Fantasy Cursed Island

"What's a 'capacity'?", that word wasn't in Jeri's vocabulary. Actually, no one knew what was in her vocabulary, it was basically a hodge-podge of Jerry's and whatever she could pick up on.

Niudisa sighed as she worked some magic. "I don't have my dictionary. It's not important, for now." She managed to patch the injury. It wasn't completely fixed, but he at least wouldn't be slowed down too bad by it. She fluttered away before giving another command. "Alright, do a flip." Urothrall made an honest attempt but only managed to flop onto his back.

"What's a 'dictionary'?" New words for the shade, new words. Urothrall's failed flip shook the ground, even waking Veo up. The minotaur poked her head out of the tent confused and rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, head covered in plants like some kind of overgrown treant sapling.

"What's going on?", Veo yawned, she looked around and decided it wasn't something that needed her attention, "Keep it down," and she ducked back into the tent.

“It’s a book of words.” Niudisa watched as Urothrall got back up. “Agility is not his strong point.”

"Oh," Jeri sounded a little disappointed that there wasn't an explanation she could understand, there, but was less afraid of Urothrall now she knew what he was, coming up and sniffing at him, but Jerry's body only had a human's sense of smell and all she got was the smell of a rotting corpse.

Niudisa looked over at Jeri. "Anyway, we're currently just waiting around here for now, so get comfortable."

"Why are we waiting?", Jeri hadn't gotten that bit of information, either.

"Cuz your paladin's a wimp bitch," Emera giggled, "And your healer's even weaker!"

Niudisa pointed to Urothrall, paying no attention to Emera. "This guy gave us a fight before he died, so a few people need to heal before we can get moving. And Adran passed out again, so I'm waiting on him to help deal with another problem."

"If you listen carefully, you might here this loud, annoying voice from somewhere over there." Niudisa pointed directly at Emera. "We need to find a way to shut it up, but some complications make it so we can't just kill it like normal things."

“We’re kinda short on things to stick in there, I think.” Niudisa glanced around. “Hm....”

Jerry tried to think of a solution for that. She didn't have anything she could think of that could be used for that purpose, and it didn't even occur to her that other people's stuff wasn't a part of their body.

“Maybe Erina can use a rock and some silk to make a makeshift gag...” She looked over at the tree Jerry had been previously tied to. “She needs to fix that rope, too.”

Jerry frowned at that. "Why a rock?" She looked down at the ground, even the smallest loose stones were hand-sized, they wouldn't possibly fit in Emera's mouth.

“Because it would be terribly uncomfortable to have that shoved between her jaws.” Niudisa turned and started heading toward where Erina was. “Emil, you’re not a fighter. Bring that rope.” She glanced back at Jeri. “Unless you’d rather do it.”

Jeri nodded and scurried over towards the rope, taking the largest part Jerry had separated and dragging it back. It hadn't occured to her that she could coil it up, or that there could be more of it she should have gotten as well.

Emil volunteered himself to help, picking up the other half of rope and following after them. Niudisa picked up a rock along the way, holding it in both hands and flying lower than usual on account of the weight.

Erina was still by her loom, resting for the moment. Laying nearby was a neatly folded scarf.

Whilst the fairy and the bard and the shade were gone, Emera began figuring out what to do about Niudisa's magic binds. She could see their makeup, that was how she was able to see what was working against Jerry. Now that she was recovering her mana, she could access some of her fiendish abilities to solve this problem.
--------------------------------------
"Oh!", Jeri remembered the spider-lady! "Hi, Erina!"

The bindings were enchanted, of course. Any magic used by whoever was bound by them would be blocked, it seemed. The limits of this block were hard to tell without experimentation.

—————

Erina looked over at them. “Oh, hello. It sounded like there was quite the commotion.”

Niudisa nodded. “Emera made some trouble. Your rope got cut, so it needs to be fixed. I also need you to turn this rock into a gag.”

Erina blinked. “...excuse me?”

"Huh," that could be an issue, Emera had initially intended to shapeshift into something smaller and scrabble out of dodge. But if the bindings blocked magic... hmm. Theoretically, Emera had a larger amount of mana available, there were loose souls everywhere around her, mostly animal. She could try to outlast Niudisa's mana pool, force the fairy to drain her own mana by burning her own. Adran recovered mana quickly because of the structure of his pack, but most mages had a longer cooldown on their mana recovery. Even if Niudisa's pool was massive, in this dead forest Emera was surrounded by free mana. "Yes," Emera grinned, and went with that plan, burning her mana against Niudisa's. This far from her thrall, the fairy probably couldn't command the zombie to do anything about it.
-------------------------------------
"She wants to put a rock in Emera's mouth!", Jeri piped up, "She wants her to stop talking!"

The bindings glowed when their enchantment blocked magic, so of course that drew Shuffle’s attention, leading her to watch curiously.

—————

“Ah, alright then. I’ll do that first and then work on the rope.”

Niudisa set the rock down close to her before fluttering back up.

Erina picked up the rock and started working her silk around it.

Shuffle could be useful if charmed, but unless she got free, Emera couldn't accomplish that, so she paid Shuffle no heed while she kept burning mana.

-------------
Jeri quickly got bored, watching Emera weave, and found her attention wandering to the scarf on the ground. She went over and picked up the fabric, confused as to what it was. "What's this?"

Shuffle sat as she just kept staring.

—————

Erina glanced over but kept working. “That’s a scarf. It’s meant to be worn around the neck as an additional means of staying warm.”
