did not fall backwards. Instead he was trying to jam the mace into the drake with little effect. Hinkiro was too close. And his claws were already dug into his chest like knives... using his hind legs to push them in deeper and squeeze. Cutting deep wounds and crushing ribs as he sharp claws came closer together... until the man just couldn't stand anymore. And he left the man for dead.

"Meik..." Hinkiro said to himself, in a coarse and unused voice. There was one more...

Meik thudded into the cart with a loud crunch. Eyes wide and chest heaving in panic. Havor needed his help, he knew these thing, right? The young man was frantic in searching. Pulling out thing after thing from the bags that lined the sides. NOTHING! The gang must have had taken most of their weapons for the village

On the edge of hyperventilating, Meik slammed into the back of the cart just as he heard Havor scream. He had to hurry! Ripping open the flaps to the bound girls within.

They would recognize him. One of those responsible for keeping watch over them... not particularly nice, but not as bad as Havor. He certainly seemed to be in a frenzied state... panicked, even. His eye locked onto something. A blacksmiths hammer, right beside Peggy.

He tried reach it, but he was too short to do so without climbing in properly.

The flaps fluttered briefly... showing a dull reddish light illuminating the trees,, and wafting in the smell of smoke... then they fell back, obscuring their view once more. Meik being halfway in, up to his waist trying to stretch to get the hammer.

"Quick! Kick it to me quickly!" He demanded. Angrily... fearfully...

Whether Peggy did or didn't... he screamed and his contorted in pain. He struggled to cling onto anything he could... but he was drug out and onto the ground... where the screams would cease.

The dying people had been screaming about a lizard and a monster. It was most likely a Grimm. But that was okay. Death wasn't something she was afraid of. It was an inevitable to her, a fact she'd had to live with most her life. If this was how she died it just meant it was happening a little sooner than expected. Kaos wasn't in the best of mood. She had been walking through the forest for days, wanting to meet other people and finally reach a village or something when she stumbled into an injured person. She decided to help him. However, the way he reacted had put her off. At least, it seemed he know how to apologize for his mistakes. She wrinkled her nose upon hearing his name. Hunter? She re-examined his get-up. It seemed like he was part of some indigenous tribe of some sort. Was there even indigenous tribes here in this world?

What she couldn't stomach was that he would outright insult her in her face while apologizing. Was he really sorry even? She glared at him. It wasn't like he had any room to talk. Hunter of Skies? How very original. She would like to have him know that the way their names are chosen in their tribe was special and supposedly blessed by their God. "Hmph. As long you know your mistakes." she huffs. However, before she could have him get it, the fire was huge and burning bright enough that she could see it from where she was. She could no longer focus on him at that point.

Honestly speaking, Kaos didn't have that strong of an attachment towards nature compared to her kin. She might deny it but from the throbbing of her chest say otherwise. It seemed like at her core, she couldn't resist her instincts as an elf. Someone had to be burning things down intentionally. Otherwise, they had to be a really dumb adventurer who left their campfire unattended. She was running towards the fire although she didn't really have a plan in mind. The only thing that came into her mind was that it would have been really great if one of their water mages was here. Her eyes scan the immediate area. One of her main concerns was that if there was any valuable or useful herbs that might be burned down in the process. If they ended up losing them in the process, she'll strangle the culprits. Wasting! Valuable! Resources! Disrupting! The! Ecosystem!

She didn't know when she had slow down or when he had got here while she was lost in thought. Hunter managed to catch up. "Someone needing to be taught a lesson." she curses, answering him. Along the way, she could already determined the potential victims of the fire if it were to continue its path. They weren't that valuable since they were common but they had useful properties. She eventually stopped where she was when she could see the likely cause. It was humans, with a wagon- with restrained humans inside of it. Not surprising but slavery is a thing here, huh. Wait- was that a drake? "Oh, it's fine then. We'll just let the drake gobble up the humans up." she shrugged her shoulders, forgetting that Hunter was a human and that she was previously human as well. "How are we supposed to deal with the fire though?" the sooner the better. At the moment, it seemed to mainly burning down the village which she didn't care about. She was only slight disappointed that this was the state of the first village she'd found in her journey. Why was everything injured or in the process of being destroyed when she encountered them?

Damn. She really should have took her magic practice more seriously.

Hinkiro raised his head up from the body of the final bandit. Aside from the pain in his flank, he would say that he was pretty successful. It was a shame to leave these bodies to waste.... no not really. There would be no shortage to come back for.

In an almost canine fashion, he gave his body a shake. Sending specks of bandit blood smattering against the sides of the cart. Now came the hard part... push it.

Or would he need to? There were horses. He could just drive them into the crowd. That could be fun and quit-

"Hello? If you're going to eat us could you make it quick and painless?"

What the hell was that? More bandits? Didn't sound like a bandit... and what idiot would think a monster would care enough to eat them quickly and painlessly?

With some difficulty due to his sore side, he managed to climb into the back of the cart, and.... he was actually surprised.

"Children?!" He hissed in mixture of disgust and annoyance. Well... not all children. But there was any at all was despicable.

"I'm not going to eat you!" It snarled angrily at the fair and normally correct assumption that he might have eaten them...

But if he wasn't going to eat them... what WAS he going to do with them? They were probably some village girls... and if he decided he wants the village then it certainly wouldn't look bad on his resume that he saved a bunch of their lost ones. He wondered if anyone them were actually any useful.

After a moment of thinking, he used a claw to cut her restraints.... pushed her behind him, then used one of his legs to push her out the back of the cart. "Get out of here." The creature said. "All the lot of you. Take one of the carts and flee. Or follow me. I don't care. But get out of the thing so I can light it on fire and chuck it in midst of them."

Seriously. Girls. Slaves, or worse. Now he has to deal with them on top of a the bandit horde and the village.

He sawed off the bingings of the next girl and dump her unceremoniously out the back as well.... this was supposed to be much quicker. Much much quicker.

The flap opened once again and Peggy was surprised to find a large lizard poking its head in. So that's what the people outside were screaming about. Its scales were dark, dark enough that it could have been Grimm, but it was missing the white and red bone plates. Then to add to the surprises it spoke! Complaining about children and saying it wasn't going to eat them. "Oh that's good!" Peggy chirped cheerfully as it cut her restraints. "I don't think I'd be very filling."

Being pushed out of the wagon she found a scene of carnage. Bodies mangled and torn up. Most kids would be scared of such a sight, but once again Peggy was undisturbed. Instead she skipped over to the closest dead body and picked up the sword he had been carrying. It should have been heavy to her, she had always been a weak child, but for some reason she hefted it up with ease. That was odd. Must of been a light sword!

She came back to the cart as the lizard dumped the second girl out and climbed back in. The two remaining girls were still huddled in the back, as far away from the monster as they could get. “It’s okay.” Peggy said gently as she started cutting them free. “He’s a good lizard. He’s helping us.” The girls hesitantly made their way off the wagon, skirting around the drake. Peggy then hopped down and rested the sword on her shoulder. It was an odd look, a small girl in her night clothes with a sword that was clearly too big for her.

“Now, mister talking lizard.” She said, a spark of mischief in her eye. “Did you say something about setting this on fire?”

Hunter of Skies

Footsteps light as he was taught growing helped Hunter glide across the ground, staying with Kaos as they grew closer to the source of the flames. The forest was hurting, it always hurts during a fire, while usually necessary to keep overgrowth and weeds from flooding, this was excessive and different. This was either a accident or purposeful, as Kaos and he raced to the source of the flame, the sight he'd be first met with would be some large lizard, devouring a man.

Hunter had never seen a lizard get this big before, nor one devour a man before. Hunter was stunned to see such a beast even exist, they never had lizards get to this size, even to have claws. Hunter began to think, this beast could make good clothing and weapons, the front legs would make excellent war clubs. Lizard meat isn't what Hunter exactly had but he would be willing to try it. If he could take it out, the reward was excellent, but the risk was high.

But he was a warrior! A warrior never backed down, they were brave! Even in the face of defeat! The eye, he could take out the eye with the stone. That would hinder the beast until Hunter could find some sort of weapon, they were in a small village it looked like, he could find a weapon here to take down this beast.

" Stay here. " Hunter told Kaos as he placed a hand on her shoulder, ignoring her comment on devouring humans. This thing had to have caused this fire and the terrorizing of these people. Hunter then ran in a full sprint towards the scaly beast, holding the sharp stone in his hand. With a mighty battle cry, Hunter leapt up into the air, holding the stone in both hands high above his head. Whether the beast looked or not did not matter, Hunter slammed the stone into his mark, the lizard's eye. SHPLUSH. Blood splashed onto Hunter as he drove the stone through. The outsider pushed himself away from the most likely angry beast, a stone to the eye wouldn't take it down. Only piss it off and disorient it. Hunter waited for the beast to make its next move, he wasn't afraid. He could hurt it. That meant he could kill it. But a weapon was needed to take this beast down. He didn't even notice the children, but to this warrior he thought it would try to eat them.

Now. That was the last one out. Seriously... why was he even bothering doing this? These girls would just if left alone. And it wasn't like these bandits would be incapable of hunting them down. A waste of time... but he couldn't bring himself to just leave them. Well... not the children anyway.

Hinkiro stood at the edge of the gate, looking down at the girls, "Well? What are you still waiting for? Go on and get. The bandits will be back. Take the cart and go. Or, of course you can always stay with me and I can put you to work when we leave." He said grumpily. And don't think the thought hadn't crossed his mind. He could have had a handful of free slaves to do with whatever he wanted. Now that would have really given him a leg up on his ambition. No... he didn't yet have the power to manage such a workforce yet. That took force he couldn't spare. Followers, yes. Slaves, no...

"If you are going to stay, then wait. And you can follow me. And have a much better life for it... I can make sure you never become slaves again."

With rumble in his throat that barely passed as a laugh, he turned back towards the girl who was talking to him. "Dragon. Dra. Gun. I dont do that tongue thing. And Yes girl. Fire. Light this wagon up, and we will plow it into those bandits. See how they like that." He explained impatiently. "And don't talk like that. You sound like an idiot."

It was quite unfortunate that Hinkiro turned around when he did. For out of the night came flying a half-naked wild man. And for one of his eyes, it was the last thing it would see.

The stone entered the eye, and the pain was as intense and piercing as a bolt of lightning, and half as long. Seerimg torment that flashed through ever cell of his skull, only to end leaving a shadow and memory of it that felt just as bad...

With the stone lodged in, Hinkiro roared in uncensored agony. Though the agony was uncensored, the string of curses he spat out most certainly were. He failed and rolled and fell out of the cart. Bringing his claws to his face to try and pull the stone out. He felt faint from the blood pouring from the wound and the pain.

Despite it all, he was still thinking. The bandits could not possibly have come back already. Was one waiting in the woods? It didn't matter. There was someone here that needed to be DEAD!

"Run girls!" He demanded. His one good deed had to go and be ruined this madman. "Run, I'm going tear out this Turok wannabes heart and swallow it whole!" He shouted, with such venom and force that each word caused the blood to squirt out just a little bit more.

The elf was ready to call it a day. The drake was going to gobble up the humans. Monsters weren't really considered to be intelligent species as they were the type to think with their stomachs. Although she was aware there was a few that could classify as such, she hadn't really seen one so far. Kaos almost felt pity for the humans. Either they were going to be eaten or at least heavily injured in the process. "Tsk tsk." she clicked her tongue. It was unfortunate but who told them to start a fire here where it could easily spread towards the forest. Kaos sighs. Alright then- now she had to worry how to put out-

Upon looking closer, the drake seemed to be opening its mouth yet it wasn't biting the head off of the shackled girl. It kept opening and closing its mouth that she was growing concerned and suspicious about this drake. "What?" she whipped her head towards Hunter as he told her to stay put. What was he going to do? Before she could process what came next, he was already running towards the drake. Wait- did he perhaps think that it was the drake's fault? They aren't normally capable of breathing fire as you expected the way dragons do. If you were able to look carefully, you'd be able to tell with the way the piles of burning log was scatter about that this was clearly a human's doing. "Is he an idiot?" she furrows her eyebrows staring at him, flabbergasted. How couldn't he know simple information as this if he was a person that considered to be an inhabitant of the forest no- any person in this world should be aware of this. This got her thinking, was this man from her previous world perhaps? Or he was just from another world basically. She wasn't familiar with his get-up but it didn't mean that there wasn't exactly people like him in this world. This is a less technologically advanced world after all.

This drake, though. Is it- actually capable of speech? Her eyes started her shining. Kaos hadn't expected that this drake was actually capable of speech! She had longed to be able to speak with a monster before. Wasn't the fact it was capable of speech that it will eventually grow to be something powerful if not, interesting? How was she able to tell that it was capable of speaking? The sounds of screaming terror was totally drowning out the noise that prevented her from hearing the drake speak clearly.

"Hunter stop!" she shouted, moving closer to the two and the captured humans. Hopefully it would cause him to think twice before drawing more of its aggression. "This is all a misunderstanding. If you observed the monster more carefully, it seemed to be actually helping the female humans." Kaos turned her head to address the drake, "We don't normally meet many of your kind here," she begins, "even then, it seem you're different from the rest of them." Kaos grins, addressing the fact he can speak by actually interacting with him. "Anyway, you two should stop fighting otherwise the rest of them will escape." she points at the bandits. Those that still survived but were spineless were now using the opportunity to run away when Hunter rushed in, redirecting the drake's attention on him. Those that were more confident in their abilities were arming themselves at this very moment.

"He he he. Look, it's an elf. She'll fetch a pretty penny once sold."

Hearing those words and the rest chuckling, as though she was already good as captured, made Kaos look at them as though they were trash. Disgusting.

Hunter of Skies

Hunter backed up when the oversized lizard began to roar in pain and fell off the cart, Hunter slid backwards to stay away from the beast. When it began to speak and curse in the same language he now understood, Hunter's eyes widen and his brows shot up, he was shocked that this thing could speak. It just gets weirder and weirder. Hunter heard its next words telling children to run, he stood up straight looking confused. " What? " he asked no one, more to himself, this creature was helping these children?

Hunter was in deep thought for a moment, blinking a couple times only to be pulled out of his deep thought by Kaos who called his name and told him to stop his head turned to the strange pointy eared girl, explaining that this lizard was helping the captured humans. " Yes... I... Just noticed that. " Hunter explained, looking to the captured humans, his eyes looked sorry for he had just done. Then he turned his attention to the most likely angry drake, he lowered himself into a more agile position. " Kaos, I am pretty sure this thing is going to be pretty angry. " Hunter snaked a arm in front of Kaos and moved her behind him.

But then Hunter, along with Kaos, heard a man speak, speaking and hoping a elf would fetch a decent price. From the look Hunter saw of Kaos' face, they meant her, so is what she is, a elf. Strange name and world so far... This caused Hunter's attention to be directed away from the lizard and to a few bandits now that had armed themselves with either pathetic weapons such as rusted and dull sabers and axes or farm tools such as pitchforks or hoes. Now Hunter began to process it, these were the ones that caused this fire and the terrorizing of this village.

" Sold? You're not selling anyone. " Hunter vowed as he stood up, he moved closer towards these bandits waiting for one to make a move, having his injured side of his body away from the bandits. " You've caused this destruction, the fires. Terrozing these people. " This began to give Hunter flashbacks to his people. His whole demeanor changed, his teeth was gritted and his eyes angry " You won't leave this place ALIVE! " Hunter called, both fists clenched.
