Roleplayers who join a literate rp expecting to get away with one and two liners with pre-school-level grammar.


I ain't tellin' you a story, you word-maggot, I'm collaborating with you. I give what I get, and if I get a two-liner consistently, by hell am I giving a two-liner back.

My BIGGEST rp peeve is when people say they only strictly play a certain type of character,,, ESPECIALLY softies. I hate hate HATE people that are all like "uwuwu im baby and im looking for a strong character to take charge and do everything for me uwu, also p.s. i won't play anything else so get over it uwu" like,,,, I make SUCH a face whenever I see stuff like that.

It's not like having a softer character is bad, some can be done super duper well and u can create a wide arrange of characters that have a gentler personality. but when they're 101% submissive and dependent on the other person it's SO boring and SO predictable. And it's so common too!!! UGH! no wonder like 80% of my characters are kickass and have some type of attitude, it's so much more fun that way!! and there's SO many other unique personalities that can make things a whole lot more spontaneous and feel so much more alive instead of just having a clean-cut, dry, basic, whiny character that's about as flavorful as a piece of cardboard.

Happens all the time. Most often in threads where I'm concise for the purpose of avoiding people skipping things.

When people write an interest check like "Oh hey I'm super chill and relaxed. Let's have a no stress fun chill relaxed RP" and then the rest of their text is full of "IF YOU EVER DO X WE ARE OVER" "I HATE WHEN PEOPLE DO Y" "DON'T ASK ME TO PLAY Z TYPE OF PAIRING"

And it's like ... oh kay ... yeah ... you sound really super chill. I'll just tiptoe away from your interest check very very quietly.

Lol I get that, kinda feels insincere to me when there is a drastic change of tone like that. It gives an impression that either the person is trying to follow some trends they picked up from other interest checks or doesn't know what they want exactly.

I think there's just a bunch of people who think they are chill (or want to be seen as chill) but actually they are high maintenance as heck.

The only proper reasoning I have ever heard is people who are transgender and have some kind of hangs up with a specific gender. Something that makes it closer to (I don’t do sexual assault because I was sexually assaulted) and less (I don’t do males because I don’t know how men think).

I mean it doesn’t super bother me in general but it does make me a little exasperated. Like people are more than stereotypes. I usually try asking them to describe people of the specific gender they don’t want to write. I mean not even just for a writing perspective but to get them out of the idea that people of different genders are some alien species they can’t understand.

I do agree with you though and it's partially the problem with people saying their unable to play a gender that isn't their own; i.e. maybe a woman finds it difficult to write as a man, but what preconceived notions of 'man' are they bringing to the table? Maybe they don't like writing hyper-masculine men. That's not to say that I don't play my fair share of feminine women and masculine men, but things are much broader and complex than that!

Yeah I hadn’t thought of it either until a partner brought it up when I asked about character creation. I was like cool I can play whomever your most comfortable with, I genuinely don’t have a preference.

But yeah for the most part it’s like I can’t play this particular character trope because I’m not this particular gender. Then I ask them, okay but how many people in real life do you know who are this trope. It usually gives them a bit of a pause.

Because even if they do know somewhat stereotypical people in real life it still humanizes them. So I just tell them think of that person when writing your character and you’ll be fine.

Okay as a ABO fan I will agree it is totally super weird. I don't expect anyone to get into it and be comfortable who isn't also into particular kinks that relate to the trope. ABO in and of itself doesn't have to be NSFW you can do total tame, safe, non sexual ABO I've done it myself; it was very political, the ABOness was what drove the politics of the world. However, yes in general it is a hyper sexual trope in fandom settings, based on debunked wolf research from the 1940s warped into a kink experience. And personally I love it!

ABO is a trope actually. The kinks that can be played out and are common in ABO are the sexual component. The trope itself isn't inherently NSFW that is a misconception!

Edit: History the trope of ABO also overlaps with another less commonly known but related trope Sentinel Verse.

I'm not into A/B/O, but I knew it wasn't JUST kink. Thank you so, so much for explaining it in another way. It sounds a lot like power dynamics, just with added genetic/racial? things (and I love power dynamics, politics, and all that stuff, so I understand how this could be enjoyable).

Lucyfer You're welcome it is one of my favorite tropes and I know it has such a shitty rap because of how pervasive the hyper sexual content is. But you can totally play with the trope using power dynamics and various elements that define the trope.

I mean for crying out loud Beastars uses elements of ABO in it and it's hugely popular without being a porno the way everyone thinks ABO is! XD
