That is his punishment.” [/div][/div][div class=speaks]As the blond made eye contact with their resident witch doctor, fire wielder, and snake whisperer extraordinaire, a sinking feeling burrowed its way into the pit of his stomach. It seemed like Adisa was staring into the depths of his soul, but Nik didn't care, even as the inkling of something sinister or perhaps just dark wound through the other's gaze, and into his own dark blue eyes. Because there was nothing to hide. If asked, he'd show all the swatches of paint that made up his person.

This strange glimpse into Nik's soul, or perhaps his frame of mind, or perhaps something else entirely, made the blond raise his eyebrow to the point of creating a nigh acute angle. Was he digging beneath the depths, not unlike Stella had the power to? Was he trying to divine some answer to Nik's plea? Was he stoned somehow, and if so, where was the weed?

Or maybe it was just all in Nik's head. A bad feeling, that's it.

"Can you justβ€”"
"You think a stone can cure you?" The other man began to cackle, and Nik's brows drew down into a look he didn't often give other people, if he could help it. A deadpan settling of his strong brows, flattened, eyes burrowing into the other man's face like a blade across skin, or perhaps a palette knife on a thickly laden canvas. This wasn't amusing, it wasn't fun and games, it wasn't some wry thing to laugh at.
"If you're doing that annoying thing Stella does, please dβ€”"
"It can't take the sickness away, it's a part of you now. But it can push it back, keep you as you." Nik's gaze dropped away from irritation into something...not unlike hope. Here, even just over the scantest span of time, he found a new home. Here, he realized the darkness that trickled down his spine was no macabre romance. He wanted to stay, to be himself. And not dip his hands down into the guts of his friends, for shits and giggles. But it pressed there, it screamed at him, his little warning ghost and stupid pseudo-intellectual quotes waging war against what it wanted of him.

Whatever it truly was.

"May I see it?" Adisa stretched out his shaking hand, and Nik passed him the stone, fingers uncurling to leave it behind in his palm.
"...thank you," Nik said, the short sentence light and warm. Like a mist of white acrylic on a blackened landscape, barely there but seen. Nik was about to pull his hand away, but the other man grasped him tightly at the wrist. Tilting his head to the side, the blond stared at Adisa from beneath strong brows, a deep indigo stare, questioning, wanting his hand back, but also wondering if this was the part of the process. His brow quirked.

He also wondered if part of the process was him being cryptic or not telling him what the hell was going on.

Adisa began to chant in a language that was foreign to Nik, but if we're speaking realistically here, Nik had been sheltered by much of this for a long time. Everything was foreign to him. Despite what the Witch in Queens had taught him, despite what blessed people he had known in his lifeβ€”a fair-haired nurse with a heart of gold, and as always, possibly Dianaβ€”he kept the demons and the magic in his art.

He hadn't truly wanted to ever believe in any of this. He had wanted to stick one foot into hell, enjoy the sin of it all, romanticize it, cavort around like a hellion, and pretend the real stuff wasn't actually real.

Until it caught up with him, apparently, and Satan tried to make him his bitch, or something equally daft.

Ignorance is bliss, they say.

The air around Nik slowly grew heavier, as the man retained his wrist, striking him forward so that the two were far too close for comfort. Nik made a noise of annoyance, his jaw clenching, and the chanting grew louder. Dayglow, almost neon, lights blazed against the heavy dark air, in letters and symbols he didn't quite understand. This was outside of his realm of expertise. He could stab things, play grab-ass, run fast, paint, stitch people up, crack a joke, and that was about it. A bit simple, in that aspect.

But that was the only way he kept sane. When you think too much on things you don't understand, you can drive yourself mad.

Adisa's eyes put forth an unnatural light, his irises drawing Nik closer, who was staring but also quite uncomfortable. He wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, however. Straining his arm, Adisa whipped it palm forward, and placed the stone in his fist, closing his weathered fingers around Nik's own to clasp it.

Then, it got real.

Tearing from his veins, black as pitch, like a toxin being sucked out through a straw the size of a needle point, through his skin, coursing white-hot heat through his hand, it spun into that stone in his grasp. Nik could see it crawling like a spider's web, dark and dauntless, trying to grab hold of him still, trying its best to nestle within the warmth of his body. Nik clenched his teeth, and grimaced through the pain, and spat out a sentence peppered with cussing. He snarled it out, pissed off that he even had to go through this to begin with.

"For fucks sake, Iβ€”don't even...Know. Why it fucking. Wanted. Me, inβ€”The first place. You fuckβ€”God damn...mother FUCKER...Satan can dere-lick my ballsβ€”" Nik's sentence ended with the stone searing hot in his palm. He dropped it, it clattered to the floor, stained red like blood. Adisa's fingers around his wrist began to lax. Until they pulled away completely, and Nik's arm ached from whatever hurricane had blasted through his body.

"Thanks, Snake Charmer...God that hurt like getting my arm fucked in half by a two-by-four..." he spat out, falling back on his rear, and then slumping onto the ground with his arms laying flat at his sides. The sin within him felt...dissipated. Perhaps, lighter. All he knew was that his gas tank had been filled up a bit, and he was grateful for it.

"Now I just have to find a spoon..."
"What did I do to deserve...Hey! That's myβ€”" Nik reared up in a flash, sweeping forward in a bolt, stopping with deft precision, knees to ground, tips of his fingers to ground, palm to ground, and struck out a hard kick at the man holding his fucking gigantic jar of peanut butter, right in the side of the ass cheek. The water bottle he had gotten for James went flying from his pocket haphazardly the moment his shoe connected with butt, and managed to roll near James enough to be seen.

Pure. Stupid. Luck.

He hadn't yet realized it was Rhys, but he should've, as he had studied the back of the man to the point he'd probably be able to pick it out of a line-up. Perhaps Nik was just exhausted from whatever had just happened, his mind drained, and so he mistook the quarter-view of the haunches he saw for someone else's.

Or maybe he was ruffled that he had to go through whatever the fuck had just happened.

The kick resounded with a loud thwack, and Nik popped back and rose to his feet.

"Oh. Hi, Rhys."

[div class=hidescrollcontent][div class=contentbox]
"Hey yourself--Ms. One Finger Salute." Darius’s smile eased the tension the that had worked its way into the ex-huntresses sinewy shoulders. Luiza almost gave a hefty sigh of relief, but caught herself before she let her guard down.
Oh look he remembered you! Chipper as ever. At its comment, Luiza’s pseudo-smile faltered. As Darius turned back towards James, Luiza let the smile fall from her face, eyes catching on the weapon slung over his shoulder. She’d never particularly liked firearms, they’d been much too boring for her in her days as a hunter. Blades were all about precision, and man did they give her style points.
Precision is the difference between a butcher and a surgeon. There was nothing more terrifying than a marked hunter weaving between enemies, the brief glint of a silver blade flashing as bodies toppled like dominos. Luiza certainly didn’t judge him for the weapon, though. For a gun, it wasn’t so bad, and subconsciously it earned an appreciative nod from the dark-haired woman. Besides, an armed man (or woman) would always have some modicum of respect from her.
"James. James--thats a good name! Sounds very kind. A precaution. Many people kill their fellow man for paranoia--if not just for the act, my father trained us--Military. He was a major before. Ya know... We really don't want to kill people, but it was like this whole change became an excuse for some to stop being...human." Darius had offered a hand to the other young man – James, before turning to the one with blonde hair. Interestingly enough she had found herself becoming more human since developing this unfortunate affliction, which Luiza had long suspected settled in her bones as a result of the influx of monsters and destruction of civilization.
Another name repeated, another name committed to memory by the silent prophet.
Nik. She studied his face for the briefest of moments, trying to get a sense of who he was, but her mind drew blanks. After so many years of suppressing her own emotions and disregarding those of others, reading into people was a skill Luiza thoroughly lacked. It was asinine to think that such an art would come easy. Glancing at all three of the men, the prophet’s thoughts wandered to what they’d been before all of this. While certain they had all faced tragedy, she wasn’t so sure any had experienced a metamorphosis like her own. Humbling indeed to be in the company of those who were certain of who they were.
James gave her but the briefest of acknowledgements, Nik swiftly departing after a short exchange of words with James, leaving Luiza stunned in the wake of his absence, left standing awkwardly with the two young men. As dark eyes trailed the wisps of smoke shadowing Nik, the prophet wrinkled her nose. It wasn’t the smoke that bothered Luiza. She’d made a point throughout the years to avoid those who were corrupted. It was her greatest fear after all. Nik didn’t outwardly seem wicked or malicious, but the voice inside screamed at her to run. It was enough to drive a girl mad.
β€œShut up!” She snapped, head swiveling between Darius and James in panic as her eyes glazed over as if a deer in the headlights. Just like that, the confidence drained from her body, shoulders sagging as she cupped her hands over her mouth. If her skin hadn't been so dark, the woman might have turned sheet white.
Shit. One grandiose fuck-up and now she was the crazy prophet. For a moment she stared blankly at the young man before turning heel and exiting the room, barely having the restraint to keep from running.
Inside, the voice only laughed. Luiza felt sick. She needed to get out of here. Any fondness she had for the people in this building were only a burden to her, reminders that she wasn’t normal and for all she’d become, and something to be feared. For years she’d lived without the weight of emotional attachment, able to operate on a daily basis without reliance on any other. Why she by no means needed anyone here, it was a lifetime of social isolation that was now catching up to her. Luiza wanted to know people, wanted to hear their stories and share their pain. She wanted to feel comfortable in her own skin, a vulnerable sack of shit that some people may come to enjoy the presence of.
Unlike the Luiza she’d been before, she desperately felt the need for a human connection. Slamming a fist against a wall, the prophet felt the urge to kill bubbling through her. It was the only thing she was capable of, something that would take her mind off things. There had to be more monsters lurking around, right?

Tags: CupAndCough CupAndCough Paarthurnax Paarthurnax [/div][/div][div class=title]James[/div][div class=text]The way Darius took in his name made James' face brighten a bit more. He thought about saying something but he kept quiet and gave the young man a friendly but firm handshake as he offered it. He listened closely to what Darius said afterwards, noticed that the words were chosen with care, and nodded in agreement as Darius finished his sentence. James sighed before he spoke himself: "You haven't tried to kill us yet, so I don't really worry about that anymore." James flashed him a smile, basically saying 'let's not think about all the shit out there and try to make the best off it'. That was a philosophy he still felt kinda new to, he had just taken it up the past day, but he thought it suited him much better than his former way of mostly hope and careless thinking he had wandered through the apocalypse with.

James could barely contain a chuckle as Nik was called sir by Darius and looked up to his blond friend with a big grin on his face. He then watched Nik walk off towards the fire to get the water bottle and hopefully get help from Adisa. After a couple of moments, he looked back to Luiza and Darius, felt the awkward quiet for a second and decided to talk again. "Sorry, I would've said hi earlier, but yesterday was a really shitty and exhausting day...", it was directed to Darius a bit more, but he just hoped to maybe get a smile onto any of their faces as he started to recite some of the events of the last day, " that included fighting at least one pack of hellhounds, the biggest fucking axe I've ever seen, a damn street race, some puking and me being thrown across a room." He said all of that with his lips forming a slight smile, he wasn't complaining or whining but everything he said was still true.

He smiled at the two in front of him, hoping they'd maybe return a smile or say something. He also kept glancing over at Nik, it seemed whatever Adisa was doing was painful. James just wished for it to work. Nik seemed okay as he kicked Rhys in the ass, sending the water bottle he had fetched for James rolling towards him like it was all perfectly planned. But Nik had always seemed okay so far, so James had to ask him later. "There comes my water," he said to himself as he picked the still rolling bottle up.

James enjoyed his first long sip of the water, just now realizing how thirsty he really was. He wiped his mouth with his sleeve as he finished and at that moment Luiza yelled at nobody. He looked up at her his expression a mix of being startled, worried and perplexed. Her face was the perfect impression of a shocked 'fuck did I just say that out loud' before she rushed off. "Hey, are you-" James made few steps following her but stopped as he let the words trail off as well, he barely just knew her and she didn't seem like she wanted to talk about it so he'd let her be and instead turned back to Darius with an asking and confused look on his face.[/div]

He hadn't seen it coming. If he had, then maybe he could have avoided the blow. Pain rocketed up from his left ass cheek, the noise of the impact somehow not registering until he was half falling towards the floor. A loud half yell left him, a string of muffled curses in another language falling from his lips. He cradled the jar to his chest, tucking it in much like a football as he plummeted towards that unforgiving tile. His left hand shot out, somehow managing to keep himself upright. Steeled azure snapped towards the source of his fumbling, irritation welding itself into his facial expression. The laughter evaporated from his eyes. The warmth that had swirled in his gaze was gone faster than summer rain on the tarmac.
He pivoted, scowl forming across his lips as he went to confront whoever had kicked him.

"Oh. Hi, Rhys."

Blue eyes flickered down, taking note of the blond who was now getting to his feet. His eyebrow twitched in irritation, jaw clenching as his free had reached behind to rub the pain out of his ass cheek.

"Don't you 'Hi, Rhys' me. What the fuck!? Santo cazzo Madre di Cristo! That hurt you big bag of dicks! Nessuno mi unfungulo! Jesus fucking-right in my goddamn ass! You could have fucking kicked me anywhere! But no, you had to plant your fucking boot right on my ass, you insufferable blond jackass. How did you even fucking do that!? And did you just kick me over a jar of fucking peanut butter, stronzino!? I mean I probably would have kicked someone for peanut butter but that's not the fucking point, what the shit, Niklas!? Dio cane! My ass is going to have a perminate fucking bruise now. Holy fuck. Porco dio! I swear to God if it was anybody else I would beat the fucking shit out of you."

It was by some miracle that he said all of that all in one breath. The words twinged not only with his native bronx accent, but something else that was a little more foreign. The Italian broke to English accents and then back again, almost as if the bilingual center of his brain had been completely overridden. His face was flushed from both anger and embarrassment, hand still attempting to rub the throbbing sensation from his glutes. He was visibly fuming, glaring daggers at the afflicted with a kind of acidity that might have given anyone else pause. Nik was different though. He didn't cower from his glare and that somehow frustrated and intrigued the ex-detective. The rant too held very little bite, despite the harshness of the words. He stomped forward, leering down at the slightly shorter man. Rhys wanted to scream. This man got under his skin in all sorts of ways he thought to be impossible. He narrowed his eyes at him, leaning down slightly so that their faces were a mere inches apart.

"You'll pay for that later." It was somewhere between a hiss and a whisper but the promise was there. He thrust the jar of peanut butter into the afflicted's arms now far too irritated to enjoy the prospect of eating some of that creamy goodness.

As he passed his bag, Rhys snatched up the rest of the bag of chips he had gotten from the gas station. He chewed on a handful of chips grumpily, striding over towards the center of the room.

"I hate to interrupt whatever it is everyone is doing at the moment. But if you haven't noticed, it's cold as balls in here and that fire isn't going to cut it."

His voice carried clear across the lobby, chip bag in hand as he glanced around at the survivors who were making their way into the little base camp they had set up. "There's a generator in the basement. It'll give us some power and maybe we can get the heat working from there. But beyond those barricades...." Rhys shrugged slightly as he gestured towards the blockade that had been set up earlier. "I don't know what could be lurking there. So just be careful, pair or group up, and let's clear this place out. Grigs why don't you handle the bacement and I'll work on getting some gas."

He didn't wait for confirmation from the soldier, figuring that the man would be happier engaging in battle than going out into the cold to grap some gas. His azure eyes moved around camp once more, waiting to make sure that everyone understood before he started moving again. The bag of chips now empty and crumpled in his hand. As he passed Nik, he paused, looking at the blond with a little less irritation than before.

"Come on. Let's find some jackets and a shovel. I have a feeling this isn't going to be very fun."

With that, he strolled towards what had to open up to a back room. He moved with the sort of confidence that someone has when they know the general idea of where things were. He pulled two shovels from the closet, leaning them against the wall before going back to dig around. He threw a coat out behind him, followed by a pair of ragged gloves, hoping that Nik had caught on that those items were meant for him. Rhys grabbed one more coat and a hat that didn't look too warm but hopefully would keep him from freezing his ears off. He shrugged the coat on over his jacket, glad that it was giant enough to do so. He would need all the protection against the cold as he could get. At least Nik got some gloves.

Rhys picked up the shovel nearest him and looked over at the blond. "Ready, Blondie?"
He waited a couple seconds for the response before walking out into the elements, trusting that Grigs or Emma could micromanage if need be.

At that moment, the towel dropped. Did Grigori know that was because she was mostly clothed? Probably not. He would probably have a heart attack. Stella needed a cardiac arrest victim beneath her like she needed a hole in the head.

β€œHelp me down Grigs?”

She crawled off of his shoulders, using his arm as her assistance, and stood before him.

β€œDoes this fit?” She asked, wide eyed and questioning towards the larger man.

She did a cutesy little spin, like girls in the time before may have done with dresses. This wasn’t a dress, no, not at all.
This was a deep blue jacket, marked with various insignias she didn’t know the meaning of, and an FBI patch on the shoulder, and printed on the back. Under it she wore a black camisole, breasts pushed up like Marie Antoinette by the jacket’s straps. A pair of black...athletic leggings? Sheer luck that her size would be among the items.

She held black combat boots in her left hand, and thick grey wool socks in the other. As a finishing touch, she flipped down the reflective aviator sunglasses to cover her eyes.

β€œDo I look badass yet?”

After draining the dark webs of affliction from Nik, Adisa fell backward and grabbed his temples. He mustered a meager smile at him before slinking off out of view from the rest of the group. The pain, suffering, the fucking darkness that just got pulled from the man across from him was sickening. He could hear it calling to him, countless whispers begging him to join them in the twisted joy of evil and chaos. He couldn't bear it, he couldn't bear for the voices to come back. He reached into his coat and grabbed the pipe which he had used a night or so prior. Magical in nature, it functioned just as well when used in a normal situation. Adisa reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small baggy of cinnamon sugar coloured flakes. He began to tremble and opened the bag hastily, visibly sweating now. He poured a few flakes of the bags mysterious contents into the pipe. He pulled the pipe up to his lips and inhaled. The smoke flew from the pipe's bowl, dancing through the stem and into the Prophets lungs. The drug was flooded into his blood, pumping out through his entire body. Every muscle, every fiber of his being clung to the mystery drug. But his brain, oh his brain relished it. His neurons eagerly grabbed the molecules and clung to them as ig their life depended on it. That's when shit got real.

((Suggested Music Gorillaz - Hollywood)) With a burst colour Adisa was flung into a heavy trip. The darkness stopped calling as butterflies flew in from the windows. The ground swirled and moved, grass sprouting up and swaying in the wind according to the Witch Doctor's breath. He smiled softly and slowly got to his feet. He wobbled slightly as he got his bearings in his new world. Snakes wormed through the air, and the group was dancing among a patch of neon signs that burst beneath their footsteps. The voices he heard perfectly moments prior now echoed and wavered through the hazy air. A glint appeared in Adisa's eyes as he snuck off to enjoy his little trip alone.

His memory of the blizzard faded away into a melting pot of dreamlike thoughts and recollections. Nothing seemed real, not even reality. ANd Adisa relished it, he was free from pain and normality. Free to do whatever he damn well pleased. Of course, within the confines of his own muddled mind. You see, his wonder drug didn't just silence the darkness that nagged at his soul, but his very connection to the Veil. No Veil, no magic. But that didn't bother Adisa one bit as he danced through the halls, trailing his hands against the walls. The split apart into beautiful serpents and insects, scuttering and slithering alongside him. It was entrancing, and Adisa was lost in the trip, going all the way down the rabbit hole as the drug continued to flood his mind and body. He felt alive, tingling with energy and practically doing gymnastics down the halls as he listened contentedly to the music within his mind. A cacophonous symphony of mismatched instruments and vocals. But to him, it rivaled any music he had ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Anise Anise ((HELP)) It was hard to tell what he came across in the office space. Was it part of his mind, or was it really. Did it even matter? Adisa chuckled to himself as he jumped from thought to thought, getting down onto his knees. How beautifully red the little thing was, he wondered if it tasted like cherries. He reasoned the only way to find out would be to have a bite of his own. But as he drew closer and closer towards the minuscule figure it turned and faced him with that hideous face. Adisa froze up like a statue and gazed down at the creature, with a wide grin plastered merrily to his face as the creature drew closer.

Lilina Ovelia
As Lilina finished up talking to the spirit, he noticed something odd, it was as if she was being watched. She checked to see if there was anyone looking at her. To her surprise, she saw a man looking at her. The man was tall and a bit blonde. The little witch looked at him in annoyance and decided to walk away from that spot. She felt cold but did not sit near the fire. She decided to throw away her bag of tongues by throwing it somewhere, hoping that nobody would smell it and see it. Lilina threw it near a trash can and left it there. She proceeded to go near the survivors and sit next to them silently. She felt her head spin and her vision blur. A voice was ringing inside her head, "Death will fall for you!", making her dazed and shutting her eyes.

''"For fucks sake, Iβ€”don't even...Know. Why it fucking. Wanted. Me, inβ€”The first place. You fuckβ€”God damn...mother FUCKER...Satan can dere-lick my ballsβ€”'' Nik's words were heartbreakingly genuine, Alaska watched as their resident witch doctor finished his magic, the stone dropping to the floor, and Nik following it. Luiza had brushed past her existing the room. Looking at the direction of where she came from with confusion, she locked eyes with James for the briefest moment, her non verbal question lingering.

''Now i just have to find a spoon!'' What happened after the detective voiced his intention? pure CHAOS.

The quasi devil dove with super human speed landing a kick on Rhys's ass making him almost fall over. ''THE PEANUT BUTTER!'' Alaska's features relaxed a bit now that he had actually saved it from falling, she sighed in relief, then broke into laughter following the blessed's string of curses.

The mixed confused look on Rhys's face as he walked up to his counterpart telling him that he'll pay for that later made Alaska blush a little. Was that... was that....Naaaaah. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME she thought to herself before shaking the thought of them together away and listened their leader's commands: ''"I don't know what could be lurking there. So just be careful, pair or group up, and let's clear this place out. Grigs why don't you handle the bacement and I'll work on getting some gas."

Alaska only nodded as they left the building, looking from one survivor to the other until her eyes fell on James again. She trusted him the most here and if she'd have to group up with anyone to go check this weird place out, she'd feel better going with him, she trusted his fighting style. Alaska now walked up to him and Darius. ''What happened to Luiza?'' her words held genuine concern, she looked into Darius's light brown eyes and asked the younger man politely: ''Can you go check on her? James and I will clear the cafeteria while the others finish their work, maybe we'll find some supplies if we're lucky...You guys be careful ok?''. Her words were followed by a faint smile, she reached for her hair and tightened it up in a ponytail so that it wouldn't obstruct her movement and waited for the guys to respond.

''Death will fall for you'' The new comer, now seated in one corner, her head spinning and her eyes shutting voiced those words. Alaska only blinked in respond, yeah..... they were all doomed, it was to crapocalypse.

[/div][div class=speakeasy]β€œThe man who has a conscience suffers whilst acknowledging his sin. That is his punishment.” [/div][/div][div class=speaks]Nik hadn't quite realized the power behind his kick, or perhaps how unprepared for a round-house to the rump the other man had been. Or maybe, he thought, he was just embarrassed at being struck in the cheek with a shoe. Nik stared on as Rhys went into a flurry of a tirade, his eyebrows raising nowβ€”actuallyβ€”further than they had at any other time thus far. It seemed like this group was intent on surprising him, which was a rare thing indeed, and his brows were taking up the charge in terms of expressing that aspect.

"Stop being such a baby, princess. You're lucky I didn't strike your nuts. I thought maybe Ezra was stealing from me, what with my brain currently being an overcooked noodle," Nik snorted with a genial smile, and stooped to pick up his cigarette, that he had placed nearby. Back in his mouth, he used his new lighter to light the thing and shook his head, his smile spreading across his face like a lightning bolt.

"If I was anybody else, huh? Heh." Rhys glared daggers at him, the detective's face a mere few inches from his own, but Nik didn't break eye contact. He wasn't intimidatedβ€”that wasn't his way. Nik blew the smoke to the side out of courtesy, it swirled around his head like a smear of titanium white mixed with payne's gray. Life was art in motion, and this scene could have very well been painted on a piece of linen without a moment's hesitation. Or maybe scrawled out in a comic, perhaps.

"You'll pay for that later."
"Uh-huh. Sure I will." When his peanut butter was returned, Nik took it in his hands, and the smile spread into a razor-sharp grin, the corner of his mouth quirking like a short brush stroke. All over some damned peanut butter. Who would've been dumb enough to snag his food? Rhys, apparently, and not Ezra.

The world was a very, very strange place, indeed.

"I hate to interrupt whatever it is everyone is doing at the moment. But if you haven't noticed, it's cold as balls in here and that fire isn't going to cut it." Nik rolled his eyes to the sky, as everything now shifted to some doom-and-gloom assortment of tasks to keep all of them alive. It wasn't that he didn't have a survival instinct, it was that they just couldn't catch a break. Heaven and Hell weren't interested in giving them a reprieve. He would've killed for a chance to nap, especially after the ritual Adisa had pulled, but that wasn't realistically going to happen anytime soon. That ritual had been his own personal kick in the ass, or rather, the entire body.

Now with his soul a bit lighter, and all these gifts in his pocket, one might think he wasn't as intent to pass them around. Not so. Everyone deserved a little glimmer or glow, especially now, with the world as scorched and dismal.

"There's a generator in the basement. It'll give us some power and maybe we can get the heat working from there. But beyond those barricades...."

Nik strolled over to his backpack and gathered up his things inside of it, then hefted it across the floor, a bit away from the fire. He stooped down, and with the precision of a man who had often pulled this trick before, snuck the large jar of peanut butter inside of Rhys' bag, while pretending to fuss over the peanut butter the other man had just attempted to lift. From behind, he'd just be seen as fussing, perhaps mumbling under his breath. Not so. He left his bag there, beside the other man's, and stood to crack his back again, hands in the air, linked at the fingers, palms to the sky. It was an audible crack.

"I don't know what could be lurking there. So just be careful, pair or group up, and let's clear this place out. Grigs why don't you handle the bacement and I'll work on getting some gas."

Nik wondered just what miraculous assignment he'd be given. Maybe he'd get set up with Haruka, who'd no doubt make small-talk about perverted things while Nik made a distressed face the entire time. Maybe he'd get lucky and wind up with Alaska or James. Ezra was a possibility of course, and he'd finally get a chance to flex more sass. Or, maybe it'd be Stella, and he could finally give her the necklace he found...

"Come on. Let's find some jackets and a shovel. I have a feeling this isn't going to be very fun."
"Nonsense, it's always fun when I'm around."
Nik's response was laced with a grin, and he followed after the other man, only to find a coat and some gloves thrown his way, which he caught without missing a beat.
"How thoughtful," he said with a catty smile, cigarette muffling his sentence, genuine in his sentiment, but of course he had to ham it up, as was his way. Nik slid the coat on, and marveled at the color. It was a great color, perhaps one of his favorites. The gloves were ragged, but better than nothing. Rhys had scored a coat and a hat, so he'd at least be better-off than he had been last night...when the blond had carted the frozen copsicle back inside.

"Be good, kids. And good luck!" he shouted back at the others, throwing Alaska a wink, and James a wave.
"And Ezraβ€”don't touch my shit," he said with a snort and a playful cackle.

"Ready, Blondie?" Nik snatched his own shovel and hefted it into the air in a short movement, spinning the thing a bit to catch it in his grip once more.
"Always. Let's go," he said, muffled behind his cigarette, the pale stick clenched nearer the side of his mouth.

And off they were, striking out into the cold, shovels in hand. The cold hit his face like a ton of bricks, and he shivered visibly. He loved the snow, loved it. It was beautiful, and soft, and wonderful to paint, and pleasant. It was one of the perks of having grown up in New England, but it also meant ice and cold, and shivers. It had once met hot chocolates, warm caps, garish sweaters, and laughs on ice skates.

Now, not so much, as it was all gigantic drifts and Revenants and the like. But once they were well enough outside, Nik gave Rhys a pleasant smile.

He had a family of friends again. People he cared about. Despite the horrors they faced...

It was close enough, he thought. Even without the hot chocolate.

He was never prepared for the cold. It was harsh and unpleasant and it cut through him just as easily as a bullet would pierce flesh. The coat he had found didn't fit right, too loose in the abdomen, too short in the arms, the only thing he had to be thankful for was that whoever wore this coat before him had very broad shoulders. It made movement a little less constrictive, but beyond that it was just another haphazard layer thrown on in hopes that it would block out some of the cold. At least the hat was decently warm. He could count his lucky stars for that. He held the hood down as the winds blew towards them with such a force that it caused the already fallen snow to swirl in the air. Rhys wasn't sure if it was still snowing, but if he had to guess it was at least three feet deep, maybe more.

He caught the smile out the corner of his eye. Azure orbs widening a bit, the weight of his gaze moving to the blond as if to confirm that the grin wasn't just his imagination. His right boot skidded against the bottom step, focus suddenly back on trying to keep his balance as his hand shot out to grip the railing. Another string of hushed partial english curses left his mouth as he righted himself once more. The flesh of his cheeks were stained red from the cold (and certainly not from the fact that he had almost fallen on his ass in front of Nik).

His boot met the snow with a crunch, leg sinking in deep as he came off the step. The snow banked somewhere around his thigh and it wasn't going to make walking easy. The vague outline of the vechiles could still be deciphered in the distance. The truck sat there almost like a vacant shell with frosty white gathered on all sides. They were going to have to dig her out if they had any shot of getting gas for the generator. Rhys sighed, his breath mixing with the cloud of white that swarmed around them. He could feel the cold of the snow seeping in through his joggers and he suddenly wished that he had another pair of pants. At least his socks weren't wet yet.

He set off trudging through the snow, knees high and head bent as he attempted to cut through the wind as well. He had never seen a blizzard this bad before...at least in New Jersey and it seemed almost...unnatural.

"Jesus Christ I'm going to freeze my fuckin balls off."

The grumble left his mouth as he used the shovel as a sort of stabalizer. It would have taken longer to just shovel a path to the car but now he was really regretting not taking the time to do that. By the time he had reached the truck his breathing was already a bit labored. Rhys glared at the snow like it had done some sort of personal offense. He cast his gaze up then, looking toward the man who had the unfortunate luck to be dragged out into the cold with him. The snow gathered in his blond hair dusting it with white. It clung to his eyelashes and bits of his beard, making a visage that Rhys wouldn't have been able to get out of his mind even if he wanted to. He didn't realize that he was staring until a particularly frigid wind knocked him from his fixation. Rhys turned back to the truck, shovel in hand and lips set into a firm line.

"I think I left the gas can in the back seat so if we can shovel out a bit of this we might be okay."

Rhys leaned against the shovel, snagging his hood as it threatened to go flying off. He glanced back at Nik before starting to shovel out the drift that had piled against the car.

Darius hung on James's words, but it did alleviate an unwillingness to shift that opinion of the world. It was hard to release such proven emotions and experiences. People killing and maiming each other to sustain a horrible cycle of survival. Man became rats, feasting upon the corpses. He saw horrors, but were they really so easily put away from his mind? Perhaps not, James, good heart and strong resolve, it was commendable but not refuting to Darius and his world view. But all James gave was a smile for this desire, Darius raised an eyebrow and followed suit with him. Heel and toe. Smirk and smile.

"You guys live with some eccentricity.", He reeled as he heard the adventure the group went on. Lived lives. At least there was one upside to the apocalypse. He looked towards Luiza for a moment. A warm smile. Two upsides. He corrected his train of thought. However Luiza seemed perplexed and assailed by thoughts abound. It worried him somewhat. Grigori had similiar looks once dealing with his prophet very early in his raising of Velska and him. The visions never stopped and constant flow of PTSD bore a heavyweight upon the often brow-beaten man. Darius could swear in solitary moments his father had that he spoke to ghosts--but these specters long since passed. He was dealt to resplve conflict unending of phantoms born of memory.

Darius was similar. Liberia was home once, then he was snatched from it. A gun placed into his childish fingers and forced to shoot. Or die. Darius did not dwell well on those days until Grigori had given him a home within his heart. How difficult the journey of mediation and resolve was, still was. However Darius had not out the man he saw to Grigori. What was so different...

[Im skipping a good deal of the locker room stuff do to time constraint and the lack of writing a paragraph of filler to accompany the story progress only for RPN and mobile to eat my precious time. Im sorry but it want exactly important anyways.]

Grigori left the locker room in posthaste, his disinterest in being used as a daudling figure there was viciously infuriating and mortifying. With hurried pace he caught the tail end of his orders. Grigori was aggressive for the moment. He knew whatever laid down there needed to die. And amongst his rage, bordering on infernal fires, he wanted release. Death was coming.
He took forth a radio from his coat and tossed it at the Blessed. A bit more forceful than before, "Velska you stay here! No wandering.. His near deafening command echoed harrowingly throughout the foyer. His rapid pace, blade and hatchet brandished he stormed the towards the basement. "Send whomever you desire to go with me, I will complete this objective. We exterminate these vermin, now!"

Grigori's annoyance was palpable as he left the scene with a dark and violent aura. Woe be to those in his path.

Darius froze as his father stormed forward. Whatever happened annoyed him greatly, Darius would never pressure an answer for what happened, the horrid aura reminded him of a lion's maw. With a sigh he felt dejected as his father rushed into the depths and Luiza excluded herself. He felt a tad bit alone. It did not help that Velska had been spooked awake by the shouting. Her confusion written heavily on her face as she looked around in utter disorientation.

As Alaska came forth to him, he blushes. Ears reddening. Alaska snuck a concise hit to his thoughts as she pressured him to seek Luiza. He would not agree via words, but a nod and a rushed pace to the prophet. Despite Luiza's outburst of violence againsy the tyranny of lifeless walls, Darius pressed on. Slowly counting his paces as his hand anxiously drew closer to her shoulder.
"Luiza, you wanna go...uh...hunt down some monsters?". It wasn't the easiest way to form a date, but of anything it was extremely sincere, "I'll let you get first dibs?". He spoke as his hand rested compassionately upon her tensed shoulder. Stand by her side, and peeking forth from her flank with a smile. Warming always.

[/div][div class=speakeasy]β€œThe man who has a conscience suffers whilst acknowledging his sin. That is his punishment.” [/div][/div][div class=speaks]The snow around him was heavy, the kind that clumps well when creating makeshift weapons to down your friends (or enemies). But it wasn't that great to wade through, more like slogging through thick, cold sand, clinging up the thighs, inking into the shoes, chilling the bones to brittle nothingness.

Rhys was trying to divine the smile on the blond's face, and the blond kept it in place, resting comfortably as it lead the peanut butter thief to falter...And almost plant himself on the ice slicked ground. Nik let out a snicker, and watched as Rhys barreled forward, face red from the cold and embarrassment. The prided, hidden emotions the detective felt must have been a heavy enough weight to sling his body around like a damned rag doll. Make his face beat red. Steal his words. If he was trying to play it all off, he was doing a terrible job at it.

Nik wasn't the daft sort. He wasn't the type of man to miss all the flustering, and he was sure other people hadn't missed it earlier. Nik played these games often. These games of war, waiting for the other side to concede.

He shook his head, the snow that had made its home there flying free like small jeweled flowers.

Nik's cigarette again, for the second time now, whipped clear out of his mouth and into the air, as snow drifts twirled like prima ballerinas on display around him, casting white dust in their wake.
"Oh, for fucks sake..." he muttered, then caught himself chattering, and brought the collar of his coat around his face as much as humanly possible. The snow was dense in his hair, trapped between hay-colored and sunkissed swipes of brush strokes, inkling wet on his skin. He ran hot in most weather, so this probably wasn't affecting him as badly as Rhys, but the margin was slim. Snow chapped his cheeks and skimmed his lips, and he pressed on, using the shovel to balance himself as he trudged after the other man, using his footsteps to make the trek easier.

High-kneed, wading as if in deep muck, the snow clung, and his pants were wet, and his shoes wet. But at least his torso and hands were dry and relatively warm. Core temperatures, and all that.

"Jesus Christ I'm going to freeze my fuckin balls off."
"Well, we can't have that now, can we?" Nik asked with a chuckle, then his teeth came to chattering again. He was wielding the shovel better than the man in front of him, who had the grace of a six-ton mack truck in the snow. The blond was also doing the smart thing and popping through Rhys' steps, wasting less energy that way.

"Isn't it fuckin' fall?" Nik asked, slogging forward after the other man, his red coat bright like a cardinal in the drifts he was murmuring in, into, and then out of. Snow dashed from his hair as he shook it clean, much not unlike a dog would, because being damp and cold was no fun. He bristled and made a chilled noise, like people do in times like this, deluged by a fucking freak snowstorm.

Nik caught him staring again and narrowed his eyes. This would continue on until the end of time unless he said something. Rhys wasn't as slick as he thought, and certainly nowhere near as slick as he was on the ice.

"I think I left the gas can in the back seat so if we can shovel out a bit of this we might be okay."
"Alright," was all he said, and for a few moments, he stopped, and stared. The chill froze him, and his bones hurt, his skin was rebelling against the onslaught of the weather, but he gazed for too long. Obviously, unabashedly, irrevocably unfettered.

Then the blond rounded over, again following the other man's steps, and started to barrel onwards with his own shovel. Hulking heaps of snow behind himself, whisking the offensive frigid bullshit up and over like he were a well-oiled machine. Timed, and deliberate.

"So, Mr. Peanut Butter. What's up with all the staring? Did I grow a third eye?" He felt he'd win this war, so he gave Rhys a razored smile before going back to digging out the car.

Nik was playing a dangerous game of chicken.

"So, Mr. Peanut Butter. What's up with all the staring? Did I grow a third eye?"

"Mr. Peanut...Butter....?"

He stopped mid shovel, azure orbs tracking over to the blond with an indignant look. He had a bad feeling that Nik would be teasing him about that incident for years to come. It was one of those things that he would probably never drop. He'd be doing something mundane and just hear 'Mr. Peanut Butter' and automatically know he was being called. Rhys's eyebrow ticked in irritation, gaze narrowing into a bit of a glare as the other flashed him a smile. This was getting increasingly annoying; the glances, the stares, the off-handed comments. Rhys wasn't exactly sure what to do with the information presented to him. All the signs were there and yet.....yet he wasn't sure. He never did anything half-assed, it wasn't in him to do so. If he committed, then he committed fully and knowing that....well, it scared him just a bit. He wasn't sure where his head was at right now.

Monica was gone. There was no reason that he couldn't move on with his life, so what was holding him back?
Rhys's gaze moved back to the snow, eyebrows drawn together as his shovel stabbed through the fluffy texture.

"I'm not....I haven't been.....shit."

He twisted to look at the blond, frown plastered across his lips. What was he trying to get him to admit? That his looks lingered a bit too long? Or that he sometimes fixated on certain parts of him? Nik was good looking, there was no denying that, but Rhys didn't want to be caught up in an awkward situation. His gaze flickered away, moving out towards the snowy landscape for a long moment as if he suddenly had this very pressing need to look elsewhere. Rhys shook his head, hood flapping with the motion as he consumed himself with the act of shoveling. "I don't know, I haven't been looking at a fucking calendar recently." He didn't mean for the subject change or the reply to the man's earlier inquiry to come out so sharply.

Rhys bristled at his own tone, feeling like he wanted to scream or punch something or kiss the idiot.
That last thought made him stop again.
He could feel his cheeks heating and prayed that his face wasn't as red as it could have been.
It was too late, he realized with a bit of a start, Nik had already wedged himself so far under his skin that Rhys was powerless to stop the way his emotions reacted. It had happened somewhere along the line. Perhaps it had started at their very first meeting, a corruption in it's own right that wiggled it's way into his heart unknowingly.

He dug the shovel into a bit of show, looking over his shoulder for a second before flinging the snow across. He watched it hit Nik in the back. A smirk twitched across his lips. "Sorry, thought your third eye would have warned you that was coming." The glimmer in his irises was positively mischievous, a look that somehow didn't fit someone who was blessed.

A few seconds later another pile of snow was thrown in the afflicted's direction, this time thwacking him on the side of the head. Snow painted the man white and Rhys let out a low laugh that he had failed to contain.
"That's for kicking me in the ass."
The third pile somehow missed, only hitting the car but it was close enough that a few stray flurries hit Nik in the face.
"Ah sorry, hand slipped. Peanut Butter fingers."
The smile that adorned his face was rueful and his azure eyes glittered with mirth. He put his thoughts from earlier into the back of his mind, knowing that he would burn that bridge when he got there. Worrying about something that might not be anything was a waste of energy after all.

[/div][div class=speakeasy]β€œThe man who has a conscience suffers whilst acknowledging his sin. That is his punishment.” [/div][/div][div class=speaks]"I'm not....I haven't been.....shit." Nik's response was to snort at this statement, and to continue shoveling. The obtuseness was killing him, and he took it out on the pile of snow, much to both their benefits, and made massive headway. The eye narrowing and glares were killing him as well. How could a man be this daft? Well, he had tried to steal his shit, after all. And Nik had thought no one could be that thick. For such a smart, capable person, clearly there were some things Mr. Peanut Butter just didn't understand.

Or didn't want to admit, more likely.

The snow kissed his cheek with a light gale, then bore down on his face with a gust that cut into his skin. Chilled wind flipped through the pile he was still scraping to dig out, and he got an eyeful of cold hell. Barreling through it, his shovel finally made a connection with something more solid. A slight metal scraping sound resounded his victory in this little war, but there was still work to be done.

"I don't know, I haven't been looking at a fucking calendar recently." Rhys' response was sharp, and it seemed to the blond that any attempts at broaching their very real and very, apparently, problematic sexual tension with some finesse would cause the detective to completely miss it. Nik continued to shovel and raised both hisβ€”now frost lacedβ€”brows. This was possibly the fourth time now they were higher on his face than ever before. Preposterous.

"I'm sure it's fall, this is some freak bullshit snowstorm from Helβ€”" In an instant, a verifiable ton of snow was flung at his back from Rhys' shovel. Nik scoffed, loudly, and stuck his shovel into the ground to stare at the other man. Gloved hands perched on the top, gawking at the detective.

"Sorry, thought your third eye would have warned you that was coming." Thinking the worst was over, Nik offered a smirk, and was about to go back to work. Instead, he then shot a glance at Rhys, incredulous, and haughty. With all the sass he could muster, channeling his inner James and amplifying it with Ezra's unholy powers of sarcasm.

"What are you, twelve? Stop fucking aroβ€”" The snow hit the side of his head, and Nik stood there, completely blindsided. This was what it was. He was an adult child. The peanut butter, not comprehending his flirting attempts, Backstreet Boys, the fucking peanut butter. Nik was freezing. His ass was cold, his face was cold, his back was cold, his feet were wet, his head was wet, he was cold, and this was horrible weather, and he had had enough.

"That's for kicking me in the ass." Another attack of snow flung his way, but it barely missed him.

"Ah sorry, hand slipped. Peanut Butter fingers." Without saying a word, Nik reared up a mound of snow in his shovel and flung it Rhys' face. But here's where the difference was. As the other man was getting a face full of that frigid hell, Nik nabbed a fistful of wet, heavy snow, balled it up, and flung it afterwards with the least amount of downtime possible between attacks. For a two-for-one combo.

"That's for trying to steal my food, you peanut butter bandit!" He bellowed, then broke into a laugh so rich it could've been its own symphony.

Nik didn't fuck around when it came to snowball fights.

He had had a very large group of friends back in the time before the crappocalypse. They had often gone to war in the snow.

Olive had been one of the worst, as she had been so tiny, and hard to hit. Henry had been the easiest as he was as dumb as a bucket of apples and stood there, slack jawed, still not drinking his hot cocoa. Percy preferred to stand on the sidelines, drink her cocoa, and sneak in a throw, like a bastard. When he had been able to spend time with Penny, who drifted in and out of his life like the wind was now whipping at his face, she'd bludgeon him with the biggest snowballs she could make, then profusely apologize afterwards when he ended up falling on his ass on the ice and hurting himself. She had been a damned typhoon, but she had had a big heart, too.

The most fun had always been Diana. Stalking up to him after belting out a deafening war cry, or perhaps running full force, and slamming snow down his shirt, trying to tackle him, and use her charms to win the day. They'd always fall on the snow laughing until they cried, cold and tired...but happy.

Nik ditched the shovel, snagged more snow with his gloved hands, bolted forward, half slipping but mostly maintaining trajectory, and barreled at Rhys with the intent to slam his face with a full-on assault of a well crafted snowball. Right in the face, like the old prank of smashing a pie and getting a rise from the sheer ruinous nature of it all.

That didn't go as planned however, or maybe it was perfectly planned, and instead Nik's generally well-tuned guidance system and balancing prowess gave out and he smashed into the other man, awkwardly, the pair of them falling into a snow drift.

Then, the laughter started, Nik couldn't quite stop. Not in the least bit. It was like a symphony, lows and highs, erupting into something, dying down, until he laughed like he had on their drive with the ridiculous mixed CD.

Nothing coming out, just the movements of laughter, his stomach hurting, wracked with it all.

Staring down at the peanut butter bandit below him, Nik was still trying to collect himself, but took the moment to take a page from the pagan beauty's book, because she was always the victor. Always. He wanted to win, and he wanted Rhys to stop acting like a high school student and just accept that thisβ€”this was a thingβ€”and he had to admit it, or tell the blond to fuck off.

Nik leaned down, nose to nose, blond lashes closing, and brought his chilled lips to Rhys', gently, as if asking a question. Not forceful, not demanding, just a question, that he'd been trying to ask for what felt like years, but was only four days. Four damned days, however, was a lot of time to miss having a football sized crush thrown at your face over and over again, on repeat.

And yet...clearly, it took this moment to hit the notion home.

It was warm, genuine, and reverent, and then, he nipped, not quite so gently. Rhys could very well fling him across the lot and put a bullet in his head, but he was sure that wasn't going to happen. Nik was severely optimistic in the face of absolute destruction, so why would this be any different? The blond pulled away, and leaned back to study Rhys' face for a reaction. Some form of sentient life behind those striking blue eyes.

"See? It's always fun when I'm around."

He wanted to go and get his backpack and then see who he could join as Alaska walked up.

''What happened to Luiza?'' Alaska was obviously concerned, but it was a question James couldn't really answer. "I have no idea." If he knew more he would've said it, but that was all he had.

''Can you go check on her? James and I will clear the cafeteria while the others finish their work, maybe we'll find some supplies if we're lucky...You guys be careful ok?'' Darius agreed without words just giving a short nod and he rushed away. James liked this plan as well, it always felt better to stick with someone you like and he also knew Alaska could fight. They'd keep an eye out for one another. "I'll just have to get my stuff first," he held up the bottle in his hand, "it'd be dumb to go armed only with a bottle of water." He turned around made his first step but then halted again, to add another comment over his shoulder, "Not that it'd be much of a problem, fighting would just take longer." And with that, he paced off towards his backpack.

In one motion he drew his blade and threw the backpack over his shoulder. His eyes lingered on his jacket which still lied there for a second. It was cold, even inside, but not that cold, so he just took his gun and stuck it into one of his back pockets. He returned to Alaska blade in one hand and a smile on his face. "Okay, I'm ready to go."

The hallway they walked through was much darker than the lobby with the fire had been and the only sounds were their footsteps, breaths and the other survivors in a bit of distance which seemed further away than it could've been. James felt more on edge with every step, even though he knew this part must've been safe, every monster there would've attacked them earlier. So tried to ease his own tension with some small talk. "If we're lucky and actually find something good in that cafeteria than it's ours, okay? The others don't have to know," he said it jokingly of course, he would share everything with the rest of the group ... if they found enough to share.

It didn't take long to reach the cafeteria and James stepped towards the door, took the handle and stopped. Standing there right next to the door he looked at Alaska again. "Ready?" The whisper was barely audible. He waited for another moment to see if she had something to say and then pushed the door open and stepped inside.

There were several things he immediately noticed inside that room. He heard a very faint hiss somewhere in the dark corners the very moment he opened the door, followed by soft footsteps. The air was stale and it reeked of blood and something rotten. And it was even darker than in the hallway. He made a few more steps forward with his blade risen, ready to fight. A handful of shapes moved in the darkness, rushing towards them as James halted. Vampires, maybe some revenants as well, could become an interesting fight.

The first one leaped towards James but miscalculated its own speed, James just made a quick sidestep, its claw-like hands only ripped through the air and the missing resistance made it stumble forwards. Vampires, stronger and faster overall much more dangerous than revenants, but in theory just as easy to kill. James turned back towards the other enemies before the vampire's head hit the ground. The next thing coming towards him was slower, maybe just a revenant, James advanced and went for the first blow. It tried to doge but his blade itself into the monsters shoulder, James drew it out fast and evaded a couple of attacks with swift movements. As he saw a chance he stepped in and thrust his knee into the revenants gut, almost sending it to the ground, and with the next swing of his machete, James sent another head falling onto the ground.[/div]

Growing up, the kids on his street would have played with the sunshine if they could have molded it into projectiles; anything they could get their hands on to cause mischief was alright with them. So the winter snow was the best gift they could ever have. After the first snowstorm he couldn't go to the mailbox without one of them declaring a snowball fight, and it wasn't like they gave him a choice. A split second after the obligatory warning a snowball hit the back of his neck or face. Toward the end of the season when all that lay on the ground was icy muck it paid to wear as much protection as he could without looking like an idiot. The tradition had carried up until their senior year of high school. He had been a plucky athlete, captain and quarterback of the football team, and his buddies had all divided into different sections of the team. It became something of a winter ritual.

Perhaps it had been the nostalgia churning his gut that caused him to start the initial combat, but in an odd way it also made him more relaxed. Almost like the world hadn't ended and he was just having that innocent sort of fun. He wasn't surprised when Nik retaliated, he had been fully expecting some snow to come flying back at him. What he hadn't expected was the snowball to his face. He made a disgruntled squawk, desperately trying to wipe away the snow and ice from his face. It was so cold it almost burned his skin.

"That's for trying to steal my food, you peanut butter bandit!"

Rhys cracked a snow coated eye open, lips cracking into a grin that mirrored the laugh that tumbled from Nik. His fingers were red from the cold, the joints a little stiff as he wiped away the slush. His shoulders shook with a laughter that could barely be heard, finally clearing one section of his face enough to gaze at the blond. His eyes shot open, seeing the stumble coming before Nik could even correct his trajectory. Years of football should have prepared him for a sloppy tackle, yet he went down without so much as a chance to brace himself. The air flew from his lungs as he hit the snow below. It was a good three seconds before he felt like he could breath again. The snow soaked through his pants and he could feel it dampen the back of his jacket. Warming up was going to be a pain in the ass after this, but for once...he didn't really care. Rhys's nose crinkled but the smirk across his lips made it hard for the expression to be anything other than strange amusement.

"Oh so I'm a bandit now? Did your third eye come up with that---"

The snark died on his lips. All trains --express or otherwise-- of thought died as soon as Nik started to lean down. Rhys swallowed, suddenly all too aware that the man was straddling him. His body had sunken into the snow bank, cocooning him in a peripheral of white. Standing up was going to be a bitch, but nothing other than the decreasing distance between them was a concern at the moment. He couldn't pull away even if he wanted to. He laid there transfixed, utterly entranced, as his lips edged closer and closer until finally they brushed against his. Not hesitant but...questioning. Rhys felt his shoulders stiffen, caught off guard and completely shocked to the core. Then as if his brain finally caught up to what was happening he relaxed, his eyes fluttering closed.

Slowly, inexorably, he pressed his lips to Nik’s. It’s soft and gentle and chaste and maybe there’s no fireworks or sparks, but it’s better than that – it’s a wave of warmth that fills him up, spilling out from his heart and the warmth of Nik’s lips on his and rushing to every corner of his body: the cracks in between his toes, the crooks of his elbows, the tips of his ears. It took everything in his power to suppress a soft groan as he felt teeth nip at his lip.
The sensation ended almost as quickly as it began. The kiss had been more of a tease than anything and Rhys stared at him with luminescent irises. His face remained blank, every expression, every emotion, reflecting in those pools of blue as he processed what had just occurred. His heart was pounding so hard in his head that it was a wonder he could think at all.

"See? It's always fun when I'm around."

The sound of his voice brought Rhys out of whatever trance he had been stuck in. The depths of those azure pools darkened and his lips curled into a fierce smirk.
"Niklas do me a favor," he brought a leg up and hooked it around Nik's and somehow managed to flip him onto his back, "and shut up."
Their frozen breaths mingled for a second more before Rhys closed the space. One hand sunk into the snow next to Nik's head, growing numb with it's exposure to the cold, while the other found itself tangled in his blond hair. Epiphany and elation percolated into his veins and soon coursed through his entire nervous system as he continued to press his lips more impenetrably and rougher onto Nik’s lips. His insistent mouth was parting his chilled lips, inflicting sensations that he had never known he was capable of feeling. It was so different. So consuming. He never wanted to stop.

In the haze of his awareness he heard a sound that wasn't from either of them. Rhys broke away from the kiss, azure orbs snapping up as every fiber of his being suddenly became too aware of where they were. His heart was skipping inside his chest and he was still out of his mind, but the sensation that settled in the pit of his stomach wasn't just that giddy warm feeling. There was danger. Something in his gut was warning him and if he had learned anything as a detective it was to trust your gut.

"Something's wrong."
His voice was still raspy from the kiss, hat sitting slightly askew on his head as he leaned back to peek over the snow drift. The winds kept the visibility low, but that hardly meant there wasn't anything there. After a moment of scanning, he dragged his gaze back to Nik and the harshness of his expression softened. He stared down at him for a moment before his face went fire hydrant red.

❖ ❖

The door of the shower cubicle swung open with a light squeak, and out stepped our white witch garbed in a spanking new (relatively speaking of course) wrap-coat and red scarf combo; spoils from a recent foray among the trashed up and bent lockers, courtesy of the Bell Witch. Not that it was unbearably cold at the current moment, mind you. In fact, having grown up in a large manor out by the countryside of northern Europe did much to temper her tolerance for chilling weather. But it did not hurt to be prepared, as she'd noticed how jarringly harsh the climate had been the past two years.

A brief few minutes under a cascade of icy cold water did much more than freshen her up, it also served to wash away the harrows of the previous evening. Clutching the rest of her newly claimed belongings in one hand, she stepped out of the cubicle catching a glimpse of her reflection on the way out. She paused for a moment, studying her austere facade against the tarnished surface. Other than very evident dark circles (which the woman convinced herself added a smoky eye effect to her already deep-set eyes) and a few bruises and cuts from the prior fight, she didn't look half bad for someone who had been scampering around in a post-apocalyptic world. Not much had changed from before. On the surface at least... She snapped her gaze away before her narcissistic tendencies got the better of her, and strode purposefully back towards the lobby.

Rejoining the group, she immediately set about repacking her modest belongings. Digging deeper into her pack, she pulled out a small package wrapped in crinkled brown paper just as Nik sent a boot up their errant leader's delicate derrière. She carefully unwrapped the package, eliciting a satisfied hum when she saw that its contents were still intact.

"Don't you 'Hi, Rhys' me. What the fuck!? Santo cazzo Madre di Cristo-!" Still poking around inside the package, she stood and headed towards the entrance, deftly stepping around the squabbling hens. "-hurt you big bag of dicks! Nessuno mi-!" Rhys' ear-itching whine was drowned out by the whistle of bracing blizzard winds as Reverie pushed open the double doors, and stepped out into the winter wonderland. She didn't go far. Cradling the package in an arm, she retrieved a dented enamel mug and scooped up a cup full of snow from the bottom of the step and darted back indoors.

"-Holy fuck. Porco dio! I swear to God if it was anybody else I would beat the fucking shit out of you." He was still at it, even after her brief excursion. Reverie paused for a second to cast Rhys an annoyed tsk but fortunately, he had stopped his diatribe. She needed as little distraction as possible, and a short-haired mare whinnying by the side was very unwelcome. The white witch headed over to the unostentatious bonfire and knelt by its side, incidentally placing herself beside the youngest Salvadore. Having retrieved her backpack, she set about making her makeshift workstation ready. Pulling out a couple of cracked pyrex beakers - painstakingly procured over the years - and small amber glass bottles filled with swirling liquid, she set her leather bound journal down by her side and began her father's trade. Seemingly oblivious to what went on around her, Reverie mixed and swirled unguents and catalyst powders. Every now and then, she'd crinkle her nose and frown down at her weathered journal. If Velska were to query her she would turn briefly for an amicable smile, but otherwise, she would be thoroughly engrossed in her work.

Now to add a pinch of fragmenter and... There was a soft POP and then a puff of glimmering vapor puffed out of the beaker she held in her hand. A slim eyebrow arched in pleasant surprise. She'd got it right the first time, this time. She then heated up the snow-filled enamel mug and waited until everything melted. With the steaming mug back out of the fire, she gave the glass beaker another swirl, poring over it with intense eyes. Tilting it carefully over the melted snow, she allowed a fat droplet of turbid liquid to gather until finally, it dripped into the mug with a hiss.

It was a tedious process, but she was finally done. Reverie now had a pouch full of glittering frozen droplets, which she carefully stashed away. On impulse, she'd offer Velska a couple, with careful warnings of their potential for rapidly freezing anything small. Like a hand, or a head. Not to be crushed in hand... for tossing, yes.

She sat back on her haunches, and looked around her, having noted that several of their group had already headed off on various duties. Then the tawny-eyed witch rested her gaze on Emma, her voice was still hoarse, but clearly audible as she spoke.

"They're seriously thinking of heading further in?" It wasn't much of a question, but a statement tinged with disbelief. She looked ahead down the lobby, where Alaska and James had disappeared into. Then she shifted to look back at the redhead. With abilities such as hers, she wondered why they needed to get the generator running. Perhaps it was too strenuous to keep a fire going? Reverie frowned, she didn't like the idea of delving further in for the sake of electricity and potential supplies. It was an unnecessary need in her eyes. She also particularly didn't like how everyone had seemed so gung-ho about facing an unknown danger. With such rampant suicidal tendencies surrounding her, Reverie questioned yet again, her decision to stick around with this uncanny assortment of individuals.

She didn't have to hear his voice to know that the footsteps behind her belonged to Darius. Forehead pressed against the wall, the prophet let out a long sigh, calming the caustic emotions bubbling inside her. She didn't want him here.
Right?
She hardly knew the young man. Why get attached before she scared him away with her instability and dark past? By no means did she deserve his -- or anyone else's kindness. LuΓza had dug her own grave and now lay in it, a prophet imprisoned by the will of God -- if there was such a thing. Quiet still, the air stood tense between the two, voice daring LuΓza to speak, but she choked back any words that made it to her lips. There was nothing she could say to explain or express herself that wouldn't leave the young woman sobbing, vulnerable to the man that stood behind her. Had he not followed her, perhaps LuΓza could have avoided him, escaped this prison of humanity that had oozed into her hate-riddled heart. More than anything she wanted to yell at him, scream at him to fuck off and leave her alone. But the mere thought of sending him away left a void in that very heart. Perhaps it was selfish but LuΓza didn't want to let go of the first person to really show her what it was to be human.
"Luiza, you wanna go...uh...hunt down some monsters? I'll let you get first dibs?" Darius's voice was soft and gentle, a slight quiver to his words evidence that he was as uncertain as she. Flinching as the young man's hand touched her shoulder, LuΓza could have almost melted into his touch after a moment. She almost wanted to give the bastard a hug, but quickly dismissed the thought. The ex-hunter had never really been into hugs, and couldn't even remember the last hug she'd had. Even as a child, no memory of her mother's warm embrace came to mind, the huntress a woman who lived by the motto of 'tough love'. Turning, dark eyes met the soft chartreuse irises of the young man that now stood beside her. Gaze shifting down to Darius's radiant smile, the fear that had frosted over her heart disappated. While LuΓza wasn't quite ready to smile herself, insecurity still tight in her chest, she did reach up and place her own hand over his giving him a terse nod. It was a quite a feat, a testament to her willpower that she did such a thing. It broke beyond the boundaries she'd laid for herself, an action LuΓza would have been too scared to do normally, or too proud to do in years past. A gesture of acceptance and trust in the simplest way she could muster. How the fuck did he do it?
"I'm always down to kill shit." While her words were strong, Luiza's voice was anything but, hoarse and quiet, as if she was a woman who hadn't spoken in eons. Stepping back, she looked Darius over, assessing his use. It was the instinct of a hunter, analyzing partners to gauge if they'd be a burden or an asset. More often than not, LuΓza had found people a burden, but then again she'd always been the top of her class so to speak, and the sluggishness of others had always irked her. Darius though, didn't disappoint, though maybe a bias had now eked it's way into her thoughts about the young man. He looked strong and able-bodied, and with the gun slung to his back, he'd be able to back her up across a room.
As if she were the person she once was. Gone were the days of a hunter weaving gracefully through monsters, blood staining her blade as she gleefully laughed. A hunt now would mean Darius would have to work alongside her, an equal. Could she trust him with her life?
Pulling her blade from it's holster on her waist, LuΓza finally smiled.
"Where to, sir?" A light tease if anything, and to her an affirmation she was ready to take the plunge into a world of which she'd never known. LuΓza was willing to suffer the pain of familiarity if only to enjoy a few more saccharine moments with Darius.

The problem with playing the very dangerous and very palpable game of flirtatious chicken, and going to war to press the other side to concede, was that one had to have a good backup plan when your bluffs were called. Nik had, for most of his adult life, rarely lost these little battles. Annoying joyful, flirtatiously intimidating, he never needed to sharpen his skills past the initial volley. All kingdoms crumbled with his efforts, well, ones that wanted to crumble, of course. He was never untowards, that was what brutes and shitheads did.

But kingdoms fell, barriers went down, and he had woven a vibrant tapestry of relationships from little wars and dares of the heart. Far less glorified in stitches than one would think, he was particular, but it was a varied assortment of yarns of course.

However, here's where Nik had a fundamental, functional weakness: he had no backup plan. Call it a bug, or even a feature of the software, once his bluff was called, he was done for. The king was put into check, and his brain would blank like a stuttering machine, and fall prey like a fool, all the weapons of words muted, no volleys left, done for.

Diana had put him in check a long time ago. And now that Rhys had flipped him over into the snow, which was numbing him even through the fucking blood red coat, he was now also in check. His brain's functionality slipping between loose shapes and colors, the words couldn't come out, and it was a mad dash to let whatever the hell the peanut butter bandit wanted to do with and to him happen all at once, immediately, fuck the snow, how are there even gloves on my hands, what's the cold, and don't stop or I'll kill you.

Nik stole Rhys' breath right back, with the marring of mouths, he wanted to bruise that skin, and when the other man tangled his hands in his blond hair his brain flatlined. All awareness of what the day was, if it was morning, if he was hungry, how cold it was, and other not important things like breathing aptly were put on layaway in his stupid blond head.

Nik's heart was beating erratically in his chest, and it skipped more beats when the detective pulled away, as if to lose this would mean he would simply stop functioning. The computer would bluescreen because the RAM in his head had been swapped out for a baked potato, and shifting back to an actually functional lifeform this quickly was switching gears just too god damned fast.

"Something's wrong." Rhys stared down at the blond, who stared up at the peanut butter bandit's reddened face like he had just broken some sort of magic spell. The magic was fading, they were always, always going to be in constant danger. And of course, now, there was danger. Now, here. Right at this moment.

"And that wrong 'something' is taking this inopportune moment to crash the party," said the blond, who wanted one last victory before he'd have to mop the floor with whatever Rhys' spider senses were picking up on. The blond grabbed the back of his head, pulled him closer, and left a nip, bright, and a bit raw, on the other man's lower lip. It'd linger for a while there, a little marker of magenta on already weathered lips, but fade in an hour or so.

"Well, can't be helped, we're probably both cursed." Nik's gaze was pained, he rolled his eyes, let out an irritated groan, and pushed Rhysβ€”gentlyβ€”off of his body. It felt like he was ripping off a scab, this wasn't fair, and he wasn't happy about it. He felt he was very surely going to become a demon just a little while ago, he now had a second chance, this was lovely, and fuck this snow. And fuck whatever this enemy would be.

Shuffling out of the snow bank, he haphazardly righted himself into a kneel and then a wobbled stand, dusting the snow off his coat as best he could, with a look in his eyes that spelled death and destruction. The RAM had now been replaced with vengeance, whatever the peanut butter bandit was picking up on, would pay dearly.

Hopping through snow over to his shovel, he picked it up, twirled it in his hand, and swung it out as if in a warning. Around the side of the car gurgled a sound not unlike someone choking on their own spit, and Nik grumbled, and then thundered out a war cry.

"Alright, fucker! Come out so I can murder youβ€”" as if on queue, a Revenent with matted pitch-black hair, blood shot eyes, dwindled fingers and frosted featured stumbled forwards. It wasn't much of a contest at this point, since it was so cold even the blond was having trouble moving about, a Revenant wasn't going to fair much better.

Nik slammed the heavy end of the shovel across its face with a deafening thwack. It toppled like a grocery bag full of rotten meat and old food cans, and snarled at him. And then cycled around its fallen body to start bludgeoning it, the carnage palpable, casting off across the snow in reds and oozing blacks, in pus and other unsavory things.

Whatever cast of braindeadening magic he had been enthralled with before had now aptly been destroyed.

"I don't. Take. Kindly. To. Fuckers. Interrupting. Me. In. Moments. Like. This!" When he was satisfied with it being dead, he tossed Rhys a razor-sharp grin. But that smile faltered, until concern bolted on his face like white lighting.

"Shit! Behind you!"

He tilted his head up, glaring over the drifts of snow for the movement that had broken him from his trance. All he saw was the winter winds painted white as they sprayed the already fallen snow across the horizon.

"And that wrong 'something' is taking this inopportune moment to crash the party,"

The curve to his lip was faint, cerulean irises flickering down to look at that sinfully angelic face. The man was beautiful, gorgeous even, draped in a layer of snow with his lips slightly red from their kiss. Rhys wondered what he might have looked like freshly--
His head was suddenly pulled down, thought cut off before it could even finish. Teeth clamped down on his lower lip, harsh and provocative, not hard enough to bleed, with just enough pressure to illicit a low groan. If he kept pulling stunts like this, hypothermia would be the least of his concerns.

"Well, can't be helped, we're probably both cursed."

Rhys snorted, moving slowly and reluctantly away so that the other could stand. His right hand had grown numb, all feeling lost from it's plunge into snowy depths. The skin was red, raw, and patches of snow still clung to him in irritating quantities. He brushed it off the best he could, stuffing the hand into the pocket of his joggers in hopes that it would warm it up enough so that it didn't feel so useless. He watched as Nik got to his feet, snow clinging to him just as feverishly. Their clothes were going to be soaked after this. Maybe he could bribe Adisa to conjure a magical blow dryer or...something...he didn't know how that stuff worked. A hot shower would also be welcome he was almost sure Stella could ward something if he asked. And maybe Veska could cook up something warm, he had missed the stew and had heard only rumors in passing of how tasty it was. If he asked real nicely maybe she would be willing to assist him with dinner for once. He hadn't cooked in so long, he missed it truth be told, even though he wasn't the best with knives, he had been taught how to cook from a young age. Shit, if he could get his hands on some pasta he could make miracles.

"Hey keep the cursed talk to yourself, afflicted-boy. At least I'm blessed, in more ways than one."

The innuendo at the end of his statement rolled off his tongue with such fluency that it was hard to imagine he had been a bumbling waffle only minutes before. In actuality, Rhys didn't find his blessing to be anywhere near the sort of higher-calling that Emma regarded it as. It hadn't done him any good besides letting him roast a few revenants. Then there were the gaps in memory. The times where he couldn't remember what he did, it was like he was able to skip the nity-grity bits and come out on the other end with only a faint headache (or you know, pass out). Besides growing up Catholic, Rhys had never been a devout man --certainly never considered himself holy. For all intents and purposes he was just as afflicted as the man beside him.

"Alright, fucker! Come out so I can murder youβ€”"

The tenor of Nik's voice shook him from his thoughts. His free hand rose up to his mouth automatically, attempting to smother the laughter that had begun to bubble out of his chest. He watched this idiot grab a shovel, plowing through the snow, and towards the source of a gurgling hiss. The shovel connected with it's face, blood and spittle and bits of black goo splashed across the snow and surface of his truck. Rhys looked at the gore on the fender with disdain for only a second before turning his attention back to the blond.

"I don't. Take. Kindly. To. Fuckers. Interrupting. Me. In. Moments. Like. This!"

More chuckles escaped him, a grin crawling across his features. It was rare for Rhys to display a whole-hearted smile, one that reached his eyes and lit those azure depths, but watching Nik bash in a 'vents face with a snow shovel caused some sort of macabre joy to rise up in him.

"Think you got it?" Rhys made a dramatic movement of standing on the balls of his feet as if to peer over Nik at the bodied hunk of limbs and guts. His shoulders shook with the remains of laughter, pointing to the clearly smashed in skull, "I think you missed a spot, Blondie."

Something in the snow crunched behind him.

"Shit! Behind you!"

It was like a switch flipped. The humor drained from his face, replaced by his stoic normality, head turning to peer over his shoulder as a hand stretched out. He moved without thinking, gripping onto the arm, right foot sliding forward, hips twisting, weight shifting, and the attacker was flung over his shoulder in a matter of seconds. The body slammed into the snow, a popping ringing in Rhys's ears as it's shoulder socket dislocated. Rhys spun the arm behind the revenant's back, knee slamming into the base of it's spine as he held it down almost as if he were to handcuff as suspect. It could be safe to assume that he had done that move a thousand times before (though probably not as roughly) just because the action had seemed so automatic. The revenant tried to buck and thrash under him, letting out wails that were grating to the ears. It wasn't going anywhere though, Rhys kept it secured under his weight as he reached back for his gun. The hammer pulled back with an echoing click but Rhys hesitated, narrowing his eyes at the creature under him before azure orbs glanced upwards. Something still wasn't completely right and it was nagging at his gut. He pushed the hammer back down, moving the gun back into his holster. A bullet would have made too much noise. Something told him that the sound of a gunshot would bring more trouble than it was worth. His fingers slipped into damp, stringy, grey hair, yanking the head of the monster back. It's arms flailed about in the snow and he could almost make out the face of the elderly woman it had once been.

"I do not enjoy killing, but it is a chore like any other and needs to be done."

His words were barely a whisper, blue eyes glowing as that pale light licked up his veins and ignited the fire in his palm. The revenant let out a shrill screech, eye sockets bursting with faintly blue flame as it was incinerated from the inside out. Rhys dropped the head as soon as it stopped screaming, steam rolling off of his hand and into the gelid air. The corpse lay smoldering in the snow languidly melting from the holy fire that had consumed it. Rhys looked over his shoulder at the blond, eyebrow arching as he took note of the concerned look on his face.

"Were you worried?"

The question was soft, probing, curious almost as he moved back towards where he had stabbed his shovel into the snow. They should be focusing on getting gas. Who knew what could be going on inside the station? But as Rhys's tongue darted out to wet his bottom lip he was reminded of that kiss. Every inch of him was so aware of Nik that it was almost painful. There was something that smoldered in his chest, a wanting that left him thinking of irrational trysts in the snow. His lips curved into the ghost of a smile, watching as the wind lifted and tossed his bronze-gold hair about haphazardly. A speck of blood on his chin drew his gaze and Rhys walked over just to wipe it away with his thumb. "This peanut butter bandit isn't helpless you know."

Rhys dropped his hand back to his side, putting a bit of space between them as he looked out into the haze. His smile thinned for a moment, "I don't like this. A stray 'vent is usually nothing, but two? Something just doesn't sit right....there weren't any here when we arrived so what brought them?" He furrowed his brow, expression turning thoughtful if not a little frustrated. "Remember in the airport how a few stragglers functioned as a distraction in an attempt to cage us? And at the gas station where there wasn't a single peep or hint of a monster until that ugly Gerber baby showed up?" Rhys brought the full weight of his gaze back to Nik, waiting a beat before continuing. "Now we've got 'vents in the snow, in broad daylight, and I can't get what Grigs said out of my fuckin' mind....it's just, I might be connecting things that I shouldn't be connecting. God knows I fucking analyze everything....but I've got a feeling."

He wasn't sure why he was trying to explain this. Nick had always known what he meant by a 'feeling' and had always listened to his intuition despite Rhys being a rookie. But this Nik, literal ass kicker, bag of dicks, peanut butter protector, great kisser, gorgeous Nik didn't have any prior knowledge to Rhys's gut instincts. He could be going bonkers for all Nik knew. He shook his head, snorting at the absurdity of it. He was just overthinking. Rhys turned back to his shovel, it didn't look like they had that much left to clear out. Which was good, the sooner they could get into some warm clothes the less chance either of them would have at getting sick. They may have been blessed and afflicted in their own right, but that didn't make them impervious to the common cold.

Alaska

location: Police Station Cafeteria

"I'll just have to get my stuff first, it'd be dumb to go armed only with a bottle ...Not that it'd be much of a problem, fighting would just take longer.'' Alaska chuckled shaking her head as she waited for him to go get his weapons. All the sass in the world seamed to be stored in this young hunter's head. ''Yeah, I'm sure you can, all the revenants will be too stunned by your cockiness that they'd die anyways'' she joked and walked with him exiting the room and into the dark hallway.

James broke the silence with a joke about the food and Alaska agreed instantly, chuckling a little at the thought of the peanut butter incident earlier. ''Ready'' James' whisper brought her focus back, they stood in front of the locked door of the cafeteria and he held the door nob looking with piercing green eyes into her own. Alaska only nodded in response, tightening the grip around her new dagger, her crossbow resting by it's rope strap on her shoulder. She'd found some bullets in the locker rooms before, but they didn't know what they would deal with here, so she decided to leave the pistols for another fight.

With a push, James got the door open and they were in, greeted by the smell of blood and rotten flesh. Light seeped slowly from the hallway to the cafeteria as vampires revealed themselves. Tables and chairs that once were placed neatly in the center of the cafeteria were now pushed to the corners of the room providing an empty space in the middle, broken vending machines, dusty coffee machines and broken glasses and plates lay on the counters.

One vampire dashed towards Alaska while James was occupied with another. Her blade ready in her hand she too ran towards him slitting his throat the moment they were in front of each other, the vampire fell to the ground with a thud. Alaska turned to the other side, sprinting into a run before jumping a revenant, making her fall to the ground and planting a stake through the poor one eyed woman's heart

Alaska stood up, panting, a smile apparent on her face when she noticed the coffee machines: '' Hey James! There's coffee'' her voice was chipper, almost happy.. Those people fed on the adrenaline from fights, they weren't an ordinary group of survivors trying to save their lives....this was their life!
Another vampire came her way. He walked slowly stopping right in front of her, tilting his head slightly: ''I haven't enjoyed the taste of coffee for three decades....I wonder if your blood is as tasty'' A stupid grin never left his face, his ash blond hair reached his shoulders, he walked yet closer to her, the look on his face would have stunned anybody else.

''You don't know how much i missed killing you bastards'' Alaska's voice came as a challenge, she brought the dagger closer to her face, holding it upside down, waiting for the vampire to close the distance between them.

''This'll be fun'' he charged, wrapping his hand around her neck, pinning her against one of the walls, Alaska just let him, still looking into his eyes, with the most challenging grin on her face. Her crossbow dropped to the ground near her and the vampire brought his mouth to her ear ''You have a death wish? cutie pie?'' a slight southern accent to his whisper made the young huntress snort. She reached into her pocket, taking a small container and flinging the liquid in the vampire's face.

Hissing as the holly water touched his eyes, the blond let go of her and clutched his face in pain. The sole of Alaska's shoe made contact with the side of his head, sending him to the ground with a kick. ''You were right! This was fun.....Cutie pie'' she said mockingly, stressing on her last word as she took the crossbow of the ground and shot him in the neck, watching as his body muscles spasmed and blood shot from his neck. Alaska came closer, snatching the arrow out of him and bringing the dagger down to his neck with a slick cut. She held the severed head by it's ash blond hair. ''Here's some food''with that she threw it at a revenant that was making her way towards her.

[div class=title]SALVADORE GRIGORI[/div]
Cacophony. Noise. Velska’s eyes, slightly bagged, wore a contemptful gaze toward the overall boisterous foyer and surroundings. Especially talks of peanuts and butter. Bearing the oh so Grigori family grimace upon her face. Grown people acting something akin to children with inane and annoying arguments. Velska wasn’t so childish, obviously. Really. Truthfully. Undeniably she wasn’t childish.

Velska huffed, ”Loud.” . Her singular and venomous observation hissed forth. She was awakened by a jolt of adrenaline. Her father stormed away, she heard a command of some sort, to which--with utter annoyance--Velska ignored.

Reverie drew the angst-ridden teen. She was beautiful. With dark eyes and such rich hair, a slight sense of ease drew over the girl, and perhaps a bit of insecurity as she caught the reflection of her developing self in the pot which held the stew a night before. Something deep within her asked her to reflect. Almost depressingly so..

She watched with a sense of reticent wonder and confusion. Reverie was clearly versed in battle, her scars and bruises may shown resilience against pain. Against death. However it was not the aspect she was clearly interested in.

Beakers, experimentation, intelligence. Velska was enthralled somewhat, she was keen in her own right--but nary had much knowledge associating with this. Grigori would have rather her be cleaning, repairing, assembling her weapons. But as the shaking of cargo her various pockets rustled, she drew ever more closer. Eyes lighting up as Reverie worked diligently.

Was this what being an adult held? Being a woman?

A word escaped her breath, ”Amazing…..”

Darius smiled as she exchanged looks with him. Dark as foyer may be, he still emanated some hearth and light. He was fascinated with Luiza. Strength and power clear as her build, refined military or combat posture. But her face, eyes, and being felt so different than his own. Than Grigori. It was…

Darius couldn't find the elusive vocabulary Grigori held within his mind. Darius clearly thought of one idea however.

She was fascinating. With her reply he puffed his chest as he spoke aloud clearly.

β€œThe Database center. My dad is in the basement, most likely activating the generator. If I--We” , he looked to her with a sense of comradery and trust, correcting his battle plans, he continued, β€œIf we can get there and lock it down basically all the information in the server room is available to us--even evacuation centers and other important bits.”

He explained simply, Darius held a knack for computers and electronics. Once deprived in his youth--he now held a fascination with such items. Of the records beyond ink.

Then in a quick turn he aimed himself at the location. His shoulders broad, acting as horizon to an objective, the young man’s face turn back and smiled.

β€œI’ll need your help, I trust you...Luiza” . A grin with a hint of teeth shined forth, β€œLet’s go.” He lead her to the database. His gun now held with his hands, tactically raised and scanning.

Darius made his way to the Database Center...

Labyrinthian and free of the precious heat that affirmed life in the creeping cold, the Basement was very little in the way of safe. As Grigori with flashlight bound to Desert Eagle lighting his path, and footsteps eerily slightly, the Major scanned the environment.

”Narrow. Echoing. Cold-- A killzone.” , Grigori focused his eyes as his fingers came across the various pipeworks and valves of the Station's bowels, like veins of a great beast they flowed into the walls and spaces which it could. Coming across a curious sight he grumbled a comment, β€œGasline…”. He gripped his handgun and machete. A false move could end up exploding the entire basement. No survivors.

He withdrew the steel machete, which gleamed with curious cleanliness, and replacing it with the ebon axe. Shorter, but vicious. It had less chance of catching unintentionally on the pipes. Less chance of him brashly killing himself.

As he continued the stench of death lingered. A smell he was all to accustomed with. The pace Grigori kept became silent and tight. Against the wall Grigori held his back, coming upon the workstation of the janitorial staff.

The door half closed. The door handle completely smashed to bits. Claw marks etched the piping and door with such ferocity that it tore a vein of water, the sound of water became a metronome to Grigori’s mind as he pulled forth his machete once more to reflect the image from beyond the door…

A spinal column protruded forth from a pale and gnarled skin. Lithe and almost devoid of signs of it sustaining the owner. The ribs arched clearly from this spine. Shoulder blades looked more like flat planes than a back…

As this lithe and pale being gnawed on flesh and bone, Grigori took measured notes of its movements and sounds. Engrossed in the kill of a vermin such as a revenant, it feasted. Grigori knew this was no longer a creature fit for the title of human--a vermin. A monster. An apex being among the clade of vermin such as revenants.

Grigori ever so slightly edged the machete at a different angle. It was not one carcass. But a mound of bone gnawed clean….

The pitter-pattering of water drops and sound of bone being snapped and ground was accompanied by foot steps. Bare feet that signalled a coming foe….

Grigori whisked his knife away, leaving a slight gleam from the dimly lit janitor’s room.

The flash entered the beast’s line of sight. Scanning where it had shined on. The shredded mound of death.

Grigori slowly tracked his position back as the sounds of oblivious revenant steps encroached upon the territory of the beast…

The wendigo’s teeth clattered and gnawed, as it sussed out the location of the Revenant. Smashing the door off the hinges and freeing it from the confines of the doorframe. Its metal bulk tossed against pipework and cement walls of the basement behind it as the Wendigo screeched and howled. Its massive maw that was born on its gluttonous slashing of cheeks to bear more room for flesh, screamed. Echoing within the dark labyrinth of the basement.

The revenant retorted with a small yelp and growl, only for the shoulders and head to be rend from each other as a mighty smash blew apart the skull and flesh...The wendigos pale skin now besmirched with foul smelling gore and viscera. Brown rancid curor painted the beast.

A hang maw and head turned away from its kill as Grigori became its target.

The beast howled once more. And Grigori exchanged and dark sneer.

”You are one ugly motherfucker...”, Grigori hoisted up the metal door as a shield, the beast charged with a horrific yell.. ”The feast has come to a close.”

Tags: Chise_Robin_ Chise_Robin_ [/div][/div][div class=title]James[/div][div class=text]"Hey James! There's coffee" Alaska had his attention there, coffee would be great for later but right now they were still fighting vampires. Alaska was already facing another one as James briefly glanced over and then two more closed in on him.

The first vampire lashed out towards him, he raised his blade in defense leaving a deep cut in its arm and then shoved it back. James turned towards the other vampire which led out a sinister hiss, "You will die today." Its voice was so rough it almost sounded like scratching noise forming words. James wasn't about to reply to a monster instead, he readied himself for the attack he knew would come. He had taken care of too many vampires in his lifetime, he understood the way they fought. It relied on its speed and tried to rush him but this time James didn't try to get out the way and dodge, he stepped into the attack and caught it off guard. He thrashed his blade upwards before it could take hold of him, it tore through the pale skin and flesh at the vampire's throat and chin, sending it stumbling to the side with blood dripping out the wound. Not a moment later James brought the blade down onto its neck and swirled around again to face the remaining vampire.

It was backing away from him, showing its teeth and growling as he looked at it. "Not as talkative as your friend or are you just scared?" James smirked, this was going quite well for them so far and there didn't seem to be too many vampires left. He walked forwards and it backed off further eyeing him constantly and seemingly ready to attack any second. Suddenly a cold hand wrapped itself around his wrist, and another one took hold of his should. Long, sharp fingernails dug themselves into his flesh, his machete clattered to the ground as blood started running down his arm.

He was pressed against a wall and then the sallow face of a vampire was just inches away from his own. It smelled worse than rotting fish and as James was forced into eye contact with the vampire the room started spinning, he lost track of his thoughts, his eyes couldn't focus and everything became blurry. It felt like he was fainting as he heard a soft and familiar voice saying his name a few times with that the blur seemed to vanish slowly, the first thing he saw was the long blond hair of the person in front of him, then he focused on the familiar face and the eyes he hadn't looked into for way too long. Tears shot into his eyes immediately, he wanted to say something but couldn't he was completely stunned. The face of his mother wasn't as close to him as the vampire had been, not that he still remembered the thing that had just been there. He didn't know where or when he was, what he was doing or anything. His mind was just blank and every small bit of pain was gone.

"Kill the monsters, James. You have to keep us safe so we can get out of here." there was a short pause before she repeated intensely, "Kill them, James." And she drew away, seemed to vanish into the room's darkness as James fell forward onto all fours. His sight was still a bit blurred and his whole body was shaking, he tried to think, to make sense of anything but it was like he couldn't remember what had happened before, his memories of everything recent seemed empty.

He grabbed his machete which still lay on the floor, now right next to him and stood up, his eyes scanning the room for any danger. They stopped at Alaska, but all he saw was a monster, just a thing he had to kill to get his family back. His still watery eyes were filled with pure hatred as he ran towards her. "Just leave us the fuck alone!" He slashed upwards as the words left his mouth. It wasn't yell actually he kept his voice quite low, but there were an anger and intensity in it that would've scared himself in any other moment.[/div]

In all this ice and snow, in frigid limbs and cold-scraped skin, Nik was still happier than he'd been in...well, he didn't want to dwell on how the large expanse of time had cruelly ticked. Wavering from encampment to encampment, different survivors, mostly all scrap-hungry and eager to maim each other, human brutality was just so ripe and abundant.

He loved violence to the point of a line blurring between thrill and kill, which he knew, but he had rules, and he had a strong personal inclination to preserving the good people of the world over his greater demons' worst intentions.

Other people, not so much. When the law of society was gone, and humans had to govern themselves, it became even more mad than it was before, in the time of corrupted governing bodies. Because now, there was no litmus really anymore for if someone was moral or not, if there were agreed upon common human decencies or not. Nik had found too many like that in this small corner of the world. He knew it was like this everywhere, in many ways, diseases of greed, lust, gluttony and worse, all across the planet. For whoever survived, the worst coming out in them.

But in this group, no, it was different. Maybe that was why he had been burdened with this curse, maybe it wasn't the lack of faith, maybe it wasn't the abject hatred for the Divine, maybe it wasn't the lust or the carnage, maybe it wasn't his macabre romanticism. Maybe it was his lack of faith...in people.

Being able to be better than their basest instincts, while his instincts were ramped up into the hundreds over what they were in the time before, because of this sickness Adisa said was now a part of him forever.

Nik hadn't missed the smiles or chuckles, but his alarm with the rolling creature behind Rhys was more pertinent. It was being dealt with though, he didn't need to do anything...not at the moment. This was someone who protectedβ€”this relative stranger who Nik wanted to make laugh and smile and feel very complicated and very simple things more than anything else. It was intangible, a draw, a magnet, but he wasn't frightened by it. He accepted it, as equally as he rejected all faiths.

Rhys could fend for himself. But Nik felt, watching him surge the creature over his shoulder, and pummel it down, fighting skills and prowess far outside of Nik's own raw speed and street moves, that what Nik would need to eventually protect him from wasn't anything very physical.

It's why he always tried to tease the man, get under his skin, throw a quip, get in his space. Because there was a type of sorrow there, not unlike a drab veil. Nik was perceptive. Not in the way people proclaim to be, but in the way people are, in their bones, emotionally, gleaning it, on the air, in a look, in a word.

"I do not enjoy killing, but it is a chore like any other and needs to be done."

There was a difference there. Nik looked on and then started to try to wipe off his shovel in the snow, realizing there was no point, and then was again distracted by that holy light that plumed from Rhys' palm and burnt the fucker to rust and stardust. He stared off for a moment, gazing out at a drift past the both of them, glassy, and contemplative, holding the shovel into the snow to rest on it.

Holy flame, a member of law enforcement at one point, didn't like killing, a hero. Dark shadows, a macabre artist who couldn't stop cracking jokes, enjoyed killing ...something. Different. His face soured, but when Rhys' tossed him a question with a raised brow, it became bright like dayglow once more. Soft around the edges, a warmth to his deep blue eyes, cheerful.

"Were you worried?"
"I...know you can take care of yourself, believe me, princess. But asking me not to worry is like asking a fish to stop swimming." I always worry about the people I care for. Rhys wiped away a speck of blood on Nik's slightly stubbled chin and the blond grinned, something like a swipe of that same lemon-yellow sun they had just seen the other day on their drive, just as warm and simple.

"This peanut butter bandit isn't helpless you know." Nik cast his eyes down, and then looked up into Rhys' piercing blue gaze with a knowing intensity. Not romantic, not irreverent, but striking. As if to say 'all men fall'. And, maybe 'she fell, so too, can you'.

"I don't like this. A stray 'vent is usually nothing, but two? Something just doesn't sit right....there weren't any here when we arrived so what brought them?"
"Remember in the airport how a few stragglers functioned as a distraction in an attempt to cage us? And at the gas station where there wasn't a single peep or hint of a monster until that ugly Gerber baby showed up?
"Gerber Baby..." Nik said with a snort, and nodded his head, taking the moment to shift and turn to start picking at the snow again, they'd be done soon, and he'd prefer to be inside. He also wasn't as dumb as a paperclip, so he knew where this line of exploratory questions was going, and he felt the same.

If it smells like shit, there's probably shit.

"Now we've got 'vents in the snow, in broad daylight, and I can't get what Grigs said out of my fuckin' mind....it's just, I might be connecting things that I shouldn't be connecting. God knows I fucking analyze everything....but I've got a feeling." Nik stopped shoveling and turned again, the tool left sticking out of the snow near the car. Nik brought up his collar more and bristled in the cold, but then, he spoke.

"Listen to your gut," he shivered for a beat, then began again.
"Think about it. Nobody else could get in this fuckin' place, right? There were Revenants when we rolled up with the A-Team. They gotta' eat, don't they? Something's off, and it's been off, and I'm surprised you're doubting your line of reasoning, Reese's Puff ." Nik reached around for his lighter and cigarettes but realized the cigarette would just get cast off into the fucking snow again, because God hated him, and fuck the snow, and fuck the cold. He went back to shoveling as Rhys turned back to his own shovel.

Blood and viscera was still mucking off in the snow from Nik's earlier bludgeoning, but at least they were making headway. Nik hit another dink, tossed away the shovel, and then began to dust off the door with his gloved hands, drawing away chunks of snow he could get to with his fingers far more easily, to allow them to get in the vehicle, grab the gas canister, get in, get out, and do what they had to do.

"I may have a laugh-track for a brain, but if we're both smelling the shit...then there's probably shit, right?" he asked, turning to Rhys as he stepped away from the vehicle to clutch his coat around him more tightly. The wind picked up and battered his face, this was horrible.

Fuck the snow.

Panting, she stood up. The revenant now lying on the ground with a stake in his heart. Those little peices of shit were drawn to her like a moth would be drawn to light. Another one lashed at her, a short haired girl who couldn't be one day older than Velska. She reached towards the young huntress with her long finger nails only to have Alaska grabbed her arm with both hands, flipping her over her shoulder and on to the floor with a thud. The free arrow in her hand came down to the poor girl's heart splashing blood all over the place.

"Just leave us the fuck alone!"' Everything went too fast, Alaska was still hunched over the revenant when she heard the whisper. Turning around she saw James charging at her with his machete. ''what the fuck?'' The half dead revenant served as a shield between the two hunters as Alaska threw her body between them at the last moment. James' machete slashed at the poor girl's throat before she fell to the floor again.

''What the hell man? James! Hey! It's me! sto..'' It was when she saw the blood trickling from her friend's neck that she stopped the question, looking frantically around the four lasting creatures, two revenants and two vampires, One of which still had blood on the sides of his mouth. God those vampires and their stupid stupid grins!

James seamed out of it, as if he her words didn't even reach him, and if they did he didn't look like he cared. Alaska would keep dodging his machete until she was against a wall, panting, afraid to hurt him, the arrow still clutched in her hands. The vampires just stood watching, enjoying the scene of two hunters engaged in a fight to death. Rage keeps growing within you slowly....until it explodes. Rolling on the ground she dived past him, and ran towards one of the vampires..... the one with blood on his mouth filled her with hatred.

She wasn't thinking when she let her sizzling anger lead her to the vampire's throat, face void of any emotions. She slashed horizontally, the force of her wrist combined with the newly sharpened blade rendered the stinking creature headles within seconds. Alaska stood there, over the body, looking down at it. ''That's for sticking your stinking fangs in his neck you swine'' The words that came out of her mouth held so much revulsion and disgust she didn't know she'd possessd. Turning around, and taking the other dagger out of the pouch attached to her ankle she now resembled the monsters she fought with how much antipathy and loathing that boiled in her eyes.

The two revenants lashed at her as the remaining vampire retreated slowly, as if he was the one controlling them. Alaska readied her daggers, looking their way and keeping an eye out on James, her heart aching as her honey colored eyes locked with his teary emerald ones.
