Rhewi followed the group to a nearby tavern for a ‘feast.’ She didn’t feel much like eating, she rarely ever did. All of this simply got in the way of beating down orcs and other unsightly creatures. She understood though as these newer souls needed better equipment. As she found a seat nearest the window, she wrapped herself more snuggly in her fur coat. She didn’t do it to sustain the warmth as she had no need for it, but to make the others around her more comfortable. The coat would keep the cold that radiated off her skin inside. All of these creatures and humanoids seemed warm blooded, as much as she disliked company, she didn’t want to make anyone’s discomfort greater that evening.

Phorcis canned it for the evening, refraining from sharing his educated guesses on gloomy subjects. He instead downed a hefty tankard of mead with his meal. With his hilariously low alcohol tolerance, even that was enough to get him a bit tipsy. He glanced at these new heroes and finally asked, “Where did you all come from again? ‘Earth’? Not Aerth...?” Phor quietly played with the two words as he waited for them to respond. “Earth? Errrth... Aerth? Earth... hmmm...” The two sounded suspiciously similar to him. Had they not possessed gods-given weapons, he’d think these four were lunatics.

Drunken revelry never really appealed to Randolf, but he couldn't turn down a good meal. He did his best to purge the morbid speculation from his mind and enjoy himself while committing his new companions' names to memory. He mostly succeeded, though a few times his mind wandered back to the task ahead. Even so, he never spoke of his concerns. It would be best to let everyone enjoy themselves while the situation allowed. Plate nearly exhausted, Randolf took a bite of the turkey - this was turkey, right? - and took his time savoring it. Thankfully, it wasn't dry, which was his main issue with the way many pieces of white meat were prepared. An inebriated Phorcis inquired about the world they came from. Once Randolf swallowed, he spoke up.

"That's right," he replied, "Earth. It's confounding, honestly. There's a radically different world, just one letter off from my own, and I'm living in it? It's the kind of thing you can't really understand, so you just accept it instead. It feels wrong, but what else can I do when I'm breathing the proof?"

Elyse walks back to the group after collecting her payment. Immediately she goes up to the bar, and orders a large bottle of whiskey, or whatever passed for whiskey in this world. returning to the table, she hears Phorcis ask a question, and then hears it answered by Randolf. She tacks her own answer after he finishes speaking.
"Its kinda crazy you guys, theres electricityy, you guys dont have electricity do you? We also have these things called cars, think of it like a motorised cart, and there are no orcs, and there are like, 8 trillion people or something I dont know. And all my friends and family are back there~" She continues rambling, but as she lists off things from home, she starts feeling more and more sad, showing it on her face.

Kan for one seemed to fit in better then anyone. Eating his fill and drinking like a Japanese business man was forcing him. At some point he had people pouring drink into his pipe for him to chug, Kan Ibis was the life of the tavern with his shenanigans...

One thing he noticed was despite his clean smooth body that looked exactly the same as before on earth. it wasn't the same as on earth.
He is able to stand flexing as women and men hang off his arms, able to walk around in a t pose with a adult on each arm. It was uncanny to the 5ft8 man. He felt like one of the wrestling greats... He could punch out a giant.

The one paying for the party was drinking next to his elf buddy as other earth souls spoke. Kan instead went to the ice sculpture by herself "hi I'm Kan, I'm not sure if you know... cause I don't either, to be honest this is a lot like home for me... but am I a big deal? It feels like I'm viewed as a hero? But I've done nothing but flex and drink. Why the love when they haven't seen a victory yet?"
If it was drunken reasoning to deal with a other world experience or not is unknown. The man seemed to hold his liquor quite well, one would only guess he had been drinking from the stench that appears when he opens his mouth.

Shiki laughed along as Phor got drunk incredibly quick. At least he wouldn't bleed the guild dry... shiki could barely hear the small talk at his own table so he warped to stand beside the God sent souls "don't fret companions, this world is easy to roam if you are quick strong or clever. I have a eye for reading people and I think you souls will roam easily soon enough"
He was about to place a pouch of gold in Phor's hand to pay for this night as shiki had a certain schedule to keep. But the drunk second in command seemed a easy mark for thievery. He looked around to decide on who in this new party seemed trustworthy...

Rhewi’s eyes got wider and she moved herself a few inches away from this man. “Um, I am Rhewi. Interesting to meet you, Kan. I’m sure this can’t be the easiest thing for you, I apologize that this has caused you unpleasantness and made you rambly. Soon we will slay orcs and you will understand what an honor it is to be a hero.” Her voice was soft, she didn’t want to upset the man further. “This world is my home and if I can somehow make you more comfortable, please let me know. For now, rest and prepare.” She attempted a half smile at him, trying to be friendly.

As the people of Fieful and the God sent enjoyed the night, a low hum could be heard in the town square... Like stepping out from behind a wall they appear from nothing, slick black creatures with a disgusting glisten as if moist. Nightspawn...
nightspawn.jpg
These particular nightspawn were human in shape, but as those close enough took a second glance a scream echoed throughout Fieful. It was the nightspawn! A confusing noise and sight for all as these monsters have never been known to make vocal noise.
"YAaaaaARrGghhHhhaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAA"
The largest of these spawn screamed at the night sky as all the others spread out to attack indiscriminately. Magic of various sorts could be heard flung at these abominations, but the sound of bodies being ripped apart and splattering gore was soon followed.

The guards of Fieful rally to the square hoping to defend the civilians, the guards are not enough though. Nightspawn seem to replace those that are exterminated. All while the people of Fieful fell.

Kan figured this Rhewi woman wasn't impressed like the others in the bar, he was about to suggest ways she could make him comfortable when screams pierced the ambiance of the tavern. Fleeing people followed by dark monsters brought Kan to his feet.
Shiki was already ready, about to shout to Phor when he noticed how drunk he was.

"God sent hero's! Defend this bar and all inside!! This Is nightspawn and you aren't ready for them!... stay inside and clear space, be ready for them in here, strength in numbers!"
He was also somewhat drunk and not in a great headspace for a surprise attack. Hell he had somewhere to be, nevertheless shiki considers himself a hero of the people and warped from the doorway into the thick of it. His blade stopping a claw from taking another life.

Kan rushed to the door where shiki was only to be pushed back by a gale force, it looked like someone spray painted archangel black. Huge wings on the back of broad shoulders kept this monster afloat. Claws where it's hands and feet should be, it lands to stalk it's way inside the wretched Wyrven.

Noises in the distance drew Randolf out of his conversation, and he strained his ears to hear better. The sounds got louder, closer, until he could finally hear what they really were: screams. Shiki declared that the foes were nightspawn and disappeared, leaving the "heroes" to survive the attack with nothing but the weapons they had in hand.

Randolf was suddenly very glad he hadn't been drinking.

Kan attempted to run out the door, but was sent backwards into the tavern by an audible rush of air. Randolf could barely make out a shape in the darkness outside as it approached the open door. Mind racing to survive, he took stock of the enemy as quickly as his thoughts would allow. Winged and humanoid. Claws on hands and feet, plus wind gusts. This nightspawn had too many offensive options for a man with a single polearm and no training to handle. Randolf doubted he could beat it alone, or even with both him and Kan, but with more, maybe... His experience with video games had taught him that even the most basic level of coordination can drastically increase the performance of a team. Leaping from his seat to take his damnable position on the front line, Randolf barked a simple order.

"Flank it! Strike from range if you can!"

A loud thud rang out as Randolf knocked over a table as an impromptu shield just a few feet from the entrance. With the sound of wood grinding on wood, Randolf changed his cover's angle to a slant between him and the approaching hostile. While it covered his left side far more than his right, he hoped the slope would prevent any wind from pushing the table back. Clutching his spear tightly, Randolf braced for an attack.

Rhewi let out a deep sigh at all the commotion. As if tonight hadn’t been annoying enough. She stood from her seat and observed for a moment. These were the Nightspawn? What brought them here? She could appreciate their menacing appearance and the fear they caused, but she knew they wouldn’t appreciate her in return. They’d rip her limb from limb without question, therefore, it wouldn’t be wise to sit this fight out. She watched Kan get thrown back and Randolf hide behind a wooden table. “Men, what use are you?” She laughed and walked out in front of the table and before the beast. She pulled her hands back and then pushed them forward, an icy and forceful wind blew from her hands and knocked the Nightspawn backwards out of the door. She gave the air another push, but the creature wasn’t alone. Several more were outside and pushed the creature back in. Unfair fight, it seemed. Instead of wind, a large sharp of glass-like ice flung from her palm like a knife. It sank itself into the chest of the blackened angel and tar-like blood began to ooze from the wound. It let out a shriek and Rhewi sent more ice-knives toward it. The Nightspawn fell to the ground, allowing several more inside to take its place. “Well, fuck.”

The nightspawn struck down by ice seemed to be the only monster slow enough to not attempt self preservation in any form. It died in silence as slightly bigger spawns of the same shape took it's place... Three of them stay in the street suspended in air, it seems they are to big to fly indoors. (Their clawed feet must make it hard to walk)

More humanoid spawn seemed to crawl out from nothing though, as if sensing the frustration of their winged brethren they rush inside the tavern attempting to flush out the living within. Kan had spotted how easily the first fell and took that as a good sign...
Swinging his club like pipe toward an approaching nightspawn, it's claws shattered upon impact and it's arms began to disappear. He proceeded to continue this action with a cocky laugh.

Randolf's spear would find similar success, the blade able to pierce any darkness that moved before it, as more pushed in they are met with God sent weapons...
The people of Fieful are in shock,
"they must have some blessing from the gods! Their weapons smite evil!"

Indeed it seemed easy as Kan and Randolf attacked whatever came close, other weapons seem to lack the instantaneous dissipation effect.
But as the small fry are dealt with the three winged nightspawn outside begin breathing out dark clouds. They flap this dark miasma towards the tavern.

Phor wasn’t drunk enough to be completely useless, but the buzz didn’t make it easy. He squinched his eyes shut and shook himself, trying to snap himself out of it. After chugging some water, the scout ordered people to head for the tavernkeep’s room. His logic was that it was far from the entrances, but he could knot together a sheet rope and flee with the survivors if this proved to be a losing battle.

With the other commoners fleeing deeper into the building, Phor picked up a knife and channeled his mana into it. Once thrown, it flashed and split into several smaller blades, which scattered into the shadowy mob. Sadly, his mana was better for slaughtering orcs than these foul creatures. The miasma made him realize this was the uphill battle he feared. “Shiki, can we teleport all these people to Stronghold?” he shouted, unsure of the guildmaster’s location amidst the chaos.

"shiki gone" Kan yelled to answer Phor. Swinging his club into nightspawn that had been halted by knives, he didn't stop there however. Running through the doorway and rolling under the dark smoke Kan jumped up into a homerun swing of his pipe that knocked one of the flying nightspawn's legs clean off. The other two flew higher out of reach as Kan swung repeatedly to finish of the monster.

The dark cloud remains stationary in the air out front the tavern in a ominous threating manner. Everything about it unworldly.

Shiki had teleported all about Fieful trying to lessen damage and casualties, placing hope in 'God sent souls' having the moxxie to survive and defend that area with holy weapons. He could be wrong though, it seemed only two sprang into any action at the commotion.

Two winged nightspawn remain, flying out of reach of melee weapons. Nightspawn of more human form begin to congregate towards the tavern.
Some drunks run out in a attempt to help Kan! One of them jumped the railing away from the smoke but the other ran through the cloud, he came out the other side like the ones who breathed it. A winged nightspawn flew out of the cloud and into the night "Barry?!!" His comrade called before being dragged down and mauled by monsters.

These monsters proceed to mob inside the tavern now that only Randolf, Rhewi and Phor are attempting meaningful defence.
Kan outside swinging his weapon doing oddly well, to any with any experience it would be obvious God sent weapons have a holy element to them, dealing with Nightspawn the same way a concentrated beam of light would.
Speaking of, Sarrd was doing just that as he ran about town. His mana being a great help eradicating the spawn... He hadn't reached this area though.

It was up to the guild and it's new God sent apprentices to save the tavern and it's many drunken patrons.
Elyse, Jack, and Kholis are tackled to the ground by nightspawn
(Not at the same time mind you)
Just barely avoiding fatal damage from night black claws.

The situation inside the tavern deteriorated with remarkable speed. A flashy display by the snow woman killed one enemy but let multiple into the tavern. Thankfully, Randolf's spear proved lethal against the darkness, but Kan and two patrons rushed outside - perhaps to their deaths.

A wide-open tavern door wasn't helping matters, but to close the entrance off completely would just encourage the horde to seek other ways inside. Control of their flow would be best accomplished by making the door into a dangerous choke point. A few heaving pulls and several disintegrating foes later, Randolf dragged his table-shield across the entryway. The portal to the interior had been reduced to a small gap between the upper edge of the table and the top of the door frame. Allies and civilians were still outside, but so were the nightspawn. Randolf wasn't going to risk the lives of everyone inside on the off-chance that the others returned. If they made it back, they'd just have to climb over the barrier.

However, the defense hadn't been placed in the timeliest manner. This tavern was already full of fiends, and the remaining otherworlders were down. The Wretched Wyvern needed to be cleared out immediately, or there would be death. Preventable death. The kind of death Randolf had been taught never to allow. Randolf's weapon would be great at eliminating the dark creatures within the building, but - Randolf stabbed above him to kill an invader - it would be foolish to leave the door unguarded.

"Ice queen, keep an eye on the door!"

This was no time to ask politely for cooperation. It was clear that she could force the nightspawn back, and the gap needed to be covered. With no choice but to trust that she would play along, Randolf sprinted into the melee, slicing at any monster in his range.

Rhewi’s hands began to glisten like ice in the sunshine, she pushed them toward the door and let out a blast of cold air and water in an attempt to freeze the nightspawn. If they were able to be frozen, she could simply shatter the beings. This fight was tedious and way more than what she wanted to deal with. She was caught between trying to help these poor townsfolk and ‘godly’ heroes, and jumping out a back window and disappearing in the cool breeze. She didn’t like this stranger giving her instructions.

The name Ice Queen was humorous, but showed just how little this man knew of her. To be giving her orders was disrespectful, she stopped for a moment in contemplation. Should be punish him and let the creatures in? After a sigh, the small humanity within her took over and sent a large un-wielding blast of air and icicles toward the door. It would be enough to knock a few back and perhaps stab into them.
Emotions were tedious and she didn't appreciate the urge to protect them, perhaps she herself was scared? Rhewi didn't allow herself in the indulgence of fear very often. "Come on, 'chosen ones', actually do something to stop this."

Elyse has been standing there, shocked at the creatures of darkness crawling their way out of whatever pit they came from, after watching sheepishly from the sidelines for a few precious seconds, she wills herself into action. she was taken here to save people right?

palming her gun, she pushes through the crowd towards the tavern door, and seeing it be iced up, she takes place slightly behind and to the left of this "ice queen".
she takes aim at the door, lining up a shot very carefully, and pulls the trigger on the closest dark being.*click* Nothing happens, and she looks down at her weapon in disbelief, before it finally registers in her mind that she doesnt have ammo.

great. now all she has to rely on is her electricity, which she cant even fire yet! all she can do is administer it through touch or shoot tiny sparks which she was sure would do nothing.

holstering her gun, she advances towards the dark things. she reaches out and grabs one by the face, as it struggles and slashes at her, she unleashes her mana into it without much control, not particularly sure how this works.

the being crackles and disintigrates in a lightning filled explosion, arcs of lighting shooting between the particles, herself and several of the darkwraiths being pushed backwards bythe blast.

lesson learned, best to at least TRY to control the voltage.

As Elyse uad been grabbed and pushed to the floor as she put her mana into tye spawn by the face as it slashed at her, she is wounded badly and bleeding from the face.
(hopefully someone has a potion or healing magic)
Her electricity doing harm to herself and one monster gave the impression she would be better off swinging the butt of her gun at these dark creatures. God given weapons and all. But alas she is kinda down.

Kholis and jack appeared to be dead, tackled and gutted in moments.
Randolph inside the tavern, stabbing what was close and calling the shots somewhat.
Kan in the street slaying any nightspawn in reach,
Rhewi and Phor sending a small assistance into the oncoming mass of darkness...
The nightspawn in the tavern fell easily to God weapons and died to fatal wounds otherwise... they have a moment of reprieve as the dark monsters seem to lessen.

The Two winged nightspawn float closer to the ground in the street, attempting to push the dark cloud into the building with their flapping wings. Kan is unable to reach them as he is fighting countless nightspawn between his target, of course if he shouted out for help it might have saved the day... Kan isn't a leader or vocal sort sadly.
The cloud slowly ebbs towards the wretched Wyrven, surely dooming any who breathe that darkness in.

The spear passed through another enemy. Shadow lost its stability, then its shape. Looking left, then right, Randolf confirmed that no more nightspawn remained, at least for the moment. Next, to make sure the others were okay-

Then he saw the fallout. Two casualties, Kholis and Jack, blood and guts scattered around them. Randolf had only just learned their names that night; hell, he'd only met them that day. It was enough to make someone vomit. But Randolf couldn't afford to. The assault wasn't over yet. Demons still prowled the streets, and he couldn't falter until the civilians had survived - or rather, until as many as he could defend had made it. Randolf's attention turned to Elyse. She was alive, but wounded badly. He immediately considered first aid. This was a tavern. Alcohol is a useful, if painful, disinfectant. No, hunting down a drink would take to long while the tavern isn't secure. What could he do?

Suddenly, it hit him. Early this morning, when Sarrd described his abilities. 'You can heal wounds with dirt', the fox had told him. He had received no training in the use of his divine power, but if his intuition was right, it shouldn't be much different from using his mana. The problem was his lack of material to work with. As a tavern in a city, the Wretched Wyvern might well have a cellar beneath it. But that meant the only reliable source for dirt would be...

"Dammit," Randolf cursed. It began under his breath, but rapidly rose to a roar. "Goddammit all! Watch your fire, Snowglobe! I'm going out there!"

He sprinted to the entrance and clambered over his barricade, thrusting wildly at the enemies in the darkness. Only on the other side of the door did he catch a glimpse of the situation outside. That black smog was sure to be dangerous, but Kan wasn't getting anywhere! Guard the opening, heal Elyse, push through to the winged ones - why was there so much to do?!

No, Randolf couldn't afford to get overwhelmed. Indecision here would immobilize him, and likely prove fatal. Prioritize and act. The chokepoint could be guarded effectively by those within. First, help Kan. Then, quickly gather some dirt, with Kan providing defense. Finally, retreat within and heal Elyse, then defend the tavern until the horde is gone. Yes, that should do. With a course of action set, Randolf flung himself into the fray beside Kan.
