As the imposing man entered the room, Glacier slowly rose to his four paws, standing as still as an ice sculpture. He simply looked towards the speaking CEO, pondering the man's words. It certainly sounded like a good offer, though he made sure not to get ahead of himself; working for such a company would be sure to have benefits, but without further context and details, making a decision now would be presumptuous. Of course, that offer was only extended to those who were 'ready' in the first place, which was not specified.

When Naomi declined, explaining her reasoning, Glacier silently agreed with a nod of his head, though his train of thought was different.
"Though I am of course not assuming I'm one of those 'ready'... I must inquire as to what 'work' for the Silver Star Trading Company entails?" He tilted his head slightly to the side. "Pardon me if this sounds ungrateful, Mr. Graveton... but other than the fact that it is obviously a well-to-do company... comparative to the significance of such a decision, you have not given us much information to base it upon."

Glacier decided not to outright decline, as he believed it wise to know more first. Besides, the CEO had not named the ones "who show promise", so giving an answer now would sound vain.

“Hahhh?! Pssht! Suit yourself, Mr SmartyPants.” Orrius spat in reply to Jason. Here he was, trying to give some advice of his own, and what did he get in return? A good old scolding from the biggest know-it-all in the room. It seemed like Orrius wasn’t the only one pissed off by this Jason guy. The redhead was constantly picking a fight with him, and he could understand just why. This brat was so closed off and ignorant… How could any of them work with him?!

Just as he had this thought, it would come as a surprise when Naomi gave it a shot herself. Seemed like she was the only one willing to stoop to his level just to have a conversation with him. She was like an innocent kid wanting to befriend everyone, which Orrius found cute.

It was at this moment when a big man would barge the door open, announcing that he was the CEO of the company they were meant to protect. And wait, did he just say he’d been observing them all this while? Isn’t that just eavesdropping? Orrius narrowed his gaze at the man, having some doubts about his professionalism. The man did have an interesting proposal for them, but then again weren’t they here to get into Logia academy?

Naomi had the same line of thought, as she was quick to turn down his proposal. Next, Mao would try seducing the man, which Orrius couldn’t help but to frown at the act, as well as Glacier who was on the fence about the whole deal.

“I would like to hear more about these benefits… But at the same time, I’ll likely have to pass on the offer as well.” Orrius spoke his own thoughts, before turning to Naomi. “Just like her, I’m keener on entering the academy and potentially improving on my magical capabilities in the process. I feel like learning the foundations of magic in an academy is far more crucial now as an aspiring mage; and only once have I fully grasped the foundations would finding an outside job be beneficial for applying what I've learnt practically.”

Jason looked over this CEO and was immediately conflicted. He didn't exactly know what to think of this person, but he understood that this may all a part of the trials, but he didn't know what to do about it. Of course, he decided to come at this like an insect would. When an insect runs into something they don't understand they have two options. Eat it or run away from it. Of course he would have to adjust this for human standards.

He tilted his head, looking the man over and knowing that he was in the market for talented individuals. Unfortunately, some misguided leadership on his part ended with his bugs being killed off. Probably not a refreshing or impressive viewing. That didn't really matter to him, but he did miss his bugs terribly. The giant scorpion flies flying around him began to get a little agitated, sensing his confusion. The various insects that were crawling on him and his clothing could be seen doing the same. He turned to Naomi, listening to her actions. Naomi was the one person in this group that he currently believed was a decent person. Her actions had proven such, so he would take her reaction into consideration.

After listening to her he began to put in some deep thought. What would be the benefits here? To be led into a company that didn't have the greatest first impression of him. The academy wasn't all that interesting either way. However, he did have an interest in getting more information on Naomi. Maybe there was more to her than even he could see. So, he looked to the CEO "Sorry. Large groups aren't my thing and I don't see how working with you would help me in my goals."

Ivy Redwood

Ivy would turn to face the stranger who had entered the room, folding her arms as she listened to what he had to say. The man would introduce himself as the CEO of Silver Star Company, and it seemed like he was eager to recruit them. Ivy pondered on the thought. Although it seemed like most of her comrades were against it, with their focus mainly on joining the Logia academy. After all, it wasn't as if they signed up to join this particular trading company. But... if they somehow weren’t able to pass the tests for the Logia academy, then wouldn’t it be beneficial for them to take him up on this offer?

She would probably need more information before coming to make her decision. For now, Ivy would remain silent as she listened in on the others. She felt like it would be best to hear him out first, as the others have already started bombarding the poor man with their questions.

The cat girl insulting her under her breath, Tannia didn't even so much as roll her eyes. She couldn't care less what names she was called by the person who had done absolutely nothing up to this point. However when Ivy approached her, playing her tune, the warrioress raised a brow. A raging storm? Apparently misunderstanding her was the theme of the day. Sure Tannia was angry, but not raging. She wasn't about to hurt anyone. Well, save Jason, but that was less out of agitation and more out of what she viewed as necessity. It was annoying however that the girl trying to get her to breath, never mind the patronizing. There was no point in humoring this. Tannia had decided to be done, and so she was going to just ignore the minstrel.

Until she felt something prick at the back of her mind.

Tannia's eyes went wide before slowly turning to look at Ivy. "Did you just try to use a skill on me?" She questioned, voice ice cold. Now she really was pissed her off. She rose from her seat and stepped forward into the girl's space so she was eye to eye. "That's a good way to get your head ripped off." She warned with a snarl. Before anything else could happen however an important looking man stepped into the room and began talking. Giving Ivy one last glare Tannia went back to her seat and sat down, listening to the CEO.

Much of the team seemed to be uninterested in Mr. Graveton's offer, but this was what Tannia had participated for, not for admission into some school. Well, almost. She had actually joined to get her hands on prize money, but a job was far more lucrative in the long run. Of course she wouldn't just accept it, there was too little info on what was expected of them. A feeling Glacier seemed to share from his questions. The fox having already asked what she would have, Tannia simply returned Merrick's nod and waited to see what the gentleman answered.

Then there was Mao acting like a cat in heat. How professional...

Malik watched as the responses of his teammates fell like dominoes in the wake of Merrick Graveton's introduction and offer. Each response echoed the personality of its speaker. He admired their honesty, a fundamental pillar of any solid team.

Taking a moment to consider, Malik glanced at Merrick before saying, “Thank you for the offer, Mr. Graveton. I believe the experience at your company could be helpful to me in my goals. If it aligns with my principles, I'd consider it."

As if having anticipated the variety of responses, Merrick gave a slight nod, then snapped his fingers crisply. The sharp sound echoed through the room and the sudden appearance of two people—twins in sharply tailored suits—followed. They stood at either side of Merrick, a seamless addition to the CEO's imposing aura.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Merrick began, a businessman's smile gracing his features, "I've considered your responses, and I respect each and every one of them. Those who have expressed interest in the offer, my secretary, Ms. Lorelei, will provide you with more details and lead you to the next stage of your journey. Yes. You have passed this trial." He gestured to the female twin, a woman with hair the color of polished mahogany and sharp emerald eyes. Her stance was poised and professional.

"For those of you uninterested or uncertain, my other secretary, Mr. Lysander, will escort you out. During your exit, we'll also take the opportunity to familiarize you with our company's offerings. After all, you may find that Silver Star Trading Company can serve you well in your future endeavors."

The male twin, Lysander, gave a polite nod. He bore a striking resemblance to Lorelei, his features softened by his gentle cobalt gaze.

Merrick's gaze moved pointedly to Tannia, Malik, Mao, and Glacier. "I encourage you all to accompany Ms. Lorelei. The details she can provide might sway your decision."

As the twin secretaries prepared to lead their respective groups, Malik turned to his teammates, offering a reassuring smile. While what lay beyond the trials was uncertain, one thing was clear: they had completed this trial, and the next awaited them at the Logia Academy.

"Lead the way, please," he urged Lorelei after nodding to Merrick as he passed, his eyes twinkling with a sense of achievement and anticipation of what was to come.

Meanwhile, other staff entered the waiting area and started carting off the relic the team had secured for this trial.

“What was that all about?”
Orrius muttered under his breath as he watched Tannia pick a fight yet again with Ivy this time. Orrius clicked his tongue in irritation. She could pick on Jason the nasty bug boy all she liked, but to pick on Ivy as well was going too far. Mostly because Orrius felt a little bit apologetic to her, and he didn’t like it when others bullied his friends. If there were no rules to be followed here, Orrius would have just blasted her right on the spot. After all, he did come from a gang of criminals and pirates... but that was a story for another day. Fortunately, the boy knew better as he clenched his fists and held himself back.

Going closer to Ivy, he’d whisper to her when Tannia wasn’t looking. “If you ask me, she could use a couple of anger management classes. You did all you could to help, just pay her no mind.”

The CEO then continued to give a breakdown of what’s going to happen. Apparently, they had already passed the trial and there wasn’t anything like an interview to be had. Orrius felt a little bit confused about the turn of events, but decided to stop thinking and just accept it. Thinking was hard and tiring!

“In that case, go ahead and lead the way mishtur.” Orrius spoke to Lysander nonchalantly, as he strode over with hands behind his head.

There was a bit of bickering between the members of her team, but Naomi hadn’t been paying it much mind. She kept thinking about the potential interview. About questions that they might have been asked. The plan they’d made to protect the caravan and the things that went wrong with it.

Her mind was racing until Mr. Merrick Graveton just up and admitted that they’d all passed.

“W-wait…” Naomi snapped back to the present; eyes wide with disbelief, “We already passed!?”

The tension rushed out of the young wizard’s body like water surging out of a cracked damn. With a sigh, she threw her head back; palm crashing into her forehead as she realized just how worried she’d been over nothing. Then she chuckled to herself.

When Merrick called forth his secretaries and described their roles, it was obvious that Naomi would be traveling with Mr. Lysander. And that their little impromptu group was about to be splitting up. She turned to those who were congregating around Ms. Lorelei and waved at them.

“Guess I’ll be seeing you guys later, then. Good luck!”

Then, she followed after Orrius and Mr. Lysander to wherever it was the latter planned on taking them.

Rip my head off? Go ahead and try. Ivy stared back into Tannia’s eyes, unwavering. She could feel her fuse getting shorter by the minute, as her efforts to help were in vain and only met with more aggression. Just what was she supposed to do? Kick her legs back and do nothing? She didn't want to be a mere bystander. She wanted to help in any way she could.

However, before she could even utter a word back, the CEO would interrupt them before their dispute could further escalate. Heaving a sigh, she would head to her own seat reluctantly. She hated it when others picked on her for being the 'nice girl'. And it happened twice already. First with Orrius, and now with Tannia. Deep down, the rebel within was scolding her for being weak. She should be standing up to all of them! Ivy bit her lip, a pained expression appearing on her face as she contemplated her decisions.

Right as she was deep in thought, Orrius' voice would snap her back to reality. Hearing what he had to say, the girl would stare at him for a moment, eyes wide open unable to believe that he of all people was cheering her up now. Then, she broke into a smile as she finally regained her composure.

"Thank you… Although I am at fault too. I shouldn't have been so irresponsible with my skills."

After their quick exchange came Merrick's declaration that the trials had just come to an end… And they were successful! Ivy raised an eyebrow at Merrick, unable to believe her ears. That was it?! Why didn't he say so earlier? He sure had his fun beating around the bush like that. Still though, it felt like a heavy burden had just been lifted off her shoulders, for which she was glad about.

Next up, she had to make a decision, although it wasn't a very difficult one. She chose to join the others at Logia academy, as an academy sounded a lot less stressful than working in a real company. She quite enjoyed studying herself too. Before parting with the others joining Lorelei, she'd bow to them first.

"Goodbye for now, my dear friends." She said, before making her way to Lysander's group and wondering what the future had in store for them.

"We've... passed?" Glacier muttered. Was the man referring to the two challenges they had faced so far, or was he implying that the question given to them was some kind of evaluation? Regardless, it seemed that the group was splitting up, so he made his way to Ms. Lorelei, as Merrick suggested. "I am still unsure... but if more details will be provided, then I shall listen." He still questioned how well he would fit within a trading company, but he wouldn't brush off such an opportunity if he could learn more first.

Glacier then glanced over to Orrius, Naomi, and Ivy, two of whom were giving goodbyes. "I am glad to have met you all... farewell to you, for now." He responded.

"Oh, um, you too sweetie!" Māo yells to Naomi, even though she had already forgotten the girl's name. She seemed like a sweet kid though.

“Alright, let’s get momma some drinkin’ money.” She says as she goes to follow the woman who was pointed out as Mrs. Lorelei.

Malik's confusion morphed into curiosity as he joined Ms. Lorelei's group, a curiosity that gradually unfurled into fascination as their tour through the sprawling headquarters of the Silver Star Trading Company began. They navigated a labyrinth of bustling offices filled with clerks scribbling on scrolls, bustling warehouses stocked high with crates and barrels, and grand, open chambers where mystical orbs pulsated with light, displaying live updates of trade routes and shipment statuses.

Ms. Lorelei guided them through the heart of the company's operation. She explained how the Silver Star Trading Company wasn't merely a commercial entity - it was a web that interlaced through the veins of kingdom, a chain that linked isolated settlements, and a beacon of resources in the face of adversity. They dealt in a myriad of commodities, from mundane items like grain and textiles to magical artifacts and enchanted weapons, even to rare magical ingredients harvested from defeated monsters.

Ms. Lorelei didn't just provide a tour; she painted a vivid picture of the company's vision, interweaving it with the potential roles that Malik, Glacier, and Mao could play. She pointed to Glacier's natural gift with ice, suggesting he could assist in transporting perishable goods or work in colder regions fraught with ice-based creatures. To Mao, she presented the idea of leveraging her looks for marketing purposes as well as possible administrative assistant duties. To Malik, she acknowledged his knack for thinking on his feet and greater understanding of people, hinting at a role in negotiation or diplomacy on the company's behalf.

Simultaneously, Mr. Lysander, with his cool charisma, was captivating his group in a different part of the headquarters. They strolled past eye-catching displays showcasing the company's products and services. Elaborate stands held shining swords ensorcelled with flames, rings glowing with protective magic, potions promising numerous effects, and scrolls of contracts for services like caravan protection ironically enough, goods transportation, and custom magical item procurements.

He spun a tale of each product and service, detailing their creation and utility, the intricate magic involved, and the expertise of their mages and blacksmiths. He described the company as a one-stop solution for anyone, be it a humble farmer in need of a protective talisman against crop pests, a city guard requiring a powerful weapon to fend off rampaging beasts, or a mage seeking rare spell components.

As their tours concluded, the groups found themselves at the impressive front doors of the Silver Star headquarters. The vast, interconnected world of the company they'd just witnessed was pulsating behind those doors. Despite their different tours, the trial participants were together once more, united by the newfound appreciation of the company's role in their world, ready to embark on the next phase of their journey. The twins would let the party know their final trial would be at the Logia Academy that evening and wished them goodluck before bowing their heads and excusing themselves back inside.

And, just like that, the group split up.

Mr. Lysander took those who’d shown disinterest in the Silver Star Company on a tour where he explained the various services and products that the company offered. Naomi paid him a bit of attention, but her mind was mostly elsewhere. In that moment of calm, she found her thoughts trailing back to the previous battles.

The memory of her spell shattering against the Rhinoceros Beetle Guardian’s head and overloading her ring to the point of breaking. The sheer disparity in power between herself and those like Orrius and Malik. None of it was really all that surprising. Naomi had never been on an adventure before in her life. But one thing was more clear to her now than it had ever been before.

She seriously needed to change after she got into this school.

At the end of the tour, Naomi found herself… reunited with the group that had just split up not that long ago.

“Ah. We were… a little too quick with the goodbyes, huh?”

In truth, from the way Mr. Graveston had divided them all up, Naomi wasn’t sure if she would ever seen anyone who left with Ms. Lorelei again. Especially not within a few hours of the same day. She said her goodbyes to the man’s secretaries, then turned her attention back to her teammates.

“Alright. I guess that’s just one more reason to stick it out for the rest of the trials,” Naomi couldn’t have cared less about The Silver Star company at that moment, but it was obvious that a few of the others did, “You guys wanna go ahead and make our way over to Logia? Maybe if we’re early, they’ll let us go ahead and get started with the next trial.”

Glacier silently listened and looked around as Lorelei guided them through the building, explaining it's goals as well as what kinds of work they could do.

"This tour has been enlightening... thank you, Ms. Lorelei." He said as they approached the front doors. After consideration, Glacier was leaning towards joining the company in the future; if he found that it did not suit him, then he could simply quit the job. Of course, if there was some form of contract to sign, he'd make sure to read it thoroughly and in it's entirety first.

"It would appear that our farewells were... hasty, yes." He responded to Naomi, as both groups reunited. "If there is nothing else of importance... then we should indeed make our way to the academy." Agreed Glacier.

Ivy Redwood

Ivy listened in to the ramblings of Mr Lysander, occasionally nodding along to show that she was paying attention. However, she could feel her eyelids getting heavier and heavier by the minute, eventually closing her eyes and just using her ears to listen in. She felt like she was at those museums, looking at all the various displays around her. Sure, they were cool and all, but it felt like a detour from their trials.

Well, not that she was going to complain about it. She'd appreciate the little rest they got in between their trials. And as it turned out, they were to reunite with the group from before and make their way for Logia academy.

"Hmm... I wonder what they got in store for us this time." Ivy pondered to herself.

Tannia had chosen to follow Ms. Lorelei on her tour of the company, listening quietly as the woman talked. She was actually impressed with the scale of this group. It may have been called a company, but the amount of work and organization would put many kingdoms she knew to shame. One would either need a very good reason, or be a fool, not to get involved with the Silver Star.

The crew were brought back together and Naomie suggest that the head over to the academy early, the fox agreeing with her. Tannia however shook her head. "Arriving too early is just as discourteous as arriving late." She commented. "Besides, I have something I need to do." She needed to go talk to her teacher about the offer, make sure Rossle Deva would drop her apprenticeship for accepting. So with a brief wave Tannia turned and started to walk away. She would see them again that evening.

Logia Academy Exhibition Hall

1688260477617.png

1683373475360-png.1085024
Evening fell on the city, casting a serene blanket of twilight over the bustling streets and towering structures. Malik, having kept the offer from the Silver Star Company in the back of his mind, found himself back with his allies, readying for the final trial. They had each taken the time to regroup, refresh, and prepare themselves, emerging from their rooms at the inn as the final rays of the sun faded into a starlit canvas.

Upon reaching the grand exhibition hall at Logia Academy, they were met with a scene unlike any they had encountered before. This wasn't the harsh, battle-scarred terrains of the trials, nor the cold, corporate layout of the Silver Star Company. The hall was brimming with a lively atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. Spectators of varying backgrounds filled the stands around a circular platform at the center, their faces illuminated by the magically-lit torches that lined the hall.

Each participant in the final trial had a dedicated platform. At the center of each one, an artifact sat perched on a pedestal, as if silently waiting to unleash its boundless magic. The artifacts, each uniquely carved with intricate symbols, emitted a soft luminescent glow that washed over the onlookers, their allure only heightened by the mystery of their purpose.

Among the remaining participants, Malik could not help but appreciate their prowess. Each of them was a testament to talent and perseverance, their faces etched with resolve and determination. A silent agreement seemed to pass between them, an understanding of the competition that was about to ensue.

The academy headmaster, a tall figure draped in elaborately embroidered robes, ascended a platform at the front of the hall. His long, silver hair was pulled back, revealing sharp, calculating eyes. "Ladies and gentlemen," he began, his voice echoing throughout the grand hall. "Before us stand the brave and capable individuals who have emerged victorious from the preceding trials. Now, they face their final challenge." He gestured towards the glowing artifacts arranged on the pedestals. "Each team will use these artifacts to unlock a portal to a mythical Realm unique to them. They must demonstrate not only their magical prowess but also their courage, wit, and unity as a team. To each team, find your artifact and prepare for the endeavor that lies ahead. May you navigate the varied challenges and prove yourselves worthy of the winner's position this year." His voice rang out, brimming with gravity, effectively marking the commencement of the final trial.

Malik approached his pedestal, the artifact waiting patiently for his touch. With a deep breath, he picked it up, the glow of the object dancing in his eyes. He could feel a surge of energy pulsing from it, intertwining with his own magical aura.

As he raised the artifact, the spectators fell into a hush, their eyes fixed on the platform as other teams did the same. Malik could feel the tension, a tangible shiver in the air. The artifact's glow intensified, radiating a wave of power that pulsed through the hall. The anticipation was palpable, the beginning of their journey to one of the mythical Realms was within arm's reach, the final trial now a reality rather than a distant event.

The grand exhibition hall, once filled with the murmur of speculation and excitement, now held its breath as the final trial of the Logia Academy was about to commence.

Ivy would be resting on her comfortable bed in the inn when it was finally time to get going. However, she spent a few more minutes on her bed, staring at the ceiling and thinking to herself. Just when was the last time she had the chance of sleeping on such a nice bed?

If entering Logia academy meant securing an equally nice dorm room to stay in, then she had to succeed in this final trial, no matter what. With newfound passion lighting up within her, she would spare no time to waste in scrambling out of her bed and getting prepared. And now that they have come so far, it would be such a waste to end up failing. These kinds of opportunities don’t come by everyday, after all.

Regrouping up with the other members at their final destination, Ivy would take a moment to admire the scene before them, with the grand hall lit up with various chandeliers and torches, as well as all the other contestants who couldn’t contain their excitement. There was an air of seriousness. Even now, Ivy gulped in nervousness, knowing the stakes at hand.

“Before we begin, ” Ivy raised a hand, calling for attention. “I hope we can all set aside our differences and work together for this final trial.” As she spoke, she would glance between all the different members with a sweet smile, before finally resting her eyes on Tannia.

Even though she had said that, most of the group were good folk who she didn’t have issues with. But she felt like it was necessary to mention something when their earlier conflicts involving a couple of people were left unresolved.

As the team entered the grand exhibition hall, Glacier twisted his head from left to right, taking in the sight of the massive room, the spectators, and their competitors. When Ivy addressed the group in regards to teamwork, he simply nodded in agreement.

Once the headmaster began speaking, Glacier listened raptly, seeing as this seemed to be the most important challenge of them all. Portal to a mythical realm? Navigate the varied challenges? Considering the danger of the previous challenges, he suddenly felt trepidation for what was ahead. The longer this goes on... the more I question my decision to accept that invitation.

After they had approached their team's designated pedestal, Glacier watched as Malik walked forward and picked up the artifact. Regardless, I find myself here... and I'll see it through to the end, along with the others. Mentally preparing himself, he stood by, awaiting whatever was to come.

One last challenge to overcome. And, thankfully, it wasn’t another trial-by-combat. Malik lifted the artifact and sent a surge of magic racing through the area. Ivy called for peace amongst her teammates. Naomi chuckled.

“Or, at the very least, hold off on fighting each other until after the trial.”

Then, she walked over next to Malik and traced the artifact with her eyes, running a finger down one side of it.

“Given how that announcer was talking about this thing, I’m guessing there’s a puzzle built into it that’ll require all of us to work together to open that portal. Alright, let’s take a look.”

Naomi leaned in closer and used [Mage Eye] to inspect the artifact and see if she could provide some much needed insight and direction to the team.

Māo was nowhere to be seen up until it was time to leave the inn, but at least she showed up bright eyed and bushy tailed and was happy to be together with the little group again. She got even more excited when she saw the exhibition hall. She slowed down several times just to stop and look around at the decorations. “Oh, this place is divine!”

She had to admit, as the announcer explained the final trial, she started to sweat a bit. Fanning herself with one of her hands, she takes a large gulp from her flask before reattaching it to her waist. Her expression showed one of genuine worry. She hadn’t even wanted to come here, she barely remembered how she got there.

Ivy broke Māo out of her thoughts, and the cat woman couldn’t help but smile. Aw, you are just such a sweetheart. Ugh, how’d I get stuck with the cutest girls? Stop! You’re making me jealous!” She remarks with a playful tone.

Tannia eyes scanned the audience as the headmaster gave his speech. It had been a long time since she had felt such pressure from a crowd. Not since the Triston Fighting Pits in her previous life. The main difference being that instead of bloodlust cheers it was tense silence.

Ivy spoke up and she had to fight the urge to roll her eyes, knowing where this was going. Sure enough it was Tannia that the bard's eyes landed on. Why did this girl insist in thinking that she was an issue? Tannia wasn't the one that endangered the team, nor the one using mind altering skills on allies. "I'm not going to be a problem." she sighed. "Not unless someone does something stupid or tries to forcefully manipulate my emotions again." That last part was aimed pointedly at Ivy.

Having said what she was going to say, Tannia turned her attention towards Malik and Naomie as they interacted with the relic, ready for whatever was about to happen, and eager to be done with these children.

Orrius had his arms crossed as he listened in on what the headmaster had to say. "Hmph, bring it on." He muttered to himself after hearing their next assignment. He was itching to unleash his powers once again, well, if he needed to that is.

Ivy would then ask for a temporary truce, but it seemed like it was mostly targeted at Tannia, who responded coldly back at her. Looking between the two, Orrius could smell trouble brewing already. "Not this again..." He thought to himself while shaking his head.

Next up, Naomi mentioned something about solving a puzzle to open the portal. "Well, I'm no expert when it comes to solving puzzles and the like. I'll be counting on your instructions, Naomi." Orrius would say.

Time seemed to stretch and warp around Malik as he focused on the artifact before him, its intricate markings a whirl of possibility. His heart thrummed in his chest, adrenaline coursing through his veins. He was aware of the low murmuring of the crowd, the rustling of clothing, the uneven breathing of his allies. Naomi’s voice rang clear above it all, narrating her findings to the group.

With Naomi's Mage Eye inspection, it was soon revealed that the artifact was indeed a complex puzzle, involving magical and physical components. It had five distinct facets, each demanding a specific type of magical energy. There was a facet that demanded the raw strength of elemental magic, another that was resonating with the subtleties of illusionary magic, one craving for the balancing forces of healing magic, yet another that sang the song of beast magic, and the last one seemed to be aligned with the celestial magic.

While each magic could theoretically be channeled by a single mage, the complexity and intensity of the demands meant that, to succeed, each task would need dedicated attention. Furthermore, a closer look revealed minute, but sharp grooves spread across the surface, suggesting that physical manipulation would be necessary as well. The revelation was a humbling reminder of the importance of their unity. Each of their skills and strengths, from the might of Orrius to the cunning of Ivy, from the steadiness of Glacier to the resilience of Tannia, and the unique capabilities of Māo and Naomi herself, were necessary to surmount the challenge.

As for their competition, the remaining groups too were huddled around their respective artifacts, struggling to comprehend their nature. The teams, each a mix of spellcasters and warriors, appeared focused and determined, presenting a formidable challenge. The grand hall, hushed and expectant earlier, buzzed with renewed energy as the groups started their attempt to unlock the portal. The race was on.

Throughout it all, Malik remained grounded in the present. His fingers brushed over the artifact, cool to the touch and brimming with latent power. The noise of the hall and the pressure of the task faded into the background as he fixated on Naomi's findings, absorbing the information and planning their next course of action. It was an intricate dance, and every move mattered. He looked up, his gaze sweeping across his allies. The way forward was clear; they had to harness their diverse strengths and work together to unlock the portal. After all, this was their last trial.

A whisper carried the truths of the relic to the team so that none of the others could benefit from the information. It was a competition, after all.

“Damn. They weren’t kidding about these artifacts being specially made for us.”

As Naomi shared her findings with the group, she immediately connected a few dots that, honestly, most of the group probably did as well as soon as the words flowed from her own mouth. There were still a few pieces to the puzzle that she wasn’t entirely certain about, but the pattern was undeniable.

“Alright… so the obvious things. Malik’s got our illusion magic, Glacier’s got our elemental magic with his ice, both me and Orrius can potentially cover the healing magic and uh…” she glanced over at Tannia, whose toned muscle had become far more apparent to Naomi ever since she’d caught sight of the blacksmith outside of her armor, “You’re probably our best bet for physically operating this thing while the rest of us pour magic into it.”

All things that the others probably picked up on immediately. Even so, Naomi thought it best to put it into words so that everyone was on the same page. Or, at least, so they could speak their minds in the event that they weren’t.

Then, she turned to Mao and Jason.

“I don’t think I’ve seen anyone here use ‘beast magic’ but, since you two are… you know,” Insects were technically animals, AKA beasts. And Mao literally had cat ears paired with a tail, “I’m... well, I'm guessing that one of you two is capable of it. And uh…”

Though, as always, she was more than happy to be corrected. Then, she turned to the rest of the group, then brought up a hand to scratch the back of her head. One glance would make it obvious to anyone there that what came out of Naomi’s mouth next was pure conjecture at best.

“Admittedly, I’m not entirely sure where we’re supposed to get ‘celestial magic’ from. Like, if someone here literally has angel powers and has been keeping that a secret from us, now’s the time to speak up. But, if that’s just some fancy way of saying ‘light magic’?”

Naomi held up her right hand, and a faint blew light began to flow from the etchings carved into her ring. A giant hand constructed of hard-light materialized just a few inches away from her hand and hovered in the air. Nothing more than a demonstration to support her thoughts. It may not have been a laser nor any kind of heat-generating ability commonly associated with light, but it was undeniably a construct of pure light.

“That might be my contribution here. Especially when you consider that Malik is the only one who can cast illusions, Orrius is a better healer, and that we all have to be pouring magic into this thing and manipulating it at the same time,” she paused for a moment and turned to Orrius, “Though, if I’m wrong, me and you might have to switch roles. Either way though, I think we’ve got most of this figured out and just need to play with the unknowns a little bit to solve this puzzle. So...”

She let the hard-light construct fade and lowered her hand before turning back to the rest of the group with a confident smirk.

“How about a little trial and error with our relic?”
