Three months ago people started to disappear under incredibly odd circumstances. They would vanish for exactly 24 hours before reappearing exactly where they left from. They would vanish while sleeping in their bed, or walking down the street, or even vanishing from maximum security prison cells. None possessed any memories of where they went or what happened but all seem to recall the same strange symbol. Recently odd things have begun to occur around those who vanished and returned, reports include hearing voices, random fires, objects being hurled across the room among other strange anonymous occurrences. In a swift move the governments of the world moved into action gathering and quarantined by those they could find Under the guise of the Returnees being infected with some form of bio weapon. Strange experiments are now being conducted to find out what is going on here, however rumor has it that more that 40% of the Returnees have yet to be captured and are in hiding throughout the world, with hundreds of such cases hidden well the governments of the world have branded them terrorists and The world now seeks them out.

You are a returnee, at some point within the last three months you vanished for a period of 24 hours. Upon your return you have this strange symbol in your head, and some weird new ability seems to be developing. It will be something small maybe even hard to notice at first but it will become more noticeable as time goes on. Perhaps you feel more healthy and energized? Over time that may grow into super strength. Perhaps your less lucky and you feel a constant fever? That may soon become pyrokinesis. Whatever the case you seem to have had your life upended, Whatever you were before now you are a fugitive and a freak and the world seems to have turned against you. The question is what will you do?​

The Genre

now many will see this and see the superpowers tag and assume we are going into a superhero/villain story. That is simply not the case here. This story will be a bit dark if we are being honest and it will capture the feeling of peril well. You are an outcast whose the whole world thinks is a threat better off dead. Police, military, all the alphabet agencies and even random wannabe heroes will literally be shooting at you and you will never know who to trust. Even those who are like you are just as human as the rest and may well be the cause of your death or capture. So this will be a rather rough story. Characters teaming up may be required for survival and it is very safe to say that “good” is objective here as you will see with the coming plot points.​

The Powers

alright here comes the section that I think will answer a lot of questions. What are the powers. Well first and foremost I will not reveal their origins as that’s a HUGE part of the mystery or Enigma if you will. However the abilities seem to be completely random ranging from physical mutations, psychic powers, and even odd elemental powers that seem to defy physics. That said they are not a replacement for planning and such. The powers will grow and evolve over time but seeing as how this started three months ago no one will really have the power to fight off a military squad effectively, at least not with just their power alone. These abilities seem to have a drawback most of the time with the less powerful abilities needing less drawbacks. For example say you have the power to hurl lightning bolts or at least that is one application of it. You could probably chuck about three or four man slaying bolts before your power shuts down or you become too tired to use it again. However Taser handing someone may incapacitate them using only half the power of the bolt allowing for six to eight uses. I will be looking specifically for people to use their powers in creative and unique ways a lot more than I will for people to just make the strongest version they can. Yes people can have multiple powers but only if they fit within the same general type as their primary ability. For example the lightning bolt guy, he could probably also magnetize things and mess with electrical systems like computers. The central aim is useful applications of the power rather than simply dialing the magnitude or scale higher.

The Plot

now here is where it gets interesting. Each character made will have their own goals and ambitions with the “main plot.” Being the governments attempts to gain control of all returnees. With Ample sub plots there will be a lot of room to maneuver your character and their goals in. At the start of the story there will be several “Quests” you may take but each individual character will have their own plot line to follow as they see fit. This will allow for ample clashes of ideology, divides brewed by different politics and various other twists and turns. below is a list of the planned plot points

Political Warfare- United States Senator Kathrine Saints is trying to build support against the government’s quarantine mandate on returnees. Unfortunately this has put a massive target on her back, recently an assassin broke into her office but managed to shoot her assistant instead of her. With concerns that her security detail may be compromised she has gone into hiding and many worry wether she will survive until her proposal reaches the Senate floor for a vote.

The Rising Star- A new group seems to be growing in the western coast of the United States. Large amounts of people loyal to the returnees have begun protesting the mandate and smuggling returnees away from government custody. However no good deed goes unpunished and the Group has been labeled terrorists and are now being rounded up. The groups leader made a public statement asking the returnees to help them as the group had helped the returnees. Will their call be answered.

The Compound- A well armed farmer who happens to be a returnee has opened up his property to others. Already he has repelled one raid though not without difficulty. Many fear the government has yet to bring the hammer down on him in an effort to let him gather more returnees. However despite the governments best efforts media footage of him forcing several armed agents off of his property has begun to spread and with it hope for the returnees, and of course more anti returnee propaganda.

From the Deep- hackers on the deep web have been turning up missing with many believing the government is behind it. The most notorious hacker who recently disappeared was last seen streaming his attempts to uncover the truth about the returnees. Conspiracies fill the web as hackers go into hiding, but one couple has decided they would be safest with Returnees protecting them and thus they have put out an anonymous message asking for help.​
