Dice Into the Ruins - Exalted 3e OOC

In Real Life, I have an interest in firearms (partly because firearms play such a role in role-playing games). The Weirdflame picture in the Lunars book (p. 340) says a lot. It's a rifle, clearly, but it's referred to as a "devil caster." Up by the shooter's cheekbone, there looks to be a hammer-like mechanism that reminds me of the American Long Rifle (minus the firing pan). But, hey, Exalted is a fantasy game not a war-reenactment game. Plus, the Weirdflame is clearly a magical item, so that little device could be anything.

Okay, looking into the Exalted book more (p. 589), a rifle is a "fire wand." They're described as "one-shot flamethrowers."

What the difference is between a "fire wand" and a "devil caster" is I don't know yet. Still looking. =)

EDIT: In Sirrush's description, there's this: "Among those arms were Sirrush and Anshar, a pair of artifact flame pieces..." (ellipsis mine) and this: "In extricating herself from such situations she employed her twin devil casters to deadly effect." (Arms of the Chosen, p. 67).

My guess? I'm thinking the Exalted-makers just swapped out the name fire wand for devil caster (which does sound cooler). If the Wierdflame is a "devil caster" and one can employ twin devil casters, well, unless you've got four arms, then "devil caster" must also refer to pistols.

As always, I'm open to correction! =)

Right, yes. Not intending to contend the ST, or jaydude; I guess I was pointing out the counterpart to jay's bolded part of that sentence:

...which is, to be fair, not 100% clear in its intent. If Psychie Psychie is happy that Glade would have stopped upon noticing the wards, then I'll edit my post to reflect that fact.

(Can I roll to understand and/or disable the wards in that case? What would I be rolling?)
You did say that you were activating your Sorcerer's Sight Charm before wandering around to look, and so you would have noticed that there are wards tied to the hearthstone on the pedestal. I would think that given the presence of the wards Glade would have paused until the nature of the threat was determined.
Psychie Psychie what is the metal of the Hearthstone Amulet?
Sorry I forgot to say. It is Jade.
I'd say you're doing pretty well! =)

A devil caster... is a form of firearm?

Found a picture. Weirdflame (in the Lunars book) is a devil caster which looks very much like a magical flintlock rifle.

But Sirrush comes tied to another such weapon... so... it's a flintlock pistol?
Basically yes. It is a short ranged flame piece pistol, with a missing mate to it somewhere out there.

Hey! Lootwise, who is interested in what? The sooner these goodies get distributed, the sooner they get used for the Circle's benefit. =)

I kinda like the boots, but I'm willing to pass on them for someone else if there is a good claim on them.

If I understand things correctly, a Lunar can't use the boots in any form save human because they aren't Moonsilver and thus they won't transform with them but instead go into "Elsewhere." I believe I read that non-Moonsilver Artifacts cease functioning when Lunars go into Animal form? If this is true, then I'd much rather someone like Amara get them because she's melee-based (and the fast movement would help her get within sword-reach) and the heal is nice. (Fat Cat can both travel and heal well already, but that's certainly not the case for a number of others in the Circle).

Psychie Psychie How are you working ammunition, please?

In the core Exalted book, they mention two different ways of working it out? One method is precise (you have this many uses of Firedust left) while the other is... nebulous (roll at -2 every so often to see if you're about to go black on ammo or not). In my head, no serious gunner loses track of their ammunition (it's second nature to have a strong idea of what you've got left before your weapon becomes a club).

How much does the circle know about each other? Some of us just met O Mighty Fat Cat...but do we know about each others backstory in detail? Or just a broad detail...like "They know Amara was sold as a slave as child to a fighting group and became a Gladiator..." or "Mercy was a slave of dynasts raised on the Blessed Isle, moved East and then set herself free upon exaltation"? I think I mentioned with Mercy that she has been with the circle for a month and that she was the most recent to join before O Mighty Fat Cat came....

I'm comfortable with everyone knowing the main points about Gray Stone's backstory (i.e. former monk of Lookshy).

Hey, so, it looks like I'm going to read some tea-leaves! Uh, how are we running that mechanically, Psychie Psychie ? I have both the 1- and 2-dot versions of the Thaumaturgy, which means I can:
  • Predict the next major course in a drinker's life (easy)
  • Predict the most important event in the drinker's next day (hard)
  • Predict... "the best opportunities for success and failure a character has during a certain month." (it's less clear to me what that means. Is it like "this is a good month for signing a trade deal"; or "the worst thing that will happen to you this month is a bout of athlete's foot"?)
All of these are Perception + Occult, which Glade will happily perform for any characters that want it - let's say up to a maximum of 3, so as not to get bogged down. I can read the rest another time. But I'm not sure how I, as the player, should handle this. I'm not even sure how I'd handle it if I were the ST!

Hey! Lootwise, who is interested in what?
Not much of this stuff is directly useful to Glade, so I'm happy to pass on most of it. The Solar hearthstone is obviously handy for anyone; if I end up with that, I'd also like the circlet/amulet so I can keep my Monkey Stone socketed.

Also interested in seeing what the Manse hearthstone is, if we can get at it.

Oh someone may want to bring up the business with the runes on the alter with the hearthstone to Marcy so she can apply her big Occult brain to it ;-)

I mentioned it in my edited IC post: "I would also be grateful of your help reaching the manse's hearthstone. Its wards are still present.". Of course, it's an edit above your post, so...

At some point the streams of time will resolve themselves!

All good my friend, I will get to it tomorrow after I get back from the hockey game tonight ;-)

I'm gong to work firedust with the second method, letting you know you are starting to run low if you are using a lot of it. Mostly it will be a story point; you need to reload but are critically low now. What do you do? That kind of thing.

Thanks for checking with me on this.

I will say that the readings for everyone will come out the same: Your lives are all in dire peril, and you are going to be taking a long journey soon. I may add to that depending on how many successes you roll.

Perhaps they are some kind of automation that has been tasked with the duty of protecting the stone, and if you remove it from the pedestal without using whatever safe way there is to do so, they will activate.
Is it okay if I have Grey Stone be aware that automatons like this exist? Just so that he can warn Fat Cat about them.

Thanks.

Also, how much Essence would you say that we've each been able to recover since the fight with Kerwin?

It has been three hours of travel time. I am thinking that I saw somewhere that you get 5m back per hour of rest? I'm not positive on this. I do know that those with hearthstones will have some additional Essence back from them.

According to pg174 of the Corebook, it's 5m per hour outside of combat, but 10m per hour when able to relax (e.g. sleeping, meditating or quietly reading).

And those that had activated the Charm Increasing Strength Exercise, that Charm has come to an end.

Given that everyone but Fat Cat has been able to sit and chill, everyone but the Lunar should be at full motes.

Question, so the runes are protecting the hearthstone? Right? Do we need to get to the hearthstone to accesss the towers? Or can we look in the towers to maybe figure out a clue to the statues?

Also the party (including Mercy) may want to see the significance of the statues to maybe get a clue as to how to solve the puzzle. Presumably if we cannot determine the Lore of the Statues for the puzzle then there may be a clue within the towers. Or the lore may be lost and their may be no way to access the Hearthstone without dealing with the statues or whatever the runes trigger

Are everyone's Anima Banners back down to Dim now?

jaydude jaydude Thank you for looking out for Fat Cat! Both he and his Player can use all the guidance they can get! Ha ha!
