Deathkitten

I am the Deathkitten! Fear me!
Against the Gods' Will
The world has been... functioning, at best, for a long while. Without much direct intervention from the gods and goddesses that lend their powers, humans have been on their own for the better part of the last couple millennia. Whether for good or evil, the deities pick and choose where to spread their worship, their powers, and of course, their seed. Even now, a good number of them have produced progeny, despite the rather hands-off approach many of their factions have been crying out for.

The date is April 12th, 1940, in the midst of the beginning of World War 2, and while humans are concerned with this Hitler fellow, the divine have their own concerns.

Using the hatred, pain, and suffering that the world is currently experiencing, a group of gods and goddesses have begun attempting to bring about the end times - and it's not who you might expect. From pantheon to pantheon, nearly everyone is now in agreement. They must be stopped. Who exactly is causing these issues, however, is still a mystery.

To stop such a divine threat, however, they've decided to go with an indirect approach, something that wouldn't turn the world into a divine battleground. Bring in the kin, the young demi-gods and demi-goddesses that have been speckled throughout the world, and turn them into heroes. Warriors in a war they may not have asked for, but one that they don't have much choice in participating in if they want to keep having a world to live in.

So now, there are two World Wars going on simultaneously. How will they fare?

The Pantheons of the Divine
While there are likely an innumerable amount of gods and goddesses of various human faiths, they share certain common traits. They all have something that sets them apart, literally making them a different species - The Divine. They have a divine spark, like a glowing ember in their soul that changes their being into something far removed from human. Demi-divine have this as well, and it is the source of their powers.

There are a number of different pantheons, but not all of them have agreed to have involvement in this war. Most notably, the Christian/Catholic/Muslim/etc. angels and Jehovah, having an extremely hands-off policy, have declined to have any involvement. Given their god's strict nature, there is little doubt that they are not involved with the violence. The others, wanting to avoid unnecessary conflict, have decided not to attempt to prod them into action.

Often, the various progeny of these pantheons have been left with their human parent. Many never know that they're related to a god or goddess at all. They walk the world as paradigms of their class, usually the best at what they do, and are in some cases even feared. There is no one profession or lifestyle that calls to these progeny - rather, they are spread far and wide. From famous runway models or police officers to incredible thieves or even assassins, they live diverse lives.

None of the progeny born over the last few centuries has ever seen the world of the gods and goddesses. Very very few know of its existence. Often, those who do have an inkling are from pantheons who make it quite clear that some other place exists: Norse, Greek/Roman, etc.

Suggested Pantheons are as follows, and some deities act as one might expect (though they do vary):
  • Greek/Roman
    • Zeus - A massive player, jealous, very quick to anger, a bit of a jokester.
    • Aphrodite - Stubborn, beautiful, jealous, quick to anger, but very sweet when she likes someone.
    • Ares - Bull-headed, strong, good with strategy.
  • Japanese
  • Chinese
  • Egyptian
  • Celtic/Irish
  • Norse
    • Odin - Bull-headed, a bit violent, loud.
    • Freyja - Attractive, motherly, caring.
    • Thor - Loud, strong, deceptively smart, dramatic.
    • Loki - Very smart, mischevious, dramatic, snarky. Demands that he was NOT involved in these end-times shenanigans.
  • Mayan
  • Hindu
  • Eldritch
Since we don't live in the 1940's and likely have spoken to very few people who were alive during that time, we're probably not gonna do it perfectly. The main thing to keep in mind is the level of technology. Cell phones don't exist. Radio is king. Televisions exist, but basically are unseen, it's extremely rare to own one and they're experimental more than anything at this point - not to mention in black and white. The internet doesn't exist. Etc.

Likewise, as PolikShadowbliss PolikShadowbliss mentioned, their language isn't exactly... kosher nowadays. So. Be cautious with that. You're not required to give them slang and a dialect, but if you want to go the extra mile and try to do so, have at! Have fun! We'll ooh and awe over it.
