Sun Clan
Mood: anxious
status: preparing the kingdom for its first royal meeting.

The sun was reaching its highest point and the waters began to warm. It was mid-spring and the ocean was busy with excitement. The whales had just migrated through a couple of weeks ago and the winter guard had taken this time to rest and recuperate. The palace was busy with preparations. Despite there thoughts on the Moon Clan , the Sun Clan always tries to make a good impression during these meetings. Food has always been tricky and usually takes days to prepare. It was no feast by any means, but moons' do not partake in dishes and preparations. They catch it, they eat it. Obviously there will be no live creature eating today.

This meeting was mandatory. The suns' were usually aware of who the future rulers were going to be. But since the moon clan did not believe in birth rights there is little to no knowledge of who the future king/queen is until they are announced, a first impressions was called for. No one really knew what to except from these meetings. After the disappearance of Queen Esther everyone was hopeful of the future. No one could be worse than her, and it's rumored that this new queen was young. Young was good, perhaps she would not be as stubborn as most of them are. They had survived the worse and believed in there new king and Queen to guide them towards the rising sun.

King Kyoya
Mood : relaxed
status: Relaxing in his chambers
Interactions: Open for royals only

Gan
Mood: busy
status: tending to the orcas
Interactions: Guards

She was glad to be back, the warm waters were comforting. She had expected to find an absolute mess in the arctic region, there was no more than usual. At the moment she was checking the charms for corruption. Sun Clan do not usually use sea creatures in there everyday endeavors, not wanting to upset the balance of nature. Sometimes though nature provides a beautiful opportunity. There were twelve orcas that accompanied the guard on migrations. These beast were orphaned calves with no pod and no chance of survival on their own. It was King Kyoya's bloodline that started this practice ages ago. Orcas have a higher resistance to dark magic second only to mermaids. Even still they must be checked for any signs of corruption. There were eight taken this time, three more than normal. And the winter guard was examining them carefully before allowing them to go join the others.

Moon Clan
Mood: alert

Skipper Skipper eyyliner eyyliner AncientBird AncientBird Huntertabbysandshark3 Huntertabbysandshark3 Cosmos Cosmos

It was midday, meaning that most the clan was out surveying warm waters. For those that were remaining in there true form they gathered themselves in the large hidden cave system that the moons' called home. Guards were in place in the neighboring reefs, but it was everyone's duty to alert anyone of signs of outsiders. Some of the more adventurous younger mermaids have ventured off to the outskirts of their territory to the explore the sunken ships. It was a quiet day families and friends reuniting and saying their goodbyes. Workers were always on the move, their duties usually meant sometimes following around sea creatures and ships for days. It was always busy in shifter clan territory, night or day it didn't matter. This morning, the whole clan found themselves wide awake, The previous sun clan, Queen Harmony had been dead for over a year now and two months ago Queen Talori had taken her place. It was around this time that Queen Esther went missing, but she had named Kiva as future queen. Kiva made an appearance a couple of years ago, It shocked everyone when Esther found company in a timid little mermaid. She was assumed the daughter of Esther and was kept away from the clan. Even tho she had no royal position she was treated and feared the same as the King and Queen. She was now the crown queen, and any appearances she made was rare and cherished. She was a child still, though they feared and respected her the clan felt more of a need to protect her. Shifter queens have a strong effect on there clan members. The clan was more hostile than they usually are, Kiva was there legacy. Her safety was the most important thing to them right now they all awaited the day she would grow into adulthood.

Queen Kiva
Mood: calm
Status: in the ruins
Interactions: Pelag, open to Royals only.

Kiva sat upon the rocks of what was left of the structure, looking out at the ocean through a window. This place was comforting, she did not know why. The royals were often left alone , most commoners were satisfied with watching from afar. When Kiva came here, even before the crowning, it was clear that she did not want to be bothered. Of course no workers have approached her anyway. She chuckled, thinking about what her mother would have done if a common merperson approached her wanting to chat. The thought tickled her immensely and she began to laugh to herself, probably surprising the poor guard that accompanied her. This behavior was never seen with Queen Esther, but Kiva was younger than the previous ruler. She would never do this in public, but even though she was not entirely by herself, she did feel alone here. Kiva watched as some mermaids her age swam through the ruins on there way to work the reefs, or possible hunt. What would it have been like if her mother had allowed her to have friends. She had companions, mainly Jewl and Malu. They were a lot older than her but they were the only ones she ever really spoke too. After her crowning she went back into seclusion to mourn her mother. The clan had went one month without a queen, all of them hoping that Esther would return. With no queen the workers went into overdrive, when frightened the clan would work constantly, it was the only thing they could do. Gather food but not eat it, clean the caves over and over but never sleep, swim around patrolling for days without a break. It was dark times, and Kiva accepted the crown in hopes to make her mother proud. Still, she was young. The clan was back in working order but everyone one was so keen on protecting her. In all honesty she could not give a single order from now until her adulthood and the clan would love her just the same, in fact they probably expected it. Kiva was not satisfied in sitting back and being watched over. It was her job to worry about them and things were gonna change now. The sun clan had been slacking off on there duties. Tainted magic was now rampant in the ocean, the harmony was off balance. This meeting was important, standards had to be discussed. It was her first time doing something queen like. She hadn't even had a single conversation with the prince or princess yet. She looked behind her to where one of the guards stood watch over her. She hasn't talked to anyone in her clan actually, queen Esther was never seen mingling with anyone besides Kiva and the other royals. Maybe that was how it was supposed to be, is that what they wanted? They clan already adored her, she was the queen after all it was instinctively driven in them. Even still, she wanted to make them happy. She realized she was starting at the guard for too long, eye contact would make him uncomfortable she turned and continued to look out the window.

Pelag hovered as he guarded the newly crowned queen of moon clan. Pelag normally would be patrolling the reef at this time of day, however it was a surprise for him that he was honored to serve the new queen personally this day.

The new queen, named Kiva was much younger than the late Queen Esther who had mysteriously disappeared months ago. She was very young, way too young for a such an important role... Pelag was not born yet when Queen Esther was crowned, but he could definitely guess that most queens before Kiva were much older when they receive their title.

Like any children would expected to be, Kiva seemed naive and innocent. She kept looking out of the window to see the workers on their usual routine, sometimes giggled at something Pelag didn’t even know. She hadn’t interacted with him much, just simply staring occasionally, let alone talking to him. Pelag didn’t crave any attention from her either... Despite being a young fry, Queen Kiva was still a queen. Pelag could feel her radiating the essence that presents in most merfolks of a royal worth... It’s dominating, dangerous and uncontested... Yet valuable and reverend, making even the powerful predator like him covering and kneeling before her presence.

Pelag kept hovering idly as time passed. This was a honorable job that he was willing to do his best, yet it was rather boring. Pelag started thinking of his foster family... The king guards. For a long time that they hadn’t appeared back in the colony, probably still patrolling the outer reach of the territory as usual. Without them, Pelag’s life wasn’t much of an excitement. Everyday, he wakes up, patrols, citizens makes way for him as he passes by, he hunts, he eats and returns to his resting place and repeat. He could counted how many sentences he had spoken to someone in the past several months... At least if the king guards paid a visit, he could hear some interesting stuff from the land beyond the border that Fema, leader of the king guards and his foster mother would share with him. He could spar with Malik, who was like his uncle and also perhaps bickered with Took, his blood-thirsty foster sister... Anything that was better than this solitude.

Ariadne looked at all the papers in front of her and sighed loudly. A scowl could be visible on her face as she scanned the paperwork over and over again for any mistakes. She fell back in her chair and closed her eyes running a hand through her blond hair. She was grateful that she was alone at a time like that because for sure nobody would've want to see her in this state. She usually gets the work done quickly and without much problems, but this time the work just kept doubling over the past days. With the Clans meeting just around the corner everyone was anxious and frantic. That's why she slowed her work a little bit so she would be able to listen and help any merperson in need. She made sure that the preparations were going smoothly and that everything is ready for the arrival of the Moon Clan. It had been over a 100 year since the last meeting but she surely didn't missed that in the slightest, even if she wasn't born at that time. All the noise and bright light were hurting her and irked her greatly, but she just had to keep smiling. The sounds could've easily dealt with, but the light..... her eyes just can't get some rest. It surely doesn't help that the Sun began shining even brighter, but at least she weather is much better.
She opened her eyes to take in her surrounding again. She will have to get out of her 'office' and make sure that everything is how it's suppose to be. Amd then after that maybe check on the Queen and the King. She needs a change of scenery for sure. After that she would be able to finish all the work...at least that's what she hoped. It had been a while since she felt so strange, but this shouldn't make her efficiency to decrease.
She lightly slapped her cheeks and put a gentle smile on her face as she walked out of the room. The guards were in their places, exactly how it was supposed to be. Her papers were secured in a file under her arm as she made her way through the corridors. She could almost hear the children's laughing in the distance, though it was possible only for her. She smiled slightly more at the thought of them enjoying their youth. Children surely are the most beautiful and lucky people. Innocent and pure, don't have any fake or ill intentions. They are the true version of the Sun, while enjoying their life.
She missed that times. She never was one that would love with all her heart festivals, eveniments or any meetings unless having someone dear to her by her side. Her people needed her though so she would ignore her discomfort and displeasure. She tried to make sure that nobody feels alone or sad at all because she wants to see them happy and healthy. This hasn't been possible for her at all since then, but she would just continue managing the well being of her clan and hoped that someday she would truly smile once again. She will try to do her best just as 'he' used to do it.Maybe that's also one of the reasons she ignored her paperwork and displeasure, she doesn't want anyone to feel as empty as her.

Oxyrin darted in and around the wrecked ship, slipping between support beams and through rotting holes in the hull. Despite the speed, she had no trouble keeping an eye on both her surroundings and the fry courageous enough to venture this far from the caverns. Admittedly, there wasn't much going on. The day had been quiet so far and Oxyrin was taking full advantage. On top of patrolling the outskirts of Moon Clan territory, she was also minding the younglings, searching for suitable pieces of scrap metal to fashion into spare scythe heads, and practicing her maneuverability. To the fry, she likely wasn't visible at all considering the speed she was going, but she'd made a bit of a show of her arrival just so they knew the strange currents were actually her wake. The activity helped take the edge off her frustration, but only just. She knew it was useless to feel that way, especially since there were actually pertinent issues the Moon Clan had to work out with the Sun Clan. It didn't make her feel any better about letting her young queen, still a fry herself, leave the safety of the territory. And to meet with their enemies no less. It grated on her instincts in a way that was almost painful.

Turning suddenly, Oxyrin's bladed tail slashed harshly through the soft, wooden hull of the ship, leaving a clean scar in the once pockmarked but solid surface. Darting out of the ship, she took a quick lap around the area, making sure there were other guards nearby to keep an eye on things. Technically, it wasn't part of her current duties to patrol the outskirts, but she was fast enough she could make it back to the cavern should the need arise, and preparations for Queen Kiva's departure were practically complete. There simply wasn't that much to do at this point, and while normally that would be enough to grate on her, the added stress and worry about the meeting made relaxing an impossibility. But she couldn't just stay out here either. Normally she loved looking after the fry. They were always so energetic and curious, and it made her feel more secure knowing someone was looking after the most vulnerable members of the clan. Her instincts were calling her back though, she had to stay by the queen, just in case. It didn't matter that Pelag was already with her, more security could only be a good thing.

The queen had only requested Pelag accompany her though, and while young, Oxyrin could recognize a skill and dedication in him she admired. There was no reason for her to rush back to the cave system, especially when her purpose for doing so was in violation of her queen's wishes. Baring her teeth in a frustrated snarl, Oxyrin circled the closest ship and tried to get her warring instincts under control. It didn't matter if she felt like she needed to protect the queen. The queen had protection, she was deep in the heart of Moon Clan territory with a competent guard at her side, and she hadn't requested any more company besides. It was fine for Oxyrin to stay out at the wrecks and watch the fry, there was no harm and plenty of good to it with no valid reason to return. Mind made up, though uncomfortable about it, Oxyrin resumed her patrol, shifting into her shark form and picking up speed. Maybe if she did enough other things, it would put her concerns out of mind, at least until there was something she could do about them.

The new queen of the Sun Clan seemed calm, but she definitely wasn't. She was freaking out inside.
Talori's first two months after coronation had been going well so far, but now, it was almost time for the meeting and she was extremely anxious. She kept reminding herself that this was important to do correctly, but it wasn't helping her calm down. Her scales had turned a pretty flaming orange color as they usually did when she was trying to control certain emotions. Talori kept bringing forth scales on her arms and hands. It was her way of calming her nerves. Talori's ability was pretty special. No one else before her had ever had the ability to use their scales as armor and clothing of sorts.

Currently, Talori was figuring out what pattern of scales to wear to the meeting. Should she change the color of her tail to purple and then just leave her upper-body scales light blue?
Eventually, a simple yet formal pattern was what she decided on. Light blue scales coiled around her arms like a snake for sleeves and Talori called forth more in the pattern of a bikini top to make herself decent.

Talori regained control over the color of her scales and the ones on her tail turned to a soothing lavender shade, which typically happened when she was calm.

She was so not calm.

galarn had been carrying out his orders with the normal, with his stone-cold expression across his face as he slowly swam his patrol route as ordered although he was getting... bored... and then he got distracted by a cute little shark, seeing as there wasn't exactly much to do it couldn't hurt. his features quickly softening, seems a good deal more childish than before following the shark and then booping it on the noise although he ended up around the wreaks on the outskirts... oh this wasn't that good... especially since galarn could see oxyrin his superior "greeting..." he said a little sheepishly

Mei was busy tending to the reef's animals as usual, her hands gently caressing the tendrils of seaweed around her bringing out the small fish who lived inside them with a soft smile and chuckle, some coming to nuzzle her whilst more fearful ones stayed a tad further away, it was quiet out here. Most others were cleaning the caves today or on patrol. However the sudden presence of another workers scowl at her from a distance left her ducking too behind the coral like the young fishes she was trying to help. A hand instinctively went to her stomach, gently resting on the somewhat noticeable bump. "... I love you" She whispered under her breath to both reassure herself and the life inside her, after all. She- was the only one who did.

Once the other worker had moved on she continued throughout the areas, guiding out small fish to join their schools and helping them should they get lost on their way further up in the water. She hadn't noticed just how far she'd gone when she arrived at what appeared to be a shipwreck, but worse than that it appeared to have two guards within it. Tensing she turned to quickly swim away, but her tail got caught on a sharp rock causing a scratch and a small amount of blood to pool into the water along with a short hiss like sound coming from her lips in pain. "oops-" she stuttered, glancing back hoping they hadn't heard her.

After all to them it'd just look like she was slacking off coming to the wrecks when she should be working, something she didn't need on top of her already shunned status.

At the sheepish greeting, Oxyrin slowed to a lazy glide, shifting back into her mermaid form and circling around the newcomer. It was Galarn, presumably distracted from his duties again. She didn't know what his problem was, but he was always wandering off where he wasn't supposed to be, shirking his duties in the process. Following a cute sea creature, his chief excuse, was really no excuse at all, but trying to get him to focus on his work for an entire shift was turning out to be an exercise in futility. Normally his tendency to abandon post was annoying, but not dangerous. He was a competent fighter after all and was serious when the situation called for it, not that it made up for his penchant for distraction, but it at least made it less nerve wracking. He was reliable when he needed to be, she just wished he'd be reliable all the time. As it was she wasn't in the mood for him right that moment. Usually she could handle him with a little more tact and a lot more disappointment. Right now, she was just angry.

Stopping in front of him, she said, "Galarn," voice hard and stern, gearing up for a not undeserved lecture. "What are you doing out here? You were supposed to be patrolling closer to the caverns. Do you know how irresponsible this is? The entire clan is relying on us to keep them safe, to detect threats coming into or moving through our territory, and the only way we can do that effectively is if everyone is following their assigned routes. What were you going to do if someone got hurt or, goddess forbid it, died? Do you really think a 'sorry, I was distracted' is going to be okay? I have half a mind to-"

She cut off suddenly. Circling again, Oxyrin tried to determine what direction the scent of fresh blood was coming from. It wasn't from the wreck itself, that much was certain, which helped to ease her worry just a bit. That meant it likely wasn't any of the fry, but the smell was distinctly mer, indicating that someone was hurt. It took her another moment to pinpoint the direction, but then she was off like a shot, putting her considerable speed to use. Times like this made her glad for her gifts. She wasn't particularly strong, at least not compared to some of the other guards, but she was fast and maneuverable, and sometimes that made all the difference. Currently, her top priority was reaching the bleeding mer quickly, in case their injury was more severe than she thought. She'd deal with Galarn later.

As the strength of the scent came to a head, Oxyrin slowed but continued to circle until she spotted the source. It was indeed a young mer, obviously Moon Clan and old enough to be an adult, but just barely. It took her longer than she liked to admit to actually recognize who it was. Oxyrin had heard of Mellownis, though they'd never met in person. She supposed they just didn't occupy the same social circles, especially since Oxyrin had been promoted to Prince. She'd heard plenty of things about Mellownis alright, but none of it had been good. Oxyrin was self aware enough to recognize she judged the girl. There were too many unknowns surrounding her pregnancy for her, as the Prince and thus in charge of security, to simply take it as it was. It wasn't the pregnancy itself that bothered her, though she did think Mellownis was perhaps too young. More so it was her unwillingness to say anything about it. She had a tendency to pry, she knew, and perhaps it wasn't any of her business how the young girl found herself in this situation, but she still yearned to know. Mellownis's seeming acceptance of her situation, when a simple explanation might solve the issue, didn't sit well with Oxyrin. It brought her to the possibility that the explanation would only make everyone hate the girl more, that perhaps there was something more sinister about her to watch out for. So yes, Oxyrin judged Mellownis, was suspicious of her, but she was still Moon Clan, and in accordance with her status, Oxyrin had a responsibility to the health and safety of everyone in the clan.

"What are you doing out here? Do you need help getting back to the cavern?" She tried to keep her voice low and gentle but wasn't sure if it worked. Talking to others outside of a professional environment had never come easily to her. Her shifter form made her powerful and predatory, and even within her own clan others tended to avoid her if they could. Casual conversation, let alone actual comfort, was never something she'd had to get good at.

Queen Kiva
mood: somber/frighten
status: In the ruins
AncientBird AncientBird

Queen Kiva's laughter faded, the memory of her mother brought both comfort and pain. Don't cry, hold it together...you can do this. Kiva hid her face in her lap, she missed her, Queen Esther was the only thing she loved, her only source of happiness and she was gone. Queen Esther's departure had left everyone feeling remorseful, most felt as though left to soon, Kiva believed that she left the fate of the clan in wrong hands. She was nothing like her mother, her mother was strong she never needed magic to prove that. Kiva was young, and unable to defend herself. She was always to be guarded, ever since she could remember she was constantly being protected. What about her was so special, her mother said that she alone could bring the sun clan to its knees, but how? She lifted her head just in time to see a disoriented tiger shark darting towards them. The queen let out a scream falling down unto the sand bed as the disturbed sharked rammed into the glass window. Animals were never really fond of there kind, to sea creatures these mermaids were either competition or predator. For a shark to come out of its way to show aggression could only be the result of dark magic.

Took was delightfully chasing one of the orphans into the ship, he had wandered a little to far to the border and she had no problems harming children. This time though Took was hunting so she only gave little chase the young one before continuing on her way. She paused for a moment when she noticed the gathering of shifters in the area. She approached the group remaining in her animal form as she circled around them. The prince was among them but it did not stop her threatening display. Technically Took answers to Oxryin, and technically she didn’t care. She shifted out of her beast form and flashed a cruel grin at Mei. “Are we playing games?” Took was probably the worst tormentor of Mellownis. The new queen had yet to make a position on the mermaids fate, Kiva probably didn’t realize she existed. That uncertainty was both a curse and a blessing. Mellowins could use that to ward off possible attacks, but it also meant some of the bolder mermaids would take delight in tormenting her. It was no doubt that if Took got her alone she would probably kill her. “Should you not be gathering guards to accompany the Queen?” She asked Oxryin while she tugged Mei by her hair. “Surely Galarn should stay here, keep an eye on princess. The kings guard is capable of gathering up the stragglers.” Took was not one for formalities, but she purposely refused them for Oxryin, perhaps testing her reaction , maybe she did not see the prince fit for her title. Took was half mad, you couldn’t put either option past her.

Pelag sprang into the action just as the tiger shark rammed against the glass. He swam between the window and Queen Kiva without hesitation.

“Take cover, my queen. This beast means harm!” He exclaimed, eyes not turning away from the shark as it circled, prepared for another attack. Pelag hovered there with his dual daggers readied to fight if thing went out of control. Tiger shark is considered dangerous, but they rarely attack a merfolks first unless being provoked... This one however, came out of its way to threaten them.

Pelag prepared himself as he watched the shark kept ramming the window, crack started to spread the entire piece of glass and it would soon shatter...

The shark made another strike and it went right through the glass window. The beast targeted the seemingly weakest individual, the queen herself... However, it didn’t get to go too far. With his powerful arms, Pelag wrestled down the shark. He growled furiously and tried to hold the beast in place. The shark thrashed, tried to turn and bite its adversary, however Pelag knew its move well, it was what he trained for.

In that moment, the merman pulled his force and finally flipped the shark up side down. He held it down for a bit until the shark stopped thrashing. It wasn’t dead but underwent a comatose state... This was a trick he learnt from Fema herself, a shark would be easily dispatched if they are turned belly up...

Pelag then drove his dagger into the creature’s soft belly, killed it in an instant. He the turned toward the cowering young queen. Pelag felt pity for her and he slowly approached, trying to be as gentle as possible. He knelt down before her and spoke smoothly.

“The danger is eliminated, my queen. But the blood will attract more predators here. May I ask you permission to bring you to a more secured place and call in more guards to make you feel safer?”

Mei let out a small internal sigh and tightened her muscles as she noticed who came, not only a guard- but the prince at that. She could practically feel the others judgement seeping out into the water around her, chocking the young female like entangled in a trap. As the other spoke however, she could tell they tried to speak softly, and perhaps even a little gentle in mannerism. A small yet still significant smile graced her lips at this as she gave an awkward shrug and chuckle, rubbing at the back of her hair whilst her colorful lower half continued to bleed a little from the mark.

"I-I think I'll be fine. I don't want to trouble you after all- neither do I want your reputation sullied." She let out with a nod, whispering the latter section with a kind-hearted expression on her face trying to hide the pain behind it. Not from the injury, but from wanting the help so desperately, but not allowing it for worry of the others name. After all, having someone even bother to ask if she was okay as of late was more than enough.

It was then she spotted something that made her blood curdle, Took. As the fellow shifter changed to her mer form and gave a devilish grin the words struck her coldly, "A-A game?" she stuttered, before she could get another word in her hair was being yanked backwards to the point of her letting out a wince and small gasp in pain, eyes tearing up a little.

However she didn't fight back, after all she knew not to fight the other by this point, it only made more pain. Perhaps to others it seemed as though part of her accepted this due to being guilty of whatever their stares tried to convey, but really- she was.... just scared, scared of what they'd do if they found out for sure of what she'd done, and at the same time too scared to run away.

Walking through the long corridor she left a relieved sigh. Everything was in place for the meeting. A few problems here and there, but nothing major that couldn't be done. She ticked a few things on her list as she muttered under her breath what's next to do. She still needs to make sure a few thing are ready, but that can wait.
She let a tired smile reach her face as she swept a hand through her gold locks. So many things to do and literally such little time.
It was a bright and nice day, surprisingly putting her in a good mood.
'If he would had been here only....' a melancolic vibe surrounded her as she quietly muttered but she brushed it off quickly.
'I should see the Queen next... Maybe she's feeling stressed as everyone else. Maybe she needs help with something....' .
She changed her direction as that idea hit her. She needs to make sure everyone is alright. And after that she can relax maybe even a little bit. She giggled like a child at her thoughts randomly surprising herself. She was grateful that nobody was around to see her. That would've been weird as she doesn't give much of a reaction unless needed for the 'show'.
' I'm doing all of this and then I can relax with my aromatic therapy, right?!? '
Delighted with the idea she made her way to the Queen's chamber.

Oxyrin bared her teeth unconsciously when Took appeared. The two of them had never gotten along, even when Oxyrin had still been new to the guard. Her bloodthirsty attitude and delight in hurting other members of the clan made her unfit to act as a protector in Oxyrin's mind, and strong or not, she didn't think Took deserved the position afforded to her. If all she was going to do was bully shifters too weak to fight back, she shouldn't have been allowed near anyone in the first place. It raised the question of where Fema was, and why she wasn't keeping a closer eye on Took when the other king's guard knew she had a tendency toward violence. She'd have to have a talk with Fema later too, it seemed, but right now, she had bigger problems.

When Took grabbed Mellownis by the hair, Oxyrin saw red. In truth, she didn't really care for the girl. They had only just met and Oxyrin had reservations about her that were not so easily forgotten, but she was still of the Moon Clan, and until Queen Kiva saw fit to pass judgement, that wasn't going to change. Also, Took had a tendency to enrage her just by existing. She swam forward, putting herself between Took and Mellownis, one arm raised to put the sharp edge of her pectoral fin at Took's throat, the other angled to put that blade at the wrist holding Mellownis. She leaned forward slightly, allowing the lethal edge to draw blood. It ballooned hazily between them and only served to rile Oxyrin further. The threat was implicit, but no less clear. If Took didn't release her, she'd be losing that hand and possibly her head. Under normal circumstances she wouldn't have even considered depriving her clan of a competent guard, but she was angry and worried and had dealt with far too much malarkey already. She also hated Took.

Black eyes trained on Took, conveying to her all the fury and disdain she felt. Without looking elsewhere, Oxyrin called out, "Galarn, gather up the fry and bring them back to the cavern. If you see the other king's guards, tell Fema I need to have words with her." Softening her voice some, but still brooking no argument, she spoke to Mellownis, "You will accompany me back to the caverns." Whatever reservations the younger shifter had about following her were less important than her safety. As it was, there was no way Oxyrin could, in good conscious, leave her out here with Took.

After all that stressing out, Talori needed to calm her nerves a bit more, so she decided to swim out to a reef she had discovered nearby. Just as she was leaving her chambers, though, she spotted Ariadne coming towards her. Immediately her scales took on a brown tint; calm mixed with anxiety. Talori brought them under control again, though, and the scales returned to shades of soothing lavender and sparkling light blue.
Now, many thoughts took shape in her head, causing her to worry. What if something was wrong? Why was Ariadne here? Was something overlooked?
Talori shoved these thoughts into the back of her mind and kept her composure. Her posture was straight, tall, regal, just as a leader's should be. She smiled kindly at Ariadne and rotated her fins to move forward slowly. Talori spoke.
"Ariadne, it's nice to see you. Did you need me?" Talori didn't seem worried or stressed in the slightest to Ariadne, but inside, she was still anxious.

Ariadne was almost in front of Talori's chambers when the door suddenly opened. She stopped in her track a little surprised but quickly composed herself. Just for a few seconds she caught the brown tint color of the Queen's tail but it changed so fast she almost thought she saw wrong. She could've swore it was her imagination if it wasn't for her experience with others.

Talori kept a straight and regal posture, along with kind smile as she talked.

'Ariadne, is nice to see you. Did you need me?' she asked the blonde.

Ariadne smiled gracefully slowly shaking her head, keeping her mouth shut about the early occurrence.

'Its pleasant to see you as well, your highness. Its nothing wrong at all, don't worry. I just wanted to make sure you are feeling alright and to ask you if you need anything at all.' the blue eyes mermaid said in a melodic voice trying to give her comfort.

She spoke formally, even if it wasn't completely necessary. But she always does that as long as she doesn't dislike a person or if she isn't very close with them. A lot of people may say she's a little bit rigid, but it's her way of not having any regrets after.

She looked at the mermaid in front of her. More younger than her, but still mature. Maybe that's why she actually doesn't dislike her. If she thinks better, she doesn't dislike anybody from the palace if she recalls correctly. She sometimes even thinks that they would grow to have a better bond than just 'business'. But this is almost impossible to happen, right?

Without thinking she let her gaze travel around the corridor, but she quickly refocused on the queen in front of her. Ariadne wanted her to feel safe and sure to talk about the problems she is facing, but she wouldn't force her if she doesn't want to.

She patiently waited for the queen to do or say something, not rushing anything.

Galarn floated silently as Oxyrin berated him. He was used to it... although to be fair in this case I was her that had slipped up somewhat. “I will be frank with you Oxyrin, I was not distracted, you had simply put me in a position where 3 other gaurds where already overlapping my designated area leaving me as a redundancy” he stated with a cold tone. Then watching the other evens unfold with took and Mei. honestly he found oxyrin and took to be far too emotional when carrying out there duties at least one part of galarn believed so. Personally he would have had took executed for incompetence a long time ago, but alas he was not in charge. “Very well, although I believe I’d be more suited to deal with Mellownis then you are, no disrespect but you lack a social tact” he once again spoke coldly of course question the princes orders was not normal but effective distribution of avaible gaurd and there skills where key right now

Talori thought for a moment, going through the things she could possibly need. "Well, someone to talk to about my problems would be nice, but you seem to have a few of your own." The statement wasn't intended to be stuck-up or rude. It was simply true. Talori would love to share her problems with someone, but now that she was queen, she couldn't be so carefree anymore. "Would you like to share? You seem tense... stressed. I don't need anything, but do you?" The question was intended to make Ariadne think carefully.
A few of her scales retracted on her arms and some appeared on her shoulders, which seemed to be a habit for Talori.

Mood: Curious || Mentioned: Maddie15 Maddie15 , StarWarsGeekGirl StarWarsGeekGirl

Kohei had been assigned to guard near the royals’ quarters that day. He knew that both the king and queen had much to focus on. He hadn’t expected for the day to be eventful for himself—he was just a regular guard amongst many others. He spent half of the morning caught between murmuring to his post mate and glancing down the halls. He was very surprised when he caught sight of the princess. He inclined his head as she passed, elbowing his post mate who ducked her head a moment later.

He watched out of the corner of his eye as the princess moved towards the queen’s chambers. He glanced away when the queen emerged, keeping his gaze resolutely downwards. He did not want to be caught staring—although their clan was more lenient when it came towards formality, he still knew his place.

Suri hummed as she sat amongst the younglings, attending to them. It was a daily task she indulged in and one she was expected to perform. She smiled as one of the smaller younglings swam closer, raising a shell to show off their newfound treasures. Sitting there, Suri felt more calm. There had been enough restless days throughout their clan. Giving herself something to focus on—a routine to keep her mind of the troubles of their people—helped.

A tug on her hand had her glancing upwards, eyes wide. Several younglings had gathered, eagerly asking to play a game. She agreed, rising to swim alongside them. One of the other caregivers nodded their head at her as she passed. Suri nodded her head back, smiling warmly. It was only a few feet away in a cropping of coral that the small group began to play.

Electing to be in the middle, Suri swam in lazy circles. She didn’t want to discourage these younglings—especially with how they were smiling and laughing as she slowly swam after the shell they passed amongst themselves. She could see several guards in the distance patrolling and if she strained her eyes, she could even see the ruins. She knew the queen had left with a guard that morning to spend time by herself. Suri sighed, thinking of their queen.

Although she tried not to show it, she worried.

Suri knew she couldn’t speak up. Questioning her role could be detrimental. She had built up a reputation amongst the people as someone who cared and contributed. Yet, her own fear held her back. A noise caught her ear. Suri shook her head, pulling her thoughts away from the young shifter. She focused back on the game, smirking when she darted forward and caught a young octopus shifter in her arms, pulling them close and twisting in tight circles. She could feel them laughing as she pulled away, smiling down at them fondly.

Got you!” She teased merrily, swimming down to the sand to pick up the shell.

Gan left the other guards to tend to the orcas once she confirmed none of the had been tainted. She headed towards the castle to the royal quarters. Everyone was anxious about the upcoming events. She watched the younglings frantacily swarm around, perhaps they plan to woo the young queen. She wonder if rumor of the queens age was true, if so this was a headache worth avoiding. As Gan passed by the queens quarters she stopped in front of Kohei sizing him up before greeting him. "Kohei. I have been given the honor in being present as ceremonially guard for today's events." This was common knowledge who else to be present than the one person who has done this before. " I have better things to do, you will go in my place. It's not hard just stand outside the meeting hall and try not to kill the Moon clans guard." Gan spoke so nonchalant about the most respected role a guard could ever have. It was the highest honor the court could ever stow upon a guard, the only thing that could be more important was being in charge of the purity charm. "Also." She took out the a rainbow hue shell and handed it over to the guard. "make sure the purity charm is given to the queen so that she can give it to the king, he is unavailable at the moment and she might be the only person that can get to him."

Kiva watched as the the guard made quick work of the shark. She ignored whatever he said after and slowly swam towards the deceased creature. Dark magic was contagious she knew she shouldn't touch the beast so she swam past it, looking at the damage it had done. "Do they think they are the only ones who have lost something, This clan survived a whole moon cycle (one month) without a queen." She threw down the glass swimming past the guard. "How am I supposed to protect you if they won't do their part." It was a very strange thing to say, for queen to speak about protecting her guards. Especially for someone as fragile as Kiva, who had no way to defend herself, who relied on the clan as much as they relied on her.

"Queen!" Distant voices called out to the two and Kiva looked up to see Jewl swimming her way towards them. She scooped up Kiva and examined her before turning her concern to rage as she glared at Pelag. "You incompetent fool! Your job to is eliminate the danger before it becomes a risk." Jewl was a caretaker of the queen. Something unique to Kiva's reign due to her age. When Kiva appeared it was clear that she was the most precious thing to Queen Esther. Approaching Kiva would get yourself killed even before she was crowned. Jewl along with Malu were the only ones allowed around Kiva without supervision. They did not necessarily have rank, they were workers after all but there word was treated as law when it involved the queen. "You are worthless, useless!" Jewl was handpicked by Esther herself and though she was rather cruel It comforted Kiva to have someone like her mother around. Of course if this was Esther Pelag would be receiving blows to the face. "Young queen..." Jewl's voice soften as she rejoined Kiva's side, "We must gather for your departure, the prince should have guards selected for your travels." Kiva briefly glanced at Pelag showing little concern for him, but considering her rank that little went along way. The trio would start to make there way back to the caves.

Took let go of Mellowni's hair and let out a clicky growl at Oxyrin. Took was known to be mad, and blood would usually result to her going into a frenzy, which is why she was kept near the border. Luckily for everyone she was already hunting, and her partially filled belly kept her somewhat in control of her urges. "This one's very life is a disrespect to the hierarchy." She backed away from the princes blade and circled the group. "Queen Esther was wise to allow her torment, and you protect her? We shall see how long you maintain that title prince " Took spat the words at her before swimming off, she had only went on a brief hunt to prepare for the Queen's leaving. Malik was going to guard over the queens path meaning that she would need to cover more ground. The queen was probably already preparing for departure and she would not be the one to make her wait.

Eventhough the young queen was safe, Pelag’s effort wasn’t appreciated when one of her handmaiden, Jewl came and scorned him about letting the shark too close to their queen.

Pelag was indeed a much stronger individual, but Jewl was handpicked by late Queen Esther herself to take care of Kiva, so she was definitely in the place above the young guard.

Pelag nodded to her word, accepting his failure and silently swam along with them and Jewl took Queen Kiva back to the cave. Pelag’s life was always difficult and brutal, abuse and violence from higher status merfolks was a common component in his life... Although he sometimes was tired of it, he knew too well that he would have to accept that fate and lived with it.

Oxyrin barely resisted rounding on Galarn. Now was not the time for smart remarks, and the implication that he knew how best to distribute guard routes, knew better than her, was galling. She’d been doing this longer than he’d been alive. What did he know about optimization. These were trying times for the clan with the meeting coming up despite the queen still being underage. Extra security, especially around the caverns the clan called home, were imperative, not only to provide better protection to the queen, but also to put the workers and fry at ease. Overlapping the patrols had been a deliberate choice to keep certain areas as well covered as possible. Normally, it would be a waste of resources to not have the guards set evenly throughout the territory, but special circumstances called for leadership and judgement. The normal way to handle it would not be the best way.

And what did he mean by “no disrespect”? There was nothing but disrespect in his tone and words. Sure she wasn’t the best in social situations, but she was still the prince. Her position only required her to do what was best for the clan, and if that left her with little time to interact with others, it was worth it. The safety and security of the Moon Clan were the most important aspects of her life and to have earned the great honor of acting prince was not something she had accomplished easily.

Somehow, she managed to ignore him, and as soon as Took released Mellownis, Oxyrin guided her in the direction of the caverns and began to swim back. Her comment about Queen Esther’s allowance of Mellownis’s treatment was true, though it had been common knowledge that the last queen was cruel. It had never been Oxyrin’s place to speak out against the queen, but just as the old queen made no motions against the torment, neither had she forbidden anyone from showing kindness. Oxyrin was at liberty to fulfill her duties any way she saw fit, and protecting weaker shifters from the likes of Took was not out of bounds.

Hopefully Queen Kiva would be more kind hearted. She was young yet, and her positions on many subjects not yet known. Despite her unique position to interact with the queen, however, Oxyrin felt her stomach turning at the idea of asking her for anything she did not readily give. It was not her place to question her queen, not even on her lack of stances. Queen Kiva would reveal what she would in her own time, and whatever her decision for Mellownis, or for the clan in general, Oxyrin would accept it.

They made it back to the caverns without too much trouble. A few sharks were attracted by the scent of blood, but left when Oxyrin postured threateningly. There had been one brave enough to try to sneak a bite anyway, but it was swiftly dispatched. She swung the scythe off her back in an easy, practiced motion, the sharp edge clearing her shoulder and bit into the shark in a wide arc. She ushered Mellownis along quickly, and the blood from the shark managed to keep other predators away from them for the rest of the swim.

Atalanta had headed out to the sunken shop earlier in the day. She’d been there exploring for many hours when the others started showing up but still enjoying the alone time she’d shifted into her octopus form hoping they wouldn’t notice her. She stayed nestled in a crevice in the ship as she watched the others interact. So much for some alone time. At least there’s a guard here...and he brought his muscles! She never spoke to Galarn or Pelag, she wasn’t good at speaking to cute guys and her blue rings always gave it away if she was flustered. The prince was also there and while she wasn’t a guard Atalanta didn’t mind that view either.

All three of them looked sleek and were well built. Unlike her with her mess of tentacles, she couldn’t get anywhere very fast. Even Mellownis could easily out swim her and the other worker wasn’t even built for speed. It was then that Took showed up. Atalanta couldn’t help but hate her, she was disrespectful and rude to the prince and harassed Mellownis to no end. Dang it Took you’d be so hot if you weren’t such a bottom feeder! Well I should say something. Atalanta was about to shift to interview when the prince spoke up. You get one hotty point! she thought to herself as she continued to silently observe. It was nice seeing someone stick up for her friend.

Galarn made some well disguised insults to the prince Talking smack DIRECTLY TO THE PRINCE I think I might be in love! Atalanta thought to herself as she admired the guard. Took had finally left and it looked like the Prince and Mellownis were on their way out as well. Atalanta crawled across the floor and slipped into a lower level beneath the guard before shifting into her mermaid form. She was fairly good at being sneaky and hoped he hadn’t noticed her yet. She swam to the back corner of the room where there was a chest full of golden round thingies. I already have a million of these things! She huffed in frustration as she tried to silently dig through the chest before coming across a crown made with gold and sea shells. She’d seen some before and was never really drawn to them but this one had shells on it! The placed it delicately on her head I live like this now! She thought satisfied with her new impressive trinket, she couldn’t wait to show Mellownis later. Crowns usually fell off of fast swimming mermaids but since she was slower she could easily keep it on. At least now she could be slow and stylish.

Ariadne's eyes widened for a bit as she took in the words. She was a little stiff after thise questions. It's not usual for someone to ask about her well being. A lot of them don't get the chance to talk to her for real either.

She relaxed a bit as she put a hand softly over her mouth, chuckling awkwardly. It not something she let's out normally , but maybe it's because she's feeling comfortable.
'Well, it's not something I'm not used to it. Stress became my middle name because I usually work a lot. So please don't worry. It' s more important how are you now. So don't worry~~' she let out with a kind expression not wanting to bother anyone. She stopped talking because she realised she might bored the queen. She straighten her back and took a more calm and formal tone remembering she still has quite a few things to do. She face-palmed herself internally at the realisation. Maybe just delay them if the queen really wants to relax and she can help.

' It would be extremely nice to have a longer chat, but at the moment it might not be possible... ' she trailed off laughing apologising and then continued. 'Maybe another time though!' she mumbled softly almost like a whisper.

She glanced around now noticing the guards, but saying nothing and refocused her eyes on Talori.

'So if you have anything to say or worry at all, please don't hesitate to come to me.' she said seriously. She really wants to help people like her. She doesn't hate people like her.

Mei tensed as the prince rushed in, her blades although not on her skin were far too close for comfort, matched only by Took's strong grip. However as the other let go she relaxed a little with a shaky exhale. It took her a moment to gather herself and realize what had happened.... someone had- saved her? her. The shunned shifter, the one everyone insulted or snickered at, and the one the queen luckily was yet to judge. And by none other than the prince herself.

As Took swam away she barely noticed, still in a light shock, distracted briefly by what appeared to be movement in the nearby ship she raised a brow before turning away as Oxyrin helped guide her back towards the caverns, the shark attacks were scary, but not something she was unused to. After all she knew well from when she was taught as a fry that sharks came when there was any sort of blood like scent nearby. As one came over in an attempt to bite her, she swam quickly behind that of the prince who warded off the beast with a simple strike. "If only i was that strong..." she muttered in a whisper to herself, as though a thought that was accidentally said out loud. eyes wide in wonder before adjusting as they moved onward.

As they got back into the territory of other workers she nervously let some distance grow between her and the prince. "You-.... really don't need to accompany me all the way back to the caves. I-I don't want to trouble you" she said with a warm smile and soft chuckle. It was still a bit of a swim back, and truth be told her tail really stung, normally it wouldn't be as much of an issue but with the added weight of her young one that she wasn't used to, it put a strain on her.

A hand went to her stomach and she giggled, "We'll be fine, won't we?" she said with a smirk, looking back at the prince with a timid shrug after the joking statement, "I-I mean.... I know she or he- whatever gender they are... can't hear me for real. Or at least not understand me, but sometimes- it feels like they do. I guess I sound silly- right?" she added, in truth this was the first conversation she'd had in a while with anyone but Atalanta, it felt nice. But she also didn't want to stop the other from her duties.
