OK so get this. This country has a fairly small citizenship but that's because there is a birth control law in effect to make sure overpopulation isn't a thing. The up side is, after 100 years, Sol has made most labor completely automated, and so poverty and hunger is completely non-existent. Not only that, but he funds art programs, and they have a renowned choir and orchestra. So essentially everyone who lives there is super happy and also feel fulfilled, whether the work as a trader, learn magic, or are a performer or artist. Everyone's happy, and every one works to make the country better.

Anyooone??

Shoot. [You know, hindsight, I wish I had played Glut cause I really want to do the whole.. mongol/hun nomadic tribe thing where they come, raid and consume everything {I mean everything}. Man. such a neat concept].

Midrick Midrick :D Good post, btw. I liked the Corvis scene.

MEEEEEE :D

I also wanna know how big daddy Pride is gonna react to his woman leaving the meeting after this~ And how Asha will take being shown up xDD

Probably about as well as being constantly called 'Sloth's Daughter'. Not even... dear god, what is my guy's name again? 'Godric's Daughter' but always 'Sloth's Daughter'. Just screams 'Oh, I know you have a name, and I am sure its lovely, and you may have even told me a few times, but, well, I don't care.'

Where is the conflict? The meat? Where is the drama? The Corruption and the Struggle against it?.... Just... not going to lie... seems... really boring. Was the main issue I had with the original nation of Greed, there is no flair to it. Its just... a Dysotopia made to scream 'The Bad Guys!' while yours tries to hard to be the 'perfect society' and not in a 'perfect but totally not and is actually pretty awful when you really look at it,' way.

I mean, not really much from the offset true. But imagine. This small country has a vast amount of resources, and most of those are produced autonomously. an entire nation that has master metal casters, and hordes of golums built up over the past century. Not only that, but there is my character's motivation to consider. The son of avarice, he hungers for knowledge. Perhaps to a good end, but mostly for the thrill of gaining more of it. If there is something he truly wants to know, he'll be more than happy to take it for himself. That said, perhaps I'll change the reason for the birth decline. Perhaps in his last moments, Sol's father cursed the land to be barren in his absence. This didn't mean the taking away of resources, but instead the slow decline of the population. Maybe Sol needs settlers?

That's not watch Capt is trying to do. he's trying to challenge you to make something wonderful c:
Wait.. what if greed's kingdom just went all to hell in the war, and what's left of it is really small.. and it's almost completely inhabited by Sol's golums. A few very powerful mages live there too, and they've formed a nation like that? And now they're trying to be an actual nation by appealing to the others, to open up borders and trade and stuff?!!

That is making your character interesting. Not your nation.

Like, you can still keep the core notion off your idea but, for example:

Make your nation a City-State, explains the small population and how they can have enough resources to go around. Due to people not needing to do anything, many don't do anything. Its one of those, "In a perfect world where everyone was fed and sheltered, everyone would be doctors and artist!"... But would they? How many people do you know that if they were given all the food, entertainment and shelter they could ask for would really go out of their way to be productive members of society rather then just stay at home on their computers? A handful, if we are being honest.

Which could be a major social problem. That divide between people who do art and whatever it is they like to think they do that makes them important vs the 'leeches' of their society and that bubbling resentment both sides have.

But there are so many other things you can do such as:

Idle Minds, Soft Bodies - Because people don't do crap and spend most of the time lazing about doing whatever, it means a lot of... well, we would call them keyboard warriors exist. These are people who may rally for Golem Rights, or the anti-slavery of Nation X or the 'Don't call Elves X because its derogatory!' people. And all these people, usually, have no real exposure to any of this and are just reacting and protesting for the drama and fulfillment of their rather empty lives. They are over-indulgent, soft and, well, rather weak because what do they know of conflict? Of struggling? They don't. [Not even going to get into the edgy ones]. All the people seeking adrenaline and doing other things to get their fix.

Golems - Golems are a central part of your nation, yes? So, make it a sport, something prestigious. Various people trying to create the best and 'most unique' golems and even pitting them together in competitions or even fights to prove it. [You can almost imagine this nation as a bunch of spoiled brats comparing who can buy the best toys... because.. that is.. kinda what they would be.] Then what happens if a Golem is made with sentience? Or close enough that it makes people wonder? [I have no issue with you doing this, btw]. Golems are needed for their way of life, and while many point and rage at the slavery in other lands but not in their glorious land of plenty, what happens when their golems start looking a lot like slaves and what about that sentient golem? Their thoughts and visions, that deep seated fear of a golem revolution someday and, equally, people laughing off that idea.

So what you get is, on the surface, a nation that has plenty and is striving to progress culturally and through innovation but... is more so a nation of debauchery where the very act of having all you need at all times has taken a lot of the drive and ambition out of the common people.

Not saying do this, mind, but just keep that in mind. There are ton of ways to do a nation, but making it interesting is what matters.

Definitely like the idle minds soft bodies idea. I was thinking a city state too, though perhaps with a sizable land that is worked by the golums. Sentience, while interesting, wouldn't really work with most golums. They are tools that require a mage to work. So say a mage could plow a field of wheat in an hour with a few golums, however the golums couldn't do the same without the mage. You can make them autonomous, but that requires a great level of skill, and as it's such a small country, it would be hard for many mages to be able to craft such golums. I was thinking the economic structure could like more like a socialist society, where you receive more money from the government as a subsidy depending on either production of say materials, or artistic output and or overall appeal. Your basic needs and things are met automatically by the state, but you can strive to become more.

What use is money? Don't need it for housing or food, and this is the medieval period, don't exactly need to pay for more entertainment goods like computers or the internet. Outside of buying bling, which is probably very low on many people's priority list, that isn't much of an incentive at all.

Yeah I feel. Maybe they're something of a technological marvel, and so a main conflict could be who to trade with? Remember Sol's after secrets and ancient mysteries, so he might be willing to open up trade channels for knowledge.

International trade is a given since other nations will have things yours doesn't just based on geography. That is more of a... its like someone saying, "Man, I have all this stuff, who should I share it with?" kind of.. internal conflict. I'm... not even sure I'd call it a conflict.

Fine i think i have it. Though rich in a lot of junk, they don't have many medicinal plants, or the ability to do plant based alchemy. The City itself is located in a valley surrounded by mountains, and their dominion ends right after the mountains.

International trade isn't an issue. They will always need/want something someone else has somewhere. My original comment was more on the people thing. If they do more they get paid more.. but.. its.. not like there is a bunch of stuff they can do in this time period if their primary needs [food, clothing, shelter] are being taken care of.

Ok I see what you're laying down. I can make their birth rate low easy enough, and I think I'll take up the idea that the country is split between a faction of hard workers, and others who seem to be riding the system. I'm trying to think how that could be solved long term. I was thinking a really progressive immigration policy, to motivate more dedicated hard working people to the country. What do you think?
