It's the age 2157. Two years ago, the world was overwhelmed with the positive effects of gene splicing. Immunity to disease was easily obtained, physical prowess expanded exponentially and the human lifespan was able to be tripled, although every splice took up the bodies space or chromatic range. Those with triple the life span would never be able to be immune to all diease, those who were fast or could breath under water would not be able to expand their life span and et cetera... until the FDC was invented. The Fourth Dimensional chromosome seemed to offer an almost ever expansive set of chromatic space, lending to ultra powerful beings being created, overwhelming the worlds armed forces, specifically in the U.S.A, China, France, Mexico and all through out Africa. The United States partnered with France, Canada, Mexico and all of South America against Africa, China, Turkey, Greece and Afghanistan in what would be known as the war on the 4rth dimention in 2148, leaving the United States weakened but dominant along with the other "Allied forces."


This new time of healing lent to a new age of terrorism. On 2155, the terrorist group known only as "the subjects" released gas bombs all across the major cities in the U.S, leaving a critic video message stating "The United States will remember the day millions of children were killed in the assault of the New Southern Congo." From that day on, the United States has been ruled by hyper aggressive animals that live under the false title of "Humans." The gas turned every previously non-mutant into a less intelligent and more animal like variant of their previous selves.


Inside of a small underground U.S. base in northern Washington, 3 agents who have had the FDC used on them sleep in ice, waiting for the day they will be needed again. The last time they saw light, they had just gotten back from seizing control from the last standing country in Africa, Tanzania. A light turns on in the facility containing the 3 agents and all of their eyes pop open as a response to water based stimuli.


What kind of agent will you be? (There are only 2 open spots because i'm going to make an agent without a doubt.) With this all stated, I am a college student with a full time job. I will not be able to post multiple times a day or even every day. Now, this is why the auditions will become important. (as stated in the character sign up section) I will need everyone to be comfortable with their characters being role played for them in order to advance the plot quickly. I'm not gonna lie, this RP's overview is very very interesting and sounds really badass. I would already reserve a spot but I don't want to be in an RP by myself. I'll wait for more people to reserve then I'll officially hop in, hope you understand.

I was thinking that we would have another character brief us on the exact situation but if you recommend prior knowledge on the subject, I might be willing to change the presentation to make it more informative.


That link is interesting but how are you suggesting that it be implemented?

Consider what mix of gameplay you want. Is it more action, in combating the faction, or mystery solve, working out what happened? Perhaps there is a social element, negotiating with allies?


For mechanics, RPNation has built in dice/number generators, so that is not an issue.

I was thinking more so that there could be any mixture depending on the characters style. That's why I didn't have all combat nor social nor puzzle solving elements to the abilities. They are all necessary to living and so in a regard, those will all be aspects of this role play.


Right, I think i'll maybe arbitrarily decide what actions go through and which don't. I'm not really letting peoples characters die unless they quit. I really am trying to just make a story and less of a game. I'm not really concerned with peoples abilities like I said because they can only have so many and because the abilities themselves only go so far and are not really god like in any sense.

The audition will be comprised of 3 parts. Character development, setting description, action description.


Describe a detective, leaving his department to investigate a recently called in double homicide. Your character can be anything you want them to be. Demonstrate that you know how to use the listed skills for me, please! Thank you!

You have tentative interest, since you have put some thought into it. If you are ST or GMPC, and don't want death as a fail game state, then some sort of rationalisation with the players is required for it (if people know their PC can't die, it can be problematic for some types to players to remained focused or in character). In this case, based on your intentions, handwaving a solution such as the FDC providing a reflexive death avoiding temporary mutation, is enough. It means that the character might not die, but they can still fail their objectives (for instance, the larger goal of re-establishing peace), and cannot control it for game breaking purposes.

Would I be able to volunteer to take an audition as well? This concept seems rather interesting, and a smaller RP with not as much of a time constraint seems like a nice thing (especially for a college student, my lord).


If so, then should I just write the prompt you gave, then demonstrate character development, setting description, and action description? Not sure if you meant that solely for Riven or just in general.

@Bardiel You lost me slightly. What does ST stand for? GMPC? I may need you to re-explain yourself. I think actual death for characters may be an interesting plug. Perhaps if a character dies, we could create a new one out of a befriended tribe if they are malleable.


@Siri you may also audition! Based on the number of auditions, maybe i'll increase or decrease the amount of people involved. Really, you can write any kind of prompt you'd like so long as you express your skills clearly. Riven just wanted an idea of what I was expecting. Also, if you guys could keep everything 3rd person, that would be wonderful!

ST = Story Teller, in particular for the New World of Darkness game line.


GMPC = Game Master Player Character, while not inherently bad, the risk for biased or self-serving outcomes means that it is commonly frowned upon. Of course, as you are using the simulator (nice little flash one, at that), such concerns aren't really required.


Yes, a new PC replacing the old in those situations would be reasonable. Par for the course for many games.

Very nice! Yea, It might be that characters would just go into comas or perhaps they would be dead until a story element brings them back to life via some science shit that i'll make up on the spot.

Well, you are already suggesting that there are fourth dimensional chromosomes. What is the hypothesis on how that works? Real-time shifting of base pairs on the W axis?

To be honest? I have no clue, I thought it sounded interesting and fancy. Really, I would rather have talked about a forced expansion of human chromosomes (such as the rumor that Jesus had a more expansive set of chromosomes, making him wiser faster) but that wasn't quite mystifying and unknown enough, so I went with new dimensions.

Deviation from the standard 22 plus sex chromosomes frequently cause serious issues (variations in the sex chromosomes tends to be the least life threatening). Although, for the purposes of the story, you only really need to care about the phenotype (the expressed genes in the organism) and not the make up of the genotype (the actual gene sequences and structures).

How do YOU propose the mutations are explained? I operate under the motto of: "If i can't make it make sense, I might as well not try to make any of it make sense." If I can't fully explain every single instance of scientific theory, I don't even want to bother with it because this is supposed to be for the sake of making a compelling narrative, not write realistic science fiction. If I wanted to make it realistic, None of this would even be happening.

I already gave a hypothesis on the idea. Nevertheless, I was agreeing with you; the outcome is what counts, not the mechanisms.

No, I did not misinterpret the intention "For the purpose of your role play" Was mentioned. If you think you have a better way of carrying on the story, please just say so.

If you mean interest in taking part in the RP, then I am. If you are referring to having a compelling narrative over as accurate as possible a setting, then I am still in agreement. It was only open, general discussion on setting.
