New Game Ideas

I am pondering another game, but I don't know which idea to run with.

First is a reboot of an older Robotech game set in the Southern Cross era. The older game of that ran for a few years before getting retired.

Next, Exalted 2e, featuring Dragon Blooded as the main characters in Creation.

Finally, a Hero System game featuring an agent level Champions game with the characters being similar to a SEAL team, but with a bit of a superhero twist.

Any suggestions, comments, questions?

The US military is asking for bids to determine the next generation of soldier. Will it be powered armor? Cybernetics? Something completely different? Then one company proposes using induced mutations, to make a soldier capable of marching for days on end, have bullet proof skin, and be able to lift several tons? In order to show that their idea was viable, they turn to using animals as experimental test subjects. Then the idea is adapted with the question of, why not just use animals as our primary subjects? They reach physical maturity faster than people do, they don't have a grieving family to pay a death benefit to, and you don't have to worry about that pesky constitution getting in the way.

The characters are the first generation of animals out of the Project's labs. You are a Top Secret team, totally undercover, and have never been out in the field for real yet. Everyone is trained in the same way as a special ops team, and your basic equipment is all military issue and comes for free. Your points will go to pay for special powers based on the base animal you choose to be.

It would use the 6th edition rules, and characters would be in the 250-300 point range.

When you say animal, are we literally playing as an animal with human intelligence, or does the modification change the animal to be more human?

It would be something along the lines of TMNT, where you would all obviously be mutant animals, unable to pass as human, but more humanoid. The tabletop game that I ran came up with a pack of velociraptors, wearing flack vests and packing M-16s. It was a fun game.

I have to say, the Hero system sounds damn tempting (once again) - don't know if I could manage another rp time-wise, though.

You should know that you are always welcome in my games. If I get enough interest in it and start it up, I'll have a spot open for you, no matter what.

Southern cross you say?

Yup. That is one of the ideas I have. The old game I ran went on for quite a while before getting retired. In fact, Psychie was in it, too. It was quite a bit of fun.

yea forgetting old captain james then?

I still need some more interested players for whatever game I run.

Sherwood, I'm far from your best player but I'd probably play in just about anything you chose to ran.

As for options...

I love me some Robotech and given how unsurpassingly rare it is to find these days, I'm always up for that. ;) God Forbid, I might actually play something other than a Zentradi too!

Exalted's been my chief game love for 16 years now. While DBs aren't my favorite splat, there's fun to be found in them. Any particular part of Creation you intend to run it in?

As for the Hero System game, never played Hero! I could be up for some Mutants in Orbit action, even if it's under a different name. :)

I can have a squad level game ready to go in two shakes, since I have so much info already prepped from past games. I just would like a few more players.

It would be located in the West. The premise that I am running with for that one is there is a treaty that is being negotiated between Wavecrest and the Realm, that will be ratified by a wedding of a Dynast Exalt to the crown prince. If there is no wedding, the treaty falls apart. The players would be the escorts going along to help make sure that there are not any bumps in the road to the sound of wedding bells.

Think less Mutants in Orbit, and more Agents of SHIELD. Since you haven't played it before, I can whip up a character for you. I would just need to get some feedback on just what you were pondering.

Ok, any Earth native animal or insect can be used as the basis for your character: no Area 51 stuff here. I'm not saying that there aren't aliens, but you are strictly local. Whatever animal you choose must also be a viable soldier. A superintelligent mouse might have some uses, but for the Project staff, you are functional failure and will be shunted off for study in another department.

We are using 6th edition rules. All characters are built on 200 base points and 50 points of Disadvantages for a grand total of 250 points. Everyone has the following Disads already: Watched by the Project Staff 14-, and the Psych Limitation Patriot. You have to purchase Distinctive Features showing that you are a humanoid animal that cannot blend in with humans at all. Your active point level to top off powers is 40, top end OCV and DCV is 9 including skill levels, and defenses top out at 20 PD/20 ED that includes the free armor you can wear.

Equipment wise, normal guns and flak vests giving you a 6 PD/6 ED defense are free. If you want some exotic weapon, you'll have to pay for it with your points. Think of yourselves as super agents, with your mutant abilities (if any) as added flavor.

All the characters have lived with each other all of your lives, and have trained as a team extensively. I strongly suggest you pick up some ranks in the Teamwork skill.

Finally, when choosing a animal base to work with, ask yourselves, "Would the US Army think to use this as a soldier?" Why use a housecat when you can be a tiger?

Okay, one question: You referenced TMNT earlier and now mentioned a superintelligent mouse, so I am curious as to how extensive the transformation is. Are we TMNT levels of transformation (changing from pure animal to a humanoid looking creature), closely resembling the original animal, somewhere in between, or is it up to the player?

Personally, I have something like the ninja turtles in mind - able to run on two feet, but majorly similar to the animal. Is that the right idea?
Not saying that I want to play as a turtle - just as reference how it could look like.

As usual, I'd probably kindly ask you to take care of the numbers stuff Sherwood Sherwood , since I'm not familiar with the system (at least I think so) and don't have the time to read another rule book atm.

Picture a humanoid version of the animal you base yourself off of. It must be able to have full manipulative hands to operate weapons, but it can't pass for human.

Just let me know what kind of base form you want to start with and what kind of general powers you might like, and I can make something up for you and Epiphany Epiphany no problem.

As I said before, just consider what would make a viable soldier. A earlier game that I ran had a group of velociraptors from Jurassic Park. Another time, the group had a mutant rhino with super strength and bullet proof skin, a tiger martial artist, an eagle with a sniper rifle, a shark that could function on the land, and a preying mantis.
