Realistic or Modern A Matter of Worth [In-Character]

Yuudai Takanosu
Nebula Bridge. NYC
8:02 A.M.

Capture+_2019-05-02-19-47-31.png

It was a bright and warm day, one would consider being, "lovely" or "beautiful." But, although the sun was up Yuudai sat slumped over and dejected in the back of his fathers cramped convertible. The boy appeared disheveled, having unkempt hair, wrinkled and tired eyes, he didn't even have the time to iron the white button-up shirt apart of the suit that his father forced him to wear.

Yuudai narrowed his eyes at the back of his fathers head, "I could've gotten there faster if you had just let me go by myself." he breathed out in a with a hint of annoyance in his voice. His father looked back to his tired son in the rearview mirror, "Hey, at least I'm taking you, I'd appreciate it if you at least pretended to care? Besides this might be the last time I see you for a while since this place has dormitories."

As his father announced that Yuudai perked up, the tiredness in his eyes disappeared and he turned in his seat excitedly looking out to see the fortress that was the Nebula Brigade, in view. His father chuckled, "Now that's the spirit! This is a job opportunity that your mother and I could never take advantage of so be grateful I introduced you to it." Yuudai sighed silently and forced a smile to his face pretended to chuckle as best he could, turning back into the car "Yes, of course, thanks!" he exclaimed as his father turned around letting a twitch of anger escape from his left eye.

The traffic had slowed, even more then it had already been, to the point Yuudai felt like the car wasn't even moving. Yuudai looked outside then back to his father, then he proceeded to quietly step over the door and outside the car onto the street.

He snuck far away enough so that his father couldn't see him and maneuvered his way between the tight gaps between cars, mind you illegally tailgating.

When he made it to the sidewalk he turned to see his father, looking at Yuudai with confusion in his eyes, "How'd you get out there?" Yuudai shrugged and began walking in the direction of the Nebula Brigade. "Hey, where are you going?!" his father shouted after him, "At this point, it'd be faster to walk. See you later dad!" he shouted back. He heard his father grumbling, but traffic wasn't moving so he wouldn't be catching up anytime soon.

It was a long walk along the sidewalk, especially since Yuudai naturally speed walked. Once he got to the opening Yuudai turned completely face the island, he saw the Nebula Brigade. As Yuudai walked towards it, he noted more and more that the island looked like it was taken straight out of a sci-fi movie.

The boy slowed up as he approached the gathered crowd near the building, hesitantly placing his hands into the pockets of his black blazer. When he was within hearing a range of the crowd he noticed a group of assorted people in masks to the left of him, some looking younger than others.

As Yuudai wasn't very familiar with gathering among strangers he simply walked to the masked group and held his hand out to the man in suit and tie, then introduced himself "My name is Yuudai Takanosu, nice to meet you." He announced. Suddenly a plethora of scenarios popped up into his head, he couldn't figure out if these people were future teammates, allies or if they were just superhero enthusiasts like himself, but he was there and barged in as if he knew who they were. "You have to stop assuming this crap," Yuudai thought, scolding himself silently. He looked up at the man and stood down, less eagerly and waited for a response.

Chris turned in the direction of the deputy director and stepped forwards. His demeanour had changed completely. He was standing more confidently, his badge on display. He knew what he was doing was a risk, but he had no other choice, this was the deal, nobody could know that he was a cop and Parabellum. It would just be too complicated. Kit heaved a sigh "brother our entire lives are nothing but complicated. Stop making a mountain out of a molehill and fess up. You're gonna be found out sooner or later" Chris knew he'd rather later than sooner, he was not naturally a procrastinator, but this was a step too far for him. It was too much to risk his cop life and the lives in his department by revealing himself to be Parabellum at this moment in time

He spoke, his tone respectful, that a cop talking to someone light years ahead of his pay grade. "I don't have a question, but I have a message from my chief." He pulled out a page from his pocket, it was neatly folded into the shape of an origami crane. He skillfully unfolded it and handed it over to the director.

To whom it may concern,
The vigilante mage Parabellum is delayed due to work commitments with the NYPD. They are a member of the force so it is imperative that their identity never is revealed. It is imperative that their identity remain secret, as per the deal
They will be arriving shortly.
Sincerely
Lana Mintin
(Chief of Police, NYPD precinct 17)

The cat on Chris' shoulders watched the whole proceedings with unusual interest for a cat. It looked about four years old, with startling violet eyes

Deputy Director Carillon + Miss Lindholm [NPC]

The deputy wasn't impressed by Cecil's non-sequitur, maintaining his cool expression. He wasn't impressed, but if he was irked, he didn't show it.

Seeing the new arrivals, the deputy pulled his sleeve back and spared a glance at his wristwatch, his eyebrow rising to meet his hair.

"Can we get free days off for sporting events?" someone asked, and the deputy director elected to ignore the question, as he turned his back on the group with a deep sigh and motioned for it to follow after him.

As soon as they stepped inside through the designated entrance, the team was bombarded with flashes. The security staff of the building — men and women in armored, black-grey uniforms with silver-blue badges with 'GCSD' written on them — cordoned off the journalists and tourists and created a safe path towards the four elevators in the center, the deputy director saying that one of them will easily be able to carry them all and inviting everyone inside.

The elevators were circular in shape; large platforms sliding up and down tubes of transparent kevlar-glass gel. The platforms were easily large enough to fit a vehicle in them.

"There are other, subtler entrances and exits to the building, but not all of them will accept your security clearance. And speaking of clearance, don't stray too far from the group or the automated security protocols of the base will activate and spray you in containment foam. You will get your cards when we meet the director - for now, stay close to me. Here's how you work the elevators:"

The deputy director held his hand out, palm-forward. A haptic, cyan hologram sprung up from the platform they were on, with a list of floors from twenty to sub-six hovering in front of the director's hand. He pressed 'cancel.'

"If you state your name then say the floor you want to go to, the elevator will also respond to that, like this: Caleb Carillon, floor three."

The elevator began to move up at a swift speed. The deputy director turned to face the group and asked, "Questions?"

Brick [NPC]

Brick growled when his punch missed but reacted quickly enough. The red energy from Brick's punch wasn't wasted, as this particular strike was designed to only be transferred through direct contact. Brick instead reprogrammed the energy and had it push him in a burst of power.

In effect, instead of being flanked, the villain simply rebounded, changing directions and moving back towards Carbon Dragon, but lacking his previous deadly speed, which he made up for with being only feet away from Carbon Dragon when he changed directions.

Brick rapidly manifested a forcefield to parry the sword-swing in his left hand, but he shield lacked the shimmering glint of his previous use of it. He used his other hand and offloaded what little power he could into it, aiming a blow at Carbon Dragon's head, though even then, it would be enough to break bone in a baseline human.

It was clear to see, however, that whatever energy Brick was using wasn't keeping production up with his demands, and slowing down. He'd need a moment to restore it after this exchange, which opened him up for a counter-attack.

Lucien the cat followed the group into the elevator. Chris didn't follow the others into the building, instead, he turned away and headed back towards his bike. Upon arriving he had parked his bike around the back of the building, wedged between two industrial looking pipes carrying good only know what in and out of the building. He reached the bike and pulled a leather bag out of the storage section under the seat. He looked side to side, his grey eyes searching and seeing nobody nearby. He relaxed slightly, but cats an illusion spell anyway, one could never be too safe, regardless of the fact that he was outside a superhero headquarters, he was still in New York City. and there was always danger lurking somewhere in NYC. The illusion insured that all anybody non-magical saw was the industrial pipes and nothing else.

Kit spoke: "I appreciate it brother, you giving me control for this." Chris nodded, "don't mess it up, this is our reputation and maybe our lives at stake" Kit rolled her eyes. "remember what happens last time someone tried to kill us?" Chris winced at the memory, it was not a pleasant one. At that moment Kit took control and Chris body began to change I to Kits. It became slightly slimmer, considerably shorter, the stubble disappeared and the face thinned. The hair grew, becoming longer and wavier. (Its growth resembled that clip of brambles sped up and narrated by David Attenborough) A diagonal burn mark appeared on her right hand. The entire process took about 10 seconds but was highly effective.

Kit stretched and reached into the bag, pulling out the mage suit. It had been enchanted by her parents to instantly fit onto her or Chris, compensating for size immediately.

20190506_082442.jpg
She placed a dark green domino mask over her eyes. This along with the facemask obscured her face from view. She pulled her tangled hair into a ponytail bun, cursing her brother for messing it up and pulled the hood of her suit up. She was faceless and genderless.

With her identity concealed Kit entered through a side door away from the eyes of the media, emerging in the main lobby of the Nebula building. "first things first, find my cat"

Mercy - Riya Kapoor

"Thank you, Deputy Director," she says to Carillon. And when the man signals the group to follow him, she obediently does so.

The flash of photography, the press of people is unusual for her and Mercy reflexively slows before the crowd of fellow Nebula Brigade members presses her onwards. The guards holding back the people remind her of a procession, though what the occasion is escapes her understanding. She boards the elevator, having at least seen enough of those now to know they aren't a teleporting chamber but rather an ingenious lift-and-pulley system. And when the Deputy Director gives out instruction, she leans in close to watch what he does.

After he asks for questions, Mercy looks past Deputy Director Carillon and instead looks to Miss Lindholm. "What is your role and responsibility here? Are you the keeper of these identity-concealing masks?"

Carbon Dragon
Location: The Bronx, New York City

As Carbon backed away from Brick, he came face to face with the villain as he parried his attack. He noticed Brick put his remaining power into his other hand and raised his shield in just the nick of time. From the impact of the strike, he could tell that Brick's pumped up energy had been depleted or was nearly depleted. If he wanted his opponent to remain on that level, Carbon would need to attack in order to keep Brick's power level down. The main problem is that his A-Jets weren't charged up, so no boost of speed could be used. Carbon hadn't face any proper foes in a long while, so he too was running off of instincts and training. He also had limited options on what he could do right now.

However, he did have one option. The moment Carbon landed back down on the rooftop he unmanifested the sword on his left hand while still keeping his shield on the right arm. He then launched a powerful uppercut to Brick's head with impressive speed, packing all of the energy he absorbed from Brick's previous strike as well as his own power. With a tighter area of release, the strike should deal a good amount of damage to the brute.

Brick + Graviton [NPC]
Bronx

The villain's eyes went wide as the uppercut struck the underside of his chin and sent him sprawling across the rooftop, and then over the edge.

Brick impacted the ledge of another rooftop with his head, clipping off at high force and hitting the opposite wall, doing the same again twice, then tumbling down into a large, green dumpster that slapped closed with his landing; he was most likely unconscious or dead.

Just next to Lilian.

- - -

Graviton flew across the sky, trailing a wispy tail of green energy in his wake. "I have the target in sight; he's fighting Brick and - oh, Brick's down. Well, moving in for the take-out."

Graviton's costume was a heavy suit of dark grey metal armor, though not quite power-armor. It looked half-professional, half-scrap, as if put together by an engineering student on a limited fund. It was clear some parts were older, rougher, and newer layers of technology were added over time. It had a rough skeleton covered in armored plates, and what looked like a pilot mask with a pair of pipes going into a tank near the back, probably containing oxygen. The suit was decorated with small, glowing LEDs and details in green or lime coloring, including the lenses of the mask, in which one could see the white-ish outlines of crosshairs of a targeting system and analysis software.

Graviton didn't announce his presence, didn't say, 'hey buddy,' or indicate his approach, but rather elected to dial his thrusters to two-hundred percent output, as he flew into Carbon Knight, tackling him mid-flight and intending to throw him down to the street so he would hit a car, a wall, or just be stunned from falling what was at least two or three stories down.

Assuming the maneuver worked as intended, Graviton hovered at a steady height, above the hero, and rained down blaster fire from a wrist-mounted laser gun. "Have a taste of the good shit, Metal Man!"

Carbon Dragon
Location: The Bronx, New York City

Carbon landed back on the rooftop after landing the massive punch to Brick, seeing him slide and fall off the rooftop with BANG and THUD sounds emanating from the alleyway. He released a sigh of relief as his battle with Brick was over. Sure it was short, about two minutes or so, but a large amount of energy was released in the exchange. As he turned around to do his normal duties, his system caught a fast moving object approaching him at incredible speeds. He barely had enough time to at least semi-block with his shield as he was tackled and launched off the rooftop. There were already some on-lookers but those who did gather ran away as Carbon fell three stories off a building into the street below, leaving a noticeable impact crater.

He slowly raised himself off the ground, with noticeable scratches and streaks on his armor but besides that it barely took damage. There were some civilians still in awe of what was happening when a hailstorm of laser fire began to rain down on Carbon. Before any could strike him directly, he raised his shield and looked towards the attacker. It was none other than Graviton, another member of the New Predators. It would seem Brick's statement earlier wasn't just an empty threat.

Either way, Carbon couldn't physically attack him. Graviton sat stories above Carbon, no way in hell Carbon could reach him without his A-Jets. But at least something was happening in favor of Carbon. All of the kinetic energy from the blasts were being absorbed with his shield, so if he were to get close enough he could launch a massive physical attack against Graviton. Something else he could do was use the weapon on his back.

He reached with his remaining arm and grabbed the MIR, instantly linking with the ICS. With his shield still covering his body, Carbon shifted closer to the ground as he moved his shield slightly to the right to allow for the MIR to have a clear view of the target. Instantly locking on to Graviton, a hailstorm of gunfire began to approach him. If we were to attempt to dodge and weave, Carbon could still perfectly aim the MIR towards him. He had to defeat Graviton before the rest of the New Predators arrived. If they wanted a war with the 'Metal Man', then they have just received one.

Location: North Island New York, the Gate to the Nebula Brigade

Sasha frowned behind her sunglasses, which was barely visible, when the deputy director, their guide, decided to ignore her question. She had a form in her backpack that she only had a week to hand in, and she needed to get it signed if she wanted to play in the early season play offs. Don't get her wrong, she could probably carry her team to the Inter-state, but to get to National and World level you need team cohesion. But she just shrugged it off, she could just ask one of her supervisors later to sign the paper.

As she followed the group in the hall she was happy that she put on sunglasses, the flashes of light were so bright she thought about going to her local optician after. Why were there so many goddamn reporters taking pictures of them? This was meant to be a new team that nobody really cared about right? This isn't going to be one of those marketing ploys where companies hire young people to relate to a younger market right? Right?

She lets out a sigh of relief when they finally go up from the ground floor, after all who knows which one of them could've had a gun! As she takes a moment she notices Toby, the nervous wreck who was now by himself because who knows where the cop went to. It was a perfect chance to get some extra info before they start.

Sasha inhales deeply before casually strolling to the young man with her hands behind her back casually before she barges her shoulder into his rather hardly to get his attention.

"Ooops!" she says as she covers her mouth, "Sorry about that! It's just that this is such a high stress environment isn't it? Reminds me of a war zone teehee. Anyways I'm Sasha, and you?" Sasha internally congratulates herself after so expertly making contact with her target. She now has to carry on the attack while his defenses are down.

The man gave Yuudai a puzzling side stare then hesitantly shook the boy's hand "Okay..?" the stranger said nonplussed. "Hmm, I guess you're not the guy then?" Yuudai parted from the crowd and looked over everyone, nobody looked extraordinary or different from the rest, except for the media, of course, nothing that could identify a hero from a civilian. "They must all be inside then."

Without giving a second thought Yuudai waltzed inside through the main doors. Before the door even closed Yuudai halted in his tracks upon seeing the view. His jaw dropped, the lobby was a gorgeous sight and set right in front of him was a beautiful water display. Yu began walking around it, keeping his body faced towards the fountain slowly faltering not removing his eyes off the display until it reset the sequence.

As he turned around Yuudai almost collided into the front desk parallel to him. He closed his mouth after looking up at the person standing behind the desk, blinking once before he shook his head and regained proper vision. He scratched the back of his head then asked: "Hello I'm one of the members of the Nebula Brigade, but I arrived late and don't know where to go, could you maybe direct me?"

The bronx were very busy this morning, a superhero villain fight wasn't even the most concerning thing happening. Some might argue the incredibly old, mummified looking corpse that was pretending to be alive which was riding a incredibly upset looking brown boar was more particular. That person is no other than magician extraordinaire Eik Yfirgefin.

You see after deciding to set on a adventure to help humanity escape from the shackles of technology the elderly man decided a summoned magical boar to be the best mode of transportation. Unfortunately unlike Freyr's magical golden boar who could run across the skies all Eik could muster was a much more humble swine. The most incredible thing about it was when it farted, it increased it's 3 mph speed to 4 mph for a split second.

Nonetheless Eik decided to take a break in a bad spot, that's because as he was turned away to stretch his back due to sore ass syndrome the battle between Brick and Carbon scared away the boar, who left the premises with never seen before speed with a loud oink which alerted the old wizard.

So what does Eik think when he sees his only mode of transportation running away and the only two possible culprits are an angry guy and a guy in a power suit? Well obviously it's the latter's fault!

"You damned brats and your technology always intervening and making life more difficult! If you like putting your grubby little hands on everything this should teach you a lesson!" he said as he waves his hands around, bright runic like words forming in the air.

("May not even the air dare to touch you until you learn the importance of personal space!")
"ᛗᚨᚤ ᚾᛟᛏ ᛖᚡᛖᚾ ᛏᚺᛖ ᚨᛁᚱ ᛞᚨᚱᛖ ᛏᛟ ᛏᛟᚢᚲᚺ ᚤᛟᚢ ᚢᚾᛏᛁᛚ ᚤᛟᚢ ᛚᛖᚨᚱᚾ ᛏᚺᛖ ᛁᛗᛈᛟᚱᛏᚨᚾᚲᛖ ᛟᚠ ᛈᛖᚱᛋᛟᚾᚨᛚ ᛋᛈᚨᚲᛖ!" the incantation came thundering out of his mouth, sending the runes flying towards Carbon. If they were to unfortunately touch the hero he would suddenly lose all friction until he fulfilled the condition of the spell, but luckily that was pretty subjective.

Interaction: Carbon Dragon, Graviton
The giant smashed into the building. A large part of the wall where Lilian hid was chipped away. For an instant, she was ready to bolt; Carbon Dragon would be too busy avoiding late pursuers to pay her any attention. Unfortunately, before she could move, two things happened. Almost simultaneously. One, a figure in power suit appeared and attacked Carbon Dragon. Two, a seemingly senile geezer appeared.

Now, the old man was no ally of the new power suit person considering his shout, but he was an extra variable in Lilian's plan. An irritating one.

Gun blazing. She couldn't wait any longer. Lilian gritted her teeth and made her move. She moved away from the chipped wall. The chemical blaster was loaded. She shot toward the bullet hail between Carbon Dragon and Man-in-Power-Suit. A gas canister was launched. It was one of the more harmless bomb Lilian had; smokescreen with induced sleeping gas. Not that the sleeping gas could affect any of them. If left to its own device, it would explode after impact with ground or something else hit it.

Regarding of the result, Lilian didn't wait to see. She turned on her heels and ran into the alleyway. Her interference alerted everyone of her presence, but they would be too busy with each other to notice her. Unless, of course, they had another man in store.

But how likely was that?

Leticia Herschel~
North Brother Island ~ Nebula Brigade Entrance
Time: 8:05

The director motioned for the group to follow him after a brief sigh. Leticia wouldn't put it past this man, he had a lot on his plate, she presumed. She took one of those masks that they had kindly provided, just to have a feel of it. Not that she hadn't brought her own mask, but this mystical stuff that conceals identity through blurring? She would gladly take it... provided she had the time to study it later on.

It's okay legs, it'll be alright in a moment!

As she shuffled by the back of the group, her hands found their way into her pockets, there seemed to be some interesting people in the group, the lady clearly from another land... With her outfit and all. Not to mention the girl who had a flashy landing. They clearly had powers far above hers.
Not only that, as soon as they got into the building, the immediate blinding lights began their relentless assault on the small group of people. As rowdy journalists began their battle for the best pictures of the future heroes, the deputy director continued his curt speech.

Though honestly, wasn't this a little... excessive? What if some villain decided to attack the base on the day that the heroes arrive? After all, the most efficient way to defeat your enemies is to rip them out before they can develop their roots. Not to mention, the press would cover it all as well.

I should stop thinking negatively before it actually happens. The villains don't want war too... I think.

As she shuffled awkwardly into the elevator and awed at the hologram panel of the lift, she brings her hands out of her pockets, letting out the breath she had held since she entered the building.

"Questions?" Deputy Director announces as they went up.

After he asks for questions, Mercy looks past Deputy Director Carillon and instead looks to Miss Lindholm. "What is your role and responsibility here? Are you the keeper of these identity-concealing masks?"

She turned to the extraordinarily dressed lady, smiling brightly as she interrupted any form of answer from the secretary.
"She's a secretary, think of her as an assistant to the Deputy Director, managing the small details for him. She can be considered a keeper of the masks, but she does way more than that."
A question. Huh. It did seem to appeal to her natural habit of trying to find an answer and delivering.

I did not just say that. Please tell me I didn't open my big mouth.

Oh, there she goes, being self-conscious again.
Besides a fervent wish that the ground would swallow her as she stared right at the foreign lady, there was eye-to-eye contact; Critical damage to Leticia. Her smile tried to hide her absolute fright, as her internal self began rolling about in a panic.

Uuwah...

Location: inside Nebula brigade buildng

Kit looking around the lobby her eyes scanning for any sight of Lucien the grey cat. There was nothing. Closing her eyes, she reached out her mind and accessed the connection to the familiar. Her connection with Lucien was good, but it was always stronger for her brother. This made sends considering that Lucien was originally his familiar. Kit found herself once again wishing for her three raven familiars. But they hadn't been seen since the incident and deep down Kit knew that she would most likely never see them again. There was no point in her getting any new ravens because Lucien would just eat them in one swift chomp.

The connection held, her left eye turning violet allowing her to see what Lucien saw. The hellcat was in a loft travelling upwards, along with the deputy director, ms Lindholm and a group of random people she assumed to be the other nebula brigade members. They certainly seemed a mismatched bunch and overwhelmingly female. It was going to be very interesting to see how (if at all) well these people could work with each other. And what kinds of abilities they had. She idly wondered if any of them had magic or if they were metas. But one thing she was 99% certain of was that one of them would be a tech suit. She wasn't a fan of mechs, they always were too reliant on their tech and would be a serious hindrance without them.

As Lucien looked upwards she could see that the lift was heading for the third floor. She broke off the connection, there was no point in her portalling into the lift because one, it was a massive energy drain and two, the movement of the lift could throw off her magic and result in I. Her becoming stuck in the walls or ceiling of the lift, or even worse missing it completely and falling to her death down the shaft.

Instead, she decided to do the sensible thing and take the stairs. She walked past the confused boy and the desk, paying him little attention. The stairs were just as ornate as the building lobby. Her thick-soled shoes made a loud tapping noise as she ascended, taking two steps at a time. A few employees gave her strange glances probably wondering what this leather and synth armour clad person was doing racing up the stairs. But just as quickly their faces smoothed back to neutral as they remembered where they worked and who they worked for.

She reached the third floor, only to be met by a set of closed outer lift doors. Kit leaned against the wall and waited, idly wrapping a piece of bandage around right hand to cover the dark permanent scorch mark on her palm.

Deputy Director Carillon + Miss Lindholm + Director Jepsen [NPC]

Miss Lindholm blinked at the weird question and looked to the deputy director, who provided no aid. Before she could answer, however, a girl; one of the team members, answered for her. Content with this, Lindholm nodded. "That's correct."

The lift halted its movement, and everyone moved out. The third floor had walls, floors, and a ceiling of pristine, sterile white color. Every now and again, one could see a stripe of color like blue or red along the wall, with something written on it, such as 'CAFETERIA,' indicating the direction in which one has to go. The security of the building was apparent, with at least one guard patroling each section of the corridors, and cameras being abundant almost to the point of inducing that paranoid feeling that every move you made was being watched.

The group reached the director's office; after knocking and receiving a response to enter, the deputy director led the team inside.

Director Jepsen was a woman with an air of maturity and accomplishment, clearly in her late thirties or early forties, and looked like a person that experienced more in a year than most people experienced in their life. She had a fundamentally dignified, if unimpressed look to her; her hair was tied in a dark bun, she wore designer glasses, and wore a mix-match of suit and miniskirt to work. She stood up to look at them, placing down her coffee mug.

The mug did not have a humorous statement on it.

She greeted them, "Good morning, I am Hannah Jepsen, but Director Jepsen will suffice. Avatar and Bleu-Blanc-Rouge will arrive shortly, but for now, approach as I call out your name to receive your security pass."

She began to give out white-blue keycards, with careful designs that didn't reveal any personal information and only regarded the 'cape identity' of the owner.

Graviton, seeing his attacks ineffectually hit the shield, instantly changed his tactics. He reached onto his belt with one hand, holding onto an apple-sized device with green LEDs and a button, which he pressed, before chucking the device in Carbon Dragon's direction.

When the tech-grenade imploded, it suffused the area in green particles which increased the weight, and by proxy, the gravitational exertion on an object. A human caught in the blast would be pushed into the ground with enough force to break their ribcage and mess up their internal organs, and with how the grenade worked, armor couldn't exactly protect against it... probably. The effects were temporary, but the damage wasn't.

Graviton yelped when Carbon Dragon took out the MIR and shot him, clipping the villain's shoulder, left side of the abdomen, and destroying one of his anti-grav shoes. Graviton began to descend, his suit's systems helping stabilize the fall, until he hit the ground. Fortunately, an old magician deemed Carbon Dragon to be the perpetrator here and cast some kind of spell at him.

Unfortunately, someone just shot a sleeping gas canister at them from an alleyway.

"What sort of fuckery is this?!" Graviton asked, thanking the heavens he had a gas mask, as he hunkered down behind a car to avoid line of sight with Carbon Dragon, the old man, or the person who launched that gas.

Surprised by an answer coming, Mercy turns to the rather pretty girl so swift to accommodate her with an answer and meets the explanation with an appreciative smile. "A secretary, you say? An assistant. I'll remember that. Thank you for the explanation." And indeed, there's ample eye contact as the exotic beauty lets that admiration linger for a moment longer.

The arrival of the lift ends her inquiry, however, and she once more obediently follows the deputy director and his secretary into the offices of the Director. Once more, she looks around as they pass through hallways and by rooms, finding the architecture still very foreign to her sensibilities. Wreathed in a bright red robe with woven gold embroidery, she didn't remotely blend in to the decor.

The Director herself held herself aloof, as many mortals in authority did in this world. Mercy waits her turn and accepts her security card, though she doesn't tuck it away until she notices others doing so.

Carbon Dragon
Location: The Bronx, New York City

As Carbon fired upon Graviton three things caused the battle to go into chaos. The first thing was the appearance of a very old man, who shouted an incantation at Carbon, launching runes at him. Instinctively, Carbon ceased his firing on Graviton and rolled out of the way of the runes. While his assault on Graviton ended, avoiding the mages attack proved to be a boon as Graviton released a grenade that let loose green particles. Some touched Carbon, which instantly increased the gravity on Carbon. The ICS had to work on overdrive in order to keep Carbon mobile, so it instantly disengaged the link between it and the MIR as well as dematerialized his shield to conserve nanites. While he was mobile, his key piece of defense was gone. However, it would appear to be that the effect was temporary as slowly his weight was returning to normal.

The third and final thing to happen was that out of the alleyway where Brick fell into, some kind of gas canister was launched between Carbon and Graviton and exploded between the two of them. Thankfully Carbon's suit negated any smoke or foreign particles from entering, as readings of the composition indicated it to be some kind of sleeping gas. It clearly wasn't from Brick as he hasn't stormed out of the alleyway, plus it isn't something he could do. Well, whoever it was scurried off so Carbon headed it little mind as he focused his attention on Graviton and the old man, the latter of which might be reasonable considering he had never seen or heard of this man before.

Carbon, using his sensors, saw that Graviton hid behind a car while the old man remained where he stood. Quickly, he aimed the MIR towards Graviton and just before he fired he spoke to the old man. "Sir believe it or not I am not going to harm you. If anyone will it would be that man hiding behind the vehicle." Just as he finished his sentence he opened fire where Graviton was. While the suit couldn't automatically lock-on, using the optical abilities of the suit a rough outline of where Graviton was allowed Carbon to physically improve his aim without having to needlessly spray the Car with bullets.

Nebula Brigade HQ; Director Room
Interaction: Director
The mask did help conceal her identity. It didn't help the fact that her get-up was hot, though. Then the Deputy Officer dropped the bomb they were going to meet fricking Avatar and Bleu-Blanc-Rouge. Was today 'show off your least presentable self to everyone important day' or something similar? Brie considered giving her period-self a beating for her brilliant costume idea. Thank god she took off the gaudy cape. And spent a whole morning making it more presentable.

When the question session came, Brie was too occupied with her own thoughts to response. It was only after the group reached the elevator and already moved she came to her sense. By then, it was too late to ask if she could change her clothes. Bummer.

Brie consciously walked a bit slower from the group and hid herself behind Letty, the only girl she knew from group. Usually, she would be one of the chatterbox that asked question. Her clothes stopped her from doing so today.

The director, like the Deputy Director, remained impersonal with the group, which was a relief for Brie. Maybe she didn't have to be too self-conscious after all.
She received the card politely. The pass card had a similar feeling to a debit card. Once she put it in her pocket, a question came to mind.

"Can others used this card? Like, if I give this to a random guy on street. Can he use it to enter?"

when the lift doors opened Kit straightened up, removing her shoulder from the wall. the group strode out, nobody paying her any great attention. she joined the group in the middle, keeping pace easily with everyone. she didn't stare like some of her new teammates did, not wanting to appear too eager or too awestruck by the building. she did however look at every sign she came across, trying to commit them to memory to help her build a mental map of the building. she hated not knowing her way around, it made her feel vulnerable, as if attack was coming from around each corner. her new teammates seemed to be a mix of awe and "I am totally awed by this but I am trying very hard to hide it and keep my cool". The robed woman seemed to be the most shocked by everything.

the reached the Directors office. Now this woman Kit had heard of before. The word among the top brass at the precinct was that she was absolutely terrifying than angry. her own police chief had ponce said on one memorable occasion at the NYPD staff party that she would rather willingly throw herself into an overcrowded government prison with only a toothbrush and fight her way through the toughest criminals the world had to offer than attend one meeting with Director Jepsen. Kits boss was not one for exaggeration.

When her vigilante name- Parabellum- was called she stepped forwards and took the card. it was a completely anonymous card, no name, no details, nothing that could possibly give her away. the very opposite of her NYPD swipe card. She pulled out a leather strip from her bag, attached it to the card, before placing it in the side pocket of her trousers.

"Can others used this card? Like, if I give this to a random guy on street. Can he use it to enter?" a voice asked. it was a valid question, one that had flashed into Kits mind for a brief instant. she waited to see what the director's answer would be.

I helped... Fuee...

A wave of relief came and washed the anxiety away... Leticia could relax now.
"Glad to answer!" She chirped up.

As they walked out of the elevator, a person joined them... though...
Isn't that uncomfortable? Wait...
She thought as they moved towards the Director's Office. People have some questionable choices in clothing. Hiding their identities even when away from the public eye? It could only mean one thing.
Are they dangerous?

Though, there was a person behind her, shuffling uncomfortably in her outfit. Though she looked quite familiar, she just couldn't quite her finger on it. It was definitely someone from the university, yet something didn't feel quite right.
Rose? Angie?
Not only that, there was the Director. The person in charge, who would be responsible for a lot of things... Director Hannah Jepsen. To be bold in taking in new recruits... For this day, arranging everything must have been difficult, not to mention Avatar and Bleu-Blanc-Rouge, getting them to attend an event is a feat in itself. The rowdy journalists were kept under control by trained security staff, all of which seemed elite. To be a leader of a team like this, one had to command much power. She was defintiely someone to be respected.

Of course, after the Director's brief introduction, Leticia had taken her pass. She held it snugly in her gloved hands, admiring the card.
Tsume? Brie? Lou? Who was she again?

The character in question took her card and slid it into her pockets...

"Can others used this card? Like, if I give this to a random guy on street. Can he use it to enter?"

Brie! I would recognize her voice anywhere!
She suddenly didn't feel so nervous. Someone she knew was here, that was way better than being alone in a strange world.

Studying the card, it felt like a normal card, though there could be more. Who knows? When the card is used, it could assess its holder's biometrics through physical contact. That in itself was a very possible theory.
It could also automatically detect if any magic was being used or assess the memories of the holder.
Or it could...

She twirled the card around, trying to find anything of note besides the white and blue stripes. But can find none visible to the naked eye.
There could be a breach of security if a disguiser were to disguise themselves as one of the team and infiltrate with a pass. Leticia looked on as she awaited an answer; Catching up with Sabrina will have to wait.

For this question had its significance driven home; An insider attack was one that cannot be prevented by normal security measures. Therefore, she nodded as she stopped studying the card and put it into her jacket's pockets.

Though, she couldn't take her mind off the masked person Parabellum. There were way too many mysteries about that one.

Deputy Director Carillon + Miss Lindholm + Director Jepsen [NPC]

The director's expression shifted with Brie Amara's question. Not to a smile, but the corners of her lips perked up in something approaching smugness. "Theoretically? Sure. In practice? Anyone who's not supposed to be in this building will be detained without exceptions. Any 'guests' you want to invite are to go through a security check, and that's granted I give permission in the first place. Our defense protocols are still being finalized, but by the end of the week, this headquarters will be the most secure building in New York City, and probably one of, if not the most secure in the state."

In that moment, the door opened.

The first figure to walk in was a man in a very stylized suit, with a retro-looking helmet with a visor that covered the upper half of the face. The man had stubbly cheeks and chin and bore a welcoming smile. Instead of standardized military armor, he had a large, glossy breastplate tri-colored with blue, white, and red colors. At his side, clipped to a belt, was a scabbard with a slightly ornamental rapier. Bleu-Blanc-Rouge.

The second man was... glowing silver. A muscular figure with a subtle aura outlining his body. He was significantly taller than average, with auburn hair and a clean-shaved face. One could say he had the features of a painfully average American in his early or mid-twenties if it weren't for the fact that he was mind-numbingly handsome. He wore a white bodysuit with golden lines and plates of golden armor, and an equally golden cape billowed behind him as he entered. His face bore a white domino mask and his eyes glowed silver-white, doing little to actually conceal his facial appearance. If a primitive person from the ancient times didn't know any better, they'd call him a God upon seeing him. The moment he walked in, he smiled at the team. The Avatar.

Avatar stood there, purposefully taking on an akimbo pose, radiating heroism, while Bleu-Blanc-Rouge nodded, first to the director, her deputy, then the team. "Good morning," he said, with a French accent. "I am Bleu-Blanc-Rouge."

"And I am the Avatar," the man beside him replied.

Rouge smiled politely. "Could everyone please introduce themselves? Cape names, of course. I like to know who I'm working with. I've already read your docs, but I'd like to assign faces, or, well, as much of them as I'm allowed to see, to the information I have."

Brick + Graviton [NPCs]

"Holy SHIT!" Graviton yelled, as the car was impacted by dozens of rounds, the car alarm going off.

Whoever the fuck owned these wheels was going to have to file one hell of an insurance claim: 'a superhero vigilante peppered my vehicle with a futuristic rifle, turning it into cheddar.'

Graviton clicked a button on his wrist-mounted console, changing the mode on his gauntlet to selectively imbue a molecular structure with anti-gravitons.

He fiddled with the settings for two seconds, setting it to target 'complex mechanical structures,' which the car classified as. He set the decay for the anti-gravitons to be ~4 seconds, then pressed another button to confirm this selection. The lining on his left glove began to glow green, emitting a phantom of lime from it.

He waited for a break in the fire - waited for Carbon Dragon to reload. When the time arrived, Graviton tapped the car with his glove, imbuing it with a sufficient amount of anti-gravitons to counteract the effects of the planet's pull on it. The car stayed there for a moment, while Graviton stood up and carefully timed his trick.

Once around two seconds passed, he kicked the car at full force. The car went flying across the street in Carbon Dragon's direction, and just before it hit him, the anti-gravitons wore off and the car's weight returned to it, meaning the impact would be as nasty as it would be if someone legitimately threw the car at him. Graviton tried to aim and time the kick in such a way so that the angle at which the car hit into Carbon Dragon would trap him under it, provided he couldn't get out, on which Graviton was banking with the effects of his previous bomb.

Still, the villain wasn't stupid. His primary means of movement were disabled and that compromised his fighting style.

Graviton began to bolt down the street, not caring for appearances. At least the people on the sidewalk who didn't run made a place for him to do so, but many were too busy getting phone footage of the superpowered fight so Graviton clipped them with his shoulder, causing more than one phone to fall to the ground.

Brick clutched his head and moaned in pain as he climbed out of the dumpster, when someone ran into his left arm, probably stumbling or at least coming to a stop. Brick stared at the woman for a second, his pupils dilating as he clearly suffered from tunnel vision and a migraine, not capable of focusing on her.

"Who... are... you?..." he trailed off, half-speaking half-moaning.

He tried to step back but swayed and tripped as a result, landing on his butt.

Kit stared at the two heroes as they entered. So these were the famous Rogue and Avatar. They certainly cast an imposing presence. The moment they entered the room the entire atmosphere changed, everyone visibly straightened up, wanting to put their best selves forwards. Kit even found herself doing it.

Kit decided to go first. She spoke, her voice distorted by the mask, emerging genderless. "I am Parabellum" she gestured to the cat perched on her shoulder who was staring at the new arrivals of Rogue and Avatar with an expression of curiosity and confusion. "and this is Lucien" The cat nodded at them, showing that it is clearly not an ordinary cat.

Carbon Dragon
Location: The Bronx, New York City

Carbon unloaded into the car, causing considerable amounts of damage to it. He felt bad for the owner, but in these situations, the blame is placed on the villain. Eventually, the MIR ran out of ammo and as soon as it did he started the reload function, which would take approx. 5.5 seconds. He could also feel himself getting lighter as the particles effects were dwindling, and with that, his shield was able to come back if he so chose but his overall movement was still somewhat inhibited.

As it was about halfway complete the car Graviton was hiding behind was floating a bit off the ground before suddenly it was kicked towards Carbon. Suddenly it seemed the vehicle regained it's normal weight just as the MIR finished reloading, the angle of which would pin Carbon if he did nothing. Thankfully the energy stored up from Graviton's attacks still existed and while he had hoped to use it on Graviton himself, the usage of it would prove useful here.

Carbon raised his arm up and materialized his shield and, just before the car hit him, released all of the energy stored and sent the car flying back towards where it came from. Granted it didn't go that far, only about halfway between him and it's original position, but he was able to avoid it regardless. As the car landed back on the ground with a CRASH and THUD Carbon noticed Graviton escaping into the crowd.

He considered going after him, which if he did then hey more power to him but if he didn't it was no real skin off of his back. However, considering what has transpired here, he couldn't let someone like him go. Although if he went after him there was a high likelihood that Graviton would be arrested at the expense of Brick, who is probably either dead or barely conscious right now if at all. Or Carbon could go back to Brick and assure his arrest but would have a run-in with the old man which he would rather avoid. He wasn't afraid of him the opposite, in fact, he just would rather avoid him because it wasn't necessary to interact.

So, with his A-Jets no fully charges and the gravity on his body now lighter, he launched towards Graviton. Flying above the crowd he stopped his jets at the right time to where he would land right on Graviton. He tackled him from behind, with Graviton on his back and Carbon sitting above him. Carbon reared his fist, ready to give the final blow as on-lookers filmed the scene.

As you might guess the situation was already pretty confusing, even more so for someone as senile as Eik. Could you even blame him though? The guy dressed in black was saying he was the good guy even though he just started using his fancy smancy boom stick to lay in someone's fucking car, which normally would've been fine with him, technophobe and all, but you don't tell a guy you didn't scare his boar when you then continue to lay in another poor man's mode of transporation. It also didn't help that he started to feel sleepy, probably from the unclean air that is in these cities.

"For Odin's sake, I need some fresh air... I'm sure there was some incantation for this..." the old man begins to rub his chin and run his hand through his beard as he yawns and ponders about the spell before pointing his finger up, clearly remembering something.

("Njörðr god of the sea, father of Freyr and Freyja, please grace me with your divine power.")
"ᚾᛃöᚱðᚱ ᚷᛟᛞ ᛟᚠ ᛏᚺᛖ ᛋᛖᚨ, ᚠᚨᛏᚺᛖᚱ ᛟᚠ ᚠᚱᛖᚤᚱ ᚨᚾᛞ ᚠᚱᛖᚤᛃᚨ, ᛈᛚᛖᚨᛋᛖ ᚷᚱᚨᚲᛖ ᛗᛖ ᚹᛁᛏᚺ ᚤᛟᚢᚱ ᛞᛁᚡᛁᚾᛖ ᛈᛟᚹᛖᚱ. . " his voice thundered again, this time however the runes dissipating into nothing however. All of the sudden though a nice breeze of air that smelling like sea water washed over the area, blowing away the sleeping smoke gas. Eik takes a deep breath, revitalized;

"See now? Isn't the fresh air just grea-" before he could finish his sentence loud beeps from car alarms and people screaming could be heard in the distance, down the road. The old man turns around and squints in the direction of the sound to spot a massive 5 meter high tidal wave smash through everything in it's way, and it was heading towards them.

However as Eik observed he didn't get all that alarmed, no instead he started rubbing his temples in confusion, mumbling about something before slapping his knee in irritation. He turns towards Carbon and Graviton "See what you kids and your playing have done!? With your ramblings and this noxious air you made me evoke Njörðr instead of Kári!"

Yuudai Takanosu
Nebula Brigade Building, NYC.

Capture+_2019-05-02-19-47-31.png

The lady at the desk took her eyes off of her computer screen when spotting Yuudai, as he walked backward in the direction of her desk, but his attention was on the fountain. As if it were a reflex she pushed her glasses up with the tip of her pen, then he turned around and had almost hit the wooden surface. He seemingly had a question, and as he spoke she listened:

"Hello I'm one of the members of the Nebula Brigade, but I arrived late and don't know where to go. Could you maybe direct me?"

Upon hearing this, the woman opened a desk drawer to her left and took out an earpiece then hooked it onto her ear. Yuudai quietly looked down at his hands as he tapped his fingers on the desk to a random rhythm while he waited, feeling a tad bit awkward as he couldn't do much else.

Now turned towards the computer, the receptionist began typing, "And how do you spell your name, sir?" she asked orotundly. Yuudai's eyes slightly widened as he perked up from his dazed trance, quickly regaining memory of the situation.

He lightly shook his head snapping out of his lightheadedness then sputtered out, "oh yeah yeah, right, I forgot, um," and proceeded to spell out his name, "Y-u-u-d-a-i, t-a-k-a-n-o-s-u."

As Yuudai said each letter, the woman correspondingly typed it into the computer. Once she finished typing she scanned over the screen and nod, turning back to the boy. "Today is the correct arrival date, but do understand this is a workplace and not a school. Coming in late won't be looked over. Please try not to be late again unless it's an emergency.

"As for your appointment, I'll call someone down to take you to the room. Feel free to roam this floor for the time being," the woman concluded. Yuudai nodded in agreement, sure he could be late sometimes but he was good at breaking bad habits. Finally, she pressed the button on the earpiece, the receptionist returned to her work as she started the call.

Yuudai looped around and stepped away from the desk, examining the surrounding area again. He realized that set atop the fountain, there was a statue, shaded in a copper color.

What thing did it symbolize making it worth building? The man it displayed stood tall and proud, much like the statue of liberty. It was even the same color as when the French built it. "Maybe he's the founder?" Yuudai thought.
The French built the statue of liberty for Americans as a symbol of friendship.

giphy (3).gif
Shortly after his random thoughts, he felt a light tap on his shoulder. Yu turned around and saw a man dressed in uniform, he gave off the feeling of a guard. "I'll be taking you upstairs sir," he said. When Yuudai looked down at the man's security ID seeing as it looked real he agreed.

The man walked up to one of the 4 elevators and walked inside, and once in he proceeded to take off his glove and stick his arm out presenting the palm of his hand. A list of floor levels showed themselves in the form of cyan holographic light. He hit a button and the two started there way up.

It was a short, quiet, and slightly awkward way up. When the elevator stopped on the third floor, Yuudai could swear he heard the tension leave the air. The man directed Yuudai down the hall as he glanced over the rooms like they were magnificent artworks.

Once the two got over to the correct room, the security man confirmed "here's the room," and strolled away, back into the direction of which they came.

When Yuudai looked at the door he tensed up. A rush of nervous feelings went through him. Would they be mad? Unimpressed with him? Today was already a weird day for Yuudai. He normally didn't act this nonchalant, this 'sociable'; but he wasn't great at acting professionally either.

He just took a deep breath in, exhaled, straightened out his blazer, and put the most adult look he could muster on his face. He opened up the door, stepped inside and closed the door behind him.

Yuudai stopped in his tracks, seeing as there were two grown men in the way both appearing to be wearing very flashy attire. And one of them was glowing? Yuudai couldn't shove through seeing as that would be rude, so he tapped the shoulder of the one to his left saying "Excuse me, sirs, could I just move through here?" a nervous tone escaping from his voice.
