Jevathea's Pass, Western Edge of the Grand Duchy
Late Afternoon
It had been nearly a week since Finn and Mimi had left the Village of the Grave Elves. The weather had been spotty in the early days with a large storm followed by continual mild showers. But by the time they reached the warmer climate of the Grand Duchy, it had cleared, granting them clear skies and warm breezes. They made their way to Aslan first, with no information to go off of aside from 'North' and the badge Finn was given. The library and historical records department were able to identify the badge as belonging to "The Sisters of Respite", a small hospice run by a devout order of healers. All records placed it somewhere in the western parts of the Grand Duchy, in a region called Jevathea's Pass. Very little more information was available, and the last information recorded was nearly a millennia ago. As they made their way out of the city, they encountered an acquaintance of Finn's, a woman named Eris who decided to join them on their journey.

That was several days ago and the group had finally reached their destination. A large desolate valley on the western edge of the Grand Duchy leading into the deserts that bordered it's western edge. Jevathea's Pass. The transition was stark, the warm moist jungles ending abruptly to give way to bad lands. They still had an hour till sundown and a few before it was dark. The valley was narrow and any compound the size of the one they searched for, even if it were only ruins now, would be noticeable.

Mimi's mood had been unusual ever sense the night in the Village of the Grave Elves. She had always tossed and mumbled in her sleep, but lately it had gotten worse, panicking about "deadlines" and "missing forms" while thrashing wildly. She never seemed to remember it when she awoke. A few days later she began to complain of headaches often becoming sullen and unable to continue on unless Finn carried her. And ever sense leaving Aslan, she would get strange bouts of absented mindedness, sometimes stopping and staring off into the distance at nothing until someone regained her attention. Her mood overall had deteriorated from a combination of the headaches and lack of rest. She continued to excitedly gather small objects that caught her interest, though there were much less than there were in the forests of the See. Her collection of stones had diminished as well with her constantly spilling them while removing them from her pockets.

Even in her tired state, she ran ahead of the others to the entrance of the pass. She stared into the path forward and shouted, listening to it echo along the stone walls. She back to Finn and Eris, running in circles around them, though it was obvious she was struggling. "It should be here, right? Somewhere near here? Do you think they'll have warm blankets and food? or mead?" Her ears and tails drooped as she ran, stopping to catch her breath. She suddenly perked up and dove to the side picking something up and running back to Finn. "Look what I found! What is it?" She held her open hand out to Finn with a crude metal arrowhead in it. It had signs of rust, but was still relatively new. "It looks like one of Shalys's things but small."

Eris had been doing well Eris things before she ran into Finn in Aslan. Though she had come to the city originally to spread the word of her goddess to the inhabitants there and mention the Basilica and those wishing to learn more could already travel there. However, she had a feeling with the war that many probably wouldn't make their way there even if they were interested in it. Standing open a soap box she had found she soon saw the familiar blonde-haired boy she had met some time ago during the Velstar Festival. To which she practically jumped off the soap box before falling flat on her face. After that choice encounter, Eris had decided to follow Finn and his other companion on this journey.

Over the next several days, the trio traveled; Eris could tell there was something off about Mimi as the girl rolled and talked in her sleep. Though she figured it was best not to ask about it for now. She chalked it up to something to do with whatever they were coming here to do. However, even she wasn't one hundred percent sure. As the group continued on, Eris could see the times when Finn had to carry their companion, to which Eris slightly puffed out her cheeks and looked in the other direction. As the group reached the region that was their destination, Eris saw the amount of energy Mimi unleashed despite her state as she rushed ahead and then found something she didn't expect to find out here.

"Well if you would hold still I might be able to help you a little," Eris chuckled as her lisp was slightly noticeable as she fixed her shaw as she reached for her scriptures and opened to a verse as she tapped the ground with her quarterstaff three times. "Book of Antilanz verse 4-9, Fear not my pain children is only but a grain of sand on the beach for my light cures all those who touch it for the Grace of Holfeel is plenty," As Eris finished the verse a light came down upon Mimi as Eris tried to alleviate the girl's symptoms.

As Eris got closer and saw the arrowhead, she stayed in place and started to look around with her head, trying to see if there were any signs of conflict or anything. "To find one of those out here in the middle of nowhere, something must have happened, and it does look fairly new as well," Eris stated as she glanced toward Finn as her eyes slowly met his for a second before instantly darting away before resting back on the arrow head.

"Heh, last time I let you into mead you drank yourself to oblivion. if they have it, do be careful." that night during bedtime he had plenty of kicks to the face from her wriggling. Did mimi need to be cuddled by her big bro? No. But everytime he got her a second bed she ended up just sorta flopped over him or hanging off the side of his bed anyways so best skip the middle man and keep the little thing near.

She was cute and thats all that mattered.

Speaking of cute, Eris had joined them, he remembered from... After abit of a jogged memory. her presence was a welcome one, though she did talk about her goddess quite abit. Though at the same time he didn't EXACTLY know whence his holy might came from, so, maybe there was a blessing from that one? Or maybe it was his own power? Maybe he accidentally ate a holy fruit or animal along the way?

Far be it from him to look a gift Holy power in the mouth.

"Perhaps its a leftover from a local hunter, nonetheless lets keep our wits about us." a hand patted Mimi's head, a good find as per usual. Though another hand also patted Eris' head since she was close by, it took a few good seconds before he noticed. "Ah sorry Eris, been so used to just Mimi around." he took away his hand, a light blush from his mistake upon his face.

"We should be nearing a village of some sort soon. lets keep on moving. Unless anyone needs a break. Do you need to be carried again Mimi?"

Mimi held still but pranced in place as Eris said her scripture over the wolf girl, her tail and ears perking up afterward. She smiled brightly and ran in circles around Eris. "Thank you! I feel a bit better now."

She stopped and looked at Finn confused as he mentioned her drinking before. "Did that really happen?" She leaned in to glare at him discerningly, like trying to find the truth on his face. "I don't remember that happening. Actually, I don't even remember the last time you let me drink... We were in the tavern eating and then, I woke up in bed...?" She stood there as if trying to recall for a moment then suddenly looked back at Finn as if just realizing he was there. "We're getting close, right? Do you think they'll have warm blankets and food? or mead?"

As Eris and Finn examined the arrowhead, Mimi looked around her at the vacant desolate canyon and the wastes that stretched beyond. "What do you think they were hunting out here...?"

She stuck the arrow head into one of her pockets and ran ahead again calling back to the others happily. "Do you think they'll have a river near the village? I can taste dust in my mouth and nose!" Her tail wagged as she ran in place waiting for them, rushing to the canyon wall to pick up something else she spotted.

Nightfall
The group walked for several more hours, breaking as needed to sup or rest, but night arrived before they did at their destination. They set up camp in the pitch black canyon, Mimi grabbing what little wood she could find for a fire. The sky was clear and, aside from the walls of the canyon itself, unobstructed, giving a clear view of the stars. The moons were lower in the sky this time of year, preventing them from being visible at the bottom of the valley.

As the group rested at their site, the sounds of the world could be heard all around them. Shifting stones echoing through the canyon, crickets and locusts playing their songs. In the distance, wild dogs howled, causing Mimi to join in. The crackling of the fire filled the emptiness in between. There were many hours until daylight, and the night here reigned heavy.

sample-d47b3d32b6bebb3445a943bb79471575.jpg The badlands of the valley were just as one would expect. Dry, difficult to travel and completely unable to be cultivated. In the day it was hot and at night it would almost certainly be frigid. Traversing this valley making her way towards the Western Empire was the former Bodyguard Kristina. Now the Traveling Merchant Lupa. She had been wandering alone for some time already and would likely continue this trend into the future. She was used to being alone, but she was still Human, or rather a Wolf Human she supposed. At one point in time she had comrades in arms by her side. Each of them had held a respect for one another that could only be cultivated through years of working together. On average they hadn't been "good" people, but they had been united by one person and each of them were willing to die for them. But that was in the past...

Kristina stopped an exasperated and irritated expression playing out across her face. Internally she chided herself for falling into sentimental thoughts. Her mind had recently started to drift in this direction far more often than she would like. That was one issue with being alone she couldn't quite shake. Her wanderings were just that, wanderings. She was adrift with only the vague trappings of a goal, and it was getting to her day by day. She hadn't felt so directionless in years. "Dammit I need a distraction from this crap..." With a sigh of frustration she pulled a water skin from her pack. Taking a long swig before pulling it away with a light gasp of air. With a glance she could see the sun dip lower and lower, the last vestiges of light following it. Normally she would have stopped to make camp, but with her bodies ability to see in the dark she could make some distance at night as well before needing to turn in. Her tail swished idly from side to side as she continued her travels.

It wasn't long before even her energy as a Beastmen began to reach its limit. Even with her strength and endurance long since surpassing her human body days of constant travel would wear her down eventually. Stifling the beginnings of yawn she prepared to make camp. Only to stop as her nose twitched a smell coming downwind from ahead of her. Her gaze tracked the direction the scent was coming from. There was smokiness to the smell, denoting there must be a fire lit. There were also other layers to it much of it she didn't recognize. But she could identify that it was the scent of people, likely other travelers or worse case scenario bandits. Using her nose she smelled the air keeping the scent fresh in her mind, normally she would wait for them to pass or avoid them entirely. But the valley made that difficult, plus there was something... familiar about the scent. Kristina couldn't place it, but she was sure she had smelled it before. A blonde figure in armor flashed briefly in her mind. It couldn't be him could it? A traitorous part of her was merely hoping for an unlikely outcome. Surely that was all it was.

With a renewed vigor she had pursued the scent unable to shake her curiosity. It was the distraction she asked for, she definitely wasn't hoping to run into a young man who likely ten years her junior. A woman of her age pining after someone like a school girl? Never; she had a job. Something far more important than such frivolous things. In the distance she heard the howl of wild dogs, her ears pointed high as they listened. It was the first time she had heard something like that in her changed body. She felt something instinctual stir within her. A longing to stake her territory warning the dogs to steer clear of her stomping grounds. The human part of her was stamping down the animalistic urge as best it could. Doing something like that was too ridiculous and embarrassing she didn't care if it was normal for her "people" or not!

Then another howl answered the rest. She could immediately identify it as belonging to a "pup" the identifier immediately jumping to her mind. More than that she could tell the howl was from someone like her, a wolf. Her instincts surged with newfound power demanding to answer the call of a young pup. Raising her head Kristina howled back, the sound was both like a wolf and a human. But it held tones that a person could not easily replicate. The pitch of the performance was engraved into her being, something she never had to learn but knew as surely as she could breath.

By the time she had finished she found herself standing at the edge of a campsite a fire lit in its center. Her howl would have surely reached this place, just before she emerged from the shadows like a she-wolf would. Her eyes were slightly widened and her mouth hung just a bit agape as she realized what she had done. Kristina stood in silence for a moment her mind processing the sheer shame she was feeling at performing something so foreign to her human sensibilities. Yet that wasn't the only thing she was trying to wrap her head around. There were three travelers around the fire, their style of dress different from both the average bandit and each other. Two of them she did not recognize, one a girl garbed in white vestments and religious items. The other was a young girl just from looks and smell she could tell was the "pup" she had heard howl earlier. Her body reacted to the girls presence her ears twitching and her tail hanging high but also wagging lightly from side to side. Then there was the last member of the campsite. Someone who's appearance she knew well. Blond hair, bright eyes like the sea or emeralds, beautifully wrought armor and a friendly expression that judged no one. "F-Finn!?"

A blush began to color her cheeks. The normally composed woman being brought off kilter by both the humiliating situation, and her complicated feelings for the blonde knight. His smell was now far more identifiable, and Kristina could no longer mistake it as anyone else. Much like the last time they met his scent evoked a desire to be closer to Finn within her, but fortunately this time it wasn't nearly as strong as the first time she had dealt with it. Her ears fell flat upon her head, almost like she was afraid. But her tail rapidly wagging from side to side showed it was more than that. Kristina stood like this for a moment before he pride came back in full swing demanding she get ahold of herself. Seeking an out she began to cough into her fist. It worked as a stabilizer allowing her to get a hold of herself. Steeling her expression she kept a more neutral look, a small aloof smile was on her face. But it was obvious from her still constantly moving tail that she was far more excited than she tried to hide. "H-Hey there boy scout who woulda thought I'd run into you out here?" Kristina waved a hand to him trying to appear at ease. "Look at you traveling with two cute girls you must be over the moon right now. What's the story with the little one there? I hope you haven't taken up kidnapping since I last saw you. You'd make for a poor trafficker." She tried to lighten the mood, but she wasn't hitting as hard as she normally would. Her average brand of teasing/flirting would have been too much for her to bear right now. Nodding to Eris and waving to Mimi she introduced herself. "I'm Lupa, a Merchant; blondie here helped me out of a bad situation in the past." She gave her alias rather than her real name. An identity she had been sticking to for some time now. Logically know one in this world would know her previous life but she had come here with a profound lack of resources or information. Hiding the more violent and cutthroat part of herself while she built herself up was her way of having some kind of control over her situation.

"Look at that, I was worried this would be a bad place to camp but that star show certainly takes the cake. Beautiful." Finn was getting his armor off for the night, having gotten the upper portion off while the waist down was still dressed. He had paused to watch Mimi howl, only to be met back with more.. he couldn't help but feel... Happy for the little one. "I can't remember... Was it good to howl back...? If her instincts say to, guess I can't fault her." the knight sighed, letting the wolfgirl have her fun...

Though one sounded closer... It wouldn't attack if it signaled back.. Surely...

Perhaps it was merely a travelling wolf, passing by....

Or a male looking for a mate...

No sir you wont be having this little lady.

Even if you were a wolfboy you'd have to do more than simply show up to camp to get with HIS little sister.

...hrmm.. something about the tone-age... was familiar...? Maybe not a male.

But out came Lupa.

And... Really he couldn't help himself. Getting up from his squat he looked at the woman for but a moment, popped open a big ol bright smile and rushed up. "Lupa!" he called with a laugh and, putting his arms around her waist he lifted her up in a big ol hug.

"Hahahaha! We meet again! It's good to see you Lupa I've missed you!" he planted her back down as roughly as he lifted her. "I've picked up a few friends on this trail it seems. Come Lupa, meet Mimi and Eris. Eris I met awhile ago again as well, a good sort.

Mimi has been my travelling companion for awhile, rambunctious little dear. Shes practically family to me now hahaha!"

Eris looked over at Finn as the fact that Mimi had alcohol before to which she gave Finn a disapproving look, and was about to speak when she felt a warmth on her head. As she glanced up with her eyes she saw it was Finn's hand on her head. To which her face turned red, "No-NO it's fine I get it I understand things like this happen." Eris replied her lisp and frantic speed at which she spoke only made her embarrassment stronger and then a slight giggle escaped her mouth, to which she instantly covered her mouth and took a few steps back. She was thankful when the group was finally starting to move on again.

As they reached the spot they were going to be staying for the night, Eris looked around setting her pack down by the place where the fire was going to be. Looking up at the sky she let out a small sigh as the little wood in the area was brought to them. As night painted the sky black, the stars seemed to shine brighter here. However, she figured that was only because they were in the middle of nowhere. Rolling out her bedroll she finally sat down as Mimi started to join the wild dogs in howling. She brought her knees up to her chest as there was the sound of something approaching, to which Eris grabbed her quarterstaff and waited. That was when Lupa emerged from the woodwork.

She saw Finn stand up and then wrap his arms around the new arrival to which Eris puffed her cheeks out a bit. However, it was soon found out that the individual was Lupa or at least that is what they called themselves. Eris could feel a little red going toward her face, before letting out a sigh attempting to calm back down. When she was introduced she waved before standing up and walking closer to the two. "Seems like there have been a few adventures, Eris Priestess of the Goddess Holfeel," Eris introduced herself with a little bit of her lisp showing before clearing her throat. "I'll take the first watch please don't go farther than 10 feet from the fire," Eris concluded before spinning on her heel and sitting back down by the fire as she opened her book of scriptures.

Stopping on the right page that had the verse for Concerated Ground, she cleared her throat, “Book of Icarus verse 16-20, in the beginning, there was nothing, weary travelers rest upon my gentle light. The faithful shall never want for protection, for I am the church and maker of holy ground. The foundation is my very soul; I consecrate this ground!” As she finished the chant a barrier took the shape of a church as she now sat there focusing on the spell.

As Mimi's howl was suddenly answered closer, she ran to the edge of the fire's glow with excitement, her tail wagging behind her. She stared out into the darkness, her tail coming to a stop as she focused for any sign of the one who replied. As she waited, Lupa spoke from the other side of the camp, causing Mimi to spin in place. She stared at the other Wolf and approached slowly, unsure if she was friend or foe, but Finn's recognition of the woman eased Mimi's unsurety. She stood a short distance away and watched as Finn embraced her, not understanding who this person was or how Finn knew her. When Finn set her down and invited her to meet the Wolf Girl and Eris, Mimi approached cautiously with a blank expression on her face, sniffing slowly. Once satisfied, she suddenly and silently wrapped her arms around the woman's waist in a hug and lifted her as Finn had done, her tail wagging happily.

Just Beyond Jevathea's Pass, Just Outside the Grand Duchy
Afternoon
They set out early the next morning, packing and leaving as the sun rose. The days journey was uneventful, with not but the heat to harry them, though the canyon walls provided ample shade from the sun. Just passed mid day they reached the other side of the canyon, the mountains giving way to vast brushland. Not too far in the distance was a moderately sized settlement... or the ruins of one, at least. Most of the buildings, especially those on the outskirts, were in varying states of ruin, though a few toward the center seemed relatively intact from where the group stood. The surrounding area was quiet except for the sound of chimes blowing in the wind, barely audible to the non-wolves.

A closer inspection revealed wide pathways between buildings, probably once maintained as 'roads' but now dirt and light growth had begun to cover them. A few green trees poked above the ruins in the center of the complex. The remains of a graveyard lie on the west side, and in the middle, where the trees were, was a still functioning fountain that encouraged greenery in the nearby area. A small maintained garden was set up within the remains of a collapsed structure and clothes hung from a line running between two mostly standing buildings. The most complete structure was decorated with fabrics and splotches of paint, several hefty wooden benches and chairs set in front of it. Someone clearly still resided here.

sample-6fd9cd421f932b4d1384d5098cfb5818.jpg"Wha!?" Kristina let out a surprised exclamation as Finn suddenly pulled her into his embrace. Going so far as to lift her up. For a moment she was too shocked by the sudden intimacy to respond. She wasn't the overly affectionate type, and would more likely punch anyone who tried to get that close. As her nose was filled with his scent she felt any tenseness she once had loosen and a feeling of content come over her. It seemed this world was starting to get to her. Kristina could only smile at Finns own joy, and lament the fact that she had gotten so soft. "Geez, did you miss me that much boy scout?" She patted him on the back as he held her up before he suddenly put him back down. Exhibiting all the excitement of a child than a dutiful knight. Kristina couldn't find it in herself to deny his joy or look down on him as childish.

As he beckoned her to meet the others she brought a hand up in greeting. Able to see clearly in the dark Kristina could make out their appearances. Both the girls were rather small being more than a few heads shorter than her, though she knew she was relatively tall for a girl. While the one Finn introduced as Mimi was the smallest the other girl Eris, was only a few inches taller. The wolfen-woman couldn't quite place their ages but she wanted to say they were young, certainly younger than her. A friendly smile was upon Kristinas face but at the same time she extended her senses, particularly the one that checked for bloodlust. But it was of course for naught, not a single person here exhibited any aggression towards her. She knew that was likely the case, but old habits die hard. Kristina was an inherently cautious woman distrusting of any peace that lasted too long, but as every other time she ran into him Finn had a way of bringing down her defenses and forcing her to relax. If anything that bothered her out of principle.

"I don't know if I'd call em that, but he certainly had a way of getting us into trouble. Pleasure to meet ya Eris." Kristina was amicable, but as usual not very formal opting to call Eris by her first name rather than a title or last name. Soon after she watched the Priestess walk off to start her watch. Kristina hoped they could place nice together for however long she sticks around. She didn't have the best track records with religious types in the past, and it'd been a long time since she really practiced any faith. At the display of her magic however Kristina let out an impressed whistle once again finding herself surprised by the sheer variability that magic displayed.

With a start Kristina blinked as a faint scent tickled her nose. Turning her head she was met with a lightly wary Mimi who looked at her with a cautious distance between them. It was somewhat awkward as Kristina did not really know how to engage with her. She could sense they were similar, but to be honest she had never been all that great with kids. Sure she could manage, but if it was for too long it made her uncomfortable. Something she had never really been able to get over. So when the little Mimi approached and sniffed her much like what Kristina imagined her "kin" would and then hugged her, she was at a loss. "Uh, h- woah!" Even more so when she was lifted into the air much like when Finn had held her. Being manhandled by a tiny girl was not how she thought her evening would go. A slight hue of red colored her cheeks as the scene was kind of embarrassing, but with a sigh of resignation Kristina accepted her situation. Placing a hand upon the girls head she rubbed the top of her hair near her ears in an almost motherly way. "You're a handful ain't ya? Nice to meet you too little wolf." Kristina was sure; she was definitely going soft.

Joining the group on their travels Kristian had left with them when dawns light heralded the morning. With her pack in tow she followed them engaging in idle chatter here and there. Fortunately the worst of the heat had waned and walls of the valley kept even that away. By the middle of the day, or just past what would be lunchtime they reached a brushland, and in the distance was the remains of a community. Walking through the ruined town Kristina was on edge. Her eyes constantly swept from side to side watching for anything out the ordinary. Oddly enough while some of the town was nothing but overgrown wood and stone there were some parts still intact, and others still that seemed to have denizens even now. Though none had yet to reveal themselves. She called out to the others though kept her voice low and controlled "I don't like this... stay close together and stay alert."

Reaching the most well maintained buildings Kristina remained suspicious of the situation. In reflex her hand twitched towards the knife concealed within her merchant attire, but she stopped. Present company made her hesitate from revealing the full scope of her capabilities. So instead she reached for an iron sword she kept at her waist. It was cheap but a weapon was a weapon. She turned her head back to the others an focused expression upon her face that betrayed little emotion. Bringing a finger up to her lips she requested them to remain silent. Kristina could only hope they understood the potential severity of the situation. Being ambushed was the last thing she wanted.

Kristina crept forward with on of her hands remaining on the pommel of her sword. Reaching out with her senses she checked for the presence of others or anything that may indicate danger [Lupas Instinct].

Eris continued through her shift of the watch keeping the barrier up and when it was time to move out the next morning, she woke up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. Seeing at the group was still around meant nothing bad had happened during the night. When they started to move again, as the day went on she occasionally tugged at her robes as she felt kind of hot from the weather. "Why would anyone want to live out here? I mean there are much more temperate places to live," Eris complained pulling at her collar as the group continued to move on. "Goddess Holfeel please have mercy upon your faithful servant and give us shade," Eris prayed out loud as she clapped her hands together three times at the end.

As the buildings came into view over the horizon, Eris grinned from ear to ear she hoped this was the location they had been looking for. Though that was yet to be determined and there was still much she didn't know. Though as they got closer and closer Eris's smile slowly disappeared as she started to see the state of the town they were coming up upon. "I wonder what happened here? Its like only a few people are still here and the rest have gone away, the center of the town looks normal," Eris pointed out as she took a quick glance around at which point Lupa had already jumped into action which caused Eris to shake her head.

"You just can't assume everything is hostile, see I will prove it to you," Eris cleared her throat as she puffed up her chest a little as she walked toward the buildings that were in their path. Once she reached the house in question she stopped several feet from the door, "Hello anyone here? We are passing through and could use some help." Eris called out as she waited to see if there was going to be a response as she stood there with a smile on her face. But she was still confused as to how she had gone from teaching at an Academy in Ryke and then decided that she was being called in this direction. Could it have been fate or something else?

"Hmm..." it seemed like... A home... Not unlike his... Abit more dilapidated sure, but... Well... he never really returned there anyways. It was just a shack, and compared to this, it was a slightly better shack without a gaping hole in the roof. "abit of caution goes a long way." he nodded towards Lupa, understanding her stance at the moment. "Keep an eye out Lupa." he moved to join Eris, trying to stay friendly. "One looks out for danger, the other greets people warmly, it's been awhile since i've had a large team. it's usual Mimi keeping her ears open for anything dangerous."

He patted Eris on the shoulder, giving her a nod. "these people are probably not used to visitors. Lets put on our best faces and greet them well." its been awhile since he'd seen Eris, she seems to have grown up abit, though she was still cute as a button. he wondered what she had done lately... But didn't think to ask till now... perhaps later, he'd been focused on finding these healers... he has questions for them...

Answers to find out about the gigantic fox named Ra'Soka... Or rather called the title of such...

As they approached the bones of the settlement, Mimi continued to run ahead and then run back while the others caught up. "It's so flat out here! Where's the trees?! And all the mountains are behind us now!" As they entered the town and Lupa gave the order to stay close, Mimi moved behind her, occasionally glancing inside structural remains, but never straying far from the other Wolf. However, upon reaching the city center, she seemed to forget herself and ran to the fountain, lowering her head to drink from it. When she finished she lifted herself from the side of the fountain and looked around. "The water's really good! It's pretty here!" She dropped to the ground and rolled in the cool grass, before jumping up and returning to the others.

As Eris called out into the building, a loud shout rang out followed by a crash of something metal. The voice of a panicked woman could be heard from within the building. "R-Roger, someone's here!" The sound of a door opening and another voice replied. "Blast it all woman! What are you yammering on about?! I'm trying to fix the damned bed again!" "S-Someone's here! I heard someone call out!" "What?! It's okay, stay back, Katrial, I'll check it out. Don't worry I'll protect you." The curtain flew aside and a man stepped out, hand on his sword as he looked at the group. "And who are you lot, then? Best identify yourselves quick, it's been a fortnight since I spilt bandit blood and Genevieve here is dying to taste some." He gave a smug grin and tapped the pommel of his sword.

"Hmm... Must be... Busy at the moment." Is all Finn really could say after hearing the crash and a commotion within... "...Maybe we interrupted them." He scratched his head, giving a moment to watch Mimi. He did say to her awhile ago to stop drinking from every waterhole they find... He did warn her about the tummy aches but... Well...

Not every lesson sticks.

This one was from experience, sure, but still best he just keep that medicine he got for bad bellies from the Apothecary in mind for abit. Getting the girl to take medicine was an uphill battle but... Well, she'll learn.

Someday.

Maybe.

When the man came out though, Finn got right on edge, stepping forwards and placing himself between the man and the others, eyeing the blonde armored man as he spoke, bandits...? Had he eyes...? Or maybe he was so used to posturing...?

Hmmph...

"Hold, knight. We are no bandits. The others have followed me in my quest, we are not here to cause any harm." He started, but he remained on guard still. "My name is Finnegan, Knight Errant. Some time ago I was afflicted with a curse, seeking succor I went to the See and got aide by a strange magical pool, but was aided again by a gigantic fox that ate the curse manifested. I seek to learn more of this being the Grave Elves called Ra'Soka, healer in their tongue." He explained the situation thus far for the newcomers and the audiance.

Given the fact the others don't know what hes doing out here and followed him for an odd reason or two that he just can't figure out why they would be so drawn to him...

It must be Mimi, yes she has that power over people.

"We were told to come this way by the Elves, who gave us their side of the story."

Eris looked over as she felt a hand on her shoulder as Finn had decided to join her on the front line. Had she had a reason not to pay attention to the house, she probably would have turned bright red and leaned into the touch. "When is a priestess not on her best behavior?" Eris tilted her head up, closing one eye, and attempted to look smug with a grin. "Such insults will not stand while I'm around," she teased as she saw Mimi drinking some water out of the corner of her eye. So much for being hidden in the shadows, I suppose. She thought to herself, letting out a small sigh. With that sight in her mind she then returned to her focus back toward the house at hand.

As the sounds echoed out from the house as shouting could be heard, Eris looked over at Finn with a perplexed look. One of her eyebrows had risen up before looking back at the location in which the sounds were coming from. She even had time to flatten out her robes before the first individual appeared. As the knight fully appeared and started to mention bandits and the such Eris was about to speak when Finn beat her to it. As Finn explained the reasoning to the knight, Eris nodded her head as she started to lean on her quarterstaff for a moment as Finn finished his explanation. It was at this point that she knew it was going to be her turn to speak; if
they were worried about bandits, maybe those arrowheads we found had more to do with it than we thought. They did look fairly fresh in terms of being out in the weather. She thought to herself, bringing her hand to her chin and pondering on it for a moment.

"Finn speaks the truth; I'm Eris, priestess of the Goddess Holfeel, Hero of the Fae See, also referred to as the Hero of Courage." Eris introduced herself as she gave a bow. "We are simply looking for information and passing through, we just happened to come across this......town? We were hoping you would be able to help us," Eris concluded as she her face then betrayed the light bulb that had gone off in her head. Clearing her throat, she took a few steps forward to stand beside Finn now. She expertly produced a few pamphlets, "Would you like to know more about the benevolence of Holfeel, the goddess of Reincarnation and Guider of souls?" Eris asked as she grinned from ear to ear.

"So can we put down the weapons now?" Eris inquired as she looked at the Knight, who still seemed to be on edge, though she knew they had the advantage of numbers here. She would rather avoid a fight if that was possible. Not to mention it would take much for her to bring the house down, but, she would rather not have to do that. She hoped the knight would be able to see reason though the fact that the others were hidden at least for the moment would probably be another cause for concern at a later time.

sample-6fd9cd421f932b4d1384d5098cfb5818.jpgKristina bit back a curse as she watched Eris ignored her cautious advice. She was torn between reprimanding the girl for potentially putting them in danger, and choosing to stay quiet in hopes of salvaging some kind of advantageous position. Her ears were raised stiffly and her tail slowly moved from side to side in contained irritation. The wolf-woman realized this was the first time she had been openly disobeyed in a long time. Even when she first came to this world those she worked with to dismantle those terrorists heeded her words, even if they didn't always agree. Her time in a leadership position had made her grow used to a skilled and likeminded task force. Eris kindly reminded her that was a privilege she no longer had. Ironically she considered the experience "spiritually taxing".

Very briefly entertaining the idea of choking out the little priestess into silence, Kristina was placated by Finn. Who seemed to at least understood the value discretion. "Fine... I swear no good plan survives an incompetent civvy." She sighed in resignation, muttering the latter part of her words under her breath in annoyance. Kristina kept her senses sharp and her head on a swivel while letting Eris and Finn do their overly trusting friendly schtick. To be honest any plan at keeping quiet with this group in tow was over before it began. Turning her head to Mimi - who still sported a bit of water dripping from her lips from the fountain - she was faced with the chief example of this futility. If nothing else the wolf-girl listened to her when she said to stick together; if only the others were so easily corralled.

Her ears twitched towards the sound of voices. They sounded like there were two of them and they had heard Eris' calls. Kristina's eyes narrowed and her grip upon her sword tightened, she admittedly didn't have much experience with the blade, but it was just a longer knife surely there was some spillover in how they were used. She ignored the part of her mind that told her that was logically a foolish stance to take. As the shouts between the two voices reached a head a curtain was thrown to the side and revealed a man in armor wielding a sword. He was blonde much like Finn but had a far sharper look. There was an air of confidence bordering on arrogance from him, and aggression. Of course the two were only tangentially similar. Comparing the two Kristina couldn't help but note that this man appeared far less knightly, and he didn't have that adorable smile that just seemed to cause all your worries to fad- She stomped this blasphemous line of thought. Kristina made to step forward if worse comes to worse and they had to fight this man, but Finn stepped in front of the group protectively. Her eyes widened a fraction a the gesture, but she reminded herself this was well within character of the knight. She relaxed slightly but kept her guard up in case this was just a ploy to ambush them.

As the others gave their introduction and explained their reasons for being within the village Kristina remained silent. Eris' many titles however had caused her to raise an eyebrow skeptically. Her rhetoric about her God was nothing new to her all religious types usually said similar things. But her a "Hero"? How had that happened? It just didn't mesh with the small girl Kristina was seeing now, she guessed it was a magic thing. A variable she still didn't know how to account for. When the armored man - who the woman she overheard had called "Roger" - spoke of bandits the situation became more clear to her. Kristina stepped forward he hand resting upon her sword but no longer as openly aggressive. "Alright, we've given you an explanation here but we've yet to hear who you are. How do we know you aren't some opportunist crying 'bandit' at every passerby and swindling or just robbing them? What reason do we have to trust you?" Kristina made her suspicions known. Of course she didn't necessarily actually believe that but forcing this Roger to put his cards on the table in response to them doing so would only serve them in the end. No one likes having their integrity called into question, give him a reason to prove he's a so called good guy. Rather than continue prying into us looking for reasons to distrust. "Besides your situation doesn't look too good here. Do you really have the freedom to threaten everyone that passes through?" Her words were delivered coolly and her gaze was sharp upon him. She said them partially to goad him to act, but also to bring the attention onto himself and whatever was going on here.

The younger wolf present cocked her head at the sounds coming from within the house and approached slowly, but never got in front of Finn. She paused and turned to Eris, a quizzical look on her face. "<What was all that noise?>" Suddenly, Mimi growled and bared her fangs as the man appeared in the doorway, but relaxed as Finn seemed to determined to take a peaceful route. She moved behind Kristina, using the she-wolf to hide poorly but continually watching the interaction taking place.

Roger's grip tightened on his weapon for a moment as his cool demeanor slipped at the sudden realization that he was outnumbered four to one, but he recovered and returned to his smug demeanor quickly, once the talking started. "A knight errant, eh? What a coincidence, I myself have been called an errant knight. Though I warn my swordpl-... Hold on... did you say you're Eris, the hero of the See of Fae? As in Eris Granstone? And traveling with a knight named Finnegan? Surely you must be Finnegan Huttman! It is an honor to meet you both! I'm a big fan." He paused and looked to Kristina and Mimi. "Are you two some sort of folk hero duo of the Republic? I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I don't know you."

The knight relaxed and removed his hand from his sword as they explained why they were their, crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm afraid I don't know about such things, but if it's information on curses you are after, you may be in the right place." He pulled the curtain back and leaned into the dwelling. "Katrial! You can come out it's okay. They're on our side! They appear to need your expertise!" He closed the curtain and turned back to the group, turning to Kristina. "Sorry, about the fuss and mix up. Not out here but snakes, monsters, and bandits. Had to fight off the latter for a few months when we first got here, but they've learned to stay away, for now. It may not seem like much, this place, but with a little hard work and that magic fountain in order, we can make a nice life here."

The curtain swung once more, this time a short tan elf stepping out shyly to stand next to Roger. "Ah, here she is. Katriel, these are Heroes of the See, they won't hurt us. We're alright. Sir Finnegan here has questions about a curse or such." He smiled proudly as he addressed the group once more. "This is Katriel, my perfect bride to be. My father was none to happy when I made my intentions to marry her apparent, for a lot of reasons. But jokes on the old bastard, now he's out an heir regardless and I have the woman of my dreams." He pulled Katriel close and kissed the top of her head as she smiled and blushed. "It is a pleasure to meet you all, if you are as good as Roger believes you to be. Please, Come inside."

Katria pointed out several spots where the group could sit, not having enough chairs at the small table for all of them. A few tools laid on the table and beams of wood rested against the wall in several places. Roger fetched a bucket of water and brought it in to pour glasses for everyone. "Relax and cool off, it couldn't have been an enjoyable trip out here. Devils know ours wasn't. I'm afraid we don't have much to offer in the way of food, just a few fresh vegetables or fruits. Nothing for the more... uh... beastly among you." Katrial shot Roger a look before smiling at the others. "Forgive him. He was brought up in less than accepting conditions, but he means well. Now, what is it you are wanting to know?"

Eris looked down as Mimi gave her a quizzical look to which Eris shrugged her shoulders. As Roger reacted, Eris puffed her chest up a little, folding her arms across her chest and as a smug appeared on her face. "The the same, Priestess of the Goddess Holfeel, and the one and only Hero of Courage." As Eris heard Kristina's footsteps, she opened one of her eyes as the knight called for the other voice she heard earlier. "Sometimes the simplest of lives are worth living; at least, that is what my Goddess says. We should treasure the life and the ones that we share it with. For each cycle will have its own trials and tribulations," she concluded as she let her arms drop to her side and leaned on her quarterstaff.

As she listened to the explanation of why they were on edge, Eris nodded. I'm surprised bandits would come out this far unless they were desperate. Though I suppose people could make stupid decisions and end up in a place like his. She thought to herself as the situation seemed to be calming down for the moment at least. When Katrial appeared from the House, and their story was explained, Eris nodded her head. "Well, since the rites haven't been conducted yet, before we leave to continue on the journey, I can administer the rites if that is something you wish; I have everything I need to do so," Eris pointed out as they followed the group into the house setting her quarterstaff against the table. She slid her pack off her back and produced a lantern and a red cloth, gently setting it on the table with great care.

"Any sort of substance is appreciated, though we do have our own rations, so don't feel the need to share what little you have unless you desire to do so," Eris smiled as she remained standing for the time being. Figuring it was better for Mimi to do before, she did not mention she was curious to see how this conversation would go. The fact the elf seemed to know about curses was exciting and she did not doubt that it was going to shed some form of light on the situation. "We did hear some wolves last night and found some arrowheads, but the day today has been rather peaceful, at least for the time being," Eris concluded.

"Thank you, you are truely generous." Finn beamed a happy smile, before regarding both of them fully. "The story is abit long, so.. I'll tell it fully so all the notes are known.

It started in the Northern Kingdom, I was making my way there to aid with the monster probpem they were well known for having. I was admittably abit lost in myself, unsure where I should take my path... And thought it best to head that way.

We were qttacked by some minor creatures on the way... (A grade Abyssal Onight capable of blanketting fields of ice with a murder of crows thqt blacked out the sun and sky that rained ichor when struck) and dealt with some local fauna that was displaced (A massive worm that was the size of a bus that basicly bled molten salt) and a small horde of undead (A very very big horde of undead.) That we finally came upon a corrupted ice elementql and a handful of frozen people... Our healing was capable of bringing people back, but my body was infected from the curse that I vleansed from the elemental and this... strange book that was released from the ice.

A short scuffle later with an evil wizard and we were home free. An issue lay that my arm was heavily cursed, alongsidr my healing." He took a moment to clear his throat before continueing.

"since then, Mimi and I traveled to get it fixed, we went to the See and met an old fellow, he told us after some work that there was a pool nearby capable of cleansing me, or killing me, he was rather honest in that regard." he was forthwith on that much. "But I survived, and what happened in my dreamlike state was... curious, and brought me on this journey. I was in a white landscape, nothing beyond its vastness. And then, I saw a person, purest black, they aimed to assault me. Being who I am I sort of punched the whole corruption in my arm out into it after I realized it was taking it.

Thats when the gigantic and immaculately fluffy fox came and ate it. She was polite if abit curt but very cute including the third eye she had. So now i'm on a search to figure out more about the vulpine fluffy curse eater. The Grave Elves sent us here, after explqining their story with a Ra'soka, a healer who was nearby during a continuous curse outbreak.

And now i'm here." He was honest about his love for the fluffy things, it seems. Though a hand of his seemed to be going towards another fluffy thing, Eris' head, which patted her head lightly, perhaps for some form of recognition for good work? Polietness? Maybe because she was cute?

Mimi ran too and sat on a cushion against the staircase. She looked at Roger when he mentioned fruit and her tail began to wag. "I want some fruit! Do you have the kind that the elves had? The little dried ones that looked like this?" She held up her hands and gestured vaguely as if she was holding or outlining something.

Roger beamed at Eris's words and pulled Katriel tighter to him. "You here that, love? We could be wed here now! Wouldn't that be exciting? And by Eris Granstone of all people!" Katriel blushed and smiled nervously. "Th-That sounds wonderful Roger, but... so suddenly? And what religion is that again?" Roger happily held out the pamphlet Eris handed him earlier. "It's all right here in this odd missive!"

Roger looked down at Mimi as she gestured, not understanding what she was trying to communicate at all. He turned to the others and pointed at Mimi. "I-Is this one alright? She seems a few ships short of a fleet if you ask me." He turned back to Mimi. "I'll just bring you a few of what we have and you can figure it out, how's that sound?" He smiled and Eris and nodded. "We have plenty of fruits and vegetables, but the hunting out here is atrocious. I've managed to bring down a few things here and there, but nothing substantial I'm afraid. We've only been out here nearly two seasons, though, so who knows what migrates through here. Nothing too monstrous I should hope."

Katriel listened to Finn's story of how they came to be in the area and nodded. "I see. Somewhat... I believe I have a document of such a spring here somewhere." She stood and ran toward a disheveled door, disappearing down the staircase behind it. Roger brought out the fruits and set a bowl on the table for the bulk of the group to go through, before teasing Mimi with a smaller selection. She snapped at him as she grew frustrated and he smirked finally handing them to her. "Wild thing, ain't she?" Katriel returned up the stairs with an ancient book in her hand and carefully flipped the pages. "Ah, here it is. 'Recent travelers have inquired about 'curse breaking water'. We had no idea what they were referring to and they spoke of a legendary spring deep in the forests of the See that could heal those afflicted, even increasing their constitution in the process. Sister Karaal seemed particularly interested and spoke to them far longer, though no solid evidence or concrete details could be collected. Most accounts varied wildly. Sister Karaal deemed it worth investigating, but we have decided to dismiss the idea. We can't waste resources on tall tales.' That is the end of the information I have come across. of such a thing. I hope that helps. May I ask though, why did you come out here? No one knew Roger and I had absconded out here, how did you find me?"

"Careful Mimi, don't bite him on accident okay?' he spoke softly like a worried parent, before.. remembering he had to be listening to Katriel. "We did some research up in Aslan, finding hints about a group called the "Sisters of Respite." Situated in the Western Duchy in a place called Jevathea's Pass. With the badge given by the Grave Elves and them speaking of healers involving curses, and the Moon Well that cleanses them. Effectively, it was luck to find people here.

In truth I had largely expected to rummage in an old ruin lost to time. meeting two elven elders in a month is a rarity for most... I Should count myself a luck man." he paused to consider it all.

"I suppous my goal is to give thanks to the one who saved me, and it's lead us down this rabbit hole.. When the Grave Elves came to speak to the Sister, she had disappeared. Leaving only this badge." he paws it in hand, showing it again.

"I wonder if she and the fox are connected... or perhaps the Fox is and always was in the pool...?"

Eris folded her arms across her chest and puffed her chest out a little as she was getting the praise. "If you are not ready, there is no harm in waiting, but I figured I would offer it if that was something you would want," she concluded as she took a seat where she set the lantern and the cloth. However, the couple in her mind seemed to have decided to run away and not a whole lot of the next steps. But she couldn't find a fault in that; the world was a strange place for sure.

"Two seasons? Well, that is going to make things interesting, though why come out here? I mean, sure, there is no one out here, really, but there are plenty of other nations you could have gone to." Eris pointed out as she looked at Mimi as she was gesturing to some kind of vegetable, though she couldn't tell what it was. So she simply waited until the food was brought to them and turned her attention to the story Finn was telling Katriel.

At Finn's warning, Mimi's ears folded and she pouted, frustrated that she was the one who had been called out. She glared at Roger, then her look softened and she turned her head away from him. "<So-... sorry...>" She gripped the wooden bowl in her hand and shoved a piece of fruit into her mouth.

Roger jumped at Eris's staement. "Ah, no! We're ready! Aren't we Katriel?! What's the point of continuing to wait?" Katriel held the pamphlet in her hand, turning it over to examine it, and looking at the ceremonial items on the table. "Per-perhaps I could read this first? I am eager to wed you as well, Roger, but I do not know these people as you seem to." Roger hung his head in defeat and let out a theatrical sigh. "Alas, how can I refuse my future bride? Alright, love, when you're ready." He smiled and kissed her head again, pulling her close to his side.

As Roger teased Mimi, he paused momentarily to answer Eris. "Well, I'm afraid it's my fault really." Roger through his arms up and shook his head in embarrassment, as Mimi struggled to reach the bowl in his hand. "My father was finalizing his plans to wed me off, and I couldn't bare to just wait around to be parted from my dear Katriel. So we stole away in the night, before anyone could notice we were gone. I wanted to head to Refara's Sound, it's supposed to be paradise, but Katriel is still worried about my affliction and wanted to research it. So we came here instead. It's turned out rather pleasant, all things considered. It has been work fixing this place up, but I rather enjoy it. My father would die of heart failure were he to see me like this." The knight grinned proudly and slapped a stack of lumber leaning against the wall, before returning his attention to Mimi.

Roger smirked at Mimi's low sulked growl and ruffled her hair. "I don't speak beast, girlie, but I think I get the gist. It's alright, I deserved it. You think you're the first to try to take a piece of me?" Mimi looked up at him quizzically, but took on a pleased expression as she realized she wasn't in trouble, her tail wagging happily as she ate the fruit.

As Finn mentioned the Healer Sect and brought forth the badge, Katriel's face lit up. "Oh! I see. You weren't searching for me... or rather, you were, but you didn't realize it. What a fortuitous circumstance! You have unwittingly aided us as well! You see, I am the descendant of one of the Sisters. She was a Desert Elf like myself, from the west. I knew of her and the order's efforts to heal curses and thought I might find something here to help Roger. But, if you can find this spri-" Roger slapped his hand flat on the table. "I see what's happening here. I told you, Katriel, I am fine! We may assist them that they may leave, but I'm not dipping in any damned spring. This is a blessing, and I'll not have it stolen from me. From us, Katriel. Do you think my father right? Should we not have left?" Katriel sighed heavily and frowned, looking at Roger sullenly. "You know I don't, Roger. But we still don't know how it effects you, what detriment it could have. I want you to be safe, before anything else. Please trust me Roger. We can find another way." Roger stared in annoyance, before softening and throwing his head back, returning to look at her with his usual charming smile. "Fine. I yield to you, Katriel. Why's it so damned hard to tell you no?" Katriel returned a gentle smile and turned her attention to Finn once more. "If you can show us this spring, perhaps I can uncover something here about this Fox entity? Sister Karaal's notes and diaries seem a place to start. Give me a day to see what I can find, and we shall be ready to set out, if you will guide us." Roger tapped his fingers on the table as if in thought. "I'm afraid you'll have to make do for sleeping arrangements. Anywhere is fine really, but we only have the one bed and it's currently in a state of disrepair. Damned leg post broke in the night and the new one isn't lining up properly."

Eris waved her hand in front of her, "No, no I understand, though the offer is still open if you wish for me to conduct the vows and rites." She smiled as she picked up the lantern and placed it gently into the pack and then took the red cloth and set it gently down inside the pack as well. As she turned her attention to the selection of food on the table, she saw Mimi, who was frustrated and then shoved some of the food into her mouth as she spoke bestial again. She then closed the the top of the pack and secured it shut as she walked over to Mimi and gently placed her hand on her head and started to pet her.

Eris nodded her head as she listened to the story Roger told them about how the two ended up out here of all places. However, the place they mentioned caught Eris's attention on the matter. "What do you mean supposed to be? if the place is a paradise, why would there be a disease there?" She inquired, not sure what to think about Refara's Sound if the place was such a good place, then why be concerned about a disease? She stopped petting Mimi as she folded her arms across her chest though her train of thoughts was interrupted as Roger slapped his hand down on the table.

"Book of Equitaine verses 1-4, my children shall face trials, rewards, and blessings. Your faith in one another shall stand the testament of time stand by those who will be your beacon in the darkness. Do not let that darkness consume you nor those around you for as they are your beacon you are also their beacon," Eris recited the verses as she opened her eyes as she finished. "If one shows concern for something then they are showing you they care, do not be so quick to push someone away especially if they are concerned about you." She concluded as she then walked toward Finn and stopped next to him. "Ultimately whatever Finn decides I will go along with it, I choose to help him in his mission here, but we can all help each other."

"Ah the Moonpool... Well... Uhh.." he scratched his head, he knew the way but... "...Old man's probably gonna be so grouchy..." he mumbled to himself, before nodding. "The moonpool could only be used during a full moon, and my description of events kind of downplayed how dangerous it is. I terrified Mimi and our friend when i went in... Apparently it didn't look... pleasant..." Finn paused to scratch his chin.

And I will.. be very honest... I'm not exactly a normal fellow. I can see how it could kill somebody, and was wisely counseled that it could very well end my life. If you want, I can show yea the way, its... Not... TOO far, Mimi and I kinda got lost and stuck to roads since we went from the Grave elves..." he had to admit it, they did get lost, very lost, like accidentally rolling down a hill in a heavily wooded land lost..

Surely the trip would be better this time right?

"Alright, tomorrow then. I wouldn't dare remove a couple from their own bed. I'm used to sleeping under the stars anyhow." he thought for a second asking what broke the bed, but... he only smirked... He.. had a idea for certain. But.. Wouldn't do to mention that or lay such a hint towards it with Mimi and Eris here. Eris seemed like a pure soul...

Mimi wouldn't get it.

...Right?

Now that he thought about it, does she know where babies come from...?

Does... She even know what...

How much does she know, she doesn't have a impute bone in her body. One time she wagged her tail so hard it became sore. Best he ignore these thoughts for now.

Roger and Katriel's Abode, just Outside the Grand Duchy
Afternoon
Roger looked at Eris with a quizzical look. "Hm, disease? Oh, I understand. Refara's Sound has no epidemic, aside from vice, least not that I have heard of. My affliction is not a disease." Roger grinned smugly, unable to contain his glee. "Roger is cursed. Though he seems to be of a mind that it is more of a blessing." Katriel frowned, looking over to Roger, who shook his head still smiling. "That's because it is!" He looked to Finn and Eris and ran his hand through his hair. "You may find this hard to believe, but I used to be as womanly and maidenly as sweet Katriel here. Then one day, while at market, I may have called a sorceress homely, after she bumped into me of course. The damnable hag chose to curse me for the insult, giving me this form, but I got the last laugh against the old crone. I'm quite pleased in my new physique." Katriel snorted at Rogers response. "You were never as maidenly as I, you have always been crass and obnoxious. And while I am happy for you, we do not know what else the curse may have done or still be doing. Once we are certain you are not in danger, we can resolve the rest."

As Eris recited her scripture, Roger took a deep breath and let it out, nodding his head solemnly. "I know you speak true, Eris. I am well aware of how much Katriel cares for me, she has given up and tolerated much for me. And I love her an equal amount, though sometimes I forget myself. I am trying to be a better person, using this as a chance to start anew. And there is no one I would rather have at my side than her. I will trust her judgement. If she believes this the best course, I shall take it. After all, I have nothing to lose for I know she will stay with me regardless of the outcome." Roger walked over and stood next to Katriel where she sat, squeezing her hand.

As Finn explained the dangers of the pool, Katriel turned to look at Mimi at her mention, then back to Finn. She mulled over his words. "I see. That is less than optimistic news. If the cure for the curse is just a dangerous as the curse or even more so, what is the point of using it." She looked up at Roger. "I am sorry for pushing you to agree before w-" Roger leaned down and placed a finger on her lips with a kind smile. "It's alright Katriel. I can do this. I'll be fine. I put my trust in you to find the solution, put your trust in me to carry it out." Katriel stared at him for a moment before nodding. "Alright." She turned back to Finn. "Very well, I shall scour the documents that were left either here or in my care for any information on the pool or on this Sister Karaal. We will leave tomorrow at noon. Thank you for your assistance, Finn, Eris."

The Rest of the Day
Katriel spent much of the day in the lower area of the house. She left the door ajar and unsecured and anyone who travelled down the steep stone steps within would find themselves in a large stonework room with several smaller rooms adjoining. Two of them were collapsed, the third packed with documents and books, portfolios and cases. Katriel seemed to have the larger room set up as a makeshift research center, where she could sort through organize and repair any documents she needed. While she worked below, Roger spent most of his time repairing the roof. It had been covered with cloths and leathers, but he worked to patch the holes with new boards. He took breaks every so often, spending much of them teasing Mimi lightly and drawing water from the fountain for everyone to drink.

As the sun started it's decent, Roger headed to the garden in the nearby collapsed building and picked vegetables, which Katriel then made into a hearty stew for everyone. After dinner Katriel worked on mending clothes and linens, while Roger got things prepared to leave tomorrow. Shortly after sundown, Roger produced a pile of linens and blankets for the others to use, which he dropped unceremoniously on Mimi with a grin. With a quick good night to the others the couple retired to their room at the top of the stairs.

The Next Morning
Roger was up first, fetching produce and water from outside that Katriel used to make a breakfast for the others. Eggs, some fried slender pieces of some sort of meat, and fresh fruits of several varieties were laid out on the table for everyone to pick over. Once everyone was finished, Katriel cleaned up while Roger finished the last minute travel arrangements. He showed them where they had a wooden basin behind the dwelling for bathing, if anyone desired it, and then spent the rest of the time securing the house. Any one paying attention would notice him stuffing most of their belongings into the celler and making small gestures and whispers in front of the cellar door, the garden, the fountain, and another small building near the one they dwelled in. As the sun reached it's high point in the sky, everything had been made ready and the two stood in the living space. "Well, then. Shall we be off?" Roger looked to the group, while Katriel help up a small beg. "I have some food for us to eat as we travel, as well as ingredients and utensils for when we make camp. Thank you, Finn, for aiding us. You and Eris as well, are as kind and honorable as Roger claimed." She held up a leather portfollio while addressing Finn. "Everything I have found on Sister Karaal and the spring are here, I shall inform you as we travel, if that is acceptable. I haven't read through all of it myself, I tried to use the time to merely focus on collecting what I could." Once everyone was ready, Roger lifted a large pack onto his back and they set off, back into the pass toward Aslan.

Mimi continued calmly eating the fruit happily as Eris sat near her, her tail wagging slowly behind her as she gnawed in bliss. She barely followed what the others were talking about but as the topic turned to Finn's experience in the spring, her ears flattened and she spoke out. "<It was scary! He dropped suddenly without warning! I tried to keep him afloat but then he did this!>" She held her arms out to her side and shook like she was convulsing. "<I didn't like it...>"

Mimi spent the rest of the day following the others around, and watching them as they went about their tasks. Roger let her help him pick produce from the garden and showed her how to feed the wild pheasants that were kept in an adjacent building. when she returned she promptly handed each of the others a handful of feathers she had collected. More were sticking out of her pockets and a few in her hair. She picked at her stew, only eating a few of the ingredients before declaring she was done in a growl of Beastial. When Roger dropped the linens on her she squeaked and laughed before handing them out to the others, a smile on her face and tail wagging. She fell asleep shortly after, passing out almost instantly as soon as she laid down.

The next morning, she awoke to the smell of the cooking and ran actively around the room as the food was being set out. when it was time to eat, Roger handed her a plate of her own with more of the strips of meat, giving her a wink and putting a finger to his lips. She returned to where she sat the previous night and quietly and happily ate her breakfast. She continued to follow Roger each time he left the house, only to be disappointed until he finally returned to the pheasant house. He cut open a bag of seed and let her fling it about the house to provide food for the pheasants while they were gone. She gathered rocks and lined them up on the fountains edge, clearly putting them in some sort of order, but what that order was seemed indecipherable. She finally returned to the others as they prepared to head out, grabbing her bag and cloak from the corner of the room.
