Looking for Experienced and New Players to Play a game of D&D 5E with a Green Horn DM (Now Full)

I am someone that has wanted to DM a game of Dungeons and Dragons but started out as a player first to get a taste of the game. I am looking for 4 total players to play "The Lost Mins Of Phandelver" with this in mind:
  • At least one player must be experienced. This is so I can get feedback on how good or bad of a DM I am.
  • At least one new players. This is because everyone has to start somewhere.
  • We will be doing a play by post.
  • Posting will be done as and when you can but you can't post right after you have already done a post.
As for Rules and what can be used, it will be this:
  • If it is in the Players Hand book, it's fine. Just make sure to reference the page so I can double check.
  • The Races Changelings, all three of the Goblinoids races, Kalashtar, Orc, Shifters and Warforged from the book "Eberron: Rising From The Last War" are fine. Just make sure to reference the page so I can double check.
  • The Dragonmarks from "Eberron: Rising From The Last War" are not allowed. I have yet to get my head around them yet.
  • Any Feats and Backgrounds in "Eberron: Rising From The Last War" are fine. Just make sure to reference the page so I can double check.
  • The class Artificer from "Eberron: Rising From The Last War" is fine. Just make sure to reference the page so I can double check.
  • The Spells Create Bonfire, Frostbite, Magic Stone, Thunderclap, Absorb Elements, Catapult, Pyrotechnics, Skywright, Catnap, Flame Arrow, Tiny Servant, Elemental Bane, Skill Empowerment and Transmute Rock are fin. What I mean is that if you chose a class from the Payers Handbook and it doesn't have the spell on the spell list but your chosen class can cast the spell from the book "Xanathar's Guide To Everything" then you can cast it providing you meet the obvious per-requisites. If you don't know if you can cast the spell then ask me and I'll let you know if you can.
  • We will be rolling for stats, gold and other things on RP Nation. I'll make a separate Thread so we can do it.
  • If you want to re-skin an item without changing its stats then please let me know beforehand so I can give the OK or no, hopefully the OK.
  • If you want to combined some items then please let me know first and then I will give you its cost to buy. For example, let's say you're a Wizard and you want to combined the Quarterstaff with the Arcane Focus Staff, you would need to let me know and then I would tell you that the cost was, let's say, 6 Gold Pieces. That was an example but I hope you get the idea.
  • No Evil characters. I'm new and need to gain a lot more experience before I will allow that.
  • If you want a Magic Item then please ask me first and I'll give you a price for how much it will cost.
  • If you ask for anything then everyone else will be able to get that thing you asked for too.
  • Please fill out your character sheet on the fillable character sheet that can be acquired for free from the D&D website.
Characters will start at Level 1. If there are any questions then please don't hesitate to ask.

I would love a Dragonborn fighter/paladin for this. I've played a bit of DnD, so I am not a total newbie, but I am not the font of information that I would be for Exalted or Palladium.

Will the stat rolls be a straight 3d6, or something different?

It will be 3D6 six times and when you roll them you can put them in any of your stats. I'll be making the Thread tomorrow as it is night time for me right now.

Yo! I'd love to join! I got me some dnd experience. Would Love to use a rogue or wizard/sorcerer

Though if Sherwood keeps joining things right before I do hes going to think I'm stalking him. (Which I'm not, i promise)

Will you be allowing any Unearthed Arcana features?

There is a few warlock pacts that look fun that are in playtest. Like the Lurker in the Deep or Genie.

I am 100% stalking Rex though, and would be interested in joining - but I'd completely understand if you'd rather have a more experienced player at the table instead of a third slightly-experienced person.

Well he did say he wanted some new players too. Hello Welian! Will be great to play with you again!

Well, this is tempting... I've tried to play dnd thrice and barely got to roll a single die in those games, so I'd be another player who's pretty unfamiliar with the rules. Got a Pathfinder background, though, so it's hopefully not as bad as it sounds... if you think that's alright, I'd probably looking for something that can throw a few spells around. Sorcerer, maybe? Wizard? Cleric, if there's some deity that gets my imagination going? No clue, I'd have to take a closer look.

Nice to see you again. I would love for you to join but, for now, I will not be doing Unearthed Arcana but send me the link. If I can be a good DM then I plan on doing Waterdeep Dragonheist and I'll allow UA then, with approval.

Silanon Silanon welian welian D. Rex D. Rex Sherwood Sherwood
I will leave a link to the dice rolling page as I have to head off to work now. Also D. Rex D. Rex would you be able to help Silanon with a sorcerer class if he wants to play that class please? I still need to wrap my head around that class but I believe I'm close.

Help would be appreciated, no matter what class I'm going for in the end... expect a lot of stupid questions while I try to figure things out.

One question about races, mostly to double-check: What's your take on drow and tieflings (both are in the PHB, so they might be fine)? I've got a soft spot for both, but I'd rather not consider them if you feel like they might be too disruptive. In either case, I'd be aiming for the good exception, so it shouldn't be a problem purely alignment-wise.

I dont have the link to the main UA. I think I got the pdf downloaded somewhere though. This was the only bit of UA content I was going use, just a warlock background. Lurker in the Deep. I can always go for the Old Ones, pact, for similar results. Though if I was to use the same char for the water deep heist, it would be awkward to change up their background so dramatically. But, I could always have the same background, and just switch things up mechanically.

As for Silanon Silanon I was havent played a sorcerer before, but I understand enough about them to be able to help. And I like to think I'm familiar with unorthodox uses of spells.

Silanon Silanon Great minds think alike! I was actually thinking the same thing! Though more specifically a drow born Tiefling. Could be siblings or something!

Shadeofshade Shadeofshade Thanks - figured it's best to ask, but I'll probably go with one or the other.

That'd certainly ask for some kind of shared background - if we find two concepts that work well together, I'd be totally up for it. Think I wouldn't combine the two races, myself, but that still leaves plenty of options. My thoughts right now are on something charisma-based - first plan was a dragon-blooded sorcerer to have common ground with Sherwood's Dragonborn, or a tiefling bard telling the story how a coin always has two sides. Could see something like a trickery cleric, too, but I think I like having a limited pool of known spells more.

I'm sure that wouldn't be too hard with our minds. Anything can be made to work if we are creative enough. Also, tieflings can skip generations, so you just as easily be drow. Or me drow and you tiefling. Or both drow or both tiefling.

My concept, in its briefest form, is a daughter of underdark cult to some dark power beneath an underground sea. To be sacrificed to it, char was cast into the sea and pulled to its depths, meeting this being, and then tossed through currents to the surface ocean. Touched by this being and being granted its power.

Of course its more intricate than that, but yeah.

As for sorcerers, dragonborns make great ones, especially when you throw in the dragon bloodline. Makes it easy to build a story on. And lol can't ever go wrong with a bard! Give a cleric a mace and they can be in their element! But i wouldnt really say that sorcerer or cleric are limited in spells. Not compared to Bards or Warlocks, anyway.

I'd probably go for a drow sorceress with the dragon bloodline of some good-aligned dragon, not with a dragonborn myself. You know, once upon a time, the drow overwhelmed a mighty dragon, took its power for themselves - and now it happens to manifest in one who happens to be way too intrigued by the world at the surface. Knowing what the drow left behind from ancient tomes, the urge to see it for herself was always there - when your character happened to end up at the surface after the ritual, it was only natural to pursuit. By now, the cult would probably have noticed that both characters didn't return for quite a while...
Could work similarly with a tiefling bard, I reckon.

But i wouldnt really say that sorcerer or cleric are limited in spells. Not compared to Bards or Warlocks, anyway.
What I meant is that clerics prepare from the cleric spell list, while both sorcerers and bards have their own, limited spell repertoire. As a beginner, I prefer having access to only a handful of spells (like the sorcerer, who knows 4 cantrips, 2 lvl1-spells, and that's it). That way, I don't have to ponder which one of the three dozen cleric spells might be the right one for this particular day, but can instead focus on using those few spells I have to their best effect. Makes sense?

Well, depending on what I roll for my stats, I'm looking at either a fighter or a paladin Dragonborn.

Sounds good - whatever I'm going with, I'll probably do my best to hide behind you. That's what teamwork means, right?

I've made my rolls, and I am rather disappointed in the numbers.

7, 10, 10, 10, 7, and a 15.

I'm hoping for a chance to reroll the 1's, but if not, I'll just go with the fighter.

Without rolling, I'd second the request for some form of reroll mechanism for the attributes. Either reroll 1's, or roll 4 and take the top 3, something like that - to keep the variance somewhat in check.

Either that, or use the fixed stats or point buy. If not, I'll stick with my numbers and pout a bit.

Noone wants a pouting Sherwood... I mean, I'm confident that you manage to make it work, but laughing is less fun when you don't get to roll additional 1's.

Is that horrible enough? Probably not, right? Shouldn't have rolled that 17, it ruins the plan...

Stinkin' 17. See what kind of friend you are? You blew the whole plan!
