Hero, the title given to those who perform good deeds, and protect the innocent...
With discovery of Quirks, powers and abilities born into humans birth, the world has become an interesting place. With these Quirks, the balance of good and evil escalated, no longer would normal Law Enforcement be able to confront the Evil’s of Society alone. The Governments of the world made a new profession, the Profession of Heroes. Individuals who use their Quirks to halt Evil, and protect the people.
It has been over a decade since the fall of All Might and the events which followed, UA has since graduated many Pro-Hero’s, ones who capable of even surpassing the famed Hero. This year begins a new class of future Heroes, as Japan’s most legendary and prestigious Hero Academy, welcomes its new students.
Buses and Cars line the streets outside the gates of UA, kids arrive with their personal belongings, ready to begin their time as Students in the Dorms of UA...
First day of classes, UA Dorms
Apollo Delphi set down his bags in the UA dorms. Due to the drastic increase in villain activity after All Might’s defeat years ago, all UA students were still required to live on campus. Apollo had spiked black hair and his composure was that of importance. He was an attractive young man with a very well maintained physique, his cold standoffish attitude tended to separate him from people his age but tended to attract girls his age, despite his obvious disinterest in romance. His eyes were a shining purple, as if they were dimly glowing with a dark energy. Apollo had gotten into UA with multiple recommendations so he hadn’t gotten the advantage of analyzing his classmates quirks in the entrance exams. He had chosen a room in the back corner to avoid being close to the common areas. He had no interest in getting close with any of his classmates. Apollo was here to be a hero and he wasn’t going to let any of the students here get in his way. A knock at the door stopped him in his tracks. A beautiful young girl with strawberry blonde hair stopped at the door. “Hi there! My names Kairi, do you need any help unpacking?” She said flashing a sweet smile. Apollo stared at her monotonously before walking over to the door to shut it without saying a word. Class starts in an hour he had no time to be wasting socializing.
Across the hall, Shiro Karasu stood in his room, satisfied with a smile as he marveled at his work. A simple and tidy room, his two bags still unpacked, with only posters of his two admired Pro Hero’s put up on the wall above his bed.
Shiro stands at 5’10”, athletically built, and considered very handsome by his peers. His eyes are a bold crimson red, he has light tan skin, and his undercut hair is a dark grey with a single white streak on each side of his head. “Alright! I can unpack my clothes later today, lets go make some friends shall we?!” Opening his own door, he caught the slightest glimpse of one of his many new roommates, sensing a darkness before their door closed on a girl. Smiling brightly, he held out his hand, “Hello, my name is Shiro Karasu, it’s a pleasure to be in class 1-A with you.” He spoke smoothly with an air calming warmth around him.
Down the hall, a boy and girl watched with high interest. The twins, Caesar and Ally Valentine, both admitted to UA through recommendations. Caesar stood at 5’11” with bright red eyes and spiky blonde hair, Ally was a just a few inches shorter with darker red eyes and long dark crimson hair. Both had pointy ears, and each bared a set of fangs as they shared a bags of chips to eat. “That him?” Caesar asked curiously. Ally narrowed her eyes, “Yeah, Shiro Karasu, the one who scored among the top three in every category of the Written and Practical Entrance exams. No other student achieved this. Not mention the guy who beat Us in recommendations.” She added with mild annoyance. Caesar chuckled with a grin, “This should be fun.”
In Apollo’s room, the shared wall between his room and the next over, a hole was punched through in a clear space. The hole was big enough for a head to fit through, as seen when a boy with wavy brown hair, poked his head through. “Sorry bout this, was practicing some shadow boxing and got too close.” He apologized as he smiled innocently. Considering the Dorms were built with sturdy material and accounted for housing students with possibly destructive quirks, it still wasn’t an easy task to break the walls. Opening his bright blue eyes, he introduced himself, still with his head through the hole. “Hi, names Noctis Cloud, don’t remember seeing ya at the entrance exams. You get in on recommendation?”
Kairi turned around looking slightly embarrassed. “Oh hello, I’m sure he just is a little shy.” She said smiling trying to mask her emotions. She collected herself and shook his hand. “My name is Kairi Ugata, pleased to meet you.” She had soft pink eyes to match her hair, which was cut off just at her shoulders.
Apollo looked at Noctis with mild interest. “Decent strength. This had better be fixed before bed if you want to keep all your bones intact.” With that said Apollo grabbed his school bag and walked over to his window and jumped out. Landing soundlessly 12 floors down Apollo found the nearest path that travelled around the campus grounds and began walking paying close attention to the other students sizing up his competition. Apollo had no desire to make friends or bonds with any of the students at UA. They were merely speed bumps on the road to being a Pro-Hero. Apollo thought back to the events leading up to now.
A mysterious and elusive father that disappeared after his birth. Then the brutal unsolved murder of his mother when he was only 4, causing his quirk to develop at a very young age. The young Apollo was in the bath for hours before he stumbled down the stairs to the lifeless body of his mother. His mother's sister raised him from then on. She is currently the richest woman in Japan and has friends in very high places. Apollo’s Aunt began his hero training immediately, she was constantly making sure he understood the importance of control with his quirk. His aunt paid for a pro hero to train him for a month, every month for eleven years. Apollo excelled in all aspects of school and was always ahead. His lifestyle of training meticulously had left him a very closed off person, the images of his past forever haunting him. In the past few months Apollo’s entire life changed when he found a file on his quirk while searching his aunts main office. It was classified as pure darkness, a quirk bred from evil. Upon this news, Apollo made it his life goal to prove that his future isn’t evil. He would track down his father and demand to know everything and be the very best hero. He got into UA with record high of 174 recommendations from all around the world, including every hero trainer he had and several other important associates of his aunt.
Apollo leapt ten feet in the air landing on a tree branch. Laying back onto the tree, he pulled out his school text book flipping to a page marked towards the end and continued reading.
Shiro shrugged as he shook her hand lightly, "Some people just need to be warmed up to. It's a pleasure Kairi, I'm about to start heading to class now, care to join?" He asked kindly as he let her hand go. He did remember seeing Kairi at the entrance exams, only in passing, they weren't in the same group.
Noctis came up to the tree, panting a little, "Man, stairs are something else. Yo dude! I didn't catch you name!" He called up to the kid in the tree, now out in the open, Noctis was of average height with a built stature. Clearly his quirk relied on physical strength, yet he still looked agile.
Kairi smiled in return nodding as she walked off with Shiro. Something about that mysterious classmate nagged at the back of her mind. She was sure she hadn’t done anything rude, maybe he was just shy. The nerves of her first day took over though and her mind began racing about all the possibilities of what could happen on the first day of classes.
Apollo glared at Noctis over his textbook before closing it with an eye roll. Apollo casually swung down off the branch landing a few feet from Noctis. Sling his bag over his right shoulder he started walking towards the school building. “The name’s Apollo Delphi, just stay out of my way.” He said evenly.
Apollo arrived at the classroom as a few students had already begun filing in. He took a seat in the back left corner to avoid too much attention on him. Opening his textbook back up he kept reading until an unnatural feeling came over him. Instantly he locked on to the student entering the room with the girl that tried to speak to him before. So this was the student who scored the highest on the entrance exam. Apollo had really only scouted out the students in the years above him, but something about this student though was holding his attention.
Shiro walked into the classroom with a bright smile, walking around with Kairi and introducing himself to the other students. Some were open to him, others felt a little nervous by his openness to them. Yet he always seemed to know when he was pressing too much, and backed off before the student felt too uncomfortable. His people skills were higher than average, able to read a room, and act accordingly. As his eyes scanned the room, they slowly locked with the boy who he glimpsed earlier, it was almost too subtle. For a split second, there was brief tension, like two opposing sides meeting in battle. Suddenly it was cut off as someone stood in front of Apollo, completely blocking out the other boy. Caesar looked down at him with a hungering red eyes, “Morning, Apollo Delphi. My Sister and I,” As he spoke, a girl resembling him a little, sat down in the chair next to Apollo. “Were wondering if we could sit next to ya, seeing as how we all fit the Angsty Teen category.” He said slyly as he slumped into the chair in front of Apollo. By this time, Shiro was already busy again talking to other students, one of them being Noctis.
Apollo looked up at Caesar. Doing a quick scan of the room he came to the conclusion that these too would probably be the best choices, it would also help keep the more uppity students out of his way. “Do as you like.” He said tolerably.
The classroom door swung open as a tall figure stepped in. “In your seats!” The man bellowed as his voice commanded the room. The rest of the students rushed to take their seats. “My name is Icarus, I will be one of your home room teachers. You will meet your other teacher tomorrow. This is class 1-A, the top prospects of UA. If you prove that you are not worthy of that we have a right to relocate you or even expel you at any time. If you have ever had doubts about being a pro-hero, this class is not for you.” He said firmly as he addressed the class. “Things will be different than the years past. You will have two home room teachers this year. The principal believes the different teaching styles will only help you achieve further heights, we shall see. Today will be a fitness evaluation to assess how far along each of you are with controlling your quirks. We will head to the training field now and go over introductions and the evaluation. Any questions?” Icarus asked bluntly. He wore a black overcoat the stopes halfway down his calves and his spiky red hair was pointing in all directions.
Apollo heard a student mutter in front of him. “That’s the illusionist, if he makes contact with you he can make you see anything he wants!” Apollo knew plenty about this hero as he had read all of the dossiers that his aunt had on the current heroes.
Shiro sat near the front of the class, closest to the door, he dipped his head excitedly at the thought of a little test like this. Noctis had sat in the desk diagonally from Apollo, giving friendly waves back to his corner mates. Caesar and Ally smiled back, they may seem withdrawn and angsty, but they had good hearts and kindness to spare. Ally cracked her knuckles excitedly, “Sweet, a chance to show some of our stuff huh?” Caesar smirked, “A smart start, expected of a Pro Hero.” Noctis turned around to Apollo, “Alright, now we’ll get to see everyones Quirks, should be fun.”
The class split up by gender and went to the locker rooms to change in their athletic attire. The students were a buzz of excited chatter about whats to come. They had heard how the evaluations had been in the past but lately UA had been changing up the curriculum due to the rising villain threat. As the students made their way out to the training field Icarus stood alone in an open green space. Silhouettes of other older students could be seen pressed against the windows watching with great interest.
“This years evaluation is designed to show how well you can apply your quirks in simple situations. Most of you were required to do track and field at your middle schools. Today you will be competing in a few events you may be familiar with. The only difference is you are allowed to use your quirks. The events will be shot put, the long jump, and the 200m run.” Icarus paused to count the students. “There are eighteen students in our class this year as of right now. You will be competing individually and I will be keeping track of scores. Pay attention to the other students and how they use their quirks, you will all be competing in the spirts festival later this year and it’s only going to benefit you if you know what your up against.” Icarus finished speaking and pulled out his clip board. “First event, shot put, measured by throw distance. Kairi, you’re up first.” All the students didn’t need to be told to watch their competitors. This was their first taste of what the other students can do, all eyes were on Kairi.
Kairi walked up to the ball visibly nervous. Her quirk was ‘tornado’, she could create and control tornados on a smaller scale. She held out the ball in her hand as a small cyclone of air appeared in her hand before sending the ball flying, only not straight out, it shot violently to the side bouncing off a tree ricocheting back nearly hitting Icarus. He grumpily marked his clip board before calling the next few students. One by one they through the ball some using their quirks, others saving them for the other categories. Icarus found the next name on the list. “Okay next up is Ally, followed by Shiro and then Caesar. Let’s move.” He said with slight intrigue in his voice.
Apollo stood in the back waiting patiently for his name to be called.
Shiro patted Kairi on the shoulder, “Don’t worry yourself, you have an awesome Quirk, and I truly believe you will do great things with it.” He told her reassuringly with a kind smile.
Ally stepped up to the plate, taking the ball in a tight grip, “My real quirk ain’t designed for this, but my own strength will suffice!” She declared confidently. Ally wore the UA Athletic joggers with a black tank top, her athletic jacket tied around her waist, her long dark red hair tied back in a ponytail. Rearing back her right arm, Ally slid back her right foot, her left foot crunching into the dirt. With a huff, Ally launched the ball far into the air, a slight breeze blew from the force of it.
“80.3 Meters” The Distance robot reported mechanically.
Ally smirked with satisfaction, some of the students gawked in shock, this was her normal strength? Caesar rolled his eyes, He’d only get a few more meters through using his real quirk, using it to push it a little. Their Quirks, Vampirism; With enhanced physical and mental strength, weaker during the day and potentially greater strengths at Night, Ally and Caesar also have a special addition to their base Quirk. Their Father was the Original Vampire, The Dracula Hero, Dra-Cool. He was once a Top Five Pro Hero, and Number One for Heros who could be Villains, Teppes Valentine.
The class went quiet, as Shiro stepped up next. He wore his athletic joggers and a black T-shirt, leaving his jacket unzipped. Suddenly a calming warmth passed over the class. A white heat radiated from Shiro as his hair and clothing started to rise. The white aura appeared around his head and shoulders at first, then came off like steam from the rest of his body. Taking a throwing stance, the ground beneath him buckling under the pressure. Caesar and Ally were wide eyed in surprise, unsure of what they were expecting to begin with. When Shiro finally threw the ball, the shock wave gusting a heavy wind on the class. After a few seconds, the Distance Robot beeped, “807.2 Meters.” Shiro turned to the class with a bright smile, his entire expression was genuine, “Everyone’s doing their best, keep up the hard work, Alright!” He said cheerfully with a thumbs up. Caesar sighed and went up next, mimicking Ally’s throw, except applying his special ability. Telekinesis, Caesar’s secondary quirk, able to lift and control objects with his mind. “206.5 Meters.” Caesar shrugged, “Well that was my limit on range, oh well.” Ally huffed feeling ashamed to be best by her older twin, even if his secondary was better suited.
Icarus raised an eyebrow at Shiro after his performance. ‘That kid definitely has the power and mentality of a pro-hero.’ He thought to himself, actually feeling a little excitement at some of the talent so far. He cycled through most of the class until there were only two students remaining. “Okay and the last two for this event will be Castor and then Apollo.
Castor stepped up to the weighted ball before stopping about a yard away. “Alright, I think I have an idea of what to do here.” He said with an innocent grin. He had an attitude that he was just excited to be apart of it all. “Here goes.” He stomped on the ground with his left foot as a spear of rock shot out of the earth propelling the ball directly at him, with his right hand he delivered a powerful punch with a fiery explosion that blasted the ball high into the air. Not skipping a beat he delivered a follow up punch with his left hand that sent a powerful controlled burst of wind that propelled the ball even further. After a brief pause the machine called out. “199.7 meters” spinning around on his heel he shrugged at Caesar. “Guess you have me beat!” He said congratulating him.
Apollo wasted no time walking up to the plate. He wore the traditional athletic joggers with a form fitting black tank that showed his chiseled physique. He had handed his jacket off to Noctis before walking off. Apollo had heard a few of the girls commenting on his looks as he walked past but he paid them no attention. Without saying a thing he clenched his fists as a dark purplish aura enveloped his body causing the ground around him to erupt, his purple eyes no glowing brightly through the aura. Icarus noted the destruction was clearly for show as he noticed the subtle controlled burst of energy sent through his feet. He marked it as an intimidation technique for the other students. Apollo held the ball in his right hand as he used his left hand to support the arm. A dark explosion erupted from his hand sending the ball screaming through the air out of sight causing a scar of earth about twenty yards before it reached a high enough altitude. Some time passed before the machine finally called out the last number. “863.6 meters.” Apollo dispelled his aura before walking back to rejoin the group, satisfied with his score. He paused in front of Noctis holding out his hand for his jacket back.
Icarus looked at Apollo and then to Shiro, both of which were several steps ahead of most of their classmates. He had a feeling he would have his hands full with them. “Good effort class, let’s move on. Follow me.”
Noctis gave a thumbs up, “Dang man that was huge!” Caesar and Ally glanced at each other, understanding a little more about Apollo now. Suddenly there was a spike of tension in the air, as Shiro stood before Apollo with his hand out, “Well done Friend, you shot the ball right out of the park, friendly competition really does help us become better.” Shiro spoke kindly as he smiled warmly, a genuine gesture of friendship, with no ill will existing. Caesar saw the scene like Light and Darkness, colliding in a magnificent split of two opposite forces. He’d almost forgotten Castor’s words to him, “Yeah... close one...” He replied simply.
Apollo stopped as Shiro blocked his path. Looking down at his hand and back up at him. “You have power, I respect that. No doubt you’ll be a pro-hero someday with that attitude.” Apollo grabbed his hand. Simultaneously both of their auras exploded out giving a devastating contrast of light and dark energies. As the auras collided sparks shot out from their hands causing the other students to step back. “However, I’ve done nothing to give you the idea that we are friends.” Apollo said darkly before he dropped his hand and dispelled his aura, walking off to follow Icarus. Castor appeared by Shiro’s side. “Well that was harsh, so when do you think he’ll show us what his power limit is?” Castor asked seriously. Kairi overheard the conversation and chimed in. “What do you mean didn’t he just show us.” She asked. “No he didn’t, look closely at his face next time he competes. There was no sign that he was exerting himself at all. I believe he purposely held back to not put himself too far above us. Just a thought though.” Castor explained eagerly alerting everyone to his observant nature.
Shiro smiled the entire time, seemingly unphased by the reaction, “He seems like a decent fellow, quite a grip he has.” He said briefly before continuing on with the rest of the class. Caesar passed by Castor with a chuckle, “You think Shiro was using his limit?.” Ally skipped by with a giggle, “This class is gonna be fun. Come on Kairi! Lets go!” She said taking Her by the arm and following the rest of the class.
Noctis caught up to Apollo, “Shiro sure is a bundle of smiles isn’t he?”
Kairi was pulled along looking back at no one in particular with a face that clearly said “help”.
Apollo looked at Noctis studying him before a releasing a small sigh. As if accepting the fact that Noctis would be around. “It’s unnatural, we’ll see the true him soon enough.” Apollo responded simply.
Icarus called the class into order as the next event began. In the field before them was a typical long jump sand pit except for one major difference. This sand pit was the length of a football field. His instructions had been simple. Jump as far as you can with no power restrictions. Castor was up first. He followed a similar style to his baseball strategy but instead of propelling a ball. His body was propelled by the earth high into the air, once at the peak of his launch Castor used his control over the wind to glide down landing softly on the other end of the pit. After a wave he trotted off the wait for the others. “Noctis!” Icarus signaled for the next student.
Noctis slammed his fists together, excitedly taking his stance at the marker. Holding out his hands to his sides and slightly bending his knees, his fingers moved into pairs; index with pointer fingers, pinky with ring fingers. Instantly his hands up to his elbows turned black, appearing like a flexible black steel skin. Noctis grinned as he bent down a little more, then sprang forward with a forceful push. “12.4 Meters!” The robotic voice chimed as Noctis landed into a slide. Letting a few more students go first, Ally amazed, and slightly creeped out, everyone as she leaped forward turning into a swirling stream of blood-like liquid. Clearing a large distance, landing swiftly at the halfway mark. Caesar stepped up casually, “Give it my best.” He said briefly before leaping forward, landing just a few meters ahead of Noctis. Shiro clapped his hands, like he had done for everyone that went before, “Well done Caesar!” He cheered happily, smiling earnestly.
Apollo pushed his way past the next student that was called. One with a quirk that had transformed the child’s entire features. No sooner than stepping up to the starting spot Apollo activated his quirk the dark aura surrounding him as he lifted up off the ground and flew casually to the other side landing with ease. Nervous chatter spread through the crowd of students as the difference in power and ability became clear to a few. Kairi stepped up next hopping on a miniature tornado riding it over the sand. Shortly past the halfway mark the swirling storm dispersed and she landed softly in a mound of sand. As the other students went Apollo waited patiently on the other side watching intently.
Shiro clapped, breaking the gossip up, “Exemplary! Well done Apollo.” He congratulated gleefully. The student who was rudely cut, went during this, making it just a few meters. Next was Shiro, Caesar stood next to Castor, arms folded in anticipation. “I can’t fly, but I’ll do my best.” Shiro exclaimed before taking the plate. Bending his knees slightly, the white heat-like aura appeared again over his shoulders. Shiro then leaped forward, the ground shattering mere mili-seconds after liftoff, blowing back a slight shockwave. Easily passing the half way marker, Shiro started his descent towards the otherside, but he was falling a little short. Landing into a slide, Shiro’s momentum carried him like a plow through the sand, slowing down just enough that he simply stepped onto the grass and into a casual walk. Passing Apollo as he did so, “Ah well, couldn’t clear it, guess I’ll just have to get stronger huh?” He said genuinely, no mockery or competitive jibe, just a simple admittance to needing to train more. Shiro went to stand with Kairi, smiling and congratulating her with a soft pat on her heard.
On a rooftop near UA...
A speedster hero by the name of “Cardio” stood watch over the city tuning his headset in to the Police chatter. Two figures appeared behind him soundlessly a dark robed figure with their face hidden by a hood stepped away from the other hooded figure. Cardio heard the noise and whipped around. Before he could even speak a blade pierced his heart and a dark aura surrounded him as tendrils of purplish smoke began pumping into his mouth and nostrils. Cardio’s body convulsed and twisted at unnatural angles before he fell limply to the ground. Wisps of steam coming off his body. “Perfect, now let’s see what UA does with this.” The hooded figure said. The other figure stepped forward holding out their hand. “Well done master.” A wicked smile could be seen from under the hood as the man walked back and took their partners hand disappearing into nothing.
Back at UA...
Icarus led the class the the track. He felt like he had each student judged already but it was customary to do all three heats. “All right class, this is your last change to show me what you can-“ sudden chatter from the students caused Icarus to turn around to see what was causing the commotion. Down at the other end of the track he could make out a pro hero standing by watching them. “Well it looks like even Cardio himself is here to watch your race!” Icarus said attempting to encourage them. The hair on Apollo’s neck stood up. There was something wrong, but he couldn’t place it. Icarus took his place at the edge of the starting line. “No fights, I want a nice clean race! Begin!” The race ended before it began. The students took off, one of the kids with a speed quirk got the early lead but that’s when disaster stuck. Cardio had taken off at a blinding speed and grabbed the student by the neck, causing everyone to stop in their tracks. With no remorse Cardio twisted and everyone heard the crack and the thump as the student fell limply to the ground. Icarus sprang into action. “Code red! Return to your dorms! Apollo, Shiro, Caesar, protect your classmates! Ally, Kairi, alert the staff. GO!” The students all took off, Apollo noticed Caesar take to the front of the group so he fell to the back to make sure no one was left behind the last thing he saw was Icarus run towards Cardio before he had to return his focus to his classmates.
