This is the story of a utopia being brought about by a puppet master scenario.
The world was oblivious to the cause of the changes going on around them. Most people were grateful for the changes and never questioned them. But a few (you, the group) have begun to question the changes. In some cases they seem a little creepy.
Signs
Wars around the world have begun to de-escalate, starting with those on the verge of leading us into WW3.
Violent gang activity has begun to dwindle.
You know those schools with students who tell teachers to F off? That sort of thing has begun to fade. School attendance is and student behavior has begun to approach an almost Stepford quality in some of the worst areas. If you have ever read A Wrinkle in Time and recall how IT controlled people, think of things starting to move in that direction.
Interest in social media and reality TV has begun to fade.
Traffic accidents have begun to plummet.

There is more, but these are some major indicators. It is as though the world is beginning to evolve toward Order. Recycling is on the rise. On the downside some of the creativity of mankind has begun to fade.
You are among the few who have been unaffected. Why you, is something to explore.
Character Design
Characters should not be any sort of violent persons (such as gang members of the really bad sort)
Characters must not have serious mental problems (this will include BPD). (These issues could result in them being controlled.)
Age. Minors will have trouble unless emancipated teens. (The story may require travel.)
Skills will be important. It is strongly recommended that characters have careers and/or hobbies. Good examples: investigative reporters, detectives, FBI agents, etc.
Note: If the group prefers, you could all have been selected by the government as specialists. Ever watch any of the Species movies? Or the TV series, Threshold? One of the events is bound to create groups like those. Imagine if Russia suddenly pulled out of Ukraine and offered reparations. Or if all the violence in Haiti ended in a few days. Or all the schools in inner city Washington DC suddenly became perfectly behaved.
FAQ
There are no signs of parasite entry points. No pod people. Whatever is causing the changes leaves no evidence visible to the naked eye - except behavior changes.
It is as though the aggressive tendencies of mankind are being suppressed.
The effects, while widespread, are clearly targeted intelligently. There is a long way to go before the world is a full utopia.
Yes, there are limits to the control of the puppet masters. And there is a way to reverse the process.
The story begins in Aug 2025. Where needs to be decided. I am going to suggest somewhere that had serious problems.
