Over the past few months, the Leville had been transformed from Lestallum's primary hotel to the defacto headquarters of the Hunters, Crownsguard, and Glaives alike. The ballroom was always swarming with members from all three groups, picking up missions, reporting how they had gone, or just gathering information. Maps were pinned to the wall, each with a different purpose. The map for denoting potential and confirmed daemon nests had been growing more and more covered in the past nights.
Human settlements?
Only more sparse.
A chair creaked in protest as Libertus sat down with a heavy sigh. It had been almost a year since Insomnia fell to the Empire, something he'd unknowingly helped bring about. Like so many other glaives, Libertus felt betrayed by the late king's decision to agree to the treaty's terms and surrender what was their homeland. Defending that had been the entire reason they agreed to join with the Kingsglaive in the first place. If only he realized the resistance he'd joined and fed key info on the glaive was being used by the Empire sooner. He should have been executed for treason. Yet here he was, the leader of the surviving Glaives.
It would have been funny if it wasn't so sad.
He turned at the sound of approaching footsteps to see Monica approach. Member of the Crownsguard, she was the one helping to organize the multiple groups more often than not. She gave a polite nod before sitting at the table across from him, a seemingly ever-present stack of papers in her hand.
"How are things going on your end?" Beyond work, Libertus had never been sure how to approach the reserved officer. She never did come off as one for casual conversation.
"We had another group of refugees arrive this morning," Monica set down the reports she had been leafing through. "A large Garula heard's been spotted near the border of Cleigne and Duscae, do you have any Glavies to spare? We're going to need the extra food at this rate."
Straight to business as always. "Yeah, I'm sure I can get a team on it." Libertus attempted to wipe off the sheen of sweat across his face. Even though the days were getting so short, Lestallum still managed to be hotter than Ifrit's asscrack. He sighed, trying to quickly run through who was in the city. Solis, Leetus, Stella, and Strix. They should be more than capable of handling it.
"Thank you," Monica stood back up, "Ah, please make sure they leave any Garulessa alone."
"I know, I know, sustainability and all that." Libertus waved her off, watching as Monica ran off to take care of a seemingly neverending list of tasks. Sighing again, the call was sent out to the chosen Glaives to meet him for a briefing.
They had a mission, simple as it may have been.
