To trade a childhood wonder for a plausible explanation - is there a worst trade one makes in life? ~Robert Brault

Childhood is that wonderful time of life when all you need to do to lose weight is take a bath. ~Author Unknown

Duncan Moran doted over his young daughter Ellie, whose nickname he always misspelled as Ele. Ele, or E.L.E., was actually an acronym and his personal joke which stood for Extinction Level Event. It always earned him that flash of anger from his wife. But he referred to Ele as the end of life as he knew it - not that it was a bad thing. And the way he threw himself into fatherhood was nothing short of priceless. About the only thing he refused to do was to put things together - like cribs. Well, that wasn’t fair. He did try. But after an hour of turning the pages upside down and every which way he called for help. This was a man whose solution to the Rubik’s Cube had been a hammer.

About the time Ele was turning two, Duncan embarked on a project to build a treehouse. He had wanted to start early as, like many of his projects, they would take time and were rarely small. There had been a large oak tree in the back yard with a 3 foot diameter base and massive limbs that were a natural support for a children’s fort. So he hired his brother in law to work up plans for a NASA styled tree house - built with safety in mind, of course.

The access to the treehouse was a heavy set of stairs, carefully smoothed and padded with foam rubber and matting. Duncan had wanted an elevator but was almost talked out of it. The ground around the tree was a safety net made large enough for a child to fall or jump out safely with the egress at the center near the tree designed along the lines of an evacuation slide from an aircraft. (The neighborhood kids usually jumped...). The elevator was essentially a large custom airbag design with resistance slowing deflation.

Duncan had had a PA system installed with the other end being placed in the kitchen in the house. (The tree house end had no off switch.) For “sensors” Ele’s father had mounted a telescope, then removed it for fear children would try to look at the sun. He had replaced it with a tube and a webcam with a flat screen display mounted in a case made of plexiglass (carefully padded).

When Ele had turned four she had finally gotten to the point of climbing pretty much everything - and the launch platform was ready. For the first time in ages Duncan pulled out his Major Matt Mason and played in the treehouse with his daughter. Even Ele’s mother joined in, though she went back inside to play Mission Control - while trying not to burn water for dinner - again.

This sets the stage for the adventures of the neighborhood kids. This is a neighborhood where parents aren’t afraid to let their children go Trick or Treating. It is the classic American suburban neighborhood - houses with front and backyards, chimneys and driveways, nuclear families with 2.3 kids and the family pet. The children of our story are at that age when they still play army, play house, play pirates, or space explorers.

Characters
Note: The character sheets are my standard one. However, I do not need books about your character. I just want others to be able to read and get a quick feel for the character and persona. Delete the unnecessary details and go with more descriptive. For example, most of you probably have no clue how much a kid should weigh, so a description like pudgy, chunky or beanpole works just fine, probably better, in fact.

The characters will be neighborhood kids - or relatives visiting for the Summer.
School is out for the Summer.

As this is Make Believe, yes your toys will work (unless your little brother got ahold of it and broke it or it needs a new battery).

You are as brilliant as your character thinks he or she is. Or as much a swashbuckler as you think you can be. After all, you’re kids.

Yes, your character may be physically handicapped.

No bullies allowed. (Although I may ask some of the better members to develop some annoying kids as ‘bad guys’ for second characters.)

So come and channel your inner child. Think Little Rascals. Explore strange new worlds. Visit realms of fantasy. (But where you go has to be decided by a group leader or group vote.)

Tentatively, I am going to hold 8 spots open, preferably a 50/50 mix (plus little Ele).

Note: You may also use your family as NPC’s. And a pet cat makes for a great Kittisaurus.

Posting
3rd Person, past tense
Reasonable spelling and grammar (with allowances for style)
I usually require a minimum of a few paragraphs. These being kids, I am going to relax this a bit. But please no one liners. Contribute to the story.

Please add the name of the character posting at the top of the post. Then add a time and location (in play terms).

Example: Capt. Elle Moran
Dark and Stormy Night
City of Nanu on Planet Shazbot

Add tags at the bottom of the post if applicable. This is one RP where a new arrival can jump into a scene. Kids do that.

Rules
RPN rules apply.
God Modding is allowed within the nature of kids. Just be true to the kid’s design. and try not to piss off the other kids or your made up power may fail or backfire and you’ll find yourself hit by the power of Edit.
No bunnying (running other’s characters). This includes determining whether they get hit. Ever watch two kids in play fighting. One claims he hit; the other says huh uh.
