hi i make bad decisions
INTRODUCTION
You are a hero.
Not just any hero, but a hero of legend.
A hero who spat in the face of impossible odds, and overcame that which could not be overcome. Your name will be passed down from generation to generation as a folk song; as a story that mothers would tell their children as they are tucked into bed; as an undeniable record of humanity's ability to survive and come together in times of catastrophe.
Whether you produced a miracle cure in your alchemy lab, slew hordes of vile demons with your band of allies, or overthrew a tyrannical regime through sheer cunning, you will forever be remembered as the hero who saved the world.
But this is not your world.
-
Welcome to Sheol, the Void of Worlds... where heroes come to die. You have been summoned, chosen for your renown as a savior of your world like many others before you. Perhaps you were considered a chosen one in the past, or the messenger of an ancient deity, but here? Here, you are nothing. People like you die on day one. People like you end up in mass graves, dumped into bottomless canyons where filthy scavengers feast like kings. There are forces on this wicked planet that defy comprehension, forces that could only be born from the deepest pits of your nightmares. But even still, heroes like you are its only hope. And if you do not succeed, then one can only pray that the next ones in line can learn at least one thing from your untimely death.
THE STORY
You are a hero summoned by the council magistrates of Wyngard Empire - one of many nations who are now in the practice of calling forth heroic souls. In the marble halls of the Imperial Consulate, one quickly learns of their immediate position, and of the choices presented to them. Stripped from your family and friends, you arrive alone and a stranger. You are given the option of settling here as a common denizen of Sheol for the rest of your life, or assisting this world in its never ending fight against Uryale - a being described as a devourer of worlds. Each world it lands upon is called a 'Sheol' world or a 'Void' world, the latest bastion of defense against this eldritch nightmare before it moves on to the next. If left unchecked, the entire universe will become vacant of life. Whichever the case, each hero will be marked with a magical insignia that identifies them as an outworlder who was summoned - and they may be judged accordingly.
... Or, maybe you're no hero at all. Perhaps you were simply living out your life here as a farmhand, or a soldier marching for your nation. Regardless, if one thing is ever true, it is that heroes arise from unexpected places, and this world is no different. The only thing for certain is that your fate will be invariably tied into the affairs of the clash with Uryale, whether you wished to do so or not.
THE DETAILS
[Magic] The way magic works differs between different worlds, so feel free for your character to operate on their own magic system as long as it is defined in some manner in your character sheet.
In Sheol, magic nodes exist in all living creatures that are capable of harnessing mana. Like a muscle, when worked regularly it can become stronger, when overexerted it can suffer damage, and when left unused it can shrivel. Using even the simplest form of magic requires skill, time, and dedication. For example, a novice mage can only focus on one node at a time, like the one inside of their hand - however, the power of their spell can be significantly amplified by a much more experienced mage by chaining their hand node to the one in their elbow, shoulder, and even their heart. Objects imbued with magic nodes can be used as an extension of one's body when casting spells, but will usually never have magic properties of their own. Magical items can only exist if they were carried over from other worlds, or if an object was permanently imbued through a potent magic spell.
[Technology] As a fantasy RP, there is some technology but it is relatively primitive (even among other worlds). Single shot muskets, rudimentary steam power in more advanced nations (which Wyngard is not), and so on.
[Races] Your character can be just about any bipedal race or human equivalent, but they cannot be gods (demigods are okay). Many fantasy races will be available as being native to Sheol, but races/creatures that are NOT native include: Vampires, lycans, and goblins.
[Uryale] No one has ever seen Uryale, much less know what it actually is. All speculation derives from the nightmares it spawns, often called Uryans - they are horrific creatures that are known for latching onto lifeforms and deforming them into monstrosities, such as Uryan dogs or Uryan spiders. It is possible for something to be possessed only partially, but such cases are extremely rare.
[Power] Due to the nature of the RP, it is expected that your character may be 'overpowered' on some level - this can be apparent when interacting with native characters/creatures of Sheol. However, the forces of Uryale (not all) will be significantly more dangerous than most threats your characters have encountered, not to mention the inherent threat of other summoned heroes if they choose to fight you.
[Danger] If your character engages in risky or reckless behavior they WILL become injured, ranging from light to debilitating. Of course, playing cautiously has its own downfalls as well so be sure to play thoughtfully.
-
[Nation: Wyngard] A heavily populated and heavily fortified empire known primarily for its military strength and paranoid territorial expansion policies. The land of mercs, weapon trading, and nationalistic fanaticism.
You are here.
[Nation: Terrarium of Magic] A mobile ring of islands in the sky inhabited by scholars, mages, and mage enthusiasts. Will bomb the hell out of you from a hundred miles away if you look at them funny.
[Nation: Moontree] A once hidden grove of usually neutral forest dwellers who have been recently occupied by forces of the Terrarium in order to exploit their natural mana resources. They will side with just about anyone if it means they can get rid of these guys.
[Nation: Golden Well] Industrial and economic powerhouse. A central hub of commerce between nations, and the only nation capable of producing (simple) firearms. Don't get on their bad side.
[Nation: Leucinine] A rising nation that quickly developed after miraculously re-taking a peninsula that had fallen to Uryale. Notable for its Grand Spire, which mages and artisans have been working to restore. Not many know its true purpose, but if word of mouth is to be believed, it may serve an important role in fighting back against Uryale.
FACTIONS
There are many factions in Sheol. You do not have to belong to one, but here are notable ones to choose from (or you can simply create your own).
[Faction: Wyngard Imperial Army] Soldiers under the direction of Emperor Theon.
[Faction: Circle of Chosen] A coalition of summoned heroes who have chosen to work together as one cohesive team in order to battle Uryale's forces.
[Faction: Doves] A neutral organization of peacekeepers with members representing each nation that act in service of preventing war.
[Faction: Seven Arrows] An infamous guild of mercenaries that sell their arms to the highest bidder.
